Bolshevik Collectivism In Mayakovsky
A work of art is so often, from its inception, a personal creation; and something which is created from
the artist s perception often inevitably becomes a meditation on his inescapable selfhood. Following
the revolution, Russia was marked by a burgeoning utilitarian ideal and a collectivism which
proclaimed, one for all. The 1920s Bolshevik leadership sought to reemploy the avant garde artists
with the aims of instilling the masses with a proletarian mentality. A conflict between the individual
identity and the Bolshevik collectivism threatened to compromise the artist s values and unique
aesthetic aims.
A prime example of this internal discord is illustrated in the works of Mayakovsky. At the outset of
post revolutionary Russia, the poet voices his annoyance at having to make propagandistic posters in
his 1920 poem An Extraordinary Adventure . Ultimately, however, he discovers the merits of this
seemingly uninspiring task by the end of the poem.
These agitprop posters were one of the most ubiquitous resources the government used to educate and
culture the masses. At this point the Bolsheviks were convinced that the values inherent in science and
the arts were congenial to the principles of socialism. Culture was to be a helpmate in the building of
socialism (Kenez, 65). The posters were extremely effective, for they spoke even to the illiterate. Their
content educated, while their modernist style cultured.
Several years later, however, Mayakovsky seems to revert

Innovative Approaches to Corporate Management
Innovative approaches to Corporate Management
Felipe Guadalupe Innovative approaches to Corporate Management
A company is only as strong as its weakest link. In order for it to succeed in today s competitive
market, the company will have to depend on the acquisition and application of good, relevant
knowledge on which to base its decisions. For that to happen, good and sound decision making has to
be a part of everyday business. Therefore, corporate managers have taken innovative approaches to
corporate management by creating consistency and unity towards a purpose, along with an
environment where both the company and employees can excel.
Experienced managers have come to realize how they impact their subordinates and that most ... Show

He gave them full reign over the ship by establishing three rules. The crew could not do anything that
would damage the ship, hurt themselves or others, or waste taxpayers money.
In the end it would pay off. The ship s retention went from 20% to 100%. That team spirit had finally
unfolded to show a display of new founded camaraderie through out the ship which helped earn them
the Spokane Trophy for the best ship in the Pacific Fleet.
It is important to exhibit and practice good leadership qualities to have people willingly follow your
instructions. Companies not only need good leaders, they need good managers as well to controls
resources and expenditures to allow the company to prosper. There are many different models of
management strategy that corporate management can follow to assist them in helping their company
evolve. Process based management, corporate entrepreneurship, and Total Quality Management
(TQM) are some of them, just to name a few.
Process based management deals with how companies provide products and services to their
customers. It focuses on five areas to help develop longevity for the company. First is promoting a
process based culture, where people are trained in the mindset of learning a process so that they do not
even have to think about what they are doing, they just react to a learned behavior. Second, there is
managing end to end business processes. Here is where the focus is on how to improve on the process

Briony In Ian Mcewan s Atonement
Storytellers are the God of their universe. Seeking atonement for them is nearly impossible without
belief in a higher being. In Ian McEwan s novel Atonement, Briony, a 13 year old fanciful storyteller,
misjudges a series of events that have repercussions on the lives of others. Consequently, she spends a
lifetime attempting atonement through storytelling. Brian Finney explains that Briony attempts to use
fiction to correct the errors that fiction caused her to commit (69). Briony s obsession with fiction
assists her in entering the minds of others and therefore attempting atonement for something that
cannot be reversed. In Joe Wright s adaptation of Ian McEwan s novel Atonement, he manipulates
sound effects, setting, and plot to stay true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McEwan explain Briony s though process on writing: To enter a mind and show it at work, or being
worked on, and to do this within a symmetrical design this would be an artistic triumph (265). Briony
is obsessed with writing a new kind if fiction where entering other people s minds is a success. Wright
stays true to this idea by changing the setting of London 1999. Instead of attending her birthday party,
Briony attends a TV interview discussing her book because most of London 1999 comes from inside
Briony s head so the TV interview gives Briony the opportunity to share her thoughts. In this
interview, all the pieces finally come together as Briony reveals the truth that she made up their
thoughts. Wright stays true the heart of the novel because Briony gives Robbie and Cecilia their
happiness by writing from their points of view. Briony explains in the novel: I like to think that it isn t
my weakness or evasion, but a final act of kindness, a stand against oblivion and despair, to let my
lovers live and to unite them at the end (351). Briony gives them their happiness by her storytelling.
Harry Haun explains that The ending was one of the most difficult things, because it comes after the
storytelling and turns into an intellectual study of the narrative. (2). It is hard for the watcher to grasp
the reality after finishing the story. Although

The Importance Of A Business Continuity And Disaster...
There is need to ensure that there is continuity of information and adequate recovery of the same in
business continuity planning and disaster recovery processes. Individuals and firms therefore have to
improve their incident response capability in light of increasing attacks that are cyber security related.
These attacks have become diverse and more disruptive while causing greater damage. The number of
security related incidents cannot be completely reduced, but the incident response capability of
individuals and firms can be improved to enable them to detect incidents promptly, minimize loss,
mitigate any weaknesses exploited during such incidents and restore information and IT services back
to normal (NIST 2012). The objective of this essay is to outline the importance of having a business
continuity and disaster recovery plan for information systems, the technical and managerial challenges
that can be faced and solutions that can be used to solve the same.
It is important to have business continuity plan and disaster recovery for information systems since
these attacks often target business data and sometimes personal data. It also enables an individual or a
firm to have an automatic way of responding to incidents in a systematic way using laid down
methodology. This is key in reducing the theft or loss of information that would have occurred. In
addition, it reduces the time in which services are disrupted due to these incidents.
The other reason why business

