R v. Dudley and Stephens
In the case R v. Dudley and Stephens, the two sailors should not have been found guilty or charged
with murder. I will examine the case with two theories of punishment, retributivism and
consequentialism. I am using these two different frameworks because they both have two different
requirements in order to justify punishment. Retributivism requires agents to be morally responsible,
while consequentialism requires an agent to be rational. It is important to distinguish how the same
action can be found guilty or non guilty depending on the framework of punishment being used.
Dudley and Stephens should be found guilty under a retributive framework of punishment, but be
found innocent under a consequentialist one. However, my conclusion that both Dudley and Stephens
should be exempt from criminal prosecution comes from looking at a combination of retributivism
and consequentialism that Duff calls Side Constrained Consequentialism. Side Constrained
Consequentialism is a combination of positive retributivism and consequentialism. Side Constrained
Consequentialism requires an agent to not only be a rational agent, but a moral one as well. I will
begin by defining my terms and laying out the necessary details of the case. I will then review the case
under the frameworks of consequentialism, retributivism, and Side Constrained Consequentialism.
There are three main terms I will be referencing in this paper. The first is consequentialism.
Consequentialism is, at heart, a framework

Reflection Of Group Development
To begin, the very first part of group development but also the class, was to form a group that you
would work with throughout the whole semester. The class discussed ways to assign group members,
but ultimately, the decision was to let students pick their groups. In all honesty, I was not fond of this
idea, but I selected my group. I began by wanting one of the two boys in my group, because I wanted
a male s perspective throughout the project. I decided I wanted to work with Adam because I had
witnessed him ask challenging questions and succeed in debates with previous professors, all
characteristics I thought could be beneficial at the time. With choosing Adam came Matt, because
since they were the only two males in a lecture dominated by females. Lastly, Alex decided she
wanted to work with me because we had a previous class together and she stated she liked the way I
handled myself within that lecture. Once the group was all in agreeance to work together, we began to
take part in small talk, such as, how old we were, what we were studying, but mainly that we were all
determined to get a high grade in this class, a comment I had taken seriously at the time and thought
was true of all members. When the class was eventually instructed to discuss topics that were of
importance to us, there was no doubt that focusing on nontraditional students and their connection to
campus life was going to be the topic we focused on because it was of such importance to ¾ of our
group.

Benefits Of Secondary School Teacher
Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world, Nelson Mandela. Secondary
school teachers can essentially make or break the next generation of America. What students are
taught in school can heavily affect how their future turns out to be. Secondary school teachers are
some of the people that are heavily credited for many famous celebrities or athletes successes for the
education they gave them. NBC News anchor Brian Williams is an example of someone who has
given his secondary school teachers some form of acknowledgement for his success. Secondary
school teachers are an important part of a person s life in their spiritual, mental, and moral growth in
life, and are some of the people who help shape young mind s to do whatever they put their minds to.
A skilled worker, regardless of the job description, remains a treasure, Madeleine M. Kunin. Over one
million secondary school teachers currently hold jobs in the United States. Secondary school teachers
typically teach students in grades ranging from seventh to high school senior, primarily in English,
arithmetic, and science fields ( Secondary School Teachers 490), and each day they teach three to six
classes of varying sizes. Secondary school teachers have a lot more benefits to their job than what it
appears to be. A good majority of them are spiritual or mental benefits, but some benefits are physical
or monetary. Some secondary school teachers direct extracurricular activities, and

For our Introduction to Business class, we had to interview a business person. I decided to interview
my uncle, William Kurtz based on his background, and the fact that he lives in the area. The purpose
of the interview was not only to get information to write this paper, but to learn about a job in the
business field, and how it has been affected by the changing economy.
He graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a financial emphasis from the University
of Wisconsin Superior. He also has 19 years of experience in product management and business

Realism And The Remystification Of Narrative By Wendy B....
Magical realism is a form of literary expression traditionally associated with Latin American literature
and characterized by a merging of fantastical or mythical elements with realistic fiction, so that it
presents a reality in which the mundane is lent a dimension of magic and the unusual is normalized.
Even this definition of magical realism proves slippery. Whether it can be attributed to literature as a
genre or a series of stylistic choices and trademark inclusions has been a great source of debate.
Ultimately, while a strict definition of what magical realism really is continues to be elusive, it does
have a set of identifiable qualities. In her book, Ordinary Enchantments: Magical Realism and the
Remystification of Narrative, writer Wendy B. Faris breaks down the tropes of magical realism into
five parts:
First, the text contains an irreducible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These elements are what create the effect of the mythical without the story being an outright fantasy.
Many literary scholars are of the belief that magical realism rose to popularity in Latin America as a
response to postcolonialism[1]. Postcolonial literature is comprised of the literary canon that addresses
the problems and consequences of decolonization through the lens of a colonizer/colonized
experience. As former colonies, including those of Latin America, gained independence from
European powers, it became necessary for the citizens of these territories to examine both their culture
and their relation to the world.
The era of colonialism under the European empire was one of oppression and stealth. The colonization
of Latin American occurred between the 16th and 18th centuries, ending in the 19th century as nearly
all colonies gained independence between 1808 and

