2. This proforma is to record how you worked on your production
You should complete this each week during production
Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week
Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can
improve and actions for the following sessions/weeks
3. This week I have started my new rotation which is short film. I
have made a practice 60-second short film and made sound
effects for it. I have also made some sound effects to match a
scene from Shaun of the Dead. By making the 60-second practice
short this has helped me gain ideas for my own project and has
also helped me gain more experience in filming and editing. This
will help me make a better final project. By making sound effects
and putting them over Shaun of the Dead this has helped me
think of different ways that I can make sound effects and has
also helped me get better at timing the sound effects so that they
are in sync with the footage. It has also made me think in a more
creative sense as I had to assess the footage and figure out what
sound effects could and should be used in this scene. Overall I
have done mainly creative things this week that will help me
create my real short film.
4. This week I have been focusing on my power points. For my initial plans
power point I used different techniques to think of ideas for what I could
use as my short film. This was useful because I needed to find a way to
think of ideas as I probably wouldn't be able to think of one very easily. I
also used a mind map to find ideas which helped as I found it easier to
think of ideas by using a mind map. I made a mood board which helped
my think of the visual aspects of my short film and how and where are
would film it. I then did a research power point. For this power point I
had to create a survey and collect the results so that I could get some
primary research to help me understand my audience. I made my survey
on survey monkey and shared it to people in my class. This was useful as
it has given me an insight into what my audience wants out of my film. I
then had to gather some secondary research about the thriller genre
which also helped my figure out what I could do in my film. Finally I
created a proposal form. In this form I set out my plan for my short film
and explain different parts of it. Doing this helped me structure my film
since I had to explain aspects of it.
5. This week I have been working on the pre-production for my
short film project. I have made story boards and shot lists along
with power points and word documents to plan my production.
By planning my production it will help with the making of my
film and will also guide me on how I want shots to look like. The
first thing that I did was my pre-production power point. I then
filled out many forms and documents. These documents that I
filled out will help me plan how my production will happen and
has helped me think of the different shots that I can use during
my filming. It has also helped me think of a location that I could
use for filming as I previously had no idea how and where I
would film my short film. These documents have also helped me
realise different things that could go wrong during my
production. Due to this I now have solutions for these problems
if the arise.
6. This week I began the filming of my short film. I have spent quite a
lot of time on filming the film this week. This will help me perfect
my film to make it how I wanted it to be. I have also been filming
some short films with other classmates. This has also helped me
develop my ideas on how I want to shoot my scenes for my film and
what techniques i want to use. This development of ideas should
help my short film be more professional and also more interesting
as I will know what my audience wants by assessing the films that
my friends are filming alongside me. I have also tried a series of
different shots in my film to make it more aesthetic and less
tiresome to watch. I have also come across some of the problems
that I had in my contingency form and it has been easy to overcome
them as I had already planned a solution.
7. This week I have been editing my footage. I was unfortunately ill for the
entire week so I was unable to get all the footage I wanted and I had to
edit with what I had. This was a challenge as some of the shots that I
wanted to use in the film were unfinished or not filmed at all and
although it did not turn out how I wanted it to and was also lacking
quite a bit of content, I feel like I learned something as I had to work
around the obstacles which were created by not being able to get this
extra footage. Although there are limited shots in my final product, I
still feel like it can get a message across, even if it is vague due to the
lack of content. I also learned that I wouldn't have been able to get some
of the shots I wanted in the film anyway due to the time limit as I had
some trouble with fitting the footage in a 1 and a half minute film, to
the point where I had to cut some of the shots out. Overall I believe it
has been a learning experience and I shall hopefully bounce back from
the disadvantages that I came across.
