Similarities Between Clowning Around And All The Different...
We have our own problems today, but nothing compared to the alternate realities that the authors here
have created. Although these are great stories, only one of the finalists can be better. The stories
Clowning Around and All the Different Kinds of Rats are the same in the sense that they have similar
messages. These two pieces of literature have their respective similarities and differences, but the big
topic here is a problem. Firstly, the similarities between the two pieces. The message of unity or lack
thereof is portrayed in both pieces. Passages like The people then started to divide themselves or What
set them apart was mostly age, which they were able to overcome show how important unity can be,
or how weak a lack of cooperation is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story Clowning Around is told in a broad, third person viewpoint. The story takes place in a
prolonged amount of time in 745 words, but there are quick transitions and quick elevation of tension,
but there is a sense of graduality that works out in the authors favor. The story jumps from the sun
rising to the as the people wake up multiple times. All the Different Kinds of Rats, however, has a
specific third person perspective and a small time frame. Only one day in 737 words, but the detail
from the newspapers and gum to a diminutive mattress this story isn t entirely pure story or action, but
provides more background and context. Lastly, the actual situations of the two stories are completely
different, but I think that the way that Clowning Around represents reality is quite brilliant, and the
social commentary of what can happen is so genius that you need to read between the lines to notice
it. All the Different Kinds of Rats, on the other hand, is a story about two poor brothers struggling
through everyday life, and while this does convey a deeper message, it doesn t feel like the author
made any comment on a relevant

To what extent are volcanic landforms fundamental to our understanding of plate tectonics theory?
(40) Plate tectonics theory is the scientific theory that describes the large scale motion of the Earth s
lithosphere, which is broken up into tectonic plates. Volcanic landforms are undoubtedly very
important in aiding our understanding of plate tectonic theory. However, there is other evidence that
must be considered as well. Different types of volcanoes are created at plate margins due to the
viscosity of the lava. The two main types of volcanoes are composite volcanoes and shield volcanoes.
Composite volcanoes are generally formed at destructive plate boundaries as high viscous lava is
produced as less dense oceanic crust is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is the south east coast of North America and the south west coast of Africa. This
aids our understanding of plate tectonic theory on a large scale over millions of years. However,
although there is a lot of evidence from volcanic landforms that can be used to explain plate tectonics
theory, there is other important evidence that cannot be ignored. Fossil evidence is very important for
our understanding of plate tectonics theory. Similar animal fossils have been found on the South
American and African continents. These fossils suggest that the continents were once joined together.
Fossils of an extinct reptile, named a Mesosaurus, have been found in southern Africa and South
America. Scientists believe that the only explanation for this fossil being found on these two
continents is that they were once joined and have become separated due to plate movements. Plant
fossils, such as a fossil of the Glossopteris tree have been found in several countries across the
Southern Hemisphere such as India, Australia and even Antarctica. The discovery of these fossils
prompted scientists to conclude that these countries must once have been joined in one large land
mass. The discovery of such fossils as this in Antarctica gives additional weight to this theory as
vegetation cannot survive the harsh Antarctic environment suggesting that if vegetation has been able
to grow previously, the positioning of the continent must have been

How to Improve the Australian Diet
The Australian government is always looking for ways to improve the Australian diet. Ways that this
has been done is through health campaigns. Two campaigns that the government has used and could
work really effectively is Shape up Australia and Measure Up. Both these campaigns are aimed at
Men and Women. The Shape up Australia campaign effectiveness cannot be judged as the campaign
has not finished but could have a rough guess on how the campaign is going. The measure up
campaign was about allowing people to understand why having excess weight around your waist can
be unhealthy for you. The campaign was proposed to run from 2006 to 2010 but then was extended to
July 2013. As the Measure up campaign was more heard about it was deemed to be the more effective
campaign.
The Measure up campaign was about allowing people to understand why carrying unhealthy amount
of weight around your hips can be dangerous. When people carry unhealthy amounts of weight around
the waist, they might not realise that it also increase the risks of lifestyle related chronic diseases such
as heart attack, stroke, diabetes and arthritis (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2013).
Throughout the campaign it has been proven that the campaign reached the target audience and got the
aim of the campaign and how to stop this. The campaign reached the vast majority of the Australian
population, and had a very high level of campaign recognition with 91% of the people recognized the
campaign. The

The procurement process
The procurement life cycle can be made up into 13 key stages. The stages I am going to follow the
CIPS stages of procurement and supply management. (Cips.org, 2017)
(Cips.org, 2017)
Stage 1
The first stage of the process is to understand and define the buyer s needs. This is where the
procurement department need to recognize that a product is needed in order to purchase it. This needs
to be done with a high level specification which can be achieved by using a variety of stakeholders.
This stage is where all the requirements for the product need be identified.
Stage 2
The second stage is market/commodity this needs to be taken place after the buyer has got the buyer
needs to a high specification to ensure that at this stage the right product is chosen. At this stage the
procurement department need to research all options available within the market. By getting an
estimate of what is on the current market, it enables the buyer to pick out potential suppliers also
familiarising the buyer with the competition in the market. This is also the stage where the
procurement department would be able to look into conducting an analysis on how they are going to
achieve the product i.e. make or purchase it/ utilize the service. By conducting market research it gives
stakeholders a clear picture of the market.
Stage 3
The third stage is developing the plan. Once the specification has been

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this design project was to investigate the effect of various design and operating
parameters on the thermal efficiency, net work output per unit mass, and back work ratio of a
regenerative Brayton cycle. Specifically, these parameters include the pressure ratio, TminTmax ratio,
regenerator effectiveness, and compressor and turbine efficiencies, assuming the working fluid to be
air at 100kPa and 300K at the compressor inlet. Model calculations are presented ... Show more

Due to their low overall thermal efficiencies, gas turbines initially had limited uses. As time has
passed, many renovations have been implemented to the gas turbine cycle to make it more efficient.
Some modifications include: increasing the turbine inlet temperatures, increasing the efficiencies of
turbo machinery components, and adding modifications to the basic cycle. In contrast to the ideal
cycle, the actual cycle undergoes unavoidable pressure drops during the heat addition and heat
rejection processes. In addition, the actual work input to the compressor is always more than the
output and the actual work output of the turbine is less than the work input due to irreversibility. These
relationships are displayed in the figures below:
Four other common modifications to the simple ideal and actual Brayton cycles include: 1)
Regeneration 2) Reheat 3) Intercooling 4) Regeneration with Reheat and Intercooling
The only methods amongst these choices that improve the overall thermal efficiency of the ideal
Brayton cycle are those that utilize regeneration. However, each of these four improvements also
increase the initial cost of building the equipment as well as the maintenance cost for the cycle. Thus,
deciding which power cycle to build depends on economics as much as it depends on engineering.

