2. PUBLIC SECTOR
ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Maple Ridge Leisure Centre
COMPLETE ADDRESS: 11925 Haney Pl, Maple Ridge, BC, V2X 6G2
INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Public Service Sector: It provides opportunities that society
deems beneficial (Lunn, 2021). This Leisure Centre, like Planet Ice, provides a variety of "fitness,
sport, and age-related programmes, events, and art" (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). Swimming, skating, gym,
fitness, and aqua fitness are just a few of the activities available, and they are all open to people of
all ages and abilities. There are also art and theatre shows.
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: Recreation: The municipal level of government is where the general
public's recreation requirements are directly handled through the provision of recreation services
(Lunn, 2021). The municipal recreation department and the city of Maple Ridge collaborate to
directly serve the needs of Maple Ridge residents.. “Recreation services should be commensurate
with individual and collective interests and serve the need of the total community” (Lunn, 2021, p.
5). The Maple Ridge Leisure Centre accomplishes this by providing a wide range of programs to
Maple Ridge residents of all ages and abilities.

INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Public Service Sector: Planet Ice is a public service
since it helps society and the general public. Planet Ice offers a variety of health and
sport programs for people of all ages and abilities (Lunn, 2021). It features two rinks
where the PAHL holds games and tournaments. Stick & puck, parent & tot skate, public
skating, and drop-ins are also available.
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: Planet Ice is linked to recreation since recreation is often
something that is done for pure enjoyment or something that a person finds
pleasurable. Planet Ice's programs are often enjoyed by those who are interested in
what they have to offer. Recreation is utilised by the municipal administration to
"promote the development of recreation programs and facilities" (Lunn, 2021, p. 5).
Planet ice accomplishes this by satisfying the requirements of Maple Ridge residents
and providing financing for subsidised usage costs.

ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Pitt Meadows Family Recreation
Centre

INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Public Service Sector: Because it "provides
possibilities deemed valuable by society," the Pitt Meadows Recreation Centre is
classified as a public service (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). As with the previous two public
sectors, the Pitt Meadows Recreation Centre offers a variety of "fitness, sport, and
age-related programs, events, and art" (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). Swimming, skating, and
fitness classes are available at this Recreation Centre.
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: Recreation: The municipal level of government is

ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Snap Fitness (I work here!)

INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Commercial Service Sector: Snap Fitness is a
commercial service sector because it is “recreation for which the consumer pays
and for which the supplier expects to make a profit” (MacLean, Peterson, & Martin,
1985, p. 220, as cited in Karlis, 2011, p. 79, as cited by, Lunn, 2021).
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: Recreation & Physical Education: Snap Fitness is
associated with recreation since it is carried out by people who do it for fun. Also's
on the commercial recreation side, which is more profit-driven (gym members pay,
and the owner earns a profit), but it provides more jobs for Maple Ridge locals,
additional recreational activities for people, and an attraction draw outside of the
capital (other Snap Fitness facilities or other gym’s) (Lunn, 2021). Because it is a
gym, it is directly related to physical education, and the major individual purpose
of going to the gym is to be active through physical education and live a healthy
lifestyle.

6. COMMERCIAL SECTOR
ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Cineplex Odeon Meadowtown Cinemas
COMPLETE ADDRESS: Meadowtown Centre, 19800 Lougheed Hwy. #410, Pitt
Meadows, BC, V3Y 2W1
INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Commercial Service Sector: Cineplex Odeon falls
under the commercial recreation sector as it falls under one of the five commercial
recreation categories which is entertainment services (Lunn, 2021).
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: Recreation: Because it is a movie theatre, Cineplex
Odeon is linked to recreation. Since it is a commercial recreation service it has
“recognized the need for innovative leisure and recreation goods, supplies, and
services” (Lunn, 2021, p. 6) and through recognizing this, high quality, consumer based
service is provided. This service is provided for a cost and profit/revenue is gained
through the fees. Movies are provided at the cinema for a cost and the
owners/corporation make a profit.

