Social Justice Personal Statement
As a young child, I remember being asked the question: what do you want to be when you grow
up? While I struggled with the answer for many years, in the course of my studies and work
experience, I found my passion for higher education. During my undergrad career, I was introduced
to the world of higher education, in which I found helping my fellow students a rewarding pursuit.
Furthermore, in the course of my political science studies, I found how politics, and governmental
institutions, influenced the culture, and educational pursuits of many, which piqued my interest in
social justice.
Over the course of my studies in political science, I found I gravitated towards subject matters that
related towards the socioeconomic aspect of the research paper. This is what piqued my interest in
social justice initially seeing how certain groups of people have been traditionally ... Show more

they thought were unfair, and possible remedies to solve the problem. As time progressed, I also
found that I enjoy speaking with potential clients that were college students and advising them on
legal issues. In talking to these college students about their loans, I discovered that I enjoy working

Function
A customer service strategy not only discusses what you do with customer feedback but how you
will obtain their opinions. Some companies employ surveys, while others feel speaking to clients
one on one may be more effective.
STEPS FOR DEVELOPING A SERVICE STRATEGY
Client focus is almost like a buzz phrase these days. How often do we leave a business
establishment and think, Wow, that was just incredible customer service! ? Or, how often do we
make a call to the customer service hotline and get off the phone thinking, I feel I ve been treated
like a king! ? Chances are, not very often. If the companies not providing WOW customer service,
then they are just providing service and that doesn t set them apart from the competition.
One of the best ways to evolve a culture to one with customer service engrained in it is to
implement a client focused strategy that unites company team to achieve the goal. This is a shift
that is going to take time; however, if they start with the basics and create a customer focused
infrastructure, they on their way to setting themselves apart from the competition.
Step 1: Identification of key programs, products, and services. This isn t about getting out a
company brochure and saying this is what we do. It is far more in depth: Review the output of
your work and who receives, uses or benefits from it. What you ll start to build is your value
proposition. Anyone can sell hardware

Racial Identity Essay
When we think of identity, there are many different things that come to mind such as race,
gender, personality, sexuality and many others. In this essay I am going to focus on racial
identity and skin color. You are going to be reading about some things that I struggled with in
my life being black and somewhat being different compared to everyone else. I will be
comparing my stories to Sherman Alexie s experiences in life. Sherman Alexie is a indigenous
american Poet, Short story writer and filmmaker who writes about his experiences that he had
growing up because of his race or the way he looks. For this essay I am going to utilize Indian
Education and two of my favorite stories by Sherman Alexie that I feel I can pertain to. In Lone
Ranger and Tonto fistfight in Heaven Sherman walked into a corner store to and the employee
assumed that he would be some sort of robber or that he would steal from the store. Can I help
you? The 7 11 clerk asked me loudly Searching for some response that I wasn t an armed robber.
He experienced prejudice. You are going to read a somewhat similar story that I have experienced

Spatial Memory
Spatial memory has been an intriguing field of study for many years. A major debate especially
arises when the spatial memory is said to differ between males and females. The five studies
attempt to attribute the variations to different reasons. The first paper (Lund,2001), attempts to find
the role of estrogen in the difference between the performance of learning and memorytasks in
males and females. The second paper, (Lejbak, 2011) emphasizes the n back task, a continuous
performance working memory measure that makes strong demands on working memory in the
superior cognitive load conditions. This strategy has been passed as an effective paradigm that is
used in neuroimaging as a measure for working memory. The third article, (Chennareddi,... Show

to gauge the performance as the individual progresses with age. The study used rhesus monkeys
that were subjected to various tasks with varying complexities. The results revealed that the
perfomance of the male spatial memory was superior to the that of the female subjects at the
beginning of the study. However, the rate at which the performance declined was higher for the
male subjects than the females. Working memory, however, was the only component of the study
that showed a difference. The study then concluded that males have an advantage in spatial

Who Really Decides Abortion
Who Really Decides Abortion?
The advocates for legal abortion, or pro choice believe women should have the right to abortion at
any point during a pregnancy. On the other hand, those against pro choice advocate that any
abortion should be considered murder, and want to protect human life. The landmark Supreme
Court case Roe v Wade (1973) allowed women the right to make their own personal medical
decisions regarding abortion, and pro choice women were then protected by a Constitutional Right
to Privacy. In the next three decades, Supreme Court decisions began to limit the ability for young
women, and especially low income women of color to make the decision to end a pregnancy. The
Supreme Court was also called upon repeatedly to decide whether ... Show more content on

We see this isn t the case in real world applications, but it should not require government interest to
be challenged at the highest level in order to outlaw discriminative laws and the lawmaking
process. It comes as no surprise to anyone that abortion restrictions especially in the state of Texas
were discriminative, and the acts of a few who challenged the discriminative lawmaking process
takes more than courage. For example, the Supreme Court s assumption that Men acting as
legislators, doctors, judges, or husbands must have a role in women s private decisions (Daly).
The bigger picture of this presumption should bring light to a question for legislative bodies who
have the power to pass laws. Should legislative bodies be considered in contempt for crimes of
discrimination for allowing such a burden towards women to exist. Restrictions passed went against
the governmental structure of political culture laid before us by our Founding Fathers, and after 2
decades some of the previously listed restrictions to abortion have finally been

Dunstable s Life In Fifth Business By Robertson Davies
Do you ever wonder why your life has taken the course it has? Was the path you chose sparked by
a particular moment from your youth? Or was it different incidents that have occurred throughout
your life? These are a few of the questions I am left with after reading the novel Fifth Business
written by Canadian author Robertson Davies. Originally published by Macmillan Canada in 1970,
this book is approximately 273 pages in length and takes about a week to complete. The novel
focuses on the story of the life of Dunstable Ramsay, a small town boy from Deptford, Ontario
who evolves from a child into an intellectual man looking for a meaning to his life. Dunstable
speculates on the past experiences of his life through a letter after retiring as a history teacher and

In his account, The involvement which he mentions is in reference to when his friend, Percy
Staunton, threw a snowball at him which accidentally hits Mrs. Dempster in the head and causes
her to fall. To make matters worse, Mrs. Dempster is pregnant at the time and this incident causes
her to enter labour early in which she eventually gives birth to a premature son. Even from the
beginning of the novel, Dunstable is concerned about how this one seemingly minor event can
have drastic impacts on not only the direction of his life, but also the effect everyone involved. As
the novel progresses further, you begin to realize that Dunstable is essentially a spectator who
explains accounts of other characters, eventually leading to his own discovery of his place in the
hierarchy of life. From his innocent experiences as a child, to his enlistment in the Canadian
military to fight in WW1, to his various ventures to Europe and South America to gain knowledge
about saints and magicians, Dunstable is constantly an observer of others lives as well as his

Analysis Of Color And I Love Lucy
Color Lighting: How To Get Away With Murder I Love Lucy
How To Get Away With Murder, a modern 2015 law and murder television drama, and I Love
Lucy, a 1951 live audience comedic sitcom, hold many differences in regards to color and lighting
usage. However, if thoroughly analyzed similarities can be discovered.
In the season finale of How To Get Away With Murder, the director makes great use of colorby
means of transitional color, surrealism, color as a symbol, special effect colors, atmospheric
colors, comic colors and advancing colors. The director effectively uses color as a transition from
past to present. Dark green tinted scenes are used to signal a flashback to past. Soon thereafter,
normal realistic colors returned during present scene. Specific examples of this transition is
when the audience is flashed back to when Sam was murdered, when Annalise discovered his
infidelity and when she found his dead body inside their home. Realistic colors resumed after
these scenes. Moreover, surrealism is present in this episode, specifically when Annalise discovers
Sam s dead body dripping with blood on the wooden floor. The dark green atmospheric tints used
in this scene altered the blood s red to appear additionally nightmarish (Petrie Boggs, 2011, p. 204).
Also, the colors in this specific scene contribute to three dimensionality. The dark nature of this
scene and green filter that succumbs the past, almost makes Annalise blend into the night but her

