11. Inspiration slide.
The design of the camera is simple and the actual infographic
itâs self is easy to understand.
This one is just a list. But to make it easier to look at
and understand images and keys have been used. Also
a color pallet that is easy on the eyes has been used.
This Tarantino
infographic has
used imagery
from all of his
greatest films.
They have been
tailored
specifically to
the audience it
was created
for.
13. Research:
Describe how you located, retrieved and stored information:
I found all my images on Google Images and saved them onto my
desktop into a folder name First Project. I also used Neilâs toolbox
to make all my references.
14. Client research:
Irn Bru is a company that produces soft drinks based in Scotland. The drink is well known in the
UK for its Scottish origins. Irn Bru used to be called Iron Brew in 1901 but a change was
demanded because the drink isnât actually brewed. The recipe is known by only three people
in the world and they refuse to fly on the same plane together incase of a crash.
Irn Bru tend to use lots of humor and appeal in the advertisements to drawn in the younger
audience. The adverts tend to be all realist, with far fetched situations but situations that could
still happen. Irn Bru also have classical adverts that everyone remembers, theyâre memorable
so when people see a can of Irn Bru they remember the advert and how it made them laugh
which makes them more inclined to buy it.
As well as having great adverts they also use the appeal of rhyming with there slogans and
brand names. For example the energy drink that was launched in 2006, Irn Bru 32, was named
so the name stuck in your head. As well as the slogan of Irn Bru gets you through.
15. Client research:
Irn Bru created this advert
in 2006 and was released in
conjunction with Irn Bru 32,
also to celebrate Christmas.
This spoof of the classic
snowman film proved very
popular and effective in
drawing in the American
audience.
16. Client research:
Upon research I have discovered that Irn Bru have used
many controversial forms of advertisement. The posters
displayed to the right were placed on billboards and
received a number of complaints. The cow poster below
received 700 complaints alone. Also the Goth poster was
criticized for inciting bullying.
17. Client research:
The graphic to the right
shows how successful Irn
Bruâs marketing has been.
Products have been created
based on the adverts by fans,
for example a bumper sticker
that reads âFanny On Boardâ
just proving how successful
the adverts have been with
the audience.
18. Client research:
The official website has
games and many
interactive components.
The brand name its self has
a huge community with
games and every advert on
the website.
19. Client research:
The social media team at Irn
Bru have started a hash tag on
twitter and it is now trending.
The idea is that people film a
short clip, and then that clip is
featured on the Irn Bru
website. Irn Bru has a very
close relationship with there
audience.
20. Client research:
As well as being incredibly well known
throughout the UK, according to the
website. Irn Bru is also very popular in
Russia.
21. Client Research Summary.
Looking at my client research I can see how
controversial Irn Bru adverts have been and how
wide spread the brand is across the globe. Irn Bru
tend to have a very close relationship with there
consumers and it shows through there website and
how the fans interact with them.
22. Market research:
What market is your client part of, who is their
competition?
Irn Bru is in competition with many other soft drink. Not
only does Irn Bru have to fight with Pepsi but it also lives in
the shadow of the giant Coca Cola. Even though the market
seems to be filled with copies of drinks and many different
flavours of drinks, Irn Bru stays relevant and afloat because
of the significance of the drink to the Scottish, also the
humorous adverts appeal to the masses.
23. Market research:
Coca Cola is the most popular
drink in every other country
aside from Scotland. In Scotland
the most popular is Irn Bru. Just
proving how much it dominates
the Scottish market.
24. Market Research Summary.
The market that Irn Bru is in is clearly dominated by Coke
and Pepsi, Irn Bru lives in the shadow of the giants but
manages to stay relevant because of the fans dedication.
26. A Kahoot Survey was taken in my class with a sample size of 19. A wide range of questions was asked about Soft drinks and
advertising. This has given me the information that I need to create a successful advert. I now know that a comedic advert
that is on the TV will appeal to a young demographic, as shown by the survey. Also more people play Advergames then I
excepted.
27. Audience research:
Secondary Research. Quantitative
research.
Using the website YouGov Profiles
I have found out information
about the audience of Irn Bru.
YouGov uses surveys and compiles
all the information and itâs all
accessible in the same place. After
searching Irn Bru I was presented
with this information.
Obviously I expected Irn Bruâs most
popular regions to be Central Scotland.
40% of people live in Central Scotland.
55% of people who took the
survey are male.
32% are aged 25-39.
51 % are Skilled middle to
lower class.
34% of people have ÂŁ125 to
ÂŁ499 spare a month.
Irn Bru has proved very popular with the
masses but also incredibly popular with
individuals. For example this man: Here are two different opinions that I found on the YouGov website.
28. Audience research:
Irn Bruâs Audience seems to be very
committed to the brand and the orange
drink, just by looking at Irn Bruâs twitter I
can see they have a very close producer-
consumer relationship. Here are a few
examples. These Screenshots show how
close that Irn Bru are to the fans. They
retweet lots of things that the fans send
onto Twitter.
29. Three Questions.
1.What is your favorite soft drink? Why?
Dr pepper because it tastes nice.
2.What are your thoughts on Irn Bruâs advertising? Why?
Theyâre funny and a clever way to keep there adverts in peoples minds.
3.What is the most memorable advert you have ever seen? Why?
Cadbury one with the bear because I like bears and it was funny.
30. Three Questions.
1.What is your favorite soft drink? Why?
Diet Coke, it's not bad for you and it tastes nice.
2.What are your thoughts on Irn Bruâs advertising? Why?
Theyâre funny and they stick in your head.
3.What is the most memorable advert you have ever seen? Why?
The Cadburyâs advert with the Gorilla and Phil Collins. I liked the song and
Gorillaâs are my favorite animal.
31. Three Questions.
1.What is your favorite soft drink? Why?
Ginger beer because it has a nice and fiery taste to it and it has a lovely after
taste to it.
2.What are your thoughts on Irn Bruâs advertising? Why?
My thoughts on the Irn Bru adverts are that the adverts are funny and crude
which makes the adverts funny and memorable.
3.What is the most memorable advert you have ever seen? Why?
The most memorable advert that I have seen is the new Irn Bru extra advert
because it is crude and memorable.
32. Audience Research Summary.
Looking at my audience research, again it is clear how close
Irn Bru are to there consumer base. Also by looking at my
Primary Quantitative research I can see that the most
appealing form of advert is something that makes someone
laugh, humor tends to stick with the younger demographic
and it is something they remember. But because I was limited
to my class room my sample size was very small, the results
can maybe not be applied to larger groups. Looking at my
Primary Qualitative research I can see that again the most
appeal form of advert is a funny one. Also that people tend to
drink soft drinks for the taste and not for anything else.
33. Idea Generation:
Use this space to record your idea generation. Whatever method(s) you use, get it all together here. Remember you are
making three different but linked products.
Something funny. Humor works. Maybe a spoof of a well
known advert. Maybe the Cadbury Gorilla advert. Or the
dancing Bear. But this idea isnât very realistic and easy to
produce.
I think a Spoof using Irn Bru
would be good, something
similar to the Snowman
Advert.
Video:
Kids shooting cans Irn Bru on the wall with a spud gun.
Then a man drinks a can of Bru and he pulls out a
crossbow and shoots all the cans. Or he throws a girder
at the Irn Bru and smashes all the cans at once.
Something to play on Scottish Stereotypes but nothing
too offensive.
34. Idea Generation:
Advergames:
Again because of the humorous nature of Irn Bruâs
advertising I think a spoof game would be very successful.
Spoof games have proved to work in the past, for example
Chex Quest.
Chex Quest was a spoof of the incredibly
popular Doom, released in 1996. Doom
was known for its violence and was hated
world wide by parents but Chex Quest
substituted this violence for something
that kept parents pleased. So much so that
the cerealâs sales rose 248%.
Crazy taxi is also another example of what a good
Advergame could be. Although it didnât have a direct
link with any product it was ripe with product
placement. For my Irn Bru Advergame I could create a
simple platformer with a relatable character but then
tie in Irn Bru somewhere down the line, perhaps as a
power up or something similar.
35. Idea Generation: Print:
Something that will get peoples attention. A print
that will cause a little bit of controversy. But
nothing that is too crude or offensive.
Replace the beer with Irn Bru.
But put a twist on it so a few cans
are already drank and crushed
with an Irn Bru slogan.
36. Individual Idea:
Write down and overview of your idea here. What is your is that you want to take to the rest of the group?
You can also add some visual elements to help explain your idea.
My print advert will be tied in with my video because my print
will be about the cans on the wall and the video will be
people shooting cans off the wall. My game will be a simple
flash game in which you have to click and shoot the cans of Irn
Bru off the wall and when you shoot a certain amount of can
off the wall you gain a power up and can shoot faster then
normal.
37. Group Idea:
Put your groups idea here. Agree on what you are doing. You need to work to this concept from here on.