7. COMMERCIAL SECTOR
ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Vancouver Giants
COMPLETE ADDRESS: 7888 200 St, Langley, BC, V2Y 3J4
INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Commercial Service Sector: The Vancouver Giants are a junior
hockey team that play in the WHL. They fall under the commercial sector because they are
provided for a cost and profit oriented (Lunn, 2021). Fans can go watch the Giants at the Langley
Events Centre and it is generally seen as a public good, though profit is made.
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: All: The Vancouver Giants fall under the entertainment service
sector of commercial recreation. They serve as a recreation service as they serve as a public good
(Lunn, 2021). The Giants are a popular junior hockey team, and many people, including myself,
enjoy watching them play. This team continues to provide high-quality services, remain
competitive and affordable, stay on top of social trends, and offer new goods (Lunn, 2021), and as
a result, they are one of the most popular recreation services in the Lower Mainland (for those
who like hockey). The Vancouver Giants offer youth camps, with the primary purpose of promoting
happy and healthy lifestyles via hockey, thus linking it to physical education. The youth will be
coached by the team through various drills, which will relate it to coaching.

8. VOLUNTARY SECTOR
ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Ridge Meadows Football Club
COMPLETE ADDRESS: 11435 201a St #2, Maple Ridge, BC, V2X 0Y3
INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Voluntary Service Sector: The Ridge
Meadows Football Club falls under voluntary service sector because it is
“primarily operated by volunteers” (Lunn, 2021, p. 8). All of the coaches are
volunteers and the organization relies on the efforts of the coaches for
sustained survival (Lunn, 2021).
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: All: The Ridge Meadows Football Club is linked
to recreation since people who participate do so for the enjoyment of it, as
do those who coach or manage it. This club is linked to physical education
because its main purpose is to teach kids empathy, kindness, safety, and
compassion while they gain fundamental/basic abilities and advanced skills
through soccer. This club connects to coaching as they rely on the efforts of
their volunteers (their coaches) for survival (Lunn, 2021).

9. VOLUNTARY SECTOR
ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association
COMPLETE ADDRESS: Maple Ridge B.C. V2X 7G2
INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Voluntary Service Sector: The Ridge Meadows
Minor Hockey Association falls under voluntary service sector because, again, it is
“primarily operated by volunteers” (Lunn, 2021, p. 8). All of the coaches are
volunteers and the organization relies on the efforts of the coaches for sustained
survival (Lunn, 2021).
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: All: The RMMHA, like the RMFC, is linked to recreation
because it is something that people do for fun. It is directly linked to voluntary
recreation because it relies on its members to continue, focuses on fundraising,
targets specific age groups, and invests in the future (Lunn, 2021). The RMMHA ties
into physical education by teaching respect, desire, and pride through hockey, as well
as assisting athletes in developing confidence and competence. The RMMHA has a
direct connection to coaching thanks to the coaches that offer their time to keep the
organisation going.

10. VOLUNTARY SECTOR
ORGANIZATION / STORE / CLUB NAME: Fabulous Feet School of Dance
COMPLETE ADDRESS: 22826 Dewdney Trunk Rd, Maple Ridge, BC, V2X 7Y3
INDICATE SERVICE SECTOR: Voluntary Service Sector: Fabulous Feet School
of Dance falls under voluntary service sector because it is good for select
members of Maple Ridge, it is based around user fees and fundraising and once
again, its teachers are all volunteers (Lunn, 2021).
SPSC 2210 CONNECTION: Recreation & Physical Education: Fabulous Feet
School of Dance connects to recreation because “recreation is a fundamental
human need for persons of all ages and is essential to a person’s physical and
social well-being and to overall quality of life” (Lunn, 2021, p. 5). "Recreation is a
fundamental human need for persons of all ages and is essential to a person's
physical and social well-being and overall quality of life," according to Fabulous
Feet School of Dance (Lunn, 2021, p. 5) Dance is used to improve people's physical
and social well-being. It is linked to physical education since dancing aids in the
development of an individual's four c's.
