The Ethics Of Enterprise Risk Management
Enterprise risk management views all risks to the firm as subject to management and control (Fraser
Simkins, 2010, p. 351). As we have learned, Enterprise Risk Management has three primary
principles, which are: ensure organizational survival, provide social responsibility, and increase the
organization s value, while engaging employees in performance and maintaining their well being
(Bethel, 2016). In its simplest terms, legal risk equates to financial loss (Smith, 2008). In researching
for this assignment, I read several articles relating to the subject matter and remarkably, each article
addressed the topic in very similar ways. Fundamentally, the articles established a framework for
identifying and addressing issues that could rise to the level of risk. Similarly, the reading assignment,
lecture, and articles all stated that while risk cannot be avoided it can be subdued or minimized if dealt
with correctly and timely. Further, the lecture and articles stated some risk is good for business
operations, but organizations are charged with determining whether the risk is worthy of the
investment. What are the challenges for today s Human Resources professionals? Unfortunately, there
is a shortage of critical skills talent for some key roles within many organizations (Jacobs, 2013).
Indeed, there is a percentage of workers who cannot find gainful employment, but sadly many do not
have the skills employers are looking for or need to maintain and exceed their

The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien
In modern war... you will die like a dog for no good reason. Ernest Hemingway. War is many things. It
may be many different things depending on each individual. Many soldiers get trained so their
mentality is to characterize their opponents as less than human, so their lives lose all worth. Some
soldiers however, are not prepared for this, even though they have been trained. One thing is training
for it, another thing is actually killing a human being. As they kill more people, it becomes normalized
for them. All they have seen changes their mind, while all of their dreams get swept aside by bloody
hands of the hypnotized while they carry the cross of homicide. But why kill other strangers? What s
in it for the soldiers? War feeds the rich while it buries the poor. Rich people are power hungry, selling
soldiers in human grocery store, using them as their little puppets who obey their master, making them
go around killing each other in order to determine who is right, but in the end, war determines who is
left. The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien shows how soldiers who commit violence become traumatized
and how that changes over time.
At the beginning of the story the narrator, Tim, gets affected by committing an act of violence when he
was in the Vietnam War, killing an enemy Vietnamese soldier. Many thoughts began flowing in his
head, all the time thinking about the man he killed. He had been born, maybe, in 1946 in the village of
My Khe near the central coastline of

Evaluating The Implementation Of Leadership Theory And...
Administrating medication is one of the main duties that healthcare professionals have to development
in Hospital. According to Huges, 2008 the most common definition for medication error is: Any
preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while the
medication is in the control of the health care professional, patient, or consumer. Such events may be
related to professional practice, health care products, procedures, and systems.
As a consequence, it is also the most common failures that a Leader working in health care services
should face and improve in favour of offer an excellent service for the patients and community.
However, deal with these events is no easy and require wide knowledge related to procedures, policies
and regulations in order to organize the implementation of leadership theories without affecting the
rules already established or interfere with the operation of the health service.
After a conscious analysis of the situation our group choose two main theories to be use in this case:
Attributional theory and Transformational Theory that could be development into the health services

Oriental Amphora In Corinth
This report is presented by archaeologist Annabelle Green who excavated an Oriental amphora in
Corinth, Greece in 2012. The amphora demonstrates life in Ancient Greece such as trading
arrangements between other empires influencing Ancient Grecian artists and objects. The amphora
represents the Oriental period, occurring in 700 620 BCE. This is evident as illustrations of
mythological animals and cartoon figures decorate all Oriental amphorae. The amphora is separated
into three partitions, with three mythological animals in two segments and the bottom segment having
figures offering food up to the mythological animals. The animals are decorated in patterns, coloured
in darker tones. Patterns decorate the handles and the base of the amphora,

Fast And Furious Character Analysis
Title: How Paul Walker Completely Changed Action and Drama Movies
Who isn t familiar with Brian O Conner, the ex cop yet beloved brother of Dominic Toretto? Yes, this
is dealing with Fast and Furious Paul Walker. Before Fast and Furious, Paul Walker had been a part of
everything from Highway to Heaven to The Skulls. Many people are not aware of this, though. Could
this have been what set the bar for his dominant and irreplaceable role as Brian O Connor? Yes, it
could have been; however, his most famous role was as THE Brian O Connor. The films set his
identity as an actor, but did the films have an effect on the society around us? Did any of his character
Brian O Connor s actions influence any outrageous behavior, such as illegal street racing? ... Show

What are the cliché characters? Cliché characters are characters that are known to be overused time
and time again. This character is pretty predictable and one can usually assert what will happen to
them during the film. An example of a cliché character would be Harry Potter. With Harry, one could
argue that his cliché characteristics are being an orphan and having to face Lord Voldemort to save the
world. However, Fast and Furious showcased how not to have cliché characters. This could be argued
with Paul Walker as Brian O Connor. Brian went from being an undercover cop to an undercover
agent, then he became known as a criminal and well known brother of Dominic Toretto. Normally,
when this happens, not many actors could pull this off and still be loved on and off screen. Brian did
come a long way, but he ended up becoming the heart of the entire franchise. This showed that a
character can contain multiple identities, but still maintain an interest of the audience. After this was
done with Brian O Connor, it drew many people towards Paul Walker for what he was able to do. It is
not easy playing different roles and keeping the initial view of that initial character; however, Paul
Walker did the impossible and Brian O Connor remained a key character in the franchise. He even
earned a special dedication in the end of Furious 7, after Paul s sudden death. There are not many
characters who are even thought about to be given a dedication in a film, yet Brian O Connor was

Life Experience Essay
Life is full of exciting experiences for us to enjoy. However, these experiences are meant to teach life
lessons that should remain with us. In my 17 years of living, I have had many lessons to be learned
from events I have gone through. One of those lessons sticks out above the rest and it has a humorous
story to go along with it.
The story starts out with the group planning a get together while eating breakfast at Mcdonald s. Ideas
were flowing out of our heads like a river. We could not agree on a plan of action for the longest time.
Finally, it was decided that we should go to Kenzie s house after she said her dad would cook for us. I
was immediately down for that idea because I knew her dad makes the best chicken wings ever. The
rest of the day for me was spent thinking about what to wear that night. Eventually, the time came for
heading over to Kenzie s house. Bailey, another girl in the group, asked me to give her a ride since she
did not have her driver s license. Because of this, we were one of the last ones to make it to Kenzie s.
In the time that we missed the group decided that they wanted to go and toilet paper some of our
friend s houses that lived close to Kenzie. I had never done something like this before. However, the
excitement of doing this and avoid being caught appealed to me. We all piled into the cars and headed
to Wal Mart to buy the toilet paper. We had an interesting event that happened to us while we were in
Wal Mart. The event was when

