Statement Of Purpose For Electronic Engineering
With this impression I often tried to find, What is the difference between a successful person and an
ordinary person. And since then, I have been in a constant efforts to bridge the gap that separates the
extraordinary from the ordinary.
My inclination towards automobiles , machineries and the latest technology exposed me to the
wonders and possibilities of being an Engineer. I excelled academically at school. I was a topper; I
was in the top 10 students throughout in high school. I secured 88.67% in school. I secured good
marks in science subject, as that was my favourite subject and hence took admission for Diploma in
Electronics Telecommunication for further studies. I secured top grades in my diploma studies due to

Analysis Of Hedda Gabler By Henrik Ibsen
Ambiguity is a continuous battle within everyone s mind. People are constantly pondering about one s
trustworthiness. Human beings are always questioning one another s intentions and if there exists an
ulterior motive in one s mind. Trust is not easily earned from one another. This kind of motif is shown
in many works of literature. For example, Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen shows the ways of character
moral ambiguity and its way in deceiving others; this is shown through the character Judge Brack.
Judge Brack is portrayed to be a good friend of George Tesman and Hedda Gabler Tesman, a
psychological trickster and manipulator who is ultimately revealed to be a morally ambiguous
character.
Judge Brack is introduced into Hedda Gabler as a man of authority, which allows him to able to aid
George Tesman and act as his financial planner. As a great help to Tesman and Hedda, the couple can t
thank you [Judge Brack] sufficiently in expressing their gratitude and the great help that Brack is,
being a man of power (Ibsen 20). By lending a hand to George and Hedda, this exploits the friendship
between the three characters. If Judge Brack was not a friend to the couple, then he would not assist
them in their accumulating debt. It is shown that Judge Brack does help George regarding his financial
needs even when they are involved with Eilert Lƶvborg, the professor. Although Hedda does
acknowledge Brack s effort in improving her and her husband s financial situation by

The National Association For Music Education
Break Point 4.1
The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the
National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music
literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating,
performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical
performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the United
States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are also
provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques through the
teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout their own
individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are designed to
measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts Standards. As far as
arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to promote music in schools
across America. I believe that having these national requirements is extremely beneficial in that
students across America will be learning similar concepts in the same efficient manner, giving each
individual student an opportunity to thrive as well as any other fellow American student. I do think,
though, that there should be ways for these codes can be more enforced, as I had never really heard of

Goya
Any art medium can be utilized to tell a story or evoke emotion in a viewer. Artistry is unique in that it
is purely visual and can be left to interpretation if the artist chooses to stay ambiguous in the message
they are trying to convey. As an artist, I am always trying to analyze the meanings behind famous
works of art, whether those meanings happen to be incidental or purposeful. So, when contemporary
artist, Enrique Chagoya expressed his adoration for the social commentary expressed in Francisco
Goya s Los Caprichos sketches, I was intrigued. Francisco JosƩ de Goya y Lucientes is regarded as
one of the most important Spanish artists from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His
work spanned the time of four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should come as no surprise that Chagoya s style was heavily influenced by the late eighteenth
century artist. In his Met featurette, Chagoya mentions that he has a background in political economy
that has inspired him to add social commentary to his art. This inspiration original stemmed from his
love for Francisco Goya s art pieces, especially his series of sketches titled, Los Caprichos. He
mentions how Goya s art is like a window to the world of the late 1700 s (Chagoya, The Artist Project
). What is so magical about these sketches though is that the sketches are not representative of a
specific time or place which allows the messages conveyed to still ring true. The figures in his
sketches are metaphorical and represent themes such as greed, vanity, and fear. Chagoya believes that
we are meant to see a piece of ourselves reflected in these figures but the dark and humorous style of
the sketches keep the message from damning us. His overall message in this series seems to be that
we, as humans, shouldn t aim to appear good but we should instead make the world a better
experience for

Social Media And Social Mess Essay
Social Media or Social Mess According to Pew Research, 95% of teens are Internet users with an
astonishing 85% using Social Media. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable
users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Social media is a huge
platform for cultural revolutions and controversies. There is a large amount of potential issues with
this revolution including the possibility of cyberbullying as well as the depression that can be
developed by only seeing the best part of everyone s daily life. This creates a false image that
everyone has a perfect life that users believe is impossible to attain. They, in turn, view their life as
dull or not as exciting as others simply because they cannot go on their summer break to swim with
dolphins or skydive, because they are not committing to a college on a full ride for Football, because
they don t have that seemingly perfect relationship with their parents or siblings. On the other side of
the spectrum, Social Media can be used for many great causes such as activism, it can be used to stay
in touch with old friends, and it can be used to encourage others or bring to light issues that no one
would have heard about it they were not Facebook friends with Joe Schmo. Social Media is a trade off
that western culture, and increasingly the world, must learn to deal with or restrict. Social Media is
dangerous to dictators, it is helpful to helping hands, and it is hurtful to those

