Biopure Case Summary
Biopure Case Intro
This case is on Biopure Corporation, a privately owned biopharmaceutical firm, competing in
emerging field of blood substitutes with two new products: Hemopure for the human market and
Oxyglobin for the animal market. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved
Oxyglobin on February 5, 1998. The approval of Hemopure is not expected until late 1999 or early
2000. The company must decide whether to release Oxyglobin immediately or to wait until Hemopure
has established itself in the marketplace. The key protagonist is Carl Rausch, the president and CEO
of Biopure. When proposing actions or solutions, Carl will need to convince the executives of the
company, including Dr. Ted Jacobs and Andrew (Andy) Write. Ted, the vice president for Human
Clinical Trials, thinks Biopure should wait to release Oxyglobin. Andy, the vice president of
Veterinary Products, thinks the company should release Oxyglobin immediately. ... Show more

One issue is that the animal market is smaller and more price sensitive than the human market, so
Oxyglobin will sell at lower prices. If Oxyglobin is released before Hemopure, it might create an
unrealistic price expectation for Hemopure because the two products are very similar in physical
properties and appearance. Another issue is that Biopure does not have experience releasing new
products and one of its competitors in the human market, Baxter International, has the experience. A
third issue is that the stakeholders of the company want the company to go public in the near future
and the decision could impact the success the initial public

Electronic Medical Records ( Emr )
Information Technology Technology plays a vital role on the overall productivity of a medical
practice. Electronic medical records (EMR) are commonly used by both large and small practices.
They offer practices an efficient mean of storing patient data; furthermore, the government offer
incentives for meaningful use of electronic medical records. Generally when it comes to implementing
an EMR, it is necessary to choose the right vendor. EMRs usually fall into three vendor systems:
single vendor, best of breed, and best of suite. The single vendor strategy offers the most cost effective
strategy for a small single specialty practice because it combines both the administrative and clinical
aspect of the practice; thus, allowing for a single contract with the vendor (Naleef, Ozcan, and
DeShazo, 2012). The other two vendor strategies, while offering more flexibility, tend to require
increase staffing, which may be too costly for a small practice. Electronic medical records are not
sufficient enough to efficiently run a medical practice; therefore, other information technology is
required. Computerized provider order entry (CPOE), is another information technology that will be
implemented. Prescription errors are common causes of medical errors, which can have adverse effect
on the patient and lead to malpractice litigation against the practice. The CPOE software can be
integrated within an already established EMR system; within the CPOE, physicians are able to
prescribe

What Is The Cardiovascular System
The cardiovascular system is the system of the body which includes the circulatory system and your
heart. This system has three functions. Its first is transportation where it is responsible for pumping
blood to the organs, tissues, and cells of your body in order to transport a proper amount of oxygen
and nutrients to every cell as well as remove the carbon dioxide and waste products made by some
cells. This is done by using one of the strongest muscles and the hardest working organ in the body the
heart. Blood is pumped through this organ into the major blood vessels located at the base of the heart.
The major vessels include the vena cava, aorta, pulmonary trunk, and the pulmonary veins. Although
the heart is no bigger than the average

Comparing Poems 100 I Believe And Ars Poetry
Poetry is the expression of emotion and ideas through the use of words. Ars Poetica #100: I Believe by
Elizabeth Alexander and Poetry by Marianne Moore are two poems that illustrate how each author
feels about poetry. They both express what it is about poetry that should be valued. Although poetry
can be misunderstanding, it exemplifies much purpose.
There are many different ways the two authors show how poetry is purposeful. One way is when
Alexander says, Poetry (here I hear myself loudest) is the human voice... This line is saying poetry
allows a person to express themselves. As she speaks at her loudest, she puts emphasis on the human
voice, making it authoritative. Another way Alexander expresses the purpose of poetry is when she
says, Poetry is what you find in the dirt in the corner, over hear on the bus, God in the details... This
line shows how poetry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander positions her poem in stanzas, while Moore s is a free verse (hers does not follow a regular
pattern of rhyme.) Alexander s whole poem is symbolic. She compares poetry to many things.
Alexander defines poetry when she says, Poetry, I tell my students, is idiosyncratic. Idiosyncratic
meaning distinctive, special, or individualistic. Her repetition of using poetry is in each stanza
explains what poetry is and is not. Moore, on the other hand, uses more imagery. She uses some
metaphors and similes. Moore is also very detailed in her description of what poetry is and how
valuable good poetry can be. A simile Moore uses is, The immovable critic twitching his skin like a
horse that feels a flea... Any person will instantly think of a horse, twitching with fleas. Some
metaphors she uses are imaginary gardens with real toads in them. With this metaphor, Moore insists
that true poetry should include both imagination and reality. A line that includes much imagery is
when Moore says, The

Malcom X And Richard Wright

English 11 Many people learn to write and read with the help of a formal education. Malcom X in
Learning to Read and Richard Wright in The library Card had none of these blessings. In spite of
having great disadvantages both Malcom X and Wright became educated. Even though their journey
to literacy have some significant differences, the resemblance are evident Malcom X and Richard
Wright were incredibly resourceful and extremely self motivated during their path towards literacy.
Both of these men learned to write and read mostly on their own, and along the way, became visionary
thinkers with great influence on others. Malcom X entered prison with an eighth grade education. His
motivation towards enlightenment came from a fellow inmate Bimbi first made me feel envy of his
stock of knowledge. Bimbi had always taken charge of any conversation he was in, and I had tried to
emulate him (Malcom X.52). Along the way Malcom X got a hold of a dictionary which he
thoroughly studied and eventually copied the whole book word by word! As his word base broadened
I could for the first time pick up a book and read and now begin to understand what the book was
saying (Malcom X.53). From then and until he left prison, every free moment he had, if he was not

Rick Sanchez Characters
The first time I saw Rick and Morty was during a long night. I was really bored in bed I couldn t sleep
so I just started to go through the channels and it caught my attention. I love watching cartoons and so
from there on I started watching it for the first time. Watching Rick and Morty Rick was the cool guy.
Rick Sanchez is a cartoon character is distinguished looking, has a unique personality, and enjoys
interesting hobbies
There s lots of things to point out from Rick Sanchez but there are three fitters that are outstanding
appearances. Are is his bright blue spiky hair, that his old but a cool person and his always drooling
because his always drink and doesn t care that his drooling. When I saw Rick the thing that I was
looking at was his blue hair and that is so spiky and that not normal no one has it like that and his a
old mad to have colored hair. Then the second that that you see right away is that his always drooling
and he doesn t care that his drooling, its just there falling off his chin but Rick doesn t care is there just
dripping off his chin then. The last thing is that his old but a cool guy, when you see your grandpa ...