A Study On Diabetes Mellitus
Part A 1. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (previously described as non insulin dependent diabetes) is a
condition due to hyperglycemia that accompanies a relative rather than an absolute insulin deficiency.
It appears as a consequence of the alteration (genetically inherited or acquired) of insulin secretion,
sometimes associated with peripheral insulin resistance.
Impaired ability to absorb certain macronutrients such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins can lead to
a large spectrum of chronic complications that involve more or less all tissues of the human body.
Globally, an estimated 422 million adults are living with diabetes mellitus, according to the latest 2016
data from the World Health Organization. Diabetes Mellitus affects an estimated 29.1 million people
in the United States and is the 7th leading cause of death.
T2DM includes a heterogeneous group of diseases that associate in different degrees two major
metabolic defects: beta cell insulin secretion defect and insulin resistance of the peripheral tissues.
Obesity and insulin resistance are characteristic for the majority (80 90%) of T2DM cases (Obese
T2DM). The sine qua non condition for the progression from the preclinical phases (prediabetes) to
the overt hyperglycemia stages is represented by the presence of the insulin secretion beta cell defect.
A lack of compensation for insulin resistance will lead to evolution towards T2DM. The first sign of

Blue Zone Research Paper
Not only is it important to have healthy friends and family, but it s important to keep in touch with
them. Blue zones are areas around the world where it isn t uncommon for people to live past 100.
These areas include Sardinia, Italy; Ikaria, Greece; Okinawa, Japan; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Loma
Linda, California. Researchers around the world have found similarities between the blue zones with
the biggest similarities being diet and socialization. Almost all centenarians (people who live over
100) have set family as their biggest priorities. Family members talk to each other almost every day,
take care of one another, and generally love each other. Nursing homes do not exist in blue zones
because people are expected to take care of the elderly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the future, doctors will be able to expand on this with the growing field of proteomics. Proteomics
is the study of all the proteins that can be found in a cell and, therefore, an organism. Amino acids are
the chemical units of proteins and are considered to be the building blocks of life. They are important
in almost every function a cell does within itself and the entire organism. Blood circulates through our
entire bodies which means the proteins in our blood have reflected everything that is happening in the
human body. This means an infection in a person s foot, can be seen through the proteins in blood
drawn from the arm. The potential power of proteomics is mind blowing. With proteomics, doctors
can find any disease, disorder, or any other problem just by examining a single drop of blood. Instead
of running dozens of different tests to find out what is wrong with someone, all a doctor has to do is
draw the patient s blood, send it to the lab, and wait for the results (Agus 110 112). This will save a lot
of time and money for the patient as well as helping him/her improve her medical condition.
Hopefully, in the years to come, scientists and doctors can finally combine the fields of proteomics
and medicine for the benefit of billions of people around the

Joplin s Influence On American Culture
The 1960s in America were a time of turbulence, and due to the Cold War, political assassinations,
racial violence, and a developing hippie subculture the decade was essentially an all inclusive. Every
American s life was affected by the radical change taking place during the 1960s, moreover one young
woman from Port Arthur, Texas, embodied everything that the decade would come to be known for.
Alice Echols s book Scars of Sweet Paradise: The Life and Times of Janis Joplin covers Janis Joplin
who was an outrageous and out of control rock singer and song writer who attempted to break through
the restrictions of society. Though Joplin had an impact on changing of social norms, she was
originally withheld by her family and later herself. The limitations ... Show more content on

Port Arthur s features included graft, gambling, and prostitution, but also racism was so much a part of
the town s fabric that nigger knocking was a pastime among white teens. If anywhere could teach a
young adult by example that racism was morally incorrect then Port Arthur was the prime location
with its multitude of examples. Joplin s parents were also a major factor in the limiting of Janis s life.
Janis and her mother, Dorothy, disagreed consistently, moreover Dorothy would disapprove nearly
anytime Janis attempted to express her individualism. Dorothy stated that she wanted Janis to be like
everybody else. A minor victory for Dorothy was when Janis went to college and found the university
required freshmen and sophomore girls to live in dorms... presided over by watchful house mothers.
Joplin was being oppressed at home by her mother, yet exposed to the harsh realities of the world by
her hometown which made Janis grow into a very unique person. Janis continued this repressive trend

Mesa Verde National Park On The Colorado Plateau
Mesa Verde National Park on the Colorado Plateau contains many geological aspects of interest,
including its sedimentary rock layers, its canyons, its alcoves utilized by ancient people and how these
alcoves were formed. Mesa Verde National Park is located in the southwest corner of Colorado, close
to the Four Corners area, on top of a high mesa overlooking the Mancos River (Harris et al. 2004).
The park, covering 81 square miles, consists of several main sedimentary formations that are
characteristic to the park (Encyclopedia Britannica 2015). Canyons are carved into the sedimentary
rock, with the cave dwellings found high on their steep walls. These dwellings are an especially
unique aspect to the Mesa Verde National Park, and are built out of large alcoves. The alcoves were
produced by weathering and erosion of the sedimentary rock type. To better understand how these
alcoves formed, we must understand the geology of Mesa Verde National Park and how it has
developed over history.
First, we must examine the sedimentary formations; when they were formed, how they were formed,
and what materials they consist of. About ninety three to one hundred million years ago, the Western
Interior Seaway rolled through the North American continent, eventually reaching the geographical
area of today s Mesa Verde National Park (National Park Service 2005). This sea deposited a thick,
hard sandstone base that is called Dakota Sandstone, although this layer is not exposed in the park

Living downtown (with or without a home), going to school downtown, or using public transportation
are all ways in which someone could consider themselves a member. The influence of downtown is
great. Downtown is a major hub for many businesses, governmental offices and organized rallies,
protests, parades and many other oranized events. Some people come here to do their shopping of for
entertainment; thus fulfilling their needs. Downtown Portland is also a major tourist attraction for
surrounding cities in Oregon and Washington. Finally, there is an emotional connection that many
people have to downtown Portland because of everything it has to offer. Since it is a major spot in
Portland, it is a central meeting place for thousands of people every day who go to meet with friends
and family members, therefore creating memories in the area. Conclusions From the evidence
gathered from our group, we have concluded that downtown Portland appeals more to the younger
generation in terms of living there. With the abundance of smaller living quarters, third spaces and
plenty of service jobs than there are white collar careers, most people, after earning a degree and
establishing a career, tend to move outside of the city in order to start their families. However, with the
abundance of green spaces, cultural offerings and tax free shopping, downtown Portland excels in

