Judicial Diversity And Constitutional Interpretation
Judicial Diversity and Constitutional Interpretation
In David Kenny s article Merit, Diversity, and Interpretive Communities: The (non party) Politics of
Judicial Appointments and Constitutional Adjudication he argues that judicial diversity may result in a
broader interpretation of the Constitution. Kenny s article analysed the political nature of judicial
appointment and the impact it may have on Constitutional interpretation. Furthermore, the Kenny
argues that if the interpretive community of judging was more diverse, it would eventually lead to
more interpretations of the Constitution. I agree with Kenny s view, for example, if diversity among
the judiciary is lacking it is probable that ideas and perspectives will remain narrow within the
interpretive community. As a result, this paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular, life experiences fundamentally add to our development as human beings regardless of
cultural, educational and intellectual backgrounds. Moreover, which background one comes from is
irrelevant in the context of human development in relation to life experiences. For this reason, to
exclude this value from judicial appointment would be a mistake. As Schlag, comments Values are
regulative to the extent that they control or at least influence outcomes . What is more, a person s life
experience can be immensely beneficial in all walks of life including judicial appointment.
Consequently, to have a homogenous group in such an authoritative position, one must consider, is it
wrong to expect diversity within that group? Certainly, one must agree that fundamental training is
required for one to become a judge, however, not to the exclusion of life experience. Furthermore, in
my opinion the Constitution is a living thing and judicial diversity whether it is through political
appointment or not, is imperative for the development of constitutional

Section D: Analysis
This paper is answering to the question: to what extent did the left wing political opposition lead to the
Spanish Civil War, 1936 1939? There are many factors that influenced and that caused the Spanish
Civil War breakout, however this essay is focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically: the role of
the Spanish Army, the role of the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies.
The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain s imperial past. It
was likely to be compared as the protector of the nation. The Spanish army had already intervened
before in politics several times, the last one in 1936, breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal on
the working class, since they were very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with
very high taxes. They were more likely to be related to the middle high class, and therefore even more
unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the Spanish Army was
just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front was selected, the middle high
class already planned a military offensive against the leftists ideologies.
The second factor discussed is the role of the Church. The Church, as always has been,

Questions On Securing Wireless Client Devices
5. Securing Wireless Client Devices
Two major threats to wireless client devices are (1) loss or theft, and (2) compromise. Many of us
store our confidential and proprietary information in our Laptops and PDAs, loss or theft of such kind
of devices may cause the organization to be in violation of privacy regulations involving the
disclosure of personal identifying information it has collected from third parties. Another threat to
wireless client devices is that they can be compromised so that an attacker can access sensitive
information stored on the device or use it to obtain unauthorized access to other system resources.

The user has to turn off the broadcast the information if the user is not present. Hackers can use
identifier broadcasting to home in on vulnerable wireless networks. Disable the identifier broadcasting
mechanism if your wireless router allows it.
6.4 Change the identifier on your router from the default
By default the router comes with standard ID assigned by the manufacture of the hardware of the
router. Suppose even if the router is not broadcasting the SSID the hackers can compromise the
network by using the default IDs and can access the network. So try to change the SSID to something
which you can remember easily and configure your computer to connect to it. Use a password which
is alphanumeric which cannot be easier for the hacker to break.
6.5 Change your router s pre set password for administration
Like changing the identifier of the router we have to change the default password of the router, which
allows us to setup and configure the router. Hackers can easily guess the default password and able to
compromise the system. The tougher the password, the harder it ll be for the hacker to crack it.
6.6 Allow only specific computers to access your wireless network
Computers can able to communicate with any network with a unique Media Access Control (MAC)
address. The routers have a mechanism to allow or connect only the devices which have a particular
MAC address. Some hackers can also spoof MAC address.

Manhattan Country Club Job Analysis
For our final team project our group has decided to analyze and look at a Food and Beverage Manager
at the Manhattan Country Club. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics in 2014 there were
305,000 Food and Beverage Managers that made an average salary of $48,690 per year. Some of the
important duties of the job we found were overseeing employees to hire, fire, and train them. They
need to ensure employees are complying with health/food safety rules. It is also important for Food
and Beverage Managers to take food and beverage complaints and handle them properly. They also
need to schedule staff and assign duties and responsible to each person. A big part of any job is also
dealing with budgets and managing payroll. This job entails ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If we are looking to fill the position of a Food and Beverage Manager it would be particularly smart to
recruit from the inside. We think it would be in the company s best interest to recruit from the inside
because in the restaurant industry is hard to get thrown into the environment and dynamic when you
are on the outside. When recruiting internally it is easiest to let employees know there is a job opening
by word of mouth. We think it is important to send a notice out to all employees to ensure they all
have a fair opportunity to apply for the position if they feel fit. This is a good idea to recruit internally
because it shows everyone inside the company that they can move forward and advance if they meet
the standards. It would be typical for an assistant manager to advance into the position of an active
manager. When we are recruiting internally it is important to keep employees feelings in check.
Jealousy could arise and it has to be clear that everyone has a chance to apply for the position, but not
everyone is as qualified as we need them to be. Some of the criteria we need for this position is
experience, problem solving skills, and knowledge of profit and loss statements. ServSafe
certifications with alcohol and food safety would be helpful. It is also important to be educated with
CPR. Among safety concerns it is important to have physical qualifications for the job. These
qualifications include being able to lift at least 50 pounds, and being able to be on feet for around 12
or more hours a day. This job can be very demanding at times. It might be unusual for some of these
physical demands, but since we are dealing with a smaller staff sometimes situations arise where help
isn t always going to be available. Our group went to the Manhattan Country Club to interview our
Food and Beverage Manager to get a list of qualifications needed to fit the job description and