Merit In The Daily Life Of A Buddhist Monk
The daily life for monks found on page 345 356, provides ongoing examples of how monks preserved
and circulated the teachings of Buddha through practice. Merit plays a significant role in the Buddhist
monasteries. Merit is not signally achieved through scriptures and teachings, however it is
implemented throughout their daily routine. Lopez mentions, In order to obtain monastic life, one
must clearly understand the rules (pg. 345). One could only hope by understanding the rules, a sense
of empathy starts to emerge. The daily life of a monk teaches them to avoid every offense
appropriately (pg. 346). The rules teach the monks to become more emotional intelligent, which is the
pathways to achieve merit. After reading through rules for monks

Lolita Essay
De victimizing Lolita: Removing Emotion from the Classroom
Abstract: This paper focuses on Vladimir Nabokov s novel Lolita. Specifically the argument discusses
the need for reform within the classroom setting regarding student reaction and interpretation to the
text. Class discussion involving Lolita tends to fall under a blanket of socially constructed
presumptions that lend the discussion toward a shallow and judgmental reading of the text, and this
tendency limits the discussion. This paper argues that, for a teacher attempting to teach this novel, it is
important to limit the amount of emotionally reactionary responses and guide the class towards a more
allegorical or symbolic representation of the text. This paper is intended for ... Show more content on

However, when I found myself again discussing Lolita with this same narrow approach in my
graduate class, I began to wonder if the majority of readers only focused on Humbert Humbert s
transgressions. Had the rest of the world missed the point? Could no one recognize the genius behind
the monster? Is it possible for the average reader to grasp the ironic intentions of the author, or is
Lolita forever overshadowed by the reader s need to judge and dismiss?
Too often Lolita is read from only one perspective, the perspective of monstrosity. Nabokov the
pornographer threatened to expose and corrupt others, particularly children, through the publication of
a novel about unnatural desire (Whiting 835). The tendency is for the average reader to become
entangled in a moral debate, to take opposition to the seemingly criminal and amoral acts of the
narrator, to condemn him for his blatant and grotesque sin. This surface analysis of the text was
prevalent at the time of publication, delaying the release of the novel in the United States by three
years. Most reviews of the novel [Lolita] dealt with the narrow issue of its alleged obscenity. The
novel was published three years earlier in France because Nabokov could not find an American
publisher ready to risk publishing it (Tamir Ghez 65). Critical theory since this time has uncovered
multiple layers of interpretation that offer much more meaningful analysis of the novel

An Organization Map Technology For Big Data
The internet has changed the ways in which data can be collected and more importantly, it has
changed the amount of data available (Grover, 2014). Social behaviors, networking behaviors and
information sharing are providing organizations with volumes of data and there is a need to be able to
understand, manage and define all of the information. This trend of voluminous data is known as, big
data. According to the International Journal of Computer and Electronics Research, in 2014, there is
no extensive reference architecture currently available for big data (Grover, 2014). Several small scale
data architectures exist, but most are limited in scope or missing the functional views which help an
organization map technology to function ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, information asymmetry is an issue for consumers and supply chains when interoperable
data does not align. This exists because one party (either the buyer or producer) has less than perfect
information than the other.
According to an article by Information and Technology Management, a great deal of information
asymmetry exists in the coffee supply chain. This article describes the data incompatibility between
small and medium coffee farmers, roasters, and traders. Producers (coffee farmers) are usually a
cooperative of many small farmers and being able to gather documentation to identify the source and
quality of the coffee is difficult (Sayogo, Zhang, Luna Reyes, Jarman, Tayi, Lines Andersen, Pardo,
Andersen, 2015).
Many farmers believe the data collection is not valuable and waste of their time and effort for many
reasons. Including limited resources such as staff and technology, and information bias (competition
based on too much information about the supply). Furthermore, the entire process is overly too
difficult to perform in a uniformed way. Most important, this results in the farmers incurring
additional costs to ensure data collection that they may not see a profit for later (Sayogo, Zhang, Luna
Reyes, Jarman, Tayi, Lines Andersen, Pardo, Andersen, 2015).
Therefore, incorrect or assumed information is collected to the best of the producer s knowledge

Rhetorical Devices In Upon The Burning Of Our House
Upon the Burning of our House, July 10th, 1666 was written by Anne Bradstreet, America s first
published poet and a famous Puritan writer. The poem is about Bradstreet fleeing her house after she
wakes up and discovers that her house has been engulfed in flames. She begins to mourn the loss of
her personal items but quickly scolds herself because she believes God has created a home for her in
heaven. As Bradstreet takes her mind off losing her earthly possessions, she realizes that she must
dissolve her ties to the real world and instead focus on keeping a strong relationship with God.
Throughout the poem Upon the Burning of our House, July 10th, 1666, Anne Bradstreet uses
rhetorical devices to express that one must overcome their internal struggle with cherishing things on
Earth and instead focus on dedicating themselves to serving God who will provide things far more
valuable than anything in real life. Anne Bradstreet uses diction to explain how her focus on God has
created a life far more beneficial than the one on Earth. For example, Bradstreet expresses this when
she bids her house farewell as it is burned to the ground. In silence ever shalt thou lie; Adieu, Adieu,
all s vanity (Bradstreet 35 36). Bradstreet finally recognizes the fact that everything she owns belongs
to God, and there is nothing she can do about it. By using the phrase All s Vanity , she emphasizes the
unimportance of her material goods and instead praises the things that God has provided for

Essay on The History of Five Churches in London
The churches of London have been through a lot over the past few centuries and the show us every

80 churches.

