1. EVALUATION QUESTION 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Audience feedback is important for me as it allowed me to optimise the effectiveness and
standard of my products. This feedback can include what person like and don’t like about my
products and helps me construct positive improvements.
2. One form of audience feedback I gained was through verbal feedback. For example, I asked for
the opinion of my fellow classmates on my magazine background and whether they preferred a
black or white background. They informed me the black background looked more professional
and thus I chose this colour. I then gained further verbal feedback from my teacher who
suggested they preferred the metallic fence style black background as opposed to a plain black
one. I decided to make this suggestion my final background choice. I made the initial change
from white to black as I thought the colour black made the magazine and the characters look
more powerful. This is because the colour black has connotations of power and authority. Also it
fitted better with the overall colour scheme and made it look more professional and
conventional.
3. I also used sites such as survey monkey to receive feedback. One particular piece of useful feedback obtained
through this method was regarding my main images. I sent members of my family and class a survey monkey
questionnaire consisting of 7 questions. One of these questions was asking whether the main images used
appear conventional or not. This essentially is asking whether they are appropriate to both the genre and type
of media product, which in this case are a crime/thriller film poster as well as an empire magazine front cover. In
my analysis of the results gathered from the questionnaire, this question was answered with the following
responses; 60% said the images were extremely conventional and 40% said only slightly. Using these results I
was able to realise perhaps there were issues with aspects of the images and room for improvements. I then
delved further by contacting a classmate whom answered this question with the only ‘slightly’ response by
asking them why they chose this answer through the app WhatsApp
4. • Their response highlighted how the use of a blur on one of the characters faces did not really work for a magazine
front cover. This is because on a cover you want the audience to be able to see the main characters face to establish
their importance and make them more aware of who is starring in the film. This is an obvious convention of empire
magazine covers but was something I had not realised and addressed by looking at my product myself. Due to the
audience feedback I received I then retook a similar photo with the focus on the characters face as opposed to the
focus being on the gun. This allowed the characters face to be clearly seen and fitted with conventions. This is
evidence of the importance and role that audience feedback played in increasing the quality of my final products,
with comments ranging form being vague to in detail having a influence on my work.

5. • Also my audience feedback from survey monkey included feedback that
reassured me my products were on the right lines. For example, the first
question I asked was what genre do you think the film belongs to based
on looking at the magazine cover and movie poster. This was answered
with 100% of people saying it belonged to the crime and thriller genre.
From this information I was able to infer that my magazine and poster
both had considerable conventions belonging to this genre. This form of
criticism may not lead to many changes but is useful in seeing whether
the overall product is portrayed in the way you were intending.
6. • I also screened my trailer for my peers. This was useful as my trailer was
aimed at those over the age of 18 and therefore the opinion of my fellow
classmates aged around 18 would be extremely important. Their verbal
feedback allowed me to make various improvements to my movie trailer. For
example, they pointed out to me that there was a dip in the audio in a scene
filmed in which a detective surprises our main character and informs him he
must become an informant. This dip in audio quality would have resulted in
the overall quality of my product being much worse than it should have
been. Due to this issue being pointed out through the verbal feedback I was
able to rectify the mistake. This along with lots of other feedback and
research allowed me to produce a high-quality movie trailer with
conventional features. I also received feedback for the use of music in my
trailer. The feedback I received was very positive and stated that the build-up
to the music suited the style and rhythm of the trailer.