The Biopsychosocial Model Essay
INTRODUCTION Don t treat the disease, treat the patient [9]. The concept of health has seemed to
become complex in definition over the centuries as science improves. Health is a complete state of
physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity. World
Health Definition of Health (1948) [9] In order to understand health, different models or frameworks
for thinking have been developed which have been useful. The Biomedical model which evolved since
the 19th century from Galen s (Greek physician 200AD) concept of pathogen, focused on removing
the disease/disability and not on prevention or general well being [9]. The Biopsychosocial model
however, doesn t merely focus on the physical state of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is reductionist because it reduces illness to low level processes such as chemical imbalances,
pathogens, genetic predispositions and disorders. According to this model, individuals are not
responsible for illnesses caused by factors beyond their control and treatment should include
vaccination, surgery and the like which all aim to remove the cause of the illness. In this model of
practice, an individual can either be healthy or ill because there is no continuum. That a psychological
disorder can lead to an illness but there is no in between. The biomedical view thus identifies
treatment of various parts with the ultimate goal of a cure. If success in this model is defined as a cure,
death is defined as ultimate failure, to be avoided at all cost. Patients whose diseases cannot be cured
are deemed as incurable . [7] The Biopsychosocial (BPS) model greatly differs because while the
biomedical answers the main question why do people get sick? the BPS also answers the question why
else do people get sick? [9] According to the BPS model, the human being is complex and must be
understood as a whole. That there is a relationship between body, mind and environment and that one
aspect affects the others. Health and illness are caused by multiple factors and have multiple effects,

Exchange Theory In Mate Selection
The Role of Exchange and Rational Choice Theory in Mate Selection
Zenobia C. Wright
Florida A M University
Abstract
The goal of this paper is to give readers a better understanding of the Exchange Theory, as well as
Rational Choice Theory. To do this, we demonstrate how the typical scenario of mate selection for a
romantic relationship in today s society involves trading things one may personally value for
something that they feel is of equal value that the other person in the relationship possesses. We will
pay particular attention to the connection of exchange theory in interracial relationships between
blacks and whites. This is what we call the Exchange Theory. While also seeking to select a mate, in
our minds, we calculate the things that we like and dislike about the person. Although subconsciously
done, we are constantly making a list of pros and cons of things we value and object in the other
person. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is Exchange Theory? Exchange Theory is a way of thinking created for the purpose of
describing and explaining assumptions, procedures, and outcomes of social exchange. According to
Segre (2014), the focus of the Exchange theory is directed towards corresponding duty created by
social actors when exchanging resources. In simpler terms, the Exchange Theory asserts that people s
behaviors and the choices that they make are all made for the purpose of and intent to achieve a
desired personal goal while also maximizing or making the most out of that opportunity for
themselves. George C. Homans developed the Exchange Theory in his work Social Behavior as
Exchange . Here, Homans attempted to explain the relationship between actors who are in direct
contact with one another (Cook Whitmeyer,

Queen Victoria
Queen Victoria reigned England for sixty three years, thus making her the longest reigning monarch to
this day. In a monarchy, the crown is passed down to the closest living relative in a family. When
Victoria s uncle, William IV, passed away, Victoria became queen at the young age of 18. Queen
Victoria s reign is considered as epic. Similar to many epic heroes, Victoria the Queen influenced
culture. The VIctorian Era was named for her during her reign on England. During her reign, England
went through many advancements; technology, sciences, bridges, underground sewers, railways for
buildings, and literary augmentations. Queen Victoria was sheltered from many works of literature for

Victoria has a condition where the ability of blood to clot is reduced severely, also known as
hemophilia. During her marriage to Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg, who also happened to be her
cousin, she gave birth to eight children. With hemophilia being a genetic disorder, all eight of her
children were diagnosed with this condition. About nine years after Prince Albert and Queen Victoria s
eighth child was born, Albert passed away from Crohn s disease. For forty years, from her husband s
death to her own, she raised eight children on her own and she reigned over a country. Fame and
fortune were very popular during Queen Victoria s reign, just like these factors were popular in
characteristics of epic stories. Being queen, Victoria had to be a role model for the civilians in
England. When she fell in love with a Scotsman, John Brown, she had to hide her love. If Queen
Victoria had made this relationship public, her popularity would rise, but in a negative way. When
Odysseus yelled out his name, parental ancestry, and homeland, he took a risk. Fame determines a lot

