I think my existing products were definitely a strength of my research as it really
helped me get the inspiration for my idea and also how I was going to execute the idea
as I took things I had seen in each style of video whether it be the formal interviews
seen in the I am heath documentary and they way the footage is laid out in the
everybody's everything documentary it all came together to help me create this brand
new original idea. I think the weaknesses of my research were definitely my survey as I
had done them before I changed my idea so in the end they didn’t actually help that
much other than the fact people like when an artist makes a music video which was
good as my video has elements of a music video infused in it. I think that’s definitely
something I could of done better and I could of also got some subject research to
maybe just give me a bit more knowledge of the documentary side of the video a bit
more to see if there's anything I could of added to it.

4. Planning
• I think the strengths of my pre production were definitely my reflection and
also my overall idea as I feel it went into a lot of detail and also helped me get
an outline for my video and also something to look back on reference when
working on my final production. Another strength was my question for my
interviews as they helped out a lot as they were easy to show to the people
being interviewed and were good as it meant I always had them whenever I
needed them. Also I feel my contingency plan and production schedule also
really helped as it meant I knew exactly when I was doing the thing that
needed to be done so it just meant the whole process went smoothly and if
there were anything that went wrong I could fit it around what else I had to do
a lot easier. To improve I feel I could of done a mind map and also have added
more of a storyboard as I lost a lot of it so in the end I only had two sections of
it which was really annoying as I feel my story board was actually very good
and I would of also added some answer prompts to my questions to make it
easier for the people I was interviewing if they got stuck and maybe didn’t
know how to answer the question.

5. Time Management
I feel i struggled at the beginning with my time management when we were working from
home doing my planning and research as at that point I was really finding it hard to
concentrate on the work and get the work done but in the end I put my head down and
really started to get to work to create a solid idea for my project and to get the research
done. When it came to production I feel I managed my time the best I could with only
missing out on a few bits of footage to the weather and only missing very little editing time
due to illness. I got the production all done before the deadline so I think I managed my
time well but that being said I maybe could of been more efficient in some areas of my
work.
I think an area where I feel my time management went well was when getting my footage
as I got a bit through half term when I was out using the camera I had bought but I was also
going into town straight from college to film more with my friends which made it a lot
easier to get work and ended up being very efficient and useful as I could get multiple bits
of footage each day then whilst at college I could get the interviews whenever I could book
the studio which in the end meant I got most of my footage pretty early so I was able to get
straight into editing whilst also getting extra footage if needed ,meaning I was able to be
finished on the deadline without to many disruptions such as when I filmed all my interview
and it was out of focus due to never using the camera before but due to my time
management I was able to redo my interviews with no hassle.

6. Time management
I think if I could go back I would definitely of changed the working from home and
would have been way more efficient in doing the research and planning so I wouldn't’t
of need to go back and complete further down the line but overall I feel my time
management was pretty good as I got everything done on time without really any
issues at all.
I think something ill take into next year is how efficient I was with getting my
interviews done during college and going out to get the main footage on a night as it
made it a lot easier to start editing and to get everything done on time without having
to go out and get more further down the line.

7. Technical Qualities
I used a lot of technical qualities especially when filming my interviews as it required me to set up the
studio including lights boom mic tripod and the camera itself al to create the professional look I was
going for. Setting all this up for the first time was pretty difficult as we had to make sure the lighting was
correct so it wasn’t uneven whilst also setting the camera up with the tripod making sure everything
was in shot and in focus whilst also being level. It was also used when we were setting up the boom mic
as it was completely separate from the camera and required a whole different set up and we also had to
make sure the dBs levels were at the right number to ensure the audio would sound fine and be loud
enough without distorting. I got this professional looking interview idea from watching different
documentary trailers and in specific the I am heath documentary although my interviews look very
different the core idea stemmed from these interviews. Whilst also watching countless other interviews
with rappers and other actors to get an idea of how they are laid out.

8. Technical qualities
As you can see looking at the examples in the last side I took elements of both and combined into
mine with the limits of my equipment and location in mind and came up with a quite basic but
effective way of setting up the interviews mostly focusing on their face so you can feel what they
are saying through there facial expressions whilst using a white background with lighting to really
emphasize this I also looked at how the text and how I could place it and size it so that its visible
but doesn't take away from the interview itself whilst also looking at various fonts that I could find
similar to the ones I had seen being used in these high production documentary's so it looks as
high production and professional as possible. I did have to redo my interviews as the first time due
to the lack of experience wit the equipment the shot was slightly out of focus so I chose to redo it
just to keep the quality to a high standard.

