Unemployment Rate In Macroeconomics
Written by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, Macroeconomics states, In general, the unemployment
rate is a good indicator of how easy or difficult it is to find a job given the current state of the
economy (Krugman and Wells 219). A New York Times article, Strong Unemployment News Bolsters
Case for Fed to Raise Rates written by Reuters, talks about how unemployment rate benefits are
holding steady with a steady labor market and how job openings are rising, which is encouraging the
Federal Reserve to higher interest rates. As explained in Macroeconomics, by Krugman and Wells
interest rates refer to, The price, calculated as a percentage of the amount borrowed , that lenders
charge borrowers the use of their savings for one year (Krugman ... Show more content on

As explained in Macroeconomics, by Krugman and Wells, In structural unemployment, more people
are seeking jobs in a particular labor market than there are jobs available at the current wage rate, even
when the economy is at the peak of the business cycle (Krugman and Wells 227). If the government
believes that this is the case in which the unemployment rate will not continue to decrease but instead
rise, then the economy could face the costs of disinflation. The Christian Science Monitor journalist
Mike Tokars wrote, Sanders and O Malley: Raise Minimum Wage to $15. Is it feasible which talks
about how in the democratic debates on Saturday, November 14, Bernie Sanders and Martin O Malley
agreed that raising the Federal minimum wage to $15 would be a stimulant to the economy and give
the people of the United States more disposable income. This article also shows that former Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton disagrees and suggests that would create more job loss and a higher
unemployment rate. If you look at the Republican side and Democratic Hillary Clinton who is more
conservative regarding economic policies this article supports the notion that the Federal Reserve
believes higher minimum wage will create structural unemployment and will result in a higher
unemployment rate over

What Is Dry Information
Wet and Dry Information: Dry information, also known as formal information, is non contextual,
unambiguous, standardized, routinized, and is often used to explain how to do certain tasks. Dry
information is easily replicated and easily transferrable due to it s universal language among peers.
Examples of dry information include quantifiable measures, such as, facts, statistics, and routine
procedures explaining how to do something. Where as, wet information, also known as informal
information is developed from social interactions which can often be described as contextual,
unorganized, and demonstrating local values. Wet information is often used to connect one form of
information to another, thus, explaining why it is exactly that we should do certain tasks. Examples of

There are many technological advancements that have come to impact our society and human
behavior. For example, prior to the advancement of technology, we as a society used to communicate
with one another through personal interactions of through the traditional measures of pen and paper. In
contemporary times, due to the advancement of cell phones, we now as a society have conformed to
communicate with one another primarily through the use of a cellular device. Another example of how
technology has impacted human behavior is how we currently able to gather information. As a society,
we used to have to go to the library and look things up by hand, but now, information has become

Dispositional, Biological and Evolutionary Theory of Personality
A Comparison
The word Personality is derived from the latin word persona , which stands for the mask theatre artists
wear during performances. By definition, personality is a pattern of relatively permanent traits and
unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to a person s behavior (Feist
Rosenberg, 2009). Human personality is a unique set of traits that determines how a person reacts to
certain situations. Whether the person is curious, risk taking, meticulous, introverted etc. falls in the
realm of personality. Personality is a unique determinant of how we conduct our lives and in effect
determines our biological fitness. There are many theories that try to explain the origins of personality
and how they manifest into life decisions.
The three main theories that have come to the forefront in the race to explain personality are viz.,
Dispositional Theory, Evolutionary Theory and Biological Theory.

being based on science, this theory allowed interaction between psychiatrists, psychologists,

Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary Case Study
Only 100 miles off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, there is a marine ecosystem teeming with life.
This ecosystem is called the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS). FGBNMS
is a coral reef that monitored and preserved by NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration. NOAA sees the FGBNMS as a valuable natural resource that we need to protect. The
intent of this memo is to identify the resources that FGBNMS provides, what policies are in place to
protect those resources, what effect these policies have had, and what actions to take from this point
forward. Fortunately, the policies regarding this natural resource are accomplishing the goal of
protecting this reef, so I do not recommend to many changes to the existing policies, except for a few
slight changes.
Resources that FGBNMS Provides
The resources provided by this coral reef can be categorized into one of three types: externalities,
public goods, and common pool goods. An externality can be understood as unintended impacts of a
decision that affect those who were not involved in the making ... Show more content on

Many people realize this and have put policies into place to help preserve as much of FGBNMS as
they can. These policies vary among command and control policies, market and incentive policies, and
even community collaborations and regulations. To help NOAA decide what policies to put in place,
the FGBNMS Advisory Council (AC) was formed. The AC is made of 6 different committees that
address specific priority issues within the sanctuary (National Ocean Service, 2015a). Sanctuary staff
uses recommendations from the AC to develop action plans and prepare management strategies
mandated by the Office of the National Marine Sanctuary (National Ocean Service, 2015a). NOAA,

Relationship Between A Manufacturer And A Distributor
Writing Assignment #2
The relationship between a manufacturer and a distributor is a crucial part in the success of a business
alliance or partnership. It is necessary to pay close attention to the relationship between manufacturers
and distributors in terms of trust, alliances and conflict. Manufacturers and distributors should select
each other appropriately and wisely because each member of the supply chain has different
expectations for the other. The most common two paths for a manufacturer to enter the market through
distribution are exclusively and non exclusively. Information on relations and channel paths is
significant because it will be easier be able to include them in my other projects and classes
throughout the rest of academic and professional careers.
The most vital concepts I learned in IDIS 340 is how important it is for manufacturers and distributors
to choose the right business partners. Market share is the main driver for manufacturers, so they must
turn their attention to distributors that have a wide range of access to the market. Profitability is the
primary focus of distributors so they should choose manufacturers that have a strong market brand,
supply the appropriate products to meet the market s demands, and offers a technical sales team.
Sharing common goals and visions is perhaps the most significant element in choosing how to align a
manufacturer and distributor.
After aligning with proper distributors, manufacturers have expectations that they

