Subliminal Messages Should Not Be Legal
Subliminal messages
By:
Edianis Seda
Advanced Placement Psychology
Mr. Cuetara
June, 4th 2015 Abstract
Subliminal messages are messages that are perceived in the unconscious mind that most of the time
we are not aware of. These messages are mainly designed to influence that way we think and feel.
They are used to get people to buy products from their company. Subliminal messages can be
perceived auditory or visually. Subliminal messages should not be legal and should be banned from
being used in advertisement for it can lead to negative results. There should be another way to
advertise that. Doesn t involve manipulating our minds into buying the products.
Subliminal messages are messages that are either auditory or visual which is presented below the
normal limits of perception. An example of a subliminal messages would be that a message might be
inaudible to the conscious mind but may be audible to the unconscious mind, in this case a deeper part
of your mind. Subliminal messages may also be in other cases an image that is unperceived but will be
perceived deeper in your mind. To put in simpler terms, subliminal messages are basically hypnotism
that many companies may use to encourage people to buy the product they re selling.
According to the article The Influence of Subliminal Messages , it states that subliminal messages can
influence our attitudes and behavior. Also, under certain circumstances of course, subliminal messages
may or may not have the

Political Socialization
Chapter 11 public opinion Political Socialization Essay Question Most people are exposed to the same
principals and agents of political socialization. Families spread values that support political authorities
and can heavily contribute to children s initial political ideological views, or party preferences.
Families influence political knowledge and identification depending on variables such as family
demographics, life cycle, parenting style, parental level of political skepticism and frequency of
political discussions. Demographics such as gender and age also attribute to political socialization.
School is another agent of political socialization. Spending numerous years in school, children in the
United States are taught and reinforced a view of the world that their text books tell them to trust.
Through primary, secondary and high schools, students are taught key principles such as individual
rights and property, personal responsibility and duty to their nation. Another is mass media. Mass
media is not only a source of political information; it is an influence on political values and beliefs.
Various media outlets, through news coverage and late night programs, provide different partisan
policy stances that are associated with political participation. Religions, beliefs, and practices play a
role in political opinion formation and political participation. The perspective offered by religious
institutions shape judgement regarding public policy, and political decision

The Itrust Database
When further analyzing the iTrust database, there was an issue of the lack of credit card information
not being encrypted. The lack of credit cart encryption does not only lead to a major concern for the
company, but also for the client. The risk of exposed PII invalidates any confidentiality for the
company due to the threat posed to client credit card information. Because health care provider is a
credit card merchant since they accept, transmit, or store credit card data, they must adhere to the
Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) to protect the customer s confidential
data. One of the requirements is that merchants must encrypt transmission of cardholder data and

security strategy for monitoring a network information system for abnormal or authorized activity. An
intrusion detection system (IDS) is set of tools which monitor a network topology by providing a
system administrator with the overall picture of how the system is being utilized. Executing an IDS
will make a difference in creating a defense in depth architecture to be more compelling in
recognizing any form of malicious activities. The capacity of the IDS is to monitor and survey the
network traffic without affecting network activity. IDS tools gather information and analyzes it against
a pre characterized manage set, and against a set of known assault marks . The IDS can scan port

Realism And The Theory Of Realism
Introduction
The idea of Realism was unofficially was created in fifth century BC by Thucydides, and continued
through Niccolo Machiavelli. This lead to the first official IR theory of realism in Thomas Hobbes,
amd Hans Morgenthau, known as Classical Realist. From there Classical Realism evolved to the ideas
of Kenneth Waltz, which brought along the ideas of neo realism or structural realism theory. Then
came offensive, defensive, and neoclassical realism. Overall the main idea of realism is defined by
internationalrelations.org as when looking at the political system, or more specifically, the
international system, realists focus their ideas about how international relations work based upon the
concepts of power and security. ( Realism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ranges from military presence to business presence. These countries want a piece of Afghanistan
politics. This analysis of Realism will use this situation as an example of why these countries are
involving themselves in Afghanistan, to better understand the theory.
System and Power
A system, from a neorealist point of view is described by Waltz as A system is composed of a structure
and of interacting units. The structure is the system wide component that makes it possible to think of
the system as a whole. Waltz furthermore goes into how to define a structure A structure is defined by
the arrangement of its parts. (Waltz, 1979) Bringing the neorealism theory that looking at politics,
structure is the arrangement of the states, not the collection of them. This leads in to the neorealism
idea that there is no central authority, and the world depends on balance (Sterling Folker, 2013). That
the one thing structure or balance depends on is the states, not NGOs or other actors. From a classical
realism perspective according to Morgenthau s It is a characteristic aspect of all politics, domestic as
well as international, that frequently its basic manifestations do not appear as what they actually are
manifestations of a struggle for power . (Morgenthau, Thompson Clinton, 2010) Morgenthau is saying
that states are power seekers, and strive for dominance which is

An Epic Hero in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a Poem...
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a poem by the Pearl Poet, sends an epic hero on a journey to
discover his flaw. In his journey of figuring out his flaw, Sir Gawain encounters a Green Knight that
holds a holly and axe in his hands. On a Christmas dinner, the Green knight rides into King Arthur s
hall proposing a game. Any knight willing to cut off the his head is able to keep the axe, but only if he
agrees to let the Green Knight return the blow at a later time. The Green knight was described as one
who was plantlike and had a giant body structure, leading to the assumption that he was a certain type
of vegetation god. The knight also held a holly in one hand and an axe in another, possibly
representing the necessity of plants to die in the cooler climates in order for them to grow again when
it summer returns. The Green Knight, playing an important role for plant life and crops, is still a
mysterious character. His odd characteristics with his supernatural powers make it evident that the
Green Knight has some connection with crops and vegetation. The Green Knight s physical features
are clearly described in the story. He was described to have green skin and a huge build: greater than
any on earth; from neck to loin so strong and thickly made, and with limbs so long and so great that he
seemed even as a giant... For he was clad all in green This indicates that the knight s sturdy build and
green color is like that of a healthy plant. The knight s long limbs

