Essay On The Persuader
Imagine being stuck in a house, that felt more like a prison. Working for a dangerous man, where
making one wrong move will get you killed. This quarter, I have been reading The Persuader by Lee
Child. The main character, Jack Reacher, is an ex military cop, now a wandering lone wolf searching
for justice. Two DEA agents approach him with a situation: they had an agent on a case who is now
missing, but they can t open a case with the FBI because of legal issues. They know that Reacher is
adroit in combat and undercover operations, and he accepts their request. Jack Reacher not only wants
to help them but wants to find out why an old enemy that should be dead, may be involved with the
case. While reading Lee Child s The Persuader, I have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Evaluating this style made me realize that his unique writing style made Reacher seem even more like
a real person. Right off the bat, I observed short, quick sentences showing Jack s thoughts. Since he
used to be in the military, he absorbs every little detail around him, predicting all of the possible
outcomes. An example can be shown in this quote: Duke went back to his car. It bounced off the
shoulder and straightened up. I followed him through the two miles. We killed our lights a hundred
yards short of the driveway and made the turn. Took it slow. There was some moonlight. His fast and
almost incomplete thoughts make him seem ready to react at any moment. While making Reacher s
character consistent, Lee Child also demonstrates thorough knowledge about military technology
topics. At one point in the book, Reacher uses an old school code to communicate a secret message to
someone. Also, with each weapon that comes up in the book, Jack Reacher seems to have a deep
understanding of all of them. This adds to making him seem even more like a real character because of
his military background, so he would obviously have to know a lot about guns and other

How Did Voltaire Contribute To The Danger Of Despotism
Voltaire
Voltaire was a French philosopher in the eighteen century, a period of free thinkers where freedom of
thought was emerging sufficiently. However, he and others were not academically trained scholars
operating in official institutions of their time. They largely depended on talent and the knowledge they
had acquired in school having come from able families.
On his part, Voltaire greatly defended civil liberties including freedom of religion and right to fair
trial. He went against all odds to ensure social reform despite laws in France for those that were found
to have broken them. He was satirical as he often used his work to criticize church doctrine. On his
part, he failed to advocate for atheism or the overthrow of the French regime ... Show more content on

His mentor John Luke and England s uncertain empiricism were the motives behind his philosophical
views. He was a hypocrite in some manner as his philosophical ideas, and social criticisms were not
original although he portrayed a keen common sense. He contradicted Rousseau s believe that
civilization corrupts man as he believed in progress and the virtues of civilization.
Voltaire significantly took part in fighting for religious liberty. He found the act of people believing in
one religion dangerous as this could expose them to the danger of despotism. He was controversial as
he articulated that existence of two or more religions would generate violence among people.
Undiplomatically, he is said to have fought to an unusual extent to right the wrongs done against
Protestants who had beliefs different to his.
Voltaire did not like Catholic Church institutions as he found them abusive. Eventually, this made
Voltaire engaged in an intense battle against the Catholic Church as he found it skeptical of religious
keenness and the emphasis of human sin. He advised people to take religion as a deterrent and
encouragement towards the good life. Notably, he had invented a saying that if God did not exist, it
would be necessary to invent him. This was controversial as by this he just sought to encourage the

Character Analysis Of The Addams Family Musical
The Addams Family Musical was performed by the Brickstreet players at the Wills Point High school.
They performed on November 11, 2017, at 2:00 pm. The major conflict of this production was that
Wednesday Addams wanted to marry a normal boy named Lucas. Neither set of parents were happy
that their children wanted to get married.
The dominant tone of the play was cosmic. There were many ongoing jokes throughout the play, for
example, the character Lurch who is an undead butler is always two paces behind everything such as
when Gomez said a joke, and everyone laughs it took until everyone stopped laughing for Lurch to
start. Another example would be the grandmother, even though she was not on stage for very long
when she was hilarious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the actors were required to sing and for being a high school production they did really well. The
director did an excellent job casting the group of actors. The performance space was in a cafetorium
and the stage was on the smaller side. The back of the stage was set up as if it was an old abandon
graveyard, with dead trees, old crumbly headstones, and a large black entry gate. Then when it was
time for the scene set in and out of the house they had movable walls, and door set on wheels. This
gave the illusion that we were now indoors or outside of the house depending on the scene. When we
were inside they had furniture such as tables, chairs, and a couch. When we were outside they had
trees, bushes, and dead plants. The lighting of the play was on the darker side to help create the
Addams Family come to life. The loss of the scenery would have completely destroy the whole story.
The costumes fit the personality of each character perfectly. For example, Gomez Addams costume
was just like the one we are all use to. He wore a black and white pin striped suite, with slicked back
black hair and his signature black mustache. Another example is Uncle Fester he wear a black
moomoo looking gown with a bold hear and a sickly appearance. Next would be the Addams dead
relatives, they were all dressed in white from head to toe. They all had dark dead eyes and sickly
sunken in cheeks. The makeup and costumes helped set the

Why I Should Be Safe From The Giant Mice
At last the walking was over. The Sfrums and I stopped like a backwards wave, where they start with
there hands up then put there hands down when it comes to them. A day and a half of walking from
behind the wall to the rug was finally over. And at that stop, I saw a whole new beginning.
Connor, welcome to your new home! My mom said cheerfully, You should be safe from the giant mice
I had a bad feeling about this dark new town of ours, this new town we named Rug had darkness to it.
Maybe this change wouldn t be good after all. Or, it could be a great place to live.
The town was very peaceful with little pre built houses and a town hall. Every building was made out
of little pieces of wood that matched the dark polished brown wood ... Show more content on

A criminal started stealing family s possessions from their new homes and keeping it for him or
herself. The adult Sfrums all came together in the town hall shack about this issue but they couldn t
agree. Some were for a police force and others said our town was too small. Others said to have only a
few guys and be like a town watch.
It was a boring few hours while I was sitting at the steps with the other children in the town. We all get
along well but haven t talked to them since the move. Things have been tiring and this is only our first
day here. Finally the arguing was over and the new wooden doors creaked open with parents and
adults spilling out. Some frustrated, others satisfied.
Lets go Connor My dad said in a bitter tone. We re out of here.
We left the town hall and went back to our little house. Each adult finding their child and walking
back to their little home, which was on the same street as everyone else s shack. My Parents and I
were both walking in the same place, but Mom and Dad were keeping their distance.
Why are you to angry? I asked. Really confused about what was going on between the two as we
walked along the walkway to the houses. Is it about what happened in the town hall?
My dad looked at my mom first then to me. Suddenly, he started to shout, I could care less about what
everyone else thought in there. What I m angry about is how you mother didn t take my side!