Voting Behavior Essay
Less than 50% of eligible voters will turn out to vote at national elections, and at the local elections
there are less than 25%. There is a correlation between voting behavior and the demographic of those
voting.
Typically, people ages 30 to 65 have been the most likely to vote in the past years. This is in great
cause due to this age group being the most politically active. People in this group are more likely to
have established homes, steady jobs, and part of the community. They have stronger incentives to be
involved in what can affect their lives.
Younger people ages 18 24 have been less likely to vote in the past due to lack of interest, money, or
time to go. Also, they just had a lack of information so they just didn t care to have ... Show more

Women have exceeded the turnout rate of men in presidential elections since 1986. They believe that
this is due to the prominence of issues important to women, such as abortion, education, and child
welfare.
When it comes to race we have come a long way for voting rights. Since the voting barriers have been
eliminated the African American citizens vote at least as often as white citizens with the same
economic status. African Americans are more involved in politics than other minorities in the US and
have the highest level of voter registration and participation. The Latinos only average about 49% of
eligible voters to vote. One of the big problems for them is the language barrier, but with the Latino
population increasing there is a rise of Spanish campaigning being done alongside the English.
Religion is a big motivator for whether or not people are voting. When there are big issues on trial that
go against your beliefs there is a greater desire for you to voice your opinions and be heard. Voters that
identify with Christian rights have a higher turnout rate and vote more frequently since there is almost
always a religious issue up for

Leadership Theory, Transformational, And Transactional Theory
Leadership Theories

Introduction
There are a few leadership theories, but for this research I will only focus on four of these theories.
The theories that will be discussed are Situational leadership theory, Contingency theory,
Transformational, and Transactional theory. The theory Transformational is pondered by several to be
the theory improvement for transactional leadership theory, and it appears to have a cumulative
number of research studies that are supporting the benefits of this theory. Because, in an ever changing
organization, there are many who suggest that maybe transactional and transformational ... Show more

This theory states that neither a transformational leadership model, nor a transactional model of
leadership is going to work all the time and in all situations.
Therefore, the philosophy of a leader should be flexible enough to adapt to situations and changing
times, and we will have to use a combination of transformational and transactional leadership
techniques to get the job done ( Pros and Cons of , n.d., para. 9). The rudimentary idea behind
Situational theory is that we need to adapt our strategy to the changing of conditions.
Contingency theory
The contingency theory is a theory that states that to be an effective leader we should rely on not only
on the style of leading but, on the control over a situation, so there needs to be a good leader member
relations ( Fiedler s Contingency Theory , n.d., para. 3), and must have a task in mind with a clear
procedure and goals, and the skill for rewards and punishments when needed. If these are not in the
right combination and context in any way will result in failure for the leader. This theory in general
state that effectiveness will depend on the nature of the task, situation, leader s personality, make up of
the group being led, and the factors involved.
Transformational theory
To use the transformational leadership theory, we need to understand what it is. Transformational
leadership theory is the process that

Stonehenge Essay
There are few ancient structures in the world that captivate the imagination and the critical mind of
both the scholarly and ordinary individual as Stonehenge. This intriguingly mysterious Neolithic
monument is located near Amesbury in Wiltshire, England and draws thousands of spectators to its
arena each year.
The oldest part of Stonehenge, called Stonehenge I (constructed ca. 3100 BCE), consists of little more
than a circular ditch dug in the soil of the Salisbury plain, with the excess soil piled up to make an
embankment approximately six feet tall. This area is approximately three hundred thirty feet in
diameter, and encompasses Stonehenge proper the familiar circles of massive stones that once stood ...

The who s, how s, and why s behind this majestic monument are based on many (usually conflicting)
myths, guesstimates, and theories. As a result, we have no definite answers for the probing questions
about Stonehenge s existence. However, each theory grants the Neolithic monument its character and
mystique, as well as society s best guesses as to its true origin and purpose. Therefore, I shall proceed
to discuss both the fantastical and probable theories behind the mystery of Stonehenge.
In 1963, British astronomer Gerald Hawkins published an article in Nature, followed by a book,
Stonehenge Decoded, and proposed a hypothesis for at least one purpose of this ancient monument.
Standing in the center of Stonehenge, Hawkins recognized twenty four lines of sight amongst the
stones, and later discovered that these lines pointed to significant astronomical events. The most
famous of these are the alignments that point to the spot on the horizon on which the sun rises on the
summer and winter solstices; but there were many lines pointing to the rising and setting of the full
moon near to those dates as well. Hawkins discovered that Stonehenge was not only a religious site,
but also an astronomical observatory and calendar. Stonehenge was a device by which the builders
could tell, on an annual basis, when Earth arrived at a certain point in its orbit around the sun. (Trefil

Reasons For The Cuban Missile Crisis
During 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union were in conflict due to the Soviet Union placing
missiles in Cuba, known today as the Cuban missile crisis. In attempt to avoid nuclear conflict and
force the removal of the missiles, Kennedy was faced with three options; to bomb the missile sites
and/or conduct both sea and airborne landings, or blockade the island and reassure the removal of the
missiles. Kennedy decided to blockade Cuba as it was the only option that would result in the removal
of the missiles without it escalating to war. The Cuban missile crisis was the closest the Cold War was

