Infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or
knowledge intended to present informationquickly and clearly. They can
improve cognitionby utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual
system’s ability to see patterns and trends.
3. Human beings are highly visualand because90% of the
information that comes to the brain is visual you need to tap
into that “optic nerve”. Illustrating the data using an infographic
allows everyoneto absorb the information shown by the
infographic.

A comparison infographic summarizes theinformation and
makes it a lot easier for readers to wrap their heads around
differentoptions and understand all sides of the argument.

Using an infographic to raiseawareness helps find a unique way to frame
your data. Health organizations often havean educational messagethey
wantto sharesuch as “teens should use condoms” butif you want your
infographic to spread online, the data story you tell needs to be
something your audience hasn’theard a thousand times before.

A.G. BARR, commonly known as Barr's, is a Scottish soft drink manufacturer, based in Cumbernauld,Scotland. It manufactures
the popularScottish drink, Irn-Bru. The company was founded in 1875 by Robert Barr in Falkirk. In 1887 his son, Robert Fulton
Barr, set up a divisionof the originalcompany in Glasgow, which had a much larger population. In 1892 the Glasgow branch
passed to Andrew Greig Barr (where the name A.G Barr comes from), a brother of the founder of that branch. Irn-Bru was
launchedin 1901. Barr's uses tv and posters to advertise Irn-Bru in different and odd ways(most on previousslide)

Irn-Bru "iron brew" is a Scottish carbonatedsoft drink, often described as "Scotland'sother nationaldrink" (after whisky). It
is produced in Westfield, Cumbernauld,North Lanarkshire, by A.G. Barr of Glasgow, since moving out of
their Parkhead factory in the mid-2000s. In 2011, Irn-Bru closed their factory in Mansfield, making the Westfield plant in
Cumbernauldthe main locationfor production. In additionto being sold throughout the United Kingdom, Barr's Irn-Bru is
availablethroughoutthe world and can usuallybe purchased where there is a significant community of people from

Some of the advertisement for Irn-Bru purposely used controversyto help set itself apart from its competition. For
example, the image below is a screenshot of an old advert of Irn-Bru where the boyfriend tells his girlfriend to "don't be a
can't". This advert received a lot of backlashfrom the audience as the word "can't" in the advert soundsvery similarto an
offensive slang word.

17. Group Idea:
Jack's idea (the idea we are using for our advertisements): his tv advertisement idea is to have two students with their exam
results paper, one with a perfect score and one who failedbadly. The student who passed their exam is acting incredibly
arrogant and proud about their result and the student who failed the exam has an Irn-Bru can in their hand, having a sip of it
and soon walking away from the arrogant student, not caring anymore. At the end of the ad, our slogan would appear(we don't
know what the slogan will be yet). His idea for the advergame is to make an animationof a man drinking a can of Irn-Bru to stop
himself getting embarrassed by his mother showing his girlfriend old pictures of him. His originalplan was to make this
animationintoa game but due to technicalissues, we decided to make it into an animationinstead.
My idea: My idea was to have a student in a classroom doing an impossible exam. They would have grabbed an Irn-Bru during
the exam and have a sip of it before continuingthe exam. Thiswould give the idea that Irn-Bru helped the student do well on
the exam.
Will's idea: Will's idea is to record our tv ad on York college grounds because we were not allowedto record outside of
college grounds. His idea for the advergame was to do a parody of snakes and ladderswhere instead of one die with 6 sides,
there are two dice, one with 6 sides with each number and one die with half of the sides with a picture of a can of Irn-Bru which
doubles the places the player moves (for example, if a playerrolled a 3 and got the Irn-Bru, the player moves 6 spaces) and lets
the player roll again.
18. Planning Docs (TV Advert):
Our original idea for our TV advert is to have someone shoot at cans on a fence, missing every single shot. Then
another person gives it a go, having a drink of Irn-Bru before taking the shots, hitting every can perfectly. We
planned to record this in the racecourse because it has flat green plain, making it easier to record the video.
Unfortunately, due to the college treating us like children, we are not allowed to record outside of college grounds.
Our new idea is to have one arrogantstudent who got high marks in their exam and another student who failed
their exam, before the end of the ad, the student who failed will have a sip of Irn-Bru which helps them get through
the experience. By the end of the ad the phrase "Irn-Bru gets you through". We could do this because we have to
record on college grounds so we will do this in a classroom with at least two students, one with a perfect exam
paper acting arrogant and proud and another student with a failed paper and a can of Irn-Bru.
Failed exam Has a drink of Irn-Bru No longer cares about failure

Use the Irn-Bru Project UAL 2017 presentationto see the planningrequirements. Include all the required planning.
EmbarrassmentMeter Our idea is to do a small
animation of a young man
drinking Irn-Bru to stop himself
getting embarrassed from his
mother showing his girlfriend old
baby pictures of him. Our original
plan was to make this into a game
but we had to remove this idea
due to time restrictions. We are
using Photoshop to create pixel
art of this idea as it is easier to
create and change however it can
be more tedious compared to
other ways of creating animation
as we would have to change
multiple squares one at a time.
