The Case of the Mexican Crazy Quilt: Linderman Industries 1. Was Linderman Industries' adoption
of project organization an appropriate one for getting the Mexican subsidiary started? 2. In
consideration of Robert Linderman's letting the division managers know the project manager would
be asking for some of their key people, why would Conway have any difficulty in getting the ones
he wanted? 3. Would you expect that many people would turn down a chance to join a project
organization, as Bert Mill did? 4. Why would Conway take his problem with the engineering vice
president to Linderman and have it resolved in his favor, yet back down in two disputes with the
manufacturing vice president? 5. What could Linderman Industries ... Show more content on

The notice, however, did not offer an insight as to which employees would be taken for the project.
Consequently, it is possible that the managers were not in a position to make necessary
arrangements to cater for the departure of their team members. The impact on the divisions were,
therefore, felt once the selection has been made thus, leading to negative reactions from the division
heads. Joining a Project Organization Would you expect that many people would turn down a
chance to join a project organization, as Bert Mill did? Most people would contend that no one
would turn down a special job opportunity when it arises. I highly support this notion and
accordingly, I would not expect people to turn down a chance to doing a project organization as
exhibited by Bert Mill. This is because such chances are rare and far between. Furthermore, the
chance of joining the project organization provides employees with an opportunity for him to
develop his experience. Project organization provides employees with an opportunity to develop
their management and planning skills (Turner, 2009). Employees are, therefore, exposed to new
skills that would be of great benefit to them in building their careers. This justification is enough to
make anyone take the position that Mill was offered in the project organization. Employees make
various considerations before making choices concerning job placements and may give various
reasons to justify their refusal of

The Last Known Transcendentalist: Eustace Conway
Eustace Conway is one of a few individuals who live a pre–modern lifestyle. He lives in the middle
of the woods, doing things his way. He is a spiritual man and views life differently than the common
man. He has studied what is now his way of life and lived it his whole adult life. There have been
others who view life that way, more so in the past compared to modern times. There have been
fewer that are as popular and famous as Eustace. The way he views life is called transcendentalism.
Unlike past transcendental icons, Eustace Conway is successful in his ways of living and
incorporates his transcendental lifestyle into everything he does. Eustace is mentally stable and
healthy, with which past transcendental icons have been questioned.
Eustace was born in South Carolina in 1961. He has been living in the woods for most of his life.
Despite what most of our society thinks he does have an educational background besides basic
school. Eustace studied at the Appalachian Trail University in North Carolina. He has degrees in
English and Anthropology. He has a strong tie to the woods, he has since a young age. At the age of
17 Eustace moved away from his parents and moved into the woods. He lived right outside of town
in the town of the University. Eustace lived that way by himself, and was and still is successful at it
today. His mindset about the woods and how he thinks about life is called transcendentalism.
Eustace has a unique lifestyle, he does his tasks his way.

Analysis Of The Movie ' Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless...
There are many movies where memory is portrayed inaccurately. In the film, Eternal Sunshine of
the Spotless Mind, memory removal was depicted through the patient reliving memories by viewing
them as if they were recorded movie. However, this does not accurately depict memory, or the
process of retrieving memories. In order to understand how memory is falsely portrayed in this film,
it is important to recognize the different types of memory, and the areas of the brain in which
memory is involved. This paper will review a scene of the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless
Mind, and will identify the misleading factors about the way memory is portrayed and
misrepresented. This paper will also discuss the important, factual details of memory, the parts of
the brain involved in memory, describe individuals with Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory
in detail and how these individuals are the closest to having perfectly accurate memories.
Introduction In psychology, memory is a hot topic for discussion, and for good reason. As humans,
most of us rely on memory for an abundant of reasons, even though most of us know that a lot of the
times our memories are altered, changed, or not what we perceive them as. We use it as a guide to
the past, even when some of us know that it is not necessarily reliable. But a good question is: how
do we review our memories? In movies, such as Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind, memories are
often portrayed as a movie,

Case Study Of Project Mexicano
Adopting the project organization for getting the Mexican subsidiary started was an appropriate
measure by Linderman Industries. Notably, starting up a new subsidiary is an exercise that would
require considerable planning, preparation and strategizing so as to ensure that the activities would
run smoothly once it was in operation (Kerzner, 2009). The kind of effort required in making this a
reality is time consuming and employees within the organization may not be able to handle the
project while performing their other normal duties. Consequently, there is bound to be high levels of
inefficiency and poor organization. The project organization, in turn, ensures that the persons
involved only concentrate on the project such that it is likely ... Show more content on

Linderman Industries was, therefore, expected to invest heavily into the project and also to ensure
that the team involved performed their duties well through constant review of the project progress
(Koteen, 1997). The case study illustrates that the project was successful. The assurance of jobs
would depend on the company's efforts. Assuring that there would be good jobs from the project
would require the company to reserve some of the positions for their members of staff once the new
subsidiary was set. This way, staff members including the project manager, Carl Conway, would be
assured good jobs. It is notable that during the project, the team members interacted with a number
of stakeholders that would be of great importance to the subsidiary. These are connections that the
company would use to ensure that the subsidiary becomes profitable in the future. Turner (2009)
notes that the organization highly requires the team members who are in a position to contribute
highly from the skills acquired during the project. Accordingly, the project team disbanding process
must, therefore, be conducted with extra caution. Turner (2009) suggests advance planning on how
resources will run down and how employees will be transferred to new jobs or returned to their old
jobs. Noting that motivation is quite important to the project team, Turner (2009) suggests that
project team members should immediately be transferred to new jobs following successful project
completion. This can only be actuated through the management's proper planning for the future.
Linderman Industries should plan their staff process in advance, giving priority to staff members
who are working with Project

Long Island Saving Bank Case Summary
The article "The Strange Case of Long Island Savings Bank – Or How a Contract Self–Destructed

CEO of Long Island Saving Bank. The article involves everything about the case such as the
misdeeds of Conway for his own benefits. Being a CEO and chairman, Conway was also a partner
in a law firm. The firm was controlled by him and his daughter. In the firm he also hired his
daughter–in–law, who was also the director of the firm and salaried officer. The article explains in
detail about the how Conway used Long Island Saving Bank and misleaded for his own law firm

Anne Conway: Platonist Ecosystem
Original passage from the "Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy". "Anne Conway's treatise is a
work of Platonist metaphysics in which she derives her system of philosophy from the existence and
attributes of God. The framework of Conway's system is a tripartite ontological hierarchy of
'species', the highest of which is God, the source of all being. Christ, or 'middle nature', links God
and the third species, called 'Creature'. God as the most perfect being is infinitely good, wise and

constant mutability of created monads constitute an obverse reflection of the unity, infinity, eternity

Argumentative Essay: The Demise Of The Trump Party
In characteristic Trump–ian fashion, the businessman turned presidential candidate– and alleged
sexual offender– doesn't give a sh*t, and his campaign is going down disgracefully at best,
according to anonymous– and named– sources from within the campaign.
The first source cited in what turns out to be a startlingly explosive piece by New York Magazine's
Gabriel Sherman on the Trump campaign's demise is none other than Trump campaign manager
Kellyanne Conway herself, the woman who has become the center of public scrutiny for a
presidential campaign marked by Donald Trump's endless disturbing behavior.
Conway reportedly told Sherman of a startling confrontation between her and her boss, one where
Trump showed just how much he actually cares about those who have flocked to his campaign in
some sort of demented hope for bettering their future.
Conway related, "I got really mad at him the other day. He said, 'I think we'll win, and if not, that's