Kennedy had three options: To bomb the missile sites, to bomb the sites and conduct both sea and

first, Kennedy was enraged and wanted to attack the missile sites, but the issue was whether to let
Khrushchev and Castro know his plan. If he had let them know, the Soviet Union could have
responded earlier by striking against Berlin or their bases in Turkey. However, if it would be a surprise
attack many people would be killed, equalling to further conflict. Kennedy reasoned it would not be a
good idea due to the fact it was impulsive and the consequences would be drastic. The Joints Chiefs of
Staff added that a surprise air strike would lead to an invasion.Although the air strike proposal was
done for, the Joints Chief of Staff argued against the blockade debating that it would be inefficient and
useless. Not only did they mention that the blockade would not remove the missiles for the simple fact
that they were already there, but they also pointed out that doing so would cause the Soviet Union to
do it also. Forcing the removal of the missiles would mean the United States would have to remove
their missiles surrounding the Soviet Union too, or so they thought. Although a blockade had its cons,
it was the safer way to go and would cause less extreme consequences according to Secretary
McNamara and Robert F. Kennedy. These three proposals all had their cons; Some more than others,

DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF ORODISPERSIBLE
TABLETS OF HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE USING NATURAL DISINTEGRANTS
1) Project Initiation
Introduction
The main concept of the project is to design an oral dispersible tablets by using naturally disintegrates.
Oral dosage form is one of the oldest form of the dosage system which is used by our ancestors for
treatment of many diseases, the bio availability of the drug is high and it is mostly taken with the food
and water, it is also a very safe mode of administration when compared to other forms.
The main reason for using natural disintegrates are 1) they are obtained naturally from plants, 2) they
are less in cost, 3) they have no very less side effects when compared to synthetic and semi synthetic
agents.Since the oral route of administration is most effective and can be easily administrated without
any need of others, the drug becomes effective to the body immediately after 4 to 5 minutes of
administration of the drug through orally.
For the successful formulation of a drug one need to understand the basic frameworks of developing a
drug, those are physicochemical, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drug. These are the
main functions that one need to understand before formulating a drug, and one also needs to know how
the body reacts to the given formulations of the drug. The anatomic and physical characteristics of

The Neurological and Behavioral Changes Associated with Learning Music as a Child
Some would argue that humans are intrinsically wired to produce music. As an infant, the sounds
children make while learning language mimic the tonal shape of language. Parents also tend to use
exaggerated highs and lows in their voices much like a simple melody to prepare and help develop the
infant s capacity to learn language. It has also been found that the neural networks used in language
acquisition are very similar to those used in music acquisition (Mithen 2006). Language acquisition
and development is imperative for an individual to survive, and if training the brain with music can
strengthen those networks, this is a subject of great importance. Since the 1940s doctors have
recognized the impacts of music on the behavior of patients with mental disabilities, and from this
discovery, the effects of music on a regular developing brain became a subject of great interest.
Researchers recognized that there was potentially an opportunity to increase brain development in
children resulting in discernable enhancements of skills into adulthood (Reschke Hernandez, 2011). It
is now known that childhood music education improves skills required for playing music, namely
motor functioning, auditory discrimination, and long and short term recall. These skills, learned
through music instruction, transfer to non musical skills such as verbal

Napoleon Bonaparte Essay
Napoleon Bonaparte
Corsica is a rugged island in the Mediterranean, which lies sixty miles off the coast of Italy. The
Corsicans are proud and independent people. In 1768, when the French took over the island from
Genoa, an Italian state, the Corsicans rebelled and fought for their freedom. But they were
unsuccessful. Their leader, Pasquale Paoli, was driven into exile.
Several months later, on August 15, 1769, Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio, a major port on
the island. He was the second born son of the family. His real name was Napoleone Buonaparte, but as
a young man, he decided to give his name a French spelling. He did this because he had his mind set

the ground. Jumping on him, Napoleon pummeled him with his fists until the boy gave up; then
Napoleon let him go. As the years at Brienne went by, he slowly gained the respect of his fellow
students.
Napoleon s mother was left penniless, with eight children to take care of. Napoleon decided to earn his
military commission as quickly as possible so that he could start helping her out financially. Working
day and night, he completed the courses at the Military College within the year, though the program
usually took two to three years.
At sixteen he graduated with the rank of lieutenant and was assigned to an artillery unit. Napoleon had
specialized in artillery at the Military College, because he understood its importance in warfare and
wanted to learn how cannons could most effectively be used in battles.
During the next few years he devoted himself to reading about military science, history, and political
theory. Napoleon was garrisoned in various cities in France, but he also spent much of his time in
Corsica. When he was on military duty he often worked from four o clock in the morning until ten at
night.