Communities Essay
Communitites
When most people talk about community, they think of a location, an area in which people live. By
definition community is a group of people living in the same location and under the same government.
Community can also be defined as a group of people with the same common interests or segments in
society. However, these definitions, which can be found in any dictionary, are only the tip of the
iceberg when it comes to explaining what community really is. Community is the memories and
traditions of a certain area, as well as the interactions and responsibilities of its members. In order to
truly belong to a community people must follow a set of values. These communal values are needed to
provide stability among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times it is the responsibility of the community to speak out about problems. Communities are
the only effective power that can limit consumption, pollution, and the degradation of nature
(Ehrenfeld 21). A program such as Neighborhood Watch is a good example of people coming together
on a community level to fix and prevent problems.
Another aspect of good community, which can be seen in farm communities, is the idea of
stewardship and treatment of the land. In the past, the communal system in farm communities was that
everyone relied on each other for survival. Then with the introduction of modern economic systems,
that was drastically changed in some areas. Farmers then relied more on making a profit and getting
the most money out of their land. David Kline represented his ideas that one must be a steward to the
mysteries of god (39). This example of how farm communities have changed resembles some of the
problems facing large rural communities today.
One major problem with communities today is that people frequently move between different areas
where every house looks identical. Such communities are like packaged communities and lack
dynamism. Harry W. Paige would call people living in packaged communities, the rootless ones,
because they lack a sense of place and belonging. Paige also expresses the idea of retirement
communities and how they can never mimic the real feeling of home. Even if they claim to be living

This is a familiar scene in the northernmost part of Ghana, which according to the Ghana Poverty
Reduction Strategy II, suffers from extreme poverty. These northern regions have the highest levels of
malnutrition and stunting among children, the highest child morbidity and mortality rates, the most
recurrent cases of guinea worm and other water borne diseases, and not surprisingly, the lowest school
enrollment and completion rates especially among girls.
Healthier Children Stay in School
To respond to these needs, CRS began a School Health Education Program (SHEP) in partnership

funded as part of a United States Agency for International Development Title II grant, is designed to
improve the health and nutritional status of preschool and primary school children in northern Ghana.
Providing these children with a safe, hygienic school environment and meeting their basic health
needs increases the likelihood that they will enroll in, attend and complete primary school. This is a
strategic priority of CRS education work: improving access and equity for vulnerable populations.

The 5 points help shape how people perceive Christian Laettner in the past and in the present. I

that Laettner came from a lower, middle class, blue collar family, but when people think of Duke

Emmy Noether Research Papers
When I hear the word mathematician , I normally think of Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton. Notice
how Einstein and Newton are men? Unfortunately most people do not think of any female
mathematicians when they hear that crazy M word. My point of view on mathematicians has changed
drastically due to doing this paper. Instead of thinking of Einstein and Newton, I will think of the great
Emmy Noether. She was a mathematician, professor, and, most importantly, a friend to students. In
this paper, I will discuss her childhood, adulthood, education, major life events, and her mathematical
contributions to the green and blue globe we call home. Emmy had a pretty educational childhood.
Born on March 23, 1882, Amalie Emmy Noether was the eldest of four children (McGrayen 67). The
three boys, Emmy, and their parents lived in the small university of Erlangen, Germany (McGrayen
67). The Noether family was Jewish a family. Emmy s mother, Ida Amalia Kaufmann, came from a
wealthy, wholesale merchant family (McGrayen 67). Her father, Max Noether, worked trade but left to

At Gӧttingen, she worked with outstanding mathematicians like Hermann Minkowski, Felix Klein,
and David Hilbert (Maisel). Noether began working with Klein and Hilbert on Einstein s general
relativity theory (Maisel). Then, in 1918 she verified two theorems that were basic for both general
relativity and elementary particle physics (Maisel). One of the theorems is still known as Noether s
Theorem today (Maisel). Even with her major contributions to mathematics and the University of
Gӧttingen, Emmy was not allowed to join the faculty because of her gender (Maisel). Instead of being
an official staff member, Noether lectured as David Hilbert s assistant and under his name (Maisel).
Albert Einstein and Hilbert stood behind Emmy and helped her to get the chance to lecture under her

Helicopter Parenting Research Paper
Protective parents have been around forever, but has it reached its extremity? Helicopter parenting is
the newest trend in today s society, it is a way of raising children in a very stern, controlled, and
structured manner. Helicopter parents control their children s lives with strict rules and often complete
tasks for the children that are unnecessary all to protect their children. This child raising strategy most
often incorporates an element of babying , such as making their teenager s lunch for them every day,
doing their child s homework and projects for them, and not letting their child go anywhere alone even
when they are in well into their teen years. The effects of helicopter parenting have an enormous
physical and psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who have helicopter parents never learn to be accountable for their actions because their
parents constantly did everything for them. They have a fear of failure, a lack of confidence, and co
dependency issues (Blau). The children also, as a result of being sheltered by their parents, have
decreased confidence and self esteem, undeveloped coping skills, increased anxiety, a sense of
entitlement, and undeveloped life skills. These children are just not capable of doing things for
themselves and this leads to many issues later in life. However, helicopter parenting is not always a
horrible thing. Studies have shown that physical abuse has dropped astonishingly, from 1992 to 2011
the rates dropped by 55%. The same thing happened to counts of sexual abuse, it fell by 64% through
the same year range. The number of abductions by strangers fell by 51% from 1997 to 2012, and
motor vehicle deaths of children under 13 years of age fell 43% in the last decade (Baer). This study
equates the drops to the rise of helicopter parents. Although counts of physical harm have dropped, an
in depth study was done by Florida State University that surveyed around 460 college students about
their life satisfaction levels. Those who had been raised by parents who gave them a larger sense of
autonomy reported higher levels of satisfaction in life and those who reported having helicopter
parents reported low levels of self efficacy, and higher levels of anxiety and depression ( Helicopter
Parents ). So, even though accidents and physical harm to children have been reduced, the
psychological harm is quite prominent and will follow the child throughout their