Specially Rick s personality his everywhere basically what I see is that Rick Sanchez is bipolar, he
could be talking to his nephew Morty from a second, he will get furious then he will show another
emotion as if he is happy. Witch I think is extraordinary because Ricks character won t ever be boring.
The other side of Rick he can be reckless and a genius at sometimes. Rick can be doing perfect then
out of know where he will start to drink and goes on his trip messing around with his family then just
be braking everything he touches. but when his fine and good to go he will bring out his genius skills
out just to prove that his smarter then everyone, that he can prove it to then and let them know that he

Integrative Bargains On Climate Change
Integrative Bargains on Climate Change Amr Morgan BUAD 656 9/30/2015 Integrative Bargains on
Climate Change Undesired climatic change necessitates the need to look for solutions to curb the trend
through planetary scale interventions. However, the major challenge is the lack of integrated, top
down bargaining strategies. To deal with this challenge, the U.S. has resulted to the use of new bottom
up methods such as building blocks and climate clubs to coordinate national climate change policies
(Victor Sabel, 2015). The bottom up approach has great uncertainty because of the feasibility and cost
of implementation of various projects. However, the approach can work smoothly with the support of
various institutions that promote joint exploration of possible solutions by public and private actors
along scaling up of successes. To make a substantive and significant deal on climate change, there is a
need to integrate various parties that focus on the issue. United Nations (UN) is one of the leading
parties in the world that make fundamental and major deals on climate change. United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the UN s arm that carries out climate
change negotiations. The UNFCCC is committed to a decarbonized the world through its commitment
to 40 70% reductions in carbon emissions by 2050 (UNFCCC, 2014). However, this can only be
achieved if all countries phase out fossil fuels and rapidly scale up the usage of

IFE AND EFE OF PEPSICO
1.1THE INTERNAL FACTORS EVALUATION (IFE) MATRIX.
The IFE matrix is a summary step in conducting an internal strategic management audit of the
PepsiCo. This strategies formulated tool is to summarize and evaluates the major strengths and
weaknesses in the functional areas of business. It also provides a basis for identifying and evaluating
relationship among those areas of a business.
Internal strength
One of the strengths that can be found in PepsiCo is in term of strong brand equity. PepsiCo has a
strong brand name in the world place and the company is well known worldwide. This company is the
best global brand in the world in terms of value of net revenue $43,251 million in the year of 2008.

As mention before, Coca cola has 47.3 percent market share in the country s cola market versus Pepsi
which hold 44.5 percent. Coca cola is also the brand known around the worlds, which are the largest
producer and distributor of ark colas in the world. Even in the current monetary crisis, the company
continues to expand and the financial position shows that Coca cola has a strong cash position in
compare to PepsiCo which the long term debt of PepsiCo is so high.
Besides that, another internal weakness of PepsiCo is overdependence on Wal Mart. Wal Mart is the
largest warehouse and supermarket. Unfortunately, more than 13% of PepsiCo business revenues
come from Wal Mart store chain. Wal Mart has a significant buyer power and can easily dictate prices
over PepsiCo leaving it with very small margins. On top, PepsiCo would lose 13% of its revenue and
competitive advantage if the company loses Wal Mart. Therefore, it can be understand that PepsiCo
depends too much on the US market. This is one of the weaknesses that PepsiCo needs to overcome as
the external factors such as inflation can also affect the company if the company cannot be
independent.
Lastly, the internal weakness of PepsiCo is that the company is facing a negative publicity. There are
doubtful practices which accused PepsiCo is using and selling tap water. However, the company
places view of mountains on its water bottle labels. The public claim that the company deceiving
people to believe it

Double Abc X Model And Suicide Risk Assessment
The Virgin Suicides relates the story of the Lisbon family and the multiple crises they face,
particularly acute suicidal risk of all five daughters. The family consists of the father, Ronald, the
mother, and five sisters, Cecilia, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, and Therese. The family experiences both major
and minor crisis events throughout the film, ultimately ending with all five daughters completing
suicide. While there were numerous individuals experiencing a crisis, the neighborhood boys, the
entire Lisbon family, and several other minor characters, this review will focus specifically on crisis
incidents that surround the mother and two daughters, Cecilia and Lux. This analysis will utilize the
Double ABC X model and suicide risk assessment.
Cecilia
Cecilia is the youngest of the Lisbon daughters, being only thirteen. She is slight, thin and plain. She
is quirky, as evident by her wearing the same wedding style dress throughout her entire appearance in
the film, as well as precocious and introverted. She is an environmentalist, as evident by her reaction
to the condemning of the tree in her front yard, her grief about the fact that a frog was added to the
endangered species list, and her overall fascination with nature discussed in her diary. Cecilia appears
alienated from her family, perhaps misunderstood because of her drastically different personality. In
regards to Cecilia s initial crisis that involves her suicide attempt, by means of exsanguination through