A new way of building a church was with a cross in square plan, that is said to be a dutch influence,
and a very untraditional nave and aisles with subsidiary chapels.
A lot of churches needed a general rebuilding in the 18th and 19th century such as St.Bartholomew the
Great and All Hallows London Wall. These restoration were needed because of dissolution and decay.
During the 19th century declining population and church attendance in the city intersected with
growing appreciation of the buildings . Because of that Bishop Tait enforced the Union of Benefices
Act of 1860 which lead to the demolition of 16 city churches.
Around that time St.Nicholas Cole Abbey was disturbed during the laying of the London Underground
and St.Bride s Fleet Street was struck by lightening and needed some restoration.
A much bigger impact had the damage that was caused by bombs during the second World War. St.
Olave Hart Street for example was hit by four strikes and was restored in 1951 1954. Other Churches
such as All Hallows London Wall and St.Bride s Fleet Street had some serious war damage and
St.Nicholas Cole Abbey was burnt out in 1941 and reconstructed in 1961 1962. Even though those
churches needed some restoring architects of the 20th century tried to keep it as original as possible
and focused on the old parts of the church without any modern influence.
Throughout these years the churches were adapted

Conventions Of Modernism
The Modernism literary period represented a paradigm shift for breaking established traditions of the
previous centuries. Modernism has no definitive starting point but can be argued to have begun in the
early 1900s to the mid 1900s. However, rather than optimism, the focus of many writers revolved
around pessimistic ideas that saw the faults in humanity. In order to break conventions, many different
writing styles emerged in search of uniqueness. The literary period of Modernism characterizes around
its starting circumstances, beliefs, and famous works.
Modernism rose to prominence in the early years of the twentieth century with the horrors of World
War I being the catalyst to the reformation in beliefs (Rahn, Modernism ; Lorcher ... Show more

A prime example is James Joyce, who brings together a unique writing style abandoning standard
elements of fictions and explores the human mind in Ulysses. The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot also
strays from convention as well as incorporates it in biblical like verses and references that focus on the
emptiness of Industrialism (Rahn, Modernism ; Lorcher Modernism in Literature ). Another example
is Ford Madox Ford s The Good Soldier that analyzes war s consequences. Each example incorporates
the defining characteristics of Modernism whether in being unconventional, analytical, or displaying
negativity.
The Modernism Period in English defines itself in starting circumstances, beliefs, and famous works.
In essence, the inspiration from war and society s advances led the way to new beliefs and changes in
perception of the world. Nevertheless, the beliefs brought on from negativity often burgeons more
negativity while the truth is thought as relative. Furthermore, famous works such as Ulysses, The
Waste Land, and The Good Soldier present unmistakable aspects of the Modernism Period.
Revelations allow one to break from old

WELCOME ADDRESS by Host Pastor
The great God that deserves to be praised greatly is our God (Psalm 145:3). Jesus Christ, the same
yesterday, today and forever. Hallelujah! It was just like yesterday when the Lord told us three years
before this parish was birthed that we would be coming to Akron. As it is written, Though thy
beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase, we have seen God s faithfulness over
the last seven years in every life, every marriage, every home in the church, in the parish and in our

Essay about The Results of Children in Fatherless Homes
Divorce and out of wedlock childbearing are now epidemic in American society. Both forms of
disrupted families are harmful to children and to society. The children of single parents are more likely
to do poorly in school, commit crimes, and become single parents themselves. In addition, the increase
in single parent families contributes to such social problems as poverty, crime, and a decline in the
quality of public education.
Divorce and out of wedlock childbirth are transforming the lives of American children. In the postwar
generation more than 80 percent of children grew up in a family with two biological parents who were
married to each other. By 1980 only 50 percent could expect to spend their entire childhood in an

Indeed, they help to explain why family structure is such an explosive issue for Americans. The debate
about it is not simply about the social scientific evidence, although that is surely an important part of
the discussion. It is also a debate over deeply held and often conflicting values. How do we begin to
reconcile our long standing belief in equality and diversity with an impressive body of evidence that
suggests that not all family structures produce equal outcomes for children? How can we square
traditional notions of public support for dependent women and children with a belief in women s right
to pursue autonomy and independence in childbearing and child rearing? How do we uphold the
freedom of adults to pursue individual happiness in their private relationships and at the same time
respond to the needs of children for stability, security, and permanence in their family lives? What do
we do when the interests of adults and children conflict? These are the difficult issues at stake in the
debate over family structure.

In the past these issues have turned out to be too difficult and too politically risky for debate. In the

The Dawn Of Retinal Prosthetic Devices
The Dawn of Retinal Prosthetic Devices
The war against human blindness has been ongoing affair since the beginning of time. Because the
origin of blindness varies from case to case, there is no single remedy and limited solutions are
available to the visually impaired. However, recent technological breakthroughs have allowed
scientists and doctors to test out possible solutions to a particular niche in the blindness spectrum:
degenerative retinal diseases. Degenerative retinal diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) attack
the retina exclusively. Because of that exclusivity, the other structures in the eye are typically not
compromised. Therefore, the use of a retinal implant or prosthetic device to restore functional vision is
possible. While it is important to note that retinal implants are still a pioneering technology, clinical
trials such as the Argus II clinical trial, and eye health care professionals alike are reporting promising
results. As such, it seems likely that retinal prosthetic devices will be a game changer in the future
treatment of degenerative retinal diseases since the devices can restore a form of vision to an
otherwise blind patient.

