A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
Question 3.pptx
1. What kind of media institution
might distribute your media
product and why?
2. I have decided to conduct my own research into
which media institution I feel is most appropriate to
distribute my music magazine. After careful selection
I have decided to choose Bauer Media. After further
research into the brand I have found that they
already produce magazines such as Kerrang, Mojo
and Q. All of which fit into the style of the music
magazine that I have created myself.
As Bauer media already produces magazines which
are based around rock music and music in general I
think my music magazine “Smash” will be able to link
in closely and strengthen the brands music magazine
selection as my magazine is targeted for a younger
target audience of 16-20.
Bauer media will also benefit from my magazine as
they will be able to offer something to a different age
range which they were originally limited to. As my
magazine and Kerrang are linked closely to the genre
of music I still think my magazine would still be a
great asset to their selection as my magazine is
created in order to entertain and have a friendly laid
back style compared to Kerrang which is more
informative and for ordinary members of the public
which already know a bit about music whereas I am
introducing people to rock music.
3. After doing research into where the best place is for
distribution of my music magazine I quickly found
that supermarkets have the biggest magazine
distributors out of all other sources. Now that I know
this knowledge I have decided that the main
distribution of my magazine is going to take place
within supermarkets. I have selected asda, sainsburys
and tesco as the specific supermarkets that I want to
sell my music magazine.
As my magazine is being created for working/middle
class customers I have done further research into
what supermarkets this type of people mainly do
their weekly or monthly shopping at. From my
findings I discovered that asda, tesco and sainsbury's
were the most popular. This is why I have chosen
these as my main resource of distribution from my
magazine.
I think have supermarkets as my primary way of
distribution of my product will work the best as it has
already been proven that this is where people feel
most inclined and intrigued into buying magazines
and this also the place where people go to get their
regular magazines which they purchase regularly. By
placing my product in the same area my target
audience which are already purchasing another
magazine will notice mine and may possibly pick it
up.
4. As my secondary way of distributing my media
product I have decided to place my magazine in
music shops such as Dawson's and HMV. I have
decided to use music shops as another way of
distribution as my target audience of people who are
already interested in music are already going to be in
that shop and therefore I have more of an advantage
of grabbing their attention if they see a music
magazine that is new and includes their genre of
music.
By keeping and distributing my magazine within
music shops I am guaranteed that someone will
decide to pick up my magazine and decide to
purchase it as targeting people who will be interested
in it will already be taken care of because of the
environment that they are in.
5. Another way of distributing my product is by going to
rock concerts and gigs that are coming up to sell my
product. Some of the possibilities is Leeds Fest which
takes place in august. By attending these places I will
be narrowing down further from music shops and I
will be able to directly target people who are
interested in music buy specifically the rock music
genre.
By attending concerts and gigs I will be able to
directly sell to the people that will be interested in my
magazine therefore increasing my sales as I won't be
spending time trying to sell my product to people
that are simply not interested.