How To Play A Clarinet
Learning a musical instrument can be a worthwhile and fulfilling experience. It has a host benefits,
including increasing various academic skills, improving confidence, aiding with stress relief,
sharpening concentration, added social benefits, and it can also change lives. A great instrument to
learn is the Bā™ clarinet. It is easy to learn, yet difficult to master. One of the most basic skills to be able
to play the clarinet includes assembling it.
The first thing to do when assembling a clarinet is to grease the corks. This is done with cork grease
(commonly sold in a tube or pot) and is done so that the different pieces of the instrument are able to
slide together with ease. To grease the corks found on the ends of the various joints, ... Show more

This is a short, cylindrical joint with no keys or rings. The barrel is to be connected to the top tenon
joint. The last piece is the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is the small joint with a rectangular hole; it is
located at the top of the instrument. The reed fits onto the mouthpiece, in front of the opening facing
the player. The thick, blunt end of the reed should aim towards the ground, while the thinner, curved
side should be on top. It should not hang over the top of the mouthpiece, nor sit too low. The reed
must be moist prior to playing, and it is held in place by the ligature. The ligature is the circular
attachment with fastening screws, and is made with leather or metal. Fit the ligature over the reed and
mouthpiece, and tighten the fastening screws; it should be snug, neither too tight nor too loose. Now
the clarinet can be tuned. Clarinets are typically tuned to a concert Bā™ and the pitch is adjusted by
pushing in, or pulling out the barrel. If the clarinet is sharp (pitch is too high), pull out the barrel
slightly to lower the pitch. If the clarinet is flat (pitch is too low) push in the barrel; if it is already
pushed in all of the way, make sure all other joints are completely connected with no gaps. Now the
clarinet is ready to

Examples Of Gender Bias In Julius Caesar
In sexism, gender bias has existed throughout history and still exists today. Gender bias is frequently
called sexism or gender discrimination. A study by four researchers, Kelly Jones, Cay Evans, Ronald
Byrd, and Kathleen Campbell, analyzed videotapes of teachers while they taught the students in the
classroom, then they had the teachers watch themselves on the video while pointing out the gender
biased attitudes, languages and behavior; most teachers were surprised to see how they gave their
attention on one gender over the other and the unintentional gender bias happening in the classroom
(A World of Gender Bias, 2015). Researchers recommended methods for the teachers to use when

Sexism puts a barrier on what society views as acceptable for a man and woman to do. It also may be
true that men and women are not necessarily equal physically. Men are scientifically proven are
stronger than women physically in terms of muscles and athletic ability. Men are physically stronger
than women, who have, on the average, less total muscle mass, to the total body mass and men also
have denser, stronger bones, tendons and ligaments (Burton, 2012). Men tend to be larger than women
in size which makes them tend to carry out more muscles and more muscles normally points toward
having more strength than women. But on the other hand, people should approach fairness and not
equality because sexism has negative impacts on the people which causes them to commit suicide. In
Antigone, Antigone was a strong, courageous and an independent person and there was no definite
evidence that Antigone was strong and brave person but based on what the readers gather from the
play Antigone seems psychologically capable of the things that she did more than the other characters.
The leading cause of death of women ages 15 to 19 worldwide is suicide and the most expected reason
is sexism and gender discrimination (Valenti, 2015). In Antigone, Antigone buries her brother because
she believes what she is doing is right so she does it but gets punished because she did what she
believed in which

Chinese Philosophy From The Spring And Autumn And Warring...
Chinese philosophy originates in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States eras. This was during the
period known as Hundred Schools of Thought. Regional rulers of the Spring and Autumn period
enhanced their ability to obtain natural resources, to recruit men for their armies, and to oversee
conquered areas. (pg. 165) Researchers started to help the rulers and because of that, the rulers began
perceiving the researchers comprehension of punishment, ritual, astronomy, medicine, and divination.
There were a few distinct methods of insight that emerged in Ancient China amid this time period. Be
that as it may, there were three noteworthy methods of insight that were absolutely critical: legalism,
taoism and confucianism. Confucius was a researcher who served in government positions. He
realized that the legislature was doing as well as could be expected, on the other hand, he likewise
realized that war was among them. Consequently, Confucius was resolved to locate an illuminated
ruler. He had confidence in family and that family was the establishment of a moral society. Confucius
set up any of the real rules for Chinese thought and activity: regard for the declarations of researchers,
duty to expansive instruction, and preparing for all who were exceedingly astute and willing to work.
(pg. 164) Due to Confucius being solid willed, he put forward new ethics focusing on ceremonies,
obligation and dedication to family and the ideal of good character. Confucianism was

Eponine had a miserable and in the end it led to a tragic ending for her life.

