This document provides a weekly summary of Luke Simpson's film production process over 10 weeks. In the first few weeks, Luke conducted research, created mind maps and mood boards, developed characters and story ideas. He also created surveys to gather audience feedback. In subsequent weeks, Luke wrote proposals, created storyboards, scheduled production, experimented with styles and techniques, filmed, edited, added music and sound effects. In the final week, Luke evaluated his process and incorporated peer feedback to finalize his film production project.
2. Process- week 1
This was the first week of our FMP. In the first few days we started our
initial Plans. I started off saying what my first reaction to the FMP, I had
lots of ideas running around my head such as a horror film or and action
film because I really like them movies, this was good because I had
already had ideas for my project. After that I made a mind map and a
mood board, I had to brain storm ideas for my film and then I wrote in
the mind map the ideas I have. I then wrote about my characters,
location and props. This was important because the mind maps helped
me visualise my product and I used the mind map to help me create my
product. This helped me in the future because yet again this helped me
make my film.
Also in this week I started to do some research on the type of film I
wanted to do, in my case it was horror so I had a look at a couple of
existing products so I started looking on Crypt TV, I took a while because
I started looking at a couple of videos made by crypt tv. This helped for
the future because I could take and adapt some ideas fro the film.
3. Process-week 2
This was the second week of our FMP. In this week I began doing some
more research I looked at some more research I looked at 3 more short
films which where sunny family cult episode 1, the Jester and 2AM the
smiling man. This is important for my research because having a look at
different existing products is good because it will give you ideas for your
product that you make. This was good for the future for when I am
making my film because I will get some ideas from these films such as
different editing techniques and different camera techniques.
I wrote about the shots they used, the characters, the props they used
and the special effects used, I was also thinking about how I could use
them effects in my film. after I researched the products I analysed the
researched looking what was good about the film, what where the
recurring themes are and also looking at the editing techniques used.
This was good for me in the future because when I was analysing the
researched I was seeing how the editing techniques where good in the
techniques.
4. Process-week 3
This was the third week of our FMP. In this week I made a survey for my audience research
for my FMP I made my survey on a website on survey monkey, it was easy to use. Once I
finished the survey I got people to take my survey. This was important for my FMP because
when I got my questionnaire back I got at least 12 people to do it which is good because I got
12 people with different genders and ages which gave me a verity of answers in my
questionnaire. This is good for the future because I can use my questionnaire to see what the
demographic likes and I could use the things that they liked in my film and I will get more
people to watch my film. After I got my survey back I took a screen shot of each question and
I reviewed each question.
Also in this week I wrote 5 question that links with my film I am making, and I got some of my
friend to answer them, once I got the questionnaire back I made an observation on the
questionnaire. This was important for my FMP because I could get some more detailed
answers for my demographic so by getting more detailed survey I cause try and incorporate
that into my film and that is good for the future as well because I could have the survey next
to me when I make my film.
And then finally I made a bibliography of all the sites and videos I used. this is useful because
If I needed to go back onto a certain website I could just go to my bibliography an use that
like and it also shows me what websites I have used and the different sources
5. Process- week 4
This was the fourth week of our FMP. In this week I started to write my
proposal I talked about my audience like what is the age, gender and their
social grade. This will gives me ideas of how I will be able to make my film
because I have looked at what they liked such as what they like to do and
what the age group likes to watch. It is also good to see what gender and
age group likes to watch especially the types of horror films they like to
watch. This is useful because I can try and aim my film to that age group.
Then I put in what I learned from the other few rotation and how I will use
the, skills in my FMP. This was useful because it showed my what skills I
have learned through this year and if I could use some techniques that I
have used in the other rotation in my films especially the film rotation.
Also in my proposal I put my concept of my film, I wrote down the basic
idea of what my film will be. This gave me a basic idea of how I want my
film to go like making sure this is how I want my film to go like. After I did
that I made a schedule of the 10 weeks I will be doing my FMP for. This
was good for the future because e would know exactly what I need to do
on each day and each week.
6. Process-week 5
This was the fifth week of our FMP. In this week I started my pre-production. I
started off by making style sheets, I talked about the colours used in some horror
films such as hush and you’re next. This was interesting because I could see what
types of colures they use in horror films because this would give me ideas of how
to colure grade my film.
After I talked about the style sheets I made a story board which showed what my
film would look like, I made the story board on a website called story board that.
The reason my I mde a story board was because I wanted to visualise how I
wanted my film to look like. I was very intresting to see how my story board would
look like in my film, to see if I would keep to it or if I would change it.
