multiple sport programs for all ages.
Connection to SPSC 2210: Recreation and Physical Education - as the
community centre’s services “work in partnership with public, non-profit, and
commercial sectors to provide affordable and quality recreation programs.”
(Lunn, 2020, p. 5).This makes it more accessible for the demographic of the
facility, promoting an active lifestyle. Physical education is found in the
multiple services offered that teach the clientele about improving their
health.

Service Sector: Public sector – Communities offer numerous services for the general public and are
very accessible. Also focused on aiming to provide necessities for the community.
Connection to SPSC 2210: Recreation and Physical Education – Similar to Mount Pleasant, Hillcrest
offers a wide variety of programs and “recreation is a fundamental human need for persons of all ages
and is essential to a person’s physical and social well-being and to overall quality of life.” (Lunn, 2020,
p. 5). In the pursuit of living an active lifestyle, those who utilize the opportunity given by Hillcrest’s
facilities are able to boost their overall health.

8. Dream Hoops
Academy
Service Sector: Commercial – Profit based, dependent on
revenue collected from fees. “High level training, specialized
service; expected high quality” (Lunn, 2020, p. 6)
Connection to SPSC 2210: Recreation, Coaching, Physical
Education – Dream Hoops Academy offers a friendly
recreational league that features athletes across the Lower
Mainland, as well as skills clinics, where coaches guide
athletes in developing the mental and physical skills required
to succeed.

Service Sector: Commercial – Admittance “provided for a cost” (Lunn, 2020, p. 6).
Connection to SPSC 2210: Physical Education and Coaching – Students here are required to take a PE
(Physical Education) class up until Grade 10, and offered optionally in senior levels. St. Patrick’s also
takes part in multiple competitive sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, and
ultimate. Each sport includes at least 1 coach who provides direction for the student athletes to
increase in competence.

Service Sector: Commercial – Access to facilities granted with a monthly membership fee, source of
revenue. Incorporation with multiple competitor gyms in the city.
Connection to SPSC 2210: Recreation and Coaching – FitnessWorld provides their members a space
to work towards an improvement in their physical well-being.With the option to pay for a personal
trainer, members are able to take instruction from a professional to achieve their fitness needs.

Service Sector: Non-profit – Subsidies & grants available
for families who struggle to avoid program.

Physical Education – Finish Strong Basketball offers many
skills clinics throughout the year, a fun experience for a
great population of the EastVancouver athletes who
share the same love for the game.The volunteer coaches
do a great job leading the participants to success!

Service Sector: Non-profit – “Profit-making for sustaining services” (Lunn, 2020, p. 8). All coaches,
excluding the owner, are past athletes who volunteer to provide guidance to the youth who wish to
improve in the game of basketball.
Connection to SPSC 2210: Recreation, Coaching, & Physical Education – Real Basketball League (RBL)
was found in 1997, and since, has successfully continued to run various camps, leagues, and
competitive clubs for athletes to improve their physical abilities relating to basketball, as well as
compete in a very positive and energetic environment.

closest ties to local communities, as organization in this sector

association strives to provide the community a platform to