Who Is Sir Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was a mathematician and an English scientist. He is considered to be one of the most
intelligent people of all time. He formulated the law of universal gravitation and wrote the laws of
motion. Newton developed a form of calculus and contributed to the study of light.
Isaac Newton was born premature December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, England. His birth was after
the death of his illiterate father and during a time of political unrest in England. Civil wars were
plaguing the area the Isaac Newton was from. When Isaac was three his mother remarried and left his
grandparents to raise him. Eight years later, when Isaac was twelve, his stepfather died. At that time he
was able to live with his mother again.

This led to the hypotheses that the force that pulled the apple was also responsible for keeping the
Moon in orbit around Earth. This was a unique idea of the era because most people believed in the
theory of the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 322 B.C.), who had said that the heavenly
bodies obeyed different physical laws than objects on Earth. Newton suggested all bodies responded
to the same physical laws, no matter where they were. During his stay on the farm he also, conducted
optical experiments that aided his account of white lights and colors. In 1667 Newton became a fellow
of Trinity College at Cambridge University where his incredible knowledge was first recognized by
his mathematics professor, Isaac Barrow, when in 1669, after resigning from his former job to become
entirely committed to theology, recommended that Newton be his successor. Newton progressed to a
mathematic Lucasian professor at the age of only 27 and continued to do his teaching at Trinity for the
duration of his professing career. Sir Isaac Newton unfortunately passed away on March 20, 1727 in

Culture in Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer’s Book...
Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception is a chapter in Theodor Adorno and Max
Horkheimer s book Dialectic of Enlightenment it goes onto discus the conflicts presented by the
culture industry. Adorno states that the culture industry is a main phenomenon of late capitalism,
encompassing all products from Hollywood films, to advertisements, and even extending to musical
compositions. Adorno is very deliberate in noting the term culture industry over mass culture this was
done to specifically distinguish, that it is not to be understood as something which spontaneously
stems from the masses themselves. Products of the culture economy take on the appearance of artwork
but are in fact dependant on industry and economy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author goes on to explain that the public refrains from criticizing the media because they are
dependent upon it. They need the culture industry in order to achieve pleasure and satisfaction and
cannot imaging their lives without it. The industry preserves its power by presenting an ideal of the
good life as reality and through false conflicts that trade him for his real ones. The industry spreads
false values and establishes the individual s willingness to be a part of society and to coordinate his
interests with it. Adorno also states that the culture industry takes advantage of the weaker classes by
making its content shallow and widely appealing and thus demoting the value of culture Everyone
knows that they are helpless within the system, and ideology must take account for this The main
argument behind the article is that the commodification of culture is the commodification of human
awareness. The culture industry provides easy entertainment which is able to distract the masses from
the wrongs of a capitalist ruling order. It goes onto argue that the culture industry has over taken
reality and the way that it is experienced, where it completely shapes and conditions the experiences
we have creating an alternate reality of consumerism. Popular culture gives the allusion of a
distraction from our everyday lives, but in fact it causes those consuming to further dwell into

Political Sociology Reading List And Rationale
Political Sociology Reading List and Rationale
The purpose of this comprehensive exam is to give me an opportunity to demonstrate mastery over
relevant debates, theories, and empirical findings in the major issues of political sociology. I will also
examine theoretical and empirical approaches to classic and contemporary fundamental questions of
political sociology. My primary goal here is to learn how to think critically like a political sociologist
and be able to understand and use the major concepts, frameworks and representatives of political
sociology for my doctoral project. Political sociology is a very broad and multi dimensional discipline.
Thus, to examine the mentioned issues, I will primarily look at the various cases and hot debates
around the intersection of Islam and politics in the modern world.
I organized my reading list at five parts that match the scope of my doctoral research as well as
expanding my expertise within political sociology. My subfields consist of (1) the overview of
political sociology, (2) Islam and Muslim politics, (3) Islam and modernity debates (4) multiple
modernities, and (5) religion and immigration: Islam and Muslim in the western societies. These
subsections will be particularly useful for me because my research project is developing within
political sociology, Islam and politics and multiple modernity perspectives.
The section of overview of political sociology will provide me to become familiar with and capable of

Analysis on the Standard of Living in the Industrial Revolution Debate
Before the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain s economy relied heavily on agriculture, which at that
point of time was based a flawed system dating back to the Middle Ages. This system, known as the
open field system, showed agricultural inefficiencies, and was disallowing of innovation. These
inefficiencies eventually led to the privatization of land for agriculture, in an effort to solve what is
now commonly referred to as the tragedy of the commons . Great Britain was now moving forward,
and as the country (and continent) began enclosing their land, Britain began a period of
modernization, with new technologies that would increase productivity in industry to a level never
before seen. This is the period commonly referred to as the Industrial Revolution, and was an era of
unprecedented growth in industry from the middle of the 18th century until around the middle of the
19th century. In 1760, 53% of the British population worked in agriculture. By 1840, that had dropped
to 29%. The evolution from water and wind power to steam engines, as well as the creation of many
pieces of machinery for the textile industry (such as the Spinning Jenny, which reduced the production
time on yarn) vastly improved British manufacturing of goods, and the reliance on agriculture
continued to drop. The development from an agricultural focus

I lived and will live. Being an optimist person has helped me to be more peaceful to myself and more