Iranian Revolution Pros And Cons
II The Coup and the restoration of the Shah:
In 1951, Mohammad Musaddeq became the Prime Minister of Iran. He was the first prime minister
who was not appointed by the shah, but officially elected by the public. He was a nationalist and the
founder of the political opposition party, the National Front, in Iran in 1949. He was a western
educated man who believed in democracy as the best solution in Iran. He was determined to free Iran
from external powers, and to gain economic freedom and self determination. Because he was an
important figure in the political arena, he convinced the Majlis to refuse western oil concessions, and
to limit the monarch s powers. In his own words, he says:

During early 1950 s, everything changed, and superpowers shifted. The U.S strengthened its political
relations with Iran during the years. However, they were ignoring what was really happening in Iran,
and the strong opposition to their interference and to the shah.
The Iranian Revolution of 1979 was an accumulation of misjudgments by the U.S. foreign policy
makers of Washington D.C. It resulted from U.S. intervention in Iran s internal affairs during the three
decades that preceded the revolution. It came partially as a reaction to the political relations between
Iran and the United States.
The major turning point in both countries history was the interference of the C.I.A in the coup d état of
1953 through AJAX, the operation that imposed the dictatorship of the monarch and overthrew of
what was going to be a democracy in Iran. This coup is seen as the most important action that led to
the change of Iranians perspective toward Americans. It showed to the Iranians that America is only
looking for its self interest. Therefore, they started to perceive the U.S as imperialistic and an exploiter
and no longer as a protector (from the British or the soviets)

Changes For Standard Operating Procedure Essay
Changes to standard operating procedure
Improvements in pain management have many benefits for the patient, clinician and health care
provider. Patients benefit from reduced pain, discomfort, physiological stress, delirium, morbidity, and
the facilitation of return to mobility and independence (NICE, 2011). Clinicians benefit from having
more manageable, less physiologically unstable patients, and reduced personal dis ease with patients
in pain. Health care providers will benefit from earlier discharge, more patient independence and less
morbidity, as hospital bed days, post discharge nursing and social care costs are reduced.
There is currently no standard operating procedure specifically relating the FNOF developed by
SWASFT. The most applicable clinical guideline is the Pain Management Guideline (SWASFT, 2014)
which has only one explicitly stated requirement: to perform at least one pain assessment and repeat
that assessment after each intervention. Implicit in the guideline is that every patient [should] receive
the most effective pain relief that can safely be delivered and it recommends a combination of non
pharmacological and pharmacological interventions, but falls short of setting minimum standards.
Nationally JRCALC (2013) states that analgesia should be administered as soon as clinically possible
and that splinting and immobilisation be performed.
There are several guidelines that apply to ED and although they are useful yardsticks they cannot be

Asteroid Belt Essay
The paper is an overview of dawn mission that is designed to study two large bodies in the asteroid
belt: Vesta and Ceres. The dawn mission journeys to the center of the main asteroid belt to orbit and
explore the two most massive main belt asteroids, Vesta and Ceres. Dawn aims to increase or
understanding not just of the present state of these two bodies, but also of the conditions during the
time of their formation. It attempts this through achieving a set of measurement objectives in which
the physical properties of these asteroids such as mass, slopes, size, density, and spin state are
accurately determined, and in which the mineralogical and elemental composition of the surface and
near surface material are probed. Dawn employs ion propulsion technology to enable a modestly sized
launcher to start a moderately sized spacecraft on its journey, to not only reach the two massive
asteroids but also to orbit them, descending to near the surface. They both have survived largely intact
through the collisional history of the solar system. Furthermore, evidence shows that each has ... Show

Food Safety In Health And Social Care Essay
Employers must ensure that food safety legislations are implemented and adhered to in the workplace.
Employers of food businesses or organisations must also appoint an employee or two or more people
to ensure that workers comply with Food Safety and Health and Safety legislations. In most
organisations and businesses, administration implements such policies. In care settings such as
hospitals or schools, the Health and Safety Officer creates and implements such policies. Health and

Measurement Of Esl Saudi Learners
VOT Measurement of ESL Saudi Learners English Stops /p/ and /b/

A. Introduction: Languages make meaningful words by combining sound segments depending on
rules. Children try to acquire these sounds through listening. By the time goes on, they have a
linguistics competence that helps them produce meaningful sounds. Students who learn a second
language or a foreign language face issues due to the different phonetic system of their first language
and the second language. If they have a sound in the target language is not exist in their mother

The Phonetic Inventory of Saudi Arabic Many research papers have talked about measuring stop
consonants voicing. There are many researchers put their attention on figuring out the difficulties of
pronouncing voicing and voiceless consonants by L2 learners such as (Binturki, 2008; Flege and Port,
1981; Al Saidat, 2010). The difference between voicing and voiceless consonants is the voicing that
occurs during the stop closure interval. The consonant is voiced when there is voicing, while if there is
no voicing, the consonant is voiceless. However, Lisker and Abramason (1964) do not see that
consonant stops (p, b, t, d, k, g) could be distinguished depending on a distinction feature like the
vocal cords voicing. For that reason, they proposed a distinction feature between voiced and voiceless
consonants which is Voice Onset Time (VOT). They defined VOT as the time interval between the
burst that marks release of the stop closure and the onset of quasi periodicity that reflects laryngeal
vibration (1964, 422). Since English voiceless bilabial stop /p/ is not found in Saudi Arabic, Saudi
speakers of English as a second language have two possible ways to pronounce it. First, they could not
care about the distinction feature, then they could

Skin Pigmentation Disorders
Skin pigmentation disorders are often caused by sunlight, it causes an increase in the production of
cells known as melanocytes that increase melanin in the skin, thus turning the skin darker. These dark
skin patches are known as brown spots, age spots, dark spots, sun spots and liver spots.
brown spots
Brown spots generally appear on exposed skin areas like the face, back, neck, chest, shoulders and
hands. Some of the main causes of brown spots are sun exposure, aging, and genetics. Factors like