The Media s Influence On Media Coverage
Introduction
According to Wikipedia website state a media circus is a news event where the media coverage is
perceived to be out of proportion to even being to be covered. Examples of media circuses include the
Sandy Hook School Shooting, Casey Anthony Trial, and Kitty Genovese Murder. However, one of the
media circus that the media has been focusing on is Miley Cyrus. Miley Cyrus is seen as one of the
outrageous celebrities who caused the media to symbolize her as a promiscuous in the media and is
therefore seen as a norm violator.

Norm Violation #1 Over the years, Miley Cyrus has made insolent, racist comments during her

nation of immigrants. Much less at a young age, one learns to treat others the way one wants to be
treated with respect, regardless of skin color, so forth. The media have portrayed this norm violation
towards Miley Cyrus, which has received negative backlash. If people look at Miley Cyrus Don t Stop

appropriation. According to Splicetoday, during an interview with Professor Akil Houston, Wilbert L.
Cooper identified what Miley Cyrus did in her Don t Stop music video as a hand gesture that indicates

give criticisms about Miley Cyrus using the term mammy. For example, Chance the Rapper, a

Differences Between The Fingerprint Of Identical Twins
Investigate explanations for the formation of differences between the fingerprint of identical twins
Human fingerprints are peculiar, unique, detailed, difficult to change, can be said that it cannot be
changed throughout the life except some accident such as bruises or cutting on fingertips (Jain,
Prabhakar, and Pankanti, 2001). Fingerprints are the pattern of the crease at put fingertips. They are
durable over the life of an individual, furthermore, it is a representative symbol as the person.
Everyone has a different pattern of dactylogram and each dactylogram is the one and only the one in
the world, it will not repeat or find the same fingerprint from another person even in your own finger
(Wertheim, 2011). It s impossible for people to have identical fingerprints, said Mr. Jones, who now
works as a private consultant in Summerfield, Fla. The study of fingerprints has been around for about
a hundred years, and in all that time, two people have never been found to have the same prints.
(Connor, 2014) Because of its distinctiveness, fingerprints are widely used in recognizing the identity
of the person and it is very accurate to distinguish their identification. For instance, the smartphone
such as iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6Plus are using their fingerprints to unlock their own phone.

Abercrombie And Fitch Case Summary
When Samantha Elauf went in for her job interview with Abercrombie Fitch, she wore the headscarf
traditional for a practicing Muslim. During the interview, her headscarf was not mentioned or

after considering that she had most likely worn the headscarf for religious reasons and that it would be
in violation of the store s Look Policy.
The Look Policy at Abercrombie Fitch violates the wearing of caps stating that this look is too

Etiological Theories And Social Implications Essay
Etiological Theories and Social Implications In this earliest period of recognition, people in the
psychiatric community began to formulate theories as to why children developed conditions like
autism and schizophrenia. Some theorized about the possibility of a genetic predisposition early on,
but the ideas of some influential figures in the field proposed theories with rather damaging
implications (Donvan, 2016). Kanner himself initially thought that autism was a result of a distant
mother (Silberman, 2015). Finn writes of Bruno Bettelheim, a controversial figure who widely
propagated this previously synthesized refrigerator mother theory. The causative crux, it was
proposed, was cold ideation and behavior of mothers in regards to their children. He and some others
believed that negative emotions on part of mothers about the existence of their children, even
subconscious ones, caused these children to retreat into themselves for protection. Bettelheim, having
been victimized by the Nazis, reported that he had seen withdrawn behaviors expressed by others
suffering in the camp that very closely resembled the withdrawn and self comforting behaviors of
children with autism and schizophrenia (1997). It seemed reasonable to him that these behaviors
stemmed from a severe insult to a child s sense of safety and trust in his mother. The patent result of
such a proposal is the stigmatization of parents of children with autism. Given the severe
stigmatization of autism and

Since 1950 s, contemporary dance practitioners, both modern and post modern choreographic
artists/dancers, have worked with a group of dancers as a small community or social group to create
group works. This essay will discuss and reflect on the precise nature of the working and decision
making relationships amongst the choreographer and the dancers; what the group dances looked like,
or how the choreographies composed the group on stage; nature of the studio and rehearsal processes
and processes of transmission of corporeal values; and lastly, how the group worked together in terms
of pay and conditions and how and where they rehearsed and performed. Using, internationally
recognised choreographers Merce Cunningham and Twyla Tharp, I will discuss these questions on the
processes of group dances by how these choreographers worked and developed a group of dancers.