The Conflicts Between Seeing Nature As A Medium Of Art
Imagine hiking and standing upon a mountain top and just basking in the beauty of the scenery
around. Some people consider nature as the purest form of natural expression. Some artists consider
nature as a medium of art. But what is a medium of art? Art is expressed to be man made, a form of
human expression, a tale of beauty or tragedy. The world is a beautiful place filled with unique
creatures, beautiful scenery and an overwhelming sense of power and importance. But a medium is
considered as materials used to help express the viewpoint of the artist. In this evaluation argument
one will see the conflicts between seeing nature as a contributor to art. where if it can be used as a
material that inspires the artist, can be used to express emotion, and help support the point of view of
the art work. One would think that nature would have nothing to do with art. But it seems that art can
be found centered upon this idea. Nature is used in many different forms either to build a giant
building or to just exists and to be admired. In many cases trees and other natural elements are used as
art supplies. One can view the use of nature being used as a medium of art. Using the materials as a
source of expressing the viewpoint of the artists.
Some disapprove of this viewpoint, some people suggest that art is to conceptual to be related or
influenced by nature. Some people also state that nature is based of evolution and science not on the
concepts of feelings

Analysis Of The Statue Of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty was first thought of in 1865 by Professor Edouard de Laboulaye in France as a
monument of Americas newly founded freedom. It was mentioned at a dinner party where the
Sculptor of the statue Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was to design. This monument is over 100 years old,
stands at 305 feet, and has a total weight of 225 tons and as you can imagine the building of this
massive statue took many different materials, a lot of site planning, and over two decades to complete
it. Many materials were used in building the Statue of Liberty. These materials are concrete for the
base of the statue, Copper for the exterior of the statue, wrought iron for the bars that would hold the
copper in place, glass for the windows in the crown, and then steel for the inside skeletal framework.
In this statue there is 31 tons of copper, and 125 tons in the framework, because of this much work
went into determining what materials were going to be used to build the statue. The reasons they had
to put so much work into determining what materials they were going to use is because they came to
an agreement with America. America was building the base while the statue itself would be built in
France then shipped to America and assembled there. Since they came to this agreement the statue
would have to be shipped from France to America and if the statue was too heavy the boat would have
obviously sunk. So they thought of many materials they could use such as bronze and stone until they

Examples Of Sarcasm
Introduction:
Sarcasm is an example of non literal language use. It is one of the challenges that language expression
face in everyday situations. Humor and Sarcasm are one of the universal concepts. It is difficult to

where the social behavior , manner and sense are reflected. It is one of the human intellectual process.
Sarcasm usually express an implied meaning which is opposite to the literal meaning that uttered by

India survived near crisis situations twice in the 1990s. How did internal and external constraints
shape that country s ability to respond to the crises? This article argues that India s success can be
attributed to four sets of decisions taken during the period 1991 1997: devaluation, involvement of the
IMF, partial liberalization of the domestic financial sector, and gradual opening up of the external
sector. The article analyzes the options, political opposition, and eventual outcomes for each set of
decisions. India s ownership of its reform program helped set the pace of reform, while close

Significance Of Nelson Mandela
The focal point of this investigation assessment will be How significant was Nelson Mandela s role in
the culmination of Apartheid system in South Africa during 20th century? In order to evaluate
Mandela s significance, the investigation is based on his role in each stage of the consummation of
this segregator system by which the white minority in the country wanted to preserve the power, so
they established all kinds of laws that covered, in general, social aspects during the National Party
performance in 1948. Thus, the letters from Mandela to Hendrik Verwoerd regarded as the mastermind
behind socially engineering and implementing the racial policies of apartheid, and the Speech to the
Foreign Policy Association are sources of a peculiar importance to this investigation, due to the
evidence of struggle and resignation that Mandela feel as a leader. People forget how hard the struggle

The Power Of Religion By Chinua Achebe
The Power of Religion
A religion to some is the basic world views for a person, to some it is the basic behaviors and practices
and to others it is an order of existence. Throughout history, the world has witnessed a religions power
to guide a society, but many have also witnessed a religion destroy a society as well. Within the novel
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, the world witnesses many religions, for example the Ibo religion
and Christianity. We are able to get a delightful insight on their ways of functioning and beliefs. For
the durations of the book, we observe the destructive power of religion. Religion can absolutely
destroy a society and break it into pieces because religion creates fear within the people who follow it,
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fear does not allow people to do things they want and is against the basic fundaments of a healthy
society. In a healthy society, people would be free to go outside during night and kids would be free to
whistle. If these fears do not change, then the society will be destroyed because freedom is a basic
necessity for a health society. Continuing on, another example of fear being fabricated in the minds of
the people is during the appearance of the ancestral spirit, during the funeral of Ezeudu. The ancestral
spirits have a sickly odor hung in the air wherever he went, and flies went with him. Even the greatest
medicine men took shelter, when he was near. (122). The Ibo religion once again is able to fabricate
fear into the minds of its followers. The religion places a fear of ancestral spirits thus making the
society sacred of walking around during the appearance of spirits, which once again violates the
freedom of the people. If a religion is implementing fear within the society, it is slowly killing itself
because people deserve freedom. Fear leads to destruction. In addition, a religion can unquestionably
destroy a society due to class divisions. Osu s are the outcast of the Ibo religion. An osu [can] not
attend an assembly of the free born and they, in turn, [can] not shelter under his roof (156). With a

discovering herself along the way. At one point in her life, Janie marries Joe, an important leader for