Essay on The Early Renaissance
The Early Renaissance
Today, what is considered to be the modern times began with the Early Renaissance at the start of the
15th century. As time has progressed, things have modified within societies to mold with the new
ways of thinking for that time. Between the years of the 1400 s and the 1800 s this world has
undergone many changes. Focusing on Europe, the major forces of change were in politics,
economics, and religion. In modern European history political effort were supplied by the state. Early
in the 15th century political warfare was the theme of everyday life. It was not until the Peace of Lodi

Banking was over run by the Germans. Trade in the East came to an end with the fall of
Constantinople. By the end of the 16th century, economics had shifted from the Mediterranean to the
Atlantic with the Spanish discovery of the New World. With this trade shift the worldwide economy
was in the makings. In the 17th century mercantilism is very prominent. Things such as state granted
monopolies, regulated exports and imports, tariffs, custom duties, quotas, slavery, colonial taxes, and
plantation system were in full effect. By the 18th century, a supply and demand economy had
produced. Through mercantilism, state regulations lowered the living standards of workers. The every

of the 15th century, religion in Europe revolved around the religious beliefs of the Papal Court.
Though there were many religious battles over the Church, few doubted the Church, following its
every demand. By the 16th century, many began to challenge that of the Papal State. People felt that
the beliefs and efforts of the Church had traveled way off track, and was in need of some repair.
Martin Luther began the radical attempt to fix what had gone wrong within the Papal State by posting
his Ninety five Theses upon the door of the Wittenberg University. The outcome of Luther s efforts

Level One Trauma Nurse
What circumstances or events in your life have led you to choose nursing as a career?
Each blessed day of my journey toward nursing is not a job or an advancement toward a career, it is a
gift of care to be shared from my happy heart with those that need healing. From a very young age I
have been uniquely designed to be a nurse. My journey has been comprised of many nursing qualities
through vast disciplines and experiences. In this short essay, I will briefly share my unique
experiences of how God continues to teach me to be a Level One Trauma Nurse.
For over ten years of my life I dedicated everything I had to competitive cheer. Competition cheer in
Texas is a very serious business which can provide the absolute best scholarships for college. While
going to school full time, our competition team expected us to practice over thirty hours per week in
addition to the high school cheer requirements. This discipline paid off as many of our teams won the

Gesellschaft And Organic Solidarity
The social structure that bests fit my community would be organic solidarity, and Gesellschaft.
Organic solidarity is a theory that Emile Durkheim use to help illustrate social structure. He
hypothesized that a society s structure is determined by its division of labor and the task individuals
perform to ensure society will function properly (Lesson5, Video). To me organic solidarity is defined
as a big, diverse society with people of different personalities, cultural backgrounds, and values
coexist. Valdosta displays the elements of organic solidarity in many ways. Gesellschaft is very similar
to organic solidarity it is a theory that was composed by Ferdinand Tonnies. Tonnies theorized that
social structure is driven by a community s size and willingness to change (Lesson 5, Video). In my
own word Tonnies theory means that a society structure directly correlates with the size of the
community and the effort that those put into show. The social structure of Valdosta is displayed
through the theories of organic solidarity and Gesellschaft directly. The characteristics that serves as
example are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Devil In The White City Critical Analysis
Two stories focusing on horrific murder share more than just that similarity. The Devil in the White
City is a novel by Erik Larson that focuses on America s first serial killer, Herman Webster Mudgett,
most commonly known as H. H. Holmes. It alternates telling of the construction of the Chicago World
Fair contrasting with the horrendous murders of the man that essentially invented the term psychopath.
On the other hand, The Hound of Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle focuses on the tale of
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as they try to solve the mystery surrounding the death of Charles
Baskerville. These themes are linked through murder and the British surname Holmes, an alias taken
from Doyle s stories to claim to have land in England.

Value Of Gold In Beowulf
In the Medieval Ages, wealth and jewels were not just a material one would use to buy lavish things or
to wear to show an importance in status. Armor, weapons, jewels, coins and wealthy treasures
possessed significant value within the warrior realms of duty, protection, heroism, loyalty and
accomplishment. Gold can also symbolize a King s royalty, relationships and fame. Modern day
archeological evidence proves this importance of metal and treasure through the uncovered Sutton
Hoo Anglo Saxon burial treasure hoard. The significance to Sutton Hoo shows clear evidence that at
this time, society thought of gold as a symbol for Pagan beliefs into the afterlife and as precious and
delicate. In Beowulf, the reader can clearly identify this value of wealth. The reader understands that
the power of wealth possessed by King Hrothgar is something that is given to only his best warriors.
In the beginning, Beowulf shows evidence that he fights for fame and reputation to receive gold and
boasts to improve his reputation. At the end of the poem, King Beowulf fights for the heroic code to
preserve peace and stability within the Geats society. However, King Beowulf s main duty is to be just

It happens many times. A person finds the car of their dreams. They drive it around for a few weeks
when it happens. The car will not start, it makes a funny noise, or the breaks just will not do anything

so, what happens when the exact same problem happens more than 3 times? It is just not fair to pay all
this money on your brand new affordable car. But, one should not worry. There is a solution to all

for any serious safety defect, such as brakes or steering, the manufacturer has one attempt. If it is a

The Transition From Drilling On Shore
Overview This project is dealing with the transition from drilling on shore to more difficult tasks that
companies are taking upon them with drilling off shore into shallow and deep water. Since drilling for
easy oil has depleted, companies are pursuing sources for the heavy oil by moving to offshore drilling.
The project was originally approved in 2014, but since the approval of the project oil prices have
plunged more than 50% percent in 2015. XYZ s Houston refinery is located on the Texas Gulf Coast
and has a capacity of 200,000 bpd. It is capable of processing mix of light and heavy crudes. The
company for years has been considering an expansion project for the Houston based refinery, which
can provide the company with an advantage due to the favorable heavy crude prices and light oil from
the Middle East. The expansion would be beneficial because bringing the heavy oil from Mexico and
Venezuela have both low shipping cost and lesser travel distance to the refinery. The expansion project
would also benefit from the Trans Canadian pipeline when it s completed which would bring heavy oil
from the Oil Sands in Canada. Objective The Houston Refinery s current configuration refines light
crudes with some capacity to refine heavy crude oil. With the proposed expansion the objective is to
increase the capacity for the heavier crude oil at the refinery, the heavy crude oil would be brought in