The Day Of A Peach Orchard
It was a brisk day as I walked downtown, admiring the small and large businesses nestled into the
corners of the long, narrow streets. As I walked down these familiar streets that I ve known all
my life, a watch appeared out of nowhere, as if it had just popped into existence that very
moment. I looked down at the odd watch, it was black and silver, like any other watch. I picked
it up. Looking closer, I noticed that this watch did not look quite as mundane as I had thought
previously. Instead of a clock it had something that looked like a map of the world and a rolling
combination lock. I pressed a couple buttons on the side, accidently moving the lock. I looked
down and saw the numbers were showing the combination 1 8 6 3, I pressed... Show more content

Well, at least I won t have to survive the night by myself. Before I knew it, he began walkingin the
direction he came. I jogged after him. I looked around at the peach orchard, it was so pretty. The
leaves were a vibrant color of green, radiating on each stretched out branch. Yellow and orange
peaches hung from each branch, slightly moving with the light breeze provided on this hot day.
I bet you re wondering how a bloody battle could occur in a peaceful place like this, huh? Lawrence

Yeah, it seems so nice, how could fighting ruin something this tranquil?

The Concept Of Discovery In Rainbows s End By Jane...
Can Discovery truly allows us to view life in a new and fresh way? Due to the complex and
abstract nature of the concept of discovery, a true sense of discovery harbour s the ability to incite
individuals in many differentiating ways as it can be provoked through their different past
experiences. The conceptof discovery has evidently evoked curiosity and inquisitiveness through the
protagonists of both the indigenous play Rainbows end composed by Jane Harrison, and also
through the novel The fault in our stars authored by John Green.
The process of discovery is dynamic, meaning that it is constantly changing and that it is also
severely shaped by the values and attitudes of the characters. This idea is conveyed through Nan

Egg Osmosis Lab Report
How Do Different Concentrations of Sucrose Influence Osmosis of a De Shelled Egg
10/14/2017
BIOL 2110L
Professor Rollins
By: Autumn Maxey
Lab Partners: Joanna Galan, Karena Newell, Allyson Clark Introduction: Osmosis by definition is
the process of diffusion in which a fluid moves from an area of less concentration a hypotonic
solution, of dissolved particles to a region of higher concentration or hypertonic solution, of
dissolved particles across a semi permeable membrane (a membrane that only allows specific
membranes to pass through it). Because there is a difference in the concentration gradient, the
dissolved particles are free to move across the semi permeable membrane from the higher
concentration to the lower concentration. In order to study the transfer of liquid across the plasma
membrane, in this experiment a de mineralized egg was examined. Upon receiving the eggs they
had already previously been soaked in a vinegar solution for several days, dissolving the eggs
shells thus leaving a thin semi permeable membrane exposed, which is representative of the cells in
our bodies. In this experiment the process of osmosis is being observed and the different conditions
in which osmosis occurs. In the egg osmosis experiment kinetic energy is used making this process
a passive transport in passive processes concentration or pressure differences drive the movement
(Marieb,Smith, 2007) since ATP is not required which is called facilitated diffusion

The importance of a control system within the business.
Internal controls are methods or procedures adopted in a business to:
Assist in achieving the businesses objectives
Ensure financial information is correct and reliable
Ensure cooperation with all operational and financial requirements
Protect its Assets
They are essentially checks and balances within a business. It s objective is to reduce errors, limit
financial losses and prevent fraud. They also segregate duties within the company and limit one
persons control over an entire area. For example
never have one person writing, receiving and reconciling your business accounts.

After deciding what is required to prevent the occurance of the event, detect if any event has
occurred and to reduce impacts upon the business. The records of these events will be used in case
anything like this ever happens and can be identified to act on the situation. As the owner, you have
the responsibility and accountability for the effectiveness of the internal control system.
Bank reconciliation statements enable the business to compare the business bank account records
to the bank s records of the accounts balance in order to uncover any possible mistakes. Because
there is a difference between the time data is entered into the bank system and when data is
entered in the individual s system, there are sometimes a difference between account balances. The
goal of reconciliation is to determine if the difference is due to error rather than timing. I highly
recommend to do a bank reconciliation monthly as you can be more confident that your current
records are correct and it is easy for your tax agent to prepare the businesses income tax return or
activity statements faster. Any extra transactions that go through the accounts can go through
unchecked and end up costing the business money. Such as: Interest charges, bank fees or direct

Justice Systems And The Justice System Of Other Nations
There are numerous things that have been and will be discussed concerning our justice system and
the justice system of other nations. Contrarily there are varying types of courts all throughout these
other nations as well. Similarly, all nations have criminal sanctions, sentencing practices, and types
of punishment, death penalties, and imprisonments. The question I present is what about all those
who have been unlawfully convicted, sentenced and then later on exonerated centered upon DNAor

The U.S. Constitution is supposed to guarantee the protection of those rights. This is why we go
through countless lengths of looking for evidence and testimonies in our courts of law. Regardless
of who the person is or what they may have done, discretion should always be used because the
evidence will in many cases set the path for the sentence. If all the components are brought properly
to the case, then the investigations should work accordingly and as follows from courts to
sentencing. Nevertheless, those that are given a guilty verdict are not always the truly guilty
defendants, many innocent people have been led to prison and there is where their nightmare begins
in living color.
When an innocent individual is incarcerated, it is an injustice to the individual being sentenced, the
relatives of the sentenced, and the criminal justice system altogether. Years may pass and new
evidence will be presented such as DNA testing and it will have confirmed that individual as
innocent exonerated of their crimes. The challenge of being incarcerated is for the individual to
make a change into a normal life which many times can be hard. Not only should our society do
its part to improve the criminal justice system but also to support the responsibility in restoring
those who have served their time under a wrong conviction. If there is anything we as a society
should also provide to these once incarcerated, it is payment

The Creature s Narrative In Frankenstein, By Mary Shelly
The Creature s narrative in Frankenstein , by Mary Shelly, reveals an array of information
about the Creature as a character, and his true intentions. This narrative gives us an in depth
view of the Creature s life and experiences up and until this point in the novel. The Creature s
desire for a companion reveals and conveys a variety of romantic characteristics. His request for
a companion is not only justified, but is also Victor s responsibility to him. Victor s
abandonment of the Creature forced him to live a confused and lonely life as an outcast, and
because of this it is Victor s duty to right his wrongs. The Creature s narrative begins at the
moment he awoke, and continues up until the moment he frames Justine for the murder of

He explains how he learned that fire provides warmth, but is painful to touch, that food is better

Ceo Succession
CEO SUCCESSION: THE ULTIMATE MEASURE OF BOARD PERFORMANCE
by Clarke Murphy, The Corporate Board July/August 2010
Item number one on any description of corporate board duties is hiring and firing of a chief
executive. However, success in CEO selection depends in large part on shaping a sound
succession process from the board level. Shareholder advocates now see good CEO succession
planning as a reflection of the quality of the board itself.
Public debate regarding corporate governance issues tends to focus on one primary topic at a time,
depending on the dictates of current events. Classified boards, overboarding, director compensation,
risk management the attention of the corporate governance community has been focused on each ...