The Four Gospels Of Matthew, Mark, And Luke
The canon brought the four gospels about, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John (Evangelists) . These four
gospels paint a different picture of Christ and were written for different audiences. Matthew, Mark and
Luke are said to be very similar to each other. But, there is things which are common to Matthew and
Luke that aren t seen in Mark. Matthew and Luke used another source which Mark didn t know about,
the Q source. John s gospel is quite different to the other three. He is shown as someone who is very
close to Jesus and a very reliable eyewitness (John 19:35).
Matthew s gospel was written in 85 AD for the Jewish Christians who were living in Antioch, Syria.
The audience of Matthew s gospel had tension between the Gentiles, Jews and Jewish Christians. The
main theme relates to how Jesus is portrayed as a teacher due to the gospel having five sermons (5 7).
His gospel contains lots of parables and miracles which would aid him in his teachings. The good
news for the original audience in 1st century Palestine (the gospel) meant that their Messiah that they
believed in had come and they were all thrilled about it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this time Rome was chaotic for the Christians as they were targeted by the Emperor Nero and were
persecuted. The theme of his gospel emphasises Jesus suffering which relates to what they were going
through. It is called the gospel in a hurry as it is the shortest and earliest gospel. The good news for
them meant that they had hope because they would be able to read the works of Jesus and everything
he did on earth and keep

Did the Development in European Warfare During the...
Did the development in European warfare during the Sixteenth Century amount to a Military
Revolution ?
By the Sixteenth century, Luther had successfully challenged the Catholic Church from 1517 and
Copernicus had declared a solar centric universe in 1543. These are both historical events in early
modern Europe. The dramatic changes in Military warfare are also seen as key to European
developments in separating the medieval society from the Modern. The military developments change
that art and organisation of warfare effecting the development of the early modern European state. The
Sixteenth Century brings about new technology, weapons, tactics and armies that some see a resulting
in a European Military Revolution .

Where European military experts, engineers, captains and intellectuals recreated the art of war.
Without Military thinkers such as Gonzalo de Cordoba, Maurice of Orange and Gustavus Adolphus
the military changes would never have taken place. Maurice of Orange had small units of highly
trained soldier in manoeuvres that need many more officers and NCOs to lead them. Gustav Adolf
improved fire discipline and the long practise in arms. Also enforces the importance of military
education and mathematics in European warfare.
Strategy was another major area of revolution in military Europe in the sixteenth century. With the
development of new soldier and armies strategies become more ambitious. Ruler were more confident
about campaigning against many different armies at the same time and took part in decisive battles
without the fear that mercenary soldier would run away. Gustavus Adolphus was one of the first to put
these new strategic concepts to the test according to the historian Roberts8. He returns to a linear
formation for shot armed infantry and an aggressive style of charge for the cavalry.
However strategic development does not confirm the argument that a Military revolution took place in
sixteenth century Europe. There were changes but rather evolutionary and progressive then that of a
revolution. Gustavus Adolphus strategic warfare may not be seen as

Descriptive Essay On The Mountains
Going and taking micro adventures to the mountains which were fairly close to my house was a bit of
a semi common thing, however going with only friends of mine was a thing I didn t do at all. When
the suggestion to go up by my friend Alex was made, Jesse and I quickly agreed to go along with this
plan. We then proceeded to make our way to the mountain and as we were driving up I decided to
chime in and make a suggestion, saying We should climb up from the base of the waterfall everybody
else quickly agreed since that seemed to be a nice little leisure activity for a group of teenagers. With
the weather slowly warming melting the snow on the mountains causing water flow the scenery was
just gorgeous, with many rocks having a bright reflective look caused by the sun and water
interacting. This scenery was just perfect for a climb up the fall. As we climbed we all took notice of
just how pretty the mountain was. Seeing trees, rocks, water spiders, and many other things we don t
see every single day. As we continued up the mountain we eventually got this amazing area with some
more reflective brown gorgeous rocks that were similar to a bunch of tiny steps. With all the water
running down the rocks my dark brown Sperry s I decided to wear started to show why they were
called boat shoes this is because they were quite good at sticking to surfaces without slipping. Even
though highly unorthodox with my shoes for some reason they seemed to work quite well except for
coming untied more times than I would have enjoyed. As we continued to climb we took a few group
pictures as well as making a fair amount of jokes to help ease our minds off of the physical work we
were putting into climbing up this mountain. After we climbed up for about fifteen minutes much of
the rocks that had places for our feet to go into and cradle providing full support were gone and being
left with solely smooth rocks that if you wanted you could slide down with relative ease. So the rate at
which we were scaling these rocks had to slow, however not terribly but our speed was crippled by
being a little more cognizant and careful. Never the less we continued to climb up, eventually a few
more these rock steps showed up and of course we

Jacob came to surprise the bride with a dance. Bella and Jacob began to talk about the after math of
her marring a vampire. The talk of having a real honeymoon made Jacob upset and the start of a small
debacle between Jacob and Edward. Jacob feared that should he try to have sex with Bella that it
would kill her. The reception party did not see the spat and things moved on as Bella was surprised
with the destination of her honeymoon. From a plane ride to a drive to a boat ride; Edward took Bella

Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation in College Students
Let s take a closer look at how motivation ties in with these intrinsic and extrinsic theories for
motivation. It is clear that motivation is one of the most prominent driving forces by which humans
pursue and ultimately achieve their goals. Motivation, quite simply, is rooted in the human instinct to
minimize pain and maximize pleasure. The characteristics of such a basic theory would usually be
about as clear cut as they come. However, motivation relies heavily on one s personal psychology as
well as specific situations. As noted before in the survey, it also has two very distinct and different
sides to it, those being intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is defined as

it has added an extra section to analyses the supplier CSR, which includes sites auditing, the global

improve the overtime issue, including financial support and the development of a long term plan to
improve the overall working hour practices.
Samsung Electronics also recognised the ever increasing importance of compliance management and
set up a dedicated organisation to deal with the issue extensively (Samsung Electronics, 2013: 54). It
hired third party agencies that were registered with the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition

on the surveys completed by the employees in the supplier factories, which 57 per cent of the
weaknesses were found in labour and human rights area, and 34 per cent in health and safety.