Squaws And Nobel Maidens
American Indians have been stereotyped in different forms of media for entertainment purposes for
centuries. The male stereotypes, such as the Nobel Savage, are widely known in literature. American
Indian women have also fallen victim to their own set of stereotypes. Two common labels regarding
American Indian women are Squaws, and Nobel Maidens. European Americans have done their best
to pigeonhole American Indians into these stereotypes, however, American Indian women are more
complex than that. History dictates that these women had many roles in their respective tribes to
include prominent positions.
Since Europeans first arrived in the Americas in the late 1400s, they viewed American Indian
relationships through their own cultural biases. Women were observed working alongside men, each
contributing to the good of the tribe. Through the lens of cultural bias, Europeans immediately labeled
these women as slaves, who were no better than animals. The early settlers failed to recognize that
women were seen as equal to their male counterparts. Each sex had their own set of tasks, but all tasks
were valued without one out weighing another (Lajimodiere, 2013). The slave stereotype continued to
be perpetuated for centuries and became synonymous with the term Squaw. It infected the way
American Indian women were treated by white men not only in the media, but in real life as well. In
the media the Indian Squaw was routinely portrayed as a household servant, or a hyper

When you are renovating a bathroom and getting ready to install a shower, you may hear a number of
different terms. Some of these may refer to the materials being used to construct your new shower,
including marble and cultured marble. Understanding the difference between these two popular
building materials can help you make the right decision for your home.
Marble Overview
Marble is a natural stone material made mostly of calcite. A metamorphic stone, marble is actually

The finished cultured marble product is sealed with a gel coat. As a result, cultured marble is glossy in
appearance with subtle, uniform veins and color. Cultured marble is formed inside heated molds into
vanity tops and shower surrounds.
Care of Marble in a Shower
As a natural stone, marble is porous. Marble in a shower should be well sealed to avoid staining due to
water absorption. White marbles should never be used on shower floors, to avoid wicking up
impurities from the shower drain and discoloring over time. All marble in the shower should be
washed with stone cleansers, sealed regularly and squeegeed dry after each use to prevent stains and
etching.
Care of Cultured Marble in the Shower
Cultured marble is a non porous material, meaning that it does not need to be sealed. It can be cleaned
with any non abrasive bathroom cleanser and left to dry naturally. If the surface does become
scratched or abraded, it can be re polished with an application of automotive polish and a soft cloth.
Because it is easy to care for, most homeowners prefer cultured marble to natural marble.

Recycling Essay
Recycling
During the early 1970s, as communities across the United States saw their landfills filling up, attention
turned to alternative methods of garbage disposal, such as incineration and recycling. While
incineration proved to be a thorny issue due to its toxic ash byproduct, recycling was embraced by
Americans as an effective way to offset rising garbage production rates.
Today, demand for recycled products is beginning to match supply, and the percentage of waste going
into landfills and incinerators is decreasing steadily. In 1970, when Americans produced 121 million
tons of municipal solid waste (MSW), three quarters went directly into landfills, one fifth was

Many if not most of the products we use on a daily basis are made of recyclable materials, including
glass, aluminum, paper, steel, plastic, scrap tires and used oil. And the demand for goods made from
recycled products, despite a lot of ups and downs during the 1980s, has never been higher thanks to a
combination of well conceived industrial/commercial applications and much needed government
purchasing mandates. Indeed, the existence of markets for recyclables has contributed significantly to
recycling s success as a waste disposal alternative.
What makes recycling especially unique is its implementation by local people for local people. In
regards to MSW management, the federal government is relatively hands off, and state governments
have focused more of their attention on landfill and incineration options. As a result, local
communities have come together to initiate recycling efforts; the percolation of their enthusiasm has
led to the widespread acceptance and even encouragement of recycling at both the state and federal
levels.
With recovered materials demanding higher market prices and curbside collection and commercial
recovery on the rise, it is not unrealistic for Americans to expect to see nationwide recycling rates of
thirty five to fifty percent by the turn of

The MPAA likes to advertise that their rating system is entirely voluntary. Virtually, their system is

his film an NC 17, .... They really barely lead the horse to water, so it s tough to take a drink, you just

This board of individuals is almost like the gatekeeper for all films where they can decide the fate of a
film with a label. As a nation we are being robbed of our right to choose the films we want to see and
have our children see, but as individuals what can we do? As an individual one might feel
overwhelmed when discovering an unsettling aspect that may affect our lives. One may think to
themselves what can only one person do to impact a big organization? A way that you can take a step
towards change is to demand it by using your power as a consumer. Take your business away from the
members of the MPAA until they make the changes we need and want. Invest in watching films by
independent distributers, like Sundance. In the world of business, the goal is to profit, we as
consumers hold that power to influence where the market goes, so if we are unhappy they must fix it.
Once the MPAA realizes where their market lies they will make changes to meet consumer need. This
is a key step towards change. One individual making a move leads many more to do the same.