A Bombshell Climate Study
First of all, There is strong evidence that global sea level is getting higher and will continue to rise
during this century. There are some human activities, such as burning of fossil fuels and cutting down
tropical forests, have gained atmospheric absorption of heat trapping gases releases enormous amounts
into the air. It means that the Earth s surface temperature increases, and the oceans absorb that
additional heat. There is no doubt that when the ocean is warmer, large ice formations, like glaciers
and the polar ice caps, naturally melt back faster and add more water to the oceans. The melting ice
caps are raising sea levels at an accelerating rate. According to Howard (2015), A bombshell climate

George Washington s Influence On The American
GEORGE WASHINGTON
Joseph Strohmeyer
It is far better to be alone, than to be in bad company. That quote was said by one of the best and the
first president of the United States Of America, George Washington.
On February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, our 1st President Of The United States Of
America was born. He was a great student in school with good grades and basically never got into
trouble with anyone.
George had no kids. When he married his wife Martha Washington she already had kids from her first
marriage. George Washington was the 1st President of the United States. He was Commander of the

The new United States adopted the Articles of Confederation, but its founders realized the necessity to
draft a new document as their Constitution. A convention was held and Washington presided and was
very involved in the process. After much heated debate, on several occasions almost forcing the
convention to be adjourned, the delegates ratified the United States Constitution. Washington was
elected president of the United States on February 4, 1789. John Adams of Massachusetts was elected
vice president. In April Washington took the office in New York City, where the seat of government
was still provisionally maintained. Washington supported adding a Bill of Rights to the original
Constitution to specify the rights of individual citizens, but he opposed attempts to eliminate Congress
s power to regulate commerce with foreign nations and among the states. To Washington these
provisions formed the basis of fiscal stability and solid national credit. He supported Alexander
Hamilton s proposal for a national bank, and appointed Hamilton to his cabinet, along with Thomas
Jefferson, Edmund Randolph and Henry Knox. Washington was very popular and served a second

Cultural Conflict In Tuptim s The King And I
The King and I takes place in Bangkok, Siam in the year 1862; after a recently widowed English
schoolteacher, Anna Leonowens, and her son, Louis, move there to give the King of Siam s children
and wives a westernized education in hopes that this will plunge Bangkok into the modern world.
Anna struggles with the king because their cultural beliefs are so different, but the conflict diminishes
after the king finds out that Britain would like to take over Siam. He calls upon Anna to help him look
less barbaric and she advises him to invite the British and show them how wrong they are by dining
with them and showing a play written by Tuptim, the king s latest wife, based on Uncle Tom s Cabin.
After the play Tuptim runs away with her lover, but is caught and returned to the palace where the
king kills her lover and Tuptim is never seen again to Anna s dismay. She decides to leave Siam, but
on the day of her departure she is informed that the king is sick; she returns to see him right before he
dies and his son is made king to rule in the ways of the West.
The main conflict in The King and I is a cultural dispute between Anna s western ideas and the king s
traditional cultural values. From the very beginning, they establish this issue by showing Anna, Louis
and the ship s captain dressed in western clothes with Anna wearing a crinoline and Louis and the ship
s captain dressed in a suit being met by the Prime Minister of Bangkok who is dressed in traditional
Siamese clothes. They

Rit Effect Essay
If much of what enters consciousness does so in a reflex like manner, regardless of whether such
contents are a product of high or low level processes, do representations during the process of
refreshing behave similarly down stream? If this notion were to be held true, one would expect little to
no difference in the reflex like entry of contents into consciousness from one point in time to another.
This phenomenon is worth delving into primarily because decision making and directed thought
frequently carries the connotation of being willful, intentional, and vastly different from what one
might experience during the RIT. To test this hypothesis, a variant of the RIT was designed to examine
involuntary cognitions moments after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, participants fail to suppress such subvocalizations on a vast majority of the trials (e.g.,
0.86 in Allen et al., 2013; 0.87 in Cho et al., 2014; and 0.73 in Merrick et al., 2015). In more complex
variants of the RIT (Cushing, Gazzaley, Morsella, 2017), participants would (a) indicate by button
press the basic RIT effect and (b) press another button if the involuntary subvocalization rhymed with
a word held in mind (e.g., stir ). Since the act of rhyming requires the retrieval of either the whole
object name or, at minimum, the coda of the word, accurate performance ( .80 mean accuracy across
trials) on this rhyming task supports the notion that subjects involuntary experienced such
subvocalizations. Though the RIT has revealed many insights, the entry of unintentional contents into
consciousness is not fully understood. Correspondingly, the many processes that give rise to the RIT
effect are the result of a synergistic cascade. For example, in order for the effect to arise, there first
needs to be the induction of an action set (e.g., to not subvocalize the name of visual objects). The
final mechanism that results in the RIT effect occurs when the onset of the visual object activates the
stages of processing that lead to the action effect of subvocalizing. It is important to note that, without
the activation of the relevant action set, it is unlikely that participants would experience the

Analysis Of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night
In every piece of literature that we ve read, there is always one character that stands out to you. The
science behind why that happens all narrows down to the complex human brain.
The human brain is separated into different sections.
(Frontal lobe, cerebellum, etc.)
One of the most important parts of our brain is the Limbic System. The Limbic System is responsible
for controlling the emotions that you may feel in a situation. For example, if you see a child fall off his
bike, you may feel sympathy for him/her since you once fell off of your bike.
Now, let s not get too scientific! To boil down a detailed science, your emotions are also involved in
the thinking process while you read. You may make connections to the character, or have your own
opinion on the events that occur throughout the book. This is part of the reason you may find a
character to be intriguing.
This summer, I read the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the night time. By Mark Haddon.
The novel focuses on a highly intelligent boy named Christopher Boone, who is affected by autism
throughout his everyday life. Christopher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was because she had fear, and she didn t have a clue about management. It was different to me
personally because of the modern world that we live in today. Many children have autism, in fact, 1 in
110 kids face the effects of autism. But, the kids that we do see with autism, we also see very coping
parents along with them. Of course there will be parents who run away from parenting, but the idea
seems foreign thinking about the society that we live in

The Health Facility Tours During Austria
The health facility tours in Austria were conducted at two hospitals, Barmherzige Bruder in Salzburg
and tirol kliniken s central hospital in Innsbruck. Barmherzige Bruder is a hospital based in a
monastery. Tirol kliniken s central hospital is part of a larger hospital system serving the Tirol region
of Austria. Both hospitals resembled U.S. hospitals physically; but, both hospitals had a cleaner feel.
The hospitals were quieter than then ones I ve been in the U.S. Less people were in the common
spaces.
Like some of the U.S. s university based teaching hospitals, tirol kliniken s hospital in Innsbruck is
associated with a University. The University hospital had spacious patient rooms in the neurology
department and many rooms appeared empty. A pneumatic tube delivery system delivered mail and
other things to different department s including samples to the central lab. The emergency room was
set up with two distinct units. One unit handled injuries involving blood and did not have any rooms.
This unit triaged individuals behind curtains and moved the patient to the part of the hospital best
equipped to deal with their condition. The second unit handled all other illnesses and had six beds.
Finally, we were able to tour the heliport. Due to the rural and mountainous conditions, helicopters are
placed strategically in the Tirol region where accidents are likely to occur and other vehicles can t gain
access. The helicopters are staffed with one doctor and

