Working Title:
Miramag
Audience:
My audience is mainly dominant towards males. I know this due to when I was conducting my
audience research. The most responses to the survey that I created were males from 16-18 years
old which would fit under the teenager social category of 15-24 years old. My magazine probably
won’t be focused towards any sexuality as my magazine is not catered for one in specific. The
social status that my magazine will cater for will be those in the NRS social grades which have a
decent amount of disposable income so that it wouldn’t matter too much for them to spent money
on a magazine. These social grades would include B, C1 and C2. My product would probably
appeal to the balanced psychograph. This is due to my product being a magazine and I am trying
to make it appeal to most people so that they would consider buying it.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout this year I have learned many skills and have gathered a decent amount of knowledge
which I wish to carry on and use in my final major project. I have learned skills in Photoshop which
I believe will come in handy when I create my final product as I will have had previous experience
creating something which is like my final project. The subjects that I have studied this year have
had a large influence on what I now wish to make for my FMP. I enjoyed the video games rotation
but I found the animation of the game to be very boring, repetitive and rather annoying, which put
me off the idea of creating another videogame. I also enjoyed the short film rotation but I struggled
to think of a concept which led to a bad film. I also wasn’t very good at filming and directing the
shots which made my film look bad and put me off of making a short film for my final major project.
This lead me to want to create a magazine and poster for my FMP as I enjoyed creating a
magazine and I was more creative in that rotation rather than the others. I have also learned some
new skills which I wish to use in my magazine and poster to make them look more believable and
cool.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of my project is an entertainment magazine which will cover film. This magazine will
include reviews, interviews and news about upcoming movies and popular television shows which
I will make up. I will make a front cover for the magazine and several double page spreads. In
addition, I will make a poster or two for these fictional movies and television shows. I will need to
conduct research on many different Photoshop techniques and effects. This will help me make my
images that I create look more realistic and life-like. It will also help me make it look like a
character has super powers or is an alien, etc. I may also want to begin learning new programs
like Adobe Illustrator so that I can create my characters for my made-up television series. Not only
will practicing and using this program make me better at using it, but it will also make my character
look more professional and more detailed. I will also do research on existing products like posters
for movies and television programs as well as magazine front covers and double page spreads for
the same topics. This will help me get an idea on how people prefer posters and magazines to be
made and it will also give me inspiration on how I will lay out my front cover and double page
spreads so that I can get the right balance between image and text.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I will be doing reflections on my work as I create it and I will also be doing a weekly reflection of my
development to I can analyse and evaluate what I did that week and how it helped. I will also be
doing a final evaluation at the end of production so that I can analyse what I created, finding out
what is good and what is bad about my final product.