The Teachings Of Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama ( The Buddha...
Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), and Jesus Christ were extremely influential leaders
and were all the keys to establishing three of the major religions today; Islam, Buddhism and
Christianity. These religions are currently the largest religions in the world and influence billions of
people every day. All three of these men have shaped the course of history and redefined the destiny of
mankind. They all lived very interesting lives and preached different lessons to their followers. I
would like to start this essay by first looking into the history of each of these men and later comparing
and contrasting the way they lived their lives as well as their teachings.
Muhammad was born in the year 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca, located now in what is known as
Saudi Arabia. His father, Abdullah died before he was born and his mother, Amina passed away when
Muhammad was around five or six years old. He was then brought up by his grandfather, Abdul
Muttalib, who treated him with the utmost love. Two years passed before his grandfather also passed
away and Muhammad was left in the care of his uncle, Abu Talib and his wife, Fatima. They treated
him just as well if not better than their own children. The love they had for the young boy was
matched by no one.
As Muhammad got older, he became known as a very trust worthy, noble and kind man. When
Muhammad was twenty five years old, he became a trading agent for a wealthy, noble lady by the
name of Khadija. Khadija was so

Lord Of The Flies Femininity Analysis
Lord of the Flies is a novel written by the Nobel Prize winning author William Golding about a group
of schoolboy stuck on a deserted island, attempting to establish a well organized society but fail. The
story lacks a real female character. Hence, most critics pay no attention on this issue. Nevertheless, the
issue of femininity is implicitly presented in the story; male characters are rejecting the femininity. For
example, in the protagonist Ralph s memory, he never read one of the books standing on his shelf
because that is the book about two girls (Golding 112). Also, when the boys hair grow longer due to
the long stay on the island, they refuse to tie the hair back since it would be like girls (Golding 172).
The novel embodies the confrontation between masculinity and femininity. In light of this, this paper
argues that by considering Piggy the representative of femininity, Lord of the Flies illustrates how the
exclusive nature of masculinity repudiates femininity, which causes the final disintegration of the
society on the island.
Lord of the Flies depicts the disintegration of the order and the collapse of the harmony mainly
embedded in the conflict between Ralph and Jack, the two competing leaders in the novel. The story is
set in the middle of the raging war, when a plane evacuating a group of schoolboys from Britain is
shot down on a deserted island. Two of the boys, Ralph and Piggy, discover a conch and make use of
it to assemble other boys. Piggy, who is the

Active Learning Is The Key For Understanding, Not Passive...
Active Learning is the Key to Understanding, Not Passive Learning
According to Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher, the current education lacks teacher
student communication. In his article he reveals that, Instead of communicating, the teacher issues
communiques and makes deposits which the students patiently perceive, memorize, and repeat. This is
the banking concept of education, in which the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as
far as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits.
Basically, Freire s argument is that education should involve student teacher knowledge exchange,
rather than the teacher being the one teaching all the time. As someone who is an educator, Freire
understands that knowledge is a result of active learning rather than passive learning. He likens the
current education to a banking system whereby the teacher just deposits information into the students
empty heads. Freire complains that this type of education does not give students the understanding
they need to connect the material with reality. In fact, he stresses out that students just memorize what
is said by the teacher without understanding the concepts. Due to that, he further describes how the
concepts taught in class seem to be disconnected from reality since the students cannot relate how
education affects their day to day lives.
Although I agree with Freire that education should not be like a banking system, I cannot accept his
overriding assumption

How Did Fleche Wrote The Revolution Of 1861
I feel like Andre M. Fleche wrote, The Revolution of 1861: The American Civil War in the Age of
Nationalist Conflict to expand reader s knowledge and comprehension of nationalism occurring in the
Civil War during the nineteenth century, on a global spectrum. Andre Fleche wanted to inform readers
how the northern and southern disputes on race, social class and labor has been influenced from other
international events. One reason why Fleche wrote The Revolution of 1861 was to prove that the pan
European revolutions of 1848 were an influence on Americans contemplating the civil war. In Fleches
book he had multiple arguments, one of his arguments was that the legacy of 1848 was an influential
model for both the northern and southern sides competing national ideologies, each having their own
lesson and view of opinion difference (Fleche 3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason of this spread, was the fact that other countries were noticing Europe s independence and

in his book are how in chapter one slavery was viewed as a threat in the advancement of nation
building plans in America, chapter two discusses how The Revolution of 1861 forced states to choose
a party, chapter three talks about problems in Northern Nationalism consisting of local rights and
central authority tension, and helping Great Britain realize its self determination (Fleche 81). In the

Elementary Hosts Popcorn At School
Every other Friday, Cascades Elementary hosts Popcorn Friday in their cafeteria. Volunteers come and
help make, bag, and distribute the salty snack to the classrooms. The line goes popcorn machine,
empty bags, bag folders and tape placers, finished bags, and classroom totes. However, to make the
line flow easily, the line might go; empty bags, popcorn machine, bag folders, tapers, finished bags in

the flow is maintained. Unfortunately, many parents with nothing to do on Fridays do not come to

the color of their skin. However, during the mid twentieth century, the word racism meant to dislike a
group of individuals because they were intellectually and/or morally inferior. Thus, it becomes the
responsibility of the superior race to take control of the inferior race, or wipe them out completely in
the case of Adolf Hitler. Hitler attempted to create and protect the superior race from the inferior race
by implementing administrative policies designed to protect the former. This belief of superiority
comes from Darwin s theory of survival of the fittest which argued that there are significant
inequalities within each species and that some species get taken advantage of while others take
advantage of others. //This evolutionary theory could have been used as a justification for Hitler to do
something he would have done anyhow, to exterminate roughly six million Jews who, according to
him, belonged to the inferior race . It is fairly clear that Darwin did not mean for his work to be
interpreted the way it did; however, it can be argued that Hitler used this theory of progress through
the elimination of the weak as a method to rationalize his actions to his

The Relationship Between Birth Order and Intelligence Essays
Debates on the relationship between birth order and intelligence have been remaining controversial.
Birth order is considered as a person s ranking by age among his or her siblings. There have been
numerous researchers studying about this subject to find whether firstborns generally have a higher IQ
scores than their siblings. Some scientists conclude that birth order strongly influents intelligence;
however, others oppose to this, claiming that birth order has no effect on intelligence. In this paper,
my study deals with the birth order effects on intelligence.
Investigation about the birth order effects first started in the late nineteenth century. Several
researchers have claimed that the relation between birth order and intelligence ... Show more content