As Sherman wrote, "Perhaps the most surprising thing to ponder at this late stage in the election is
just how close the race could have been had he taken nearly any of the advice offered to him by
advisers. 'This thing was doable if we did it the right way,' one adviser told me."
And it just doesn't end. Sherman reported on snippets of Trump campaign life from the time when
Paul Manafort was the campaign's manager, and it's hardly any better than life under Conway.
Manafort infamously came into the Trump campaign with guns blazing and aimed right at Trump's
public persona, making grandiose pronouncements that the presidential candidate would become
more "presidential" and shed some of his most disturbing character traits.
Manafort apparently counseled Trump to work to be as nonabrasive as possible, staying out of the
public spotlight so that attention could be focused on Clinton's supposed corruption.
That didn't

themes in lost horizon Essay
What is Paradise? Throughout history man has sought to create, find, or at least image a paradise on
earth, a place where there is peace, harmony, and a surcease from the pain that plagues our lives. On
the eve of World War II, James Hilton imagined such a place in his best–selling novel, Lost Horizon.
The story itself begins when an evacuation of Westerners is ordered in the midst of revolution in
Baksul, India. A plane containing four passengers is hi–jacked and flown far away into the Keun–
Lun Mountains of Tibet. The plane crashes and the passengers are welcomed to the valley of the
Blue Moon, and the lamasery of Shangri–la. Here they see an isolated monastery shrouded in

Almost immediately Conway feels he is ideally suited to their way of life. He meets other lamas
who have been at Shangri–la for a long time, including Lo–Tsen, with whom he quietly falls in love
with. All the newcomers desire to stay, except for Mallinson. He and Lo–Tsen fall in love with one
another and makes plans to leave. Conway warns Mallinson not to take Lo–Tsen back with him,
knowing her extreme old age will cause her to die immediately. Mallinson doubts Conway's
knowledge of Shangri–la, which in turn leads Conway himself to doubt and eventually consent to
leave. After their departure from Shangri–la, the story is unresolved. We are lead to believe that
there was truth to the story and that Lo–Tsen rapidly ages then dies, we are never definitively told
the fates of the her, Conway and Mallinson following their departure from Shangri–la.
A theme found in Lost Horizon is the desire to leave and apparent utopia in favor of a former home,
however flawed. This is comparable to Odysseus who wanted to leave the utopian island of Kalypso
to return home to Ithaca and his wife. The British youth Mallinson is similar to Odysseus in this
respect. While Conway, Barnard and Miss Brinklow find Shangri–la a satisfying place to live,
Mallinson intensely desires to leave and return home to his family, friends, and country. The other
characters' lack of connections to the outside world causes the difference in their attitudes

The Writer 's Duty Of William Faulkner 's Nobel Prize...

English II AP
Dr. Payne
September 9 2016
The Writer's Duty In William Faulkner's Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks about the true
purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart into your work. He discusses
how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the author is dedicated to showing the authentic
love the human spirit holds and what that love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writing
will show both strength and vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be
written for the sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their
memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillard and Jill Ker Conway,
both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends to express her reasons for
writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more implicitly.
In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the meaning of the novel in
one passage that reads, "Children wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have
been here all along; is this sad? They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people
brought back from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people
and objects, equipped with a hundred skills. They know the neighborhood, they can read and write
English, they are old hands at the commonplace mysteries, and yet they feel themselves to have just

An Island Of The Pelicans ( Williams, 2016 ) Essay
Alcatraz was first discovered in 1775 by a spanish explorer, Juan Manuel del Ayala, which he named
the Island of the Pelicans (Williams, 2016). Alcatraz is now a national landmark established in the
1930's. The renowned island located in the bay of San Francisco, California. During the 1930's
crimes and gangs increased in an alarming rate due to the effects of The Great Depression
(Williams, 2016). Many crimes and gangs rose also when many laws were passed and put many
behind bars (Raaphorst, 71). Donna Raaphorst, author of "The History Of An Island Prison: From
The Development To An American Myth", states
In l932, the Threatening Communications Act and the Kidnapping Act passed. In l933, a new law
made it a federal crime to assault or kill a federal officer. The National Firearms Act, the National
Bank Robber Act, the Anti–Racketeering Act, the Fugitive Felon Act, and the National Stolen
Property Act all passed in l934. Such legislation increased the role of the federal government in
crime control (Raaphorst,71).
Many notorious criminals were incarcerated and with many attempted to escape, Alcatraz was
calling for all inmates who were too hard to handle. There were existing penitentiaries where they
had dangerous convicts who wouldn't abide to the rules and had the continuous mindset to plan an
escape (Raaphorst, 2016). The United State's government realized that something needed to change
and formed a different approach of dealing with all the felons. Alcatraz Federal

Summary Of Time And The Conways And A Dream Play
Time and the Conways (1937) and A Dream Play (1901) play with the idea of time as nonlinear.
Influenced by John William Dunne, Priestley begins to investigate his own conception of time as the
past, present, and future all happening at once. Strindberg, although he wrote A Dream Play ahead of
Dunne and Priestley, also expounds on similar ideas linking time and dreams. Dreams can free us
from viewing time's structure as fixed and linear. Therefore, both playwrights begin to make theatre
audiences aware of new ideas about how to perceive time and the use of dreams/precognitive states.
Utilizing Dunne's basic theory of non–linear time, I will talk about how we can apply this to
readings of Time and the Conways and A Dream Play to explore themes of dreams and perception of
time.
Most notable to J.B. Priestley, who was heavily influenced by this work, was John William Dunne's
"An Experiment with Time". In Dunne's work, he talks about that all time is happening at once so
that every moment is proceeding right now. However, humans experience time in linear fashion. To
comprehend time, we must clearly separate past, present, and future. Dunne also explores the theory
that only when we dream, time is no longer limited to linear concrete interpretation that we
experience in our waking hours. The idea of nonlinear time in dreams relates to Strindberg's A
Dream Play and some sections of Time and the Conways. However, Dunne was not taken seriously
by his contemporaries due to his lack

Incorporating the Metaparadigm of Nursing with the Theory...
I. Introduction The purpose of this paper is to present a personal belief about the metaparadigm of
nursing and to incorporate it into that of Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring.
II. Personal Belief on the Paradigm Every person's needs must be recognized, respected, and filled if
he or she must attain wholeness. The environment must attuned to that wholeness for healing to
occur. Healing must be total or holistic if health must be restored or maintained. And a nurse–patient
relationship is the very foundation of nursing (Conway et al 2011; Johnson, 2011). The Theory
recognizes a person's needs above all. It sets up the conducive environment to healing. It addresses
and works on the restoration and maintenance of total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
IV. Description of the Theory The Theory of Human Caring Its main concept is transpersonal human
caring, best understood within the ancillary concepts of life, illness and health (Fawcett, 2002). It
defines human life as "spiritual–mental–physical being–in–the–world," traversing continuously in
time and space. Illness is not always a disease, but can also be a state of turbulence or disharmony in
a person's inner self, whether in the conscious or unconscious level. And health is the unity and
harmony of the mind, body and the soul. Transpersonal human caring and caring transactions refer
to scientific, professional, ethical, aesthetic, creative and personalized giving and receiving
behaviors and responses between nurse and patient. These interactions allow them to experience
each other via physical, mental and spiritual paths or a combination of these paths. From these, it
can be gleaned that the precise goal of nursing is to help the patient gain a higher degree of harmony
in mind, body and soul. That harmony produces self–knowledge, self–respect, self–healing, and
self–care processes (Fawcett). The 10 Clinical Caritas These are humanistic–altruistic system of
values; faith–hope; sensitivity to oneself and others; helping–trusting and human care relationship;

Shangri-L Paradise Or Prison?
Shangri–La: Paradise or Prison? Lost Horizon by James Hilton delicately investigates the tensions
between opposing philosophical movements – Modernism and Traditionalism. Hilton deftly
demonstrates these tensions through the development of his characters: a band of misguided,
reluctant captives. On one hand, there are the Traditionalists, who support the notion that life would
be more enjoyable if society were to reinforce traditional or familiar values and lifestyles. On the
other hand, there are the Modernists, who welcome innovation and continually seek an increasingly
convenient means of living. In the perpetual battle between breaking tradition and embracing it, Lost
Horizon helps present these opposing forces using various metaphorical devices to enliven the
situational elements of character development. Shan–gri–la becomes the overarching metaphor for

The novel "The Body in the Library" is an English characterized as crime novel, written by Agatha

