CENTRE

Service Sector
Public- Based on reading, Community Centres are a part
of the public sector, as they provide “fitness, sport, age-
related programs, events, arts, leadership, etc. (Lunn,
2020, pg.3) Community Centre also focus on the general
public and enhancing the quality of life and well- being
of citizens (Lunn, 2020, pg.3). This fits the description of
the Fleetwood Community Centre and the services
provided to the public.
SPSC 2210 Connection
Recreation- This is an example of recreation because the
“municipal level of government is the level in which the
recreation needs of the government are directly
addressed through the offering of recreation services”
(Lunn, 2020, pg.5). This community centre serves the
public citizens of Surrey through a variety of programs
such as sport and aquatic programs. Each Municipality
also has “the responsibility to ensure the availability of
the broadest range of recreation opportunities” (Lunn,
2020, pg.6) This fits the description of the Fleetwood
Community Centre.
GUILDFORD RECREATION
CENTRE
Address- Guildford, Surrey
Service Sector
Public- According to the reading, Guildford Recreation Centre
is a part of the public sector, as it “reinforces values and ideals
of establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to the user”
(Lunn, 2020, pg. 3). Guildford Recreation also provides
“fitness, sport, age- related programs etc.,” such as
gymnasiums, pools, and specific activities for preschoolers or
seniors (Lunn, 2020, pg. 3).
SPSC 2210 Connection
Recreation- This is an example of recreation because
“recreation services commensurate individual and collective
interests and serve the need of the total community” (Lunn,
2020, pg. 5). This fits the description of Guildford Recreation
Centre, as it provides opportunities for individual activities
such as lifting weights at the gym and group activities such as
basketball or swimming groups. It provides a wide range of
activities that serve the need of the total community. This
recreation Centre is one of my favorite Centres to go because
there are many options and the facility meets the needs of
many citizens (Lunn, 2020, pg. 6).
NORTH SURREY SPORT
& ICE COMPLEX
Address- North Surrey
Service Sector
Public- Based on the reading, the North Surrey Sport &
Ice Complex is a part of the public sector, since they
provide “fitness, sport, and events” (Lunn, 2020, pg. 3).
Some of the activities and programs provided at this
facility include hockey and skating programs, as well as
large sporting events. These programs also promote
individuals to “maintain a healthy lifestyle” and are
available to the “general public” (Lunn, 2020, pg.3).

Recreation- This is an example of recreation because the
level of which the recreation needs of the community are
directly addressed through the aims of recreation services
(Lunn, 2020, pg. 5). The level of government that provides
these services is the Municipal level, in this case, the City
of Surrey (Lunn, 2020, pg. 5). This facility fulfills the needs
of this community by providing a variety of different
activities. This building is Surrey’s newest recreation
facility and is in the growing area of North Surrey,
becoming the “focal point for recreation activity” (Lunn,
2020, pg. 6).

CLUB 16 TREVOR
LINDEN FITNESS
Address- Newton, Surrey
Service Sector
Commercial- According to the reading, “local
commercial recreation is divided into three types of
services: outdoor commercial recreation, indoor
commercial recreation, and clubs” (Lunn, 2020, pg.
6). For club 16, this is an example of indoor
commercial recreation, as it provides a variety of
different machines and services in an indoor
environment.
SPSC 2210 Connection
Recreation and Coaching- This is an example of
recreation and coaching because “recreation for
which the consumer pays and for which the supplier
expects to make a profit” (MacLean, Peterson, &
Martin, 1985, p. 220, as cited in Karlis, 2011, p.79). At
Club 16 and other gym facilities, members pay a
monthly fee to access various machines and services
while the gym makes a profit. Club 16 also offers
“high level training and specialized services” such as
personal training for an additional fee (Lunn, 2020,
pg. 6).
BELL PERFORMING ARTS

Commercial- According to the reading, the Bell
Performing Arts Centre is an example of “indoor
commercial recreation” that provides a service for
a cost (Lunn, 2020, pg. 6). The focus of the services
is directed to “anyone who can afford the service”
(Lunn, 2020, pg. 7).

Recreation- This is an example of recreation
because the Bell Performing Arts Centre provides
“performing arts and concerts” (Lunn, 2020, pg. 7).
This fits the description of the Art Centre which
provides a wide range of different events from
comedy to jazz and rock. This facility is also
sponsored with Surrey schools and provides an
opportunity for students to watch various events
live in person.
GUILDFORD GOLF &
COUNTRY CLUB
Address- Guildford, Surrey
Service Sector
Commercial- Based on the reading, the Guildford Golf
& Country Club is a part of the commercial sector, as
it fits the definition of an “outdoor commercial
recreation and club” (Lunn, 2020, pg. 7). This facility
provides a service in exchange for a cost, to gain
profit (Lunn, 2020, pg. 7). The services are provided to
the public, to anyone who can afford the service and
consumer desire (Lunn, 2020, pg. 7).

7). It provides an outdoor service that also provides

public a chance to receive “high-level training and
specialized services” from qualified and trained
professionals (Lunn, 2020, pg. 6).

Volunteer- Based on the reading, the SMBHA is an example
of the voluntary sector, as it is “an organization operated
primarily by volunteers” (Lunn, 2020, pg. 8). It fits the
category of being an organization that is voluntary (Lunn,
2020, pg. 6). The SMBHA also mentions being a volunteer-
run organization on the website.

Recreation and Coaching- This organization is an example
of recreation because it falls under the athletics and sports
category. According to the reading, “examples of athletics
and sports organizations include aquatics, athletic clubs,
health clubs, hockey, yachting etc.” (Lunn, 2020, pg. 9).
Based on the description, the SMBHA falls under the
hockey category, as it provides variety of opportunities to
participate in ball hockey from the tyke to junior divisions.
There also coaching opportunities available for those
interested in coaching minor hockey as either a head coach
or an assistant coach.
WHALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE

Volunteer- According to the reading, the athletic and
sports category under the volunteer sector is described
by examples such as “aquatics, athletic clubs, health
clubs, hockey, yachting etc. (Lunn, 2020, pg. 9).
Therefore, the Whalley Little League fits under this
description as a volunteer club that provides the sport
of baseball as a service.

the description for this organization as it is a non-
profit, volunteer run organization. Coaching

participate in soccer. Coaching opportunities are also
available in the organization from volunteer coaching
positions to paid full time head and assistant coaching
positions.