Some critics argue that three points do not seem like much; however, the impact can be enormous. Just
2.3 IQ points can correlate to a 15 point difference in SAT scores, which makes an even bigger
difference when you re an Ivy League applicant with a 690 verbal score going head to head against
someone with a 705. (Kluger). Some people suggest that the difference of IQ scores varies by family
and does not show up in all family. The scientists then looked at I.Q. scores in 63,951 pairs of
brothers, and found the same results. (Carey). To make sure the difference is not due to biological
aspects, the researchers examined the scores of young men who became the eldest in the household
after an older sibling had died. Their scores came out the same, on average, as those of biological
firstborns. (Carey).
Although there are a number of scientists supporting for the idea of being the firstborns is beneficial
and advantageous, recent studies assert that the effects of birth order no longer are significant. The
children s intelligence depends on many factors such as family size, child spacing, prenatal factors,
gestational factors, not only birth order

Thalamic Stimulation (DBS) Study
Consciousness is the state of being awake and aware of your surroundings. Individuals with epilepsy
have problems with regaining a conscious state of mind after having a seizure. They never know when
a seizure is coming or how long it will take to recover from one, so they have to alter their activities
until they are aware of their surroundings again. Thalamic stimulation or deep brain stimulation (DBS)
is an approach that helps to demonstrate a way to treat neurological disorders such as epilepsy by
surgically implanting small electrodes into parts of the brain and stimulating that area with low to high
electrical impulses. Thalamic stimulation is important to individuals that have epilepsy because it will
help them regain consciousness quicker and return back to their regular routine. The following article
attempted to explain this procedure and its importance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Clinical Decision Support System
During the course of my two year program in the Healthcare Informatics, we have touch on many
aspect of the field to get us ready for the work field. We had taken courses from: computer application,
data communication, information system analysis to creating organizational values. All of these
courses were great, but the one that comes to mind that will be best integrated with my thesis project
is decision support system. My key focus for this thesis project is, interoperability equal continuity
through standards. As a result, the course decision support system will be a perfect complement.
Clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) are interactive systems that emulate human reasoning in a
given domain. CDSSs were first developed about 40 year ago and have a successful track record in
improving the clinical intervention process (Antonio, et al., 2014). They are designed to analyze data
to help health professionals make clinical decisions about individual clients by using information and

with the challenges inherent in fast changing medical knowledge (Daniel Saad, Kuflik, Weiss,
Schreuer, 2015). With the rise of patients visiting and utilizing our healthcare facilities, providers need
a system that can effectively assist in the flow of the work place, by having CDSS reduces reliance on

The Use of Fiber Optics in Communications Essay
The Use of Fiber Optics in Communications The field of communications is one in which the

Light enters one end of the fiber from a light bulb, laser, or some other source, and travels essentially
unimpeded all the way to the length of the fiber where it is intercepted by a photosensitive detector
such as an electronic device or even the human eye. The distance of travel varies according to the use
to anywhere from just a few inches to over one hundred and fifty miles. Fiber optic cable can transmit
large amounts of information over one hundred and fifty miles almost instantaneously. While it takes
five hours to transmit the contents of an encyclopedia over copper wires, the entire work can be
transmitted in less than a minute over fiber optics (Yawn PG). Single Mode/Multi Mode Fibers
referred to as single mode are most often used for the longer distance transmissions. Multi mode fibers
are used in applications requiring less distance. They are less expensive than single mode fibers and
accept light from a larger variety of sources and from different angles. Single mode fibers are smaller
in diameter than are multi mode and are particular both about the type of light they will accept and the
angle at which it can be introduced. They typically accept light only when it is directly input to the
axis of the fiber. This ability requires special light sources such as lasers and

Swot Analysis Of Sears
The merger between Sears and Kmart was a very big event in business. At the time both companies
were in the top three in sales along with Walmart. A summarized look of the history and background
of Sears before the merger all started in 1866, When Mr. Richard W. Sears created a watch company
that he named R.W. Sears. This company was in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the watches were only
sold via mail orders. The following year the company decided to settle in Chicago as their first real
location and Mr. Sears hired his first employee named Alvah C. Roebuck, who was a watchmaker.
Then in 1888, the first ever catalog that included Mr. Sears watches and jewelry was established. One
year later Mr. Sears sells this newly started company and starts another company that was named
Sears, Roebuck and Co. A man named Julius Rosenwald, a wealthy clothing line owner, decided to
buy out Mr. Roebucks side of the company. Around the same time ownerships are switching the first
large catalog for the company was published. Then in 1911 Sears then created their first testing
laboratory. By the end of 1913 the company introduces the very popular brand known as Kenmore.
After the launch of this brand the company begins to bring in tons of more revenue and decides to
create a savings and profit sharing funds for Sears employees. But a thing to remember is that Sears
did not actually open a retail store until 1925 that was located a few miles outside of Chicago. In 1931

Rhetorical Analysis Of Shampoo Advertising
Shampoo advertisements use Visual Rhetorical appeals to convince consumers to buy a certain
shampoo. The Fantastic Four exemplify the way that these shampoo ads use rhetorical appeals to sell
products. The Fantastic Four made it apparent that Shampoo commercials bundle a set of values and
false hopes with their product which allows them to be successful. They made appeals by using
characters, setting, and actions these ads successfully appealed to ethos, pathos, and logos, revealing
why shampoo ads are successful. There are two different ads, a L Oreal commercial and a Head and
Shoulders commercial, with two major distinctions. In the L Oreal commercial the person narrating
the ad is a woman and the character that appears is a woman. In the Head and Shoulders ad both the
character and narrator is a man. The L Oreal d shows a L Oreal shampoo bottle sitting by a pool. It
then cuts to the shampoo being squirted into a hand and ends with the bottle being held by a happy
consumer. Throughout the L Oreal commercial a woman s voice explains all of the benefits that come
with using L Oreal. The Head and Shoulders shows a man holding a Head and Shoulders shampoo
bottle followed by the same man catching the bottle multiple times. The imagery ends with the
shampoo placed on the edge of a bathtub. The Head and Shoulders ad is fully narrated by a man. The
narrator repeatedly says that the shampoo cannot be dropped. The first defining element that both ads
used were characters. The