Then I made a table for all the resources that I would need and also a table for
health and safety. This was interesting because I wanted to set my film at my
house so I had to think of all the health and safety hazards in my house. I also
needed to think of all the resources I needed.
Then I made a contingency plan, I wrote about the potential problem, the effect
on production that problem would have, then how will I solve that potential
problem and what person would be responsible for it. And finally I wrote my script
and with the script I wrote a shot list for my film.
7. Process- week 6
This was the sixth week of our FMP. In this week I started my production
experiment. I start off by experimenting with different font style for my title card, I
went on DaFont and chose 3 good fonts that look suitable in my film, I made it on
Photoshop because that is where I would make my actual title card. It was
interesting to see how my title card would look like, I wanted to try and make it as
suitable as possible because I didn’t want to use comic sands in my film.
After I finished it I went outside and I shot some clips and worked on some camera
techniques that I might use in my film. It was good to go outside and do some
practice shots to see how I would shoot my film, and it was god to practice using
the camera because we haven't used it to film for a couple of months so it was
good to get back and practice befor we shoot our film.
Once I did that I went back into the room and I worked on some editing
techniques that I would use in my film such a someone teleporting which I wanted
to use for a CCTV shot I wanted. Like I said before it was good to practice editing
because haven't used premier pro to edit film for a couple of months so it wad
good to get in a practice it again befor we edit our film,. And it was good to
practice some techniques that I wanted to use in my film. Then I wrote a reflection
about the shots I did and how I might use it in my film
8. Process- week 7
This was the seventh week of our FMP. In this week I started my
production of my film. I started off by shooting my film at my house. I
had help from my friend Josh. It took us a few hours to do the filming
but we got it done in a day and I shot some extra shots to make sure if
some of my shots weren't good I have spare ones to use. It was
interesting to see how I would cope directing someone because I was
not good at directing last time and I got more confident in myself.
Using the camera outside of college gave me the freedom to
experiment with different shots that I could do in collage.
When I got back to collage I started piecing all of my clips together
putting all of them in order and cutting all of parts I didn’t need. This
gave an idea of how my film would look like. It was good that I did that
because I was making my own score for my film with my music teacher
so having something there for us to look at would help us a lot.
9. Process- week 8
This was the eighth week of our FMP. In this week I started to make the
score for my film. I got help from my music teacher. We started off by
watching my first cut of my film and we used his keyboard and just
experimented, what will fit the score and what wouldn't fit. We messed
around with some cool sounds and cool instrument, we did half of the
score at the start of the week. It was hard at first to get the grasp of it
because it was hard to think of an Idea for the beginning but after that we
where getting better.
When I went back to collage I started to put some of the music into the
film and cut out some of the score that I didn't’t need. It was really
interesting to see how music effects the film, it sounds so much more
creepy with the music.
I also started to do some sound and visual effects. And later in the week I
finished off making my sound track. It didn’t take us long to finish the
score we kept on messing around with different pitches and notes to fit
the score for example when we where doing the scene where josh was
running away we made the score fast and a higher pitch
10. Process- week 9
This was the ninth week of our FMP. In this week I started to put
the rest of the music into my film and like the other week I cut out
some of the score I didn’t need. This was interesting because now I
have got the whole score in my film the whole feel and tone of the
film is so much different then with no music.
I also did some sound editing making sure that it is all synced up. It
was really hard to do because I wanted the timing to be as good as I
can so he reactions of josh is in time with the sound effect. Then I
started to put some sound effects in my film such as some creaking
footsteps, a crashing window, knocking on the window and
someone screaming. It was really fin and interesting putting all the
sound effects in because I made the tone and atmosphere so much
better
Then I put some visual effects into my film which was the blood
marks on the dead boy. And then I just finished off by cutting so
scenes out because they didn’t really fit in my film.
11. Process- week 10
This was the tenth and final week of our FMP. In this week I started to
do my evaluation. I started evaluating research, planning, time
management, technical qualities and so one. This was important to do
because it showed what I did in in the FMP. Also it os good because I
can see what I could do better the next time I do an FMP. Then I got
some pier feedback from people in my class and then I reviewed their
feed back and wrote my final evaluation of my who FMP project and my
final conclusion. This was good because I could see what my friends and
my class mates thought about my film and what they liked and disliked
about it and what they would change in it.
Also during this week I sorted out some of my other documents
making sure everything is as good as I can get them because I want to
get as high as a mark as I can get.