Conway Twity And Loretta Lynn: Music Analysis
I chose to do my album review on Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn – The Definitive Collection
(App Coll CDisc 994). Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn were one of the best–known country music
duos, with fourteen top–ten singles, five of which reached number one, and twelve hit albums.
Conway Twitty was born two counties out of the Appalachian region in Coahoma County,
Mississippi. Loretta Lynn, however, was born in Johnson County, Kentucky in the heart of
Appalachia. Conway began his music career as a "rockabilly" artist, but was redirected to his
country roots in the mid–sixties and quickly became a country balladeer. Loretta was rising to fame
around the same time and the two met in the late 1960's. Their joint career took off after their first
duet together in 1971 ("After The Fire Is Gone"). In the liner notes for this album, "After The Fire Is
Gone" was described as a "ballad tinged with bluegrass–style harmonies." The chemistry between
Loretta and Conway is played up in everything written about them as a duet, so viewings of them

The instruments used were typically the electric guitar, the drums, a tambourine, and electric bass.
Though the instruments are crucial to music, the true appeal of Conway and Loretta as a duo was
their voices and their ability to harmonize together. Even in a song such as "Letters", in which a vast
majority of the lyrics are spoken rather than sung, their voices flow together in a way that is
uncommon for typical conversation. The power behind their voices and the stories that the lyrics
told led many people to believe they had an affair together. Song lyrics such as the ones in "It's True
Love" and how they performed it, singing to each other almost, led to these assumptions.
Nonetheless, they both denied ever having an affair, attesting to only a strong

"...the horizon lifted like a curtain; time expanded and space contracted" In James Hilton's Lost

kidnapped passengers, Charles Mallinson, Miss Brinklow, and Henry Barnard. Hilton commences
his novel by utilizing the literary technique of a frame. At a dinner meeting, friends share their
insights into life, and eventually, from a neurologist, and friend of Conway, evolves the story of

Mallinson, still fuming with animosity towards the lamasery continues to make his plea to leave.
Finally, he just leaves, but with him travels Conway, for he was fond of his friend, and his friend
also took with him Lo–Tsen, the beauty he secretly loved.
Hilton's novel leaves the reader with an unsolved mystery since the mystical powers of the "slowing
of the aging process" remained only within the grounds of the lamasery. Conway soon realizes this
as Lo–Tsen ages instantaneously, and transforms into a woman "...most old of any one I have ever
seen." From here he must navigate himself back to the safety of the placid lamasery, but does he
make it?
At this Hilton returns to the frame, in which the neurologist friend of his is trying to trace Conway's
path and find this sacred civilization. The tale was only revealed since he found Conway during his
"escape" from the lamasery, and had him write the manuscript dictating his story.

In this reconstruction, personal consequentiallity is applied after an event once is importance is
measured within society. This also questions the validity and accuracy of "flashbulb memories" in
that they are memories actively reconstructed and transformed over time. Neisser & Harsch (1992)
measured flashbulb memories of the shuttle challenger explosion. They found that after one day 9
subjects claimed to have learned of the event from television, however 34 months later this figure
had risen to 19. As a further nail in the coffin for Brown and Kulik's flashbulb memory hypothesis
Christianson & Loftus (1987) found that high emotion served to narrow attention to focus to the
central aspects of an event a the expense of peripheral details. This would seem to indicate that the
idiosyncratic details associated with flashbulb memories are more reconstructive, as the periphery
surrounding an event is filled in on rehearsal. At this point it may appear that flashbulb memories
are little more than a cultural phenomenon involving an enhancement of ordinary memories and
therefore not different from them. McCloskey et al (1988) have pointed out that ordinary memories
can be accurate and long lasting due to frequent rehearsal. FMs are therefore may be ordinary

The Three Sins Of Persistence
These terms enable us to identify when and why memories might fall short. The three sins of
omission are situations that most people can relate to which just goes to show how difficult it
sometimes can be to remember the simplest of things. Each sin plays a part in both Fuller and
Conway's memoirs. There are only few places where the authors reveal a sense of uncertainty as to
whether they remember correctly or not; they both express themselves as if they remember
everything they write quite clearly. This makes the reader believe that the authors never experience
Transience, Absent–mindedness or Blocking, which might raise a red flag as no one can remember
everything. However, the authors might easily explain this by saying that they simply did not
include the minor details that they did not remember. Still, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fuller especially have several traumatic memories that obviously still cause her pain, and because
they will not go away, she can relate them more accurately. Some of Fuller's more traumatic
experiences are the attempted rape of her and her sister, the death of her younger sister, her getting
lost in the forest and the list just goes on. Conway's memories are a bit less severe, but she still lost

accurate as they seem since the involved party might build upon the event over time to better cope
with them or because of guilt. Fuller, for example, blames herself fully for the death of her younger
sister, though she can hardly be blamed. All of Schacter seven sins can give different explanations to
memories' inaccuracy, and as a reader, one has to be aware that no memory is objective as they are

Female Role In Modern Philosophy
The era of modern philosophy, with a special canalization period during the 18th and 19th centuries,
was a time of flourishing activity in terms of philosophical importance. Whether we're speaking
with relation to Cartesianism, the moral and political philosophy of Nietzsche, or another male
during the period, their philosophical ideologies still remain present and of use in multiple
presentations – from bioethics to law. Transgressing beyond the grave, the impacts of these few still
conquer, but what about the ideologies of the nameless? Continually ignored within the narrative,
one primary demographic of philosophers during the era of modern philosophy that is commonly
ignored is that of women. Although the importance of female impact on modern philosophy is
quantified as minuscule, the females of this era had achievements and impacts on the ideologies of
their predecessors and deserve recognition. Of the primary accomplishments of females within
modern philosophy, three main emphases reign most important to modernity and those are as
follows: Elisabeth of the Palatinate's influence of Cartesian dualism and Anne Viscountess Conway's
impact on the philosophy of Gottfried Leibniz. At a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the similar substance of both mind and matter, Conway suggested they only differed as to

The vitalist nature of Conway's philosophical thought was an influential reaction against the
ideology of mechanists, and although her monistic viewpoint was more giving than the dualistic
nature of Cartesianism, it was expelled as a basic reduction of all of reality to the idealist category of

Music Appreciation

Conway Twitty Conway Twitty was a famous musician from Mississippi. He performed rock and
roll and country music. He was born in Friars Point, Mississippi, in 1933. His name was Harold
Lloyd Jenkins. Conway Twitty had an interest in music at a very young age. He got his first guitar
when he was four years old. At the age of ten, he started his first band. Along with performing
music, Twitty also played baseball as a child ("Conway Twitty"). He was very talented at baseball.
He had planned on becoming a professional baseball player, but he was unable to due to being
drafted into the Army during the Korean War. When he returned from the war, he still had an open
offer to join the Philadelphia Phillies, but he decided to start a musical career instead ("Conway

number one hit, "Next in Line." In 1970, Twitty began performing duets with Loretta Lynn. Their
first duet, "After the Fire Is Gone," was released in 1971 ("Conway Twitty Bio | Conway Twitty

well together and won many awards including four Duo of the Year awards, three Vocal Group of

Examining the Views of Ethnographic Writers Essay
The ethnography of musical performance poses many complex problems to ethnomusicologists. In
exploring issues of fieldwork and representation, ethnomusicologist Michelle Kisliuk argues that,
"the focus on field ethnography is clearly essential to performance ethnography" (1997, p. 41).
Kisliuk outlines three interdependent questions, two of which I wish to examine here. Her first
question considers the concept and location of the "field" as used in fieldwork; her second examines
the language employed in ethnographic descriptions. The connection of performance ethnography
with the performance of writing presents an opportunity to examine the views of ethnographic
writers. By applying Kisliuk's argument to the ethnographic language of ... Show more content on

Fox frames Cash's song within his experience at Ann's Other Place, a bar he frequented in the course
of field research. Because the owner failed to pay ASCAP or BMI fees she was harassed for
violating the laws concerning the performance of commercial music by agents. Many of the bar's
regulars thought the idea of paying to perform a song like Folsom Prison Blues was rather ridiculous
owing to mythical status of figures like Cash.
Fox's alignment of Cash's song with the opinions of local musicians and patrons demonstrates the
connections between music and life. His informants commented that Johnny Cash wouldn't have
objected to their covers of his songs. Just as Cash positioned working–class life in resistance to
modernity, Cash became a symbol of resistance for Fox's informants. By performing "Folsom Prison
Blues", people performed the ideas within the song and extended those ideas to their own lives.
Further, Fox frequently moves from his memories of performing to analyses of particular events,
demonstrating the movement between the "intellectual and experiential" Kisliuk cites as an integral
part of ethnographic research (p. 40).
Cece Conway's study of Appalachian banjo traditions stands in contrast to Fox's highly experiential
ethnography. For Conway's language demonstrates her focus on banjo as endangered object. At the
end of her preface, Conway

Analysis of William Wordsworth's Poem We Are Seven Essay
Analysis of William Wordsworth's Poem We Are Seven
William Wordsworth's poem, We are Seven, is about a person talking to a young girl about her and
her six siblings. Throughout the poem, the narrator gave the young girl a very difficult time when
she persisted that simply because not all seven children were home together, or alive, they were still
seven. The narrator was giving the young girl a hard time because he wanted her to remember and
understand that just because she and her siblings are separated does not make them any less siblings.
Wordsworth says that two of the seven siblings are at Conway. In what way would two siblings
being far from home make them be considered not siblings? Would that not be like saying to a ...