The Villain Of Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Villain of Gatsby
Here s the thing about stories; they re all different, but they re all the same. Now, everyone knows how
they re different. Different letters make up different words which make up different sentences. It s this
difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories is much less understood.
They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of archetypes, most importantly the
hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable. Every batman has a joker, Luke will always
face Darth Vader, and the mailman and dog will wage war to the end of time. It is by examining
stories through these archetypes that it becomes easier to see their similarities. When it comes to The
Great Gatsby, however, things become much more complicated. The story, complete with layers of
deception, lust, and corruption blurs the traditional archetypes that a reader looks for in a story. When
the individual qualities of the characters are examined, however, their roles can become much clearer.
Through his obsession, his false identity, and his selfish attitude Jay Gatsby is the villain of F. Scott
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The term hopeless romantic isn t typically associated with villainous
behaviors. You don t see Romeo compared to Cruella De Ville fairly often. But when you look at Jay
Gatsby, his romanticism, and more importantly his obsession, leads to the collapse of the story.
Unfortunately for him, Gatsby allows one

song that the choir singing the tallis scholars sang. First of all, I will briefly describe the life of
William Bird who composed this song. : William Byrd was born in London in 1542 His father,
Thomas Byrd, was a little known musician. He began studying music from the age of seven, joining

Out in the field, you need to make sure that you have high quality gear on you to ensure that your hunt

adequate blade for when it s time to dress your kill, the best gear can mean the difference between a
successful hunt or an unproductive day in the woods.
Of all the gear you can have, however, I would argue that one of the most important pieces is your
rifle scope. As a hunter, vision is probably your best asset, considering that you have to see your target

However, you don t get a laser sight on this scope, which may or may not be a bad thing, depending

Other notable features of this unit include a variable zoom range of 6 24X, a multi coated lens for

Year-Round Schooling
After a long summer break full of vacations, pool days, endless sleepovers, and other crazy
adventures, students return to school with rested minds and darker skin. During the previous school
year, they were constantly worried about homework, projects, and tests. Their three month getaway
has cleared their thoughts of school completely, which is precisely the problem. When teachers ask
returning students what material they remember from last year, the answer is absolutely nothing.
Summer learning loss is only one major problem of the famous three month long vacation from school

Educational research shows that students forget a lot of what they learned in school over the long
summer break, so teachers must spend the beginning of the next school year reviewing this
information instead of teaching new lessons (Ballinger and Kneese 2). Students could learn
significantly more material in school with a year round schedule because they would remember more
of the previous information they have learned. Many failing schools have a large proportion of
students from disadvantaged homes, and these students are more prone to summer learning loss (3).
Since this loss accumulates each year, these students become so far behind their peers that they decide
to drop out (3). According to a study in the American Sociological Review, the information that
students from low income families lose over summer breaks accumulates and contributes to the
perpetuation of family advantage and disadvantage across generations ( Leave 1). By changing to a
year round calendar, les students from low income households will drop out of school, which helps to
break the poverty cycle. Also, year round schooling makes it easier to learn a second language because
this skill requires daily or frequent practice (Ballinger and Kneese 4). Since students have shorter
breaks from learning with a year round schedule, they will be able to master a new language more

Betrayal In King Lear Essay
In King Lear by William Shakespeare, betrayal plays an important role throughout this story. The
foreshadow to heartbreaks and other awful leading events begin with one of the many motifs/themes
to this story, betrayal. In the beginning of the story, as Lear conducts his love test Goneril and Regan
kiss the bottoms of their father s feet in order to gain their desire power. However, when Cordelia does
not follow with her sister s praise Lear feels betrayed and embarrassed by her. He decides to get his
revenge and decides to disown Cordelia by saying Here I disclaim all my paternal care (pg. 5). The
betrayal continues to go back and forth as Lear feels Cordelia s love is not pure or true meanwhile,
Cordelia feels the exact opposite. In this specific part of the story betrayal is being used to portray the
easy access to power and success as well as losing it. Be as well neighbored, pitied, and relieved, as
thou my sometime daughter (pg.5). Cordelia lost everything from the blink of an eye because her
father turned a blind eye to Goneril and Regan s true intentions. ... Show more content on

The Art Of Resistance Hidden Transcript
James C. Scott The art of resistance: Hidden transcripts explains the modes of discourse employed by
the power holding groups of society. The public transcript describes the dominant groups policies and
how the oppress groups feel about them. The difference in these two groups is the dominance that one
places over the other in society. The oppress feel as if they don t have power to act or change what the
powerful dominant groups hold. The hidden transcripts are created from those who find themselves
subjects of the social, political and economic classes that dominant their society. The purpose of the
hidden transcripts take up a model of communication in the public atmosphere that address the
individuals who struggles with disparity, power and privilege in their communities and societies
overall. According to Scott The highly charged atmosphere created by the open declaration of the
hidden transcript may produce social effects that bear the marks of collective madness (Scott 222). By
opening the hidden transcript it could led you to more individuals who share similar views as you do.
Sometimes when it looks like nothing is happening sometimes is happening. However, in the groups
of the offstage individual there is very much a change happening amongst the conversation that are
had but they is no action to enforce that change. The only thing that is lacked in these transcripts is the
confidents to act upon what the ideas in those conversation create. Ultimately, there is

Should Ceos Be On The Board Essay
Should CEOs be on the Board?
By direction of the board, a foundation s top executive staff person (titled CEO for this discussion)
manages all aspects of the organization. CEOs typically oversee the foundation s money, time and
human resources and act as a liaison between the board and staff. Rather than keeping the CEO in a
strictly managerial position, some boards award them a role in governance as well, offering the CEO
full membership and in some cases, voting rights on the board. CEOs who sit on the board hold a
position of great privilege but also great responsibility. With an equal voice at the board table, CEOs

What Caused The American Civil War Essay
The American Civil War was a war fought within the United States of America between the North
(Union) and the South (Confederacy) The war was one of the most critical events in American history.
It is estimated that 623,000 soldiers died during the Civil War (Garrison) starting from 1861 and
ending in 1865. While many still debate the ultimate causes of the Civil War, author James McPherson
writes that, The Civil War started because of uncompromising differences between the free and slave
states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet
become states. When Abraham Lincoln won election in 1860 as the first Republican president on a

still legalized the ownership of slaves. This angered the Southerners and threatened their way of life.
The election of Abraham Lincoln as the sixteenth president of the united states in November of 1860
set the stage for division, secession, and civil war (Stokesbury 3) the South felt threatened when it
came to slavery.
There were also economic differences between both regions. The Southern states were agrarian states,
which depended on agriculture rather than industrialization. Slavery was essential to the South s
agrarian economic system, dedicated to producing raw materials for manufacture by others. (Axelrod

of the South. The South was able to produce 7/8 of the world s supply of cotton. (Axelrod 15) This
made the South s dependence on the plantation system slavery. By then, the North was growing
industrially. The north feared that South s slave based economy might affect their economy. The North
depended on factories and other industrialized businesses. As for this reason many of new immigrants
settled north, while few settled south. This allowed the North to grow industrially, while making the
South feel more threatened by them. The Confederacy opposed any kind of industrialization and
manufactured as little as possible. Southern

but did not see tactical use until the first Great War. In this paper I will discuss the origin and types of
blood agents. Hydrogen cyanide is the most effective of the blood agents and is the most prominently

