• Non-Profit/Volunteer
3. PUBLIC SECTOR EXAMPLE #1 - PINETREE SECONDARY SCHOOL
- Address: 3000 Pinewood Ave, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7Y7
- The high school is considered a public sector because it
offers services such as “sport, age related prograins,
events, arts, and leadership” (Lunn, 2021, p.3).
- Connection to 2210:The school is an example of PE
and coaching because it allows free/subsidized priced,
mandatory curriculum in physical education for the
public good to give students the chance to try
recreation and leisure activities (Lunn, 2021). Since the
curriculum is mandatory, it supports that the course “is a
fundamental human need for persons of all ages and is
essential to a person’s physical and social well-being”
(Lunn, 2021, p.5). Additionally, it is government funded
within the municipal and provincial level through school
boards (Lunn, 2021).

4. PUBLIC
SECTOR
EXAMPLE
#2 -
TOWN
CENTER
PARK
• Address: 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7S4
• Town Center Park is a public sector because it is a
free establishment for the community to freely access
recreation and leisure activities through tracks, open
fields, waterpark, outdoor gym equipment, skatepark,
dirt bike trail, tennis courts, playgrounds and more
(Lunn, 2021).
• Connection to 2210: This is an example of
recreation because with all the free amenities
available, the park commensurate with individual and
collective interests and serves the need of the total
community (Lunn, 2021, p.5). This offers the
community an opportunity at trying various
recreation and leisure activities to promote physical
and social well-being of the community while
focusing on the geographic interests (Lunn, 2021).
5. PUBLIC SECTOR EXAMPLE #3 - PINETREE COMMUNITY CENTER

through subsidized priced programs for the
“public good” (Lunn, 2021, p.3).
- Connection to 2210: This is an example of
recreation because its municipal government
involvement encourages “the development of
recreation programs and facilities” (Lunn, 2021,
p.5). Furthermore, partnership amongst
volunteers and professionals helps establish
recreation programs to allow consistent resources
and recreation needs for the community (Lunn,
2021, p.6).

6. COMMERCIAL SECTOR EXAMPLE #1 - CLUB 16
COQUITLAM
• Address: 2635 Barnet Hwy, Coquitlam, BC V3E 1K9
• Club 16 is a commercial/private sector because the recreation services offered
needs to be paid by the consumers, where the supplier also “expects to make
profit” to satisfy the consumer demands for gym institutions (Lunn, 2021, p.6).
They gain traction by promoting the facility through media advertisements and
promotion deals multiple times throughout the year (Lunn, 2021).
• Connection to 2210: It is an example of recreation and coaching because it serves
the needs of the community for a gym facility to satisfy the trend of a healthier
lifestyle while also providing trainers if needed, to guide those who prefer to be
trained by a coach. This provides opportunity to interact with coaches and gain
knowledge about recreation which can help achieve goals to improve athletic
abilities.
7. COMMERCIAL SECTOR EXAMPLE #2 - ZONE BOWLING
- Address: 16-228 Schoolhouse St, Coquitlam, BC V3K 6V7
- Zone Bowling is a commercial/private sector because the
recreation services provided must be paid for by the customers
through renting shoes and the lane whilst supplier "expects to
make a profit" in order to meet the customers' requests for
recreation facilities (Lunn, 2021, p.6).. Significant changes in the
recreation and leisure market are driven by demographic shifts.
- Connection to 2210: This is an example of an indoor recreation
because it allows the community to use the facility to partake in
some bowling as a competitive, and leisure activity as a mode of
entertainment. It also gives the community another choice in
recreation activity to partake in to fulfill individual needs and
interests.

8. COMMERCIAL
SECTOR
EXAMPLE #3 -
CINEPLEX
CINEMAS
COQUITLAM
AND VIP
• Address: 170 Schoolhouse St, Coquitlam, BC V3K
6V6
• Cineplex is a commercial/private sector because
the leisure services given must be paid for by
customers via ticket purchases or movie rentals,
whereas the supplier "expects to make a profit" in
order to meet the customers' requests for
recreation needs (Lunn, 2021, p.6). Demographic
shifts are driving significant changes in the
recreation and leisure business to upkeep with new
technology innovations in recreation products
(Lunn, 2021).
• Connection to 2210: this is an example of
recreation because it allows opportunity for
employment, entertainment to consumers for their
down time, and increase recreation opportunities
for the community members.
9. NON-PROFIT/VOLUNTEER SECTOR EXAMPLE #1 - PLACE
MAILLARDVILLE COMMUNITY CENTRE
- Address: 1200 Cartier Ave Coquitlam, BC V3K
2C3
- Place Maillardville Community Center is a
non-profit sector because it provides
opportunities that enable the community to
enrich their lives through community
programs, community involvement and
volunteerism. It is governed by its
membership and a volunteer Board of
Directors. The membership positions are
voluntary positions that assist in the
governance and programming of the Centre
by providing direction and assistance.
- Connection to 2210: This is a recreation
example because the organization gives kids
and adults an opportunity to various activity
programs and classes to engage in, while
providing volunteers to spend their spare time
in allowing programs to continue.

10. NON-
PROFIT/VOLUNTEER
SECTOR EXAMPLE #2
- COMMUNITY
VOLUNTEER
CONNECTIONS
• Address: 64772 RPO Sunwood Square Coquitlam BC,
V3B0H1
• Community volunteer connections is a volunteer sector
because it connects people to other companies,
programs and organizations that are in need of
volunteers which helps engage with the community
(Lunn, 2021). Their income is from fundraisers and
donations to keep the organization going to help
continue to provide the services they do (Lunn, 2021).
Therefore, they “rely on the efforts of members and
volunteers for sustained survival” (Lunn, 2021, p.10).
• Connection to 2210: this is an example of a recreation
because members of the community are given the
opportunity to partake in volunteering out of enjoyment
and specific interests to help fulfil positions in need on
their own time. This allows them to satisfy personal goals
or ambitions as well as obtain a hobby.
11. NON-PROFIT/VOLUNTEER SECTOR EXAMPLE #3 - COQUITLAM
YOUTH ORCHESTRA
- Address: 1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7Y3
- Coquitlam Youth Orchestra is a non-profit sector as members
are self-governed volunteers and the organization holds
orchestra or musical shows in order to raise money for future
costs that go towards the youth, equipment, and other budget
needs (Lunn, 2021). This organization gives the youth
opportunities and is “good for the society” (Lunn, 2021, p.8).
- Connection to 2210: This is an example of recreation because
the opportunity for youths in the community to pursue trying
musical instruments and play in various events allows them to
find their recreational interests. The organization is also an
example of coaching because professional music teachers and
professors help guide and grow the musical and
communication abilities of the youths.
