2. Public Sector North Delta

Indicate Sector Service: Public Sector, community/recreation centers
correspond in the public sector because they are said to provide
services such as “fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts,
leadership, etc”. That are deemed a “public good”” (Lunn, 2020, p.3).
With that said, this establishment provides a wide range of activities
that are open to the general public.
SPSC 2210 connection: This facility connects to recreation because “…
the municipal level of government is the level in which the recreation
needs of the general public are directly addressed through the
offering of recreation services” (Lunn, 2020, p.4). With that said,
North Delta Community Centre serves the needs of those who reside
in Delta. The fees that are paid to use this facility are subsidized due
to tax base funding. Furthermore, this community centre provides
many fitness, arts and age-related programs that are open to the
general public (Lunn, 2020, p.3).

3. Public Sector Sunshine Hills
Elementary School

Indicate Sector Service: This school falls under the public sector
because individuals that live in the community are able to enroll
in this school free of cost. Furthermore, this school provides a
variety of sports and recreation that benefit the “good of society”
(Lunn, 2020, p.3).
SPSC 2210 connection: Sunshine Hills Elementary School relates
to recreation and sport because it provides classes that benefit
the students' needs. For example, the Physical Education (PE)
classes that are implemented into the students' schooling are
easily accessible and provide them with a wide variety of sports,
allowing them to further their knowledge. It provides
“opportunities [that are] deemed valuable by society” (Lunn,
2020, p.3). This class helps “[reinforce] values and ideals of
establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle” (Lunn, 2020,
p.3), benefiting the child's needs.

4. Public Sector
Seaquam Secondary
School

Indicate Sector Service: This high school falls under the public
sector because it is free and it is easily accessible to those who
reside in the community. This school is well-known for its sports
and recreation, and they provide their students with a wide
range of sports and leisure opportunities.
SPSC 2210 connection: Seaquam Secondary High School relates
to recreation and sport because this school provides a range of
“fitness, sport [and] age-related programs…” (Lunn, 2020, p.3)
to the students, which allows them further their knowledge on
the sport. This school provides mandatory PE classes up until
grade 10 and provides sport programs for specified sports and a
sports science IB class. All of these factors contribute to the
well-being of the students, allowing them to maintain a healthy
lifestyle.

5. Commercial Sector Immaculate

Indicate Sector Service: Commercial- This school is a private
school which means that consumers pay in order to attend the
school. With that said, this serves the public well because
students are given a better quality of education and in return, the
school makes money from the tuition fees.
SPSC 2210 connection: This relates to sport and education
because students are offered higher education in all their
classes, meaning that their teachers are more knowledgeable.
With that said, they are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is
also evident that this school supports sport participation,
therefore encouraging students to play on the school teams.
Overall, this promotes health and fitness.

6. Commercial Sector North Delta Soccer FC
Address: 7921 120th Street
Indicate Sector Service: This example relates to a commercial or
private sector because athletes need to pay a fee in order to
participate in the sport, and in return the club profits on this. With
that said, athletes are given knowledgeable coaches that will help
advance their skills down the road.
SPSC 2210 connection: This is a recreation example because the club
promotes maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It also relates to coaching,
because coaches must come up with a season plan for their athletes.
Depending on one’s skill, they will be placed in a level that suits them.
Athletes are expected to come to practice two or more times a week,
where they will be taught tactical, mental and technical skills that will
further develop their athletic ability. They will be able to implement
the skills learned at practice during games they have once a week.

7. Commercial Sector Sunshine Hills Tennis
Club

Indicate Sector Service: This is a commercial/private sector because
individuals pay the club directly in order to be enrolled in tennis
lessons. This indicates that the club makes an income off of this.
These lessons consist of high-level training and high-quality coaching
that are based on the demand of the athletes (Lunn, 2020, p.6).
SPSC 2210 connection: This relates to coaching because athletes
enroll in the club and they partake in a “camp” that will help improve
their abilities. Coaches are hired by the club and they come up with a
practice plan that will help develop and acquire the athlete's tennis
skills. These coaches also teach the athletes the basic fundamental
skills needed in order to be successful in this sport. The camp includes
having practices and competitions that will help achieve both short
and long-term goals.

Hillside Club (Boys and
Girls Clubs of South Coast
BC)

Indicate Sector Service: The Boys and Girls Club is a non-profit organization
that specializes in “[providing] a safe [and] supportive place where children
and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build
positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life” (Boys and
Girls Club of South Coast BC, n.d).
SPSC 2210 connection: This organization relates to recreation and leisure
because children that are a part of this club are given many opportunities to
partake in activities. This club offers a wide range of activities which includes
opportunities for them to get help with their homework, for them to play
sports and other activities such as arts and crafts (Boys and Girls Club of
South Coast BC, n.d). This organization is open to the community and meets
the needs of many individuals by providing an easily accessible club that
offers “fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts [and] leadership”
(Lunn, 2020, p.9) opportunities to the community. Additionally, this club
promotes health and fitness by encouraging children to come out and play
sports with people in the community.

9. Voluntary Sector
That Orange House
Address: 10409 Dunlop Rd, North Delta, BC
Indicate Sector Service: This small organization is non-profit and is run by
three university students that want to give back to their community during
this pandemic and offer a free summer camp to those who “need and want
free child care..” (That Orange House, 2020). This organization relies on
donations from the community in order to keep the camp running.
Additionally, this club “[relies] on the efforts of members and volunteers for
sustained survival” (Lunn, 2020, p.10). With that said, in order for this camp
to be successful, the community must help spread the word to others so that
people can donate and partake in this camp.
SPSC 2210 connection: This relates to coaching, education and recreation
because this camp specializes in “creating a fun, safe and creative
environment for learning and play..” (That Orange House, 2020). Each
member that runs this club has qualifications that will greatly help children
improve their skills. They offer activities such as water balloon fights, chalk
art and sporting games that will “ensure that children’s play and social
development needs [are] met…” (That Orange House, 2020) during this
challenging time (pandemic). These individuals help children develop their
athletic skills by teaching them basic fundamental skills needed to be
successful in the sport. The main goal of this organization is to make a
change in the community by encouraging children to meet new people and

10. Voluntary Sector
Seaquam Secondary
High School Athletic
Department

Indicate Sector Service: In addition to Seaquam falling under the public
sector, it falls under a voluntary sector as well. All sports teams at Seaquam
are run by volunteers. Coaches vary from teachers or parents that want to
volunteer their time by helping individuals improve their skills. It is evident
that Seaquam Athletics “...rely on the efforts of members and volunteer for
sustained survival” (Lunn, 2020, p. 10). This implies that in order for
Seaquam to have sports teams, they need volunteers that are willing to give
up their time to coach.
SPSC 2210 connection: This relates to coaching because parents/teachers
give up their time to coach students at no cost. Coaches make a season plan
that will help the athletes develop and acquire new skills. Additionally,
coaches encourage athletes to set goals. This allows the athletes to set
personal both short and long-term goals. The team can also set short and
long-term goals that will help motivate them throughout the season.
Practices for each sport varies between 1-2 practices a week, with games on
weekdays, and tournaments on some weekends.