Themes In The 5th Wave By Rick Yancey
The 5th Wave, a young adult, science fiction novel by Rick Yancey, can be used to teach many themes
to its readers. Some of these themes include, people are defined by the choices they make, family is
worth dying for, and survival depends on being dedicated to others, not yourself. The characters can
teach us a lot by their experiences and Rick Yancey most likely did this on purpose. There are many
examples in the text to support these recurring themes. To start with, we will examine the theme,
people are defined by the choices they make. One of the greatest examples for supporting this theme
in The 5th Wave, is the character, Evan Walker. He is half human and half alien. However, he
abandons the aliens and chooses to be human. In this case, being human just means siding with them,
especially since there are few left. Evan made choices to be human many times. In the first place, he
didn t kill Cassie on the highway. He describes it like he couldn t. Therefore, he showed feelings of
guilt, love, pity, and other human emotions. This was his initial act of starting to side with mankind.
He even saves her when she s dying in the snow bank, taking her in and nursing her back to health.
Later on in the book, he gives up his house to burn it as a distraction. Once they continue on their
journey, he protects her from soldiers that the aliens are training. Which means, he killed his own in
order to keep Cassie safe. Eventually, he even breaks into the alien s main base,

In The Hollow Men, the poem creates the story of individuals that are empty while residing in an
alternate world that portrays itself as dark and can represent the emptiness of the stuffed men. They
are indeed stuffed but it may not be in straw as customary, maybe in regrets and sins since this poem
alludes more than once to bible like stories or bits and pieces. The darker world they live in may be
the purgatory of unhappiness since they did nothing but bad and did not repent. Which brings up the
topic if they were just a poem fantasy or if The Hollow Men are a warning and bring out a hidden

UK s Main Electoral System and Should It Be Reformed
Over the years Britain s pluralist electoral system has been scrutinised by many political and pressure

The system is also disproportionate, an example of this is can be shown in a study of the 2001 General
Election.
From the 2001 General Election results, we can deliberately see that through our pluralist electoral
system, the system is disproportionate. We can see many examples of this]. The percentage of votes to
the percentage of seats is unequal, showing how its seats not votes that count, and judging by labour s
landslide victory. In fact, we can see that Labour did not even gain a majority from voters but only
from seats. Another example is the Liberal Democrats; they received 18.3% of the electorate s votes,
but only received less than half the percentage of seats at 7.9%. Labour also received a mere 9% more
votes than the Conservatives, but yet still managed to acquire around 247 more seats. This also shows
that some parties, especially Labour in the 2001 elections, are over represented and this can lead
eventually lead to a dangerous one party system , which certainly undermines our ideology of a
Democracy. On average 70% of votes are also wasted during a single election. We find that 100.0% of
votes are accounted for, only 40.7% actually counted, therefore, votes a drastically wasted.

Inherited Genetic Variations
Inherited genetic variations may result from new genetic combinations through meiosis,
nondisjunction errors occurring during cell division and through mutations in the DNA of egg and
sperm cells.
Meiosis is a cell division that results in four daughter cells. The daughter cells have half the number of
chromosomes of the parent cells. In meiosis the Law of Independent Assortment states that the alleles
of one gene sort in gametes independently of the alleles of another gene. Meiosis increases inherited
genetic variation because during meiosis, homologous chromosomes each from one pair of parents.
The parents chromosomes cross over and and trade some genes when they break apart. This

Car Roll Over Collision Report
Friday, August 19, 2016 at 20:40 I was dispatched to a call of a one car roll over collision. The
collision was near Cook Ave on Elmira St. JeffCom said that the three occupants had self extracted
and were not injured. I arrived on scene and found the road blocked by a rolled over vehicle blue in
color. The vehicle had the roof crushed on the driver s side all the way to the bottom of the window,
and the roadway was littered with things from the car s interior. I contacted the two males first and the
shorter of the two had visible injuries to his face and left arm. He was identified as Kale A.
GONZALEZ. The male next to him was identified MARTIN, Travis B. of Port Townsend. He said the
car belonged to him. The female was identified as Kiera ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was also a plastic five gallon gas can in the vehicle. I mention this because the driver put
himself and the passenger s lives in extreme danger of being seriously injured or killed by the glass,
and gasoline. The danger of an explosion from the gasoline in a confined space I requested a AAA tow
at the owners request, and gave the AAA number as requested by JeffCom. Officer Dumond took
pictures of the scene, and notified the father (Matthew J. Sholty 1 22 1980) of Sholty that she had been
in an accident and was going home with an adult friend. The Port Townsend City Street Department
had to send the on call operator to the scene and then required a front loader to remove the car and roll
it over as well as to cut the tree up and remove it from the road way. The driver of the vehicle was not
able to show me proof of insurance, and the passenger Travis (who owned the car) said he did not
have proof of insurance for the car. In fact he said he had not even registered or transferred the title of
the car yet (he said he has owned it for two

The Long Walk Home By Forrest Gump
Compare and Contrast Now a days for some people to learn and completely understand history they
can watch movies and documentaries on whichever subject they need help with or on. Over the past
few weeks I have watched the following movies: Forrest Gump, The Long Walk Home, The Help, and
A League of Their Own. Forrest Gump is about a disabled boy who grows up and goes into the
Vietnam War and eventually owns a shrimp company. The Long Walk Home and The Help are movies
based off of equality of race by exemplifying for the viewers what life was like for colored people.
The Help specifically is about a lady who became interested in sharing the stories of maids. The Long
Walk Home is specifically about colored people fighting for their rights and to be treated equally and
fairly. A League of their Own is about women across the United States playing baseball while still
being treated like a lady. All the movies have similarities and differences. While taking notes I
compared and contrasted the movies by focusing on the government and lifestyle during the movies.
Government: The government and government issues in the movies is rather similar. To start off, In
Forrest Gump a quote that Forrest s mom states and in my opinion is like the government itself, Life is
like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get. The war the United States is in is
the Vietnam War where platoons were taken out in the blink of an eye. Vietnam would have Jets

