Choosing a Media Institution to Distribute a Hip-Hop Magazine
1. Q3: What kind of Media
Institution might distribute
your Media Product & Why ?
2.
3. Bauer
• Produced Heat, Grazia, Magic, Kiss FM, Q, Kerrang!, MOJO
• Broadcasts music channels on Channel 4 (Mix media production)
• I do not think Bauer would be appropriate for producing my
magazine as they seem to only produce rock magazines, this
means that they have a brand identity for that type of genre. They
have a loyal audience who enjoy rock music. By distributing my
magazine, Bauer will surprise their consumers by producing my
media product. The marketing of my media product will have to be
with a conglomerate that produces Hip-hop magazines as well as
utilising cross media convergence. I think that way of distribution is
more effective for proliferation of audience.
4. Times Inc
• Produced NME, Marie Claire, Golf Magazine, LIFE, Entertainment
Weekly
• Their audience ranges from a Sport oriented target to a Gossip and
fashion audience. They have actually produced a hip-hop magazine
called NME. For me, this means I could choose Times Inc for my
distribution of my magazine because if they have success with NME
it means they have already a streamless brand that their target
audience already enjoys.
• In the 1990s, they merged with Warner Communications (Made Time
Warner) but the merge lasted until 2014. The fact they can merge
with huge conglomerates means that they are a bigger company
than Bauer and means they have a larger audience scale.