Long And Short Term Impacts Of The Industrial Revolution
What were the short term and long term impacts of the Industrial Revolution?
From the 1780s to the mid 19th century the Industrial Revolution was at full pace. The era is
responsible for the innovative inventions that changed the world and we still rely on today along with
the environmental consequences that followed. Factories were dangerous and many workers were
discriminated, it is because of this that workplaces are safe and employees are treated and payed fairly.
The short term positives of the industrial revolution are events that have had an immediate impact on
the society at that time. Due to the introduction of factory workplaces there was a variety of factory
produced goods that were developed in great masses ensured that prices ... Show more content on

The environment is permanently damaged because of the burning of coal and fossil fuels. Coal was
the leading factor in coal making the production of iron the biggest contribution to pollution. Cities
were always dense with smog. Environmental issues we face today have been linked to the industrial
revolution. The cities and towns simply didn t have the resources to support such a large population.
Sewerage was emptied into the River Thames or onto the streets; leading to terrible hygiene and poor
health. The rise in factory produced goods put small handmade trades out of business and supported
commercialism. Most workers were completely unskilled and therefore easily replaceable; meaning

3 Yellow Popsicle Sticks
I have had many interactions like this before. In high school, I worked at a country club golf course.
The biggest part of my job was speaking to the golf members, most of whom were business
professionals. It taught me how to network with business people in a casual setting. In a professional
setting, any casual conversation is networking. This exercise was valuable because it directly
displayed that. The conversations I had with the students and alumni all felt genuine. I not only had a
pleasant experience speaking with them, but who knows where our conversation could take us. It
could lead to a job offer, a shared interest, or being put in contact with an important connection. You
never truly know who you are going to connect with. For that reason, any conversation is a chance to
network. What I find the most difficult about speaking with professionals is how casual I should be. I
am a very casual, laid back person by nature. When first meeting someone, especially in the business
world, I feel as if I am expected to act very professionally. I find it easier to make connections by
being my casual self. This is more acceptable to do around my peers, and less acceptable around older
people. I believe the group setting hindered my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel these popsicle sticks accurately reflected my style of networking. The 3 yellow sticks show my
overall approach at networking. Typically, I try to only talk when I have something important to say.
Otherwise, I value silence, because it leaves more time in between each thing I plan on saying. Also,
when others are deep in conversation, I like to turn to my neighbor and have a conversation with them.
It gives you a unique opportunity to have a one on one conversation and connect on a deeper level. I
believe this is why I received my green popsicle stick. While a conversation I wasn t involved in was
dominating the table, I turned to my neighbor and spoke with

The horrors of losing a friend, a partner, and children are a devastating blow to a person s way of life.
Captain Nemo has lost all of his family and has lost good men on the nautilus. This could be the
reason for acting childish, but some people can t usually make that connection in this time period.
They can make the connection to death, but they cannot make it on how Nemo s family s death. His
family died because of the British government and that s why Captain Nemo has a strong hatred for

Looking At The Late Antique World
Looking at the Late Antique world, writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late
Antiquity, we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited
acclamation of new growth. Brown s work covers the years 150 750 AD a period of time too often and
mistakenly labeled as the dark ages. Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he challenges what
seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquity was one of decline and fall. This was
a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the narratives of the barbarian
invasions that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were no barbarian invasions, as they
were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had already started to assimilate to
Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the fall of Rome as its capitol
moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of Brown. Where some historians see
decay, he sees growth.
Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff evoked
a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and bourgeoisie in
his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception of these terms,
nor did they have a conception of an economy). This led to and seems to continue today a debate
between modernist and primitivist. While Brown does not deal with this

Effects of Texting on Society Essay
Technological improvements make long distance communication easier than ever before. An
advantage of texting is that it allows people to send short messages to anyone in any part of the world.
Another advantage of texting is picture messaging which is a service that allows people to capture and
share valuable moments. Texting is also a major distraction for teenagers, and it can affect important
tasks such as driving. A large number of teenagers die while texting and driving at the same time.
While texting contains many advantages such as easier communication, texting can be very addicting,
compelling the user to respond regardless of the task at hand.

Texting services are everywhere and they help people who need someone to talk to. One of the most
famous answering services is called ChaCha Answers. ChaCha has a number that people can text and

abundance of resources that texting has, texting allows for extremely easy communication. The most
important part of maintaining a friendship or a relationship is communication. Texting allows
communication between people to be extremely simple. The best way to keep in contact today is
through emails and through texting. Texting is just a shortened version of emailing.
Disadvantages
Although texting allows easy communication between people, texting is something that should still be
done responsibly. MythBusters, a television show that tries to prove or bust myths, did a study on how
dangerous texting and driving is. MythBusters decided to go to the extreme and compare texting and
driving to driving while intoxicated. According to their study, texting and driving is just as bad as
driving while intoxicated ( Killer Brace Position ). My professor, Dr. Branyon, was also a victim of
how distracting texting is. He was on the way to class one day when a student who was unaware of her

Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679), an English philosopher published the work, Leviathan, which proposed
the concept of the social contract, in which societal assimilation mandates submission to authoritarian
rule, with a relinquishment of certain rights, in return for protection and aid. Hobbes offered a
foundational premise for benefits that otherwise might be absent, if not for societal constructs. John
Locke, another English philosopher published the Essay Concerning Human Understanding, which
expounded on the work of Hobbes by proposing a more integrated and ordered society. The societal
implications meant a surrender of some individual freedoms in return for a governmental structure