St. Basil s Cathedral Essay
Knudsen 1 St. Basil s Cathedral As legend has it, the builders of St. Basil s Cathedral were blinded by
the command of Ivan the Terrible, so they could never create a building greater. There is still the
question if St. Basil s is actually the most beautiful cathedral made in its time. Comparing it to the
beautiful Pisa Cathedral and Assumption Cathedral, which were made around the same time, one
could find it hard to decide which is the most artistic. Looking at the materials, art, and icons of
cathedrals are ways to gauge how beautiful the building is. St. Basil s Cathedral was the most
beautiful cathedral made in its time. Some words that would be helpful to know as these churches are

Assumption Cathedral is famous for its murals. The walls are painted in extremely fine detail, and on
the top of the walls there are images of God. On the middle of the Knudsen 4 walls, there are paintings
of the Life of the Virgin. On the bottom of the walls there are images of the seven ecumenical

Vladimir, but later on the icon was moved to St. Basil s Cathedral so it wouldn t be stolen because it

The Case Of Arizona Vs. United States
Brief for Respondent: In the case, Arizona versus United States, I am representing the respondent,
United States, where we are seeking to stop the enforcement of S.B. 1070 in the federal district court
before the law can be taken into effect. S.B. 1070, also known as Support Our Law Enforcement and
Safe Neighborhoods Act, was passed in the state of Arizona in 2010 as an effort to address the large
numbers of unlawful immigrants entering the state. The United States seeks to declare S.B. 1070 as
preempted by the federal immigration law, where the four provisions of S.B. 1070, Section 3, Section
5, Section 6 and Section 2(B) violated the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution.
Relevant Constitutional Provision: In our defense, we will be utilizing Article 1, Section 8, clause 4 of
the United States Constitution which establishes a uniform rule of Naturalization. It states that only
Congress has the exclusive authority control over immigration and establishing new regulations that
would allow individuals to become naturalized citizens of the United States of America and not the
states. Section 9, clause 2 will also come into play in relation to Section 6 of S.B. 1070, in which the
privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus cannot not be suspended. It solidifies the notion that an
individual cannot be incarcerated without facing legitimate charges indefinite imprisonment is not
allowed without legal due process.

Role of Nature and Nurture in Language Development
How do both nature and nurture interact in the promotion of language development in young children?
The debate between many researchers is the argument of whether nature or nurture play a more
important role in development. In this essay I will be looking into both aspects of nature and nurture
focusing specifically on their influence towards language development in children. A main
controversial question I will be looking into is the question of whether are we born already equipped
with mechanisms which help us to learn language, or is language learned throughout a child s
environment by, for example, imitation and repetition? Studies done by some opposing researchers
claim to show that nature and nurture promote language development ... Show more content on

Although Jim did learn speech it became noticeably odd to others around him as he had developed his
own, unique grammatical characteristics and his poor articulation meant he didn t acquire normal
language skills (Sachs et al 1981). Bruner suggests that this was due to lack of social interaction in his
learning of speech, which again highlights the importance of nurture in promoting a child s language
development.
However, it can be argued with (Bruner 1964) that social interaction doesn t explain all the
complexities of language acquisition. Almost every day the language we hear is often incorrect, poorly
defined, incomplete and full of hesitations, mispronunciations and other errors, and yet despite this we
still learn to talk following the correct grammatical rules. Again this indicates the idea of Chomsky s
(1968) LAD model that children are born hard wired with the innate knowledge of linguistic rules and
so these rules help the baby make estimations and presumptions about the language it is hearing. From
these estimations and presumption the child can work out grammatical sets of rules and when more
language is exposed to them, the more their language develops. Even within Chomsky s (1968) LAD
theory, undoubtedly he believed the role and promotion of the nature aspect is the core foundation on
which language can develop. But his theory also requires the role of nurture

Looking at Skyy s Vodka Advetisement
When looking at Skyy s vodka advertisement, they had encoded many types of meanings in their
advertisement to appeal customers into buying their products. You first see a woman dressed up all in
black holding a martini shaker while a man is sitting in a round chair holding a martini glass. You can
only see the man s hand and legs which creates a mysterious look with the combination of the setting
being night time. The second thing you would see is the actual product in the corner of the ad because
of the contrast of the dark bottle and the white table and chair. The white man sitting in the big round
chair without his face reduces the attention of him which brings more attention towards the woman.
The man without the face could represent that you could be the person who is sitting there and be
treated like a king by the women serving you vodka in a seductive way. This would bring attention to
male customers who are looking at the ad and they can decode the message of buying this vodka
would get you a sexy woman serving you in a luxurious suite alone. The attractive woman is the core
concept to appeal to customers by the placement and size being almost the whole print ad. The
lighting towards the women enhances the woman s curves, breasts and a smooth silky skin. The
position of the woman shows a seductive approach to the man by how she is very close holding a
margarita shaker even though his martini glass is full. The position of the woman with the woman s

Essay on Gender in The Crime Drama Fiction Genre
According to John Fiske, Television as a culture is a crucial part of the social dynamics. Indeed any
television genre is based on apparent similarities, differences and on expectations as well as
assumptions shared by the viewers. It is also a cross cultural translatability as it is understood in a
diversity of contexts and markets. According to Graeme Burton (2000), the genre study leads to
understanding of audience pleasures and revelation of cultural myths. Also an understanding of
finance and marketing within television and finally an understanding of intertextuality and
postmodernist forms of television. However audiences are aware of the codes and conventions that

Charlieʼs Angels was according to Anna Gough Yates (2001) a representation of femininity to the

the series were private detectives called Jill Munroe, Sabrina Duncan and Kelly Garrett. They all