In the poem, the little girl says, "Two of us in the church–yard lie, / My sister and my brother; (Lines
21–22)." Insisting that they are still seven, the young girl shows a lot of grace and mature
understanding. This is the majority of the poem because the narrator thinks it is most important that
the young girl understands she has still has five siblings, despite two of them have passed and, "their
graves are green, they may be seen (Line 37)." The girl is only eight years of age and she
understands that her deceased siblings are still her siblings even though they are not still living.
Making sure she understands she still has five siblings is exactly what the narrator's goal is, but the
narrator is pretending to believe they are only five. The narrator reinforces his "belief" in lines 35–
36: "If two are in the church–yard laid,/ Then ye are only five." The conversation resurfaces later in
the poem, in lines 61–64: "How many are you, then, said I,/ If they two are in heaven?/ Quick was
the little Maid's reply,/ O Master! We are seven." No matter what is said by the narrator, the eight
year old girl insists that they are seven. Two siblings being dead is the most reinforced because the
narrator and the little girl know that her siblings at Conway or at sea are anticipated to return home
sometime. The other two, the deceased two, will never return home.
The small gal lightly touches on two of her other siblings who are

Dry, sticky mouth, sleepiness, dry skin, and headache! Do you know what those are signs of?
Dehydration! "Dehydration happens when you 've lost too much water in your body without

being so busy sometimes, making sure you have an adequate amount of water a day slips your mind.
"Your body is mostly water. So even 1% difference effects you in a huge way" (Dustin Freckleton,

Man And Time By Mley Priestley Summary
Given the playing around with time in Time and the Conways, the words of Dunne profoundly
influenced J.B. Priestley. Using this knowledge, Priestley wrote his own book on time, entitled Man
and Time (1964). In this work, Priestley explained that each person has three "observers": Observer
One experiences time (and therefore, existence) as linear; Observer Two is able to catch glimpses of
the past, present, and future especially through dreams while existing in a fourth dimensional time;
Observer Three is aware of the other Observers and is ultimate (Foster, 4). Each succession of
Observer is aware of its predecessor Observer so that the Third Observer is all–knowing and
detached. What Priestley means to suggest is that on a general conscious level, we are aware of
linear time. Only when we dream, are we able to let go of the limitations of perceiving time as
linear; we are able to see time as happening all at once, being 'the whole stretch of ourselves' as Alan
described. Time is not separate moments to be categorized as past, present, or future; rather,
Observer Two breaks free from this categorization in order to perceive a 'truer version of ourselves'.
Then, Observer Three is even more omniscient than Observer two and seeks to be the most real
version of ourselves; however, we do not have general access to request Observer three. These ideas
of Priestley greatly influenced his work, especially Time and the Conways. Alan's speech at the end
of Act two to Kay is Priestley's

Good Fellas : A Classic Mafia Film
In the time where mobster business ruled the streets of New York, Good Fellas is a classic mafia
film that brings a little bit of everything to the round table; the violence, the profanity, the sex, the
drugs, and especially the money. "Forget about it!" It will have you on the edge of your seat,
entertained and desiring to see more of it. Directed by Martin Scorsese, 'Good Fellas', takes place in
the 1960's and 70's in the beautiful state of New York. Mobsters were walking idols for the eyes of
many, with nice, slick suits, puffing cigarettes with tremendous swagger. And one of them was Ray

neighborhoods in the city. Dropping out of high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Murdering Billy Batts, a mobster from the Gambino Crime Family, Henry Hill was on the verge of
living the glamoirous lifestyle by doing what had to be done and that was: never rat on your friends
and keeping your mouth shut. After closing the trunk in one motion, the trumpets of old jazz music
drifted slowing into the scene, and the title 'GoodFellas' appeared in vibrant red. The way the scene
was presented to the viewer, made the curiosity of one to perk up like meerkat coming out of a hole.
Some may ask themselves, "How did they get there? What happened before this all took place? Why
are the killing this man?" Automatically, the viewer is reeled into the story plot of 'GoodFellas '. I
mean, who wouldn't be? With the opening scene showing the brutal stabbing of a mobster and
finishing gunshots to his head, anyone could tell that this film is not for the faint at heart. Violence
will always capture the attention of the viewers.
As Henry Hill got deeper into doing "business" with Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito, there was
no doubt that anything would get in the way of their lucrative lifestyles. They would go out and
enjoy themselves with a few drinks in the nightclub called "Copacabana". Obnoxious laughs,
alcoholic beverages tapping glass on glass and tobacco smoke fills the air heavily. With such scene,
you would think that you're at a stand up comedy by whats being talked about. The director, Martin,
made a good choice of placing Joe Pesci (Tommy DeVito)

Richard Preston, is a dystopian novel that focuses on smallpox and the eradication of the horrific

What Is The Theme Of Lost Horizon
James Hilton wrote Lost Horizon in 1933, and it was an immediate success, selling millions of
copies, influencing President Roosevelt to name what's now Camp David Shangri–La, and Frank
Capra, a hot director after an Oscar sweep with It Happened One Night in 1934, made a movie of
Lost Horizon in 1937. The book also makes a big impression at first reading, especially for younger
readers (which is when I first read it, many years ago now), who are captivated by the atmosphere of
mystery and mysticism.
The story of Lost Horizon is simple: a group of travellers are stranded in the Himalayas and they

that point, Hilton includes a prologue and two lengthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He exhibits a lethal (to the reader's interest, that is) mix of indecision and introspection. I quote at
length from the section immediately before he decides to leave:
And he knew, too, that his mind dwelt in a world of its own, Shangri–La in microcosm, and that this
world also was in peril. For even as he nerved himself, he saw the corridors of his imagination twist
and strain under impact; the pavilions were toppling; all was about to be in ruins. He was only partly
unhappy, but he was infinitely and rather sadly perplexed. He did not know whether he had been
mad and was now sane, or had been sane for a time and was now mad again. (216–7)
Partly unhappy! I've seldom read about the internal life of a character that was so boring in its
complexity. Hamlet may have waffled, but at least Shakespeare set that in the context of the revenge
tragedy, an eventful genre. Part of my annoyance with Conway was his presence in an adventure
story gone awry; Conway is a symbol of the way the two halves of the book don't support each
other. Shangri–La is an interesting place to visit, but not with the expectation of an edge–of–the–seat

religious sect Canyon County Family Society that has existed for 25 years with 120 members, which
is part of the Mormon Church which strongly believes in polygamist marriages. Ms. Evans moved
in with the Conway's two years ago, in which time Mr. Conway and Ms. Evans began dating even

Conway. This was the first case to weigh in on Utah's anti–bigamy laws to state that they are
constitutional. Further when Chief Justice Waite delivered the opinion of the court in discussion of
the opinion further discussed if Mormons or the sects that are part of the religion practicing
polygamy should be exempt from the law. The state of Utah may use this in our current case to try
and show and or justify why Ms. Evans, Mr. & Mrs. Conway should not have the right to be
married in a polygamous marriage, or granted a religious exemption. Lastly in Reynolds Chief
Justice Waite compared polygamy as "a criminal act" which is also where the state of Utah will
weigh in on this wording as well for the defense. The state of Utah also relies heavily on Utah
Const. art. III, § 1, in Utah's Constitution stating "First: –– Perfect toleration of religious sentiment
is guaranteed. No inhabitant of this State shall ever be molested in person or property on account of
his or her mode of religious worship; but polygamous or plural marriages are forever prohibited",
and Utah's anti–polygamy statute, Utah Code Ann. § 76–7–101(1)(2)(3) stating "(1) A person is
guilty of bigamy when, knowing he has a husband or wife or knowing the other person has a
husband or wife, the person purports to marry another person or cohabits with another person, (2)
Bigamy is a felony of the third degree, and (3) It shall be a defense to bigamy that the accused
reasonably believed he and the