Irony In Albert Camus The Plague
The central irony in The Plague lies in Camus treatment of freedom. The citizens of Oran become
prisoners of the plague when their city falls under total quarantine, but it is questionable whether they
were really free before the plague. Their lives were strictly regimented by an unconscious enslavement
to their habits. Moreover, it is questionable whether they were really alive. It is only when they are
separated by quarantine from their friends, lovers and families that they most intensively love them.
Before, they simply took their loved ones for granted.
Camus philosophy is an amalgam of existentialism and humanism. An atheist, Camus did not believe
that death, suffering, and human existence had any intrinsic moral or rational meaning. Because he did
not believe in God or an afterlife, Camus held that human beings, as mortals, live under an
inexplicable, irrational, completely absurd death sentence. Nevertheless, Camus did believe that
people are capable of giving their lives meaning. The most meaningful action within the context of
Camus philosophy is to choose to fight death and suffering. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Stop And Frisk And The New York City Police Department Essay
Introduction In the 1990s, the growth of violent crime reached its all time high. In reply to the number
of high murder rates in 1990, the New York City Police Department realized that whatever they are
doing to reduce violent was not working. The local news reported that New Yorkers were afraid to
wear their jewelry in public. Some New Yorkers reported that they sprint to the subway exit to avoid
victimization when the door opened. The New York City Police Department decided to implement a
practice of Stop, Question, and Frisk. This law became to know as the Stop and Frisk (Bellin, 2014).
Stop and Frisk was a method that was implemented by the New York City Police Department in which
an officer stops a pedestrian and asked them a question, and then frisks them for any weapon or
contraband (Rengifo Slocum, 2016). By the last 1990, Stop and Frisk became a common practice
implemented by New York City Police Department (Bellin, 2014). The framework of Stop and Frisk
started in 1968 in a case known as Terry v. Ohio. This was a landmark case that gave law enforcement
the constitutional limitations by the United States Supreme Court to stop and search individuals in
streets encounters for weapon or contraband (Rengifo Slocum, 2016). In 1996, the Anthony General,
Eliot Spitzer opened an investigation to assess the effectiveness of Stop and Frisk on the minority
communities in New York City. The assessment involved looking at 175,000 UF 250 Forms from

The part of linguistics that studies the language of literature is termed LITERARY STYLISTICS. It
focuses on the study of linguistic features related to literary style. 9.1 Theoretical background Our
pursuit of style, the most elusive and fascinating phenomenon, has been enhanced by the constant
studies of generations of scholars, Style , the phenomenon, has been recognized since the days of
ancient rhetoric; stylistic , the adjective, has been with us since 1860; stylistics , the field, is perhaps
the creation of bibliographers. (Dolores Burton, 1990) Helmut Hatzfeld was the first biographer of

In this section, we shall briefly discuss the grammatical and semantic aspects. 9.2.1 Foregrounding
and grammatical form Consider the following examples, both of which describe inner city decay in
the U.S. The first is from the Observer (29 November 1995) : ex.9 1 The 1960 dream of high rise
living soon turned into a nightmare. In this sentence, there is nothing grammatically unusual or
deviant in the way the words of the sentence are put together. However, in the following verse from a
poem, the grammatical structure seems to be much more challenging, and makes more demands on
our interpretative processing of these lines: ex.9 2 Four storeys have no windows left to smash But in
the fifth a chipped sill buttresses Mother and daughter the last mistresses Of that black block
condemmed to stand, not crash. The sentence in line 2 of this verse that starts with But in the fifth is
unusual in that the predicate of the sentence is made up of a sequence of embedded elements, as we
can see if we write them out in a full form: A chipped sill buttresses mother and daughter who are the
last mistresses of that black block which is condemned to stand, not crash. Furthermore, the main verb
in this sentence is buttress. This word can be either a noun or a verb, but we would argue that it is
more likely to occur as a noun in less literary contexes. In literary texts,

Chain Of Fools Analysis
Chain of Fools was released in late 67 and was recorded in Atlantics New York Recording studio. It
was produced by Jerry Wexler, and engineered by Tom Dowd. Signature elements to the song include
Joe Souths signature guitar playing, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm section and Aretha Franklins powerful
vocal performance. Drums: My drum rerecord feature a mono overhead, a kick out, snare bottom, a
close room and a far room mic placed in the kitchen outside the studio to amplify the size of the space.
The song features a very dry drum sound, but features a spacious reverb layered on top. This is
possibly a plate or chamber reverb that was used on the other tracks in the song. Claps were also
added and hard panned to replicate that of the song. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the vocals, there was a lack of presence due to the use of less exciting preamps and vocal mic at
home, a much softer performance, and a lot of frequency content above 10 kHz (possibly due to the
Rode mic used, as well as the modern stock preamp on my home interface). So an eq was used to
match the vintage vocal sound on the recording. Whilst the song was released in both mono and
stereo, the stereo version features a use of LCR panning which includes bass keys panned to the left,
and drums and lead guitar panned to the right. Light saturation and distortion has been added to the
vocal parts to provide the dirt and thickness found on the song due to the hardware initially used.
Aretha was quoted by producer David Isaac as one who could work the mic, moving back and forth to
control dynamics organically. This was compensated with some compression on the rerecorded vocals.
The drums in the initial recording are punchy, tight and have a low end thump to the kick and the
snare. This was mostly due to the tuning of the drums, as well as the performance on the recording.
However for where I couldn t get the sound right, I used EQ to darken the snare, and added a mix bus

crying and asking, God where are you? . She looks depressed and emotional because God did not
come see her, and he usually does. That day Marji and her friends demonstrated in the garden, and

Monroe Doctrine In Early American History
The Monroe doctrine is an exemplary piece of work that has helped the U.S. throughout history, and
will most likely continue helping us in the future. These assistances from the Monroe doctrine include:
keeping European settlers out in early American history when the document was made, helped us
expand to the west, and allowed us to defend Cuba from the Russians. In early American history there
was a lot of conflict between European powers, and the U.S. mostly for their interference in the
American ways of life and constantly creating settlements on our land. Once the Monroe document
was made, it struck the nerve of those European domestic disturbers and gave us the right to stop those
hinder some acts. Sure while we would have eventually ended up doing the same thing the Monroe
document did not only make it legal but started that process a lot ... Show more content on

In 1836 the U.S. used the Monroe doctrine to deny the British an alliance with the shiny, new republic
of Texas. Then on December, second, 1845, president James Polk told congress that the Monroe
document should be strictly enforced and we should rapidly move west eliminating all resistance until
we own all of the new world. In 1842 president John Tyler applied this document to Hawaii forcing
the British to end interference and then began bringing Hawaii to the U.S. states. Again in 1852,
politicians used the Monroe documents to take the Spanish out of Cuba; they ceded for 20 million and
gave us that land (until allowed legal independence from the U.S. in 1902). This doctrine was used in
so many more cases such as 1862, 1870, and 1895. While there is a possibility that we could have
done the things we did with Cuba, and the expansion of the U.S. and so much more without the
Monroe doctrine. Again the doctrine made it so much easier, and faster than it would have been