By this time, Valjean has involved himself with a young girl and become her

A Writing Ecology Is A Dynamic, Interconnected System Of...
A writing ecology is a dynamic, interconnected system of communication, which works together
through interaction and sharing. As the term ecology traditionally refers to the relationships between
organisms in an environment, the ability to metaphorically link this to a concept of writing redefines
the complexity of networked technologies and the influences of technological change. The ability to
participate in a digitally evolving space opens up new possibilities and opportunities when accessing
and expressing knowledge and information. Snowfall (Branch, 2016) is an explicit example of this as
it demonstrates key concepts through optimising its environment. By allowing the audience to actively
engage themselves in the text, Snowfall revolutionised traditional media in its time.
Writing as a digitally networked environment enriches the experience of the reader by allowing them
to interact with new technological forms. The ability to engage in multimodal writing spaces exceeds
traditional alphabetic text by drawing upon the audience s sensory responses. New multimodal media
explores still and moving images, music, colour and sound that entices and interacts with the
responder. Snowfall is an example of this as it discusses the affects an avalanche had on the town of
Tunnel Creek. Its interactive form produces an interesting layout, which gives the reader a more active
and dynamic experience in contrast to traditional and more restrictive written text. By using a

The Pros And Cons Of Video Games
The current world and generation is almost dependent on technology, especially the younger
generation. With new technology brings new forms of entertainment, particularly video games and
movies. Even though we don t think about it, video games and movies are relatively new inventions.
They have changed society and will likely keep changing it for a long time. Though they are usually
associated with a positive connotation, there are people who think differently. Since it s inception,
media has also been associated with manipulating the impressionable minds of children, particularly
violent media. In the past, it s been violent literature. Nowadays, it s been violent video games and
movies. The criticisms of these particular forms of media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Movies are also among the most pirated forms of media which makes it even easier for minors to view
such material. A notable instance of violent media being scapegoated as a reason of violent behavior is
the Columbine High School Massacre of 1999 in which Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, students at
Columbine, gunned down 12 students and a teacher, while also injuring a teacher. The pair were
eventually found to be avid players of Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Duke Nukem, violent video games.
They were also fans of the 1994 movie Natural Born Killers, which is about two mass murders. The
parents of the Columbine victims also sued the publishers of the video games that Klebold and Harris
played, blaming the video games for the shooting. But what the parents and many other people
overlooked is that the two boys were victims of bullying and depression. So it s unfair and unwise to
put the blame solely on video games and movies are reasoning behind the shooting. Violent media
such as movies and video games have a mental effect on young children and minors, but their daily
lives dictate whether or not they make them violent in nature. The reason video games and movies on
their own don t dictate whether or not they make children violent could be found in Albert Bandura s
Social Learning Theory which basically says that people, not just children, learn from the action of
others such as friends, family, and peers. An experiment was performed in 1961, in

Identity Crisis In As I Lay Dying By Ernest Hemingway
Vardaman and Jake had their lives completely changed by an identity crisis that was caused by
personal tragedies. In the novel, As I lay Dying by William Faulkner, a young boy named Vardaman
experiences the death of his sick and fragile mother. Jake, from the novel, The Sun also Rises by
Ernest Hemingway also experiences a loss when his penis was shot off in the war. Jake and Vardaman
do not relatively experience the same events nor react in the same manner, but they both experience
the feeling of identity loss. A person who experiences a loss of identity often has a change in
personality and feels that they do not have a full understanding of who they are. The authors of these
two characters were able to present this idea of identity loss, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Vardaman s messy and confusing thoughts reflect his struggle to fully comprehend what is happening
as his family embarks on a long journey to bury Addie. Jewel s mother is a horse. My mother is a fish.
Darl says that when we come to the water again I might see her and Dewey Dell said, She s in a box;
how could she have got out? (Faulkner 184). Vardaman isn t accustomed to understanding and
forming rational thoughts on his own, and when his mother dies he loses a substantial influencer in the
formation of his identity. Now he gets easily confused on simple things, such as how his mother got
out of the box if she is a fish. What makes this description of Vardaman s confused thoughts so
dynamic is Faulkner s usage of short sentences that are juxtaposed with long sentences. The short
sentences state what he thinks is right, but then the next sentence flows from what Darl said to what
Dewy Dell said, and by the end of that sentence he wonders how any of it pieces together. That mesh
of different ideas into one long sentence parallels with the mess of confusion about everything in
Vardaman s life. Along with complex sentence structure, Faulkner uses complicated diction to express
the character s emotions. You kilt my maw! (Faulkner 48). The slang is used by Faulkner to create the
effect that Vardaman s confused thoughts and emotions are directly going from him to the reader. One
of Faulkner s stylistic purposes of this is to make the reader intensely aware of the feelings and needs
of each family member ( Notable American Novelists 451). He does this by making it seem as though
the character wrote the words instead of Faulkner himself, which in a sense draws a deeper
understanding of the character s emotions for the reader. Faulkner s word choice and sentence
structure emphasizes the tone of Vardaman s experiences through his identity

Artificial Intelligence Dangers
What are the dangers and possible benefits of Artificial Intelligence? Throughout the course of history,
technological advances have proven to not only influence, but significantly impact one s quality of
life. Within society, there are those who strongly believe that these advancements have saved lives and
benefitted future generations, while others argue against it, firmly articulating that the progression of
technology will prove to work against the overall betterment of humanity. Despite this, one cannot
deny society s obsession and thirst for the next big technological advancement. Human s, never
content with what they have, are extremely vulnerable and susceptible to consumeristic tendencies.
Regardless of what is actually attainable, we always focus on the technology of the future. Perhaps the
definition of futuristic advancement can be best understood as Artificial Intelligence? Surprisingly the
days of Artificial Intelligence are approaching; however, with this revelation come challenging
questions. What can be gained through Artificial Intelligence how will humanity be impacted by this
technology? Are there potential dangers associated with it? Will Artificial Intelligence be a universal
advancement? Only through further exploration and analysis of these questions will one be able to