The Ideas, Meanings, And Power Dynamics
The ideas, meanings, and power dynamics in the three books we read are very different, however
some similarities are present. As far as veiling, the meanings within each book are primarily
complimentary. When looking at the views on how certain affairs, such as veiling, should be enforced
and interacted with, we see more skewed ideas. In general, all three show hegemonic qualities, yet
Young and Defiant in Tehran reveals more dominating than hegemonic qualities. Veiling is an
extremely debated and controversial topic all over the world. From what has been revealed, it can be
presumed that a substantial difference of veiling across the board, is enforcement. From Veiled
Sentiments to Young and Defiant in Tehran, the differences in ideas regarding veiling are noticeably
contrasting. The three anthropology texts involved, include further inside information and feelings
regarding veiling. In Veiled Sentiments by Lila Abu Lughod, veiling is a choice and is not forced on
women. Due to the faith and freedom of choice, most women willingly and happily veil properly.
Although sexuality is not a popular norm among the Bedouin, it is not the sole reason for veiling.
Granted, women will be criticized and mocked for not veiling or taking part in sexual affiliations.
Such mockery is described in a story where grandmothers react to the granddaughters Western style
negligees. Once the grandmothers had found out about them, they put them on, initially embarrassing

Mcdonald s Pest Analysis Paper
The foundation of McDonald s, a well known brand name in fast food industry, dates back to 1940
when the McDonald brothers, Dick and Mac, opened a drive in restaurant in San Bernardino,
California. They came up with an idea of using an assembly line process to serve more customers in
the same amount of time. In 1948, that idea turned out to be a success as the potato chips were
replaced with the world famous French fries of McDonald s. The real person behind the company s
history, however, is Ray Kroc (picture) (Fast Food Restaurant 2015). Thanks to Kroc s open mind by

Why Is Jackie Kennedy Important
The Indestructible Lady Being a strong, well educated woman in the 1900s was a complex struggle,
between fighting inequality and facing local communities. Jackie Kennedy was a perfect symbol of
the essential First Lady in the American society. Her influential political attitude and actions as a civil
rights figure made dramatic changes in the American society. She fought for women s rights and she
showed the world how American women should be. Jackie Kennedy was a symbol of the First Lady.
She was married to the 35th President of the US, John F. Kennedy (JFKlibrary). She was smart and
she could speak French, Italian and Spanish (History). Because she could speak so many languages,
she could talk to the foreign leaders in their own languages. After her husband tragic death, she

civil rights and she accomplished so many things. Jackie loved reading and her love for reading helped
her to become an editor (Levo). Her educated and classy mind made everyone love her and appreciate
what she was doing. She had hard times in her life but she went through them and lived for sixty four

Ruining Vehicles
Detailing a vehicle can be overwhelming for some people, but really there are three easy steps: pre
clean, wash, and protect. The first step is the pre clean in this step you will rinse the outside of the
vehicle. You will also remove the big dirt from the interior along with any trash. The reason for rinsing
the outside of the vehicle is to remove the large dirt so that it does not scratch the paint. Dirt is like
sand paper to the paint it will remove the clear coat causing the car to look dull. Rinsing the vehicle
also keeps the soap from drying when you start the washing process. In the interior you should remove
all the bigger trash so that it s not in the way when you go to vacuum or shampoo the interior. It also

Essay Martha Stewart s Insider Trading
Martha Stewart s Insider Trading
Martha Stewart, the countries top icon for homemaking has been in the eye of the public since June
2002, but not for her craftiness or culinary abilities. Stewart instead has the spotlight on her for crimes
of insider trading. A tip from her former broker Peter E. Bacanovic, persuaded her into selling her
IMClone stock after sharing information about a close friend of Stewart s getting rid of his shares.
Stewart s companion, Sam Waksal, was also the chief executive of IMClone Systems Inc. IMClone

The question being debated in the business field is who is to blame in this scenario, and if it is
Stewart, should her punishments be so severe? Some seem to think that the charges and trails are
ridiculous. The Securities and Exchange Commission should leave people like Stewart alone and
concentrate on real corporate crooks. (Glassman). However others look at it as something that cannot
be tolerated and believe that if she is not punished to the maximum, then others will not be afraid to
follow in her footsteps. On the other hand there are many people that think that people who are high
up on the corporate chain should be prosecuted just as hardly if not harder then regular criminals
because of all their benefits from the government. As for the average high class citizen they believe
that Martha should be prosecuted because they think she is wrong and giving their class of people a
bad name, which black balls the whole brokerage industry as well as certain firms such as Merrill
lynch. Juror of the Stewart Trail, Chappell Hartridge, says Maybe it s a victory for the little guys who
lose money in the Market because of these kinds of transactions, Or maybe its just a sigh of relief to
the rest of the guys who are doing the wrong thing still and wanted to have someone else get caught in
the process and are just happy that it wasn t them. But not to play devils advocate but maybe its just