The Pan Africanism For Beginners
The Pan African movement as described in Lemelle s Pan Africanism for Beginners is a set of ideas
and ideologies containing social and cultural, political and economic, material and spiritual aspects.
Each aspect is accompanied by a plethora of historical figures and terms unique to the movement, well
described throughout the text and in the presented glossary. This book makes it easy to understand all
the information accompanying each topic. While it does have its strengths and weaknesses, this book
as a whole creates and explains a diverse scope of information. It describes the beginnings of Pan
Africanism and shows how the beliefs of many influential people have stemmed from notions and
dreams of years passed.
As a learning experience, Lemelle s Pan Africanism for Beginners provides a strong broad base of
knowledge. Instead of concentrating on the specifics of Pan Africanism, this book covers a broad
range of aspects, from the Diaspora to Garveyism to the Harlem Renaissance. Because there are so
many people and movements associated with Pan Africanism, it is nearly impossible to go into detail
about every important event in one book. Even so, Lemelle does a good job at providing enough detail
on each topic, while still conveying how complex Pan Africanism is. By including many facets of Pan
Africanism, Lemelle is able to spark an interest in the reader so that they can continue onto more
specific research. For instance, when Lemelle explained the Conference of

with small contributions from new renewable energy which is solar and biomass. Currently, the
economy already has a 1.2 MW solar power plant and will continue to develop more solar capacity

Wind Only small wind turbines had been developed from 2007 2011. However large wind farms were
implemented in 2012 and 2013, bringing the total installed capacity of 224.5 MW.
WTE The use of municipal solid waste to generate electricity in Thailand began in 2008. Due to
difficulties in project development the growth in this sector remained limited. In 2014 there were less
than 66MW of MSW power plant in Thailand.
Furthermore, electricity prices in Cambodia are very high, thereby opening opportunities for the
development of solar, wind, bio fuel and biogas options. As can be seen in Table 3, it shows the
renewable energy situation in Cambodia. Renewable energy technologies (RETs) will be the most
appropriate way in meeting the energy demand in rural and remote areas of developing countries,
especially in off grid areas. About 85% of the total population lives in the rural areas, the government
of Cambodia is placing great emphasis on the rural electrification, on grid where possible, and off grid
by renewable energy, to raise the living standards of the rural population. Then, Table 3 shows the
scenario of renewable energy resources in Cambodia [17].

European Imperialism In Nineteenth Century
Throughout the Nineteenth Century wealthy European countries engaged to take advantage of poor
African nations. This imperialism was seen as a duty to God and country. Often, there efforts to
colonize less civilised nations resulted in the destruction of families, government, and individuals in
the colonised nations. In White Man s Burden and Things Fall Apart Achebe and Kipling discuss
imperialism in different ways. White Europeans during the Nineteenth Century felt the need to
civilize, people and countries that they thought were uncivilised. Kipling once said, To serve your
captives need (Kipling, 4). Europeans felt a responsibility to spread their culture and increase their
fortunes by collinazation. White Europeans used religion to

Protection Of Extra High Voltage Transmission Line Using...
Protection of Extra High Voltage Transmission Line Using Distance Protection
Introduction: Distance protection is the most widely used to protect transmission lines. The
fundamental principle of distance relaying is based on the local measurement of voltages and currents,
where the relay responds to the impedance between the relay terminal and the fault location [1]. There
are many types of distance relay characteristic such as mho, reactance, admittance, quadrilateral
polarized mho, offset mho etc. Every type of characteristics has different intended function and
theories behind [2].
In order to understanding the function of relays, software relay models must be realized and feasible
alternative to studying the performance of protective relays. Relay models have been long used in a
variety of tasks, such as designing new relaying algorithms, optimizing relay settings. Electric power
utilities use compute based relay models to confirm how the relay would perform during systems
disturbances and normal operating conditions and to make the necessary corrective adjustment on the
relay settings. [3][4]. One of the world wide recognized, powerful analysis software package, is a
MATLAB/SIMULINK, which has the capability for modeling, simulating and analyzing dynamic
systems using SimPowerSystems toolbox, in side Simulink package, different parts of a system such
as three phase transformer, three phase load, distributed parameters line, circuit breaker, etc can

Evolution Of Tigers
Evolution of Tigers
Tigers are amazing creatures that have gone through several evolutionary changes from the beginning
of their species. A modern day tiger is most recognizable for their pattern of dark vertical stripes on
orange fur with a white underside. The largest modern day tiger in record was eleven feet tall and
weighed 387 pounds. In the terms of science tigers are under the classification of roaring tigers and
the scientific name of a tiger is Panthera tigris. But in order to learn about about the evolutionary
changes of the tigers of today; it is important to look at the the core definition of evolution itself and

Girls And Girls By Alice Munro
Throughout the course of time, roles in our society towards gender has evolved. In the story Boys and
Girls by Alice Munro relatively has a direct message which is the constant battle of gender
stereotypes. The audience is reading through the point of view of the main character, which is a girl,
and her frustration she feels. Through the young girl s experience, Alice Munro is able to show the
readers the role of stereotypes or expectations that a female has to fulfill. The main character s mother
believes that the girl is best fit in the kitchen aiding her because she is a female. When her mother
comes in the barn, she tell her father and then I can use her more in the house and goes on to say I just
get my back turned and she runs off. It s not like I had a girl in the family at all (Munro 143). Her
mother makes this statement because she is frustrated by her daughter actions. She wants her daughter
to act similar to a girl and help her in the kitchen instead of doing male work. From the secondary
source entitled Penning in the Bodies: The Construction of Gendered Subjects in Alice Munro s Boys
and Girls by Marlene Goldman she explains the mother behavior in detailed in this part of the story.
Similarly, her mother s behaviour is interpreted, not as an expression of frustration and
disappointment, or loneliness, but as a manifestation of innate wickedness and petty tyranny
(Goldman). Goldman explains that the mother tactics that are used of getting her

Gun Violence Essay
Gun violence is a problem in every nation. Where I came from gun violence is a major problem. I
came from Afghanistan where events such as; people shooting each other, people shooting at a crowd
and killing tens and hundreds of people happens quite usually. But one incident that stuck with me to
this day is the suicide of a young boy near my middle school. When I was around 9 or 10 years old I
remember the day one of my friend s relative s committed suicide using his father s gun. It was the
end of a school day, the street and the area in front of his house were packed with people and cars. The

period of 2010 to 2017, while this rate was 162 days from 2000 to 2010. One of the most recent mass
shooting was the incident that happened in Las Vegas. On October of this year, a gunman opened fire
on a crowd of people at a music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, Nevada. A night that was spouse to be

