◦ Public - According to the findings of Lunn the Government provides goods listed as
“Fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leadership” (Lunn, 2020, p.3) to the
general public. The Maple Ridge Leisure Center and the services it provides fit the description
of the public service sector.
◦ SPSC 2210 Connection
◦ Recreation – This is an example of recreation because the writing of Lunn states that
“Each municipality has the responsibility to ensure the availability of the broadest range of
recreation opportunities for every individual and group consistent with available community
resources and needs.” (Lunn, 2020, p.6) The Maple Ridge Leisure Center has done a very
good job of being able to provide services that are available to everyone. Most recently
(before the most recent COVID-19 restrictions) they have been able to open up the rec
center with precautions taken for COVID-19 as an opportunity for the people in Maple Ridge
to be able to enjoy recreation outside of their homes.

◦ Public - According to the findings of Lunn the Government provides goods listed as “Fitness,
sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leadership” (Lunn, 2020, p.3) to the general public.
The Greg Moore Youth Center and the services it provides for the youth in the Maple Ridge
community fit the description of the public service sector.

◦ Recreation – This is an example of recreation because Lunn states that Leisure and Rec
centers of all levels in government have the role “To provide recreation that because of its
nature continually reinforces values and ideals of establishing and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle to the user.” (Lunn, 2020, p.3) The Greg Moore Youth Center is a perfect example of
this as they are targeted towards teenagers in Maple Ridge and it provides services and
activities for them such as hosting sports that help promote a healthy lifestyle.

◦ Public - According to the findings of Lunn the Government provides goods listed as
“Fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leadership” (Lunn, 2020, p.3) to the
general public. The Pitt Meadows Rec Center and the services it provides fit the description
of the public service sector.

◦ Recreation – This is an example of recreation because Lunn states that, “Overall, the
municipal level of government is the level in which the recreation needs of the general
public are directly addressed through the offering of recreation services.” (Lunn, 2020, p.5)
The Pitt Meadows Rec Center fulfills its role of offering the recreational needs of the public
in the Maple Ridge/ Pitt Meadows community.

◦ Commercial - According Lunn the commercial sector offers “High level
training, specialized service; expected high quality.” (Lunn, 2020, p.6)
Meadow Gardens Golf Club Offers high level training and specialized service
with its driving range which is why it belongs in the commercial sector.

◦ Recreation and Coaching – This is an example of recreation and coaching
because according to Lunn “Local commercial recreation is divided into
three types of services: outdoor commercial recreation, indoor commercial
recreation, and clubs.” (Lunn, 2020, p.6) Meadow Gardens Golf Club
provides outdoor commercial recreation with its driving range, sand bunker,
and putting green. It also is an example of coaching because you can sign up
for golfing lessons there.

◦ Commercial – According to Lunn “Local commercial recreation is divided into three types of
services: outdoor commercial recreation, indoor commercial recreation, and clubs.” (Lunn,
2020, p.6) Club 16 fitness provides indoor commercial recreation in the form of working out.

◦ Recreation and coaching- According to Lunn “Commercial recreation is defined as
“recreation for which the consumer pays and for which the supplier expects to make a profit”
(Lunn, 2020, p.6) At Club 16 you pay for a gym membership which helps them make a profit and
in return you get to use the gym for indoor recreation. Not only does Club 16 connect with
recreation but it also is combined with coaching seeing as you can pay extra to receive personal
training workouts at club 16.

School

◦ Commercial - According to Lunn “Local commercial recreation is divided into
three types of services: outdoor commercial recreation, indoor commercial
recreation, and clubs.” (Lunn, 2020, p.6) The service that Meadowridge offers as a
private school is very similar to that of a club as well as offersing a specific service
in return for a price enforces why it is a part of the commercial sector.

◦ Physical Education and Recreation – This is an example of physical education and
recreation because according to Lunn “Examples of commercial recreation include
movie theatres, performing arts and sport events, and concerts.” (Lunn, 2020, p.6)
Meadowridge provides many of these such as performing arts, concerts and
sporting events as a private school. The reasons for it relating to P.E. are because at
Meadowridge they provide physical education classes that help the students to
promote a healthy lifestyle.

◦ Non-Profit - According to Lunn in the non-profit sector “Examples of athletics and sports
organizations include aquatics, athletic clubs, health clubs, hockey, yachting, etc.” (Lunn,
2020, p.9) . RMMHA fits this sector because they provide hockey as a service as a non-profit
organization.

◦ Recreation and Coaching – This is an example of a combination of recreation and
coaching because according to Lunn they provide “Fitness, sport, age-related programs,
events, arts, leadership, etc.” (Lunn, 2020, p.9) as recreation services for the community.
RMMHA provides the services listed in the writings of Lunn. It also fits coaching as RMMHA
provides competitive and recreational teams allowing the athletes to receive coaching that is
appropriate for their skill level.

profit, non-charitable corporations; they are: athletics and sports, arts,
business and professional groups, and community.” (Lunn, 2020, p.9). The
ACT provides the service of art in the form of Theatre for the community
while maintaining non-profit status.

◦ Recreation – This is recreation because “Fitness, sport, age-related
programs, events, arts, leadership, etc.” (Lunn, 2020, p.9) as recreation
services for the community. The ACT provides Art for the community as well
as events and the opportunity for leadership for people to develop while
working on theatre.

2020, p.9). RMSC fits this sector because they provide soccer as a service as a non-profit
organization.

events, arts, leadership, etc.” (Lunn, 2020, p.9) as recreation services for the community.
RMSC provides the services fitness, sports, and leadership. It also fits coaching as each team
is coached to help improve their soccer skills.