The company had completely ignored the fact that Japanese market is not as price sensitive as other
Asian markets. Many people came to Carrefour mostly out of curiosity, expecting it to give a
resemblance of French market with French products while on the contrary, the company were selling
more Japanese products and lost all ability to distinct itself with highly competitive local supermarkets
(Yamakawa, 2005, Choi Mukoyama, 2009). There was the discordance between the image that
Carrefour tried to portrait as high quality, luxurious and sophisticated products when it was following
the EDLP model Everyday low price , multi store, convenience, retailing format.
Moreover, Carrefour Japan didn t make any adjustment regarding Japanese people as its shop signs
were in English with intimidating guards present at the store; westernized design shelves and cart that
were too high and heavy for average Japanese people; confusing the weight then price at checkout
system for vegetables and fruits while the people are used to purchase pre packed goods with known
price tag and especially the non diverse fish choice in seafood

English Speech Examples
Useless Part of Speech: Adj Narrative: Everyone (besides Mr. Smith because he doesn t enjoy
watching fights) was pumped for the Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holmes fight. It seemed almost futile to
think that Holly would win. Ronda was an undefeated champ who had a record of about 30 seconds
for a knockout. There was no way she could lose. You could only imagine how infuriated I was when
Ronda clumsily lost her footing and Holly sent a quick kick to Ronda s temple. 22. Commuted
Definition: To make something less severe Part of Speech: verb Narrative: Robert Bloomingdale was
jumping around in great excitement after hearing the verdict on his jury case. Instead of being being

My favorite summer fruit would have to be the succulent watermelon. Strawberries and cherries are
great, but nothing can compare to the juicy, savory flavor of a nice, crisp watermelon. Just thinking
about it makes my mouth water. 30. Imperative Definition: of the greatest importance Part of Speech:
adj Narrative: As a teenager you seem to have all your priorities mixed up. Instead of trying hard for
school, we decide that it s okay to not study and flake on our homework, but we should always make
social media imperative. It s a sad thing, really. Seeing kids almost like living zombies, chained to the
world that they can only view through a tiny screen. 31. Pungent Definition: foul smelling Part of
Speech: adj Narrative: After days and days of searching through the garage, we finally found the
reason for it smelling so bad. One of the cats killed a mouse I the garage, leaving the pungent smell
for all to intake. I was getting headaches and my mother was burning candles like crazy in order to
suppress the smell. I m so glad we didn t have to take any extreme measures. 32. Embellish

Dr. Lawrence Kohlberg s Bye, Children And Their...
In Michael Stewart s novel Bye Bye Birdie, children and their attitudes play a significant role from
disobedience and protective parents, to teenage love and jealousy. Some parents in the little town of
Sweet Apple, Ohio attributed children s attitudes to Elvis stereotyped Conrad Birdie; however, others
believed it was their age. Psychologist, Lawrence Kohlberg, described many moral stages each and
every person goes through during his or her life. I know two children who illustrate Kohlberg s stages
of Moral Development very well. Karim is an eight year old boy to whom I taught swim lessons, and
he is currently in the preconventional stage. Sam is my 12 year old brother and living in the
conventional stage of Kohlberg s Moral Stages. As one of the most difficult children I have ever
taught lessons to, Karim struggled with following directions, respecting his teachers, and working
hard. He was given to me to work with for two reasons, so I could fix his stroke and because he
refused to obey authority. While his previous instructor is my friend, he lacked the gumption to punish
his students when they were disobedient, like Karim. Despite sitting around the pool 30 minutes
before his lesson, Karim was always late. Once in the water every excuse in the book came out:
goggles filled up with water, legs and arms were tired, he needed to go the restroom, he did not
understand what I was saying, or he just had no desire to perform to the best of his abilities. Many
frustrations