American History Retells World War II
American history retells World War II (WWII) stories about heroes, and their contribution to the
success in ending the conflict between Japan and the United States (U.S.). The U.S. Military s attempt
to seize key islands in the South Pacific seem futile as Japanese Imperial Intelligence Teams (JIIT)
monitored U.S. communications systems. Messages intercepted by the JITT compromised U.S.
Military synchronization activities, putting their efforts and the lives of American Soldier s at risk. The
Navajo Code Talker program is the U.S. Marine Corps solution to secure communications.
World War I (WWI) introduced the concept of securing lines of communication with a foreign
language not used by both sides during the war. Innovative combat Commanders utilized Native
Americans and their language within their ranks to send secure message. These Native transmissions
had flaws. The messages transmitted in the native language did not have a coded format. Military
terms for rank, weapons, and vehicles also did not exist in the Native vocabulary. At the conclusion of
WWI, the Germans identified the Native American tribes by their language used during the war,
exploiting and deterring any further similar attempts to secure messages. The U.S. Military ceased
further improvements into the augmentation of native languages and radio communication.
The U.S. Military, struggling with a communication disadvantage in the early stages of WWII
proposed to employ Native Americans and their language

1. Beer, created in the time of the Sumerians became a valuable resource, and was important in both
ritual and social standards. Hunter gatherers became so invested in the importance of beer that they
switched to farming, in order to maintain a steady and reliable form of grain and beer production. This
new found farming helped in food quality, as well as provide stable amounts of safe and nutritional
liquid to drink. Beer drinking societies had a considerable advantage over those people to didn t drink

How Is Figurative Language Used In Emily Dickinson s Poetry
Emily Dickinson was one of the most amazing poets that ever lived. Though her work did not start to
get published until after her death, it is still looked at as a great life accomplishment and is to this day
some of the greatest poems. Dickinson was a poet who used the words of her poems to describe a
feeling not just saying he or she is lonely or happy. A reader is able to see this in all of her work but
for me it stands out in two of her poems that seem to have the same meaning but the way the emotion
is portrayed is different in both of them. Loneliness is portrayed in both There s a certain Slant of light
and The Soul selects her own Society but the way a reader perceives the message of loneliness is
different. The use of her word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickinson usually uses four line stanzas which is true in both of the poems I have chosen. This allows
for more enhancement on the words that she chooses. Along with the uses of four line stanzas, she
seems to put more emphasis on certain words by capitalizing them. This could mean that these words
are meant to have more meaning and read more strongly or it could just be the way she was writing. It
seems to be words that would have more meaning towards them. For example in There s a certain
Slant of light , some of the words that are capitalized are Heavenly Hurt , Meanings , Despair ,
Distance , and Death . All of these words would seem to be words that would use more meaning since
the poem is about loneliness and alienation. Along with There s a certain Slant of light , The Soul
selects her own Society has capitalization on words that would not normally be capitalized. Some of
these words are Soul , Door , Present , Unmoved , and Stone . With these words being capitalized, it
appears that Dickinson wanted more emphasis on them making them stand out to the reader. Her
structure gets even more diverse than other poets because she uses the dashes in all of her poems.
Although the translators were unsure if that s what they actually were based on her hand writing, it is
still something that makes her stand out as a poet. The use of the dashes add a

Black Power Mixtape Analysis
The Black Power Mixtape follows momentous events between 1965 and 1975. It is directed by two
Swedish directors, and their nationality is very important for the layout of the film. The film takes
place during the Civil Rights Movement, and included leaders such as Stokely Carmichael, Angela
Davis, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers. This was also during the time of the Vietnam War, whom
Sweden saw a useless war. The heads of this country were the Nixon Administration, and Lyndon
Johnson s administration. Furthermore, The Black Power Mixtape included world renowned artists
such as Erykah Badu and Talib Kweli. I had no clue they were so educated on these matters. Also, the
author of our classes textbook, Robin Kelley, spoke. The compilation of information and video
footage was unbiased and fact based. The Black Panther movement was more of the focal point of the
film. This was a pivotal time in American history; as seen through foreign eyes. Also, this is my first
encounter with a foreign perspective of the United States during the Civil Rights Movement. Coming
up in school, no one ever taught me any other perspective on this part of American history. There s no
way possible they could compile ten years worth of events into two hours, but the directors included
information that I have never read before. Next, the era of black power highlighted black nationalism,
black arts, the economic structure of African

Freedom Of Speech Against The Nazis
The human right to express personal opinion publicly without fear of any punishment is one of the
greatest achievements of our civilisation. However as usual this freedom might be overused, so a
government has to control the quality of information and implications of speech. The biggest problem
is that speech is the great way to motivate people to act. Moreover, this acting could be both positive
or negative. The good example is ideologists that inspire revolutions or groups of people that are
uncontrollable and could be harmful to many innocent lives. The nazis are such a product of freedom
of speech. Surely any speech that does not respect constitutional rights of some person should be
punished. In the same time, the freedom