A Report Of The Bezymianny Volcano During The Kamchatka...
Abstract
Zoning in plagioclase feldspar is often an indicator of magmatic differentiation. This is mainly due to
the process of fractional crystallization changing the chemistry of magmatic bodies, and has been
documented in many localities. A case study will examine a 2010 report of the Bezymianny Volcano
in the Kamchatka peninsula of Russia, where researchers studied oscillatory zoning in the plagioclase.
An interpretation of the results has shown frequent replenishments to the magma chamber, and many
magmatic differentiation processes including magma mixing, addition of volatiles, and reheating and
convection the melt body (Shcherbakov et al., 2010).
Introduction
Zoning occurs in plagioclase feldspars as they crystallize out of a melt, as composition of the magma
changes. These changes occur due to the formation of minerals consuming certain elements present in
the magma (Gill, 2010). Plagioclase is an excellent indicator for this progressive depletion of
elements, as it forms a continuous series of anorthite (calcium rich, CaAl2Si2O8) to albite (sodium
rich, NaAlSi3O8) (Nesse, 2011). Because of the differences in composition, the feldspar chemistry
can be used to interpret the magmatic processes which led to the production of these feldspars. The
zoning pattern reflects the chemical changes, which have occurred to the magma body and can show
magmatic differentiation processes such as magma mixing and changes in temperature, pressure and

Examine the Advantages and Disadvantages for China of...
Question: Examine the advantages and disadvantages for China of harmonization of accounting
standards under the current economic and social system. With the development of economic
globalization and capital markets, accounting standards based on a national system cannot satisfy the
needs of users whose decisions are increasingly international. Therefore harmonization of accounting
standards has become an inevitable choice for many countries. The Chinese government has
introduced four sets of accounting standards and efforts continue to be made to bring its domestic
accounting standards in line with international accounting standards, as a result of which numerous
benefits have been brought about by the harmonization of accounting ... Show more content on

A large amount of material, money and human resources have to be devoted in the process of
institutional change and adaptation. For example, according to China Accounting Standards
Committee (n.d.), in March 2003, the Committee hired 160 consultants in order to assist its
institutional change. Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if each
one spends at least ļæ„1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the total
amount of training costs would be ļæ„12 million. Though some costs of institutional change and
adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be
calculated. Adapting harmonizing accounting standards is neither an easy nor a rapid procedure. For
instance, during the adaptation period, accountants would make some mistakes or spend a long time
learning those accounting standards, which cannot be measured and would influence performance of
harmonization of accounting standards. Tang (2000) claims that some managers even felt that the cost
of preparation and audit overweighed its advantages in the initial stage of implementation. The second
potential disadvantage of harmonization of accounting standards is chaotic management for
enterprises in China. As China is in a transitional period from a centrally planned economy to a market
economy, economic system has an impact on accounting and accordingly

90 Years Of Development
Children under 5 are the poorest age group in America. 1 of 4 infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are
poor during the greatest years of development. The topic of development in children was brought to
Marian Wright Edelman, and she believed that children in poor environments develop the worst.
However, other progressive factors contribute to the growth of a child. The first 90 days of an infants

International and Intercountry Adoption
The birth of a child represents a milestone in the life of families. For those who are not able to
conceive a child by natural means, adoption often comes as an alternative and rewarding way to build
a family and fulfill individuals desire to experience parenthood. Whether for biological or personal
reasons, many have taken the path to adoption despite the fact that they are able to have their own
biological child. Others have taken this remarkable road based on values or altruism. Whatever the

At times families wish to adopt from the country of the family s own ethnic origin, or they may be
familiar with others who have successfully adopted overseas. The research also suggests that the
major reason families choose to adopt international is the manner in which most international
adoptions are conducted; a process that minimizes the threat that a child could be offered to potential
parents and then withdrawn. International birth parents transfer their parental rights to a third party
adoption agency or orphanage before the adoptive parents get involved in the process. This may not be
the case with domestic adoptions, mainly when a child is expected, but not yet born. Birth parents may
change their minds about adopting out their child during the period before the adoption is finalized
(Fain, n.d., http://ezinearticles.com/?The Pros And Cons Of International Adoption amp;id=533106).
Thus, one can conclude that this can be a terrifying prospect for would be parents to contemplate, and
adoptive parents who wish to reduce this possibility may prefer international adoption or may
otherwise work only to identify candidate children who have already been placed in an orphanage or
foster program. In addition, some adoptive parents find that international restrictions on who may

Rose For Emily Respect
Respecting the elderly is a lesson that most people are taught early on, and there is good reason for it,
but respecting and enabling are not synonymous, especially when heinous crimes are committed. This
is exactly what happens in William Faulkner s Southern gothic short story A Rose For Emily or, at
least, that is the tale told on the surface. Underneath the story of an old disturbed woman s death is the
author s commentary on the nature of Southern pride and tendency to hold on to the past. Much like
the in the current day, the respect that old Southern ways demands from the region s inhabitants has
not changed and will likely remain a constant fixture for generations to come. Faulkner gets his
overarching theme of respect for the past across by using the characters of Miss Emily and the town as
a whole as symbols for the past that is respected and the living people that must continue. The
subgenre of Southern Gothic literature is one that explores all kinds of hard and gritty themes that can
often leave the reader chilled; one such theme that are explored in this particular piece of Southern ...