Cesare believed that punishment was an effective deterrent to crime, as the offender is rational and in
control of their actions and behaviors. Cesare expressed that the punishment should fit the crime and
that adjudication and punishment should be both swift and certain . He advocated for due process on
the implication of innocence until proven guilty and condemned torture on the same pretense as
torturous punishment towards self incrimination implies guilt prior to a guilty verdict by a judicial
body. His principles influenced classic criminology in the principles of punishment, due process,
rationality, and human rights. The Bill of Rights in the US constitution has several concepts
influenced, some believe, by his writings. (Cesare Beccaria, 2017)Jeremy Bentham, author of
Introduction to the Principles of Moral and Legislation , built on Cesare statement that punish should
fit the crime , by asserting that the hedonistic nature of man requires that the pain or punishment of
committing the crime outweigh the pleasure or reward obtained from committing the crime
(Schmalleger, 2010). Bentham asserted the position that human rationality and hedonistic pursuits
factored into the mentality of an individual s decision to commit a crime based on proper or extreme

Solvolysis Of T-Butyl Brromide Lab Report
Solvolysis of t Butyl Bromide: The Effect of Solvent Polarity on Reaction Rates
Katherine Lee
Georgetown University
Introduction
The solvolysis of t butyl bromide is an SN1 reaction, or a first order nucleophilic substitution reaction.
An SN1 reaction involves a nucleophilic attack on an electrophilic substrate. The reaction is SN1
because there is steric obstruction on the electrophile, bromine is a good leaving group due to its large
size and low electronegativity, a stable tertiary carbocation is formed, and a weak nucleophile is
formed. Since a strong acid, HBr, is formed as a byproduct of this reaction, SN1 dominates over E1.
The first step in an SN1 reaction is the formation of a highly reactive carbocation, in which a leaving
group is ejected. The ionization to form a carbocation is the rate limiting step of an SN1 reaction, as it
is highly endothermic and has a large activation energy. The subsequent nucleophilic attack by solvent
and deprotonation is fast and does not contribute to the rate law for the reaction. The Hammond
Postulate predicts that the transition state for any process is most similar to the higher energy species,
and is more affected by changes to the free energy of the higher energy species. Thus, the reaction rate
for the solvolysis of t butyl bromide is unimolecular and entirely dependent on the initial
concentration of t butyl bromide. Mechanism 1. The Solvolysis of t Butyl Bromide
The reaction shown above is the reaction mechanism for t butyl

Sammy s Characters In A P By John Updike
Morals are standards or beliefs that most people use for guidance in their lives and turn to when
making decisions. A person s character is composed of their set morals, so the actions many people
take are dictated by what they believe in. In the short story A P by John Updike, main character
Sammy finds himself in a situation where his authority figure took action against three teenage girls in
a way that Sammy did not believe to be right. This position was especially difficult for Sammy to be
in, due to wanting to express his own beliefs while also knowing he is not in a place of command to
request a change from his boss. While reading A P I was able to relate to Sammy on a personal level,
as I have been in a similar circumstance and felt my boss acted in ways that went against my beliefs.
Sammy and I have both exhibited impulsive acts of defiance towards higher authority figures, due to
circumstances in which we felt our integrity was being compromised in our place of work.
Sammy s strong feelings towards three girls in his store, whom he did not previously know, led him to
make a choice that affected both him and his family. Sammy believed his boss, Lengel, was in the
wrong to state the store policy of, dressing decently (378), to the three girls wearing bathing suits.
Lengel also said how the store, isn t the beach , so the girls should have their, shoulders covered (378).

Additionally, in his novel Squirrel INC., Stephen Denning states that a story can communicate a

decided that a compilation of personal stories would be the best method to communicate the values
and outcomes of the SDP, and therefore, show administrators how valuable the program is to people.
Denning further supports this idea when he states that effective companies spark change when Groups
possess analogous who we are stories, which are less about the leader s personal experiences and
attitudes and more about the joint experiences and attitudes of the people within the organization and
their shared beliefs (Denning 58). Therefore, the sections of the interviews we chose to include in the

participants activities, so as to not only let our viewers hear the benefits of the program, but also see
visual proof of how the program is a beneficial entity. Denning states that In performing the story, the
storyteller relives the story and makes it fresh as if the viewers were there at those particular, specified
moments (Denning 26). Our goal was to have our audience feel as though they were apart of each

The Pros And Cons Of Politicians
Government is said to be necessary to the existence of a civilized society but how could one survive in
a society where the Government isn t civil to a nation. They have consistently failed to keep
Bahamians safe and secure. In Bahamian society cronyism, embezzlement, scandals and corruption
have plagued our unsuccessful governments. They must be held accountable thus, circumstances like
these should result in immediate termination of any politician without exceptions.
The unfair practice by Politicians who provides employment and other favors to individuals has been
skeptic for Bahamian. It is common that once Government changes, many of the staff within the
various ministries will also. In June 2012, The Tribune reported that in less than two months in office,

Thus, eighty persons were left unemployed and eighty families affected due to the actions of the

Today is Tuesday, and we have a meet. Tuesday is the longest day of my week. After going to school

Lying In The Truman Show
The Truman Show was an odd show because the idea of the plot could potentially be in effect at this
very moment. Just like how The Matrix could also be in effect, but this show seemed very creepy to
me because of the plain lie to Truman. One thing that hits a button within me is the whole concept of
lying. I don t know if I was lied to once when I was young and how it made me feel never changed, or
if it is the idea that the truth for whatever reason can t reveal itself is such a bullshit idea. I think that
even if the truth is so bad the person still deserves to know even if not knowing would be in their best
interest. If we shelter an individual of how bad life can really be then when the time comes for them to
actually experience life first hand then it would be worse and potentially too late for them to learn.
Also, if the person or people who are lying think it would be in the best interest of the person they re
lying to, I think it is that person s right to determine what the best interest of their own life and how
they handle the situation is just as important as the bad situation is. ... Show more content on

In the novel Dancer from the Dance the author uses beauty and aesthetics in many different ways. The
author uses beauty and aesthetics in ways such as, the night life in the city, the relationships between

contributed to global agricultural productivity during the last century (Khush 2001; Duvick 2005).
This approach known as ideotype breeding involves the creation of a model plant with characteristics
that facilitate efficient photosynthesis, growth, and yield (grain and biomass)(Donald 1968; Hammer
et al. 2009). In cereals, ideotypes include erect leaves, compact stalks, large inflorescence (ear, panicle
or head), compact or loose inflorescence, and reduced height. Ideotype breeding also contributed to
increased yield potential in maize, rice, and wheat during the green revolution (Khush 2001).