Clabsi And Clabse Infection
Background or Introduction CLABSI is the acronym for central line associated blood stream infection.
CLABSI are the third leading cause of hospital acquired infection (HAI). Central line associated
infections are life threatening and is a common risk factor associated with central venous catheters
(CVC). Peripherally inserted central catheters are a common type of CVC used. Research is conducted
to determine whether there is a benefit to reducing CLABSI with use of PICC lines that are coated
with antimicrobials. This research compares the impact of chlorhexidine impregnated verses non
chlorhexidine PICC with the risk of CLABSI and VTE development in patients that are immune

The randomization was conducted by a third party responsible for mixing and selecting subjects for
each unit. Daily assessment of the PICC dressing was completed by a study investigator. The selected
groups were assigned to group A, for CHG PICC or B, non CHG PICC. Insertion of all PICC lines
was completed by the PICC insertion team. CDC guidelines were used to diagnose CLABSI with
VTE diagnosis based upon assessment and diagnostic testing. Data Analysis In this study, 167
participants completed the study. The groups were divided into 80 randomized that received PICC
with HCG as the experimental group and 87 randomized that received PICC without HCG as the
control group. An a priori sample size calculation validation using CLABSI infection site from the
three types of patients was used with 30 experimental and 30 controls. The sample was described
using descriptive statistics. The Shapiro Wilk test was used to check for normalcy. To assess for
differences in patient age and duration of PICC line placement the Whitney U test was used. The
Fisher exact test was used to assess for significant differences in post insertion bleeding rate and to
assess for associations between the groups regarding CLASBI, VTE and post insertion bleeding. Use
of the CDC definition of CLABSI as well as utilization of for verification by the infection specialist

Sudden Anger and Founding a Partial Defense to Murder Essay
Sudden Anger and Founding a Partial Defense to Murder Provocation acts as a partial defence to
murder, but only to reduce the conviction to manslaughter. The defence of provocation only becomes
relevant when the prosecution can show evidence that proves that the defendant killed the victim with
the necessary mens rea for murder, that is an intention to kill or an intention to cause grievously bodily
harm .1 If the jury accepts that the defendant may have been provoked to lose his self control and that
a reasonable person may have been provoked to lose his self control and do so as the defendant, they

The alleged provocation was that a neighbour she was visiting produced a knife but not in a
threatening way, but enough so to make her lose her self control, she then snatched the knife and
stabbed the neighbour to death. The Court of Appeal agreed that it was very difficult in such a case to
distinguish between the gravity of the provocation and the accused s capacity for self control which
had been affected by the psychological stress of the violence she had suffered . Tipping J., giving one
of the majority judgments which held that the New Zealand statute on provocation (section 169 of the

The Theory Of Knowledge, Evans And Smith
In presenting their theory of knowledge, Evans and Smith refer to the account of proper functioning as
put forth by Alvin Plantinga. This account is foundational in the development of their own theory,
specifically in regards to their conceptual dissection of what constitutes warrant. However, Plantinga s
account of proper functioning supposes a theistic element that generates a discomfort in Evans and
Smith, such that their own theory of knowledge tries for a secular, or naturalistic, procedure of
understanding proper functions; their desiderata are thus sustainable not by virtue of the existence of a
supernatural creator, but via the basic principles of natural selection. In taking this stance, Evans and
Smith discover themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous accounts of warrant have mishandled proper function, but also: thought experiments in
which it is generally agreed that warrant has not been achieved can be explained, in some manner, by
cognitive malfunction. Proper function can be simply understood, in the general sense, as how
something ought to work, should it be working correctly. The bird s wing should function in a manner
that gives it the ability to fly, as should the heart function by pumping blood. A broken wing that
cannot be used to fly and a heart that does not pump blood are thus both functioning improperly.
Similarly, if we are to have warranted beliefs, we require our cognitive equipment to be functioning in
the proper manner. If we believe we see a red table in front of us, in order to be warranted in that
belief our eyes must be functioning properly, and all of the parts of our brain concerned with the
cognitive processing and realization of this fact must themselves also be functioning properly. Now, it
may be considered that someone is very much justified in believing that there is a red table, but
unbeknownst to themselves, the red table is the mere product of a very strong and irresistible
hallucination. In this case they would not have a warranted belief, as their cognitive apparatus is
behaving inappropriately; the processes

Building a Virtual Team
Organizing the team, developing rules, assigning tasks, following up on tasks
A team comprised of international components presents an interesting challenge in regards to
management. Various problems can potentially arise in regards to organizing the team, developing
rules that govern the team and assigning tasks. One method in which to mitigate all of the above
mentioned rules is by setting performance standards for the entire team to adhere (Alexander, 2000).
One such standard involves the use of a balanced scorecard. A balanced scorecard allows each
individual irrespective of their position within the team to have a core set of standards in which to
abide by. These standards will also include the job function and the roles of each member with the job
function. The scorecard provides an ideal medium in which to judge performance as well. By viewing
the scorecard management can easily pinpoint areas of opportunity and improvement (Blair 2010).
Performance standards are a very integral part in the underlying business operations of any firm.
Competition, particularly from foreign entities is becoming more intense. As such, standards must be
created in order for companies to maintain their competitive advantage over their peers in a particular
industry. One only needs to look at the auto industry to see how a lack of standards and oversight can
be a detriment to business. Many foreign firms, due to competition have entered into the auto market
that was once dominated solely