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electronic Survey
In this part I will go through the questionnaire layout and construction. Then I will define the
electronic survey and its advantages and disadvantages.
In fact, there is no strong theoretical base for questionnaire design. All researchers have their own way
born out from their experience and other previous researchers experience. Moreover, Questionnaire
design is more of an art than science (Oberski, 2015, p. 1).
The questionnaire is defined as a document containing serious of questions and other types of items
designed to solicit information appropriate to analysis (Babbie, 1990, p. 377). In our daily work we
used the questionnaire as a tool for collecting information to justify and explain cases, knowledge, and
behaviors on target group. Questionnaire design is very crucial and important part of the research
because inappropriate questionnaire will misleads the research result. Indeed, we used questionnaire in
our daily life to satisfy our queries in in another format. For example, we ask questions in different
events like when we want to pay something. The use of questionnaire in research is somehow similar
to that in our daily life. It constructed to collect information or answers related to the research issue for

The Defining Decade
The Defining Decade was one of the most unique and informative books I have ever read. Using this
book in relation to my life, I have gained a lot of acumen on how there are a lot of advantages in your
twenties and if you do not take advantage of them now, there will be consequences in the future. One
point that made a lasting impression on me was the topic on weak ties. Meg Jay says, Weak ties feel
too different or in some cases, literally too far away to be close friends. But thats the point. Because
they re not just figures in an already ingrown cluster, weak ties gives us access to something fresh.
They know things and people that we don t know. (21) This is a very accurate statement because
networking leads to opportunities that cannot be seen unless you act and take advantage of it. Perhaps
the single best thing we can do to make our own luck in our twenties is to say yes to our weak ties or
give them a reason to say yes to us. (31) Most people stay in their ... Show more content on

The Impact Of Contemporary Uk On New Zealand Essay
The increase in globalization has enabled a plethora of means in which organizations can access more
talent and new technology that have become available. Due to this phenomenon, businesses have
required to become more creative and embrace change as an essential method of staying competitive
in their marketplace. The increase in ethnic group migration to New Zealand and the concept of
managing this diverse range of culture and interacting with individuals with different cultures, belief
systems is a current issue that impacts contemporary organisations in New Zealand. According to
Sayers (2012), countries throughout history have different yet related ways to deal with inequality and
discrimination issues that occur through diverse people existing in close proximity. From social
movements focusing on womens rights, civil rights, anti slavery and indigenous rights, to modern
diversity such as disability activism and managing diversity in the workplace, it is apparent that this
issue of managing diversity is an ongoing encounter. Looking at the 2013 Census published by
Statistics New Zealand (2013), we can see a substantial increase in ethnic groups in New Zealand
since the 2006 Census. There is a 14% increase in European ethnicities, 6% increase in Maori, 11%
increase in Pacific peoples, 33% increase in Asians, and 35% increase in Middle Eastern, Latin
American, and African ethnicities since 2006. Sayers (2012) states that demographic change is the

The Rosetta Mission
Billions of years ago, a comet roughly 15 kilometers in size collided with the Earth. The collision
resulted in the extinction of ninety percent of the species on earth, including the dinosaurs. For many
years scientist have been working to solve the age old question, how did life originate on Earth? Many
have come up with hypotheses ranging from evolution to extraterrestrial beings. However new
evidence has come into light that the same comet that destroyed the dinosaurs could have been the
starting point for our creation. In September, Dr. Haruna Sugahara and Dr. Koichi Mimura presented
their findings at the Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference, held in Prague. They had performed a
number of experiments, where they tried to recreate the conditions of the Earth after impact with the
comet. To do this they used a mixture of chemicals containing water, silicate, and amino acids. They
then shot the frozen mixture out of a gun and observed the fall out. When they were observing the
aftermath, they noticed that some of the amino acids has bonded and formed peptides. Peptides are

The Tories Research Paper
The Tories were compiled disgruntled young Irishmen whose ancient hatred for the English coupled
with the spectacle of defeat, despair and degradation was sufficient reason to continue resistance .
They were led by dispossessed noblemen and Irish officers. They mostly attacked livestock but were
not against killing an Englishman once in a while. The English s punishment for Tories was strict and
after a band of Tories killed two Protestants in Lackagh, 4 Irishmen were hanged for not preventing
the murder and others, including 2 priests and an 80 year old woman were sent to Barbados. Since the
Irish usually just took livestock though, the English would just tax the town closest to where the
livestock was taken. Frequently, the town could not pay this and this would cause the government to
tax the surrounding areas. This in turn would cause many more men to become Tories due the
economic strife being inflicted on them by the English. It got so bad in some areas that Catholic

Fig. 3.1 Fingerprint scanning
Minutia points represent positions where friction ridges end abruptly or where a ridge branches into
two or many more ridges. A typical good quality fingerprint template contains 20 70 minutiae points;
the actual number depends on the size of the finger sensor surface and how the user places his or her
finger on the sensor. The system stores the minutiae information position and direction along with the
user s demographic information as a template in the enrollment database. During the identification
phase, the user puts the finger on the same sensor, generating a new fingerprint image or template
called query print. Minutiae points are carried out from the query print, and the matcher module
compares the set of query minutia with the stored minutia templates or image in the enrollment
database to find the number of similar minutia points. Because of variations present in finger
placement and pressure applied to the sensor, the minutia points take out from the template and query
fingerprints must be lined up, or submitted before matching. After line up the fingerprints, the matcher

Examples Of Pride In The Iliad
In his telling of The Iliad, Homer introduces us to one of the demigods, Akhilleus. Akhilleus was born
by the goddess, Thetis, daughter to Poseidon and to the human, Peleus. His position is as commander
of the entire Greek army. At the start of this war, between the Akhaians and the Trojians, there was a
falling out between him and the Greek king, Agamemnon. In short, he ended up packing his bags and
leaving the army without a commander. Pride was the cause of this whole quarrel. This pride of his
was the center of many improprieties during the war. A feeling that you respect yourself and deserve
to be respected by other people (definition of pride) This first example may have occurred near the
end of the book, but it is going to be used first. Akhilleus pride was the direct cause for the need to
withhold and torture Hektor s body after he killed him. (The Iliad, 22.410 421, 24.14 27) This event
caused him to act inhumanely, no matter the reason. This action also prevented Hektor s family from
having a proper funeral. Said Akhilleus: Let it be so. Let someone bring the ransom and the dead
away, if the Olympian commands this in his wisdom. (24.63 66) Later he allowed Hektor s body to be