The term blood agent comes from World War I, when most of the agents at the time produced
localized effects, cyanide when inhaled triggered systematic effects thought to be transported by the
blood, which coined the term blood agent. When in reality cyanide is any compound that contains
carbon and nitrogen with a triple bound. It inhibits enzymes inside the body by bonding with the iron
present in cells. This prevents intercellular oxygen utilization and causes the cells to die. The heart and
brain are affected the most because they require a lot of oxygen. The most effective means of delivery
is cyanide in confined spaces to capture the gas to prevent evaporation. Cyanide is also present in
human tissue in small amounts and the body natural metabolizes it through enzyme in the urinary
tract. This makes it unique among chemical agents because of its practical rate of detox it requires a
greater length of exposure.
If exposed to cyanide with in the first 15 seconds rapid breathing will begin and within 30 seconds
convulsions can begin. After two to three minutes respiratory activity stops, and cardiac activity cease

Forms Of Power In Fresco Of Six Kings And Naked Woman
We still live in a patriarchal society. 60 years has passed since the strenuous movement of the
feminists, but the male dominant power toward female has not changed. The word of John Berger who
is famous for Ways of Seeing indicate this power relation. Men act and women appear. Men look at
women (25). The same relation is prevailing when we gaze at an image. Two images collided in this
essay both possesses forms of power in different representations. Fresco of Six Kings and Naked
Woman, a mural painted in the changing room of Jordan s Qasr Amra depicts figures of male and
female in total contrast. Built in 705 in the middle of a dessert, it functioned as a retreating space only
allowed for the privileged. The inner wall of this architecture is lavishly decorated with figures
symbolizing power of the region. The left space of the fresco is filled blue with 6 figures standing
inside it. They are well dressed in luxurious robes decorated carefully with fine patterns. Patterned
fabrics expend larger energy to be produced thus resulting in higher price. Also, the representation of
the robe corresponds to the costume of Byzantine emperor from 5 to 6th Century. Therefore those 6
figures could be assumed as the wealthy class and one of them as the emperor. In contrast to these clad
men, the woman on the right stands alone in a pool of water very scantly clothed. But as seen closely,
the viewer could notice that she is not standing alone in the picture plane. On her left side,

Literary Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Champion Of The World
The excerpt titled Champion of the World is extracted from Maya Angelou s autobiographical work I
Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, published in 1969. This passage tells the story of Angelou s
community gathering at the local store to watch the match between Joe Louis and Primo Carnera in
June of 1935. Angelou describes the spirit of the black community in Stamps, Arkansas as they listen
to a match between two heavyweight boxers. Angelou Uses extensive imagery to depict the tension
before the match, the excitement during the match and the celebration after the match. The imagery,
hyperboles and many other rhetorical devices help to give the reader a great sense of the events
depicted in this excerpt. In the first section of the story, Angelou uses figures of speech and extensive
detail to show the importance of the event to her community. The first line, The last inch of space was
filled, yet people continued to wedge themselves along the walls of the Store (par. 1), Angelou uses a
hyperbole to give vivid imagery that emphasizes the number of people in the Store. The second line
where Uncle Willie had turned up the radio so that youngsters on the porch wouldn t miss a word
(par.1), shows the devotion and involvement of the entire community. The simile used by Angelou to
represent the mood shift, ... as a black sky is streaked with lightning (par. 2), shows the sudden,
unexpected, and fast change from tense to high spirited talk. Angelou then goes to give examples the
pre game chatter like Joe s gonna whip that cracker like it s open season(par. 3 4). The diction used
shows the culture of that community. The hyperboles and details give a great view of the settings in
the story. Angelou then continues to tell the story using imagery of the crowd s reaction to the
announcer s voice. The line In the Store the crowd grunted (par. 6), gives a great image of the group s
general reaction before the fight quickly continues. Angelou continues to giving the crowds reaction
after each line the announcer blares (par. 7 11). The fight then takes a quick break for ads. The
announcer declared the break by giving a formal acknowledgment to the audience (par. 12). By doing

To be honest, I really did not want to go to see the Amistad, even though I had completed all written

My teachers at Options and my parents tried to convince me to go on the Amistad field trip. Elin

What Makes A Word Essay
Posted 30/05/2015 by Iain Campbell
What Makes a Word, a Word?
If a new word or neologism is not created by a lexicographer (the person who compiles a dictionary),
or any individual, then who decides what words will be a part of the English language? The speakers
of the language are who choose what words are used and which are not. It s the day to day users of the
language introducing and maintaining words, this is what evolves and shapes the way the English
language is spoken and understood by the people who use it.
There are a number ways in which a new word can be introduced into any given language, in this post
I will focus on the English language and the techniques commonly used to make new words in the
language. Not only does a word need to be created to be part of a language but it needs to be used as
part of the language regularly to be well recognised and accepted by the speakers, and there for an
official word in the language.
Shared Words
The first way a word can be made is through a different language sharing or donating a word with
another language or country. An English example of this technique would be the word ninja which
English speakers took from the Japanese and now is sometimes recognised as an English word. Once
the word is taken from a language the pronunciation and origins of the word become lost with time
and people can forget or are not able to tell that the word has foreign origins. Similarly Caramel is
stolen from another language and

Bruce Springsteen s Almost Dreamlike Song Nebraska
In Bruce Springsteen s almost dreamlike song Nebraska he sings about Charles Starkweather and his
girlfriend Carol Fugate. A young couple that went on a killing spree over eight days in Nebraska in the

serial killer. Springsteen writes, They wanted to know why I did what I did Well, sir, I guess there s
just a meanness in this world. as the last words of the song. This ending coupled with the historical
background expresses a few themes that I believe Springsteen wanted to convey. The first being that
people always seem to search for meaning in things, that sometimes have no meaning at all. Secondly,

Of Julius Caesar And Kamehameha As A Effective Leader
Effective Leader Essay Kamehameha the Great was a remarkable leader who fought for his people
and for his cause: to unite the Hawaiian Islands. The process was long, but the outcome was worth it.
The two remaining rulers of the Kingdoms of Hawai i came to a consensus and Hawai i had peace for
the first time in three decades. During his rule, Kamehameha with help from foreign advisors made
Hawai i wealthier and safer. On a different note, Julius Caesar s skill in politics and warfare helped
him earn the title of consul. Caesar used his resources and power to expand Rome s empire, his
fortune to distribute land to the unfortunate, and his authority to legislate laws for his people
(PBS.com). In the end, despite being from different centuries and countries, Kamehameha the Great
and Julius Caesar were both effective leaders because they reliable, benevolent, and did what could
benefit their people.
Both Julius Caesar and Kamehameha aided their countries to become wealthier and helped in times of
need. As king, Kamehameha took part in a trade between foreigners. While trading, Hawaii earned
most of its earnings from trading (mainly because of the thirst for sandalwood). However, the
sandalwood population began to plummet and, as a result, Kamehameha placed a kapu on sandalwood
younglings (26). In Rome, many were unemployed or poor, so Caesar went to fix this problem. Some
of the unemployed were offered jobs overseas while those who stayed behind relied on a monthly
grain supply.

how it operates, how the population is brought to a point where they accept a dictatorship, and