Oh and did I mention this health insurance only includes Medical, if your looking to get Dental and
Vision your going to have dish out the money for these supplemental plans.
THE PUBLIC IS UNEDUCATED
Like we learned above, insurance jargon is not easy to understand, the average person is supposed to
be expected to apply and choose a plan from their home computer. While this sounds convenient, it is
also unrealistic and leads to a frustrating experience. While on yelp.com I came across the reviews
page for Covered CA, out of 192 reviews 174 them were one star, I started to go threw these reviews
and most of them were either discussing their frustrations with the website incompetence, upset about
the cost, or just plain do not understand the process or beneļ¬ts they are paying for.
The steps to complete an application are as follows:
1. Set up an account online
2. Enter personal, household, and income information
3. Submit documents requested (proof of income, citizenship, etc.)
4. Choose a level of coverage
(This is where it can become extra tricky, they have to decipher what is meant by deductible, co pay,
co insurance, maximum out of pocket expense, HMO vs PPO etc.)
5. Choose the actual insurance company
(Do they all cover the same thing, what doctors do they offer, why is this company cheaper than that
one?)

The shorter the distance of the light to the sample the manier the bubbles are produced each minute.
The longer the distance of the light to the sample the lesser the bubbles are produced each minute.
It means that the higher the light intensity the rate of photosynthesis is increasing, the lower the light

What Is Reflex Action In Response To External Stimuli
Reflex actions as a response to external stimuli
A reflex action is defined as an involuntarily, nearly instantaneous, movement in response to a
stimulus (Boundless, 2016). A reflex action is a response that does not need any thought input. For
example, when a person accidentally touches a hot object, the automatic response that results is that
they move their hand away without even thinking. With that being said, the path that is taken by the
nerve impulse in a reflex action is called a reflex arc (Boundless, 2016). The main components that
make up the reflex arc , as depicted in the image below, consist of the receptor, afferent or sensory
neuron, integration centre, and the efferent or motor neuron. A reflex action can be initiated by various
stimuli such as internal or external stimuli. An internal stimulus is that which is from within the
organism itself whereas an external stimulus is that which is occurs outside the organism. When it

As seen in the image below, the stimulus in this scenario is the pin. When one jabs their hand with a
sharp pin, the stimulus is sensed by receptor cells that are aligned along one s skin. In response to the
stimulus, the receptor cells direct an electrical message along a sensory neuron which is transmitted to
the central nervous system (CNS) within seconds. As the impulse reaches the CNS, the information is
relayed through the interneuron in the CNS which transmits the impulse to the motor neuron. The
motor neuron then takes this information and sends it to the effector, which in this case would be a
muscle. This flow of electrical transmission ultimately elicits a response to the stimulus. As the
electrical impulse reaches the muscles in your arm, you pull your arm away from the pin and this
movement away from the pin is what is called the response to the stimulus or in other words, a reflex

It s shaping up to be a trying year for the NCAA as two former athletes have come forward in the past

Essay on Raphael Sanzio s Life and Accomplishments
Raffaello Sanzio was an amazing artist from the late 1400 s to the early 1500 s, who created many
amazing paintings that helped change the style of medieval art to Renaissance art. Without him, the
style of art now would most likely be more primitive and not as advanced as it should be. This is
because he made many advances including more realistic painting. His most important paintings
include The School Of Athens , the Sistine Madonna , and the Marriage of the Virgin . Not only are
those some of his most famous paintings, they also show the realisticness that changed the world.

Raphael made many very detailed paintings. My choices for his most contributing paintings are The
School of Athens, The Sistine Madonna, and The Marriage of The Virgin. They were just a few of the
many amazing paintings that Raphael has painted. The School of Athens was possibly Raphael s most
popular painting. It shows representations of many mathematicians, philosophers, and scientists of the

The Land Of The Long White Cloud Essay
Aotearoa, The land of the long white cloud , is known today by many people as New Zealand, the
third most beautiful country in the world. If one is planning on moving there or visiting, it definitely a
country that will not disappoint. New Zealand is known for many things, especially their outstanding
food and their successful economic situation. During 800 C.E. a group of people from Polynesia,
made their way over to New Zealand. In the 17th century the same group of Polynesians evolved as
the Maori, a spiritual group. The Maori are responsible for New Zealand s original name Aotearoa,
The land of the long white cloud . However, that name was changed when a Dutch explorer landed on
their land, he changed the name to New Zealand, after a Dutch province. When the Europeans came to
New Zealand, the Maori tribe was pushed out of their homes, farms and businesses. It was not until
1840 that Britain signed the Treaty of Waitangi, which protected the Maori tribe for fear of the
Europeans. New Zealand was a colony governed by the British until 1907. Now the queen of the
United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth, only has a small amount of control over New Zealand. The Maori
culture still exists in New Zealand today. Visitors who go to New Zealand can experience their food,
daily rituals, and song and dance if they would like to learn more about their culture. The New
Zealand rugby team before every game performs the traditional Maori war dance, Kapa Haka, to scare

Analysis Of Anton Chekhov s The Lottery Ticket
I Stand Here Ironing vs. The Lottery Ticket In Anton Chekhov s The Lottery Ticket , we are presented
with a couple who, half believing they have won the lottery, give themselves over to daydreaming
what the future may hold with their winnings. The point of view is that of the husband though it is
clear, throughout, that his thoughts find their echo in his wife s. At first his thoughts are pleasant but
then, as he takes into account the differences, (some of them supposed), between himself and his wife,
knowing the winnings would be his wife s and not his own, he sees trouble ahead, and becomes
resentful of her. Only then does he check the final number to find that they have not won after all, at
which point the reality of their relatively impoverished situation takes hold and life, once again,
appears gloomy and mundane. In Tillie Olsen s I Stand Here Ironing , a mother meditates upon the
history of her now troubled teenage daughter, a daughter she feels she can do little to help. Her
daughter s temperament clearly arises from a troubled childhood. Abandoned by her father, with
competition from other siblings, raised in an impoverished environment, there is little wonder as we
read Olsen s description that the daughter should have turned into a troubled young woman. Her
mother in her meditations, however, has clearly felt hopeless throughout. She feels she can do nothing
for her daughter now as she has been able to do little for her in the past. She ends her