Similarities Between Letters To Alice And Fay Weldon
Education has been a complex concept and remains a relevant notion in texts across time.
Women were encouraged to pursue an education in both the regency period and the 20th century. But
the type of education encouraged for women in the regency period differs substantially from the kind
offered in the 20th century as they were shaped through the respective contexts of their surroundings.
This is evident when comparing Jane Austen s 1813 Regency social satire Pride and Prejudice, and
Fay Weldon s 1984 postmodern epistolary work, Letters to Alice, as both texts manifest how changes
in their social context have resulted in the altered position of the type of education encouraged for
women, through the inclusion of different language features, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

and modern languages hanging off their branches to symbolise the acquired education that regency
females received from their nourishment. The page on the right hand side highlights trees and fertile
seeds growing with an invisible force from the sky to indicate that the spectrum for education towards
women is not constricted. This indicates that females were encouraged to participate in all the various
types of education. Subsequently, the trees produce different symbols of education, such as books,
universities and career pathways. In between these two types of trees there is a line which separates
these two to represent that although females from both periods were encouraged towards education,
both differ in the type of education they were encouraged as a result of their context. Thus, as a result
of their context the items in which these trees grow are

Process Safety in Oil and Gas Operations- Past, Present...
PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT IN OIL AND GAS OPERATION: PAST, PRESENT AND
FUTURE DIRECTION
1.0 Introduction
Process safety management system (PSM) has received greater attention in the oil and gas industry
because of the major memorable accidents that have occurred within the industry and the severity of
their impacts on stakeholders. The Bhopal gas tragedy which occurred in December 1984 from the
release of methyl Isocyanates (MIC) where over two thousand people died and the Flixborough
disaster which also happened on 1974 where about twenty eight workers were killed and thirty six
workers suffered from serious injuries alerted the essence of PSM in the operations of not only oil and
gas activities but in other process industries (Hackitt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, due to poor process safety culture, BP didn t have a process safety audit system which could
have revealed all the inherent hazards and risk associated with their operations and for this matter the
accident at the Texas City refinery happened (Baker et al 2007).It is obvious that the poor process
safety culture made management and operators in the oil and gas sector to under estimate the role
process failure could lead to accidents.
Again, USW (2007) reports that most Oil and Gas refineries in the United States practice bad process
safety systems where most refineries used atmospheric vents on their process units which accounted to
the release of untreated flammable and dangerous substances. It continues to report that work tool
trailers were located closely to process units thereby exposing them to dangerous conditions and also
permitted unqualified workers to work in risky areas during operations. Moreover, plants were
modified without thorough risk assessments, failure to conduct pressure test after installing new
pipework at Flixborough (Hackitt 2010) was another poor process safety practice. This poor process
safety practice was the root cause of the explosion. It can be said that the poor practices of process
safety was due to unawareness that processes could go wrong.
2.3 Complex Processes and Plants Design According to Hopkins (2007) the complexity of processes
and plants design caused process related accidents to happen.

Comparing Poetry And Archibald Macleish In Ars Poetica
What is a poem and what makes a poem important? This question can have multiple answers for many
different people. Two such poets have ideas of this question to express in their poems. Marianne
Moore in her poem, Poetry, and Archibald MacLeish in Ars Poetica. Both are very talented poets and
their views of what a poem should be and what makes it important are both alike and different.
Marianne s Poetry, and Archibald s Ars Poetica, expresses different views of how a poem should
present its theme, but both are similar in their views of the use of imagination in a poem and it
simplicity. On the subject of how a poem should present its theme, Marianne s Poetry and Archibald s
Ars Poetica, have very different views. In Ars Poetica, Archibald literates that poems should be so
absolutely stunning that they don t have to explain themselves, sort of like a piece of art. By this, he
means that the poem doesn t have to convey a very obvious meaning. On the other hand, in Marianne
Moore s poem Poetry, she believes that a good, genuine, poem shouldn t be so complex and hard to
understand. She thinks a poem needs to openly state its theme, to help readers understand and
appreciate what they re reading. The same thing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Basques Social Structure
The Basques are people who inhabit a region spanning over parts of north central Spain and
southwestern France. Some people are still confused as to where they have originated from. Basques
are now mainly found in an area traditionally known as Euskal Herria, which is located around the
western end of the Pyrenees on the coast of the Bay of Biscay. The Basques language is also called the
Euskera. The Basque language is an extremely complex language which has no close relatives
anywhere else in the world. I will be discussing the Basques infrastructure, social structure, and
superstructure how they maintained it all. The Basques infrastructure is not an industrial hub, but they
do maintain a unique regional identity. They can use an update with their infrastructure. Houses in the
city Bilbao houses many heavy industries, such as steel plants and shipbuildings facilities. They do not

What Is The Role Of Connotation In The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne uses The Scarlet Letter as a forum to express his opinions of the roles of
hypocrisy and truth in the Puritan society. He uses the characters, Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester
Prynne, to reveal how although their sin was the same, the way it affected them were quite different.
In order to present this, Hawthorne uses various rhetorical strategies such as irony, diction,
juxtaposition, connotation and personification. These strategies all help to convey that sin must be
expressed, otherwise it can lead to self destruction.
Hawthorne uses the character, Arthur Dimmesdale, to display the effects of sin when one conceals it
within themselves. In order to achieve this, he uses situational irony and precise diction to express the

Even though Hester was publicly shamed for her sin and forced to wear a scarlet letter, a badge of
shame, she did not submit to the public s insults. Even while delivering the materials she sewed,
Dames of elevated rank... were accustomed to distil drops of bitterness into her heart... alchemy of
quiet malice, by which women can concoct a subtle poison from ordinary trifles... fell upon the
sufferer s defenseless breast like a rough blow upon an ulcerated wound... and she never responded to
these attacks (127). The negative connotation and personification of the insults emphasizes the amount
of acerbity she received because of her notorious sin. Despite this, the public humiliation caused by
the scarlet letter essentially separated her from the Puritan ideals like a spell, taking her out of the
ordinary relation with humanity (61). This personification of the scarlet letter allows Hawthorne to
present how Hester reacted to the ignominy caused by her sin. This isolation also permits Hester to
formulate her own reasoning on what is right and wrong based on her own standards. All this freedom,
in turn as Hawthorne presents, comes from revealing the sin. Hawthorne also presents this act as
favorable since at the very end, the women in the society, some of whom once scorned her, sought
advice from her. This suggests that the civilization which one banished all sinners had accepted one of
them back. The reader can safely conclude that revealing the truth, although it may be harsh at first,
can result in positive aspects towards the