Original Writing Of The Phantomhive Manor
Some say that living in the Phantomhive Manor would be dull and boring. You didn t think so. On the
contrary, there were things that occurred that made it quite amusing to live on the large estate. One
was the constant misfortunes that befell the servants, such as the breaking of a substantial amount of
dishes, or the accidental killing of an entire garden. These events were the result of the servants own
clumsiness, and in part, foolishness; it made the Phantomhive Manor so much more lively and
humorous than it would be without them. One more thing that amused you at the manor was the head
butler, Sebastian. When you first found the house, you were surprised to see another demon there, and

However, when you slipped into his house, you were quickly met with Sebastian s weapons and fled
from the manor. Under his master s orders, Sebastian practically chased you across the city, wanting
answers as to why you had been in the process of sneaking into the Phantomhive Manor. After that
incident, Sebastian made you apologize to his master, although you were rather annoyed about having
to in the first place. For some reason, you kept visiting time after time, and Earl Phantomhive, who
was now your master as well, had made you a part of his staff after learning how long you had
managed to stay out of Sebastian s reach. Your job, more or less, was that of a maid, and trying to help
the other servants stay out of trouble. It wasn t that bad of a life, and you enjoyed it more than
scouring the streets for a poor soul who happened to venture upon you. This particular evening, you
had decided to have some fun by aggravating the head butler. Knowing of his hatred for dogs, you had
obtained some of the creatures, who weren t that bad in your eyes, and placed seven of them, directly
inside his room. When he retired to his room, you could hear his immediate gasp of surprise and
disgust as he found them. Afterwards, he chased the

Impact Of Culture On My Culture
Culture is defined as the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an
institution or organization by the Merriam Webster dictionary (Merriam Webster, n.d.). Everything
that has happened in my life has the ability to affect my culture. The few of the big things that I think
has impacted my life are GPS, smartphones, social media, emojis, and Google. These are technologies
that have change the way most people think and ultimately our culture. This quote was written in an
article by Eva Dodsworth, We now rely on technology to not only speed up our processes but to
reduce our own efforts (Dodsworth, 2008). I recently have purchase a GPS watch, so I can map my
bike rides. I also use GPS to assist in farming techniques, and my car has a GPS system. I keep my
phone on me at all times where 30 years ago someone my age would only have a bag phone in their
car because the technology was not there. Social media has been a part of my life since middle school,
I remember the first time I got a social media platform. I have to check my social media accounts
multiple times a day to see what everyone is up to. The creation of emojis is relatively new, but it has
impacted my life by allowing me to express my emotions over text in the form of cartoonish pictures.
Google has allowed me to not have to remember things like facts from history. I can just Google it if I
need to know it. These things have impacted my culture and I think many others. Global

Abortion Is Not Strictly the Woman s Private Matter Essay
Abortion Is Not Strictly the Woman s Private Matter
When it is said that abortion is just a woman s issue, we forget that there are two people involved in
creating a child. Fathers are continually overlooked and disregarded in situations involving abortion.
Many would say that a father is not affected by the woman s choice to have an abortion.
Legally, fathers are responsible for providing prenatal support for their preborn child, but have no
legal rights if the mother decides to terminate the life of that child. Many fathers have gone to court to
try to stop mothers from going through with their abortions. However, according to the courts, when it
comes to abortion, a mother s right to abortion overrides a father s objections. ... Show more content

We know that the baby has a completely different circulatory system than the mother, and often a
different blood type. He or she has a completely different genetic code. We know that by the 21st day
after conception the baby s heart has begun to beat (Tanner 64). Brain waves are detectable by day 40
(Hamlin 20), and movement also begins around this time (Arey). By eight weeks, when a woman
generally discovers she s pregnant, all body systems are present (Hooker). One doctor, operating on an
ectopic pregnancy at eight weeks, discovered an extremely alive, perfectly developed little person,
vigorously swimming in his environment with a natural swimmer s stroke. (Rockwell 11) The preborn
child is unmistakably human, unmistakably alive, and unmistakably distinct from the mother.
Does the baby feel pain in an abortion? The pain mechanism has been found to be functioning in the
preborn child as early as 45 days after conception. Abortion does cause pain (Noonan 213, Reinis 223
235, Collins 922 923). In the film, The Silent Scream, an actual first trimester abortion is seen via
ultrasound. The baby can be seen repeatedly moving to dodge the abortionist s suction instrument, and
her heart rate doubles. As she is dismembered, her mouth opens in a silent scream. Abortion is
violence against preborn children, and against the women in whose bodies the violence takes place.

Essay On The Restoration Of The New Netherlands
Since the many splits and merges of various religions, it seems that the Jewish people have never
seemed to be accepted in any other religious domain. In this Petition, the Jewish people have been
kicked out of yet another country, Brazil, which was previously under the power of the typically
religious tolerant Dutch. This petition is a way for the Jewish people to contact the Dutch West India
Company to address the fact that they are making it more difficult for the Jewish people to travel and
live in another country.
During this period multiple things were happening with the British colonies and with Great Britain
itself. Some of these things include the first set of slave codes, the colonization of the Carolinas,
Georgia, and East and West Jersey, but the two that I will be focusing on are the restoration of the
Monarchy and the conquering of the New Netherlands by Great Britain. ... Show more content on

