2. Product 1: Front Page Spread
The font size and colour scheme
make the words stand out. The
font is bold and catches your
eye. This is also because of the
colours clashing.
The image size compared to
the size of the text is very
disproportionate. This could
help catch the attention of
people due to the celebrity.
The masthead is big yet is overshadowed by
the image which overlaps with and makes it
obsolete. The colours of the masthead are
white and red. The red in the title would
usually make it stand out but the entire
background of the magazine is red so it is not
as dominant as it could be.
There are a couple of pictures on the
cover of this magazine but they are all
overshadowed by the main one which
takes up the majority of the page. These
smaller photos are mainly there to add
context to the text next to it.
The colour scheme of this magazine
follow one which works well with the
image. Since Dave Grohl has an
orange shirt on, the red and yellow
colours work well together as they are
close to each other on the colour
spectrum.
The barcode is placed so that it
doesn’t attract attention. It also has a
price tag on it so that the customer
will know the price.
This header is designed to make the
name of the band stand out but to make
the rest of the sentence work with the
colour scheme.
There is a blob here that is advertising
posters.
3. Product 1: Double Page Spread
The colour scheme includes
colours which work well
together like red and
yellow. There is also white
text which stands out from
the red background.
There are many pictures which are
much bigger than the text and
which also attract attention.
This banner stands out due
to it being a bright yellow.
Although it stands out, it
also follows the colour
scheme of the magazine
since yellow has been used
previously and is also close
to red on the colour
spectrum.
This header catches the
eye of the reader and it
also involves a pun
which ads a feeling of
informality to the
magazine.
4. Product 1: Website
The colours of this
website make
everything stand
out due to the
vibrant background
and darker colours
on top of it. It also
makes the
masthead stand out
due to the same
reason.
As the page goes
on, the less
important pages
and articles become
smaller than the
more important
ones. This also
helps for more
articles to fit on the
page which will give
a reader more of a
selection to browse
their site with.
Images are used well on
this page as they all
convey an array of
colours which make the
photos stand out from
the rest of the page,
especially the image
which is in the yellow
part of the page as the
two colours contrast
well against each other.
5. Product 2: Front Page Spread
The masthead of this
magazine is covered by the
image. This may be because
they are trying to portray
the importance of the
person or it might be to
push the quality of the
content that the magazine is
trying to offer.
The background colour of
the magazine is blue. This
could be due the type of
music which Jimi Hendrix
produced, which was rock,
rhythm and blues.
The cover line for Jimi
Hendrix is gold. This doesn’t
only make the name stand
out, but it also gives a sense
of superiority. This
superiority is gained due to
the colour that is used. This
colour easily catches the eye
of the reader and distracts
them from the other text on
the page.
The font that is used is a
serif font. This gives the
magazine a more traditional
look which is appropriate for
the topics being discussed,
since they are historical.
The barcode of this magazine does
not take up much space, which is
good since the bright colours that it
contains since they would clash
with the colour scheme used with
the magazine.
There is a good mix of large
and small text on the
magazine. This gives the
magazine a sense of
balance. The large text is
also spread across the
magazine in a way that it
makes sure that one side of
the magazine is not heavier
than the other.
6. Product 2: Double Page Spread
The colours of this page
all follow a theme which
can link the pictures and
the text together as they
both use the same
colours. These colours
used are also the colours
that Johnny Cash used for
his later album covers,
which links to the topic.
The darker colour
scheme of this page
can be linked with
Cash’s music becoming
more dark as he got
older, which is what
the magazine is talking
about.
The masthead of this
magazine is bold and
stands out to the reader
due to it being very
bright, in contrast to the
dark colour scheme of
the rest of the page. This
masthead is also what
Johnny Cash put on his
later album covers.
The size of the text
on this page is
chosen well as it
doesn’t make the
amount of words
feel overwhelming
and doesn’t make
the page feel too
word heavy.
7. Product 2: Website
The masthead of this
page stands out from
the background due
to its colour being a
darker one than the
bright white
background of which
it is placed on. This
signifies that it is the
name of the website
easily due to its
dominance on the
page.
The colours of this
page are very
minimalist with the
few vibrant colours
coming from adverts
and social media
buttons. Out of the
images that are
displayed, only one
of them is in colour.
This could be due to
the colour scheme
of the website.
This side bar
shows less
important music
news as it is much
smaller and
confined than the
rest of the music
news which is on
the main page as
they take up a
good portion of
the page.
The main news
stories and articles
only convey a small
amount of
information so that
you are led to open
that article to learn
more about what it
is talking about.
8. Product 3: Front Page Spread
The masthead stands out above the
image to catch the eye of the consumer.
It is formal because it is taking priority
over the image to show the importance of
the magazine.
There are blobs which show the people in an
interview in the magazine and there is a
blob which stands out due to the colours
which is advertising a free CD in the
magazine. This might sway more people in
to buying the magazine.
The writing on the side of the magazine is
strictly following a colour scheme of white,
black and red. The text is also smaller on the
right side than the text on the left which
makes the text on the left stand out more to
a reader.
This section incorporates a bunch of
colours and they work in a way that
the brightness of the colours get
darker as the text goes on.
The barcode for this magazine is
small and does not catch the
readers eye as it is incorporated
well in to the design.
The text on this side works well with the
album image that is in the bottom left of
the magazine. Since the album is just
called “Dylan”, the designer has chosen
to put the man in the pictures first name
above so that it joins with the album.
This also signifies what the magazines
theme is and who is the main focus in
this issue.
The magazine price and issue is placed in
a way that it blends in with the magazine
so that it does not take the attention
away from the rest of the magazine.
9. Product 3: Double Page Spread
There is a very
large letter
compared to the
size of the font
used throughout
the rest of the
double page
spread. This
signifies where to
start reading well
and also grabs the
eye of the reader.
The photo used
for this double
page spread
shows the
person that the
article is focusing
on. This helps
the reader know
who this person
is whilst reading
the article.
There is a section in
the middle of the
two pages which
holds a sub story
which is placed well
as it is near the
bottom and is in a
less aesthetically
appealing colour
scheme which
makes the reader
notice it later than
the article or the
writing on the
picture.
The header of
this page uses a
colour which
contrasts with
the picture as it
is in the
background. This
makes the text
stand out and it
also tries to grab
the your
attention so that
you read it first.
10. Product 3: Website
The masthead of
this website is
relatively small
yet it is bigger
than most of the
text on the
screen. This
makes it stand
out and helps it
signify that it is
the masthead of
the page.
This website shows
previews of its
magazines and
describes them a
little bit on their
front page. This is so
that they can get the
interest of the
reader to make
them click on the
magazine and
purchase it so they
can find out more
about what is inside.
The images on this page stand out due to the basic colour scheme that it
follows with the text and the background. Since the colour scheme consists of
black, white and grey, these bright and colourful pictures easily catch the eye
of the reader and stand out a lot.
