Working Title:
Vanish
Audience:
My target audience will be aimed at teens. The gender is stereotypically male as they are known
for being the target audience of the adventure genre, although anyone can watch the movie or play
the game. The social status would be working class as the game will be affordable to purchase
with it being a 2D 8-bit pixel style game. As for the psychographic, the targeted group would be the
'struggler'. This group of people have a 'live for the day' attitude to life and don't often think about
the future. In products they seek escapism. This film and video game would be suitable because it
is in the mystery-adventure genre. Although the setting mimics current day, the characters they
play must solve a mystery and eventually fight a mythical monster, taking the player out of the
current times and immersed into a new world.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
For this project, I will most be applying my skills and knowledge in Photoshop. I have gained
experience by previously creating experiments using this software, I have created part of an
animation, a magazine cover, posters, and general photo editing. Also, I have recently created
several characters and a city skyline setting in pixel art format using this software. I also created a
music video for a previous project. To achieve this, I did lots of research in different camera shots
and angles, this knowledge will be applied when I need to take photos for my magazine cover and
film posters.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
For this project, I will be creating a marketing/advertising package for an adventure film concept, as
well as animation for a cohesive video game. My film concept is about a group of detectives that are
sent to solvea mystery- the residents of a city nearby have all completely vanished. They must explore
the city, gathering clues and hints to piece together what happens. They do this until the 'fog' that fell
previously falls again and they find a monster being the cause of the disappearances that they must
defeat. The marketing package for this will include a film company logo, a film logo, a magazine cover
and promotional posters in several formats. The video game animation will be 8-bit pixel art, I will be
creating a title screen/main menu, a cut scene and an example of a level. I have conducted some
research to help me with this project. I looked at some existing pixel video games, both mainstream
and indie, and looked at how they were presented with animation, colour schemes, etc. I looked at
promotional film posters and magazine covers and the layout and colour schemes they use depending
on the film and why. Everything included in this package will all be my own original designs.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
For production for my marketing package, I will need to take lots of different pictures that would
match the setting of my film for my magazine cover and posters. I will edit these to a higher quality
using Photoshop. For my video game animation, I will need to write a script for my cut scene. I will
need to record sounds and make music for my game soundtrack. I will most likely be using Garage
Band to create this. I will also need to record myself, or another person as a voice actor for the chars
ages speaking during the cut scene. I need to record foley sound for sound effects such as the character
walking, opening doors, etc. For this, I will need to use a microphone, and different objects to recreate
the sounds I will need. The pixel characters and setting will be my own original design and will be
drawn and animated on Photoshop.

Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To help me evaluate my work I will be making a production log during production for each ‘product’ I
make. After each project I will talk about what techniques I used, what went well, what went wrong
and how I could improve next time. This will help for my final evaluation as I have analysed my work
as I complete it. For self-reflection I will also look at timing and schedules, and how it could improve
for next time or if I was organised.