Because it centers on an event thought to be in the distant future and whose timing is ill defined, it
lacks urgency compared with day to day tasks. There is little perceived cost to putting it off.
The inclination to put it off is exacerbated by the Pandora s box of issues that rigorous succession
planning forces a board to confront. Identifying the competencies and experiences needed in the
next CEO requires solidifying the company s long term strategic plan, which often involves the
painful elimination of options.
Succession planning also shines a bright light on how well the organization develops internal
candidates (something explicitly called for in the Whole Foods shareholder proposal). The
development of internal candidates in turn requires careful human capital management. Failure here
can set off a horse race, or prompt the loss or demotivation of those executives who are not being
considered for the top slot, but are valuable to the company. It also demands the establishment of
consistent and objective benchmarking that includes not only internal candidates, but appropriate
external candidates as well.
Finally, successful succession planning demands the right attitude from the incumbent CEO. The
naming of a successor is viewed by some as a personal prerogative, by others as a threat. Because
succession planning is a tangible manifestation of the limited tenure of any CEO, it is

2 (See Appendix B) is an oil paint on canvas by Fritz Scholder. The piece is 90x60 inch and is
part of a collection at the Denver Art Museum. Super Indian No. 2 was inspired by a trip
Scholder took to Santo Domingo Pueblo. He had found a buffalo dancer sitting on the ground.
Scholder painted him with a horned headdress, beads around his neck, and an ice cream in his
hands. Instead of painting the man with the traditional attire, Scholder painted him as he saw
him. I think that that s why this painting is quintessentially Scholder, because he picked up on
the Indian as mythical being and Indian as ice cream cone eater, Scholder s second wife,
Romona Scholder states when speaking about the piece. The painting is a great example of
expressionist and pop art technique. The painting is clearly an expressionist piece as it is
presented through a solely subjective perspective, altering it radically for emotional effect that
arouse emotion and ideas. It s also easy to see Scholder s pop artist influence as it does not
portray a traditional theme, rather celebrating people of everyday life. The use of color and line
within the piece directs the viewer s eye to the buffalo dancer, emphasizing his importance to the
overall meaning. Scholder s use of subtle Native American aspects adds a balance to the piece that
effectively challenges pre conceived stereotypes. This can be seen through the traditional beads and
headdress the man is wearing, however, Scholder challenges stereotypes of Native Americans with
the addition of an ice cream cone. There are aspects of traditional Native American culture, as well
as the ice cream cone that functions to show that Native Americans are just like everyone

New Hope s the pastor only served on the second and fourth Sunday. Our communion was held
on the second Sunday. Rev. Reid changed the communion to the first Sunday and rearranged the
choir. He gave the Senior Choir the first and third Sunday and the Junior Choir the second and
fourth Sunday. My mother made robes for the choir and even embroidered names in them to
prevent any mix ups. She also ordered sheet music for us from the Theodore Presser Company in
Chicago, Illinois. At the time there were no available places in the area to purchase sheet music.
These things were done by the Grace of God and at no expense to the church. We had rehearsal
every Monday night. The memories are pleasant even though for many years during the winter
months there was no automatic heat. I would go to the church ahead of time to make a fire.
Most of the time my father would help me, and sometime I was on my own. I would make sure
the fire would burn before going back home then return later for rehearsal if it was not warm when
the choir members came in they would gather around the potbellied stove and I was up front on the
piano with my coat on. By the time the church really got good and warm, it was time to

The Stacy Peralta s Film Called The Crips And Bloods
In the 1950 s when segregation laws were still very present in America and racism was at its
peak, America did not care that they were ruining the lives of African Americans everywhere.
America also did not know that they had created two very dangerous monsters who would later
run the streets of Los angles, using murder to do so. In Stacy Peralta s documentary film called
The Cripsand Bloods: Made in America , gangs and gangviolence is explained and shown in great
detail. This documentary is used to attempt to bring attention to these gang s brutal way of life
and what caused this monstrosity. It is also used to bring attention to what can be done to
prevent any further gang violence and possibly help bring in funds for programs that help with
this cause, since they receive no federal money. This documentary is successful in doing this by
using raw footage to create a feeling to some degree of sympathy for the people involved with gang
activity. They also use every day people who have had their lives forever impacted because of gang
violence.
Using the three rhetorical appeals in essential to this documentary and its purpose. The ethos form
is very important here because it sets up good credibility and background for these gangs and their
members. The documentary starts out by using former gang members Ron, Bird, and Kumasi to
explain how and why these gangs began. Using actual gang members makes this documentary
automatically feel more relatable. The use of

Hypothesis For The Egg In Cranberry Juice
In biology class, we wondered what evidence we could gather through shell less eggs so we could
show osmosis and diffusion through the egg inner membranes. My hypothesis for the egg in
cranberry juice was that the color would change to red. My hypothesis for the egg in La Croix
would be that the texture would become rougher and it would become smaller. My hypothesisfor the
eggin syrup was that the color would become brown and the egg would become larger. I believe
with the knowledge I had at the time, that my hypotheses were not convincing because I did not
explain why I thought the eggs were going to change, I just stated it. In a controlled experiment, the
independent variable is the only variable that can be adjusted, while the dependent... Show more

We put our egg into syrup because we wanted to see if the color would change to brown and if
the size would change. The egg started out as whitish or light orange and changed to brown with
bits of white. It changed color because the syrup was trying to diffuse into the egg. However,
because the egg had bits of white, the color only stained the membrane. This means that the
diffusion did not fully occur. The egg initially weighed 88.3g but after the experiment, it had
decreased to 48.39g. I believe this happened because the egg was hypertonic, and so the size
decreased. The texture of the egg started out as squishy and slightly chalky and ended as being
deflated and having a smooth membrane. The texture most likely changed because the texture of
the syrup diffused into it and changed it. The egg deflated most likely because the egg was
hypertonic. These changes show that the egg membrane is selectively permeable because it let
the egg albumen out of the egg, but the syrup was only able to color the egg and not diffuse into
the egg completely. I believe that passive transport happened, but precisely diffusion. If I could do
the lab just on these changes, I would keep the egg in the syrup for longer until it stopped deflating
and then find out

STRATEGIC DIRECTION * Qantas Airways Limited may have won the capacity war between

In February 2014, the company announced an A$252 million loss in the first half of FY14 alone,
and the need to cut costs by A$2 billion and the workforce by 5,000 full time employees or part

cost reduction programme would be smaller but hopefully profitable. Given the severity of the
situation, Qantas is lobbying for the Federal Government not only to repeal or at least alter
theQantas Sales Act, but also to guarantee its debt. * Qantas is by some distance the leading airline
in Australia, in relation to both domestic flights and international flights. Despite a gradual eroding

over the forecast period. Qantas is so resolute in its attempt to maintain its dominance that it has
announced a determination not to allow its domestic market share to fall below 65%. Euromonitor
International s 49% value share for Qantas, down from 53% in 2012, is including both international

Virgin Australia adds to the market. This has been an expensive strategy for Qantas, particularly
since it has promised

The Interview Process For Oshkosh
There are many jobs that I have applied to and went through the interview process but the one

With these questions Angie asked many follow up questions to better get to know me so that she
could make the right decision about hiring me. Most employees that get hired go through two
interviews one with a part time supervisor or assistant manager and then the manager themselves.
But with my interview process I just interviewed with Angie the manager and no one else. When
thinking back to what was going on at the time at that store it was falling apart. Angie had just
moved to this store to become the manager from Lincoln City Carters, which Carters is a sister

Argumentative Essay On Baroque Music
Baroque Music The word Baroque was derived from the word barroco, which is used to mean the
period in which western region widely used music especially in the nineteenth century to express
how the European artist practiced the art. When the historical happenings of the music in well
explored, the critics who applied the musical knowledge made it look strange and majorly sounded
exaggerated. Furthermore, ornamentals were initially used during the era of Bash and Handel.
After the brand of music had shed the connotations that were derogatory, baroques became one of

earned a living through just writing the songs and were fortunate to be included in the payroll thus

of the institution in which the work was done dictated entirely which type of music that would be