  • 1. Mexican Quilt The Case of the Mexican Crazy Quilt: Linderman Industries 1. Was Linderman Industries' adoption of project organization an appropriate one for getting the Mexican subsidiary started? 2. In consideration of Robert Linderman's letting the division managers know the project manager would be asking for some of their key people, why would Conway have any difficulty in getting the ones he wanted? 3. Would you expect that many people would turn down a chance to join a project organization, as Bert Mill did? 4. Why would Conway take his problem with the engineering vice president to Linderman and have it resolved in his favor, yet back down in two disputes with the manufacturing vice president? 5. What could Linderman Industries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The notice, however, did not offer an insight as to which employees would be taken for the project. Consequently, it is possible that the managers were not in a position to make necessary arrangements to cater for the departure of their team members. The impact on the divisions were, therefore, felt once the selection has been made thus, leading to negative reactions from the division heads. Joining a Project Organization Would you expect that many people would turn down a chance to join a project organization, as Bert Mill did? Most people would contend that no one would turn down a special job opportunity when it arises. I highly support this notion and accordingly, I would not expect people to turn down a chance to doing a project organization as exhibited by Bert Mill. This is because such chances are rare and far between. Furthermore, the chance of joining the project organization provides employees with an opportunity for him to develop his experience. Project organization provides employees with an opportunity to develop their management and planning skills (Turner, 2009). Employees are, therefore, exposed to new skills that would be of great benefit to them in building their careers. This justification is enough to make anyone take the position that Mill was offered in the project organization. Employees make various considerations before making choices concerning job placements and may give various reasons to justify their refusal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Last Known Transcendentalist: Eustace Conway Eustace Conway is one of a few individuals who live a pre–modern lifestyle. He lives in the middle of the woods, doing things his way. He is a spiritual man and views life differently than the common man. He has studied what is now his way of life and lived it his whole adult life. There have been others who view life that way, more so in the past compared to modern times. There have been fewer that are as popular and famous as Eustace. The way he views life is called transcendentalism. Unlike past transcendental icons, Eustace Conway is successful in his ways of living and incorporates his transcendental lifestyle into everything he does. Eustace is mentally stable and healthy, with which past transcendental icons have been questioned. Eustace was born in South Carolina in 1961. He has been living in the woods for most of his life. Despite what most of our society thinks he does have an educational background besides basic school. Eustace studied at the Appalachian Trail University in North Carolina. He has degrees in English and Anthropology. He has a strong tie to the woods, he has since a young age. At the age of 17 Eustace moved away from his parents and moved into the woods. He lived right outside of town in the town of the University. Eustace lived that way by himself, and was and still is successful at it today. His mindset about the woods and how he thinks about life is called transcendentalism. Eustace has a unique lifestyle, he does his tasks his way. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of The Movie ' Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless... There are many movies where memory is portrayed inaccurately. In the film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, memory removal was depicted through the patient reliving memories by viewing them as if they were recorded movie. However, this does not accurately depict memory, or the process of retrieving memories. In order to understand how memory is falsely portrayed in this film, it is important to recognize the different types of memory, and the areas of the brain in which memory is involved. This paper will review a scene of the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, and will identify the misleading factors about the way memory is portrayed and misrepresented. This paper will also discuss the important, factual details of memory, the parts of the brain involved in memory, describe individuals with Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory in detail and how these individuals are the closest to having perfectly accurate memories. Introduction In psychology, memory is a hot topic for discussion, and for good reason. As humans, most of us rely on memory for an abundant of reasons, even though most of us know that a lot of the times our memories are altered, changed, or not what we perceive them as. We use it as a guide to the past, even when some of us know that it is not necessarily reliable. But a good question is: how do we review our memories? In movies, such as Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind, memories are often portrayed as a movie, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Case Study Of Project Mexicano Adopting the project organization for getting the Mexican subsidiary started was an appropriate measure by Linderman Industries. Notably, starting up a new subsidiary is an exercise that would require considerable planning, preparation and strategizing so as to ensure that the activities would run smoothly once it was in operation (Kerzner, 2009). The kind of effort required in making this a reality is time consuming and employees within the organization may not be able to handle the project while performing their other normal duties. Consequently, there is bound to be high levels of inefficiency and poor organization. The project organization, in turn, ensures that the persons involved only concentrate on the project such that it is likely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Linderman Industries was, therefore, expected to invest heavily into the project and also to ensure that the team involved performed their duties well through constant review of the project progress (Koteen, 1997). The case study illustrates that the project was successful. The assurance of jobs would depend on the company's efforts. Assuring that there would be good jobs from the project would require the company to reserve some of the positions for their members of staff once the new subsidiary was set. This way, staff members including the project manager, Carl Conway, would be assured good jobs. It is notable that during the project, the team members interacted with a number of stakeholders that would be of great importance to the subsidiary. These are connections that the company would use to ensure that the subsidiary becomes profitable in the future. Turner (2009) notes that the organization highly requires the team members who are in a position to contribute highly from the skills acquired during the project. Accordingly, the project team disbanding process must, therefore, be conducted with extra caution. Turner (2009) suggests advance planning on how resources will run down and how employees will be transferred to new jobs or returned to their old jobs. Noting that motivation is quite important to the project team, Turner (2009) suggests that project team members should immediately be transferred to new jobs following successful project completion. This can only be actuated through the management's proper planning for the future. Linderman Industries should plan their staff process in advance, giving priority to staff members who are working with Project ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Anne Conway: Platonist Ecosystem Original passage from the "Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy". "Anne Conway's treatise is a work of Platonist metaphysics in which she derives her system of philosophy from the existence and attributes of God. The framework of Conway's system is a tripartite ontological hierarchy of 'species', the highest of which is God, the source of all being. Christ, or 'middle nature', links God and the third species, called 'Creature'. God as the most perfect being is infinitely good, wise and just. A principle of likeness links God and creation. Incorporeal created substance is, however, differentiated from the divine, principally on account of its mutability and multiplicity even so, the infinite number and constant mutability of created monads constitute an obverse reflection of the unity, infinity, eternity and unchangeableness of God. • 13. Argumentative Essay: The Demise Of The Trump Party In characteristic Trump–ian fashion, the businessman turned presidential candidate– and alleged sexual offender– doesn't give a sh*t, and his campaign is going down disgracefully at best, according to anonymous– and named– sources from within the campaign. The first source cited in what turns out to be a startlingly explosive piece by New York Magazine's Gabriel Sherman on the Trump campaign's demise is none other than Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway herself, the woman who has become the center of public scrutiny for a presidential campaign marked by Donald Trump's endless disturbing behavior. Conway reportedly told Sherman of a startling confrontation between her and her boss, one where Trump showed just how much he actually cares about those who have flocked to his campaign in some sort of demented hope for bettering their future. Conway related, "I got really mad at him the other day. He said, 'I think we'll win, and if not, that's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sherman reported on snippets of Trump campaign life from the time when Paul Manafort was the campaign's manager, and it's hardly any better than life under Conway. Manafort infamously came into the Trump campaign with guns blazing and aimed right at Trump's public persona, making grandiose pronouncements that the presidential candidate would become more "presidential" and shed some of his most disturbing character traits. Manafort apparently counseled Trump to work to be as nonabrasive as possible, staying out of the public spotlight so that attention could be focused on Clinton's supposed