The Emergency Decree, as stated earlier, placed substantial restrictions on the people s personal
freedom, illustrating Hitler s step toward a dictatorship.
Considering how harsh Hitler s dictatorship was, it is hard not to wonder how and why the population
accepted his dictatorship. Hitler brought the population to this point mainly by the use of propaganda,
the manipulation and brainwashing of German youth, and, most importantly, the use of terror .
Issued on March 24th, 1933, and officially named the Law for Removing the Distress of the People
and the Reich , the Enabling Act essentially meant the end of democracy in Germany, establishing the
legal dictatorship of Hitler, by giving him the power to make laws without the approval of either the
Reichstag or the President . But why would the Reichstag vote for a dictator, and in effect, vote
themselves out of existence? In order to ensure that the Reichstag voted in favor of the Enabling Act,
Hitler used the method of intimidation and terror to coerce them when the members of the Reichstag
met in the Kroll Opera House to vote, the [armed] SA and SS men lined up at the exits 4 menacingly.
Proceeding the Enabling Act was the banning of trade unions and the Nazis political opponents. On
May 2nd, 1933, trade unions were closed their leaders were put in prisons, and their money was
confiscated. Replacing the trade unions was the German Labor Front. The GLF not only reduced

Personality shapes almost every aspect of an individual s life, and being satisfied with one s job is not
an exclusion. The way an individual outwardly and inwardly assesses themselves, their position and
their career, will play a role in their job performance, and ultimately their job satisfaction, which is
defined by some merely as how content an individual is with his or her job, whereas to others, it is
more complex. Job satisfaction to them involves multidimensional psychological responses to one s
job. The Correlation between the Factor Personality Model and Job Satisfaction Statement of Task The
main purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the link between the Big Five Factor of Personality
and overall job satisfaction. To conduct this investigation, the Barrick and Mount (1991) meta analysis
of the correlation between job performance and the Big Five Personality Model will be used as a
guide. Over the last 20 years, unanimity has developed that the five factor model of personality, more
frequently referred to as the Big Five (Goldberg, 1990), can be used to define the most remarkable
aspects of personality. The Big Five structure has become metaphysical across scopes, cultures, and
sources of ratings (McCrae John, 1992). The Big Five has been researched in areas of industrial
organizational psychology, predominantly regarding job performance (Barrick Mount, 1991).

The Loss Of Stillborn Loss
Stillborn loss
Historically perinatal loss such as stillborn is rarely a topic of discussion. (Avelin, Erlandsson,
Hildingsson, RÃ¥destad, 2011). Stillborn loss was not viewed as an problem, and was expected for
mothers to forget about the baby, and have another one, while siblings were told to forget about the
baby and not talk about the loss (Avelin et al., 2011). Perinatal loss responses can be vary widely as it
covers variety of loss from pregnancy to birth within a few weeks, but most often it is an unexpected
loss for many families who typically do not know what to do, what to expect and how to handle grief
(O leary Warland, 2013). Furthermore, there is very little information on Stillbirth experiences
especially about men who lose their child(Bonnette Broom, 2012). Experiencing the loss of a child
can be very difficult and often complicate grief which can affect parents social well being (Kersting
Wagner, 2012). In pregnancies that follows a loss such as perinatal loss, it has been found that parents
experience high levels of psychological distress, anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress. (O

Impact on parents
Parents develop an ongoing relationship with their unborn child throughout pregnancy stages. With
unexpected loss such as a stillborn, parents suddenly feel the event to be surreal. (Ryninks, Roberts

My Life Path My Music Changes With It
(title)
As I look back on the life I have lived so far I see that with every challenge or shift I have faced in my
life path my music changes with it. Whether I move to sad, upbeat, or empowering music, there is
always something I listen to to drift away from the world and think. I think music is important for
everyone because of that. It gives people an excuse to think and to comprehend what s going on in
their life. I know if I am going through something rough nothing feels better then to rest on my bed
with headphones in and forget about whatever is going on around me. However it seems hard for me
to forget about what is happening, for the music I select matches the moods I am in. As I go over my
timeline to this point in music, my choices seems to become more mature and more independent as I
grow up. A major point in my life in which a lot of things started to shift was in 3rd grade when my
parents got divorced.
As I look back on all the music I have listened to throughout my life the first song I can remember
hearing is Yellow Submarine by The Beatles. I have never forgotten about this song and I don t think I
ever will. I can remember when I was about five years old, my mom would throw a disc into a CD
player and repeat it all night and the only song on that CD was Yellow Submarine . Something about
its repetitive tune and the friendly voices of the beatles was always able to knock me out cold no
matter what mood I was in. I barely even got what the song was

Financial Analysis of the Healthcare Field
Introduction
In the ever changing dynamic of the healthcare industry, it is central to look at financial trends and
different types of financial analysis to capitalize on resources and minimize future impacts. With any
growing healthcare organization it is vital to be aware of one s internal and external environment, the
community it serves as well as the status of the economy. The purpose of this paper is to determine the
significance of certain types of financial analysis, particularly financial ratios, the use of EBITDA and
how they influence the healthcare field.
EBITDA, Financial Ratios and growing trends in healthcare EBITDA is an acronym which stands for
earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization and generally used to determine how
profitable a company can be (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). The basic understanding of the
EBITDA is defined as the money the company has made without considering expenses or taxes
(Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). This can give a false sense of how much the company is actually
making or worth. In a hypothetical situation, a company creates a product that costs the consumer $10,
and 200 are made to meet the projected demand. With EBITDA, it is assumed there is already a $2000
profit made even if the product is actually never purchased. EBITDA does not calculate the
manufacturing costs, taxes and employee salaries that go into making a product. Although EBITDA
does not seem to measure the actual value of a

Bull Float
Running the Bull Float Pouring concrete is a huge part of America s past. The Hoover Dam is entirely
made of concrete. The Dam was erected of 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete while all of its
additional facilities were an additional 1.11 million cubic yards of concrete (Arbeiter). That s 4.36
million cubic yards of concrete! Assuming that the average price of a yard of concrete is one hundred
dollars in today s standards that adds up to 436,000,000 dollars for the concrete alone! That price
doesn t include the worker s wages, the price of steel and metal that has to be put into the concrete,
and even the price it cost to build the temporary diversions of the river so that the dam could be
constructed.
Since the start of last school year, I have probably poured a total of over one hundred cubic yards of
concrete. Later on I will explain how to calculate what a cubic yard is, but for now, just know that
concrete is no joke. Everyone involved must be focused at all times and if anyone fails to complete
their job, then the entire pour could go downhill quickly. After reading this essay, I hope you learn to
not only respect the amount of effort and work required to have a successful concrete pour but also to
learn some of the basic things involved in concrete. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most pours require you to own a bull float. A bull float is an approximately three foot wide piece of
metal attached to the end of a series of poles. This is used when finishing the concrete. You start by
setting the float angled at approximately a thirty degree incline and run the float across the concrete.
When you make it to the other side of the pad, you need to reverse the floats angle and have a one
hundred and fifty degree angle instead. Newer bull floats have twistable handles which come in very
handy. Older ones, however, you just have to rise up into the air really high to reach the desired

The Capability Of individualized Courage to Survive In David Pelzer s A Child Called It. I m free? the

Regardless of how many times his mother Played the game, with him, he refused to give her the
satisfaction of victory. Along with approximately one in every five children, Davis underwent the
abuse, negligence, and shuffling in the foster system. As the protagonist of the autobiography A Child

