1. As I am writing the contents of the
magazine, It is important to first
brainstorm ideas of the most
important aspects to talk about
before going straight into writing
the first draft.
In terms of looking at the start
of the article, I think it is good to
include a lot of rhetorical
questions in order to make the
reader really think about their
personal opinion as well as the
serious social issues associated
with video games. These
questions can then be answered
in the rest of the article.
For the images, we need to include a wide range of ones from our
documentary, to show the reader exactly the type of contents
that they will see in the documentary. In order to make sure that
the magazine listing looks realist we need to include different
sizes of images that have captions to explain their relevance. We
could include images of specific background footage that links to
crime/violence in video games, a medium shot of Joe McMullen,
an establishing shot of the college, a long shot of a corridor and a
medium shot of one of our expert interview.
The colours that we used in the
documentary are green, white
and purple as they are the
official colours of the Sixth
Form. In order to create brand
identity, we need to use the
same colour scheme.
The purpose of the magazine listing is to promote the
documentary. The written contents of the listings
article needs to persuade the reader to watch the
documentary so I need to mention the key elements
of the first five minutes as well as exploring the key
debate which is the extent of the impact of violent
content in video games on young children. I need to
include key findings from our experts as well as key
information in general about video games.
A very important convention of a magazine
article in general is to include quotes so we need
to think carefully about which ones to use. I
think in order to give a good balance to the
debate of violence in video games we need to
include a positive outlook on video games such
as Nick Waring’s judgement that they are
positive aspect of entertainment due to the
sense of escaping from real life and on the
opposite side of the spectrum we could include
Joe McMullen’s accusation which include
negative adjectives “loners” and “angry”.
Our most interesting vox-pop was
from a student who does Politics
and Psychology at our Sixth Form,
Joe McMullen, who told us about
his personal and domestic
associations with video games.
He was very against young
children playing with them
because his younger brother has
become very “anti-social” and
“aggressive”. Such a statement is
important to explore when
looking at the negative
consequences of video games.
The style of language needs to
be formal, sophisticated and
enticing because the age range
of our primary target audience
is 15-25 and the secondary
audience is 45-60 years old, so
it needs to appeal to a wide
range of people.
Just under the masthead we need to put
a subheading of key information of when
the documentary is airing and at the very
end of the article we need to repeat this
but by using enticing language to
persuade the reader directly