(1.174 199) Akhilleus left all because he felt that he was too important to be cheated of his prizes.
Frankly, he should have just sucked it up and kept going, besides he was technically AWOL. (absent
without leave) However, in his defense, Agamemnon should have just done what the priest requested.
Unfortunately, Akhilleus misses an opportunity to fix his mistake, when Agamemnon sent an offer of

RFID at the METRO Group
In early 2004, the METRO Group (Metro), Germany s biggest retailer, announced its upcoming radio
frequency identification (RFID) technology rollout at 250 stores and 10 warehouses, in collaboration
with 100 suppliers. The news echoed throughout the retailing community. Previous similar
announcements by Wal Mart and Tesco had made it clear that some in the industry believed that the
new technology had the potential to improve the performance of retail supply chains significantly.
Among the many potential benefits of this technology were reduced shrink,1 increased product
availability, better data quality, and higher labor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1939, the British Royal Air Force developed an identify friend or foe transponder that could
interpret received radar signals to distinguish friendly aircraft. This was the first example of a device
that could automatically and remotely identify itself to another device. RFID worked on the same
basic principle: A signal was sent to a transponder which either reflected back a signal (passive
system) or broadcast a signal (active system). Research and development in radar and radio frequency
communication systems continued through the 1950s and 1960s. In 1973, an American entrepreneur
was awarded a patent for a passive transponder used to unlock a door without a key. When a card with
an embedded transponder communicated a signal to a reader near the door, the reader detected a valid
identity number stored within the RFID tag and unlocked the door. A similar idea, an automated toll
payment system, was commercialized in the mid 1980s. By 2005, the use of RFID had expanded.
Many companies used RFID tags in employee badges. Several prisons in the United States used RFID
tags to track prisoners. In 2004, Boston Marathon participants shoe laces contained RFID tags to track
and accurately time the runners and to share their progress with spectators. The American Express
Blue credit card started including a feature called ExpressPay that

How To Write An Essay On The Sorcerers Of The Nightwing
Recently I read this book called Sorcerers of the Nightwing by Geoffrey Huntington, it is a great book
by the way. In the beginning, you will meet a young boy named Devon, who is attacked by a demon as
a young boy. Fast forwarding a few years later Devon s father gets very sick, he dies, but tells Devon
that he is adopted. Soon after he is sent to a place called Misery Point, where he meets Amanda and
Cecily Crandall, and Alexander Muir. He lives with them at Ravenscliff, a very creepy house on top a
hill in Misery Point. Later Devon faces a demon that appeared out of his closet, he remembers his
father s words from when he was young, that he is stronger than any of them. He defeats the demon in
without fear, and questions why it was there. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately for Devon, it s not that simple.Around a quarter way through the book, with D.J.,
Marcus, Cecily, and Natalie; Devon went to Gio s, a local pizza place. Being as the chapter is called
The Boy With the Talons for Hands, you could guess it s probably not a human boy. After conversing
with the group about how they all came to be friends, and then they suddenly heard a noise and
commotion coming from outside of the parlor. D.J. attempts to break up the fight when Devon realizes
that it is no kid that is in that fight. Though the kid had brandish hair, a small frame, jeans, and Nike
sneakers; something was off about him... Maybe it was the talons that he was pummeling the other kid
with. Then after telling the demon to go back to hell, punched the demon straight in the face, sending
the demon flying out of the door. Devon was praised for his bravery and stares of awe from the crowd
around them, even D.J. asking How d you get to be so strong? in an awestruck way. Despite not being
able to avoid the demon, he did save someone from being seriously hurt; thus avoiding more pain than
needed, which probably was more of a demon for him. Surprisingly enough, all he had to do was
punch the thing in the face and BAM! The demon s out the

Amt Case Analysis Essay
1. What has created the need for additional finance by AMT since 1983? The need for additional
financing is a result of multiple factors that placed intense pressure on available cash. The first factor
is the extraordinary growth AMT has experienced the last few years with an annual sales growth rate
of 52.88%. The extreme growth rate in sales was accompanied with heavy spending on research and
development along with rapid expansion in the company s sales force and other marketing
expenditures. What made matters worse is the company has incurred operating losses, which meant
that generating cash from operations was at best limited or insufficient. The second major factor is the
inefficient use or mismanagement of some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accounts Payable Days and Accrued Expenses also play a critical role. Days Payable is set at 50 while
Accrued Expenses is assumed to be 5% of Sales. Cash as a percent of sales is set at 7.5%. Going
forward, and assuming 7.5% ratio, which is very similar to the industry upper quartile in 1985, cash
balances at AMT will remains solid going forward. Note that the industry s cash to sales ratio is not
given directly but can be deducted by taking the Cash to Assets ratio of 16.3% (1985) and Assets to
Sales ratio of 45.3% (Upper Quartile in 1985). Reshuffling these figures yields the industry s Cash to
Sales of 7.4%. All these assumptions about net working capital result in tremendous need for external
financing over the next several years as mentioned earlier. Annual Sales growth is expected to be at
high rate 30% over the next 5 years, which puts tremendous pressure on cash. Poor management of
working capital will unnecessarily tie up cash, thus requiring external financing from banks such as
Western National Bank. Looking at cash to sales ratio, the historical trend for AMT is very much
disturbing with the last two years having negative cash balances. With the 7.5% ratio of cash to net
sales, cash balances, when managed efficiently, will remain at healthy levels over the next 5 years.
The above discussion shows that high growth in sales, which is typically accompanied with high
growth in working capital exerts tremendous

