Hello ! i am a student of civil engineering in AUST. This presentation was made by me for presenting the solid waste management system of a particular place in Dhaka city.

5. Description of study area
The area we covered for our study is a small place of Dhaka. Which is situated in the south and east part of
Dhaka city named Palashi. Where approximately 50 thousand people live. Where has a Govt. staff quarter, a well
known engineering university of Bangladesh BUET. In that study area we see several waste bin for keeping waste.
There are two types of bin we have found in that study area one is circular small bin and another is temporary
large waste bin. The MTS of that area is average that means not bad not good.
7. Waste management system of study area
Householders store wastes in a bin ,basket or bag within their house premise.
Waste collection workers collect the container put the waste into vehicle and return
the empty container.
Collection vehicle maybe hand/push cart, a van or a small vehicle.
House to house collection of waste
9. Disposal of waste by transfer vehicle from temporary site to disposal site.
Manually transfer of waste to the disposal site
Here we can see that a normal compactor is used for transfer of the waste to the disposal site , which is
manually filled by the workers.
15. Effects of pollution
Solid wastes are hazard as it adversely affects both biotic as well as abiotic components
of the environment .
Organic solid wastes emits obnoxious odor on their decomposition and make the environment
polluted.
Improperly operated incineration plants cause air pollution and improperly managed and designed
landfills attract all types of insects and rodents that spread disease .
18. Adopt the 3R’S
Before you buy something , ask yourself if you really need it.
Instead of recycling old electronics , see whether they can be given a
new lease of life elsewhere in your friend or family circle.
Always leave the bin as your last resort.