In Defense Of Bottled Water By Thomas J. Lauria
Bottled Water Versus Cost According to The Water Project, Bottles used to package water take over
1,000 years to bio degrade and if incinerated, they produce toxic fumes. It is estimated that over 80%
of all single use water bottles used in the U.S. simply become litter ( Bottled Water is Wasteful ). This
fact is not the only reason I believe that bottled water does not outweigh its costs. Although statistics
show that bottled water is efficient, there are many reasons to believe otherwise. As aforementioned,
there are explanations to believe that bottled water does outweigh its repercussions. Thomas J. Lauria,
author of In Defense of Bottled Water , states, Bottled water provides a healthy choice when tap water
is not accessible ( In Defense of Bottled Water ). In this article, Lauria states that bottled water is a
topic of great interest. He goes on to discuss that in the United States, Adults consume 450 calories a
day from beverages and sixty eight percent of those twenty years old and older are classified as
overweight or obese, bottled water provides a healthy choice when tap water is not accessible,
preferred, or convenient ( In Defense of Bottled Water ). Sure, this is fact and definitely a benefit to
bottled water. Lauria continues to say that if bottled water is not offered then people will be more
likely to choose soda, juices, or options similar to those. He says that banning bottled water will urge
people to consume unhealthy beverages because

1860 Slavery Essay
The matter of slavery is one that has plagued humanity for the horrors it has committed. Despite the
fact that most Americans look down at the south s shameful past of slavery, it is known that history is
written by the victors, and that we must critically judge the north for the treatment of its workers like
historians have judged the south in order to gain a better understanding of the situation.
By 1860 the manufacturing industry was growing fast, there were approximately 140,000 factories
mostly located in the north with about 1.5 million factory workers. Each worker made a median of 2
real dollars in income per week. As can be seen, 2 dollars isn t much to keep an average family size of
5 persons afloat. Due to this all family members needed to work, including children.Furthermore,
Women were happily employed by factory owners because companies could pay them less. Due to

Mark Twain sThe Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Be Banned...
For more than a century Mark Twain s novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been ridiculed
and banned by schools across the United States. Over the years many people have asked Should this
novel be taught in classrooms? Most believe that this novel does more harm than good. This novel
should be taught in schools because it provides a clear picture of what time was like back in the 1800s.
The N word is known to cause many problems but if teachers can teach the message Twain was trying
to say then students would understand that this book was not hating on a particular group of people.
As Americans we can learn from this novel, to never allow such racist claims to any race throughout
our future.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be taught in schools because it is not just a book about
slaves and a boy who has grown up to be a low life. It is more about friendship, back in the 1800s
white people were taught to dehumanize black people. But in the novel, Huck and Jim become very
close. They become good friends throughout their adventures together. Jim cares for Huck because he
knows Huck s father is dead and he does not want Huck to feel alone. Huck and Jim get separated in
the fog while traveling on the Mississippi River. Once they finally find each other, Jim can hardly
believe that it is Huck. He is so glad that nothing bad had happened to him. Goodness gracious, is dat

Huck s well being, he cares about what happens to Huck throughout the novel. In a way Jim is the
father figure Huck never really had. John Wallace who was a harsh critic, who had a lot to say about
Twain s novel. Wallace says that this book makes black people feel lower and less of people. It
contributes to their feelings of low self esteem and to white students disrespect for black people.

the answer would be yes. But what about the killing of an animal for a materialistic reason, such as the

The Risk Of An Ectopic Pregnancy
infections are pain, red vaginal bleeding, diarrhoea, fever and feeling unwell. Pelvic infections are
treated with antibiotics however severe cases are treated with surgery. Having a miscarriage is also a
biological implication because the risk of having a miscarriage with PGD or IVF is the same risk for
someone who conceived their child naturally, however there is a lot more for the PGD mother to lose
compared to the naturally conceived mother, for example PGD costs a lot of money where as natural
conception doesn t. The risk of an ectopic pregnancy is a biological implication because it can lead to
a miscarriage. Ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilised egg stays in the fallopian tube, and in rare
cases can attach to one of the mother s ovaries, another organ in the abdomen, the cornua of the uterus
or the cervix. With ectopic pregnancy emergency treatment is required, and the chances of the baby
surviving are very low. Symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include; light bleeding, nausea and vomiting
with pain, pain in the lower abdomen, sharp cramps, dizziness, and if the fallopian tube ruptures then
the pain and bleeding could possibly be severe enough to cause fainting.
The social implications to PGD include financing the cost of PGD, discrimination against people
carrying specific genetic diseases or disorder which makes them have disabilities, taxpayers and