The Subway Story
The subway story Introduction of Subway restaurant The Subway story started when Fred DeLuca, its
cofounder and his family friend Dr. Peter Buck, worked on a business plan for a submarine sandwich
shop. Dr. Buck gave a loan of $1000 for implementation of this plan. The first restaurant was opened
in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1965. It did well in its first summer with the help of advertising slogans
like put a foot in your mouth. Emphasizing the foot long sandwich, and when you re hungry, make
tracks for Subway. Buck suggested opening a second restaurant. That way people will see us
expanding and think that we re successful. DeLuca has changed the company s system of franchise
development several times over the years and has kept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Alon, L. (2006, p.47 48), due to religious prohibition to eat pork in case of Muslims and
to eat beef in Hindus in India, no pork or beef products are used in any of the sandwiches. Instead
these were substituted with lamb, chicken and turkey. Counter area and preparation areas in India are
separated because vegetarians do not like to be served from the same place that non vegetarian food
are prepared. Technological: new innovations and development, technological transfer, obsolescence.
Subway is using Partech POS (point of sale) System. Competitive analysis According to McCarty, M.
(2006), Subway is also facing competitive pressures. Main competitors are McDonalds, KFC, and
Pizza Hut. McDonald s is the world s largest retailing chain with 31,000 fast food restaurants in 119
countries.(FAQ, 13), All fast food chains, including McDonald s®, Burger King®, Wendy s®, Taco
Bell®, KFC®, Quiznos Sub®, Blimpie® and Arby s® are the SUBWAY® chain s competitors. This
chart has been made with the help of data available on http://www.subway.com/StudentGuide/ (How
we compare to our competitors, 2006) Franchisee fee of Subway is less in comparison to other
restaurants. Start up cost of Subway is also less comparison to other restaurants. But the basic royalty
of Wandy s is less as compare to Subway. Advertising royalty of Taco bell, Pizza hut, and Scholtzky s

