2. Introduction:
U Magazine is a commercial pop/mainstream music
magazine that has a target audience between the age of
16-25.
To ensure that my music magazine is able to reach out to
my audience successfully, I need to find a publishing
house that has the potential to reach out to my audience
and also give my brand a good name.
In this presentation, I am going to discuss and compare
on two large publishing houses that I have researched on
( i.e: IPC Media and Bauer Media ) and make a
conclusion on the most suitable publishing house to
distribute my product.
3. Bauer Media
Bauer Media is one of UK’s largest publishing houses that reaches
out to 19 million UK adults every week. They also have 80 renowned
brands under their company and some of the examples include
FHM, Grazia, Heat, Kerrang!, Mojo, and Q.
I have done further research into music magazines that are
distributed under their company ( i.e: Kerrang!, Mojo, and Q ). All of
their music magazines have a completely different genre from my
music magazine therefore I think that Bauer Media is a prospective
publishing house that could do well in distributing my magazine as
they do not have a pop/mainstream music magazine under their
company for now. Apart from that, Bauer Media has a wide network
and that could help my magazine gain a reputable name quite easily.
4. IPC Media
IPC Media is also one of the largest magazine and digital publishing
houses in the UK. They own more than 60 media brands and they
are able to reach 26 million UK adults. Their websites also reaches
out to 25 million global users every month. Some of their renowned
brands includes: Instyle, Look, Marie Claire, NME and Uncut.
I have done some research onto the music magazine distributed by
this company which is NME and Uncut. Uncut is a rock genre music
magazine which is completely different from my music magazine
whereas NME is a music magazine that does not have a specific
genre, but it provides coverage on new music and includes articles
interviews, news and opinions in the magazine which is rather alike
to the content of my music magazine. Therefore, my magazine might
not be very suitable to be distributed by this publishing house as
they already have a magazine which has features which are similar
to my music magazine.
5. Conclusion
In conclusion, both publishing houses have great potential to distribute
my media product and reach out to my target audience successfully
because of their reputable portfolio and large network but I think the
most suitable publishing house to distribute my music magazine would
be Bauer Media, because I think it is a larger company and therefore,
it suggests that they are more experienced. Furthermore, they
currently do not have any pop/mainstream music magazine under their
company whereas IPC owns ‘NME’ Magazine which has rather similar
features to my music magazine, hence my magazine might not be
able to sell successfully under IPC Media as it could possibly be
overshadowed by ‘NME’ Magazine that already has a strong,
established reputation in the market.