In the epic Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel, Beowulf exemplifies values that embody the ideals of
the Anglo Saxon culture. Some of these ideals are expressed through actions and words, while others

Beowulf said, I battled and bound five beasts, raided a troll nest and in the night sea, slaughtered

Symbols In Beloved By Tony Morrison
To express ideas through words is a much more difficult task than would appear. Many novelists,
therefore, utilize symbols to portray themes that would be difficult to describe in words. Beloved, by
Tony Morrison, describes the story of a woman, Sethe, who has killed her own daughter. Since the
average reader does not share this experience with Sethe, Morrison uses different symbols to depict
themes that may be otherwise obscure to a reader unfamiliar with the story. In Beloved, Tony
Morrison uses symbols to represent the themes of identity, vulnerability, and encumbrance, which are
common to the characters of the novel.
In the novel, milk represents identity, and its theft the theft, or oppression, of identity. Throughout the

The Modeling Technique That You Were Assigned For Your Own...

1. Describe the modeling technique that you were assigned in your own words.
The modeling technique that I was assigned Extended Backus Naur Form (EBNF). In software
engineering, expanded Backus Naur frame (EBNF) is a group of metasyntax documentations, any of
which can be utilized to express a setting free sentence structure. EBNF is utilized to make a formal
depiction of a formal language which can be a PC programming language. They are augmentations of
the fundamental Backus Naur frame (BNF) metasyntax documentation. EBNF is a code that
communicates the sentence structure of a formal language. An EBNF comprises of terminal images
and non terminal creation rules which are the limitations administering how terminal images can be

accentuation marks, and whitespace characters. BNF is the first, most straightforward, for the most
part utilized as a part of scholarly papers of hypothetical setting, for conveying to people, instead of
being utilized as a part of compiler or parser. EBNF implies Extended BNF. There s not one single

The Natural And Physical Aspects Of The World We Live
Physical Chemical Oceanography I Science is the study of the natural and physical aspects of the
world we live in. Science is the way humans try to understand why the environment acts in the way it
does. Science has set of rules and guidelines that must be followed. The most important step in science
is observation, the point of observation is so that the experiment can be measured and or the
experiment can be repeated with similar or the same results. Hypotheses are then developed to
disprove the observation as many scientists believe hypothesis can never be proven. Opinions are not
facts and are based on subjective influences. Opinions cannot be measured or disproven because it is
personal. Science cannot address all the issues and concerns due to the limit and restrictions it has.
The fact that not everything can be proven shows how science cannot address all the issues. Even
though everyday mankind is creating new technology to help humans better understand nature, there
will always be some elements that are beyond human capabilities. Water is unique in that it is the only
natural substance that is found in all three states liquid, solid (ice) and gas (steam) at the temperatures
normally found on earth . (http://aquarius.umaine.edu/activities/prop_fresh_sea.pdf) In order to

molecule itself has to be examined. The water molecule is made up off a special type of bond

Essay about Maximus and Odysseus
Maximus and Odysseus
While watching the film Gladiator with my girlfriend I realized the striking similarities that heroes
share. However, I always wonder who is more of a hero. The definition or hero is a person noted for
feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. So
let us compare the two heroes as the dictionary defines them. In the end I hope to be able to define
who is a greater hero.
Maximus was a great warrior in the Roman legion under Emperor Marcus Aurelius. His first
courageous feat occurs when he defeats the last of the Barbarians of Germaina. Leading his army
along a 12 year campaign he brought it to an end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although they are opposite ends of the spectrum, they both must go from one extreme to the other to
get to the end of their story.
Starting with Odysseus courageous efforts he first defeats the Trojans at the battle of Troy with the
wooden horse. Much like Maximus his story begins with him winning a great war that has gone on for
years. Odysseus must use his intellect more so than his brute strength, such as when he escapes the
Cyclops. Unlike Maximus Odysseus makes the mistake right off the bat of revealing his name to the
Cyclops when he is leaving, thus he cannot return home yet because he hasn t become a nobody yet.
The reoccurring theme between the two that I see is that the must reach a certain state before the end
of their story can take place. Odysseus has to become a plain man not a war hero, and Maximus must
win the crowd over and they need to know who is so he cannot be slain in the dungeons. In his last
great show of strength Odysseus strings a bow and kills the suitors that were trying to steal his wife
from him while he was gone.
Odysseus finally reaches his home in the end and yes becomes that nobody that we so often mention.
His journey home was filled with trials much like Maximus was. Odysseus suffered the wrath of the
gods, cannibals, giants and even had to wrestle Poseidon. Maximus had to fight in the coliseum
against outrageous odds, battling with live tigers nipping at his heels, and ultimately in the end he