  • 2. Bolshevik Collectivism In Mayakovsky A work of art is so often, from its inception, a personal creation; and something which is created from the artist s perception often inevitably becomes a meditation on his inescapable selfhood. Following the revolution, Russia was marked by a burgeoning utilitarian ideal and a collectivism which proclaimed, one for all. The 1920s Bolshevik leadership sought to reemploy the avant garde artists with the aims of instilling the masses with a proletarian mentality. A conflict between the individual identity and the Bolshevik collectivism threatened to compromise the artist s values and unique aesthetic aims. A prime example of this internal discord is illustrated in the works of Mayakovsky. At the outset of post revolutionary Russia, the poet voices his annoyance at having to make propagandistic posters in his 1920 poem An Extraordinary Adventure . Ultimately, however, he discovers the merits of this seemingly uninspiring task by the end of the poem. These agitprop posters were one of the most ubiquitous resources the government used to educate and culture the masses. At this point the Bolsheviks were convinced that the values inherent in science and the arts were congenial to the principles of socialism. Culture was to be a helpmate in the building of socialism (Kenez, 65). The posters were extremely effective, for they spoke even to the illiterate. Their content educated, while their modernist style cultured. Several years later, however, Mayakovsky seems to revert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Ian McEwan s novel Atonement, Briony, a 13 year old fanciful storyteller, misjudges a series of events that have repercussions on the lives of others. Consequently, she spends a lifetime attempting atonement through storytelling. Brian Finney explains that Briony attempts to use fiction to correct the errors that fiction caused her to commit (69). McEwan explain Briony s though process on writing: To enter a mind and show it at work, or being worked on, and to do this within a symmetrical design this would be an artistic triumph (265). Briony is obsessed with writing a new kind if fiction where entering other people s minds is a success. Wright stays true to this idea by changing the setting of London 1999. Instead of attending her birthday party, Briony attends a TV interview discussing her book because most of London 1999 comes from inside Briony s head so the TV interview gives Briony the opportunity to share her thoughts. In this interview, all the pieces finally come together as Briony reveals the truth that she made up their thoughts. Wright stays true the heart of the novel because Briony gives Robbie and Cecilia their happiness by writing from their points of view. Briony explains in the novel: I like to think that it isn t my weakness or evasion, but a final act of kindness, a stand against oblivion and despair, to let my lovers live and to unite them at the end (351). Briony gives them their happiness by her storytelling. Harry Haun explains that The ending was one of the most difficult things, because it comes after the storytelling and turns into an intellectual study of the narrative. (2). • 6. The Importance Of A Business Continuity And Disaster... There is need to ensure that there is continuity of information and adequate recovery of the same in business continuity planning and disaster recovery processes. Individuals and firms therefore have to improve their incident response capability in light of increasing attacks that are cyber security related. These attacks have become diverse and more disruptive while causing greater damage. The number of security related incidents cannot be completely reduced, but the incident response capability of individuals and firms can be improved to enable them to detect incidents promptly, minimize loss, mitigate any weaknesses exploited during such incidents and restore information and IT services back to normal (NIST 2012). The objective of this essay is to outline the importance of having a business continuity and disaster recovery plan for information systems, the technical and managerial challenges that can be faced and solutions that can be used to solve the same. It is important to have business continuity plan and disaster recovery for information systems since these attacks often target business data and sometimes personal data. It also enables an individual or a firm to have an automatic way of responding to incidents in a systematic way using laid down methodology. This is key in reducing the theft or loss of information that would have occurred. In addition, it reduces the time in which services are disrupted due to these incidents. • 7. A Study On Diabetes Mellitus Part A 1. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (previously described as non insulin dependent diabetes) is a condition due to hyperglycemia that accompanies a relative rather than an absolute insulin deficiency. It appears as a consequence of the alteration (genetically inherited or acquired) of insulin secretion, sometimes associated with peripheral insulin resistance. Impaired ability to absorb certain macronutrients such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins can lead to a large spectrum of chronic complications that involve more or less all tissues of the human body. Globally, an estimated 422 million adults are living with diabetes mellitus, according to the latest 2016 data from the World Health Organization. Diabetes Mellitus affects an estimated 29.1 million people in the United States and is the 7th leading cause of death. T2DM includes a heterogeneous group of diseases that associate in different degrees two major metabolic defects: beta cell insulin secretion defect and insulin resistance of the peripheral tissues. Obesity and insulin resistance are characteristic for the majority (80 90%) of T2DM cases (Obese T2DM). The sine qua non condition for the progression from the preclinical phases (prediabetes) to the overt hyperglycemia stages is represented by the presence of the insulin secretion beta cell defect. A lack of compensation for insulin resistance will lead to evolution towards T2DM. The first sign of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amino acids are the chemical units of proteins and are considered to be the building blocks of life. They are important in almost every function a cell does within itself and the entire organism. Blood circulates through our entire bodies which means the proteins in our blood have reflected everything that is happening in the human body. This means an infection in a person s foot, can be seen through the proteins in blood drawn from the arm. The potential power of proteomics is mind blowing. With proteomics, doctors can find any disease, disorder, or any other problem just by examining a single drop of blood. Instead of running dozens of different tests to find out what is wrong with someone, all a doctor has to do is draw the patient s blood, send it to the lab, and wait for the results (Agus 110 112). Mesa Verde National Park On The Colorado Plateau Mesa Verde National Park on the Colorado Plateau contains many geological aspects of interest, including its sedimentary rock layers, its canyons, its alcoves utilized by ancient people and how these alcoves were formed. Mesa Verde National Park is located in the southwest corner of Colorado, close to the Four Corners area, on top of a high mesa overlooking the Mancos River (Harris et al. 2004). The park, covering 81 square miles, consists of several main sedimentary formations that are characteristic to the park (Encyclopedia Britannica 2015). Canyons are carved into the sedimentary rock, with the cave dwellings found high on their steep walls. These dwellings are an especially unique aspect to the Mesa Verde National Park, and are built out of large alcoves. The alcoves were produced by weathering and erosion of the sedimentary rock type. To better understand how these alcoves formed, we must understand the geology of Mesa Verde National Park and how it has developed over history. First, we must examine the sedimentary formations; when they were formed, how they were formed, and what materials they consist of. About ninety three to one hundred million years ago, the Western Interior Seaway rolled through the North American continent, eventually reaching the geographical area of today s Mesa Verde National Park (National Park Service 2005). Many times it is the responsibility of the community to speak out about problems. Communities are the only effective power that can limit consumption, pollution, and the degradation of nature (Ehrenfeld 21). A program such as Neighborhood Watch is a good example of people coming together on a community level to fix and prevent problems. Another aspect of good community, which can be seen in farm communities, is the idea of stewardship and treatment of the land. In the past, the communal system in farm communities was that everyone relied on each other for survival. Then with