However, its power is limited by population structure that causes spurious and synthetic associations.
Multi parental mapping like the nested association mapping (NAM) and multiple advanced generation
intercrosses (MAGIC) reduce the confounding effect of historical population structure and phenotypic
variation through crosses between founder lines and common founder in NAM and among founder
lines in MAGIC. The balanced allele frequencies in the NAM population also contribute to its high
mapping power. Thus, it is an efficient approach for characterizing the genetic basis of complex
agronomic traits (Bouchet et al. 2017). Given that agronomic traits have been subjected to generations
of selection, knowledge of the genetic architecture can provide insights on how selection has shaped
the evolutionary history of the traits. Evidences of the impact of selection on the evolution history of
genetic architecture have been shown in fish(Cresko et al. 2004), dogs (Boyko et al. 2010), chicken

In the novel we see Death experience both joy and sadness, he tries to find meaning in his work and
does this by distracting himself with the colors of the sky when each human being he takes dies. The
fact that Death is the narrator confuses me, I think this is because I don t understand his role in the
book and what the purpose of him being the narrator is. One conclusion I have come to is that he is an
impartial onlooker watching and reporting on all the ugliness of the Holocaust and Germany at this
time period. Maybe to remind us of the pain and suffering that was involved. Death is mainly
associated with negativity but, in the book he seems as though he has feelings, this is shown in a quote
from The Book Thief spoken by Death it kills me sometimes, how people die. And also he does
something to me, that boy. Every time. It s his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me
cry. The quote I found most intriguing though was, on many counts, taking a boy like Rudy Steiner

frightening rubble and the swelling of the sky on the night he passed away. He d have cried and turned
and smiled if only her could have seen the book thief on her hands and knees, next to his decimated
body. He d have been glad to witness her kissing his dusty, bomb hit lips. Yes, I know it. In the
darkness of my dark beating heart, I know. He d have loved it all right. You see? Even death has a
heart. This made me think that purpose of Death narrating The Book Thief reinstates the perception of
care in Death and in Dying, the novel shows us another way to perceive the idea of

thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can t relive it; and we
can hope for the future, but we don t know if there is one. (George Harrison) Although things can
come from the past, they must be put to use in the know, and although we like to plan for the future,
we need to try and make an impact now. What George Harrison is trying to say is that while it is nice
to try to set things up for the future, we need to use what was given to us from the past, to try and
better the lives of other immediately. In The Piano Lesson, by August Wilson, the piano was the object
from the past is being put to use now and his having a profound impact. The piano is very important to

Berniece carries on this tradition and polishes the piano to keep it in the best condition possible,
recognizing how hard past generations worked to make the piano into what it is today. While
explaining the piano s history and addressing the problem over who has the right to possess the piano,
Doaker says, Now, that s how all that got started and that s why we say Berniece ain t gonna sell that
piano. Cause her daddy died over it. (46) The main reason for her family history being connected to
the piano is that Berniece s father was killed in the process of regaining possession of the beloved
piano. This elevates the role of the piano in Berniece s life because it is the last thing her father had a
connection to, and since he died over it, he too must have thought it was a very important item.
Overall, Berniece recognizes that her family worked hard and made large sacrifices to get the piano to
where it is