Abstract
This research paper will try to highlight the loopholes in the legislative provisions for women in the
Indian constitution. Legislations for women have been there since the British rule. Independent India
is not an exception. But some Indian customs and traditions set restrictions towards women ignoring
them to be an individual. Social construct is such that women do not come out to speak about their
plight in the public. Since independence, Indian women has got the right to vote and many rights
enshrined in the constitution, but the violence against women in the private domain remained unseen
in the legal provisions of the country. Many movements took place to make the violence against
women in the private domain to get legal sanction. Anyways, women get much legislation under the
Indian constitution for their protection yet none of these legislations have clearly considered domestic
violence as a crime till 2005. The failure of the existing provisions to address the domestic violence as
a crime has led to the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act in
2005. This study is an attempt to analyse the awareness level about the act. This study will deal

biology, the nature of deviance, self identification, and power roles. Through this paper, I will explore,
through the use of sociological concepts, what it takes to make the best comedian and how a comedian
can access the widest audience. Based on the book, Performing Marginality, the comic is the

An audience will go to a comedy club and get to laugh in the face of theses difficult topics which in
turn releases repressed anxiety.
Humor plays with self identification. For a person to laugh a person has to either identify or dis
identify with the teller or the target. People laugh because they have found themselves in a similar
situation or because the teller or target is so obviously unlike us. Dis identification also requires
identification because it requires the audience member to know consciously that there is no way they
are the butt of the joke.
Humor has the ability to humanize by humiliating. It targets by humiliating the butt by lampooning
flaws whether they are physical characteristics or psychological foibles. When an individual is
attacked the target is weakened, power relations are subverted, the marginal can temporarily subvert
their social condition. Humor has a democratizing function. Humor creates an in group and an out
group distinction with group solidarity. Humor has the power to forms a bond and draws a line
simultaneously. Laughter is a compromise that renders its audience less threatening through laughter,

The Association Between Worker Prosperity And...
Introduction In today s developing world, a great association between the representative and the
association is essential. For the association s profitability in each field, representatives ought to be
prosperity. The associations opposition for giving best in business is high. Thus, to pick up the upper
hand viability of the firm is imperative. This can just be achieved when there is a decent connection
between the workers and association. In this exposition, I will depict about the association between
worker prosperity and authoritative viability. The five components which are affecting on worker
prosperity and giving illustration for every element. Likewise disclose how to execute those variables
on representatives to take compelling work from them. Worker prosperity is characterized as that bit
of a representative s general wellbeing that they see to be determined basically by work and can be
influenced by workplace intercessions in the organisation. (John P. Meyer, 2010)The employee
satisfactions depends upon the happiness and working environment of an employee. The fundamental
point is that the representative prosperity absolutely relates with emotions, perspectives and
impression of the worker about their work and their firm. On the off chance that the worker is content
with their occupation and their executive means they get the correct admiration about their position
than just the representative can give their best to the organisation (Allisey, 2011). This

Anne Bradstreet s Pre-Civil War Poetry
When reading Pre Civil War works, readers may have a preconception that the works may be difficult
to decipher and view them as archaic; however this is clearly not the case. The works are written in
modern English, and therefore, readers can still understand the overall, general concept even if they
cannot decipher each and every word. When reading the Salinas and Cherokee creation stories,
Columbus s Letter, and the works of Samuel de Champlain, the works can be read with ease. The
overall concept/ message may be difficult to understand at times, but to read each of the works can be
done effortlessly. Although the majority of the works assigned this week are easy to understand and
read, Anne Bradstreet s poetry may be considered a tad more difficult to comprehend, because her
poetry is written in a quatrain and the language gives off a flowerily ... Show more content on

To recap, Champlain is retelling the story of when he took an expedition through Canada and
Newfoundland. Throughout his journey, he explores the Canadian wilderness, lakes, and rivers, and he
collects data to help create his maps. Champlain uses imagery to describe the landscape and its
inhabitants when he writes, In it are many beautiful low islands covered with very fine woods and
meadows with much wild fowl and animals to hunt, such as stags, fallow deer, fawns, roebucks, bears,
and other kinds of animals which come from the mainland to these islands (first paragraph second
sentence). Champlain uses this imagery and detail to help create his maps of Canada, which are later
published in his book Voyage and Les Voyages de la Nouvelle France occidentale, dicte Canada and

Catherine Howard Research Paper
At this point Henry started to look back to Catholicism after the horrendously failed marriage of Anne
by Cromwell, and so the Catholic supporters at court urged marriage to the young Catholic Catherine
Howard. Catherine was very young and very bouncy , which the king adored, but she was extremely
inept and even more frivolous than the now aging king. The king preferred to admire her rather than
sleep with her, and so Catherine sought companionship with the King s favorite, Thomas Culpeper.
Once the affair was found out they were, shockingly, both executed and Henry once again turned his
head back towards the Protestant reformation. Henry s sixth and final marriage was again to a
Protestant named Catherine Parr. Catherine was a peacemaker ... Show more content on

The nation was revitalized, the finances were rectified, and the religious tensions had been quelled.
England grew from being a relatively poor country to one that would dominate the world stage. The
path to this point was filled with an abundance of intrigue, backstabbing, mischief, adultery, civil
strife, corruption, religious reformations, in no small order due to the decisions of this incredible
family, but without it England may have never been able to come into its stride. Henry VIII, though
famous for his supposed ineptitude and foul demeanor, paved the way for his children to make great
and incredible changes. The formation of Anglicanism would forever change European politics and
was an incredibly important stepping stone in the success of the protestant reformation. Though Mary
was a devout Catholic even she furthered the protestant cause by creating martyrs and further
alienating the English people from the Catholic faith. Then came Elizabeth, who became what all
others hope to be, and chose to end her family s legacy with her. The Tudors have always been in
control of their own destinies, even to their bitter end. At least it was ended on a high note. Their
choices and actions created a nation of supreme proportions and left the world shaken, and left us with
some incredible stories to