Before this England didn t have a monarchy but instead has a man named Oliver Cromwell controlling
all of England. In the 1660s, which most call the Restoration period, the monarchy was brought back
to the throne by King Charles II. King Charles II changed the way that Great Britain thought about
their colonies. He believed that the future of Great Britain rested in the colonies hands, so he changed
how the way Great Britain dealt with the colonies. First, he granted allies control of areas of the
colonies so that they could settle the area faster and be able to focus completely on said colony; this
was different from the way the colonies were controlled before because they were Royal colonies, the
King had complete control, but now they are called Proprietary colonies. This establishment of
Proprietary colonies leads to the next topic of how Great Britain conquered the New

Macon, Georgia – We Made The Big Move At The Beginning
Macon, Georgia We made the big move at the beginning of my senior year and I was around 16 at the
time. I had all of my senior credits for school in Colorado because of advanced placement courses. But
Texas had a whole new set of rules regarding graduation. There was a test called TAAS, which I was
expected to take with less than a year of preparation, while the rest of the students had been raised and
prepared for this test their entire school life. I knew that I would have academic obstacles because the
curriculum was also different and most of it focused on southern issues that were new to me, such as
FFA and welding courses as electives. If the new high school wasn t going to be a problem, my new
home life would. It s very hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the moment we arrived in Macon, the family treated us like outsiders because of what little they
knew about my dad and our new move. When it became evident that we would be there for a while, I
was enrolled in the local high school, where I had numerous cousins and one of my younger sisters
with me. My sister quickly found a spot among the it kids, while I stood back and observed trying to
make sure she stayed clear of trouble. I had few if any peers who talked to me when not required. This
school was a majority African American, so again I m not fitting in with the races because I talk and
act differently (my dad made sure we spoke proper, no jargon all the time). There were teasing and
name calling but I remained strong because I knew that my younger sister was getting the worse of the
deal. She had to begin school the way she enrolled and things were so bad for her, that during her first
week she got into multiple altercations with other students, some who were her blood relatives. I had
no friends, more so enemies and my guard was always up because my cousins loved to get me in
trouble, even when I had done nothing wrong. Finishing high school remained my biggest concern
because at least then I could try to work and find a new home for us (we had to stay with relatives). I
never could stand cigarette smoke and I didn t like alcohol, so the cool kids, which sometimes

Sn2 Reaction With 2-Bromobutane
In this experiment, the purpose was to create and observe the effects of a S_N 1 reaction. Silver nitrate
was dissolved in ethanol. The nitrate ion is a decent nucleophile, and ethanol is a fairly powerful
solvent. The difference in a SN1 reaction than an SN2 reaction is that a carbocation is formed. The
leaving group wants to leave on it s own, causing a multi step synthesis. The leaving group leaves,
creating a carbocation. The nucleophile finds the carbocation and attaches itself to it. More
substitution is preferred for SN1 reactions because the more stable a molecule is, the more stable the
carbocation will be. The following mixtures were combined with the silver nitrate dissolved in
ethanol: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane. ...

This is because chlorine is a poor leaving group, which is a critical characteristic of a SN1 reaction.
The reaction with 2 bromobutane formed a dense precipitate. This is because there is a lot of stability
present in this molecule and bromine is a good leaving group for the reaction. In test tube 3, the
reaction with 1 chlorobutane did not form a precipitate. This is because chlorine is a poor leaving
group and the molecule is primary, which means there s no steric hindrance, which is not ideal for a
SN1 reaction. In test tube 4, the reaction with 1 bromobutane formed some cloudiness after heating.
This should not have happened because there is no stability in this molecule. The cloudiness was more
than likely due to some sort of cross contamination. Finally, in test tube 5, the reaction formed a very
dense precipitate within the first couple seconds. This is because this molecule has the most steric
hindrance