the introduction of modern economic systems, that was drastically changed in some areas. Farmers then relied more on making a profit and getting the most money out of their land. David Kline represented his ideas that one must be a steward to the mysteries of god (39). This example of how farm communities have changed resembles some of the problems facing large rural communities today. One major problem with communities today is that people frequently move between different areas where every house looks identical. Such communities are like packaged communities and lack dynamism. Harry W. Paige would call people living in packaged communities, the rootless ones, because they lack a sense of place and belonging. Paige also expresses the idea of retirement communities and how they can never mimic the real feeling of home. Even if they claim to be living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Emmy Noether Research Papers When I hear the word mathematician , I normally think of Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton. Notice how Einstein and Newton are men? Unfortunately most people do not think of any female mathematicians when they hear that crazy M word. My point of view on mathematicians has changed drastically due to doing this paper. Instead of thinking of Einstein and Newton, I will think of the great Emmy Noether. She was a mathematician, professor, and, most importantly, a friend to students. In this paper, I will discuss her childhood, adulthood, education, major life events, and her mathematical contributions to the green and blue globe we call home. Emmy had a pretty educational childhood. Born on March 23, 1882, Amalie Emmy Noether was the eldest of four children (McGrayen 67). The three boys, Emmy, and their parents lived in the small university of Erlangen, Germany (McGrayen 67). The Noether family was Jewish a family. Helicopter parenting is the newest trend in today s society, it is a way of raising children in a very stern, controlled, and structured manner. Helicopter parents control their children s lives with strict rules and often complete tasks for the children that are unnecessary all to protect their children. This child raising strategy most often incorporates an element of babying , such as making their teenager s lunch for them every day, doing their child s homework and projects for them, and not letting their child go anywhere alone even when they are in well into their teen years. Children who have helicopter parents never learn to be accountable for their actions because their parents constantly did everything for them. They have a fear of failure, a lack of confidence, and co dependency issues (Blau). The children also, as a result of being sheltered by their parents, have decreased confidence and self esteem, undeveloped coping skills, increased anxiety, a sense of entitlement, and undeveloped life skills. These children are just not capable of doing things for themselves and this leads to many issues later in life. However, helicopter parenting is not always a horrible thing. Studies have shown that physical abuse has dropped astonishingly, from 1992 to 2011 the rates dropped by 55%. The same thing happened to counts of sexual abuse, it fell by 64% through the same year range. The number of abductions by strangers fell by 51% from 1997 to 2012, and motor vehicle deaths of children under 13 years of age fell 43% in the last decade (Baer). This study equates the drops to the rise of helicopter parents. Although counts of physical harm have dropped, an in depth study was done by Florida State University that surveyed around 460 college students about their life satisfaction levels. Those who had been raised by parents who gave them a larger sense of autonomy reported higher levels of satisfaction in life and those who reported having helicopter parents reported low levels of self efficacy, and higher levels of anxiety and depression ( Helicopter Parents ). • 28. Etiological Theories And Social Implications Essay Etiological Theories and Social Implications In this earliest period of recognition, people in the psychiatric community began to formulate theories as to why children developed conditions like autism and schizophrenia. Some theorized about the possibility of a genetic predisposition early on, but the ideas of some influential figures in the field proposed theories with rather damaging implications (Donvan, 2016). Kanner himself initially thought that autism was a result of a distant mother (Silberman, 2015). Finn writes of Bruno Bettelheim, a controversial figure who widely propagated this previously synthesized refrigerator mother theory. The causative crux, it was proposed, was cold ideation and behavior of mothers in regards to their children. He and some others believed that negative emotions on part of mothers about the existence of their children, even subconscious ones, caused these children to retreat into themselves for protection. Bettelheim, having been victimized by the Nazis, reported that he had seen withdrawn behaviors expressed by others suffering in the camp that very closely resembled the withdrawn and self comforting behaviors of children with autism and schizophrenia (1997). It seemed reasonable to him that these behaviors stemmed from a severe insult to a child s sense of safety and trust in his mother. The patent result of such a proposal is the stigmatization of parents of children with autism. Given the severe stigmatization of autism and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Irony In Albert Camus The Plague The central irony in The Plague lies in Camus treatment of freedom. The citizens of Oran become prisoners of the plague when their city falls under total quarantine, but it is questionable whether they were really free before the plague. Their lives were strictly regimented by an unconscious enslavement to their habits. Moreover, it is questionable whether they were really alive. It is only when they are separated by quarantine from their friends, lovers and families that they most intensively love them. Before, they simply took their loved ones for granted. Camus philosophy is an amalgam of existentialism and humanism. An atheist, Camus did not believe that death, suffering, and human existence had any intrinsic moral or rational meaning. Because he did not believe in God or an afterlife, Camus held that human beings, as mortals, live under an inexplicable, irrational, completely absurd death sentence. In reply to the number of high murder rates in 1990, the New York City Police Department realized that whatever they are doing to reduce violent was not working. The local news reported that New Yorkers were afraid to wear their jewelry in public. Some New Yorkers reported that they sprint to the subway exit to avoid victimization when the door opened. The New York City Police Department decided to implement a practice of Stop, Question, and Frisk. This law became to know as the Stop and Frisk (Bellin, 2014). Stop and Frisk was a method that was implemented by the New York City Police Department in which an officer stops a pedestrian and asked them a question, and then frisks them for any weapon or contraband (Rengifo Slocum, 2016). By the last 1990, Stop and Frisk became a common practice implemented by New York City Police Department (Bellin, 2014). The framework of Stop and Frisk started in 1968 in a case known as Terry v. This was a landmark case that gave law enforcement the constitutional limitations by the United States Supreme Court to stop and search individuals in streets encounters for weapon or contraband (Rengifo Slocum, 2016). In this sentence, there is nothing grammatically unusual or deviant in the way the words of the sentence are put together. However, in the following verse from a poem, the grammatical structure seems to be much more challenging, and makes more demands on our interpretative processing of these lines: ex.9 2 Four storeys have no windows left to smash But in the fifth a chipped sill buttresses Mother and daughter the last mistresses Of that black block condemmed to stand, not crash. The sentence in line 2 of this verse that starts with But in the fifth is unusual in that the predicate of the sentence is made up of a sequence of embedded elements, as we can see if we write them out in a full form: A chipped sill buttresses mother and daughter who are the last mistresses of that black block which is condemned to stand, not crash. Some parents in the little town of Sweet Apple, Ohio attributed children s attitudes to Elvis stereotyped Conrad Birdie; however, others believed it was their age. Psychologist, Lawrence Kohlberg, described many moral stages each and every person goes through during his or her life. I know two children who illustrate Kohlberg s stages of Moral Development very well. Karim is an eight year old boy to whom I taught swim lessons, and he is currently in the preconventional stage. Sam is my 12 year old brother and living in the conventional stage of Kohlberg s Moral Stages.