Comparing Enuma Elish And Genesis
Enuma Elish and Genesis have the strongest connection in their first lines In the beginning vs. When
on high, because both Marduk and God essentially speak things into existence however in different
ways. The Enuma Elish starts with Apsu who represents fresh water and Tiamat who represents salt
water, the father and mother of the gods respectively. Apsu wants to kill his children due to the noise
they bring. While Tiamat attempts to protect them, their son Ea, chief of the gods, kills Apsu in his
sleep. Tiamat seeks revenge and Marduk, the son of Ea is chosen to fight against Tiamat and Kingu.
Marduk fights Tiamat and kills her. Then Marduk cuts the body of Tiamat in half, one half is used to
create the heavens, and the other half is the earth. He then creates the stars and assigns the gods to
regulate the cosmos. The gods soon complain of fatigue therefore Marduk uses the slain blood of
Kingu to create humans to do the work the gods don t want to do. ... Show more content on

This is very different from Genesis as God created the world out of nothing. In Enuma Elish, the
struggle between good and evil is a main theme in the story. However the Genesis story is more
peaceful. The Genesis story emphasizes the idea of goodness. Every time that He creates something
new, God admires how good it was . When His work is completely finished at the end of the third day,
God looked at everything he made, and he found it very good . In contrast to the Enuma Elish,
everything that he creates comes from something

Evil Vs Original Sin
In this dark world, it is not a secret that we all need good news. We need this good news because there
is also some very bad news. When God created the world, He created humans with the free will to
choose God or to not. They lived in perfect communion with God, the highest good and creator. So the
bad news is that even though these first humans were in paradise with God, they chose against Him.
They sinned this first sin, called original sin. Because of original sin, sin entered the world and has
been here ever since. It is the cause of all evil, but it is much more than that. It causes our separation
from God in this life and our damnation in the next. We are fully deserving of eternal punishment in
hell for our sins and there is now an irrevocable rift between us and God. Therefore, we need a savior.

No matter what religion you study, you will find nothing as wonderful and monumental as this. God
became Jesus of Nazareth. He was fully God and fully man. Jesus came to be our savior not because
He had to, but because, in love, He willed it. He came to save us from hell and destroy the rift between
God and man by becoming the God man. In His sinlessness, He came to be a perfect model for us by
showing us how to live. Jesus made manifest to us the love of the Father and even offered us a
participation in his very own divine life, giving us the opportunity to be with and like God for eternity.
This alone is good news, however, there is much more to it than

