Seven students have ADHD. The objective is for students to recite the months with 90% accuracy using videos, PowerPoints, songs, games and art projects about each month's seasons and holidays. Analyze the Learners: I will be teaching the months of the year to a 1st grade Special Education
class. There are 10 boys and 7 girls, of which 70% are white, 20% are African-American, and
10% are Hispanic. Seven students in the class have mild to severe ADHD (attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder).
State Objective: My students will recite the months of the year after learning the names,
organizing flashcards of the seasons and holidays associated with each month, looking at
pictures, playing interactive games (grouping students by their birth month), and creating art
projects by the end of one and a half weeks with 90% accuracy.
Select methods, medias, and materials: The methods, medias, and materials I will use to teach
this lesson include videos describing each month, PowerPoint presentations that list important
information about each month and contain pictures, songs to help remember the names and the
order of the months, and interactive games that will help my students become familiar with the
months of the year.
Utilize media and materials: I will preview the materials I have chosen to make sure they are
appropriate. I will prepare the material to make sure I have enough copies/ to make sure the
media is working. I will prepare the environment by making sure there are no distractions and
that it is the best setting possible to learn in. I will prepare the learners by giving them a bit of an
introduction to motivate them and then proceed to the material.
Require learner participation: Each student will be required to take part in all activities such as
singing songs and playing games. Their homework will include reciting what they have learned
to their parents and worksheets about each month.
Evaluate and revise: My students will be evaluated every other day by way of questions and by
reciting the months they have learned so far to be sure that the knowledge gained at the
beginning of the week isn’t lost by the end of the week and a half. If I notice a large number of
students failing to remember what has been taught, I will set aside time at the end of each lesson
to review what has been taught in days past. After the week and a half is up, my final evaluation
will be for each student to recite the name of each month of the year to me individually in the
correct order, as well as alphabetizing the months, and the presentation of their own calendar
they make.