Exome sequencing is one example of NGS that is useful when the identity of the specific genes
involved in the disease has not yet been identified. The technique, which entails sequencing only
the 1% of the genome that is exons and thus codes for proteins, is less costly than whole genome
sequencing and is increasingly being used for the diagnosis of rare inherited disorders. A 2013
study on MHS using exome sequencing was able to identify over 100 RYR1 and CACNA1S
variants in an asymptomatic population, reclassify several previously classified pathogenic variants
as likely non pathogenic due to high prevalence, as well as alert several individuals with a high
likelihood of MHS based on known pathogenic mutations7. The major use of large scale exome
sequencing efforts in MHS is that they will allow researchers to identify the pathogenicity of
variants identified in RYR1 and CACNA1S genes. In addition, the technique can be used in
combination with functional studies to identify new mutations in families for whom traditional
methods have not identified a mutation. A limitation of this technology, however, is that many
variants of unknown significance (VUS) are frequently identified, making interpretation and large
scale clinical application of the results

Stereotypes In Video Games
Every story has a hero, no matter their motive, background, or even their gender. Yes for those
who don t know, there are women in video games. Most are in the background or running around
as an ally or enemy, but what most people don t realize is that there are a lot of games where the
lead is a female. For people who pay more attention to the gaming world, this is more common
knowledge, but there seems to be a misconception. Most think females are nothing but eye candy
for male gamers, but this is simply not true. Not only are femaleprotagonists not represented poorly,
females in general as gamers are just as common.
There are also many female protagonists in games as well. Some of these games give you a
choice to be male or female but it doesn t effect the game experience. They give you almost full
customization abilities for either gender too. Some examples of very successful games that give
you the choice to be male or female and give you almost full customization are Skyrim, Oblivion,
the Fallout series, Saints Row series, Halo 3 and onward, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse. There are
many other games that do give you a choice but do not allow you to customize them but, some
games do not let you choose for story reasons. Some of these games are Tom Clancy s Rainbow 6

No, David ! By David Shannon
Imagine your child is always testing your limits by performing mischievous actions. The child is
coloring on the walls of their bedroom, playing baseball in the house, climbing on the furniture,
bringing in dirt from outside, etc. How would you react? With this in mind, No, David! by David
Shannon uses the relationship between pictures and words to demonstrate predictable negative
comments in words from an adult figure in association to relatable child like behaviors in pictures.
Initially, the cover and title page of the book both play a key role in the layout of the story. On the
cover, the artistic style of the illustration looks like a cartoon and a painting. This style is very
realistic because of the situation portrayed on the cover; yet playful at the same time because of
its comical vibe. The cover also looks three dimensional and the author seems to be using a
straightforward perspective of art. This idea is led be true because the child, wall, and table with
the fishbowl are all facing towards the reader. The title is also as large in font as the child and fish
bowl are. This shows that the cover is relatively proportional in both text and pictures.
As a result, the child on the cover has sharp teeth and an almost evil grin as he is attempting to
pick up the fish bowl off of a table that is above his head. Secondly, looking at the fish; their facial
expressions show that they are fearful of what is occurring. Both fish have open mouths, as well as

Justice Is Not Rigid And Unchanging Like So Many People
Justice is not rigid and unchanging like so many want to believe. For the Ancient Greeks in the
8th century, blood justice is the only way to settle disputes. By the mid 400s BCE, there are
glimpses of what will later become a trial by jury in a democratic judicial system. Aeschylus
plays show a distinct shift from blood justice to a more democratic system. Even Homer, when
writing his epic works, seems to hint at a better way to resolve conflict than the eye for an eye
mentality. The Iliad acts as book ends to the transformation of blood justice to a trial by jury as
presented by The Oresteia; and that transformation positively influences how Western culture deals
with justice. Blood justice to the Ancient Greeks is their way of enacting retribution on parties that
did them wrong. The punishment required by blood justice must fit the crime committed, Act for
act, wound for wound life for a life; and that leads to many turning to their rage as a tool to help
them justify their actions (Agamemnon1555). The Iliad opens with Rage Goddess, sing the rage of
Peleus son Achilles(Iliad i.1). It is Achilles rage that is called upon and drives his actions through
the entire work. Achilles rage is to right a great wrong done to him, but it comes at a deadly cost.
Patroclus begs to be sent into battle to help the Greeks fight. He wants to bring some light of
victory to the Argives by donning Achilles armor to boost morale and drive back the Trojans (Iliad
xvi.43 49).

Quantitative Research. Essay
Statement 1
Proverbs 25:2 says, It is the glory of God to conseal things, but the glory of kings is to search

and why people do things. Quantitative research behaves in a quantified since and assigns
numerical values to responses and measure statics. With this said Proverbs, the bible verse,

Statement 2
Quantitative research methods are best because they use quantity data to obtain results from the
population of interest. This for example can be bases on what the majority feels. The method uses
measures in the view and opinion of others and who feels them the most or less. This method can
be chosen at random representing the population of interest. They collect their data by telephone

method to go to when choosing a course of action. This is best to research something further and
usually comes after Qualitative research. 1 Chronicles 29:17 I know, my God, that you examine

Seven Steps to Solving the Housing Crisis
The crisis that America has found herself in, to be completely blunt and honest, all revolves around
stupidity and bad choices. American citizens that had absolutely no business even thinking of

three characters who I could relate to in my life. With Poseidon, he redirected Odysseuss path and
made the journey even harder for him by setting up numerous obstacles. Then came the sirens,
who offered a distraction to Odysseus and his men, but eventually overcame it by plugging
earmuffs into their ears. Finally, the last character that was chosen was Calypso who s island
was the island of trouble for Odysseus. These three characters cause problems for Odysseus, but
he reached his island(his home) Ithaca. With these three characters, I can relate to my life since I
have had a Poseidon, Calypso, and Sirens who stopped me from my Ithaca. First Starting off with
Calypso, she was a woman who considered Odysseus as her mortal... Show more content on

Critical Analysis Of Education In The Education Of Henry...
Introductions can range anywhere from a few, simple sentences to paragraphs of intense
information. The introductory Preface of Henry Adams s work, The Education of Henry Adams, is
a section that insists on one s attention and care. It presents an explanation of and questions on what
the main concern of the following sections is. The Preface informs that educationis the central focus
within his book, but also prompts confusion. He causes the reader to take the time to ask: which
factors of education are useful, and which are not? Are there differences in how education is fit
upon every unique person? How is education viewed by Adams, and does this perspective change
over the course of his life? Does the modification of his viewpoint change not only his main
character s experiences, but also his own character? Is education something to dread or something
to desire? The Preface is the source of confusion in his work, and the subsequent sections of Adams
s piece Harvard College, The Dynamo and the Virgin, and Vis Inertiae answer these questions and
more through his analysis of education and the effect it has on students.
One of the most notable things in the Preface is Adams s mention of the manikin, the garment, the
tailor, and how the three of them coexist. By reading the succeeding sections of his story, the
symbolic explanations of the objects become more clear. The manikin can represent the student,
upon which the tailoring teacher drapes the garment of

Decision Systems And Human Computer Interaction Essay
On a warm evening after a busy day at the office, I fired up my Laptop to search Big Bang Theory ,
to learn further about the famous theory. However, all my search results were related to the sitcom.
This was astonishing, nevertheless, I checked the next page, the page after that, and so on.
Surprisingly, not even a single result pertaining to the intended scientific theory existed in the
search result. Only after appending the term science I arrived at the expected result. This made me
ponder about underlying intelligent systems at play, including the possible reasons for search
engine s failure to present the expected results. This incident was phenomenal in transforming my
way of thinking about recommendation systems and Human ComputerInteraction.
During my senior year (B.E), my focus was mainly towards studying software development and
Intelligence in electrical systems (Smart systems). My accomplished projects involved Integrated
Smart Meters alongside Schneider Electric and High Voltage Breakdown Automation sponsored by
National Instruments which seamlessly implemented Internet of Things. Both projects demanded
learning new programming suites as languages such as JAVA and LabVIEW. The more I worked on
smart systems, the more curious I was about Intelligence systems and their interaction with humans.
With the help of an online course from Stanford on Artificial Intelligence systems, I executed my
first code on AI. When IBM conducted a national level programming