Anthrax (Bacillus Anthracis) Essay
Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore forming bacterium. The
most common victims of anthrax are warm blooded animals, but it can also infect humans. Anthrax
spores can be produced in a powdery form for biological warfare. When inhaled by humans, these
particles cause respiratory failure and death within a week. Because anthrax is considered to be a
potential agent for use in biological warfare, the Department of Defense (DOD), in 1998, announced it
would begin a systematic vaccination of all U.S. military personnel. (DOD, 1998) Anthrax infection
occurs in three forms: cutaneous (skin), inhalation, and gastrointestinal. B. anthracis spores can

Inhalation: Initial symptoms may resemble a common cold. After several days, the symptoms may
progress to severe breathing problems and shock. Inhalation anthrax usually results in death in 1 2
days after onset of the acute symptoms.
Intestinal: The intestinal disease form of anthrax may follow ingestion of contaminated meat and is
characterized by an acute inflammation of the intestinal tract. Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting and
fever are followed by abdominal pain, vomiting of blood, and severe diarrhea. Intestinal anthrax
results in death in 25% to 60% of cases. The incubation period is usually within seven days. There are
no reports of the disease spreading from human to human. Direct person to person spread of anthrax
most likely does not occur. Once a person has been infected with anthrax and survived, a second bout
with this disease is unlikely.
To treat anthrax, doctors can prescribe antibiotics. Usually penicillin based antibiotics such as Cipro
are preferred, but erythromycin, tetracycline, or chloramphenicol can also be used. To be effective,
treatment should be initiated early. The disease could be fatal if left untreated. (Sofaer, et al, 1999)

Front Porch Campaign Essay
The 1920 presidential election proved to be memorable as well as historically significant for a number
of reasons. This time period is surrounded by important events in American history. It falls directly
after World War I, starts the roaring twenties, and leads the United States into the Great Depression.
Warren G. Harding was elected president over all other candidates, with promises of life going back to
normal conditions. At this point in time, American citizens were desperate for one thing: their old
normal life. The election of 1920 was important because our nation had just gotten out of World War I,
the vote ended in a landslide, and Harding changed the United States for the worse.

it was in before the war. To enforce this promise even more severely, he ran a more personal
campaign. This was called a front porch campaign and it s purpose was to get supporters to come see

he did this was to be contrary to Wilson. Harding wanted to portray himself as calm and collected

River Stinchar Research Paper
The River Stinchar and its tributaries, the ferly burn and the Dalquairne burn show patterns which
follow the Bradshaw Model to a large extent. The typical upper course of a river is narrow in width,
shallow in depth and slow in velocity. The load size is very large and therefore, less of it. The bank
gradients are steep and the discharge levels are low. All these features gradually change as the river
flows downstream. This is shown in figure 2 The location chosen for study is The River Stinchar and
its tributaries which are located in South Ayrshire and flow south west from the Galloway Forest Park
and were chosen due to a previous visit to the area. The location can be seen in figure 1. There is a

with the Stinchar itself which allows for easy access. This location was chosen because the waters
manage to cover the upper, middle and lower course in a small distance making it more efficient to

The Pros And Cons Of UNICEF
Unmistakably, innumerable world events have set the stage for a multitude of moments of peace,
liberty, and justice throughout the globe that have been long awaited for extensive periods of time. The
key formula of momentous changes throughout history have not only been political decisions, but also
the commonly associated aspect of warfare. Together, these often chaotic melting pots of policy and
conflict have paved the way for ending extensive moments of injustice and hardship while also
toppling the authoritative rule of brute dictators such as Adolf Hitler. However, quite commonly the
long fought pathways towards victory and sequential freedom leaves behind a long tail of destruction
and chaos often paid for in the cost of lives, limbs, damaged societies and post traumatic stress
disorder. On the positive side, however, what these long fought battles sometimes give birth to are
organizations and policies that emphasize the necessity of not only preserving peace, but also aiding

Chad Christian Clift Offers Tips About Tandem Skydiving
16. Chad Christian Clift Offers Tips About Tandem Skydiving When Seattle native Chad Christian
Clift is not working tirelessly in a restaurant or traveling, he likes to spend some of his free time sky
diving. This extreme adventure sport has a reputation for being both loved and feared by many. For
those who have already experienced the thrill of falling through the sky, there is no doubt that the
experience is one of a kind. Others, however, have been intrigued by the concept, but are too afraid to
give it a go. Clift explains that a first time sky diving experience does not have to be scary, especially
since it will be a tandem jump. In a tandem sky dive, the person jumping is literally attached via a
harness to professional. When two people tandem sky dive, the professional is the one in charge of the
technicalities of the jump. All the jumper needs to do is spread their arms and enjoy the ride. He says
that sky diving is not hard to do, and really anyone in good health can do it with ease. When you sky
dive, the most complicated part of the trip will be the paperwork that must be filled out prior to
jumping, and getting suited up and harnessed. Special suits are worn to help the professional or
individual diver adjust for wind, drag, and lift. These suits are comfortable, though not very stylish.