  • 2. R v. Dudley and Stephens In the case R v. Dudley and Stephens, the two sailors should not have been found guilty or charged with murder. I will examine the case with two theories of punishment, retributivism and consequentialism. I am using these two different frameworks because they both have two different requirements in order to justify punishment. Retributivism requires agents to be morally responsible, while consequentialism requires an agent to be rational. It is important to distinguish how the same action can be found guilty or non guilty depending on the framework of punishment being used. Dudley and Stephens should be found guilty under a retributive framework of punishment, but be found innocent under a consequentialist one. However, my conclusion that both Dudley and Stephens should be exempt from criminal prosecution comes from looking at a combination of retributivism and consequentialism that Duff calls Side Constrained Consequentialism. Side Constrained Consequentialism is a combination of positive retributivism and consequentialism. Side Constrained Consequentialism requires an agent to not only be a rational agent, but a moral one as well. I will begin by defining my terms and laying out the necessary details of the case. I will then review the case under the frameworks of consequentialism, retributivism, and Side Constrained Consequentialism. There are three main terms I will be referencing in this paper. The first is consequentialism. Consequentialism is, at heart, a framework ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reflection Of Group Development To begin, the very first part of group development but also the class, was to form a group that you would work with throughout the whole semester. The class discussed ways to assign group members, but ultimately, the decision was to let students pick their groups. In all honesty, I was not fond of this idea, but I selected my group. I began by wanting one of the two boys in my group, because I wanted a male s perspective throughout the project. I decided I wanted to work with Adam because I had witnessed him ask challenging questions and succeed in debates with previous professors, all characteristics I thought could be beneficial at the time. With choosing Adam came Matt, because since they were the only two males in a lecture dominated by females. Lastly, Alex decided she wanted to work with me because we had a previous class together and she stated she liked the way I handled myself within that lecture. Once the group was all in agreeance to work together, we began to take part in small talk, such as, how old we were, what we were studying, but mainly that we were all determined to get a high grade in this class, a comment I had taken seriously at the time and thought was true of all members. When the class was eventually instructed to discuss topics that were of importance to us, there was no doubt that focusing on nontraditional students and their connection to campus life was going to be the topic we focused on because it was of such importance to ¾ of our group. ... • 4. Benefits Of Secondary School Teacher Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world, Nelson Mandela. Secondary school teachers can essentially make or break the next generation of America. What students are taught in school can heavily affect how their future turns out to be. Secondary school teachers are some of the people that are heavily credited for many famous celebrities or athletes successes for the education they gave them. NBC News anchor Brian Williams is an example of someone who has given his secondary school teachers some form of acknowledgement for his success. Secondary school teachers are an important part of a person s life in their spiritual, mental, and moral growth in life, and are some of the people who help shape young mind s to do whatever they put their minds to. A skilled worker, regardless of the job description, remains a treasure, Madeleine M. Kunin. Over one million secondary school teachers currently hold jobs in the United States. Secondary school teachers typically teach students in grades ranging from seventh to high school senior, primarily in English, arithmetic, and science fields ( Secondary School Teachers 490), and each day they teach three to six classes of varying sizes. Secondary school teachers have a lot more benefits to their job than what it appears to be. A good majority of them are spiritual or mental benefits, but some benefits are physical or monetary. • 6. Realism And The Remystification Of Narrative By Wendy B.... Magical realism is a form of literary expression traditionally associated with Latin American literature and characterized by a merging of fantastical or mythical elements with realistic fiction, so that it presents a reality in which the mundane is lent a dimension of magic and the unusual is normalized. Even this definition of magical realism proves slippery. Whether it can be attributed to literature as a genre or a series of stylistic choices and trademark inclusions has been a great source of debate. Ultimately, while a strict definition of what magical realism really is continues to be elusive, it does have a set of identifiable qualities. In her book, Ordinary Enchantments: Magical Realism and the Remystification of Narrative, writer Wendy B. Faris breaks down the tropes of magical realism into five parts: First, the text contains an irreducible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These elements are what create the effect of the mythical without the story being an outright fantasy. Many literary scholars are of the belief that magical realism rose to popularity in Latin America as a response to postcolonialism[1]. Postcolonial literature is comprised of the literary canon that addresses the problems and consequences of decolonization through the lens of a colonizer/colonized experience. As former colonies, including those of Latin America, gained independence from European powers, it became necessary for the citizens of these territories to examine both their culture and their relation to the world. The era of colonialism under the European empire was one of oppression and stealth. The colonization of Latin American occurred between the 16th and 18th centuries, ending in the 19th century as nearly all colonies gained independence between 1808 and ... • 7. The Conflicts Between Seeing Nature As A Medium Of Art Imagine hiking and standing upon a mountain top and just basking in the beauty of the scenery around. Some people consider nature as the purest form of natural expression. Some artists consider nature as a medium of art. But what is a medium of art? Art is expressed to be man made, a form of human expression, a tale of beauty or tragedy. The world is a beautiful place filled with unique creatures, beautiful scenery and an overwhelming sense of power and importance. But a medium is considered as materials used to help express the viewpoint of the artist. In this evaluation argument one will see the conflicts between seeing nature as a contributor to art. where if it can be used as a material that inspires the artist, can be used to express emotion, and help support the point of view of the art work. One would think that nature would have nothing to do with art. But it seems that art can be found centered upon this idea. Nature is used in many different forms either to build a giant building or to just exists and to be admired. In many cases trees and other natural elements are used as art supplies. One can view the use of nature being used as a medium of art. Using the materials as a source of expressing the viewpoint of the artists. Some disapprove of this viewpoint, some people suggest that art is to conceptual to be related or influenced by nature. Some people also state that nature is based of evolution and science not on the concepts of feelings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of The Statue Of Liberty The Statue of Liberty was first thought of in 1865 by Professor Edouard de