British Imperialism In Nigeria
British Imperialism in Nigeria
The British empire began in 16th century and lasted until around 1997. During this time Great
Britain controlled a lot of the World s land and population. Britain had immense power and used
it for their own dominance. They wanted to spread their ideology and culture to other
societies.Britain was imperializing many parts of the World. Imperialism occurs when a strong
nation takes over a weaker nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural
life ( Boisestate.edu).For Britain, this process was strengthening their nation as a whole so they
began to really expand their outreach. After WWI Britain really started a long period of ruling.
During this period, Europe s powers added nearly nine million square miles (23,000,000 square
kilometers) to their overseas colonial possessions. As it was mostly unoccupied by the Western
powers as late as the 1880s, Africa became the primary target of the new imperialist expansion,
although conquest took place also in other areas notably Southeast Asia and the East Asian
seaboard, where Japan joined the European powers scramble for territory (New World 1). They
were many countries involved in British imperialism however, one of the most prominent and well
known country was Nigeria. Nigeria was a huge gain for Britain because Nigeria had access to an
abundance of natural resources and also was a post for the slave trade that Britain was heavily
apart of at the time. There were many ways that British imperialism affected Nigeria, some being
positive and some being negative, the country dealt with them and learned from every aspect of
the situations trying to become a better and stronger country for their own sake. In this paper
websites played a large role in the research. I found that websites helped a lot because I was able
to find a lot of information on my topic in a quick amount of time. Also, living in Oklahoma it
would be hard to find a decent amount of information on the British and their rule over Nigeria.
Databases were another online resource I used to find an abundance of facts in a short time. Many
of the Databases were approved by the school so the information was very reliable and exact.

Popular Vote Dbq
History has shown us that some leaders are great and others are not. Such as George Washington
who was a great leader and the people loved him. King George III did not have a great reputation
in the colonies of America. They were not happy with how he was leading and taxing the
colonies. After America became free, a new way of electing a leader was needed. At first
America used the popular vote to elect leaders and then the people in smaller states started to get
upset. They felt as if they were dirt on the bottom of everybody s shoe and they were not
appreciated. So on February 1, 1877 the United Statesof America created the Electoral College.

There are a larger number of votes because of all the people that live in the United States today.
Many of them are from other countries and are separated into where they are from. The popular
vote is what is decided for the state. It helps the representatives of the state to says which
candidate to vote for. The Electoral College came into the United States in 1877, however that is
the way that the U.S. has been voting for presidents ever since the Electoral College was
invented. Only five presidents have won without the popular vote, now that could be for many
reasons. Such as the representatives decided to vote opposite of the popular vote or it would
mean that one party leads more of the country than the other. Then the country could be able to
pass bills or agree with each other. I think that the Electoral College is needed. It helps the U.S.
determine who the next president is. It takes the popular vote and tells how the section of the
state is voting. The states have a certain amount of electors to use and that will tell whether the
stated voted Republican or Democratic. Many people run for the president each time there is an
election and the people always have a favorite. In 2016 it was Hillary Clinton; she lost to Donald
Trump who did not have the popular vote. She was predicted to win the whole election. However
that was not the case. The Electoral College said otherwise and said that Donald Trump won
instead of Hillary. It was the second time for this to happen in 16 years, before Trump it was
George Bush who won without the popular

Dharma Bums
Erica Schlecht Professor George Dorsty English 223 2 April 2013 A True Dharma Bum One of
the most powerful quotes in the entire book that I feel sums up what it is to be a dharma bum, I
felt free and therefore I was free . This quote from Ray Smith shows that a dharma bum must always
believe in oneself and take the journey to becoming a Dharma bum from within. Although one can
learn from fellow dharma bums such as the Saint Teresa bum, Han Shan, and Japhy the ultimate
truth of being Dharma bum comes from within. Saint Teresa Bum is the first genuine dharma bum
that Ray Smith, the main character is Dharma Bums has ever met. The book starts off with Smith

In chapter 24 the same idea is brought up, Maybe I ll be rich and work and make a lot of money
and live in a big house. But a minute later: And who wants to enslave himself to a lot of all that,
though? (Chapter 24). Jack Kerouac s writing about this shows that dharma bums do not need to
fit into the mold of working society to be happy. At the same time a dharma bum is not one that
sits around doing nothing, but one who constantly searches for oneself in nature and the things
around him. This is shown in another quote from the book, by God, you re right, all those
sedentary bums sitting around on pillows hearing the cry of a triumphant mountain smasher,
they don t deserve it (Chapter 12). Smith discusses what he has learned from Japhy here, I
realized I had indeed learned from Japhy how to cast off the evils for the world and the city and
find my true pure soul, just as long as I had a decent pack on my back. I got back to my camp
and spread the sleeping bag and thanked the Lord for all He was giving me (156). Japhy has
taught Smith that the Lord gives us all that we need and to look within the find true Dharma Bum
peace. Being a Dharma Bum is not something that can be defined as one particular thing.
Following certain procedures such as disposing of worldly possessions to look within and find
oneself is a good step, but cannot truly define one s journey. The Dharma Bums that Smith learns

Schizophreni The Disease Within Male Young Adults
Mental disorders has been around since mankind ever existed. Schizophrenia was first diagnosed
and identified by a German physician, Dr. Emil Kraepelin. Kraepelin discovered the disease within
male young adults. At first, the disease was named dementia praecox . Then, a Swiss psychiatrist,
Eugene Bleuler changed the name to schizophrenia. Both Bleuler and Kraepelin subdivided
schizophrenia into categories and discovered positive and negative symptoms. Schizophrenia is a
brain disease that interferes with normal brain functioning. It causes patients to have irrational
thought and behavior. The disease alters understanding, feeling and cognitive skills. Having a
disorder to think diminishes the ability to think logically and clearly (Baier). The disease shows
incapability to participate in conversation and contribute to the patient s family, friends, and
society. Delusion is also experienced by patients which make them believe that people may be
conspiring against them. Also patients may hear voices warning them of danger telling them what
to do. Schizophrenia commonly starts in the adolescence, between late fifteen to twenty five years
of age for men and between twenty to thirty years of age for women. Schizophrenia is very rare to
children (Dyer). However, schizophrenia can occur to children younger than fourteen years of age.
Many researchers have also concluded that schizophrenia takes time to happen, but can also occur
rapidly. Schizophrenia starts at prodromal

Differentiating Between Market Structures
The airline industry is a competitive market in society today. It is a perfect example of an
oligopoly market structure because it is highly concentrated. There are many large players within
the industry but only a few that determine the market prices like JetBlue. According to CNN Travel
(2013) For the ninth consecutive year, JetBlue Airways ranked first for satisfaction among all North
American airlines.

low which has a direct impact on the other organizations. To ensure the demand stays high the...

Or, when it is around the time of the year when the organizations know consumers will be
traveling and he or she will be willing to pay the higher prices. The demand seems to rise during
these times but the supply does not change therefore allowing the prices to increase and increase
until consumers are no longer willing to pay for it.
JetBlue is only one organization out of many that have a direct impact on the prices of airlines
travel. The organization is number one because it has made changes to not only the prices but the
overall experience to better accommodate the travelers. When an organization has competition like
American Airlines or United Airlines it must find ways for it to stand out above the rest. Many
consumers think having a cheaper flight makes it the best flight but that is not always the case.
Regardless, the oligopoly in the airline industry is fierce and here to stay for a while.

