Carly conducted audience feedback on an article about TV listings through a questionnaire and interviewing her mother. Her mother felt the layout looked clean and modern but didn't feel the content and style was suitable for RadioTimes. The questionnaire responses showed that most felt the article looked like a real product and that the college colors were represented. However, only half felt the images were suitable and some were unsure. Feedback also showed similarities to RadioTimes in features used. Most respondents felt the article appealed to young males, which surprised the author as the target audience was not gender specific.

Q3- What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Listings article.
For our audience feedbackforthe listingsarticle,Carlycarriedoutaquestionnaireaswell asusing
hermom for a recordedstatementinordertofeedbackonourarticle.
The recording:
After her mom looked at the listings article, she commented on the aesthetics
of the article and spokeabout how the layouthas been structured in a way
that looks current and modern. She said how the page had a “clean” layout.
Although on the other hand, despite the article looking professional, she
disagreed with the idea that the article would be suitable to be published by
RadioTimes, as it visually did not look like and the contents included did not fit
the typical productproduced by this publishing company.
She discussed how sheadmired the housecolours used in the listings article
(purple, green and white) and when asked how she felt the linked to the
college, shesaid that they matched the college’s colours. (This shows thatme
and my group made our very best efforts to try and create brand identity, as a
reader of the listings article is easily able to familiarise themselves with the
college. ) Shealso commented on how she thought the images were suitable
to the topic, and lastly spoke on how sheliked the incorporation of the pull
quotations and though that overall they worked well.
I personally feel that Carly picked a suitable individual to discuss and feedback
on our listings article, as for my audience feedback for the documentary, I
chosepeople who fit our target audience to participate. Using feedback from
someone who is older, gives me and my group a differentperspective of our
product. For example, as we are not readers of RadioTimes magazinewe were
unawareof the fact that this styleof article is not likely to be included in this
magazine. If we wereto gather audience feedback at earlier stages, we may
have decided to change this element.

Questionnaire:
Carly used Google forms to conducther questionnaire, she asked people of our
target audience to complete it. In total, six questions were asked and there
were a combination of both open and closed questions. Someof the open
questions included “who does this magazineappeal to?” and the closed
questions included “are the images suitable to the topic?”
I expected there to be comments regarding how our article looks like a real life
article, as we tried to use inspiration from existing products during the
construction process of the magazine. All of the people asked, said that they
thought that it looked similar to a real life product. Looking at the results about
whether the housecolours of the magazinelinked to the college colours,
seventy five percent of respondents said that they thought the colours linked,
and the other twenty five percent said that they were not sure. This is
surprising for me, as I would havethought that the colour scheme providea
link with the sixth form, although on the other hand as our target audience age
ranges from15 to 25 year olds, people who are in their mid twenties may not
familiarise themselves with the college colours and therefore they responded
to the question in this way.
Furthermore, I was also surprised athow only half of the people said that the
images are suitable to the topic, and the other fifty percent said that they
weren’tsure. I was surprised as I thoughtthat the image of the boy “Joe” who
participated in the vox pop, the main building of Solihull sixth form and the
screenshotof the background imageof the woman in the videogame getting
electrocuted wereall relevant to the topic. On the other hand, I can
understand why somepeople responded that they weren’tsureas, the main
image of the woman torturing another woman could potentially come under
the topic of feminism, sexual violence and so forth and this hasn’tbeen
highlighted as a main issue of discussion in the listings article.
I expected people to comment on the overall layout of the listings article as
once again we tried to useinspiration from a real life RadioTimes article.
People said that some of the similarities between our productand a
RadioTimes productwere that we used features such as dropcaps, a variety of
images, a big main heading and a consistentcolour scheme. As media

producers, I feelas if we were triumphantin achieving this feedback as it
meant that we conformed to the codes and conventions of a listings article and
the outcome was successfulas it looked like a real and professionalproduct.
Lastly, the majority of people said that they thought that the magazine
appealed mostly to “young males”, and i was surprised atthis as the colour
scheme of the article was non-gender specific and we had the picture of the
male (joe) embedded in the main body of the text, and to balance this out we
had the main image of two females (one of which was torturing the other.) Our
target audience was not specific to either gender. On the other hand, I could
understand why people responded in this way as the overall topic of violent
video games are male orientated, and more popular with this gender as
opposed to females.
