4. Task 1 – Research – Web source
• Emerging in the mid 1950s in Britain and the late 1950s in America, Pop Art reached its peak in
the 1960s
• Rebelled against dominant and traditional approaches to art and culture.
• Inspiration came from sources such as Hollywood movies, advertising, product packaging, pop
music and comic books for their imagery.
• In 1957, pop artist Richard Hamilton listed the Characteristics of Pop art which read as follow:
“Pop Art is: popular (designed for a mass audience), Translent (short- term solution), Expendable
(easily forgotten), Low cost Mass produced, Young (aimed at youth), Witty, Sexy, Gimmicky,
Glamorous, Big business…”
• Pop art took art into new areas of subject matter and developed new ways of presenting it in art,
Pop art can be seen as one of the first embodiments of postmodernism.

5. • British pop is often seen as distinctive from American pop although they were inspired by similar
subjects.
• In the US, pop style depicted the visual world in a recognizable way and used hard edges and
distinctive shapes to move away from abstract expressionism.
• In Britain, the movement was more approach. While employing irony and parody, it focused more
on what American pop imagery represented, and its power in manipulating peoples lifestyles.
• A very credible and inspiring pop artist, Andy Warhol.
• American artists were inspired by what they saw and the society that they lived in, and their
experiences living within the culture.
• Early pop in Britain was fueled by American pop culture viewed from a distance and so there is a
clear difference between the pieces.
6. Task 1 – Research – Web source
• After Marilyn Monroe's sudden death in August 1962, the tragedy became a worldwide
obsession. Warhol because infatuated with fame and pop culture, he obtained a black and white
photo of Monroe from 1953 and used the photo to create several different images. The Marilyn
works was that her image was reproduced over and over and reprinted on newspapers and
magazines at the time.

9. Task 2a – Idea Generation [individual]
The title for our pop art poster is “Warhol”. We chose this as the main
artist we are focusing on is Andy Warhol he is a famous pop art artist.
I used a bright pop art inspired background to stick with the theme.
I put the title right in the middle of the cloud as I want it to stand out.
All the colours used are bright and coordinated.
The title was made so that it is bold and eye catching.
10. Task 2a – Idea Generation [group]
• The group idea uses the same title as we all like the name
of it and it stands out from everything else.
• The title used is the non- digital aspect of the poster and
has been made big and bold to help it stand out
• We have also all used similar backgrounds as they all
include bright colours and pop art theme.
• Each poster from the group will include similar features
but will include different details to make them look linked
but different.

12. Task 2b – Action Plan/Schedule
3.1
• Add notes here on how you stuck to your plan/had to change your plan and why
• Our overall plan was easy to plan as we continued with the first plan we started with and carried on from there as the
initial plan was what we wanted to do.
• We all chose straight away that we were going to do pop art as the poster and we decided who we wanted to base
the poster on. We haven’t needed to change anything as we all agreed with everything we were doing.
• All the ideas we came up with everyone has liked and we have all put a idea forward to help with the poster.
• We all agreed on a similar colour scheme for our posters and have stuck with the theme of pop art.
13. Task 2c – Planning
3.2
This is the background I am going to use for my poster. I
chose this because it fits with the pop art theme and it is
bright and eye-catching helping to grab attention.
I got this image off the internet, I thought it was perfect as
it is bright and shows straight away that there is a theme
on my poster.
The colours used on this image is yellow, pink, orange and
white the colour of my title is going to include some of
these colours as I would like all the colours to coordinate
so that it all ties in.
14. Task 2c – Planning
3.2
This is the plan of the title, as a group we decided to have the
title as the non- digital aspect of the poster.
The title is only one word and it is “Warhol” our poster is
based off the artist Andy Warhol so we named it after him.
The colours used link with my background as the colours used
are similar and will match. This continues with the
coordination theme as I plan to make the colours match to
make it look more effective.
The title was made bold and eye-catching so that it is the
main focus.
15. Task 2c – Planning
3.2
I would like to add some photos of pop art on my
poster as I think it will help to get the audiences
attention by including some photos they maybe
interested in.
It helps to add more colour onto the poster to show
the pop art theme.
I would like to place these a corner of my poster to
give the audience a taste of what the art is.
The 2 pieces I have used are iconic pieces by Warhol
and can be recognized as soon as they are seen so
these photos will show the audience even if they are
not sure who Warhol is the pieces I have used on the
poster people will know.
17. Task 5 – Evaluation – Problem Solving
• Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved
these
• 1 We struggled to find a book in the library for our research as all the art books had been taken,
the solution we had for this was we borrowed someone else’s book from a different group and
managed to get all the information from there.
• 2 Originally we were a group of 4 however one of our members didn’t show up so we were a group
of 3, we solved this by managing as a 3 and liking each others ideas.
• 3 I struggled using Photoshop to start off with to make my photo but I solved it by using it more
and getting use to the tools.

18. Task 5 – Evaluation – Working with others
• Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with
your team and this benefited the project
• 1 From the start we all worked well by easily deciding what final product we were going to do as
our final product.
• 2 Gabby made the title for the project with colour choice and name chosen by the rest of the
group, this benefited the project by giving us a non– digital aspect to add the project.
• 3 As a group we all decided to go for bright colourful backgrounds for the posters as it fits with
the pop art theme, this benefitted the project as it was easy for us all to plan and complete.