corruption. That didn't ... • 15. themes in lost horizon Essay What is Paradise? Throughout history man has sought to create, find, or at least image a paradise on earth, a place where there is peace, harmony, and a surcease from the pain that plagues our lives. On the eve of World War II, James Hilton imagined such a place in his best–selling novel, Lost Horizon. The story itself begins when an evacuation of Westerners is ordered in the midst of revolution in Baksul, India. A plane containing four passengers is hi–jacked and flown far away into the Keun– Lun Mountains of Tibet. The plane crashes and the passengers are welcomed to the valley of the Blue Moon, and the lamasery of Shangri–la. Here they see an isolated monastery shrouded in mystery, which combines Christianity and Buddhism with a focus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost immediately Conway feels he is ideally suited to their way of life. He meets other lamas who have been at Shangri–la for a long time, including Lo–Tsen, with whom he quietly falls in love with. All the newcomers desire to stay, except for Mallinson. He and Lo–Tsen fall in love with one another and makes plans to leave. Conway warns Mallinson not to take Lo–Tsen back with him, knowing her extreme old age will cause her to die immediately. Mallinson doubts Conway's knowledge of Shangri–la, which in turn leads Conway himself to doubt and eventually consent to leave. After their departure from Shangri–la, the story is unresolved. We are lead to believe that there was truth to the story and that Lo–Tsen rapidly ages then dies, we are never definitively told the fates of the her, Conway and Mallinson following their departure from Shangri–la. A theme found in Lost Horizon is the desire to leave and apparent utopia in favor of a former home, however flawed. This is comparable to Odysseus who wanted to leave the utopian island of Kalypso to return home to Ithaca and his wife. The British youth Mallinson is similar to Odysseus in this respect. While Conway, Barnard and Miss Brinklow find Shangri–la a satisfying place to live, Mallinson intensely desires to leave and return home to his family, friends, and country. • 17. The Writer 's Duty Of William Faulkner 's Nobel Prize... Addie Champlin English II AP Dr. Payne September 9 2016 The Writer's Duty In William Faulkner's Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks about the true purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart into your work. He discusses how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the author is dedicated to showing the authentic love the human spirit holds and what that love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writing will show both strength and vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be written for the sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillard and Jill Ker Conway, both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends to express her reasons for writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more implicitly. In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the meaning of the novel in one passage that reads, "Children wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have been here all along; is this sad? They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people and objects, equipped with a hundred skills. • 19. An Island Of The Pelicans ( Williams, 2016 ) Essay Alcatraz was first discovered in 1775 by a spanish explorer, Juan Manuel del Ayala, which he named the Island of the Pelicans (Williams, 2016). Alcatraz is now a national landmark established in the 1930's. The renowned island located in the bay of San Francisco, California. During the 1930's crimes and gangs increased in an alarming rate due to the effects of The Great Depression (Williams, 2016). Many crimes and gangs rose also when many laws were passed and put many behind bars (Raaphorst, 71). Donna Raaphorst, author of "The History Of An Island Prison: From The Development To An American Myth", states In l932, the Threatening Communications Act and the Kidnapping Act passed. In l933, a new law made it a federal crime to assault or kill a federal officer. The National Firearms Act, the National Bank Robber Act, the Anti–Racketeering Act, the Fugitive Felon Act, and the National Stolen Property Act all passed in l934. Such legislation increased the role of the federal government in crime control (Raaphorst,71). Many notorious criminals were incarcerated and with many attempted to escape, Alcatraz was calling for all inmates who were too hard to handle. There were existing penitentiaries where they had dangerous convicts who wouldn't abide to the rules and had the continuous mindset to plan an escape (Raaphorst, 2016). The United State's government realized that something needed to change and formed a different approach of dealing with all the felons. Alcatraz Federal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Summary Of Time And The Conways And A Dream Play Time and the Conways (1937) and A Dream Play (1901) play with the idea of time as nonlinear. Influenced by John William Dunne, Priestley begins to investigate his own conception of time as the past, present, and future all happening at once. Strindberg, although he wrote A Dream Play ahead of Dunne and Priestley, also expounds on similar ideas linking time and dreams. Dreams can free us from viewing time's structure as fixed and linear. Therefore, both playwrights begin to make theatre audiences aware of new ideas about how to perceive time and the use of dreams/precognitive states. Utilizing Dunne's basic theory of non–linear time, I will talk about how we can apply this to readings of Time and the Conways and A Dream Play to explore themes of dreams and perception of time. Most notable to J.B. Priestley, who was heavily influenced by this work, was John William Dunne's "An Experiment with Time". In Dunne's work, he talks about that all time is happening at once so that every moment is proceeding right now. However, humans experience time in linear fashion. To comprehend time, we must clearly separate past, present, and future. Dunne also explores the theory that only when we dream, time is no longer limited to linear concrete interpretation that we experience in our waking hours. The idea of nonlinear time in dreams relates to Strindberg's A Dream Play and some sections of Time and the Conways. However, Dunne was not taken seriously by his contemporaries due to his lack ... • 23. Incorporating the Metaparadigm of Nursing with the Theory... I. Introduction The purpose of this paper is to present a personal belief about the metaparadigm of nursing and to incorporate it into that of Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring. II. Personal Belief on the Paradigm Every person's needs must be recognized, respected, and filled if he or she must attain wholeness. The environment must attuned to that wholeness for healing to occur. Healing must be total or holistic if health must be restored or maintained. And a nurse–patient relationship is the very foundation of nursing (Conway et al 2011; Johnson, 2011). The Theory recognizes a person's needs above all. It sets up the conducive environment to healing. It addresses and works on the restoration and maintenance of total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... IV. Description of the Theory The Theory of Human Caring Its main concept is transpersonal human caring, best understood within the ancillary concepts of life, illness and health (Fawcett, 2002). It defines human life as "spiritual–mental–physical being–in–the–world," traversing continuously in time and space. Illness is not always a disease, but can also be a state of turbulence or disharmony in a person's inner self, whether in the conscious or unconscious level. And health is the unity and harmony of the mind, body and the soul. Transpersonal human caring and caring transactions refer to scientific, professional, ethical, aesthetic, creative and personalized giving and receiving behaviors and responses between nurse and patient. These interactions allow them to experience each other via physical, mental and spiritual paths or a combination of these paths. From these, it can be gleaned that the precise goal of nursing is to help the patient gain a higher degree of harmony in mind, body and soul. That harmony produces self–knowledge, self–respect, self–healing, and self–care processes (Fawcett). The 10 Clinical Caritas These are humanistic–altruistic system of values; faith–hope; sensitivity to oneself and others; helping–trusting and human care relationship; expressing positive and negative feelings; a creative ... • 25. Shangri-L Paradise Or Prison? Shangri–La: Paradise or Prison? Lost Horizon by James Hilton delicately investigates the tensions between opposing philosophical movements – Modernism and Traditionalism. Hilton deftly demonstrates these tensions through the development of his characters: a band of misguided, reluctant captives. On one hand, there are the Traditionalists, who support the notion that life would be more enjoyable if society were to reinforce traditional or familiar values and lifestyles. On the other hand, there are the Modernists, who welcome innovation and continually seek an increasingly convenient means of living. In the perpetual battle between breaking tradition and embracing it, Lost Horizon helps present these opposing forces using various metaphorical devices to enliven the situational elements of character development. Shan–gri–la becomes the overarching metaphor for which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly, Mallinson is eager to leave because he believes there aren't any redeeming qualities in Shangri–La. His impatience is further expressed when Shangri–La is likened to a prison when Bernard says, "...[Think of] all of the folks in the world who'd give all they've got to be out of the racket and in a place like this, only they can't get out! Are we in the prison or are they?" (Hamilton 189). Mallinson's response to Bernard is, "A comforting speculation for a monkey in a cage..." (Hamilton 189). Overall, our class discussions during this week about the development of Israel in relation to other cultures were aligned with what David M. Carr and Colleen M. • 31. Conway Twity And Loretta Lynn: Music Analysis I chose to do my album review on Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn – The Definitive Collection (App Coll CDisc 994). Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn were one of the best–known country music duos, with fourteen top–ten singles, five of which reached number one, and twelve hit albums. Conway Twitty was born two counties out of the Appalachian region in Coahoma County, Mississippi. Loretta Lynn, however, was born in Johnson County, Kentucky in the heart of Appalachia. Conway began his music career as a "rockabilly" artist, but was redirected to his country roots in the mid–sixties and quickly became a country balladeer. Loretta was rising to fame around the same time and the two met in the late 1960's. Their joint career took off after their first duet together in 1971 ("After The Fire Is Gone"). In the liner notes for this album, "After The Fire Is Gone" was described as a "ballad tinged with bluegrass–style harmonies." The instruments used were typically the electric guitar, the drums, a tambourine, and electric bass. The power behind their voices and the stories that the lyrics told led many people to believe they had an affair together. Hilton commences his novel by utilizing the literary technique of a frame. At a dinner meeting, friends share their insights into life, and eventually, from a neurologist, and friend of Conway, evolves the story of Conway's exotic adventures. Finally, he just leaves, but with him travels Conway, for he was fond of his friend, and his friend also took with him Lo–Tsen, the beauty he secretly loved. Hilton's novel leaves the reader with an unsolved mystery since the mystical powers of the "slowing of the aging process" remained only within the grounds of the lamasery. Conway soon realizes this as Lo–Tsen ages instantaneously, and transforms into a woman "...most old of any one I have ever seen." From here he must navigate himself back to the safety of the placid lamasery, but does he make it? At this Hilton returns to the frame, in which the neurologist friend of his is trying to trace Conway's path and find this sacred civilization. In this reconstruction, personal consequentiallity is applied after an event once is importance is measured within society. This also questions the validity and accuracy of "flashbulb memories" in that they are memories actively reconstructed and transformed over time. Neisser & Harsch (1992) measured flashbulb memories of the shuttle challenger explosion. They found that after one day 9 subjects claimed to have learned of the event from television, however 34 months later this figure had risen to 19. As a further nail in the coffin for Brown and Kulik's flashbulb memory hypothesis Christianson & Loftus (1987) found that high emotion served to narrow attention to focus to the central aspects of an event a the expense of peripheral details. This would seem to indicate that the idiosyncratic details associated with flashbulb memories are more reconstructive, as the periphery surrounding an event is filled in on rehearsal. At this point it may appear that flashbulb memories are little more than a cultural phenomenon involving an enhancement of ordinary memories and therefore not different from them. McCloskey et al (1988) have pointed out that ordinary memories can be accurate and long lasting due to frequent rehearsal. The three sins of omission are situations that most people can relate to which just goes to show how difficult it sometimes can be to remember the simplest of things. Each sin plays a part in both Fuller and Conway's memoirs. There are only few places where the authors reveal a sense of uncertainty as to whether they remember correctly or not; they both express themselves as if they remember everything they write quite clearly. This makes the reader believe that the authors never experience Transience, Absent–mindedness or Blocking, which might raise a red flag as no one can remember everything. However, the authors might easily explain this by saying that they simply did not include the minor details that they did not remember. Still, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of Fuller's more traumatic experiences are the attempted rape of her and her sister, the death of her younger sister, her getting lost in the forest and the list just goes on. Conway's memories are a bit less severe, but she still lost most of her family in one way or another, was bullied and discriminated, and such events leave their mark. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that traumatic memories might actually not be as accurate as they seem since the involved party might build upon the event over time to better cope with them or because of guilt. Fuller, for example, blames herself fully for the death of her younger sister, though she can hardly be blamed. Female Role In Modern Philosophy The era of modern philosophy, with a special canalization period during the 18th and 19th centuries, was a time of flourishing activity in terms of philosophical importance. Whether we're speaking with relation to Cartesianism, the moral and political philosophy of Nietzsche, or another male during the period, their philosophical ideologies still remain present and of use in multiple presentations – from bioethics to law. Transgressing beyond the grave, the impacts of these few still conquer, but what about the ideologies of the nameless? Continually ignored within the narrative, one primary demographic of philosophers during the era of modern philosophy that is commonly ignored is that of women. Although the importance of female impact on modern philosophy is quantified as minuscule, the females of this era had achievements and impacts on the ideologies of their predecessors and deserve recognition. In exploring issues of fieldwork and representation, ethnomusicologist Michelle Kisliuk argues that, "the focus on field ethnography is clearly essential to performance ethnography" (1997, p. 41). Kisliuk outlines three interdependent questions, two of which I wish to examine here. Her first question considers the concept and location of the "field" as used in fieldwork; her second examines the language employed in ethnographic descriptions. The connection of performance ethnography with the performance of writing presents an opportunity to examine the views of ethnographic writers. Fox frames Cash's song within his experience at Ann's Other Place, a bar he frequented in the course of field research. Because the owner failed to pay ASCAP or BMI fees she was harassed for violating the laws concerning the performance of commercial music by agents. Many of the bar's regulars thought the idea of paying to perform a song like Folsom Prison Blues was rather ridiculous owing to mythical status of figures like Cash. Fox's alignment of Cash's song with the opinions of local musicians and patrons demonstrates the connections between music and life. His informants commented that Johnny Cash wouldn't have objected to their covers of his songs. Just as Cash positioned working–class life in resistance to modernity, Cash became a symbol of resistance for Fox's informants. By performing "Folsom Prison Blues", people performed the ideas within the song and extended those ideas to their own lives. Further, Fox frequently moves from his memories of performing to analyses of particular events, demonstrating the movement between the "intellectual and experiential" Kisliuk cites as an integral part of ethnographic research (p. 40). Throughout the poem, the narrator gave the young girl a very difficult time when she persisted that simply because not all seven children were home together, or alive, they were still seven. The narrator was giving the young girl a hard time because he wanted her to remember and understand that just because she and her siblings are separated does not make them any less siblings. This is the majority of the poem because the narrator thinks it is most important that the young girl understands she has still has five siblings, despite two of them have passed and, "their graves are green, they may be seen (Line 37)." The girl is only eight years of age and she understands that her deceased siblings are still her siblings even though they are not still living. Making sure she understands she still has five siblings is exactly what the narrator's goal is, but the narrator is pretending to believe they are only five. The narrator reinforces his "belief" in lines 35– 36: "If two are in the church–yard laid,/ Then ye are only five." The conversation resurfaces later in the poem, in lines 61–64: "How many are you, then, said I,/ If they two are in heaven?/ Quick was the little Maid's reply,/ O Master! We are seven." No matter what is said by the narrator, the eight year old girl insists that they are seven. • 55. Man And Time By Mley Priestley Summary Given the playing around with time in Time and the Conways, the words of Dunne profoundly influenced J.B. Priestley. Using this knowledge, Priestley wrote his own book on time, entitled Man and Time (1964). In this work, Priestley explained that each person has three "observers": Observer One experiences time (and therefore, existence) as linear; Observer Two is able to catch glimpses of the past, present, and future especially through dreams while existing in a fourth dimensional time; Observer Three is aware of the other Observers and is ultimate (Foster, 4). Each succession of Observer is aware of its predecessor Observer so that the Third Observer is all–knowing and detached. What Priestley means to suggest is that on a general conscious level, we are aware of linear time. Only when we dream, are we able to let go of the limitations of perceiving time as linear; we are able to see time as happening all at once, being 'the whole stretch of ourselves' as Alan described. Time is not separate moments to be categorized as past, present, or future; rather, Observer Two breaks free from this categorization in order to perceive a 'truer version of ourselves'. Then, Observer Three is even more omniscient than Observer two and seeks to be the most real version of ourselves; however, we do not have general access to request Observer three. These ideas of Priestley greatly influenced his work, especially Time and the Conways. Alan's speech at the end of Act two to Kay is Priestley's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Theme Of The Demon In The Freezer Alana LeSuer Mrs. Davis English II Honors 16 March 2015 Comparative Analysis Essay Death is the undeniable force that compels people into extreme situations. The Demon in the Freezer, by Richard Preston, is a dystopian novel that focuses on smallpox and the eradication of the horrific disease. On the other hand, Lost Horizon, by James Hilton, is a utopian novel set on a surreal island where a perfect society is idealized. These two novels present a central theme about human nature; however, it is displayed in different ways as shown through the contrasting genres of books. The novels' use of conflict, as well as diction, tone, and mood; along with motifs, present the theme that the fear of death pushes people to extreme behaviors. Both authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conflicts in both novels underline death and crossing boundaries to what is ethnically right. The diction used in the books, such as medical jargon or bitterness, links back to the theme in association with tone and mood. Both motifs of time and danger show Preston's and Hilton's underlying messages they illustrate. The message about human nature is displayed in all of these literary devices to enhance the readers perspective. Learning about human nature and how humans react to specific subjects helps society avoid death because it pushes people to drastic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Relevant Cost CHAPTER 13 SHORT–RUN DECISION MAKING: RELEVaNT COSTING 1 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Tactical decisions are short run in nature; they involve choosing among alternatives with an immediate or limited end in view. Strategic decisions involve selecting strategies that yield a long–term competitive advantage. 