Regardless of the multiple occasions that the school noticed his bruises found upon Dave s body, they
weren t able to fully accomplish much besides writing down the information placed into a file. By
withstanding his mother s abuse over the years, for his country, Dave was able to proudly serve during
Desert Storm and received commendations from President Reagan. Along with other types of
outstanding accomplishments, he is now an exceptional motivational speaker. In nineteen ninety,
Pelzer was entitled California s Volunteer of the year. As you first start reading the story you don t
understand how a mother could indulgence negligent actions toward her own children. A mother is
supposed to love their child unconditionally regardless of there measly mistakes. Yet as consistent as
ever Dave examines his surroundings while thinking just let me eat. Hit me again, but I have to have
food (Pg. 7) as he retrieves several blows to the face. As this tragic scenery continues it is highly
magnificent to notice that at least he is not the only individual fighting to keep him alive. Regardless
of the empathy and concern, Pelzer tried to protect his mother by exclaiming Mother never meant to
stab me. [He] [cried] as [he] spill[ed] [his] guts, telling them mother punishes [him]

The Outsiders, By SE Hinton
Ponyboys Story
Ponyboy tells us that, when you re a gang you stick up for members. If you don t stick up stick
together, make like brothers, it isn t a gang anymore, (Hinton 26). This is what the greasers do for each
other: they stick up for one another and build a supportive community. In the story, The Outsiders, by
SE Hinton, the book is about Ponyboy and his gang taking care of each other because there gang is
that they fight against the Socs. The characters and actions of this story create a supportive community
Kindness and Loyalty.
To begin with, characters and actions in The Outsiders prove the kindness creates a supportive
community. For example, the character Cherry proves when she thanks Ponyboy for stopping Dallas s
dirty talk so he is showing kindness. In the second chapter of the story, Cherry said, you didn t join
Dallas s dirty talk, and you made him leave us alone, (Hinton 26). What Cherry is saying is that
Ponyboy is the kindness, and nicest qualities that rare to her. By telling Ponyboy thanks, Cherry means
that having kindness by reading because Cherry and him look at the same sunset. If Cherry tells
Ponyboy thanks it s for what he did was kind then kindness characters matter to a supportive
community because they take peoples hate away a bit. Furthermore, an important action in the story
that proves kindness is when Ponyboy dropped the pop bottle because he wouldn t hurt anyone. When
Ponyboy says I can t use this, I said dropping the pop bottle, I

Jenny Durra Character Analysis
Analyzation of Jenny Curran: Trait and Psychodynamic Theories Looking at Psychodynamic areas in
Jenny Curran s life, it is easy to see where the root of her problems lie and how she grew into such a
troubled young woman. Whether she realized it at any stage of her life or not, Jenny s experiences as a
little girl followed her for the rest of her life. After her mother s death when she was only a little girl of
five years old, she unfortunately lives with her alcoholic father in Greenbow, Alabama. Her dad
sexually and physically assaults her and her two equally unfortunate siblings during the course of their
troubled childhood. In an innocent and desperate attempt to run away from her dad s alcohol induced
stupors, she and Forrest hide nearby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not uncommon that she found herself confused, wondering why she was dealt the cards given to
her and dwelling on why it was so hard for her to just disappear to a new place she didn t know. Since
Jenny s childhood was plagued by physical and sexual abuse from her drunken father, the police
whisked her away to coincide along with her grandmother during her teenage youth. The pain and
torture would nevertheless make an imprint upon her personality and make her the perfect example of
the psychodynamic theory. Upon a return visit to Greenbow, Alabama, Jenny sees her father s
abandoned house and is given an unhappy reminder of her abusive past. It was her unhealthy home
life that likely caused her to go astray, searching for the love and nurturing she never received as a
child. Her vulnerability as a child translated into pain and destruction as an adult. Jenny traveled down
a road to nowhere in her many pursuits, she had no goals or final destination in mind. She lived by the
seat of her pants. She led a whimsical, spontaneous life, but somewhere down the road she got lost.
Jenny was often confused and ran away from her true happiness. Jenny didn t care where the road or
more explicitly, life took her. For example, after an anti Vietnam rally in Washington, D.C., Jenny
once again abandons Forrest and hitches a ride from a random truck

20,000 megawatts by 2040, involving a range of different renewable energy technologies. To locate
new renewable energy development focus areas with suitable energy resources as well as updating
existing renewable energy sites. DRECP s focus for the ecological side is to preserve, restore, and