Persuasive Essay On Why Should We Use Animals In Circus
Did you remember those days when you were so excited to hear there was a circus stopping by your
town? Did you impatiently wait for the animals to come up in circus and to amaze you with those
performances? If yes was your answer, you were definitely not alone. There were 330 other people out
of 550 respondents who enjoyed the animal performances best, as to compare with human ones.
However, recently part of the world had been shocked with the video footage of animals cruelty in an

Feelings of terrify if they do not perform well and anxiety of the awaiting punishments are those that
motivate them to act. These feelings are basically created by regular excessive trainings.
Tools, including bull hook, electric pads, metal rods, and drugs, are used simultaneously in the
training sessions. Elephants, despite their thick skins, are very sensitive in several parts, particularly
under their chins, behind their ears, and around their eyes. Trainers would use these weaknesses,
striking them with pointed bull hook, as their aces to control the elephants. Teeth of the animals are
plunged with hammer, reducing the risks of trainers being bitten and make them more manageable.
Drugs are injected and given to some of the animals, particularly to alter their moods and to stabilize
them in desirable conditions. Carry forward with the effects of the training, animals are exposed to
some effects, both physiologically and psychologically. On physiological effects, each of the animals

However, circuses train animals in similar ways, compelling them to live and travel under same
conditions. In addition, the intense heat during the summer and freezing cold during the winter induce
animals to die when they travel from one city to another. The poor ventilation inside the cage also

Palladio s Influence On America
Prior to writing his four published book on architecture Palladio had written two different books that
was based on architecture. These books were published in 1554 in Rome while he was visiting
Daniele Barbaro. Essentially the purpose of the books was to serve as guidebooks for historical
monuments within Rome. The first book he had written contained short descriptions for travelers that
discussed the appearance and history of classical ruins. His guidebook was actually a replacement for
an older medieval guidebook, which focused more on the mythical side of Rome. Palladio s book
stood out because he pertained more to factual information rather than fictional. Many people, who
were visiting Rome, bought the first book because they found it ... Show more content on

His design features such as porticos, classical orders, and dwellings have inspired many American
architects to recreate these designs in their buildings. As previously mentioned, porticos represent the
importance of the residents and enhanced the architecture. The Frascati building in Virginia proves
that the portico served as a symbol of importance because the resident was a member of the U.S.
Supreme Court. This buildings portico is almost identical to Palladio s Villa Emo s. There are many
other buildings in America that have integrated this feature into their designs following Palladio s
principles. Nevertheless there are other modern day architects who did not follow his principles and
the porticos are unsymmetrical. Although some have failed to follow his principles there are some
buildings that portray his designs well. An example of an American building with a portico is
Whitehall. The portico is located in the central section of the building. Along with the portico the
architect of this building incorporated Corinthian columns into the design, a classical order that was

Why Tanning Should Be Banned
You may think they are just getting a nice looking tan when going to a tanning salon, but what they
actually are doing is putting their lives in danger. Around 1.6 million teenagers use tanning beds each
year; unfortunately, this could cause the development of the deadliest skin cancer. While some people
believe that they are getting a base tan, this really does not exist. Instead, their skin will slowly age
prematurely, acquire age spots and wrinkles, and in time may even develop cancer. Indoor tanning
should be banned for minors and regulated more thoroughly for adults. The first thing that many
people think is that they are going to get a base tan to help protect them from the sun while engaging
in outdoor activities such as going to the beach or sitting by the pool. What they do not know is that a
base tan protects their skin the same amount that spf 3 sunblock would. According to the U.S. surgeon

Identify and assess at least 4 factors that affect an organization s approach to attracting talent.
Market Demand/Supply for Talent:
Depending on the nature of the business, organizations will require various sets of talents (skill,
knowledge and capabilities) that contribute towards the their growth and success. Markets in general
have high supply of some talents and low of others. Based on the talent requirement of the
organization and the market in which it operates, it will have to alter its approach towards attracting
the required talent. This may involve adjusting factors like remuneration, long short term benefits,
career prospects, trainings, etc.

Crim Mapping Crime Chapter Summary
In chapter 2, Short discusses the many ways that maps have advanced over centuries. Without the
satellites and technology that we have today, maps were first created from educated guesses. Some
people thought the Earth was flat. Others believed that the universe revolved around the Earth.
Although maps have not always had the accuracy that they do today, they have still played a large role
in how we solve problems, especially when it comes to crime and public health. The latitude and
longitude on a map may be able to tell us where a neighborhood is located, but it doesn t explain much
about the area itself. Mapping crime began in France in the early 1800 s. It was first used to show
where different types of crime were occurring. Throughout the years, mapping crime has advanced,
giving law enforcement a visual of where crime occurs most frequently. These maps help detectives
and police officers to understand crime. They have learned that crime is most likely to happen far
enough from a criminal s home to not raise suspicion, but close enough that the criminals are still feels
comfortable with the area. A great example of the positive effects of ... Show more content on

that a specific area has a higher crime rate, we can increase the police presence in that area to stop the
crime before it happens. Mapping of crime and public health have helped the government and general
public learn how to improve the quality of life for the people living in that area. Mapping is not just
about knowing the latitude and longitude of a specific place, but it can help us to learn how we can

