3. Task 1 – Research – Web source
I like this piece because I find the lines quite interesting as when the
piece is moved it looks as if the picture is an animation when it is just
a still picture. This is what I find appealing about op art as it is always
different and you never see the same thing twice.

“ Focusing isn’t just an optical activity, it’s a mental one” – Bridget Riley
I like this picture as the patterns are different than that of the one I spoke
about earlier, but the colours are the same.
This one is harder to look at without thinking it is moving as there is a bit
more going on in this picture than the other one. It stands out more as the
centre of the piece of work literally looks like it is jumping out at you.
I enjoy looking at this piece as I think it is interesting, just like the one before
but a little more ‘Alive’. This makes it enjoyable and fun to look at. By Bridget Riley

7. Task 2a – Idea Generation [individual]
I like these pieces by Bridget Riley as they are unique is some kind of way. Each piece is different and individual based
on pattern and colour. There is bright and vibrant, with the effect of the colours being sucked into some kind of hole.
There is also one that isn’t as bright but still has a burst of colour within, with all horizontal lines. There is another one
pastel based coloured with almost a jigsaw effect, even though all the shapes are all dimonds and not at all ‘jigsawy’ in
the slightest. The last one has no bright colours at all, just black and white but the two patterns are very interesting,
the way they almost touch but don’t. It has the effect of being two cones when in reality it is just a lot of smaller cirlces
on an angle. These pieces of art have insipred my idea because the patterns and the colours really have me interested,
in partiqular the second picture, as the lines just bring out the colours and make them obvious. I have the idea to use
one of these pieces as a base to my own idea, and put a picture under the pattern to make a new, more modern piece
for my poster.
8. Task 2a – Idea Generation [group]
We agree on the fact that our poster needs to be bright, colourful, and have an interesting
pattern due to these different but similar pieces being unique in their own way. We have
decided to take a picture that has been taken of a celebrity, then layer over it with
different colours and an optical illusion that we have borrowed off of the internet, that we
like. We will play around with different illusions until we find something we like and we
will then know exactly what we are going to do and how to do it. We will being using
Photoshop to complete this idea as it is something that we are used to and is slightly
familiar with, if we have forgotten how to use it we will have some help on hand to remind
us which tools are which and how to use them.

12. Task 2c – Planning
3.2
I will layer Elton on top of the op art, go find an interesting font
and type the date, time and place of where my art expedition
will be. I might change the writing and maybe even the layout I
have chose as I get through it, because I may like it a different
way once I actually get to constructing it. I have found that
sometimes changing your plans as you go happens as your ideas
evolve as you are working.
13. Task 2c – Planning
This is the layout I am going for as I think it
sells the poster to the reader the most
compared to other ways that it could be set
out. This is because of visual hierarchy, as
the biggest letters or drawings are always
seen first as the readers eyes are drawn to
them, especially if they are bright and
colourful.
I wanted to use a trippy background as the
theme Is Optical Art.

15. Task 5 – Evaluation – Problem Solving
• Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these
• 1) At first I struggled to find a background that wasn’t too ‘much’ because it was
difficult to coordinate any kind of text with any kind of op art background. I
solved this by making my image larger and placing the text inside the mage so the
writing was legible and also he poster still looked good, and there was enough op
art on it.
• 2) I forgot how to use photoshop properly, so needed to get used to it and try to
figure it out again. I solved this by letting myself press on different tools and use
them, whether it be in the right way or not, just so I knew what I was doing within
photoshop. Once I am managed to kind of figure it out, I asked questions that I
wasn’t sure on, and then managed to create my poster.
• 3) I didn’t know how to scan in my picture that I drew for my poster. I solved this
by asking how to do it and learning how to use the scanner.

16. Task 5 – Evaluation – Working with others
• Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your
team and this benefited the project
• 1) We came up with ideas individually then talked to each other about it to
come up with a collective idea that we could then make individual and to
our own taste this benefitted the project because they were both the same
poster but they had similarities and differences.
• 2) I didn’t know how to use the rubber tool, as I had forgotten so I asked
my team and she showed me how to use it. This benefitted the project
because It looked a bit more whole and professional.
• 3) I had some skills with Photoshop and when my teammates needed help
on how to move things around, etc. So I helped them as well as them
helping me, this was beneficial to our project as it made it look more
professional and our joined skills made the project look a lot better.

17. Task 5 – Evaluation - Feedback
• Discuss the feedback you received from your tutor during the project and
how you used this to improve the project
• My tutor gave good feedback of which was of good use to me. These things
included things like giving his own opinion on my poster, telling me
different effects I could put into it and helping me with that. He also gave
me criticism such as the background being ‘too much’ and suggested that I
maybe make the picture bigger to reduce stress on the eyes. This made my
poster look more professional, and a lot easier to look at. It still had the
same background, my idea was the same, it just looked better with the
warped ‘Optiche’ and the background being pulled forward into the hair
and glasses and in to the colour. My poster had a lot more depth due to the
advice given to me by my tutor.

18. Task 5 – Evaluation – Active Engagement
• Define active engagement in your studies and briefly explain how you
used it in this project
• Active engagement is when you feel motivated to do the task given
and that you understand it. I used active engagement as I understood
the task straight away, and came up with a plan with my partner as
soon as possible. Then started on the task rather quickly. This is
because I was excited to use the different software and wanted to
create something fun and different. We stayed motivated during this
project by making sure we gave each other feedback and also gained
feedback from our tutor, to change things for the better and make
sure our work was a the best it could be.

19. Task 5 – Evaluation
Accessing and storing information
• Explain where the books/resources are for your area in the LC
• In the media and arts section towards the back.
• Explain how to take a book/resource out of the LC
• You pick the book you would like to take out and then take it to the
desk where they scan your college ID and stamp your book, giving you
a date to take it back to the LC.

20. Task 5 – Evaluation
Accessing and storing information
• Explain where to store electronic information on the college network
• On either the OneDrive or o the desktop on your computer, to b e
extra safe maybe use a memory stick too.
• Explain where you upload work when it is completed
• Onto your blog, also send it to your tutor through email.

21. Task 6 - How do you learn best?
• Explain some of the ways you think you learn best [refer to the VAK
questionnaire results in tutorial]:
I learn best visually, as we did a quiz about learning styles and this
showed that I learn more visually than another. This means I learn
better when I see things like in videos or shown an example.
I also learn quite well Kinaesthetically, this is not as good as I learn
visually, but I enjoy taking notes and doing hands on work. This is
because I find it easier to give something a go rather than sit and just
do ‘theory’.

22. Task 6 - How do you learn best?
• What makes it hard for you to study?
I struggle to study when there is a lot of chatty people near me as I get distracted
very easily, by people who talk to me. In class I find it quit4e hard to concentrate
because there I so much going on, and I like to know what it is that is going on. This
is things like if someone asks a question I now the answer to and t6hen we end up
googling things as I find them interesting and want to go into more depth. For these
reasons, I find it a lot easier to work at home where there are hardly any
distractions.
• What strategies do you think would benefit your studies?
I try and drown out peoples conversations with my music, but this also sometimes
distracts me. I tell people not to talk to me when I am busy6 and try my best to
keep my phone in my pocket where no one can message me or I ca not see the
message until break or lunch when we get our phones back out again.