This quarter, I have been reading The Persuader by Lee Child. The main character, Jack Reacher, is an ex military cop, now a wandering lone wolf searching for justice. Two DEA agents approach him with a situation: they had an agent on a case who is now missing, but they can t open a case with the FBI because of legal issues. They know that Reacher is adroit in combat and undercover operations, and he accepts their request. Jack Reacher not only wants to help them but wants to find out why an old enemy that should be dead, may be involved with the case. While reading Lee Child s The Persuader, I have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evaluating this style made me realize that his unique writing style made Reacher seem even more like a real person. Right off the bat, I observed short, quick sentences showing Jack s thoughts. Since he used to be in the military, he absorbs every little detail around him, predicting all of the possible outcomes. An example can be shown in this quote: Duke went back to his car. It bounced off the shoulder and straightened up. I followed him through the two miles. We killed our lights a hundred yards short of the driveway and made the turn. Took it slow. There was some moonlight. His fast and almost incomplete thoughts make him seem ready to react at any moment. While making Reacher s character consistent, Lee Child also demonstrates thorough knowledge about military technology topics. At one point in the book, Reacher uses an old school code to communicate a secret message to someone. Also, with each weapon that comes up in the book, Jack Reacher seems to have a deep understanding of all of them. This adds to making him seem even more like a real character because of his military background, so he would obviously have to know a lot about guns and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Did Voltaire Contribute To The Danger Of Despotism Voltaire Voltaire was a French philosopher in the eighteen century, a period of free thinkers where freedom of thought was emerging sufficiently. However, he and others were not academically trained scholars operating in official institutions of their time. They largely depended on talent and the knowledge they had acquired in school having come from able families. On his part, Voltaire greatly defended civil liberties including freedom of religion and right to fair trial. He went against all odds to ensure social reform despite laws in France for those that were found to have broken them. He was satirical as he often used his work to criticize church doctrine. On his part, he failed to advocate for atheism or the overthrow of the French regime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His mentor John Luke and England s uncertain empiricism were the motives behind his philosophical views. He was a hypocrite in some manner as his philosophical ideas, and social criticisms were not original although he portrayed a keen common sense. He contradicted Rousseau s believe that civilization corrupts man as he believed in progress and the virtues of civilization. Voltaire significantly took part in fighting for religious liberty. He found the act of people believing in one religion dangerous as this could expose them to the danger of despotism. He was controversial as he articulated that existence of two or more religions would generate violence among people. Undiplomatically, he is said to have fought to an unusual extent to right the wrongs done against Protestants who had beliefs different to his. Voltaire did not like Catholic Church institutions as he found them abusive. Eventually, this made Voltaire engaged in an intense battle against the Catholic Church as he found it skeptical of religious keenness and the emphasis of human sin. He advised people to take religion as a deterrent and encouragement towards the good life. Notably, he had invented a saying that if God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him. This was controversial as by this he just sought to encourage the worshiping of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Character Analysis Of The Addams Family Musical The Addams Family Musical was performed by the Brickstreet players at the Wills Point High school. They performed on November 11, 2017, at 2:00 pm. The major conflict of this production was that Wednesday Addams wanted to marry a normal boy named Lucas. Neither set of parents were happy that their children wanted to get married. The dominant tone of the play was cosmic. There were many ongoing jokes throughout the play, for example, the character Lurch who is an undead butler is always two paces behind everything such as when Gomez said a joke, and everyone laughs it took until everyone stopped laughing for Lurch to start. Another example would be the grandmother, even though she was not on stage for very long when she was hilarious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All the actors were required to sing and for being a high school production they did really well. The director did an excellent job casting the group of actors. The performance space was in a cafetorium and the stage was on the smaller side. The back of the stage was set up as if it was an old abandon graveyard, with dead trees, old crumbly headstones, and a large black entry gate. Then when it was time for the scene set in and out of the house they had movable walls, and door set on wheels. This gave the illusion that we were now indoors or outside of the house depending on the scene. When we were inside they had furniture such as tables, chairs, and a couch. When we were outside they had trees, bushes, and dead plants. The lighting of the play was on the darker side to help create the Addams Family come to life. The loss of the scenery would have completely destroy the whole story. The costumes fit the personality of each character perfectly. For example, Gomez Addams costume was just like the one we are all use to. He wore a black and white pin striped suite, with slicked back black hair and his signature black mustache. Another example is Uncle Fester he wear a black moomoo looking gown with a bold hear and a sickly appearance. Next would be the Addams dead relatives, they were all dressed in white from head to toe. There are some human activities, such as burning of fossil fuels and cutting down tropical forests, have gained atmospheric absorption of heat trapping gases releases enormous amounts into the air. It means that the Earth s surface temperature increases, and the oceans absorb that additional heat. There is no doubt that when the ocean is warmer, large ice formations, like glaciers and the polar ice caps, naturally melt back faster and add more water to the oceans. • 10. Cultural Conflict In Tuptim s The King And I The King and I takes place in Bangkok, Siam in the year 1862; after a recently widowed English schoolteacher, Anna Leonowens, and her son, Louis, move there to give the King of Siam s children and wives a westernized education in hopes that this will plunge Bangkok into the modern world. Anna struggles with the king because their cultural beliefs are so different, but the conflict diminishes after the king finds out that Britain would like to take over Siam. He calls upon Anna to help him look less barbaric and she advises him to invite the British and show them how wrong they are by dining with them and showing a play written by Tuptim, the king s latest wife, based on Uncle Tom s Cabin. After the play Tuptim runs away with her lover, but is caught and returned to the palace where the king kills her lover and Tuptim is never seen again to Anna s dismay. She decides to leave Siam, but on the day of her departure she is informed that the king is sick; she returns to see him right before he dies and his son is made king to rule in the ways of the West. The main conflict in The King and I is a cultural dispute between Anna s western ideas and the king s traditional cultural values. • 11. Rit Effect Essay If much of what enters consciousness does so in a reflex like manner, regardless of whether such contents are a product of high or low level processes, do representations during the process of refreshing behave similarly down stream? If this notion were to be held true, one would expect little to no difference in the reflex like entry of contents into consciousness from one point in time to another. This phenomenon is worth delving into primarily because decision making and directed thought frequently carries the connotation of being willful, intentional, and vastly different from what one might experience during the RIT. To test this hypothesis, a variant of the RIT was designed to examine involuntary cognitions moments after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interestingly, participants fail to suppress such subvocalizations on a vast majority of the trials (e.g., 0.86 in Allen et al., 2013; 0.87 in Cho et al., 2014; and 0.73 in Merrick et al., 2015). In more complex variants of the RIT (Cushing, Gazzaley, Morsella, 2017), participants would (a) indicate by button press the basic RIT effect and (b) press another button if the involuntary subvocalization rhymed with a word held in mind (e.g., stir ). Since the act of rhyming requires the retrieval of either the whole object name or, at minimum, the coda of the word, accurate performance ( .80 mean accuracy across trials) on this rhyming task supports the notion that subjects involuntary experienced such subvocalizations. Though the RIT has revealed many insights, the entry of unintentional contents into consciousness is not fully understood. Correspondingly, the many processes that give rise to the RIT effect are the result of a synergistic cascade. For example, in order for the effect to arise, there first needs to be the induction of an action set (e.g., to not subvocalize the name of visual objects). The final mechanism that results in the RIT effect occurs when the onset of the visual object activates the stages of processing that lead to the action effect of subvocalizing. It is important to note that, without the activation of the relevant action set, it is unlikely that participants would experience the phonological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night In every piece of literature that we ve read, there is always one character that stands out to you. The science behind why that happens all narrows down to the complex human brain. The human brain is separated into different sections. (Frontal lobe, cerebellum, etc.) One of the most important parts of our brain is the Limbic System. The Limbic System is responsible for controlling the emotions that you may feel in a situation. For example, if you see a child fall off his bike, you may feel sympathy for him/her since you once fell off of your bike. Now, let s not get too scientific! To boil down a detailed science, your emotions are also involved in the thinking process while you read. You may make connections to the character, or have your own opinion on the events that occur throughout the book. This is part of the reason you may find a character to be intriguing. • 14. The Villain Of Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald The Villain of Gatsby Here s the thing about stories; they re all different, but they re all the same. Now, everyone knows how they re different. Different letters make up different words which make up different sentences. It s this difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories is much less understood. They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of archetypes, most importantly the hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable. Every batman has a joker, Luke will always face Darth Vader, and the mailman and dog will wage war to the end of time. It is by examining stories through these archetypes that it becomes easier to see their similarities. When it comes to The Great Gatsby, however, things become much more complicated. The story, complete with layers of deception, lust, and corruption blurs the traditional archetypes that a reader looks for in a story. When the individual qualities of the