Minority Populations
Throughout Austin s history, minority populations were isolated through political acts such as A City
Plan in 1928, which wanted to make Austin beautiful so that involved removing minorities from the
area surrounding the capital. In addition, schools for minorities were restricted to just the East side to
force minority populations to move there. By the 1990 s, Austin was branded with the title Live Music
Capital of the World. This title gave rise to an economic and social boost to Austin, but by doing so, it
diluted the native culture into a hipster culture. In 1991, Austin was awarded the title Live Music
Capital of the World due to the fact it has the largest number of music venues for population.
According to Baker s article, Austin has 1 music venue for 4,125 people while the mainstream cities
like New York City and Los Angeles has only 1 music venue per 29,600 people and 1 per 16,380
people respectively. Austin s primarily strength as a music capital comes from its college city scene
(due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Titan Music Group s The Austin Music Census Report, 66% of musicians were
Caucasian, 10.4% were Hispanic and 4.4% were African Americans. The total Austin population
consisted of 79.8% Caucasians, 31.9% Hispanics and 7.2% were African American. The census also
shows that the music industry is mostly men. These statistics are interesting because it shows that the
Austin music scene is dominated by white males and that minorities are underrepresented in Austin.
This is demonstrated by the demographics that show the African American community is moving
away from Austin. Blues music is known for being black music and that white people tend not to play
it as well. In the Austin music scene, blacks tend to feel that the scene is inauthentic because whites
are singing music representing black culture and the black musicians are a rarity (Gatchet, Titan Music

Literary Techniques Used in the Memoir of Ishmael Beah, A...
In the memoir of Ishmael Beah, A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Beah states that his life
s journey has been a huge obstacle, but has learned to overcome that struggle by venting while the two
contradictory sides continue their battling. Beah accomplishes his goal of explaining to the reader his
point of view through the use of rhetorical questions, scenic narration, and parallelism. Ishmael Beah s
apparent purpose is to share personal accounts of his life with his fellow country men, in a country
where war affects people to a level beyond the imagination. He is able to apply his purpose using a
grotesque and bitter tone. Beah approaches his audience of ordinary people in this manner in order to
vent his feelings about war by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through Beah s use of questions, the reader is able ponder on the question as if Beah is asking the
questions to him or her. Secondly, Beah describes gruesome, fearful, and horrific times and scenes
with the help of scenic narration. For example, Beah says, I am pushing a rusty wheelbarrow in a town
where the air smells of blood and burnt flesh. The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose last
breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing, their
intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their noses and
ears. This statement gives an excellent and direct impression of the brutality of the rebels.
Conceivably, this could be labeled as a massive genocide in the way Beah retells it. A Long Way Gone
is full of daunting scenes and bitter language. Ishmael Beah states, Setting the body on the ground, I
start to unwrap it, beginning at the feet. All the way up to the neck, there are bullet holes. One bullet
has crushed the Adam s apple and sent the remains of it to the back of the throat. I lift the cloth from
the body s face. I am looking at my own. Beah shows powerful and visible emotion in the way he
describes this person. When he says that he is looking at his own, that makes the reader feel as if Beah
is describing a family member or a very loving friend. Although, the last portion of this quote is
emotional, Beah still describes gruesomeness the Adam s apple being

Lucky The Lovely Bones And The Almost Moon By Alice Sebold
The American author, Alice Sebold, published the three books: Lucky, The Lovely Bones, and The

While entering the building, she realized that she did not have her ID, however, the resident security
assistant allowed her in and questioned what had happened to her. She explained she had been beaten
and raped in the park and to alert the police. Not long after the police arrived at the university, an
ambulance came to take Alice to the hospital for examination. Her clothes were given to the police
officers for evidence, and her body was swabbed for any DNA evidence. One of her good friends,
Mary Alice and Tree, came as soon as they knew to the hospital and began to assist Alice through the
experience (Lucky).
The police took her statement and investigated and told her she was lucky, as a girl had been murdered
and dismembered in the same tunnel. Alice was nervous to tell her mother about the rape because she
suffered from panic attacks and alcohol addiction. Her mother would be at the dorms soon to take
Alice home for summer break though, so she phoned her and explained what had happened. Alice
returned to her hometown to stay for the summer, and her whole world completely changed. Her
parents did not know how to approach her after the rape, and it was very frustrating for Alice. There
were many incidents when Alice would confront her mother and father about what happened in the
tunnel as it helped her by talking about it. With her mother s recommendation, Alice agreed to see Dr.