9. Technical qualities
• I took big inspiration from the I am heath documentary when it came to the text
and text location as in my first draft the text was in the bottom corner but due to
how I wanted to position the interviews it meant I had to adjust an in the end I
changed it to to the left middle of the screen which in the end actually looked
better. I also made the text black and chose a very linear font and did it in capital
letters to make it more bold and cleaner to look at. When looking at different
interviews there were a lot that had the interviewer in the shot which is something
I had considered but in the end I felt it took away from their response and instead
chose for them to repeat the question within their answer to make it just about
them and so they didn’t have to focus on me as I would have been the interviewer.
I also used other technical qualities throughout my production such as using
graphics provided by adobe to use as credits for my trailer to make it as
professional as possible. I also bought an old camcorder to create a contrast from
the professional look to make it more grounded and down to earth I also took this
inspiration from the I am heath documentary and also the lil peep documentary
everybody's everything, I was also taking inspiration from old skate videos as I
really liked the old vhs look they gave off.

10. Aesthetic Qualities
I really like the look of my project as I don’t think there's anything out there that looks like it, the
mix of high quality and low quality clips really show off a contrast which I feel isn't done often but
I feel looks really nice. I got this look by using an old camcorder I bought whilst also using a vhs
camera app to create that old 90s/2000s looks whilst then using a high quality production for my
interviews. I think its an original idea which hadn't been done before in the format id done it and
in the type of video I did it in which meant it was challenging because I had very little to base it
off but it also meant I had full creative freedom to try something new and to se how it would turn
out. To improve id add more transitions or have a play around with the colors but in fairness I had
decided to stay away from some of the transition as I felt they took away from the professional
look I was going for. I would of also liked to of added a segment which would have been clips
edited to the beat just to show off some other editing skills.

12. Aesthetic Qualities
• Handheld footage due to watching things like skate videos to give that raw feel to
the footage. I used a lot of handheld footage in my video as I really liked the way it
looked and I had taken inspiration from things like skate edits as I really liked the
raw feel it gave of and how it really captured the feeling in that moment and how
it just added to the whole video in so many ways and also just how it adds to the
overall aesthetic.
• Contrast between handheld footage and the formal looking interviews. I really
wanted to create an obvious contrast between the handheld footage and the
formal interviews as I feel its something that isn't done often and I feel if I had
done it all formal it would have been very still and you wouldn't’t get anything or
feel anything from the video and would become very repetitive and boring and
also I did’t want to have all the footage be handheld as it would of looked very
scrappy and as if it was just thrown together and not thought out so I tried to find
the right balance between both so you get that feeling form the movement and
rawness of the video but also got that high production formal feel from the
interviews to show how thought out the whole video was and to make it loo as
professional as possible.

13. Aesthetic qualities
• Talk about location and why I chose to film in these locations and how it adds to
the aesthetic of the video. I think we chose those location because when we were
scouting for locations around town that fit the style and feel that we were going
for and what I believed would capture what I a wanted in the best way possible.
• Talk about the clothes people were wearing and why I chose them to be in the
video. The video was mainly about capturing youth culture and has a focus on
fashion in some segments which was lucky as everyone I wanted to film with had
great style and really showed off and put the point I was trying to get across really
clearly it also meant that each shot looked better as there outfits looked amazing
against the locations we had chosen and really added to the aesthetic I was going
for.
• Another thing I felt was a challenge was making the video interesting to watch
without the use of special transitions as I felt it made it look unprofessional and
was not something I had seen in other documentary trailers so I was limited with
the editing techniques I could use if I wanted to keep to the style of video I wanted
and also I didn't really like the transitions available because I felt it made the video
look tacky and cheap looking.

14. Audience Appeal
From my audience research I was able to expand my target audience to be 16-
25 and for any gender.
I definitely feel I have appealed to my target audience very well by combining
elements of music videos and documentary's to create something that is very
uncommon which I feel is something people like to see as its something their
not used to and it might be something the really enjoy and it also entices new
people as its quiet intriguing. I think the subject that is talked about also is
appealing to my specific audience as I feel its something they can relate to and
something they can feel apart of as it talks about youth culture and issues that
are involved and also the good things about the culture whilst also getting the
incite on three other peoples opinion on that subject.
Whole project – combing elements with voice over ad music. Swapped
between doc and music to keep TA interested. I feel it was important to do this
as it made the video not only better to look at and listen to but also made it
easier to follow and to understand the video and make it able for the TA to
interpret in their own way.

15. Audience Appeal
• Message – help youth culture been seen in a positive way. I feel by
making the video people can see that youth culture isnt a negative
thing and is sometimes ruined by the bad people involved and is
the good is overshadowed as I feel there are so many positives to
come out of youth culture which I feel by watching this you can
learn that or if your apart of the youth culture you can relate and
feel there are others in the same position as you.
• Locations – youth culture is mainly cities. I felt by using the
locations I did really worked with the video and helped with the
aesthetic and feel of the video and would make it nicer to look at
for the TA.
• Fashion – I felt fashion was something I really wanted to focus on as
its such an important thing in youth culture and I felt it would be
very appealing to my TA and would overall make the video look
better whilst also covering a topic which is very popular among my
TA.