  • 2. Biopure Case Summary Biopure Case Intro This case is on Biopure Corporation, a privately owned biopharmaceutical firm, competing in emerging field of blood substitutes with two new products: Hemopure for the human market and Oxyglobin for the animal market. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved Oxyglobin on February 5, 1998. The approval of Hemopure is not expected until late 1999 or early 2000. The company must decide whether to release Oxyglobin immediately or to wait until Hemopure has established itself in the marketplace. The key protagonist is Carl Rausch, the president and CEO of Biopure. When proposing actions or solutions, Carl will need to convince the executives of the company, including Dr. Ted Jacobs and Andrew (Andy) Write. Ted, the vice president for Human Clinical Trials, thinks Biopure should wait to release Oxyglobin. Andy, the vice president of Veterinary Products, thinks the company should release Oxyglobin immediately. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One issue is that the animal market is smaller and more price sensitive than the human market, so Oxyglobin will sell at lower prices. If Oxyglobin is released before Hemopure, it might create an unrealistic price expectation for Hemopure because the two products are very similar in physical properties and appearance. Another issue is that Biopure does not have experience releasing new products and one of its competitors in the human market, Baxter International, has the experience. A third issue is that the stakeholders of the company want the company to go public in the near future and the decision could impact the success the initial public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Electronic Medical Records ( Emr ) Information Technology Technology plays a vital role on the overall productivity of a medical practice. Electronic medical records (EMR) are commonly used by both large and small practices. They offer practices an efficient mean of storing patient data; furthermore, the government offer incentives for meaningful use of electronic medical records. Generally when it comes to implementing an EMR, it is necessary to choose the right vendor. EMRs usually fall into three vendor systems: single vendor, best of breed, and best of suite. The single vendor strategy offers the most cost effective strategy for a small single specialty practice because it combines both the administrative and clinical aspect of the practice; thus, allowing for a single contract with the vendor (Naleef, Ozcan, and DeShazo, 2012). The other two vendor strategies, while offering more flexibility, tend to require increase staffing, which may be too costly for a small practice. Electronic medical records are not sufficient enough to efficiently run a medical practice; therefore, other information technology is required. Computerized provider order entry (CPOE), is another information technology that will be implemented. Prescription errors are common causes of medical errors, which can have adverse effect on the patient and lead to malpractice litigation against the practice. The CPOE software can be integrated within an already established EMR system; within the CPOE, physicians are able to prescribe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its first is transportation where it is responsible for pumping blood to the organs, tissues, and cells of your body in order to transport a proper amount of oxygen and nutrients to every cell as well as remove the carbon dioxide and waste products made by some cells. This is done by using one of the strongest muscles and the hardest working organ in the body the heart. Blood is pumped through this organ into the major blood vessels located at the base of the heart. The major vessels include the vena cava, aorta, pulmonary trunk, and the pulmonary veins. • 5. Comparing Poems 100 I Believe And Ars Poetry Poetry is the expression of emotion and ideas through the use of words. Ars Poetica #100: I Believe by Elizabeth Alexander and Poetry by Marianne Moore are two poems that illustrate how each author feels about poetry. They both express what it is about poetry that should be valued. Although poetry can be misunderstanding, it exemplifies much purpose. There are many different ways the two authors show how poetry is purposeful. One way is when Alexander says, Poetry (here I hear myself loudest) is the human voice... This line is saying poetry allows a person to express themselves. As she speaks at her loudest, she puts emphasis on the human voice, making it authoritative. Another way Alexander expresses the purpose of poetry is when she says, Poetry is what you find in the dirt in the corner, over hear on the bus, God in the details... This line shows how poetry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexander positions her poem in stanzas, while Moore s is a free verse (hers does not follow a regular pattern of rhyme.) Alexander s whole poem is symbolic. She compares poetry to many things. Alexander defines poetry when she says, Poetry, I tell my students, is idiosyncratic. Idiosyncratic meaning distinctive, special, or individualistic. Her repetition of using poetry is in each stanza explains what poetry is and is not. Moore, on the other hand, uses more imagery. She uses some metaphors and similes. Moore is also very detailed in her description of what poetry is and how valuable good poetry can be. A simile Moore uses is, The immovable critic twitching his skin like a horse that feels a flea... Any person will instantly think of a horse, twitching with fleas. Some metaphors she uses are imaginary gardens with real toads in them. With this metaphor, Moore insists that true poetry should include both imagination and reality. A line that includes much imagery is when Moore says, The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Malcom X in Learning to Read and Richard Wright in The library Card had none of these blessings. In spite of having great disadvantages both Malcom X and Wright became educated. Even though their journey to literacy have some significant differences, the resemblance are evident Malcom X and Richard Wright were incredibly resourceful and extremely self motivated during their path towards literacy. Both of these men learned to write and read mostly on their own, and along the way, became visionary thinkers with great influence on others. Malcom X entered prison with an eighth grade education. His motivation towards enlightenment came from a fellow inmate Bimbi first made me feel envy of his stock of knowledge. Bimbi had always taken charge of any conversation he was in, and I had tried to emulate him (Malcom X.52). Along the way Malcom X got a hold of a dictionary which he thoroughly studied and eventually copied the whole book word by word! As his word base broadened I could for the first time pick up a book and read and now begin to understand what the book was saying (Malcom X.53). From then and until he left prison, every free moment he had, if he was not reading in the library, he was reading in his bunk. Even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Integrative Bargains On Climate Change Integrative Bargains on Climate Change Amr Morgan BUAD 656 9/30/2015 Integrative Bargains on Climate Change Undesired climatic change necessitates the need to look for solutions to curb the trend through planetary scale interventions. However, the major challenge is the lack of integrated, top down bargaining strategies. To deal with this challenge, the U.S. has resulted to the use of new bottom up methods such as building blocks and climate clubs to coordinate national climate change policies (Victor Sabel, 2015). The bottom up approach has great uncertainty because of the feasibility and cost of implementation of various projects. However, the approach can work smoothly with the support of various institutions that promote joint exploration of possible solutions by public and private actors along scaling up of successes. To make a substantive and significant deal on climate change, there is a need to integrate various parties that focus on the issue. United Nations (UN) is one of the leading parties in the world that make fundamental and major deals on climate change. United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the UN s arm that carries out climate change negotiations. The UNFCCC is committed to a decarbonized the world through its commitment to 40 70% reductions in carbon emissions by 2050 (UNFCCC, 2014). Clinicians benefit from having more manageable, less physiologically unstable patients, and reduced personal dis ease with patients in pain. There are many researchers put their attention on figuring out the difficulties of pronouncing voicing and voiceless consonants by L2 learners such as (Binturki, 2008; Flege and Port, 1981; Al Saidat, 2010). The difference between voicing and voiceless consonants is the voicing that occurs during the stop closure interval. The consonant is voiced when there is voicing, while if there is no voicing, the consonant is voiceless. However, Lisker and Abramason (1964) do not see that consonant stops (p, b, t, d, k, g) could be distinguished depending on a distinction feature like the vocal cords voicing. For that reason, they proposed a distinction feature between voiced and voiceless consonants which is Voice Onset Time (VOT). They defined VOT as the time interval between the burst that marks release of the stop closure and the onset of quasi periodicity that reflects laryngeal vibration (1964, 422). Looking At The Late Antique World Looking at the Late Antique world, writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late Antiquity, we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited acclamation of new growth. Brown s work covers the years 150 750 AD a period of time too often and mistakenly labeled as the dark ages. Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he challenges what seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquity was one of decline and fall. This was a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the narratives of the barbarian invasions that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were no barbarian invasions, as they were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had already started to assimilate to Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the fall of Rome as its capitol moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of Brown. Where some historians see decay, he sees growth. Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff evoked a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and bourgeoisie in his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception of these terms, nor did they have a conception of an economy). (Cesare Beccaria, 2017)Jeremy Bentham, author of Introduction to the Principles of Moral and Legislation , built on Cesare statement that punish should fit the crime , by asserting that the hedonistic nature of man requires that the pain or punishment of committing the crime outweigh the pleasure or reward obtained from committing the crime (Schmalleger, 2010). Bentham asserted the position that human rationality and hedonistic pursuits factored into the mentality of an individual s decision to commit a crime based on proper or extreme punishments to serve as a deterrent. • 28. Solvolysis Of T-Butyl Brromide Lab Report Solvolysis of t Butyl Bromide: The Effect of Solvent Polarity on Reaction Rates Katherine Lee Georgetown University Introduction The solvolysis of t butyl bromide is an SN1 reaction, or a first order nucleophilic substitution reaction. An SN1 reaction involves a nucleophilic attack on an electrophilic substrate. The reaction is SN1 because there is steric obstruction on the electrophile, bromine is a good leaving group due to its large size and low electronegativity, a stable tertiary carbocation is formed, and a weak nucleophile is formed. Since a strong acid, HBr, is formed as a byproduct of this reaction, SN1 dominates over E1. The first step in an SN1 reaction is the formation of a highly reactive carbocation, in which a leaving group is ejected. The ionization to form a carbocation is the rate limiting step of an SN1 reaction, as it is highly endothermic and has a large activation energy. The subsequent nucleophilic attack by solvent and deprotonation is fast and does not contribute to the rate law for the reaction. The Hammond Postulate predicts that the transition state for any process is most similar to the higher energy species, and is more affected by changes to the free energy of the higher energy species. Thus, the reaction rate for the solvolysis of t butyl bromide is unimolecular and entirely dependent on the initial concentration of t butyl bromide. Mechanism 1. The Solvolysis of t Butyl Bromide The reaction shown above is the reaction mechanism for t butyl ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Sammy s Characters In A P By John Updike Morals are standards or beliefs that most people use for guidance in their lives and turn to when making decisions. A person s character is composed of their set morals, so the actions many people take are dictated by what they believe in. In the short story A P by John Updike, main character Sammy finds himself in a situation where his authority figure took action against three teenage girls in a way that Sammy did not believe to be right. This position was especially difficult for Sammy to be in, due to wanting to express his own beliefs while also knowing he is not in a place of command to request a change from his boss. While reading A P I was able to relate to Sammy on a personal level, as I have been in a similar circumstance and felt my boss acted in ways that went against my beliefs. Sammy and I have both exhibited impulsive acts of defiance towards higher authority figures, due to circumstances in which we felt our integrity was being compromised in our place of work. Sammy s strong feelings towards three girls in his store, whom he did not previously know, led him to make a choice that affected both him and his family. Sammy believed his boss, Lengel, was in the wrong to state the store policy of, dressing decently (378), to the three girls wearing bathing suits. Lengel also said how the store, isn t the beach , so the girls should have their, shoulders covered (378). Sammy felt that Lengel was rude while talking to the girls and stated that Lengel, ... Also, a personal story can communicate who you are as an entity (54). We decided that a compilation of personal stories would be the best method to communicate the values and outcomes of the SDP, and therefore, show administrators how valuable the program is to people. Denning further supports this idea when he states that effective companies spark change when Groups possess analogous who we are stories, which are less about the leader s personal experiences and attitudes and more about the joint experiences and attitudes of the people within the organization and their shared beliefs (Denning 58). Therefore, the sections of the interviews we chose to include in the video help paint a picture of the organization as a whole. Also, we added in a few photos of the participants activities, so as to not only let our viewers hear the benefits of the program, but also see visual proof of how the program is a beneficial entity. Denning states that In performing the story, the storyteller relives the story and makes it fresh as if the viewers were there at those particular, specified moments (Denning 26). This approach known as ideotype breeding involves the creation of a model plant with characteristics that facilitate efficient photosynthesis, growth, and yield (grain and biomass)(Donald 1968; Hammer et al. 2009). In cereals, ideotypes include erect leaves, compact stalks, large inflorescence (ear, panicle or head), compact or loose inflorescence, and reduced height. Ideotype breeding also contributed to increased yield potential in maize, rice, and wheat during the green revolution (Khush 2001). Increased grain yield in U.S corn has been attributed to adaptation of maize hybrids to high planting densities through erect leaves (Duvick 2005; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, its power is limited by population structure that causes spurious and synthetic associations. Multi parental mapping like the nested association mapping (NAM) and multiple advanced generation intercrosses (MAGIC) reduce the confounding effect of historical population structure and phenotypic variation through crosses between founder lines and common founder in NAM and among founder lines in MAGIC. The balanced allele frequencies in the NAM population also contribute to its high mapping power. Thus, it is an efficient approach for characterizing the genetic basis of complex agronomic traits (Bouchet et al. 2017). Given that agronomic traits have been subjected to generations of selection, knowledge of the genetic architecture can provide insights on how selection has shaped the evolutionary history of the traits. Evidences of the impact of selection on the evolution history of genetic architecture have been shown in fish(Cresko et al. 2004), dogs (Boyko et al. 2010), chicken (Carlborg et al. 2006), maize (Doebley 2004; Brown et al. 2011) and rice (McCouch et al. 2004; Ishii et al. 2013). The fact that Death is the narrator confuses me, I think this is because I don t understand his role in the book and what the purpose of him being the narrator is. One conclusion I have come to is that he is an impartial onlooker watching and reporting on all the ugliness of the Holocaust and Germany at this time period. Maybe to remind us of the pain and suffering that was involved. Death is mainly associated with negativity but, in the book he seems as though he has feelings, this is shown in a quote from The Book Thief spoken by Death it kills me sometimes, how people die. And also he does something to me, that boy. Every time. It s his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me cry. The quote I found most intriguing though was, on many counts, taking a boy like Rudy Steiner was robbery so much life, so much to live for yet somehow, I m certain he would have loved to see the frightening rubble and the swelling of the sky on the night he passed away. He d have cried and turned and smiled if only her could have seen the book thief on her hands and knees, next to his decimated body. He d have been glad to witness her kissing his dusty, bomb hit lips. Yes, I know it. In the darkness of my dark beating heart, I know. He d have loved it all right. You see? Even death has a heart.