Overcoming Adversity In A Trip For Mrs. Taylor
Everyone has experienced adversity at one point in their life, whether it be a final exam or staying
strong while you re going through a rough time. As for many, they assume that running from their
problems is the easy way out when in fact running from your problems may seem easy at the time, but
is a race that can never be won. Instead, we need to face our problems straight on, because the feeling
of conquering a challenge gives us an unexplainable feeling of success. Through the character Mrs.
Taylor, Author Hugh Garner depicts how facing hardships head on, leads to the feeling of
accomplishment in his story, A Trip For Mrs. Taylor . Based on the story and a personal example it s
evident that when an individual faces adversity, they strive to overcome challenges which leads to the
rush of success. In the short story, A Trip for Mrs. Taylor, author Hugh Garner uses Mrs. Taylor to
demonstrate when Mrs. taylor is lonely, how going on a trip helps her to overcome adversity through
the smallest interactions with others which brings upon Mrs. Taylor the feeling of success. From the
start, a reader can infer that Mrs. Taylor feels lonely and goes on a trip to fill the void of solitude. On
the way to the cathedral like station concourse, a young soldier sympathetically helps Mrs. Taylor with
her bags. The soldier was the first person outside of Mrs. Connell and the man at the grocery store,

Why Is Evolution Wrong

Many people question the theory of evolution however, these claims and arguments have many
fallacies that does not justify or prove that evolution is wrong. In my internet expose I have chosen

there is a significant similarity of how fossils record, physical features, and even some behavioral

Increasing the Proportion of Adults at a Healthy Weight
As the world is changing dramatically in terms of the technology that was available a couple of
decades ago, so are the health challenges and threats that we are facing. In the 1980s, the major public
health problems were related to the wide spread presence of infectious diseases. However, in today s
world, the focus has shifted from infectious diseases to chronic diseases. As we dig deeper into
understanding the etiology of the chronic diseases, we notice that obesity has an association with a lot
of them.
To reverse this trend, the Healthy People 2020 has set Increasing the Proportion of Adults at a Healthy
Weight as one of its objectives. Some of the factors that are believed to effect obesity and overweight
are physical activity status and eating healthy. Here, we will be looking at two studies that have tried
to understand people s beliefs and motivation to address this objective.
The first of the two studies was on the association of social support and Body Mass Index (BMI), on
African American women from rural Deep South, conducted by Johnson ER et al. The two
interventions that were looked up at in this study are healthy eating, and exercising. The second study
was about the perceived neighborhood attributes and BMI, among 12

Mitchell v. Lovington Good Samaritan Center, Inc., 555 P.2d 696 (1976).
Facts: The appellee was terminated from the Lovington Good Samaritan Center, Inc. on June 4, 1974.
On June 12, 1974 Mrs. Mitchell applied for unemployment compensation benefits. She was initially
disqualified from seven weeks of benefits by a deputy of the Unemployment Security Commission.
Mrs. Mitchell then filed an appeal, and the Appeal Tribunal reversed the deputy s decision. Mrs.
Mitchell s benefits were reinstated on August 28, 1974. On September 13, 1974 the Center appealed

At issue is whether the misconduct which warranted the termination rose to the level of misconduct
which would warrant the denial of unemployment compensation. Rodman recognizes the last straw
doctrine, but contends that the district court erred in applying the rule in this case because her
infractions on February 15 were the result of third parties over whom she had no control. Rodman
contends that she may not be denied unemployment benefits where the last straw which led to her
termination was not willful or intentional, especially where, under the employer s policy, she could not
have been discharged at all prior to this final incident.
Issue: If substantial evidence existed that Rodman s conduct on February 15, considered in light of the
totality of circumstances including her previous history of personal phone calls and unauthorized
visitors, showed a willful or wanton disregard for her employee s interests, then Rodman s benefits
were properly denied.
Rule: We believe that termination for a series of incidents which, taken together, may constitute
misconduct is distinguishable from termination for a single incident following one or more corrective
action notices. In the latter event, as here, we hold that the last straw must demonstrate a willful or
wanton disregard for the employer s interests for unemployment benefits to be denied.