  • 2. Similarities Between Clowning Around And All The Different... We have our own problems today, but nothing compared to the alternate realities that the authors here have created. Although these are great stories, only one of the finalists can be better. The stories Clowning Around and All the Different Kinds of Rats are the same in the sense that they have similar messages. These two pieces of literature have their respective similarities and differences, but the big topic here is a problem. Firstly, the similarities between the two pieces. The message of unity or lack thereof is portrayed in both pieces. Passages like The people then started to divide themselves or What set them apart was mostly age, which they were able to overcome show how important unity can be, or how weak a lack of cooperation is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story Clowning Around is told in a broad, third person viewpoint. The story takes place in a prolonged amount of time in 745 words, but there are quick transitions and quick elevation of tension, but there is a sense of graduality that works out in the authors favor. The story jumps from the sun rising to the as the people wake up multiple times. All the Different Kinds of Rats, however, has a specific third person perspective and a small time frame. Only one day in 737 words, but the detail from the newspapers and gum to a diminutive mattress this story isn t entirely pure story or action, but provides more background and context. Lastly, the actual situations of the two stories are completely different, but I think that the way that Clowning Around represents reality is quite brilliant, and the social commentary of what can happen is so genius that you need to read between the lines to notice it. All the Different Kinds of Rats, on the other hand, is a story about two poor brothers struggling through everyday life, and while this does convey a deeper message, it doesn t feel like the author made any comment on a relevant ... (40) Plate tectonics theory is the scientific theory that describes the large scale motion of the Earth s lithosphere, which is broken up into tectonic plates. Volcanic landforms are undoubtedly very important in aiding our understanding of plate tectonic theory. However, there is other evidence that must be considered as well. Different types of volcanoes are created at plate margins due to the viscosity of the lava. The two main types of volcanoes are composite volcanoes and shield volcanoes. Composite volcanoes are generally formed at destructive plate boundaries as high viscous lava is produced as less dense oceanic crust is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is the south east coast of North America and the south west coast of Africa. This aids our understanding of plate tectonic theory on a large scale over millions of years. However, although there is a lot of evidence from volcanic landforms that can be used to explain plate tectonics theory, there is other important evidence that cannot be ignored. Fossil evidence is very important for our understanding of plate tectonics theory. Similar animal fossils have been found on the South American and African continents. These fossils suggest that the continents were once joined together. Fossils of an extinct reptile, named a Mesosaurus, have been found in southern Africa and South America. Scientists believe that the only explanation for this fossil being found on these two continents is that they were once joined and have become separated due to plate movements. Plant fossils, such as a fossil of the Glossopteris tree have been found in several countries across the Southern Hemisphere such as India, Australia and even Antarctica. The discovery of these fossils prompted scientists to conclude that these countries must once have been joined in one large land mass. The discovery of such fossils as this in Antarctica gives additional weight to this theory as vegetation cannot survive the harsh Antarctic environment suggesting that if vegetation has been able to grow previously, the positioning of the continent must have been ... • 6. How to Improve the Australian Diet The Australian government is always looking for ways to improve the Australian diet. Ways that this has been done is through health campaigns. Two campaigns that the government has used and could work really effectively is Shape up Australia and Measure Up. Both these campaigns are aimed at Men and Women. The Shape up Australia campaign effectiveness cannot be judged as the campaign has not finished but could have a rough guess on how the campaign is going. The measure up campaign was about allowing people to understand why having excess weight around your waist can be unhealthy for you. The campaign was proposed to run from 2006 to 2010 but then was extended to July 2013. As the Measure up campaign was more heard about it was deemed to be the more effective campaign. The Measure up campaign was about allowing people to understand why carrying unhealthy amount of weight around your hips can be dangerous. When people carry unhealthy amounts of weight around the waist, they might not realise that it also increase the risks of lifestyle related chronic diseases such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes and arthritis (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2013). Throughout the campaign it has been proven that the campaign reached the target audience and got the aim of the campaign and how to stop this. The campaign reached the vast majority of the Australian population, and had a very high level of campaign recognition with 91% of the people recognized the campaign. The ... The stages I am going to follow the CIPS stages of procurement and supply management. (Cips.org, 2017) (Cips.org, 2017) Stage 1 The first stage of the process is to understand and define the buyer s needs. This is where the procurement department need to recognize that a product is needed in order to purchase it. This needs to be done with a high level specification which can be achieved by using a variety of stakeholders. This stage is where all the requirements for the product need be identified. Stage 2 The second stage is market/commodity this needs to be taken place after the buyer has got the buyer needs to a high specification to ensure that at this stage the right product is chosen. At this stage the procurement department need to research all options available within the market. By getting an estimate of what is on the current market, it enables the buyer to pick out potential suppliers also familiarising the buyer with the competition in the market. This is also the stage where the procurement department would be able to look into conducting an analysis on how they are going to achieve the product i.e. make or purchase it/ utilize the service. By conducting market research it gives stakeholders a clear picture of the market. Stage 3 The third stage is developing the plan. Once the specification has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, these parameters include the pressure ratio, TminTmax ratio, regenerator effectiveness, and compressor and turbine efficiencies, assuming the working fluid to be air at 100kPa and 300K at the compressor inlet. Model calculations are presented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to their low overall thermal efficiencies, gas turbines initially had limited uses. As time has passed, many renovations have been implemented to the gas turbine cycle to make it more efficient. Some modifications include: increasing the turbine inlet temperatures, increasing the efficiencies of turbo machinery components, and adding modifications to the basic cycle. In contrast to the ideal cycle, the actual cycle undergoes unavoidable pressure drops during the heat addition and heat rejection processes. In addition, the actual work input to the compressor is always more than the output and the actual work output of the turbine is less than the work input due to irreversibility. These relationships are displayed in the figures below: Four other common modifications to the simple ideal and actual Brayton cycles include: 1) Regeneration 2) Reheat 3) Intercooling 4) Regeneration with Reheat and Intercooling The only methods amongst these choices that improve the overall thermal efficiency of the ideal Brayton cycle are those that utilize regeneration. However, each of these four improvements also increase the initial cost of building the equipment as well as the maintenance cost for the cycle. Thus,