Laboulaye in France as a monument of Americas newly founded freedom. It was mentioned at a dinner party where the Sculptor of the statue Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was to design. This monument is over 100 years old, stands at 305 feet, and has a total weight of 225 tons and as you can imagine the building of this massive statue took many different materials, a lot of site planning, and over two decades to complete it. Many materials were used in building the Statue of Liberty. These materials are concrete for the base of the statue, Copper for the exterior of the statue, wrought iron for the bars that would hold the copper in place, glass for the windows in the crown, and then steel for the inside skeletal framework. In this statue there is 31 tons of copper, and 125 tons in the framework, because of this much work went into determining what materials were going to be used to build the statue. The reasons they had to put so much work into determining what materials they were going to use is because they came to an agreement with America. America was building the base while the statue itself would be built in France then shipped to America and assembled there. Since they came to this agreement the statue would have to be shipped from France to America and if the statue was too heavy the boat would have obviously sunk. So they thought of many materials they could use such as bronze and stone until they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Significance Of Nelson Mandela The focal point of this investigation assessment will be How significant was Nelson Mandela s role in the culmination of Apartheid system in South Africa during 20th century? Thus, the letters from Mandela to Hendrik Verwoerd regarded as the mastermind behind socially engineering and implementing the racial policies of apartheid, and the Speech to the Foreign Policy Association are sources of a peculiar importance to this investigation, due to the evidence of struggle and resignation that Mandela feel as a leader. This fear does not allow people to do things they want and is against the basic fundaments of a healthy society. In a healthy society, people would be free to go outside during night and kids would be free to whistle. If these fears do not change, then the society will be destroyed because freedom is a basic necessity for a health society. Continuing on, another example of fear being fabricated in the minds of the people is during the appearance of the ancestral spirit, during the funeral of Ezeudu. The ancestral spirits have a sickly odor hung in the air wherever he went, and flies went with him. Even the greatest medicine men took shelter, when he was near. (122). The Ibo religion once again is able to fabricate fear into the minds of its followers. The religion places a fear of ancestral spirits thus making the society sacred of walking around during the appearance of spirits, which once again violates the freedom of the people. If a religion is implementing fear within the society, it is slowly killing itself because people deserve freedom. Fear leads to destruction. In addition, a religion can unquestionably destroy a society due to class divisions. Osu s are the outcast of the Ibo religion. • 18. Similarities Between The Cake s Funeral And Their Eyes... In Zora Neale Hurston s, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie goes through three marriages, discovering herself along the way. At one point in her life, Janie marries Joe, an important leader for the town of Eatonsville, a large contributor to the town and well respected by many. Afterwards, she marries Tea Cake, a younger man but also well respected by his fellow workers. While both of their funerals may have the basic similarities of being funerals themselves, having many people, and being somewhat fancy, upon a closer look Joe s funeral is an outreach of his being controlling others, while Tea Cake s funeral is a memorial to him created by his friends and family, which reveals how much better of a husband and friend Tea Cake was. As far as veiling, the meanings within each book are primarily complimentary. When looking at the views on how certain affairs, such as veiling, should be enforced and interacted with, we see more skewed ideas. In general, all three show hegemonic qualities, yet Young and Defiant in Tehran reveals more dominating than hegemonic qualities. Veiling is an extremely debated and controversial topic all over the world. From what has been revealed, it can be presumed that a substantial difference of veiling across the board, is enforcement. From Veiled Sentiments to Young and Defiant in Tehran, the differences in ideas regarding veiling are noticeably contrasting. The three anthropology texts involved, include further inside information and feelings regarding veiling. In Veiled Sentiments by Lila Abu Lughod, veiling is a choice and is not forced on women. Due to the faith and freedom of choice, most women willingly and happily veil properly. Although sexuality is not a popular norm among the Bedouin, it is not the sole reason for veiling. Granted, women will be criticized and mocked for not veiling or taking part in sexual affiliations. World War I (WWI) introduced the concept of securing lines of communication with a foreign language not used by both sides during the war. Innovative combat Commanders utilized Native Americans and their language within their ranks to send secure message. These Native transmissions had flaws. The messages transmitted in the native language did not have a coded format. Military terms for rank, weapons, and vehicles also did not exist in the Native vocabulary. Though her work did not start to get published until after her death, it is still looked at as a great life accomplishment and is to this day some of the greatest poems. Dickinson was a poet who used the words of her poems to describe a feeling not just saying he or she is lonely or happy. A reader is able to see this in all of her work but for me it stands out in two of her poems that seem to have the same meaning but the way the emotion is portrayed is different in both of them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dickinson usually uses four line stanzas which is true in both of the poems I have chosen. This allows for more enhancement on the words that she chooses. Along with the uses of four line stanzas, she seems to put more emphasis on certain words by capitalizing them. This could mean that these words are meant to have more meaning and read more strongly or it could just be the way she was writing. It seems to be words that would have more meaning towards them. For example in There s a certain Slant of light , some of the words that are capitalized are Heavenly Hurt , Meanings , Despair , Distance , and Death . All of these words would seem to be words that would use more meaning since the poem is about loneliness and alienation. Along with There s a certain Slant of light , The Soul selects her own Society has capitalization on words that would not normally be capitalized. Some of these words are Soul , Door , Present , Unmoved , and Stone . With these words being capitalized, it appears that Dickinson wanted more emphasis on them making them stand out to the reader. Her structure gets even more diverse than other poets because she uses the dashes in all of her poems. Although the translators were unsure if that s what they actually were based on her hand writing, it is still something that makes her stand out as a poet. The use of the dashes add a ... The nitrate ion is a decent nucleophile, and ethanol is a fairly powerful solvent. The difference in a SN1 reaction than an SN2 reaction is that a carbocation is formed. The leaving group wants to leave on it s own, causing a multi step synthesis. The leaving group leaves, creating a carbocation. The nucleophile finds the carbocation and attaches itself to it. More substitution is preferred for SN1 reactions because the more stable a molecule is, the more stable the carbocation will be.