The Christian Science Monitor journalist Mike Tokars wrote, Sanders and O Malley: Raise Minimum Wage to $15. Is it feasible which talks about how in the democratic debates on Saturday, November 14, Bernie Sanders and Martin O Malley agreed that raising the Federal minimum wage to $15 would be a stimulant to the economy and give the people of the United States more disposable income. This article also shows that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton disagrees and suggests that would create more job loss and a higher unemployment rate. If you look at the Republican side and Democratic Hillary Clinton who is more conservative regarding economic policies this article supports the notion that the Federal Reserve believes higher minimum wage will create structural unemployment and will result in a higher unemployment rate over ... This ecosystem is called the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS). FGBNMS is a coral reef that monitored and preserved by NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA sees the FGBNMS as a valuable natural resource that we need to protect. The intent of this memo is to identify the resources that FGBNMS provides, what policies are in place to protect those resources, what effect these policies have had, and what actions to take from this point forward. Fortunately, the policies regarding this natural resource are accomplishing the goal of protecting this reef, so I do not recommend to many changes to the existing policies, except for a few slight changes. • 7. Relationship Between A Manufacturer And A Distributor Writing Assignment #2 The relationship between a manufacturer and a distributor is a crucial part in the success of a business alliance or partnership. It is necessary to pay close attention to the relationship between manufacturers and distributors in terms of trust, alliances and conflict. Manufacturers and distributors should select each other appropriately and wisely because each member of the supply chain has different expectations for the other. The most common two paths for a manufacturer to enter the market through distribution are exclusively and non exclusively. Information on relations and channel paths is significant because it will be easier be able to include them in my other projects and classes throughout the rest of academic and professional careers. The most vital concepts I learned in IDIS 340 is how important it is for manufacturers and distributors to choose the right business partners. Market share is the main driver for manufacturers, so they must turn their attention to distributors that have a wide range of access to the market. Profitability is the primary focus of distributors so they should choose manufacturers that have a strong market brand, supply the appropriate products to meet the market s demands, and offers a technical sales team. Sharing common goals and visions is perhaps the most significant element in choosing how to align a manufacturer and distributor. After aligning with proper distributors, manufacturers have expectations that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Standard Of Living During The Industrial Revolution... Henry Ziegler 10044371 Prof. Frank Lewis ECON 231 Thursday, November 20, 2014 Analysis on the Standard of Living in the Industrial Revolution Debate Before the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain s economy relied heavily on agriculture, which at that point of time was based a flawed system dating back to the Middle Ages. This system, known as the open field system, showed agricultural inefficiencies, and was disallowing of innovation. These inefficiencies eventually led to the privatization of land for agriculture, in an effort to solve what is now commonly referred to as the tragedy of the commons . Great Britain was now moving forward, and as the country (and continent) began enclosing their land, Britain began a period of modernization, with new technologies that would increase productivity in industry to a level never before seen. This is the period commonly referred to as the Industrial Revolution, and was an era of unprecedented growth in industry from the middle of the 18th century until around the middle of the 19th century. In 1760, 53% of the British population worked in agriculture. By 1840, that had dropped to 29%. The evolution from water and wind power to steam engines, as well as the creation of many pieces of machinery for the textile industry (such as the Spinning Jenny, which reduced the production time on yarn) vastly improved British manufacturing of goods, and the reliance on agriculture continued to drop. • 14. Squaws And Nobel Maidens American Indians have been stereotyped in different forms of media for entertainment purposes for centuries. The male stereotypes, such as the Nobel Savage, are widely known in literature. American Indian women have also fallen victim to their own set of stereotypes. Two common labels regarding American Indian women are Squaws, and Nobel Maidens. European Americans have done their best to pigeonhole American Indians into these stereotypes, however, American Indian women are more complex than that. History dictates that these women had many roles in their respective tribes to include prominent positions. Since Europeans first arrived in the Americas in the late 1400s, they viewed American Indian relationships through their own cultural biases. Women were observed working alongside men, each contributing to the good of the tribe. Through the lens of cultural bias, Europeans immediately labeled these women as slaves, who were no better than animals. The early settlers failed to recognize that women were seen as equal to their male counterparts. Each sex had their own set of tasks, but all tasks were valued without one out weighing another (Lajimodiere, 2013). The slave stereotype continued to be perpetuated for centuries and became synonymous with the term Squaw. It infected the way American Indian women were treated by white men not only in the media, but in real life as well. Today, demand for recycled products is beginning to match supply, and the percentage of waste going into landfills and incinerators is decreasing steadily. What makes recycling especially unique is its implementation by local people for local people. In regards to MSW management, the federal government is relatively hands off, and state governments have focused more of their attention on landfill and incineration options. Protection of Extra High Voltage Transmission Line Using Distance Protection Introduction: Distance protection is the most widely used to protect transmission lines. The fundamental principle of distance relaying is based on the local measurement of voltages and currents, where the relay responds to the impedance between the relay terminal and the fault location [1]. There are many types of distance relay characteristic such as mho, reactance, admittance, quadrilateral polarized mho, offset mho etc. Every type of characteristics has different intended function and theories behind [2]. CLABSI are the third leading cause of hospital acquired infection (HAI). Central line associated infections are life threatening and is a common risk factor associated with central venous catheters (CVC). Peripherally inserted central catheters are a common type of CVC used. Research is conducted to determine whether there is a benefit to reducing CLABSI with use of PICC lines that are coated with antimicrobials. This account is foundational in the development of their own theory, specifically in regards to their conceptual dissection of what constitutes warrant. However, Plantinga s account of proper functioning supposes a theistic element that generates a discomfort in Evans and Smith, such that their own theory of knowledge tries for a secular, or naturalistic, procedure of understanding proper functions; their desiderata are thus sustainable not by virtue of the existence of a supernatural creator, but via the basic principles of natural selection. Previous accounts of warrant have mishandled proper function, but also: thought experiments in which it is generally agreed that warrant has not been achieved can be explained, in some manner, by cognitive malfunction. Proper function can be simply understood, in the general sense, as how something ought to work, should it be working correctly. The bird s wing should function in a manner that gives it the ability to fly, as should the heart function by pumping blood. A broken wing that cannot be used to fly and a heart that does not pump blood are thus both functioning improperly. Similarly, if we are to have warranted beliefs, we require our cognitive equipment to be functioning in the proper manner. If we believe we see a red table in front of us, in order to be warranted in that belief our eyes must be functioning properly, and all of the parts of our brain concerned with the cognitive processing and realization of this fact must themselves also be functioning properly. Now, it may be considered that someone is very much justified in believing that there is a red table, but unbeknownst to themselves, the red table is the mere product of a very strong and irresistible hallucination. Various problems can potentially arise in regards to organizing the team, developing rules that govern the team and assigning tasks. One method in which to mitigate all of the above mentioned rules is by setting performance standards for the entire team to adhere (Alexander, 2000). One such standard involves the use of a balanced scorecard. A balanced scorecard allows each individual irrespective of their position within the team to have a core set of standards in which to abide by. These standards will also include the job function and the roles of each member with the job function. The scorecard provides an ideal medium in which to judge performance as well. By viewing the scorecard management can easily pinpoint areas of opportunity and improvement (Blair 2010). Performance standards are a very integral part in the underlying business operations of any firm. Competition, particularly from foreign entities is becoming more intense. As such, standards must be created in order for companies to maintain their competitive advantage over their peers in a particular industry. Instead, we need to face our problems straight on, because the feeling of conquering a challenge gives us an unexplainable feeling of success. Through the character Mrs. Taylor, Author Hugh Garner depicts how facing hardships head on, leads to the feeling of accomplishment in his story, A Trip For Mrs. Taylor .