  • 12. Lolita Essay De victimizing Lolita: Removing Emotion from the Classroom Abstract: This paper focuses on Vladimir Nabokov s novel Lolita. Specifically the argument discusses the need for reform within the classroom setting regarding student reaction and interpretation to the text. Class discussion involving Lolita tends to fall under a blanket of socially constructed presumptions that lend the discussion toward a shallow and judgmental reading of the text, and this tendency limits the discussion. This paper argues that, for a teacher attempting to teach this novel, it is important to limit the amount of emotionally reactionary responses and guide the class towards a more allegorical or symbolic representation of the text. However, when I found myself again discussing Lolita with this same narrow approach in my graduate class, I began to wonder if the majority of readers only focused on Humbert Humbert s transgressions. Had the rest of the world missed the point? Could no one recognize the genius behind the monster? Is it possible for the average reader to grasp the ironic intentions of the author, or is Lolita forever overshadowed by the reader s need to judge and dismiss? Too often Lolita is read from only one perspective, the perspective of monstrosity. Nabokov the pornographer threatened to expose and corrupt others, particularly children, through the publication of a novel about unnatural desire (Whiting 835). The tendency is for the average reader to become entangled in a moral debate, to take opposition to the seemingly criminal and amoral acts of the narrator, to condemn him for his blatant and grotesque sin. This surface analysis of the text was prevalent at the time of publication, delaying the release of the novel in the United States by three years. Most reviews of the novel [Lolita] dealt with the narrow issue of its alleged obscenity. The novel was published three years earlier in France because Nabokov could not find an American publisher ready to risk publishing it (Tamir Ghez 65). Critical theory since this time has uncovered multiple layers of interpretation that offer much more meaningful analysis of the novel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social behaviors, networking behaviors and information sharing are providing organizations with volumes of data and there is a need to be able to understand, manage and define all of the information. This trend of voluminous data is known as, big data. According to the International Journal of Computer and Electronics Research, in 2014, there is no extensive reference architecture currently available for big data (Grover, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, information asymmetry is an issue for consumers and supply chains when interoperable data does not align. This exists because one party (either the buyer or producer) has less than perfect information than the other. According to an article by Information and Technology Management, a great deal of information asymmetry exists in the coffee supply chain. This article describes the data incompatibility between small and medium coffee farmers, roasters, and traders. Producers (coffee farmers) are usually a cooperative of many small farmers and being able to gather documentation to identify the source and quality of the coffee is difficult (Sayogo, Zhang, Luna Reyes, Jarman, Tayi, Lines Andersen, Pardo, Andersen, 2015). Many farmers believe the data collection is not valuable and waste of their time and effort for many reasons. Including limited resources such as staff and technology, and information bias (competition based on too much information about the supply). Furthermore, the entire process is overly too difficult to perform in a uniformed way. Most important, this results in the farmers incurring additional costs to ensure data collection that they may not see a profit for later (Sayogo, Zhang, Luna Reyes, Jarman, Tayi, Lines Andersen, Pardo, Andersen, 2015). The poem is about Bradstreet fleeing her house after she wakes up and discovers that her house has been engulfed in flames. She begins to mourn the loss of her personal items but quickly scolds herself because she believes God has created a home for her in heaven. As Bradstreet takes her mind off losing her earthly possessions, she realizes that she must dissolve her ties to the real world and instead focus on keeping a strong relationship with God. Throughout the poem Upon the Burning of our House, July 10th, 1666, Anne Bradstreet uses rhetorical devices to express that one must overcome their internal struggle with cherishing things on Earth and instead focus on dedicating themselves to serving God who will provide things far more valuable than anything in real life. Anne Bradstreet uses diction to explain how her focus on God has created a life far more beneficial than the one on Earth. For example, Bradstreet expresses this when she bids her house farewell as it is burned to the ground. In silence ever shalt thou lie; Adieu, Adieu, all s vanity (Bradstreet 35 36). How do we uphold the freedom of adults to pursue individual happiness in their private relationships and at the same time respond to the needs of children for stability, security, and permanence in their family lives? What do we do when the interests of adults and children conflict? These are the difficult issues at stake in the debate over family structure. • 20. The Dawn Of Retinal Prosthetic Devices The Dawn of Retinal Prosthetic Devices The war against human blindness has been ongoing affair since the beginning of time. Because the origin of blindness varies from case to case, there is no single remedy and limited solutions are available to the visually impaired. However, recent technological breakthroughs have allowed scientists and doctors to test out possible solutions to a particular niche in the blindness spectrum: degenerative retinal diseases. Degenerative retinal diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) attack the retina exclusively. Because of that exclusivity, the other structures in the eye are typically not compromised. Therefore, the use of a retinal implant or prosthetic device to restore functional vision is possible. While it is important to note that retinal implants are still a pioneering technology, clinical trials such as the Argus II clinical trial, and eye health care professionals alike are reporting promising results. As such, it seems likely that retinal prosthetic devices will be a game changer in the future treatment of degenerative retinal diseases since the devices can restore a form of vision to an otherwise blind patient. What Is Reflex Action In Response To External Stimuli Reflex actions as a response to external stimuli A reflex action is defined as an involuntarily, nearly instantaneous, movement in response to a stimulus (Boundless, 2016). A reflex action is a response that does not need any thought input. For example, when a person accidentally touches a hot object, the automatic response that results is that they move their hand away without even thinking. With that being said, the path that is taken by the nerve impulse in a reflex action is called a reflex arc (Boundless, 2016). The main components that make up the reflex arc , as depicted in the image below, consist of the receptor, afferent or sensory neuron, integration centre, and the efferent or motor neuron. A reflex action can be initiated by various stimuli such as internal or external stimuli. When one jabs their hand with a sharp pin, the stimulus is sensed by receptor cells that are aligned along one s skin. In response to the stimulus, the receptor cells direct an electrical message along a sensory neuron which is transmitted to the central nervous system (CNS) within seconds. As the impulse reaches the CNS, the information is relayed through the interneuron in the CNS which transmits the impulse to the motor neuron. The motor neuron then takes this information and sends it to the effector, which in this case would be a muscle. This flow of electrical transmission ultimately elicits a response to the stimulus. As the electrical impulse reaches the muscles in your arm, you pull your arm away from the pin and this movement away from the pin is what is called the response to the stimulus or in other words, a reflex action (Eduvee.com, ... Analysis Of Anton Chekhov s The Lottery Ticket I Stand Here Ironing vs. The Lottery Ticket In Anton Chekhov s The Lottery Ticket , we are presented with a couple who, half believing they have won the lottery, give themselves over to daydreaming what the future may hold with their winnings. The point of view is that of the husband though it is clear, throughout, that his thoughts find their echo in his wife s. At first his thoughts are pleasant but then, as he takes into account the differences, (some of them supposed), between himself and his wife, knowing the winnings would be his wife s and not his own, he sees trouble ahead, and becomes resentful of her. Her daughter s temperament clearly arises from a troubled childhood. Catherine Howard Research Paper At this point Henry started to look back to Catholicism after the horrendously failed marriage of Anne by Cromwell, and so the Catholic supporters at court urged marriage to the young Catholic Catherine Howard. Catherine was very young and very bouncy , which the king adored, but she was extremely inept and even more frivolous than the now aging king. The king preferred to admire her rather than sleep with her, and so Catherine sought companionship with the King s favorite, Thomas Culpeper. Once the affair was found out they were, shockingly, both executed and Henry once again turned his head back towards the Protestant reformation. Tiamat seeks revenge and Marduk, the son of Ea is chosen to fight against Tiamat and Kingu. Marduk fights Tiamat and kills her. Then Marduk cuts the body of Tiamat in half, one half is used to create the heavens, and the other half is the earth. He then creates the stars and assigns the gods to regulate the cosmos. • 47. Evil Vs Original Sin In this dark world, it is not a secret that we all need good news. We need this good news because there is also some very bad news. When God created the world, He created humans with the free will to choose God or to not. They lived in perfect communion with God, the highest good and creator. So the bad news is that even though these first humans were in paradise with God, they chose against Him. They sinned this first sin, called original sin. Because of original sin, sin entered the world and has been here ever since. It is the cause of all evil, but it is much more than that. It causes our separation from God in this life and our damnation in the next. We are fully deserving of eternal punishment in hell for our sins and there is now an irrevocable rift between us and God. Therefore, we need a savior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No matter what religion you study, you will find nothing as wonderful and monumental as this. God became Jesus of Nazareth. He was fully God and fully man. Jesus made manifest to us the love of the Father and even offered us a participation in his very own divine life, giving us the opportunity to be with and like God for eternity. This alone is good news, however, there is much more to it than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