Racism Articles On Racism
A case of a solar eclipse metaphor gone terribly, terribly wrong has become a conservative talking
point about the left and racism.
Last week, the Atlantic reprinted a Democracy: A Journal of Ideas article, which attempted to
make a hard to parse point about race in America in the context of the solar eclipse. The thesis of
the article was that the regions experiencing the total eclipse are mostly inhabited by white people
and also America has a history of racism.
It was quickly picked up by far right pundits and conservative media as the left s attempt to make
everything about racism. Here s Infowars Alex Jones tweeting about it:
The left wants you to think #SolarEclipse2017 is racist. RT if you disagree! https://t.co

And conservative columnists Matt Walsh and Charles Cooke:

Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) August 19, 2017
The Daily Caller bashed the article with the headline The Eclipse Is Racist Because It Fails to
Affect Enough Black People, The Atlantic Suggests.
The article comes on the heels of a terror attack at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville,
Virginia, which left one anti racism demonstrator dead. President Donald Trump equivocated his
condemnation of neo Nazis after the incident, prompting backlash from both Republicans and
Democrats. But

Glucosamine Case Study
If you have an older dog, he or she may be affected by arthritis, which is a common problem in
older dogs. Some of the signs include lethargy, a reluctance to move around, and visible signs of
pain when touched. One effective solution is glucosamine, a supplement that has been proven to be
effective in fighting this problem. It works by building up the cartilage, allowing the dogto enjoy
being able to move around once more.
If you are considering this option for your dogs, check with your vet before doing anything, as
your dog may need to have sulfate, HCL or 2KCL glucosamine. Regardless, a low quality product
will not be as effective, and you should ensure that the product you use was produced in a GMP
certified plant and is of high quality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A second opinion from another vet is often a good idea, especially if your dog seems to be very
sick, and a double dosage of the drug for the initial four to six week period is generally
recommended by most vets. Over time, the dosage amount can be reduced as your dog shows signs
of improvement.
How Effective Is It?
There are various factors that determine the right glucosamine dosage for dogs and the dog s
weight is one of the most important. The following are meant to be guidelines only, and your vet
will be able to advise on the dosage that is both safe and effective. A maximum of 300 mg of
glucosamine should be given to a dog weighing under 10 pounds, while twice this amount can be
administered to dogs weighing between 11 and 29 pounds. A dog that weighs from 30 to 59 pounds
should be given 1200 mg, while a dosage of 1800 mg is recommended for a dog weighing from 60
to 120 pounds.
Once you start giving your dog this product, it will generally be several weeks before you start to
notice signs of improvement, and you should not expect to see results overnight. The original
dosage may be too low if you do not see any signs of improvement after about a month, or it could
mean that your dog also should be prescribed anti inflammatory

Bruce Lee Research Paper
One of the greatest martial artists of all time is named Bruce Lee. He grew up in Hong Kong,
China where he later spread Chinese Kung Fu throughout the United States. Bruce and his family
would not have to worry about money since the father was an actor. Getting bullied in his private
school, Lee was destined to practice Kung Fu. From there, he practiced Wing Chun under the
tutelage of Master Yip. Lee s mother noticed he would be getting into trouble with the police
frequently, so she thought of sending him to the United Statesto study. When Lee moved to the
U.S., he started to teach Americans the art of Kung Fu. Bruce became one of my biggest

the art of Jeet Kune do as well. He wanted to spread his knowledge to everyone, so they would

positive impact on the world. Bruce Lee let the world know about his philosophies and beliefs.
He tried to make the world a better place. He tried to change the way people view Asian
Americans through his acting (playing as a martial artist). Everyone would look up to him since
he could beat up any guy. He eventually spread his name throughout the world and got people to

Analysis Of The Book By Helen Humphreys And Days Of...
Coventry by Helen Humphreys and Days of Significance by Roy Williams have a number of
sexual interactions. The only problem with all but one of these sexual interactions is that the
importance of sexual acts is missing. When the gravity of the war has sunk into Harriet in World
War Two her sexual interaction with Jeremy is not special. In Days of Significance the war in
Iraq has many influences on sexual interaction, non of which are positive. Also, Overlord and
Execution display the lack of importance and some aspects of objectifying woman. I argue
using these sources that in times of war sex loses its importance and turns into a casual
interaction as well as being prevented all the while objectifying females. To begin, one primary
text that illustrates the effect war has on sex is Coventry by Humphreys. To start off, in the
beginning of the text Harriet has sex with her husband. The sexual interaction between the
married couple appeared to be so special the Harriet gave her husband a memento of their time
together, She had slipped a pair of her panties in this morning ... those panties he had struggled so
hard to take off her last night (Humphreys 13). When Harriet and Owen have sex in the beginning
of the text, the two still believed that the war would only last until Christmas. The gravity of the
war has not yet sunk into the newly weds. Without the full gravity of the war pressing down on
Harriet and Owen, the two were able to have a special sexual interaction.

The Effects of Subsidizing R D Projects
The effect of startup businesses on economic wealth is a hot topic nowadays. Not everyone agrees
with the current policies concerning entrepreneurship and its effect on innovation, job creation and
economic growth. Shane is one of those people who clearly disagrees with current incentives given
by the government(Shane, 2009). According to him, policy makers should no longer motivate
typical start ups by providing incentives to start a business like loans, subsidies and tax benefits.
This namely attracts marginal entrepreneurs that have a relatively high chance of failure. Instead,
policy makers should focus on the extraordinary entrepreneurs and help them by subsidizing R D
projects at small companies. According to Shane, those funds are much more likely to contribute to
economic growth and to create jobs. In this paper, I want to address this topic and investigate
whether this really is the case. The research question that will be answered is:
Is it possible for governments to pick winners to supply with R D subsidies and is this good policy?
First of all, I will investigate whether it is possible to categorize entrepreneurs into winners and
losers and subsequently I will analyze whether R D funds really contribute to economic growth and
create jobs. Furthermore, I will comment on fairness problems and unfair competition that could
arise when providing funds to elected firms only. Shane s suggestion to improve current policies is
to reallocate resources and

