2. WHY DID I DO AT-SHIRT
ABOUT LUCKY?
I decided to do aT-Shirt about Lucky because I
wanted to show visually that everyone who
has lost a pet so close to them to understand
that they are not alone and that I too
understand what it’s like. Also, it spreads
awareness so that we can all help each other
when the odds are against us.
3. PROCESS: SKETCH
ON PHOTOSHOP
My t-shirt experiment will be made
in honour of my late dog Lucky who
died March this year. Before I began
the experiment, it needed an initial
plan of what the shirt will look like,
so I found a picture of a blank white
shirt of the internet then saved into
my files for editing. Once I
uploaded upon my document on
the software, I used the pencil tool
to create the title and drawing the
coloured it in to make it more
interesting. Next, I used the text
box tool to make the small title that
appears underneath.After
completing that, I exported it as a
JPEG into my files ready to use for
inspiration.
4. PROCESS: DRAWING
THE OUTLINE IN PENCIL
To begin the experiment, I needed to draw out an initial outline of the drawing that will be inflicted
upon the blank t-shirt. First, I used a sharp pencil to draw out the bold text LUCKY which would
appear above him. Once that was completed, I used the same pencil to draw out Lucky in cartoon
form. I started out with the eyes then I carefully moved on to the head, the head was the trickiest part
to draw. Finally, I finished off by adding his tail with a sharp point to the tip. With that done, I was
ready to move onto colouring the text in with sharpies. I chose to do this on a white short because the
drawings shows up best on a shirt that’s not dark.The strengths of using this shirt was that it makes
the drawings show up neat and the pencil outline makes it look bold and clear.The weakness however
was that it was hard to draw out the letters due to the texture of the shirt and the bluntness of the
pencil.
5. PROCESS: COLOURING IN
THETITLE
After the sketches were done, it was time to colour in with sharpies. First, I began to colour in the
giant title that appears on top of lucky and it is located in the chest area. I began by using the yellow
sharpie to colour in the base of the text. I chose this colour because I think of yellow as that of a
happy and bright colours just like what is seen on flowers which reminds me of happy thoughts. After
that was completed, I then began to work on the 3D effect that would appear behind the text to give
it a shooting out effect. I used the blue sharpie for this. Again I chose this colour because it reminds
me of happy colours but also the sadness of blues because I have lost my best friend. Also the blue
represents the gender that he a is: a male. Finally, I used the black sharpie the outline the text to give
it a cartoon style vibe.This was defiantly pushing towards my strengths. I used the shapries because
they would appear more clearer than other stationary tools on a shirt. The strengths for this was that
it appeared bright and accurate shades of colours similar to the computer design.The weakness
however was that it did not fill in the shapes completely due to the rough texture of the shirt.
6. PROCESS: COLOURING LUCKY
AND ADDING FINALTEXT
After completing the main title, I then moved on to colouring Lucky himself. I started with his eyes. Using the brown and black
sharpies, I completed his eye by drawing the pupil as a simple circle.The eye colour was easy to because I just had to go around
the pupil to make it an incomplete circle like the pupil. One his eyes were completed, I moved onto his head. Since he had black
most on his head, I started by colouring his ears which were solid black. After that, drew circles around his eyes because they
were patches around his eyes. When the patches were complete, I proceeded to the rest of his head, colouring it in with a grey
sharpie. I left a white mark at the top to show his signature fur mark. I then when over with a black sharpie to create tiny dots on
his face that his fur often showed. After that, I began to colour the rest of his body, starting with the collar. I used a blue sharpie
for this, a much darker blue that the text background. I then coloured in his name tag with a yellow sharpie. Then that was
completed, I coloured the rest of his body with a black and grey sharpie, left a couple of white patches, then dowsed it with black
spots to show more detail. Finally, in black sharpie again, I wrote out ‘The Best Dog InThe World’ underneath the main title to
show that to me he’s the best friend in the world.
8. REFLECTION
What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
I will include the bright colours used in the title to make the shirt more appealing as well as
interesting so that the audience will love it. Also, I will use the cartoon aspects such as
Lucky’s in order to bring a touch of happiness and cartoon atmosphere to the picture in
order to appeal my audience. I believe these two aspects will appeal the audience well
enough to understand that life is what you make of it as well as live your life while it’s worth,
and after Lucky’s death, I’m still trying to adapt the life without him since he was my best
friend. The strengths of this experiment overall was
creating the image of lucky because I had it all
planned out and it went accordingly.The weakness
however was trying to draw the images with a
sharpie because of the texture of the shirt, it was
hard to maintain.The audience will clearly see the
bright colours of the shirt via the drawings and the
text, they are bright indeed and this is appealing
towards my audience. I will change the image
overall to myself and my interests, however, the
style of the text as well as the image of lucky will
remain because he is part of my life.