characters are examined, however, their roles can become much clearer. Through his obsession, his false identity, and his selfish attitude Jay Gatsby is the villain of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The term hopeless romantic isn t typically associated with villainous behaviors. You don t see Romeo compared to Cruella De Ville fairly often. Educational research shows that students forget a lot of what they learned in school over the long summer break, so teachers must spend the beginning of the next school year reviewing this information instead of teaching new lessons (Ballinger and Kneese 2). Students could learn significantly more material in school with a year round schedule because they would remember more of the previous information they have learned. Many failing schools have a large proportion of students from disadvantaged homes, and these students are more prone to summer learning loss (3). Since this loss accumulates each year, these students become so far behind their peers that they decide to drop out (3). According to a study in the American Sociological Review, the information that students from low income families lose over summer breaks accumulates and contributes to the perpetuation of family advantage and disadvantage across generations ( Leave 1). By changing to a year round calendar, les students from low income households will drop out of school, which helps to break the poverty cycle. Also, year round schooling makes it easier to learn a second language because this skill requires daily or frequent practice (Ballinger and Kneese 4). Fresco of Six Kings and Naked Woman, a mural painted in the changing room of Jordan s Qasr Amra depicts figures of male and female in total contrast. The inner wall of this architecture is lavishly decorated with figures symbolizing power of the region. The left space of the fresco is filled blue with 6 figures standing inside it. They are well dressed in luxurious robes decorated carefully with fine patterns. Patterned fabrics expend larger energy to be produced thus resulting in higher price. Also, the representation of the robe corresponds to the costume of Byzantine emperor from 5 to 6th Century. Literary Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Champion Of The World The excerpt titled Champion of the World is extracted from Maya Angelou s autobiographical work I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, published in 1969. This passage tells the story of Angelou s community gathering at the local store to watch the match between Joe Louis and Primo Carnera in June of 1935. Angelou describes the spirit of the black community in Stamps, Arkansas as they listen to a match between two heavyweight boxers. Angelou Uses extensive imagery to depict the tension before the match, the excitement during the match and the celebration after the match. The imagery, hyperboles and many other rhetorical devices help to give the reader a great sense of the events depicted in this excerpt. In the first section of the story, Angelou uses figures of speech and extensive detail to show the importance of the event to her community. The first line, The last inch of space was filled, yet people continued to wedge themselves along the walls of the Store (par. 1), Angelou uses a hyperbole to give vivid imagery that emphasizes the number of people in the Store. The second line where Uncle Willie had turned up the radio so that youngsters on the porch wouldn t miss a word (par.1), shows the devotion and involvement of the entire community. The simile used by Angelou to represent the mood shift, ... as a black sky is streaked with lightning (par. 2), shows the sudden, unexpected, and fast change from tense to high spirited talk. Angelou then goes to give examples the pre game chatter like Joe s gonna whip that cracker like it s open season(par. 3 4). The diction used shows the culture of that community. The hyperboles and details give a great view of the settings in the story. Angelou then continues to tell the story using imagery of the crowd s reaction to the announcer s voice. The line In the Store the crowd grunted (par. 6), gives a great image of the group s general reaction before the fight quickly continues. If a new word or neologism is not created by a lexicographer (the person who compiles a dictionary), or any individual, then who decides what words will be a part of the English language? The speakers of the language are who choose what words are used and which are not. It s the day to day users of the language introducing and maintaining words, this is what evolves and shapes the way the English language is spoken and understood by the people who use it. There are a number ways in which a new word can be introduced into any given language, in this post I will focus on the English language and the techniques commonly used to make new words in the language. Not only does a word need to be created to be part of a language but it needs to be used as part of the language regularly to be well recognised and accepted by the speakers, and there for an official word in the language. Shared Words The first way a word can be made is through a different language sharing or donating a word with another language or country. An English example of this technique would be the word ninja which English speakers took from the Japanese and now is sometimes recognised as an English word. Once the word is taken from a language the pronunciation and origins of the word become lost with time and people can forget or are not able to tell that the word has foreign origins. • 38. Antigone Gender Roles Creon Gender roles is a major theme in Antigone. The characters all have different ways of acting on the same conflict. Antigone and Creon are the main characters, but Ismene and Haemon s roles are also significant when it comes to the gender roles in the play. Due to the time period, women and men were expected to act a certain way. Antigone and Haemon do not act like the typical woman and man of their time; Creon and Ismene do. Gender roles are important in Antigone because the actions the characters choose to take is what leads to conflict in the play. In Antigone, there was a battle between two brothers, Eurydice and Polynices. They were battling for the throne and both ended up murdering each other. Creon, the king of Thebes, ruled that ... • 39. The Loss Of Stillborn Loss Stillborn loss Historically perinatal loss such as stillborn is rarely a topic of discussion. (Avelin, Erlandsson, Hildingsson, RÃ¥destad, 2011). Stillborn loss was not viewed as an problem, and was expected for mothers to forget about the baby, and have another one, while siblings were told to forget about the baby and not talk about the loss (Avelin et al., 2011). Perinatal loss responses can be vary widely as it covers variety of loss from pregnancy to birth within a few weeks, but most often it is an unexpected loss for many families who typically do not know what to do, what to expect and how to handle grief (O leary Warland, 2013). • 41. My Life Path My Music Changes With It (title) As I look back on the life I have lived so far I see that with every challenge or shift I have faced in my life path my music changes with it. Whether I move to sad, upbeat, or empowering music, there is always something I listen to to drift away from the world and think. I think music is important for everyone because of that. It gives people an excuse to think and to comprehend what s going on in their life. I know if I am going through something rough nothing feels better then to rest on my bed with headphones in and forget about whatever is going on around me. However it seems hard for me to forget about what is happening, for the music I select matches the moods I am in. As I go over my timeline to this point in music, my choices seems to become more mature and more independent as I grow up. A major point in my life in which a lot of things started to shift was in 3rd grade when my parents got divorced. As I look back on all the music I have listened to throughout my life the first song I can remember hearing is Yellow Submarine by The Beatles. I have never forgotten about this song and I don t think I ever will. I can remember when I was about five years old, my mom would throw a disc into a CD player and repeat it all night and the only song on that CD was Yellow Submarine . Something about its repetitive tune and the friendly voices of the beatles was always able to knock me out cold no matter what mood I was in. I barely even got what the song was ... • 42. Financial Analysis of the Healthcare Field Introduction In the ever changing dynamic of the healthcare industry, it is central to look at financial trends and different types of financial analysis to capitalize on resources and minimize future impacts. With any growing healthcare organization it is vital to be aware of one s internal and external environment, the community it serves as well as the status of the economy. The purpose of this paper is to determine the significance of certain types of financial analysis, particularly financial ratios, the use of EBITDA and how they influence the healthcare field. EBITDA, Financial Ratios and growing trends in healthcare EBITDA is an acronym which stands for earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization and generally used to determine how profitable a company can be (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). The basic understanding of the EBITDA is defined as the money the company has made without considering expenses or taxes (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). This can give a false sense of how much the company is actually making or worth. In a hypothetical situation, a company creates a product that costs the consumer $10, and 200 are made to meet the projected demand. With EBITDA, it is assumed there is already a $2000 profit made even if the product is actually never purchased. EBITDA does not calculate the manufacturing costs, taxes and employee salaries that go into making a product. Although EBITDA does not seem to measure the actual value of a ... • 43. Bull Float Running the Bull Float Pouring concrete is a huge part of America s past. The Hoover Dam is entirely made of concrete. The Dam was erected of 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete while all of its additional facilities were an additional 1.11 million cubic yards of concrete (Arbeiter). That s 4.36 million cubic yards of concrete! Assuming that the average price of a yard of concrete is one hundred dollars in today s standards that adds up to 436,000,000 dollars for the concrete alone! That price doesn t include the worker s wages, the price of steel and metal that has to be put into the concrete, and even the price it cost to build the temporary diversions of the river so that the dam could be constructed. Since the start of last school year, I have probably poured a total of over one hundred cubic yards of concrete. Later on I will explain how to calculate what a cubic yard is, but for now, just know that concrete is no joke. Everyone involved must be focused at all times and if anyone fails to complete their job, then the entire pour could go downhill quickly. After reading this essay, I hope you learn to not only respect the amount of effort and work required to have a successful concrete pour but also to learn some of the basic things involved in concrete. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most pours require you to own a bull float. A bull float is an approximately three foot wide piece of metal attached to the end of a series of poles. This is used when finishing the concrete. You start by setting the float angled at approximately a thirty degree incline and run the float across the concrete. When you make it to the other side of the pad, you need to reverse the floats angle and have a one hundred and fifty degree angle instead. Newer bull floats have twistable handles which come in very handy. Older ones, however, you just have to rise up into the air really high to reach the desired ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