`` Yes A College Education Is Worth The Cost `` By Rodney...
In his essay, Yes a College Education is Worth the Cost, writer Rodney Smith discusses how students
of this generation don t care about receiving a great education for the future. Throughout his essay he
explains how a college education is worth the cost. He stated that people between the ages of 18 34
say they would much rather get a job and make money than spend money to go back to school to
obtain a higher degree. Smith s family grew up in Oklahoma and they viewed education as an
investment. Smith was influenced by his father s upbringing and attended college and law school just
like his father. By establishing and building his case about how education is worth the cost, uses a
great deal of evidence, his argument is well organized, and he gains the audience s attention.
Background of the author
The organization of Smith argument was well structured. Smith begins his argument by imagining a
student getting a worthless degree and realizing that the degree he got won t repay the loan debt (29).
He then uses one type of persuasion, logos. He uses logos in the beginning to show the percentages of
going and not going to college can affect your future. In addition, the data illustrates the percentage of
people who have a certain degree and how much money the degree will earn them (29). After that, he
explains thoroughly why college education is worth the money. Smith uses pathos to emotionally
connect to his audience when he tells his story about when he was a president at

Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In Roger Fisher and William Ury
________________________________________ Roger Fisher and William Ury, Getting to Yes:
Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In, (New York: Penguin Books, 1983). In this classic text,
Fisher and Ury describe their four principles for effective negotiation. They also describe three
common obstacles to negotiation and discuss ways to overcome those obstacles. Fisher and Ury
explain that a good agreement is one which is wise and efficient, and which improves the parties
relationship. Wise agreements satisfy the parties interests and are fair and lasting. The authors goal is
to develop a method for reaching good agreements. Negotiations often take the ... Show more content

Negotiators may not be speaking to each other, but may simply be grandstanding for their respective
constituencies. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be planning their own
responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening, misunderstandings may
occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active listening. The listeners should give
the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the speaker s points to confirm their
understanding. It is important to remember that understanding the other s case does not mean agreeing
with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the other parties and keep focused on what they are
trying to communicate. Each side should avoid blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about
themselves. Generally the best way to deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising.
People problems are less likely to come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each
other as partners in negotiation rather than as adversaries. Focus on Interests Good agreements focus
on the parties interests, rather than their positions. As Fisher and Ury explain, Your position is
something you have decided upon. Your interests are what caused you to so decide. [p. 42] Defining a
problem in terms of positions means that at least one party will lose the dispute. When a problem is

Freud was the first to use the word to characterize certain character traits. He got the word from the

Freud suggests that all of us have a bit of self love, but when self love goes extreme it can be a

Reducing Disparities In Health Care
Reducing disparities in health and healthcare have been of importance for many federal, state, private
and nonprofit organizations for many years. Countless research studies have been done and continue
to be conducted to understand the dynamics of health/healthcare disparities and how other factors play
a role in widening the gap in health outcomes, disease burden, and mortality among different
populations in the United States. Included in the conversation about disparities seen within
populations and subgroups, are the concepts of equality and equity in our healthcare system.

One reason that is frequently cited when asking the question of why so many people in the U.S. don t

and death. In the U.S in 2010, there were 50 million people uninsured (Patel Rushefsky, 2014). Private

Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Analysis
September, 2015 Did Lincoln s second inaugural address give proof that his religious faith is what

shortest in history, Lincoln spoke volumes within it. The Civil War was not an easy one, and had an
astounding amount of deaths, but despite the ups and downs, Lincoln persisted relentlessly with the
importance of seeing the war through to the end. It is within his second inaugural speech that we can

end, he states, Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily

The Effects Of Psychological Techniques On Innocent...
FALSE CONFESSIONS The majority of people find it hard to believe that an individual who is
innocent would confess to a serious crime that they did not commit. However, empirical data has now
revealed that many innocent defendants have been convicted on the basis of their false confessions
(White, 2003). The following section will analyze false confessions and how they happen. This
section will examine the characteristics of a defendant that may alter a confession, and then go on to
looking at the circumstances of the interrogation.
In the majority of false confession cases, police did not extract the confession by employing torture
techniques. However, the effects of psychological techniques on innocent defendants may have been
underestimated in the past. There are many contributing factors that lead to the admission of false
confessions. The system must consider these factors when determining if a confession is legitimate.
Mental health is one of the major factors one must consider when looking at a confession. Mentally
handicapped defendants are far more susceptible to respond to suggestive police interrogations with
false confessions (White, 2003). To provide an adequate defense, a lawyer should access a defendant s

Health Disparities Among Homeless Women And Their Children
Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children

Cohort C Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children
Health care disparities is known for its vulnerability among low income and minority status
populations. Of most concern are the vulnerable population subgroups known by the harsh
environments in which they live, their endangered and unhealthy life styles and the illnesses and
injuries that afflict them. These subpopulations include refugees and immigrants, people living with
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), alcohol and substance abusers, high risk mothers and
infants, victims of family or other violence, and the chronically ill (Teruya, Longshore, Andersen,
Arangua, Nyamathi, Leake Gelberg, 2010, p.1). Among these vulnerable sub populations, one with
some of the greatest health and health care disparities, is the homeless especially homeless women and
their children (Teruya et al., 2010, p.1).
People often think that homelessness only affects men and women but in reality homelessness also
affects families It is estimated that 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness every year. Among
this group, 17 percent are single women and 30 percent are families with children (Finfgeld Connet,
2010, p.1). It is said that women along with their children are among the fastest growing homeless
population and not only does it impact women but it also impacts their children significantly.