  • 2. Social Justice Personal Statement As a young child, I remember being asked the question: what do you want to be when you grow up? While I struggled with the answer for many years, in the course of my studies and work experience, I found my passion for higher education. During my undergrad career, I was introduced to the world of higher education, in which I found helping my fellow students a rewarding pursuit. Furthermore, in the course of my political science studies, I found how politics, and governmental institutions, influenced the culture, and educational pursuits of many, which piqued my interest in social justice. Over the course of my studies in political science, I found I gravitated towards subject matters that related towards the socioeconomic aspect of the research paper. Function A customer service strategy not only discusses what you do with customer feedback but how you will obtain their opinions. Some companies employ surveys, while others feel speaking to clients one on one may be more effective. STEPS FOR DEVELOPING A SERVICE STRATEGY Client focus is almost like a buzz phrase these days. How often do we leave a business establishment and think, Wow, that was just incredible customer service! ? Or, how often do we make a call to the customer service hotline and get off the phone thinking, I feel I ve been treated like a king! ? Chances are, not very often. If the companies not providing WOW customer service, then they are just providing service and that doesn t set them apart from the competition. The five studies attempt to attribute the variations to different reasons. The second paper, (Lejbak, 2011) emphasizes the n back task, a continuous performance working memory measure that makes strong demands on working memory in the superior cognitive load conditions. On the other hand, those against pro choice advocate that any abortion should be considered murder, and want to protect human life. The landmark Supreme Court case Roe v Wade (1973) allowed women the right to make their own personal medical decisions regarding abortion, and pro choice women were then protected by a Constitutional Right to Privacy. In the next three decades, Supreme Court decisions began to limit the ability for young women, and especially low income women of color to make the decision to end a pregnancy. For example, the Supreme Court s assumption that Men acting as legislators, doctors, judges, or husbands must have a role in women s private decisions (Daly). The bigger picture of this presumption should bring light to a question for legislative bodies who have the power to pass laws. • 9. Dunstable s Life In Fifth Business By Robertson Davies Do you ever wonder why your life has taken the course it has? Was the path you chose sparked by a particular moment from your youth? Or was it different incidents that have occurred throughout your life? These are a few of the questions I am left with after reading the novel Fifth Business written by Canadian author Robertson Davies. Originally published by Macmillan Canada in 1970, this book is approximately 273 pages in length and takes about a week to complete. The novel focuses on the story of the life of Dunstable Ramsay, a small town boy from Deptford, Ontario who evolves from a child into an intellectual man looking for a meaning to his life. Even from the beginning of the novel, Dunstable is concerned about how this one seemingly minor event can have drastic impacts on not only the direction of his life, but also the effect everyone involved. As the novel progresses further, you begin to realize that Dunstable is essentially a spectator who explains accounts of other characters, eventually leading to his own discovery of his place in the hierarchy of life. • 10. Analysis Of Color And I Love Lucy Color Lighting: How To Get Away With Murder I Love Lucy How To Get Away With Murder, a modern 2015 law and murder television drama, and I Love Lucy, a 1951 live audience comedic sitcom, hold many differences in regards to color and lighting usage. However, if thoroughly analyzed similarities can be discovered. In the season finale of How To Get Away With Murder, the director makes great use of colorby means of transitional color, surrealism, color as a symbol, special effect colors, atmospheric colors, comic colors and advancing colors. The director effectively uses color as a transition from past to present. Dark green tinted scenes are used to signal a flashback to past. Soon thereafter, normal realistic colors returned during present scene. Specific examples of this transition is when the audience is flashed back to when Sam was murdered, when Annalise discovered his infidelity and when she found his dead body inside their home. Realistic colors resumed after these scenes. Moreover, surrealism is present in this episode, specifically when Annalise discovers Sam s dead body dripping with blood on the wooden floor. The dark green atmospheric tints used in this scene altered the blood s red to appear additionally nightmarish (Petrie Boggs, 2011, p. 204). Also, the colors in this specific scene contribute to three dimensionality. The dark nature of this scene and green filter that succumbs the past, almost makes Annalise blend into the night but her bright read ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As I walked down these familiar streets that I ve known all my life, a watch appeared out of nowhere, as if it had just popped into existence that very moment. I looked down at the odd watch, it was black and silver, like any other watch. I picked it up. Looking closer, I noticed that this watch did not look quite as mundane as I had thought previously. The leaves were a vibrant color of green, radiating on each stretched out branch. Yellow and orange peaches hung from each branch, slightly moving with the light breeze provided on this hot day. Due to the complex and abstract nature of the concept of discovery, a true sense of discovery harbour s the ability to incite individuals in many differentiating ways as it can be provoked through their different past experiences. The conceptof discovery has evidently evoked curiosity and inquisitiveness through the protagonists of both the indigenous play Rainbows end composed by Jane Harrison, and also through the novel The fault in our stars authored by John Green. • 13. Egg Osmosis Lab Report How Do Different Concentrations of Sucrose Influence Osmosis of a De Shelled Egg 10/14/2017 BIOL 2110L Professor Rollins By: Autumn Maxey Lab Partners: Joanna Galan, Karena Newell, Allyson Clark Introduction: Osmosis by definition is the process of diffusion in which a fluid moves from an area of less concentration a hypotonic solution, of dissolved particles to a region of higher concentration or hypertonic solution, of dissolved particles across a semi permeable membrane (a membrane that only allows specific membranes to pass through it). Because there is a difference in the concentration gradient, the dissolved particles are free to move across the semi permeable membrane from the higher concentration to the lower concentration. In order to study the transfer of liquid across the plasma membrane, in this experiment a de mineralized egg was examined. Upon receiving the eggs they had already previously been soaked in a vinegar solution for several days, dissolving the eggs shells thus leaving a thin semi permeable membrane exposed, which is representative of the cells in our bodies. In this experiment the process of osmosis is being observed and the different conditions in which osmosis occurs. In the egg osmosis experiment kinetic energy is used making this process a passive transport in passive processes concentration or pressure differences drive the movement (Marieb,Smith, 2007) since ATP is not required which is called facilitated diffusion . ... As the owner, you have the responsibility and accountability for the effectiveness of the internal control system. Bank reconciliation statements enable the business to compare the business bank account records to the bank s records of the accounts balance in order to uncover any possible mistakes. Because there is a difference between the time data is entered into the bank system and when data is entered in the individual s system, there are sometimes a difference between account balances. The goal of reconciliation is to determine if the difference is due to error rather than timing. I highly recommend to do a bank reconciliation monthly as you can be more confident that your current records are correct and it is easy for your tax agent to prepare the businesses income tax return or activity statements faster. Any extra transactions that go through the accounts can go through unchecked and end up costing the business money. Such as: Interest charges, bank fees or direct credits or debits. The U.S. Constitution is supposed to guarantee the protection of those rights. This is why we go through countless lengths of looking for evidence and testimonies in our courts of law. Regardless of who the person is or what they may have done, discretion should always be used because the evidence will in many cases set the path for the sentence. If all the components are brought properly to the case, then the investigations should work accordingly and as follows from courts to sentencing. Nevertheless, those that are given a guilty verdict are not always the truly guilty defendants, many innocent people have been led to prison and there is where their nightmare begins in living color. When an innocent individual is incarcerated, it is an injustice to the individual being sentenced, the relatives of the sentenced, and the criminal justice system altogether. Years may pass and new evidence will be presented such as DNA testing and it will have confirmed that individual as innocent exonerated of their crimes. The challenge of being incarcerated is for the individual to make a change into a normal life which many times can be hard. Ceo Succession CEO SUCCESSION: THE ULTIMATE MEASURE OF BOARD PERFORMANCE by Clarke Murphy, The Corporate Board July/August 2010 Item number one on any description of corporate board duties is hiring and firing of a chief executive. However, success in CEO selection depends in large part on shaping a sound succession process from the board level. Shareholder advocates now see good CEO succession planning as a reflection of the quality of the board itself. Public debate regarding corporate governance issues tends to focus on one primary topic at a time, depending on the dictates of current events. Because it centers on an event thought to be in the distant future and whose timing is ill defined, it lacks urgency compared with day to day tasks. There is little perceived cost to putting it off. The inclination to put it off is exacerbated by the Pandora s box of issues that rigorous succession planning forces a board to confront. Identifying the competencies and experiences needed in the next CEO requires solidifying the company s long term strategic plan, which often involves the painful elimination of options. Succession planning also shines a bright light on how well the organization develops internal candidates (something explicitly called for in the Whole Foods shareholder proposal). The development of internal candidates in turn requires careful human capital management. Failure here can set off a horse race, or prompt the loss or demotivation of those executives who are not being considered for the top slot, but are valuable to the company. It also demands the establishment of consistent and objective benchmarking that includes not only internal candidates, but appropriate external candidates as well. Finally, successful succession planning