Assure Method Assignment
CI 350
My students will recite the twelve months of the year in sequential order with 90%
accuracy by the end of a two-week period after learning the months through the use of two
videos, by being split up into groups to create a poster for each month, by practicing arranging
the months in order with index cards with the names of the months on them, and be eventually
creating a digital storytelling video about the months of the year. This is a special education
classroom, with seven of the students having been previously diagnosed with ADHD. The
children’s sex is nearly evenly split. There are significantly more white children in the class than
other races. The second largest ethnic population is African-American, followed by Hispanic
students.
Before beginning the activities for learning the twelve months of the year, the teacher
will explain to the students that they will be learning the twelve months of the year. The teacher
will describe the upcoming activitiesin which the students will be participating. The teacher will
then recite the twelve months of the year for the students in sequential order. The students will
then be allowed to ask questions.
The first activity that students will do, in order to learn the twelve months of the year, is
to learn the words to and participate in two youtube videos about the twelve months. These
videos will be watched on the Smart board in the classroom. The first video is a month chant.
During the playing of this video, students will be told to stand up and move around in place
while speaking along with the video. The second video will be played after the first, and
students will once again be allowed to move around while singing along with the song about the
months. Teacher observation will assess the cooperation and knowledge of each student.
2. Before beginning the second activity, the teacher and students will discuss important
holidays for each month of the year and the seasons in which they take place. After the
discussion, students will be divided into twelve groups or pairs and each group or pair will be
assigned a month to create a poster about. Students will use magazines and the internet to find
appropriate pictures to represent their month, crayons, markers, and colored pencils will also be
provided. Each group or pair will design a poster that shows the season in which the month
takes place, the possible weather that takes place during this month, and also the important
holidays of the month. While creating the posters, the youtube videos will be played so that the
students can hear the month chant and the song about the months of the year. After the posters
are finished, each group or pair will present their poster to the class. The posters will then be
displayed around the classroom. The teacher will walk around the classroom and observe the
students making their posters for assessment. The posters will also give the teacher an
impression of the student’s knowledge of their month.
The third activity that students will complete, will be an individual activity in which each
student is given a set of index cards with the months of the years written on them. Students will
sit at their desks and put the months in sequential order and raise their hand when they have put
the months in correct order. The teacher will go to each student and check to make sure that they
have put their months in correct sequential order. The teacher will also ask the individual
students questions about the holidays or seasons of several different months of the year.
In order to be considered successful each student must participate in the youtube videos,
assist in creating a poster, and be able to correctly arrange and answer questions about the twelve
months of the year. During the first activity, the teacher will observe the students to ensure their
participation for assessment. The teacher will observe students during the second activity and
3. then check the posters for correctness and creativity. Next, students will have three chances to
correctly arrange their months in sequential order. Students must also correctly answer three
questions about months, chosen at random by the teacher. After this assessment is completed,
the teacher will use the students’ month posters to create a short digital storytelling video that the
entire class will participate in making.