Walt Disney Controversy
Walt Disney was well known for being a patriarch in the animation industry. His employees,
numbering 800+, were the most experienced and well paid in the whole field. Just less than a decade
earlier, Walt and his studio had struck gold with the success of the first ever full length animated
feature film, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. The film had become, at the time, the most
successful sound movie ever. Walt had decided to take a large sum of the profit from Snow White and
use it to finance a new animation studio located in Burbank, California the same studio that Disney
operates out of today. Profits were also used to fund new ventures into the largely undiscovered world
of animation and stereophonic sound. However, behind the curtains ... Show more content on

show up on the title cards as bouncy music played it was just Walt Disney this, A Walt Disney film

himself. After that, many, many things changed for the formerly merry, family like studio. A rigid
hierarchy system was now put into place, with the highest ranking employees at the top and the lowest
ranking workers at the bottom. Many benefits were also axed at the new studio regular employees
could no longer access the gymnasium, steam room, restaurant, and other luxuries those were now
reserved for only the highest ranking writers and animators. The animators also learned something

  • 2. Judicial Diversity And Constitutional Interpretation Judicial Diversity and Constitutional Interpretation In David Kenny s article Merit, Diversity, and Interpretive Communities: The (non party) Politics of Judicial Appointments and Constitutional Adjudication he argues that judicial diversity may result in a broader interpretation of the Constitution. Kenny s article analysed the political nature of judicial appointment and the impact it may have on Constitutional interpretation. Furthermore, the Kenny argues that if the interpretive community of judging was more diverse, it would eventually lead to more interpretations of the Constitution. I agree with Kenny s view, for example, if diversity among the judiciary is lacking it is probable that ideas and perspectives will remain narrow within the interpretive community. Values linked to origins and purpose Limitations linked to O and P Section D: Analysis This paper is answering to the question: to what extent did the left wing political opposition lead to the Spanish Civil War, 1936 1939? There are many factors that influenced and that caused the Spanish Civil War breakout, however this essay is focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically: the role of the Spanish Army, the role of the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies. The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain s imperial past. It was likely to be compared as the protector of the nation. The Spanish army had already intervened before in politics several times, the last one in 1936, breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal on the working class, since they were very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with very high taxes. They were more likely to be related to the middle high class, and therefore even more unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the Spanish Army was just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front was selected, the middle high class already planned a military offensive against the leftists ideologies. The second factor discussed is the role of the Church. We think it would be in the company s best interest to recruit from the inside because in the restaurant industry is hard to get thrown into the environment and dynamic when you are on the outside. When recruiting internally it is easiest to let employees know there is a job opening by word of mouth. We think it is important to send a notice out to all employees to ensure they all have a fair opportunity to apply for the position if they feel fit. This is a good idea to recruit internally because it shows everyone inside the company that they can move forward and advance if they meet the standards. It would be typical for an assistant manager to advance into the position of an active manager. When we are recruiting internally it is important to keep employees feelings in check. Jealousy could arise and it has to be clear that everyone has a chance to apply for the position, but not everyone is as qualified as we need them to be. Some of the criteria we need for this position is experience, problem solving skills, and knowledge of profit and loss statements. ServSafe certifications with alcohol and food safety would be helpful. It is also important to be educated with CPR. Among safety concerns it is important to have physical qualifications for the job. These qualifications include being able to lift at least 50 pounds, and being able to be on feet for around 12 or more hours a day. This job can be very demanding at times. It might be unusual for some of these physical demands, but since we are dealing with a smaller staff sometimes situations arise where help isn t always going to be available. • 6. The Biopsychosocial Model Essay INTRODUCTION Don t treat the disease, treat the patient [9]. The concept of health has seemed to become complex in definition over the centuries as science improves. Health is a complete state of physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity. World Health Definition of Health (1948) [9] In order to understand health, different models or frameworks for thinking have been developed which have been useful. The Biomedical model which evolved since the 19th century from Galen s (Greek physician 200AD) concept of pathogen, focused on removing the disease/disability and not on prevention or general well being [9]. The Biopsychosocial model however, doesn t merely focus on the physical state of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is reductionist because it reduces illness to low level processes such as chemical imbalances, pathogens, genetic predispositions and disorders. According to this model, individuals are not responsible for illnesses caused by factors beyond their control and treatment should include vaccination, surgery and the like which all aim to remove the cause of the illness. In this model of practice, an individual can either be healthy or ill because there is no continuum. That a psychological disorder can lead to an illness but there is no in between. The biomedical view thus identifies treatment of various parts with the ultimate goal of a cure. If success in this model is defined as a cure, death is defined as ultimate failure, to be avoided at all cost. Patients whose diseases cannot be cured are deemed as incurable . [7] The Biopsychosocial (BPS) model greatly differs because while the biomedical answers the main question why do people get sick? the BPS also answers the question why else do people get sick? • 8. Exchange Theory In Mate Selection The Role of Exchange and Rational Choice Theory in Mate Selection Zenobia C. Wright Florida A M University Abstract The goal of this paper is to give readers a better understanding of the Exchange Theory, as well as Rational Choice Theory. To do this, we demonstrate how the typical scenario of mate selection for a romantic relationship in today s society involves trading things one may personally value for something that they feel is of equal value that the other person in the relationship possesses. We will pay particular attention to the connection of exchange theory in interracial relationships between blacks and whites. This is what we call the Exchange Theory. While also seeking to select a mate, in our minds, we calculate the things that we like and dislike about the person. Although subconsciously done, we are constantly making a list of pros and cons of things we value and object in the other person. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a correlation between voting behavior and the demographic of those voting. Typically, people ages 30 to 65 have been the most likely to vote in the past years. This is in great cause due to this age group being the most politically active. People in this group are more likely to have established homes, steady jobs, and part of the community. Therefore, the philosophy of a leader should be flexible enough to adapt to situations and changing times, and we will have to use a combination of transformational and transactional leadership techniques to get the job done ( Pros and Cons of , n.d., para. 9). The rudimentary idea behind Situational theory is that we need to adapt our strategy to the changing of conditions. Contingency theory The contingency theory is a theory that states that to be an effective leader we should rely on not only on the style of leading but, on the control over a situation, so there needs to be a good leader member relations ( Fiedler s Contingency Theory , n.d., para. 3), and must have a task in mind with a clear procedure and goals, and the skill for rewards and punishments when needed. Therefore, I shall proceed to discuss both the fantastical and probable theories behind the mystery of Stonehenge. In 1963, British astronomer Gerald Hawkins published an article in Nature, followed by a book, Stonehenge Decoded, and proposed a hypothesis for at least one purpose of this ancient monument. Standing in the center of Stonehenge, Hawkins recognized twenty four lines of sight amongst the stones, and later discovered that these lines pointed to significant astronomical events. The most famous of these are the alignments that point to the spot on the horizon on which the sun rises on the summer and winter solstices; but there were many lines pointing to the rising and setting of the full moon near to those dates as well. Hawkins discovered that Stonehenge was not only a religious site, but also an astronomical observatory and calendar. Stonehenge was a device by which the builders could tell, on an annual basis, when Earth arrived at a certain point in its orbit around the sun. (Trefil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If he had let them know, the Soviet Union could have responded earlier by striking against Berlin or their bases in Turkey. However, if it would be a surprise attack many people would be killed, equalling to further conflict. Sarah Walker Gordon Deecker INSC 3909 December 14, 2015 The Neurological and Behavioral Changes Associated with Learning Music as a Child Some would argue that humans are intrinsically wired to produce music. As an infant, the sounds children make while learning language mimic the tonal shape of language. Parents also tend to use exaggerated highs and lows in their voices much like a simple melody to prepare and help develop the infant s capacity to learn language. It has also been found that the neural networks used in language acquisition are very similar to those used in music acquisition (Mithen 2006). Language acquisition and development is imperative for an individual to survive, and if training the brain with music can strengthen those networks, this is a subject of great importance. Since the 1940s doctors have recognized the impacts of music on the behavior of patients with mental disabilities, and from this discovery, the effects of music on a regular developing brain became a subject of great interest. Researchers recognized that there was potentially an opportunity to increase brain development in children resulting in discernable enhancements of skills into adulthood (Reschke Hernandez, 2011). It is now known that childhood music education improves skills required for playing music, namely motor functioning, auditory discrimination, and long and short term recall. Without the satellites and technology that we have today, maps were first created from educated guesses. Some people thought the Earth was flat. Others believed that the universe revolved around the Earth. Although maps have not always had the accuracy that they do today, they have still played a large role in how we solve problems, especially when it comes to crime and public health. The latitude and longitude on a map may be able to tell us where a neighborhood is located, but it doesn t explain much about the area itself. Mapping crime began in France in the early 1800 s. It was first used to show where different types of crime were occurring. Throughout the years, mapping crime has advanced, giving law enforcement a visual of where crime occurs most frequently. These maps help detectives and police officers to understand crime. In his essay, Yes a College Education is Worth the Cost, writer Rodney Smith discusses how students of this generation don t care about receiving a great education for the future. Throughout his essay he explains how a college education is worth the cost. He stated that people between the ages of 18 34 say they would much rather get a job and make money than spend money to go back to school to obtain a higher degree. Smith s family grew up in Oklahoma and they viewed education as an investment. Smith was influenced by his father s upbringing and attended college and law school just like his father. By establishing and building his case about how education is worth the cost, uses a great deal of evidence, his argument is well organized, and he gains the audience s attention. Background of the author The organization of Smith argument was well structured. Smith begins his argument by imagining a student getting a worthless degree and realizing that the degree he got won t repay the loan debt (29). He then uses one type of persuasion, logos. He uses logos in the beginning to show the percentages of going and not going to college can affect your future. In addition, the data illustrates the percentage of people who have a certain degree and how much money the degree will earn them (29). Negotiators may not be speaking to each other, but may simply be grandstanding for their respective constituencies. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be planning their own responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening, misunderstandings may occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active listening. The listeners should give the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the speaker s points to confirm their understanding. It is important to remember that understanding the other s case does not mean agreeing with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the other parties and keep focused on what they are trying to communicate. Each side should avoid blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about themselves. Generally the best way to deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising. People problems are less likely to come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each other as partners in negotiation rather than as adversaries.