  • 2. The Ethics Of Enterprise Risk Management Enterprise risk management views all risks to the firm as subject to management and control (Fraser Simkins, 2010, p. 351). As we have learned, Enterprise Risk Management has three primary principles, which are: ensure organizational survival, provide social responsibility, and increase the organization s value, while engaging employees in performance and maintaining their well being (Bethel, 2016). In its simplest terms, legal risk equates to financial loss (Smith, 2008). In researching for this assignment, I read several articles relating to the subject matter and remarkably, each article addressed the topic in very similar ways. Fundamentally, the articles established a framework for identifying and addressing issues that could rise to the level of risk. Similarly, the reading assignment, lecture, and articles all stated that while risk cannot be avoided it can be subdued or minimized if dealt with correctly and timely. Further, the lecture and articles stated some risk is good for business operations, but organizations are charged with determining whether the risk is worthy of the investment. What are the challenges for today s Human Resources professionals? Unfortunately, there is a shortage of critical skills talent for some key roles within many organizations (Jacobs, 2013). Indeed, there is a percentage of workers who cannot find gainful employment, but sadly many do not have the skills employers are looking for or need to maintain and exceed their ... • 3. The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien In modern war... you will die like a dog for no good reason. Ernest Hemingway. War is many things. It may be many different things depending on each individual. Many soldiers get trained so their mentality is to characterize their opponents as less than human, so their lives lose all worth. Some soldiers however, are not prepared for this, even though they have been trained. One thing is training for it, another thing is actually killing a human being. As they kill more people, it becomes normalized for them. All they have seen changes their mind, while all of their dreams get swept aside by bloody hands of the hypnotized while they carry the cross of homicide. But why kill other strangers? What s in it for the soldiers? War feeds the rich while it buries the poor. Rich people are power hungry, selling soldiers in human grocery store, using them as their little puppets who obey their master, making them go around killing each other in order to determine who is right, but in the end, war determines who is left. The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien shows how soldiers who commit violence become traumatized and how that changes over time. At the beginning of the story the narrator, Tim, gets affected by committing an act of violence when he was in the Vietnam War, killing an enemy Vietnamese soldier. Many thoughts began flowing in his head, all the time thinking about the man he killed. He had been born, maybe, in 1946 in the village of My Khe near the central coastline of ... The amphora demonstrates life in Ancient Greece such as trading arrangements between other empires influencing Ancient Grecian artists and objects. The amphora represents the Oriental period, occurring in 700 620 BCE. This is evident as illustrations of mythological animals and cartoon figures decorate all Oriental amphorae. • 7. Fast And Furious Character Analysis Title: How Paul Walker Completely Changed Action and Drama Movies Who isn t familiar with Brian O Conner, the ex cop yet beloved brother of Dominic Toretto? Yes, this is dealing with Fast and Furious Paul Walker. Before Fast and Furious, Paul Walker had been a part of everything from Highway to Heaven to The Skulls. Many people are not aware of this, though. Could this have been what set the bar for his dominant and irreplaceable role as Brian O Connor? Yes, it could have been; however, his most famous role was as THE Brian O Connor. The films set his identity as an actor, but did the films have an effect on the society around us? Cliché characters are characters that are known to be overused time and time again. This character is pretty predictable and one can usually assert what will happen to them during the film. An example of a cliché character would be Harry Potter. With Harry, one could argue that his cliché characteristics are being an orphan and having to face Lord Voldemort to save the world. However, Fast and Furious showcased how not to have cliché characters. This could be argued with Paul Walker as Brian O Connor. Brian went from being an undercover cop to an undercover agent, then he became known as a criminal and well known brother of Dominic Toretto. Normally, when this happens, not many actors could pull this off and still be loved on and off screen. Brian did come a long way, but he ended up becoming the heart of the entire franchise. This showed that a character can contain multiple identities, but still maintain an interest of the audience. After this was done with Brian O Connor, it drew many people towards Paul Walker for what he was able to do. It is not easy playing different roles and keeping the initial view of that initial character; however, Paul Walker did the impossible and Brian O Connor remained a key character in the franchise. He even earned a special dedication in the end of Furious 7, after Paul s sudden death. There are not many characters who are even thought about to be given a dedication in a film, yet Brian O Connor was given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Life Experience Essay Life is full of exciting experiences for us to enjoy. However, these experiences are meant to teach life lessons that should remain with us. In my 17 years of living, I have had many lessons to be learned from events I have gone through. One of those lessons sticks out above the rest and it has a humorous story to go along with it. The story starts out with the group planning a get together while eating breakfast at Mcdonald s. Ideas were flowing out of our heads like a river. We could not agree on a plan of action for the longest time. Finally, it was decided that we should go to Kenzie s house after she said her dad would cook for us. I was immediately down for that idea because I knew her dad makes the best chicken wings ever. The rest of the day for me was spent thinking about what to wear that night. Eventually, the time came for heading over to Kenzie s house. Bailey, another girl in the group, asked me to give her a ride since she did not have her driver s license. Because of this, we were one of the last ones to make it to Kenzie s. In the time that we missed the group decided that they wanted to go and toilet paper some of our friend s houses that lived close to Kenzie. I had never done something like this before. However, the excitement of doing this and avoid being caught appealed to me. We all piled into the cars and headed to Wal Mart to buy the toilet paper. We had an interesting event that happened to us while we were in Wal Mart. The event was when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These four gospels paint a different picture of Christ and were written for different audiences. Matthew, Mark and Luke are said to be very similar to each other. But, there is things which are common to Matthew and Luke that aren t seen in Mark. Matthew and Luke used another source which Mark didn t know about, the Q source. John s gospel is quite different to the other three. He is shown as someone who is very close to Jesus and a very reliable eyewitness (John 19:35). Matthew s gospel was written in 85 AD for the Jewish Christians who were living in Antioch, Syria. The audience of Matthew s gospel had tension between the Gentiles, Jews and Jewish Christians. The main theme relates to how Jesus is portrayed as a teacher due to the gospel having five sermons (5 7). His gospel contains lots of parables and miracles which would aid him in his teachings. By the Sixteenth century, Luther had successfully challenged the Catholic Church from 1517 and Copernicus had declared a solar centric universe in 1543. These are both historical events in early modern Europe. The dramatic changes in Military warfare are also seen as key to European developments in separating the medieval society from the Modern. Where European military experts, engineers, captains and intellectuals recreated the art of war. Without Military thinkers such as Gonzalo de Cordoba, Maurice of Orange and Gustavus Adolphus the military changes would never have taken place. Maurice of Orange had small units of highly trained soldier in manoeuvres that need many more officers and NCOs to lead them. Gustav Adolf improved fire discipline and the long practise in arms. Also enforces the importance of military education and mathematics in European warfare. Strategy was another major area of revolution in military Europe in the sixteenth century. With the development of new soldier and