Advergame. For each print an advergame will be
created. Correlating to each Print.
38. Planning Docs (Print Advert):
Use the Irn Bru Project UAL 2017 presentation to see the planning requirements. Include all the required planning.
You may need to copy this slide several times, so you can fit all the work on here.
I will need the images that we shoot when we film
our advert to create my print. A DSLR, Tripod,
Carrier bags and some face paint will be needed.
The color scheme is going to be the Irn Bru blue
and orange, with a dark tone on the whole print
to make the orange and blue face paint pop.
39. Print Mock Up. This is my very rough mock
of my print. I would like to
create something like this
for final print, but instead
of having Wallace he will
be replaced with the old
lady carrying the bags and
she will have orange and
blue face paint on.
Potential Color Schemes
I used Palleton to create these simple color schemes based on
the main Irn Bru Color Orange. I eye dropped the orange from a
can and put that into Palleton.
Resources Needed.
I will need a camera and
a tripod to shoot my
print advert and an actor.
Also some carrier bags
and a crate of Irn Bru.

Contingency Planning
41. Planning Docs (Advergame):
For my Advergame I will be designing an old lady
carrying some carrier bags, walking across a path.
The game will be made in a 8 bit style and will
consist of a button mashing mechanic to keep the
old lady balanced using the left and right keys. I will
also have energy bars and when they deplete you
lose the game so you need to be carful on how fast
you mash once the bar fully depletes you lose a life,
so you have to be cautious of how fast you button
mash. Here and some example of my basic Pixel Art.
I still need to improve the shading and my overall art
skill. But so far I think they look good.

Sound Effects:

Mario- An example of a side
scrolling game, much like
what my final game will be.
Candy Crush- An
example of a match
3 game. I could go
down this route
with my game but it
is not the type of
game I would like to
make.
Overwatch- An example
of a first person shooter
game. Although i feel
like this would be a great
challenge for my self to
create, I feel like it
doesnât work with my
idea.
42. Practice Pixel Art.
I made this using makepixelart.com. These are just
a few examples of work I traced over to get used
to working in the dimensions of pixels.

the scenery around her.