demands the right attitude from the incumbent CEO. The naming of a successor is viewed by some as a personal prerogative, by others as a threat. Because succession planning is a tangible manifestation of the limited tenure of any CEO, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scholder has always worked in a series of paintings, and states that all of his paintings are self portraits of some aspect of himself. The piece is 90x60 inch and is part of a collection at the Denver Art Museum. Super Indian No. 2 was inspired by a trip Scholder took to Santo Domingo Pueblo. He had found a buffalo dancer sitting on the ground. Scholder painted him with a horned headdress, beads around his neck, and an ice cream in his hands. Instead of painting the man with the traditional attire, Scholder painted him as he saw him. I think that that s why this painting is quintessentially Scholder, because he picked up on the Indian as mythical being and Indian as ice cream cone eater, Scholder s second wife, Romona Scholder states when speaking about the piece. The painting is a great example of expressionist and pop art technique. The painting is clearly an expressionist piece as it is presented through a solely subjective perspective, altering it radically for emotional effect that arouse emotion and ideas. It s also easy to see Scholder s pop artist influence as it does not portray a traditional theme, rather celebrating people of everyday life. The use of color and line within the piece directs the viewer s eye to the buffalo dancer, emphasizing his importance to the overall meaning. Scholder s use of subtle Native American aspects adds a balance to the piece that effectively challenges pre conceived stereotypes. This can be seen through the traditional beads and headdress the man is wearing, however, Scholder challenges stereotypes of Native Americans with the addition of an ice cream cone. We put our egg into syrup because we wanted to see if the color would change to brown and if the size would change. The egg started out as whitish or light orange and changed to brown with bits of white. It changed color because the syrup was trying to diffuse into the egg. However, because the egg had bits of white, the color only stained the membrane. This means that the diffusion did not fully occur. The egg initially weighed 88.3g but after the experiment, it had decreased to 48.39g. I believe this happened because the egg was hypertonic, and so the size decreased. The texture of the egg started out as squishy and slightly chalky and ended as being deflated and having a smooth membrane. The texture most likely changed because the texture of the syrup diffused into it and changed it. The egg deflated most likely because the egg was hypertonic. These changes show that the egg membrane is selectively permeable because it let the egg albumen out of the egg, but the syrup was only able to color the egg and not diffuse into the egg completely. I believe that passive transport happened, but precisely diffusion. The technique, which entails sequencing only the 1% of the genome that is exons and thus codes for proteins, is less costly than whole genome sequencing and is increasingly being used for the diagnosis of rare inherited disorders. A 2013 study on MHS using exome sequencing was able to identify over 100 RYR1 and CACNA1S variants in an asymptomatic population, reclassify several previously classified pathogenic variants as likely non pathogenic due to high prevalence, as well as alert several individuals with a high likelihood of MHS based on known pathogenic mutations7. The major use of large scale exome sequencing efforts in MHS is that they will allow researchers to identify the pathogenicity of variants identified in RYR1 and CACNA1S genes. In addition, the technique can be used in combination with functional studies to identify new mutations in families for whom traditional methods have not identified a mutation. Initially, the cover and title page of the book both play a key role in the layout of the story. On the cover, the artistic style of the illustration looks like a cartoon and a painting. This style is very realistic because of the situation portrayed on the cover; yet playful at the same time because of its comical vibe. For the Ancient Greeks in the 8th century, blood justice is the only way to settle disputes. By the mid 400s BCE, there are glimpses of what will later become a trial by jury in a democratic judicial system. Aeschylus plays show a distinct shift from blood justice to a more democratic system. Even Homer, when writing his epic works, seems to hint at a better way to resolve conflict than the eye for an eye mentality. The Iliad acts as book ends to the transformation of blood justice to a trial by jury as presented by The Oresteia; and that transformation positively influences how Western culture deals with justice. Blood justice to the Ancient Greeks is their way of enacting retribution on parties that did them wrong. The punishment required by blood justice must fit the crime committed, Act for act, wound for wound life for a life; and that leads to many turning to their rage as a tool to help them justify their actions (Agamemnon1555). The Iliad opens with Rage Goddess, sing the rage of Peleus son Achilles(Iliad i.1). It is Achilles rage that is called upon and drives his actions through the entire work. Achilles rage is to right a great wrong done to him, but it comes at a deadly cost. Patroclus begs to be sent into battle to help the Greeks fight. • 42. Critical Analysis Of Education In The Education Of Henry... Introductions can range anywhere from a few, simple sentences to paragraphs of intense information. The introductory Preface of Henry Adams s work, The Education of Henry Adams, is a section that insists on one s attention and care. It presents an explanation of and questions on what the main concern of the following sections is. The Preface informs that educationis the central focus within his book, but also prompts confusion. He causes the reader to take the time to ask: which factors of education are useful, and which are not? Are there differences in how education is fit upon every unique person? How is education viewed by Adams, and does this perspective change over the course of his life? Does the modification of his viewpoint change not only his main character s experiences, but also his own character? Is education something to dread or something to desire? The Preface is the source of confusion in his work, and the subsequent sections of Adams s piece Harvard College, The Dynamo and the Virgin, and Vis Inertiae answer these questions and more through his analysis of education and the effect it has on students. One of the most notable things in the Preface is Adams s mention of the manikin, the garment, the tailor, and how the three of them coexist. By reading the succeeding sections of his story, the symbolic explanations of the objects become more clear. The manikin can represent the student, upon which the tailoring teacher drapes the garment of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this time Great Britain controlled a lot of the World s land and population. Britain had immense power and used it for their own dominance. They wanted to spread their ideology and culture to other societies.Britain was imperializing many parts of the World. Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a weaker nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural life ( Boisestate.edu).For Britain, this process was strengthening their nation as a whole so they began to really expand their outreach. After WWI Britain really started a long period of ruling. During this period, Europe s powers added nearly nine million square miles (23,000,000 square kilometers) to their overseas colonial possessions. As it was mostly unoccupied by the Western powers as late as the 1880s, Africa became the primary target of the new imperialist expansion, although conquest took place also in other areas notably Southeast Asia and the East Asian seaboard, where Japan joined the European powers scramble for territory (New World 1). Nigeria was a huge gain for Britain because Nigeria had access to an abundance of natural resources and also was a post for the slave trade that Britain was heavily apart of at the time. There were many ways that British imperialism affected Nigeria, some being positive and some being negative, the country dealt with them and learned from every aspect of the situations trying to become a better and stronger country for their own sake. King George III did not have a great reputation in the colonies of America. They were not happy with how he was leading and taxing the colonies. After America became free, a new way of electing a leader was needed. At first America used the popular vote to elect leaders and then the people in smaller states started to get upset. The Electoral College came into the United States in 1877, however that is the way that the U.S. has been voting for presidents ever since the Electoral College was invented. Only five presidents have won without the popular vote, now that could be for many reasons. Such as the representatives decided to vote opposite of the popular vote or it would mean that one party leads more of the country than the other. Then the country could be able to pass bills or agree with each other. I think that the Electoral College is needed. It helps the U.S. determine who the next president is. • 52. Analysis Of The Book By Helen Humphreys And Days Of... Coventry by Helen Humphreys and Days of Significance by Roy Williams have a number of sexual interactions. The only problem with all but one of these sexual interactions is that the importance of sexual acts is missing. When the gravity of the war has sunk into Harriet in World War Two her sexual interaction with Jeremy is not special. In Days of Significance the war in Iraq has many influences on sexual interaction, non of which are positive. Also, Overlord and Execution display the lack of importance and some aspects of objectifying woman. I argue using these sources that in times of war sex loses its importance and turns into a casual interaction as well as being prevented all the while objectifying females. To begin, one primary text that illustrates the effect war has on sex is Coventry by Humphreys. To start off, in the beginning of the text Harriet has sex with her husband. The sexual interaction between the married couple appeared to be so special the Harriet gave her husband a memento of their time together, She had slipped a pair of her panties in this morning ... those panties he had struggled so hard to take off her last night (Humphreys 13). When Harriet and Owen have sex in the beginning of the text, the two still believed that the war would only last until Christmas. The gravity of the war has not yet sunk into the newly weds. Not everyone agrees with the current policies concerning entrepreneurship and its effect on innovation, job creation and economic growth. Shane is one of those people who clearly disagrees with current incentives given by the government(Shane, 2009). According to him, policy makers should no longer motivate typical start ups by providing incentives to start a business like loans, subsidies and tax benefits. This namely attracts marginal entrepreneurs that have a relatively high chance of failure. Instead, policy makers should focus on the extraordinary entrepreneurs and help them by subsidizing R D projects at small companies. According to Shane, those funds are much more likely to contribute to economic growth and to create jobs. In this paper, I want to address this topic and investigate whether this really is the case.