armies strategies become more ambitious. Ruler were more confident about campaigning against many different armies at the same time and took part in decisive battles without the fear that mercenary soldier would run away. Gustavus Adolphus was one of the first to put these new strategic concepts to the test according to the historian Roberts8. He returns to a linear formation for shot armed infantry and an aggressive style of charge for the cavalry. When the suggestion to go up by my friend Alex was made, Jesse and I quickly agreed to go along with this plan. We then proceeded to make our way to the mountain and as we were driving up I decided to chime in and make a suggestion, saying We should climb up from the base of the waterfall everybody else quickly agreed since that seemed to be a nice little leisure activity for a group of teenagers. With the weather slowly warming melting the snow on the mountains causing water flow the scenery was just gorgeous, with many rocks having a bright reflective look caused by the sun and water interacting. This scenery was just perfect for a climb up the fall. As we climbed we all took notice of just how pretty the mountain was. Seeing trees, rocks, water spiders, and many other things we don t see every single day. As we continued up the mountain we eventually got this amazing area with some more reflective brown gorgeous rocks that were similar to a bunch of tiny steps. With all the water running down the rocks my dark brown Sperry s I decided to wear started to show why they were called boat shoes this is because they were quite good at sticking to surfaces without slipping. Even though highly unorthodox with my shoes for some reason they seemed to work quite well except for coming untied more times than I would have enjoyed. As we continued to climb we took a few group pictures as well as making a fair amount of jokes to help ease our minds off of the physical work we were putting into climbing up this mountain. After we climbed up for about fifteen minutes much of the rocks that had places for our feet to go into and cradle providing full support were gone and being left with solely smooth rocks that if you wanted you could slide down with relative ease. So the rate at which we were scaling these rocks had to slow, however not terribly but our speed was crippled by being a little more cognizant and careful. Never the less we continued to climb up, eventually a few more these rock steps showed up and of course we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is clear that motivation is one of the most prominent driving forces by which humans pursue and ultimately achieve their goals. Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), and Jesus Christ were extremely influential leaders and were all the keys to establishing three of the major religions today; Islam, Buddhism and Christianity. These religions are currently the largest religions in the world and influence billions of people every day. All three of these men have shaped the course of history and redefined the destiny of mankind. They all lived very interesting lives and preached different lessons to their followers. I would like to start this essay by first looking into the history of each of these men and later comparing and contrasting the way they lived their lives as well as their teachings. Muhammad was born in the year 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca, located now in what is known as Saudi Arabia. His father, Abdullah died before he was born and his mother, Amina passed away when Muhammad was around five or six years old. He was then brought up by his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, who treated him with the utmost love. Two years passed before his grandfather also passed away and Muhammad was left in the care of his uncle, Abu Talib and his wife, Fatima. They treated him just as well if not better than their own children. The love they had for the young boy was matched by no one. As Muhammad got older, he became known as a very trust worthy, noble and kind man. When Muhammad was twenty five years old, he became a trading agent for a wealthy, noble lady by the name of Khadija. • 19. Lord Of The Flies Femininity Analysis Lord of the Flies is a novel written by the Nobel Prize winning author William Golding about a group of schoolboy stuck on a deserted island, attempting to establish a well organized society but fail. The story lacks a real female character. Hence, most critics pay no attention on this issue. Nevertheless, the issue of femininity is implicitly presented in the story; male characters are rejecting the femininity. For example, in the protagonist Ralph s memory, he never read one of the books standing on his shelf because that is the book about two girls (Golding 112). Also, when the boys hair grow longer due to the long stay on the island, they refuse to tie the hair back since it would be like girls (Golding 172). The novel embodies the confrontation between masculinity and femininity. In light of this, this paper argues that by considering Piggy the representative of femininity, Lord of the Flies illustrates how the exclusive nature of masculinity repudiates femininity, which causes the final disintegration of the society on the island. Lord of the Flies depicts the disintegration of the order and the collapse of the harmony mainly embedded in the conflict between Ralph and Jack, the two competing leaders in the novel. The story is set in the middle of the raging war, when a plane evacuating a group of schoolboys from Britain is shot down on a deserted island. • 20. Active Learning Is The Key For Understanding, Not Passive... Active Learning is the Key to Understanding, Not Passive Learning According to Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher, the current education lacks teacher student communication. In his article he reveals that, Instead of communicating, the teacher issues communiques and makes deposits which the students patiently perceive, memorize, and repeat. This is the banking concept of education, in which the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as far as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits. Basically, Freire s argument is that education should involve student teacher knowledge exchange, rather than the teacher being the one teaching all the time. As someone who is an educator, Freire understands that knowledge is a result of active learning rather than passive learning. He likens the current education to a banking system whereby the teacher just deposits information into the students empty heads. Freire complains that this type of education does not give students the understanding they need to connect the material with reality. In fact, he stresses out that students just memorize what is said by the teacher without understanding the concepts. Due to that, he further describes how the concepts taught in class seem to be disconnected from reality since the students cannot relate how education affects their day to day lives. Although I agree with Freire that education should not be like a banking system, I cannot accept his overriding assumption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fleche wrote, The Revolution of 1861: The American Civil War in the Age of Nationalist Conflict to expand reader s knowledge and comprehension of nationalism occurring in the Civil War during the nineteenth century, on a global spectrum. Andre Fleche wanted to inform readers how the northern and southern disputes on race, social class and labor has been influenced from other international events. One reason why Fleche wrote The Revolution of 1861 was to prove that the pan European revolutions of 1848 were an influence on Americans contemplating the civil war. • 23. The Race And Racial Struggle Essay Numerous scholars and historians believe that Hitler s ideas concerning race and racial struggle have originated from the philosophies of Charles Darwin, either directly or through various other sources. In today s context, the word racism means to dislike an individual or a group of individuals based on the color of their skin. However, during the mid twentieth century, the word racism meant to dislike a group of individuals because they were intellectually and/or morally inferior. Thus, it becomes the responsibility of the superior race to take control of the inferior race, or wipe them out completely in the case of Adolf Hitler. Hitler attempted to create and protect the superior race from the inferior race by implementing administrative policies designed to protect the former. This belief of superiority comes from Darwin s theory of survival of the fittest which argued that there are significant inequalities within each species and that some species get taken advantage of while others take advantage of others. //This evolutionary theory could have been used as a justification for Hitler to do something he would have done anyhow, to exterminate roughly six million Jews who, according