Working Title:
My magazine will be will called Volks Life.
Audience:
I think that my audience will be mainly composed of middle-aged men. I found when
visiting all the VW shows that I have recently been to, that the ones mainly interested in
the rusty style of cars are middle aged men, I found these the most likely to ask
questions. So I feel a magazine focused around rusty rides and Volkswagens will be
incredibly appealing to them.
I also think that my magazine will appeal to those of an older age because it seems they
appreciate the idea of letting something rust and preserving it.
With these two audiences taken into consideration, I hope my project will appeal. I
intend to include a good balance of text matched with photos. This way my audience will
have something to read, that they will be interested in and also a good amount of photos
to look at.
In terms of gender I have chosen for males to be my target audience because
stereotypically it is the males that are more interested in the cars, I am not saying
females aren’t interested. But it is mainly males.
For a social grade I feel it will be C1, C2 and D. Mainly because to be in the VW some
form of skill is needed to work on the cars and also a steady income to fund car parts,
shows etc.
The psychographic is a hard one to classify. I find most VW owners to be Emulators,
looking for the classification of their fellow car owner. Because of this I feel the need to
create some adverts with strong messages about making them more successful.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
I have previously worked on a VW magazine in a few weeks ago in a recent rotation and
this is where a lot of my inspiration came from when I was creating my initial plans. I
picked up a lot of knowledge about creating a magazine in this rotation and I feel like I
have enough skills now to create a self-driven magazine. I am also involved in a VW
Club my self and drive to meets every few weeks, so I have had some involvement in it
all my life, which gives me the drive to create something I am passionate about.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
I would like to create a detailed magazine focussed around the Volkswagen Car brand.
The VW car scene is a unique one with lots of different mini scenes within. You have 4
main scenes, Restoration, Ratted, Racing and Show Cars. Whilst the restoration scene
is possibly the most popular, I would like to create something that isn’t very known, or
certainly doesn’t have as many magazines in the market as it should do. During my
research it became very noticeable that there wasn’t one consistent Ratting magazines
out there. And because my car falls within that classification it made sense to create a
magazine on the whole scene of Ratted Volkswagens. So I am going to make a full-
blown magazine mainly focusing on the idea of ratted VW’s. To do this I will travel as far
as needs to and go to as many car meets as possible to explore the scene as much as
possible.
I would like to have my magazine as fleshed out as possible, filled with adverts and
content to keep the reader interested. My main goal is the make the magazine look like
something that you would find on the shelf, which will be a challenge but I think I will be
able to manage it.