2. Depreciation is an allocation of a sunk cost. This cost is a past cost and will never differ across alternatives. 3. The salary of the supervisor of an assembly line with excess capacity is an example of an irrelevant future cost for an accept–or–reject decision. 4. Past costs can be used to help predict future costs. 5. Yes. Suppose, for example, that sufficient materials are on hand for producing a part for two years. ... In fact, company income will be $74,750 higher if all three flooring product lines are kept as opposed to dropping the parquet line. Cornerstone Exercise 13–17 1. Revenue from logs = ($500 × 8,000) = $4,000,000. 2. Revenue from further processing = $0.75 × (8,000 × 800) = $4,800,000. Further processing cost = $0.05 × (8,000 × 800) = $320,000. Income from further processing = $4,800,000 – $320,000 = $4,480,000. 3. Jack's should process the logs into lumber because the company will make $4,480,000 versus the $4,000,000 it would make by selling the logs for use in cabins. Cornerstone Exercise 13–18 1. • 65. What Is The Theme Of Lost Horizon James Hilton wrote Lost Horizon in 1933, and it was an immediate success, selling millions of copies, influencing President Roosevelt to name what's now Camp David Shangri–La, and Frank Capra, a hot director after an Oscar sweep with It Happened One Night in 1934, made a movie of Lost Horizon in 1937. The book also makes a big impression at first reading, especially for younger readers (which is when I first read it, many years ago now), who are captivated by the atmosphere of mystery and mysticism. The story of Lost Horizon is simple: a group of travellers are stranded in the Himalayas and they encounter a remote monastery named Shangri–La and the wonderful people who live there. Before that point, Hilton includes a prologue and two lengthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He exhibits a lethal (to the reader's interest, that is) mix of indecision and introspection. I quote at length from the section immediately before he decides to leave: And he knew, too, that his mind dwelt in a world of its own, Shangri–La in microcosm, and that this world also was in peril. For even as he nerved himself, he saw the corridors of his imagination twist and strain under impact; the pavilions were toppling; all was about to be in ruins. He was only partly unhappy, but he was infinitely and rather sadly perplexed. He did not know whether he had been mad and was now sane, or had been sane for a time and was now mad again. (216–7) Partly unhappy! I've seldom read about the internal life of a character that was so boring in its complexity. Hamlet may have waffled, but at least Shakespeare set that in the context of the revenge tragedy, an eventful genre. Part of my annoyance with Conway was his presence in an adventure story gone awry; Conway is a symbol of the way the two halves of the book don't support each other. Shangri–La is an interesting place to visit, but not with the expectation of an edge–of–the–seat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the candidate for the Democrats, Jack Conway the political standpoint, and route of the state looked like it could have stayed similar to the times when Governor Steve Beshear held office. Due to the law regulating amount of terms that a Governor can be elected into office, this election would be one without an incumbent in the mix. You were the republican candidate up for the political seat as Governor. The independent within this race was Drew Curtis. Once again, in the campaign the components to both the democratic and republican platforms where what separated you from one another. Conway seems to enjoy following formal routes with endorsements, and big name association backing him. For the issue of Gun Control, his endorsement and ranking by the National Rifle Association was major to gun owners during this campaign. This backing shows the seriousness, and success that Conway has had toward gun rights for Kentucky citizens. Your position on Gun Control goes beyond just the right to own guns. In comparison to Conway, you placed emphasis on the right to carry guns, and the right of a citizen to choose different types of guns and ammunition. Conway had the upper–hand when it came to gun–control, because he did not take it to a radical extreme. Many Americans believe in the words of the Second Amendment, but I also believe that most understand that gun violence is dramatically increasing, and that allowing people to carry may directly impact that in a negative away. Although one could make that argument that if people are allowed to carry guns they can feel safer, and they are able to protect against those who intend to inflict harm, when ... His love of the retail environment, his strong interdependence, and his deep appreciation of people appreciation of people stemmed from his childhood experience: claiming that he has been in retail for over 60 years, working at some of his fathers 200 food stores. After college, Conway and his wife, Marty, returned to Cleveland. He began working for an industrial firm and quickly learned that, while sales attracted him, working in a large corporation did not. This led to Conway realizing the importance for such things as an advisory board, which was made up of four independent current and former company CEOs. It also led Conway to begin thinking of the furture of the company, and the possibility of passing it down to one of his sons. Family involvement in the company began in the 1970s, when the Conway children earned extra money by putting adhesive on the back of Arrowhead fasteners. They had all done odd jobs for FFr, but of the seven children only three worked in the business as adults. Kevin, the eldest, joined in the early 1980s and became an outstanding salesman, Paul, the youngest, eventually became the international sales manager, and Neil, the fourth son, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in college and found work in the warehouse. Out of the three sons, Paul was seen as the most serious contender, but after some time in the company and deliberation, he decided that being CEO was not for him and went on to become a teacher. Now Gerry was left with a huge predicament. Kevin was out of the picture, his son Stuart had, long ago; decided that he didn't want the responsibility. None of the kids were interested. Gerry's problem was not only his lack of succession planning, but also his lack of retirement planning. He had done some retirement planning but the demands of running a business didn't leave him ... • 75. Chronic State Of Dehydration ( Ericson 1 ) Thirsty Yet? Dry, sticky mouth, sleepiness, dry skin, and headache! Do you know what those are signs of? Dehydration! "Dehydration happens when you 've lost too much water in your body without replacing it, preventing your body to perform its normal functions" (Mercola 1). With your schedule being so busy sometimes, making sure you have an adequate amount of water a day slips your mind. "Your body is mostly water. So even 1% difference effects you in a huge way" (Dustin Freckleton, MD). This is a crazy thought, because it doesn't sound like a lot, but "75 percent of the American population fall short of the 10 daily cups prescribed by the Institute of Medicine – which, in medical terms, means that most people in the U.S are functioning in a chronic state of dehydration" (Ericson 1). An idea of the first hydration monitor, which was developed February of 2012, was called the LVL hydration monitor. "LVL is a wearable hydration monitor that gives you the complete picture of your health by also tracking activity, sleep, mood and HR" (Freckleton). Another idea that was developed was called, The Conway, "the first–ever women's handbag that contains a removable water bladder and drinking tube for easy hydration" (Smith, Fallyn, and Chelsea Star Alexander). Both are great products, but very different in a variety of ways. The LVL was developed by Dustin Freckleton, MD, when he had his first stroke, which was from dehydration. Further when Chief Justice Waite delivered the opinion of the court in discussion of the opinion further discussed if Mormons or the sects that are part of the religion practicing polygamy should be exempt from the law. The state of Utah may use this in our current case to try and show and or justify why Ms. Evans, Mr. & Mrs. Conway should not have the right to be married in a polygamous marriage, or granted a religious exemption. Lastly in Reynolds Chief Justice Waite compared polygamy as "a criminal act" which is also where the state of Utah will weigh in on this wording as well for the defense. The state of Utah also relies heavily on Utah Const. art. III, § 1, in Utah's Constitution stating "First: –– Perfect toleration of religious sentiment is guaranteed. No inhabitant of this State shall ever be molested in person or property on account of his or her mode of religious worship; but polygamous or plural marriages are forever prohibited", and Utah's anti–polygamy statute, Utah Code Ann. § 76–7–101(1)(2)(3) stating "(1) A person is guilty of bigamy when, knowing he has a husband or wife or knowing the other person has a husband or wife, the person purports to marry another person or cohabits with another person, (2) Bigamy is a felony of the third degree, and (3) It shall be a defense to bigamy that the accused reasonably believed he and the