Then came offensive, defensive, and neoclassical realism. In his journey of figuring out his flaw, Sir Gawain encounters a Green Knight that holds a holly and axe in his hands. On a Christmas dinner, the Green knight rides into King Arthur s hall proposing a game. Any knight willing to cut off the his head is able to keep the axe, but only if he agrees to let the Green Knight return the blow at a later time. The Green knight was described as one who was plantlike and had a giant body structure, leading to the assumption that he was a certain type of vegetation god. The knight also held a holly in one hand and an axe in another, possibly representing the necessity of plants to die in the cooler climates in order for them to grow again when it summer returns. The Green Knight, playing an important role for plant life and crops, is still a mysterious character. His odd characteristics with his supernatural powers make it evident that the Green Knight has some connection with crops and vegetation. The Green Knight s physical features are clearly described in the story. He was described to have green skin and a huge build: greater than any on earth; from neck to loin so strong and thickly made, and with limbs so long and so great that he seemed even as a giant... The project was originally approved in 2014, but since the approval of the project oil prices have plunged more than 50% percent in 2015. Some of these themes include, people are defined by the choices they make, family is worth dying for, and survival depends on being dedicated to others, not yourself. The characters can teach us a lot by their experiences and Rick Yancey most likely did this on purpose. There are many examples in the text to support these recurring themes. To start with, we will examine the theme, people are defined by the choices they make. One of the greatest examples for supporting this theme in The 5th Wave, is the character, Evan Walker. He is half human and half alien. However, he abandons the aliens and chooses to be human. In this case, being human just means siding with them, especially since there are few left. Evan made choices to be human many times. In the first place, he didn t kill Cassie on the highway. He describes it like he couldn t. Therefore, he showed feelings of guilt, love, pity, and other human emotions. This was his initial act of starting to side with mankind. • 21. UK s Main Electoral System and Should It Be Reformed Essay... UK s Main Electoral System and Should It Be Reformed Over the years Britain s pluralist electoral system has been scrutinised by many political and pressure groups, such as the Liberal Democrats and the Electoral Reform Society. In their 1997 Manifesto, the Labour Party did state that they would look into the matter, by holding a referendum on the issue, however there was no change as Labour had a large majority in 1997 and Labour has preformed disappointingly in elections where Proportional Representation had been used. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The system is also disproportionate, an example of this is can be shown in a study of the 2001 General Election. From the 2001 General Election results, we can deliberately see that through our pluralist electoral system, the system is disproportionate. We can see many examples of this]. The percentage of votes to the percentage of seats is unequal, showing how its seats not votes that count, and judging by labour s landslide victory. In fact, we can see that Labour did not even gain a majority from voters but only from seats. Another example is the Liberal Democrats; they received 18.3% of the electorate s votes, but only received less than half the percentage of seats at 7.9%. Labour also received a mere 9% more votes than the Conservatives, but yet still managed to acquire around 247 more seats. This also shows that some parties, especially Labour in the 2001 elections, are over represented and this can lead eventually lead to a dangerous one party system , which certainly undermines our ideology of a Democracy. On average 70% of votes are also wasted during a single election. We find that 100.0% of votes are accounted for, only 40.7% actually counted, therefore, votes a drastically wasted. The Long Walk Home By Forrest Gump Compare and Contrast Now a days for some people to learn and completely understand history they can watch movies and documentaries on whichever subject they need help with or on. Over the past few weeks I have watched the following movies: Forrest Gump, The Long Walk Home, The Help, and A League of Their Own. Forrest Gump is about a disabled boy who grows up and goes into the Vietnam War and eventually owns a shrimp company. The Long Walk Home and The Help are movies based off of equality of race by exemplifying for the viewers what life was like for colored people. The Help specifically is about a lady who became interested in sharing the stories of maids. The Long Walk Home is specifically about colored people fighting for their rights and to be treated equally and fairly. A League of their Own is about women across the United States playing baseball while still being treated like a lady. All the movies have similarities and differences. While taking notes I compared and contrasted the movies by focusing on the government and lifestyle during the movies. Government: The government and government issues in the movies is rather similar. To start off, In Forrest Gump a quote that Forrest s mom states and in my opinion is like the government itself, Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get. S.B. 1070, also known as Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, was passed in the state of Arizona in 2010 as an effort to address the large numbers of unlawful immigrants entering the state. The debate between many researchers is the argument of whether nature or nurture play a more important role in development. In this essay I will be looking into both aspects of nature and nurture focusing specifically on their influence towards language development in children. A main controversial question I will be looking into is the question of whether are we born already equipped with mechanisms which help us to learn language, or is language learned throughout a child s environment by, for example, imitation and repetition? Studies done by some opposing researchers claim to show that nature and nurture promote language development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Jim did learn speech it became noticeably odd to others around him as he had developed his own, unique grammatical characteristics and his poor articulation meant he didn t acquire normal language skills (Sachs et al 1981). Bruner suggests that this was due to lack of social interaction in his learning of speech, which again highlights the importance of nurture in promoting a child s language development. However, it can be argued with (Bruner 1964) that social interaction doesn t explain all the complexities of language acquisition. Almost every day the language we hear is often incorrect, poorly defined, incomplete and full of hesitations, mispronunciations and other errors, and yet despite this we still learn to talk following the correct grammatical rules. Again this indicates the idea of Chomsky s (1968) LAD model that children are born hard wired with the innate knowledge of linguistic rules and so these rules help the baby make estimations and presumptions about the language it is hearing. From these estimations and presumption the child can work out grammatical sets of rules and when more language is exposed to them, the more their language develops. Even within Chomsky s (1968) LAD theory, undoubtedly he believed the role and promotion of the nature aspect is the core foundation on which language can develop. Akhilleus was born by the goddess, Thetis, daughter to Poseidon and to the human, Peleus. His position is as commander of the entire Greek army. At the start of this war, between the Akhaians and the Trojians, there was a falling out between him and the Greek king, Agamemnon. In short, he ended up packing his bags and leaving the army without a commander. Pride was the cause of this whole quarrel. This pride of his was the center of many improprieties during the war. A feeling that you respect yourself and deserve to be respected by other people (definition of pride) This first example may have occurred near the end of the book, but it is going to be used first. Akhilleus pride was the direct cause for the need to withhold and torture Hektor s body after he killed him. In 1939, the British Royal Air Force developed an identify friend or foe transponder that could interpret received radar signals to distinguish friendly aircraft. This was the first example of a device that could automatically and remotely identify itself to another device. RFID worked on the same basic principle: A signal was sent to a transponder which either reflected back a signal (passive system) or broadcast a signal (active system). Research and development in radar and radio frequency communication systems continued through the 1950s and 1960s. In 1973, an American entrepreneur was awarded a patent for a passive transponder used to unlock a door without a key. When a card with an embedded transponder communicated a signal to a reader near the door, the reader detected a valid identity number stored within the RFID tag and unlocked the door. A similar idea, an automated toll payment system, was commercialized in the mid 1980s. By 2005, the use of RFID had expanded. Many companies used RFID tags in employee badges. Several prisons in the United States used RFID tags to track prisoners. In 2004, Boston Marathon participants shoe laces contained RFID tags to track and accurately time the runners and to share their progress with spectators. The American Express Blue credit card started including a feature called ExpressPay that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately for Devon, it s not that simple.Around a quarter way through the book, with D.J., Marcus, Cecily, and Natalie; Devon went to Gio s, a local pizza place. Being as the chapter is called The Boy With the Talons for Hands, you could guess it s probably not a human boy. After conversing with the group about how they all came to be friends, and then they suddenly heard a noise and commotion coming from outside of the parlor. D.J. attempts to break up the fight when Devon realizes that it is no kid that is in that fight. Though the kid had brandish hair, a small frame, jeans, and Nike sneakers; something was off about him... Maybe it was the talons that he was pummeling the other kid with. Then after telling the demon to go back to hell, punched the demon straight in the face, sending the demon flying out of the door. Devon was praised for his bravery and stares of awe from the crowd around them, even D.J. asking How d you get to be so strong? in an awestruck way. Despite not being able to avoid the demon, he did save someone from being seriously hurt; thus avoiding more pain than needed, which probably was more of a demon for him. Surprisingly enough, all he had to do was punch the thing in the face and BAM! The demon s out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Amt Case Analysis Essay 1. What has created the need for additional finance by AMT since 1983? The need for additional financing is a result of multiple factors that placed intense pressure on available cash. The first factor is the extraordinary growth AMT has experienced the last few years with an annual sales growth rate of 52.88%. The extreme growth rate in sales was accompanied with heavy spending on research and development along with rapid expansion in the company s sales force and other marketing expenditures. What made matters worse is the company has incurred operating losses, which meant that generating cash from operations was at best limited or insufficient. The second major factor is the inefficient use or mismanagement of some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accounts Payable Days and Accrued Expenses also play a critical role. Days Payable is set at 50 while Accrued Expenses is assumed to be 5% of Sales. Cash as a percent of sales is set at 7.5%. Going forward, and assuming 7.5% ratio, which is very similar to the industry upper quartile in 1985, cash balances at AMT will remains solid going forward. Note that the industry s cash to sales ratio is not given directly but can be deducted by taking the Cash to Assets ratio of 16.3% (1985) and Assets to Sales ratio of 45.3% (Upper Quartile in 1985). Reshuffling these figures yields the industry s Cash to Sales of 7.4%. All these assumptions about net working capital result in tremendous need for external financing over the next several years as mentioned earlier. Annual Sales growth is expected to be at high rate 30% over the next 5 years, which puts tremendous pressure on cash. Poor management of working capital will unnecessarily tie up cash, thus requiring external financing from banks such as Western National Bank. Looking at cash to sales ratio, the historical trend for AMT is very much disturbing with the last two years having negative cash balances. With the 7.5% ratio of cash to net sales, cash balances, when managed efficiently, will remain at healthy levels over the next 5 years. The above discussion shows that high growth in sales, which is typically accompanied with high growth in working capital exerts tremendous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Subway Story The subway story Introduction of Subway restaurant The Subway story started when Fred DeLuca, its cofounder and his family friend Dr. Peter Buck, worked on a business plan for a submarine sandwich shop. Dr. Buck gave a loan of $1000 for implementation of this plan. The first restaurant was opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1965. It did well in its first summer with the help of advertising slogans like put a foot in your mouth. Emphasizing the foot long sandwich, and when you re hungry, make tracks for Subway.