to him, belonged to the inferior race . It is fairly clear that Darwin did not mean for his work to be interpreted the way it did; however, it can be argued that Hitler used this theory of progress through the elimination of the weak as a method to rationalize his actions to his ... Just 2.3 IQ points can correlate to a 15 point difference in SAT scores, which makes an even bigger difference when you re an Ivy League applicant with a 690 verbal score going head to head against someone with a 705. (Kluger). Some people suggest that the difference of IQ scores varies by family and does not show up in all family. The scientists then looked at I.Q. scores in 63,951 pairs of brothers, and found the same results. (Carey). To make sure the difference is not due to biological aspects, the researchers examined the scores of young men who became the eldest in the household after an older sibling had died. Their scores came out the same, on average, as those of biological firstborns. (Carey). Although there are a number of scientists supporting for the idea of being the firstborns is beneficial and advantageous, recent studies assert that the effects of birth order no longer are significant. Subsequently, the trees produce different symbols of education, such as books, universities and career pathways. In between these two types of trees there is a line which separates these two to represent that although females from both periods were encouraged towards education, both differ in the type of education they were encouraged as a result of their context. PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT IN OIL AND GAS OPERATION: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE DIRECTION 1.0 Introduction Process safety management system (PSM) has received greater attention in the oil and gas industry because of the major memorable accidents that have occurred within the industry and the severity of their impacts on stakeholders. The Bhopal gas tragedy which occurred in December 1984 from the release of methyl Isocyanates (MIC) where over two thousand people died and the Flixborough disaster which also happened on 1974 where about twenty eight workers were killed and thirty six workers suffered from serious injuries alerted the essence of PSM in the operations of not only oil and gas activities but in other process industries (Hackitt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, due to poor process safety culture, BP didn t have a process safety audit system which could have revealed all the inherent hazards and risk associated with their operations and for this matter the accident at the Texas City refinery happened (Baker et al 2007).It is obvious that the poor process safety culture made management and operators in the oil and gas sector to under estimate the role process failure could lead to accidents. Again, USW (2007) reports that most Oil and Gas refineries in the United States practice bad process safety systems where most refineries used atmospheric vents on their process units which accounted to the release of untreated flammable and dangerous substances. It continues to report that work tool trailers were located closely to process units thereby exposing them to dangerous conditions and also permitted unqualified workers to work in risky areas during operations. Moreover, plants were modified without thorough risk assessments, failure to conduct pressure test after installing new pipework at Flixborough (Hackitt 2010) was another poor process safety practice. This poor process safety practice was the root cause of the explosion. It can be said that the poor practices of process safety was due to unawareness that processes could go wrong. 2.3 Complex Processes and Plants Design According to Hopkins (2007) the complexity of processes and plants design caused process related accidents to happen. ... Squealer In George Orwell s Animal Farm Squealer is Napoleon s pig that conveys Napoleon s ideas and convinces to the other animals on the animal farm to believe in whatever Napoleon would like them to think. Squealer could turn black into white and that is because of how he makes all of Napoleon s ideas sound great and amazing. For example, the animals saw that the truck that was taking away boxer said Horse Slaughterer, and jumped to the conclusion that boxer was being sent to a slaughter house. Squealer immediately went to work to convince the other animals that Boxer had not been sent to the slaughter house but had instead gone to an animal hospital: It was almost unbelievable, said Squealer, that any animal could be so stupid. Two such poets have ideas of this question to express in their poems. Marianne Moore in her poem, Poetry, and Archibald MacLeish in Ars Poetica. Both are very talented poets and their views of what a poem should be and what makes it important are both alike and different. Marianne s Poetry, and Archibald s Ars Poetica, expresses different views of how a poem should present its theme, but both are similar in their views of the use of imagination in a poem and it simplicity. On the subject of how a poem should present its theme, Marianne s Poetry and Archibald s Ars Poetica, have very different views. In Ars Poetica, Archibald literates that poems should be so absolutely stunning that they don t have to explain themselves, sort of like a piece of art. By this, he means that the poem doesn t have to convey a very obvious meaning. On the other hand, in Marianne Moore s poem Poetry, she believes that a good, genuine, poem shouldn t be so complex and hard to understand. She thinks a poem needs to openly state its theme, to help readers understand and appreciate what they re reading. The same thing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Archibald believes that a poem should capture a reader s attention with some sort of allure, like a painting. A poem should not mean/ But be (Ars Poetica). He views a poem like a painting, hanging on a wall, it s just there. Archibald thinks that a poem shouldn t be this great puzzle, but simple; a work of art. Marianne Moore also shares this idea of simplicity. As said before, she thinks a poem should be simple to understand. • 38. What Is The Role Of Connotation In The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne uses The Scarlet Letter as a forum to express his opinions of the roles of hypocrisy and truth in the Puritan society. He uses the characters, Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne, to reveal how although their sin was the same, the way it affected them were quite different. In order to present this, Hawthorne uses various rhetorical strategies such as irony, diction, juxtaposition, connotation and personification. These strategies all help to convey that sin must be expressed, otherwise it can lead to self destruction. Hawthorne uses the character, Arthur Dimmesdale, to display the effects of sin when one conceals it within themselves. In order to achieve this, he uses situational irony and precise diction to express the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Hester was publicly shamed for her sin and forced to wear a scarlet letter, a badge of shame, she did not submit to the public s insults. Even while delivering the materials she sewed, Dames of elevated rank... were accustomed to distil drops of bitterness into her heart... alchemy of quiet malice, by which women can concoct a subtle poison from ordinary trifles... fell upon the sufferer s defenseless breast like a rough blow upon an ulcerated wound... and she never responded to these attacks (127). The negative connotation and personification of the insults emphasizes the amount of acerbity she received because of her notorious sin. Despite this, the public humiliation caused by the scarlet letter essentially separated her from the Puritan ideals like a spell, taking her out of the ordinary relation with humanity (61). This personification of the scarlet letter allows Hawthorne to present how Hester reacted to the ignominy caused by her sin. This isolation also permits Hester to formulate her own reasoning on what is right and wrong based on her own standards. All this freedom, in turn as Hawthorne presents, comes from revealing the sin. Hawthorne also presents this act as favorable since at the very end, the women in the society, some of whom once scorned her, sought advice from her. This suggests that the civilization which one banished all sinners had accepted one of them back. The reader can safely conclude that revealing the truth, although it may be harsh at first, can result in positive aspects towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a child he was exposed to the strict religion and meticulous order of Japanese society, while also being a witness to the devastation of a massive earthquake on 1 September, 1923. Through the great earthquake, Kurosawa wrote, I learnt not only of the extra ordinary powers of nature, but of the extra ordinary things that lie in human hearts (Something Like.. p.23).