  • 3. Analysis Of Hedda Gabler By Henrik Ibsen Ambiguity is a continuous battle within everyone s mind. People are constantly pondering about one s trustworthiness. Human beings are always questioning one another s intentions and if there exists an ulterior motive in one s mind. Trust is not easily earned from one another. This kind of motif is shown in many works of literature. For example, Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen shows the ways of character moral ambiguity and its way in deceiving others; this is shown through the character Judge Brack. Judge Brack is portrayed to be a good friend of George Tesman and Hedda Gabler Tesman, a psychological trickster and manipulator who is ultimately revealed to be a morally ambiguous character. Judge Brack is introduced into Hedda Gabler as a man of authority, which allows him to able to aid George Tesman and act as his financial planner. As a great help to Tesman and Hedda, the couple can t thank you [Judge Brack] sufficiently in expressing their gratitude and the great help that Brack is, being a man of power (Ibsen 20). By lending a hand to George and Hedda, this exploits the friendship between the three characters. If Judge Brack was not a friend to the couple, then he would not assist them in their accumulating debt. It is shown that Judge Brack does help George regarding his financial needs even when they are involved with Eilert Lƶvborg, the professor. Although Hedda does acknowledge Brack s effort in improving her and her husband s financial situation by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The National Association For Music Education Break Point 4.1 The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating, performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the United States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are also provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques through the teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout their own individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are designed to measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts Standards. As far as arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to promote music in schools across America. I believe that having these national requirements is extremely beneficial in that students across America will be learning similar concepts in the same efficient manner, giving each individual student an opportunity to thrive as well as any other fellow American student. I do think, though, that there should be ways for these codes can be more enforced, as I had never really heard of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Goya Any art medium can be utilized to tell a story or evoke emotion in a viewer. Artistry is unique in that it is purely visual and can be left to interpretation if the artist chooses to stay ambiguous in the message they are trying to convey. As an artist, I am always trying to analyze the meanings behind famous works of art, whether those meanings happen to be incidental or purposeful. So, when contemporary artist, Enrique Chagoya expressed his adoration for the social commentary expressed in Francisco Goya s Los Caprichos sketches, I was intrigued. Francisco JosĆ© de Goya y Lucientes is regarded as one of the most important Spanish artists from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His work spanned the time of four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It should come as no surprise that Chagoya s style was heavily influenced by the late eighteenth century artist. In his Met featurette, Chagoya mentions that he has a background in political economy that has inspired him to add social commentary to his art. This inspiration original stemmed from his love for Francisco Goya s art pieces, especially his series of sketches titled, Los Caprichos. He mentions how Goya s art is like a window to the world of the late 1700 s (Chagoya, The Artist Project ). What is so magical about these sketches though is that the sketches are not representative of a specific time or place which allows the messages conveyed to still ring true. The figures in his sketches are metaphorical and represent themes such as greed, vanity, and fear. Chagoya believes that we are meant to see a piece of ourselves reflected in these figures but the dark and humorous style of the sketches keep the message from damning us. His overall message in this series seems to be that we, as humans, shouldn t aim to appear good but we should instead make the world a better experience for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Social Media And Social Mess Essay Social Media or Social Mess According to Pew Research, 95% of teens are Internet users with an astonishing 85% using Social Media. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Social media is a huge platform for cultural revolutions and controversies. There is a large amount of potential issues with this revolution including the possibility of cyberbullying as well as the depression that can be developed by only seeing the best part of everyone s daily life. This creates a false image that everyone has a perfect life that users believe is impossible to attain. They, in turn, view their life as dull or not as exciting as others simply because they cannot go on their summer break to swim with dolphins or skydive, because they are not committing to a college on a full ride for Football, because they don t have that seemingly perfect relationship with their parents or siblings. On the other side of the spectrum, Social Media can be used for many great causes such as activism, it can be used to stay in touch with old friends, and it can be used to encourage others or bring to light issues that no one would have heard about it they were not Facebook friends with Joe Schmo. Social Media is a trade off that western culture, and increasingly the world, must learn to deal with or restrict. • 8. How To Play A Clarinet Learning a musical instrument can be a worthwhile and fulfilling experience. It has a host benefits, including increasing various academic skills, improving confidence, aiding with stress relief, sharpening concentration, added social benefits, and it can also change lives. A great instrument to learn is the Bā™ clarinet. It is easy to learn, yet difficult to master. One of the most basic skills to be able to play the clarinet includes assembling it. The first thing to do when assembling a clarinet is to grease the corks. This is done with cork grease (commonly sold in a tube or pot) and is done so that the different pieces of the instrument are able to slide together with ease. To grease the corks found on the ends of the various joints, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a short, cylindrical joint with no keys or rings. The barrel is to be connected to the top tenon joint. The last piece is the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is the small joint with a rectangular hole; it is located at the top of the instrument. The reed fits onto the mouthpiece, in front of the opening facing the player. The thick, blunt end of the reed should aim towards the ground, while the thinner, curved side should be on top. It should not hang over the top of the mouthpiece, nor sit too low. The reed must be moist prior to playing, and it is held in place by the ligature. The ligature is the circular attachment with fastening screws, and is made with leather or metal. Fit the ligature over the reed and mouthpiece, and tighten the fastening screws; it should be snug, neither too tight nor too loose. Now the clarinet can be tuned. Clarinets are typically tuned to a concert Bā™ and the pitch is adjusted by pushing in, or pulling out the barrel. If the clarinet is sharp (pitch is too high), pull out the barrel slightly to lower the pitch. If the clarinet is flat (pitch is too low) push in the barrel; if it is already pushed in all of the way, make sure all other joints are completely connected with no gaps. This was during the period known as Hundred Schools of Thought. • 15. A Writing Ecology Is A Dynamic, Interconnected System Of... A writing ecology is a dynamic, interconnected system of communication, which works together through interaction and sharing. As the term ecology traditionally refers to the relationships between organisms in an environment, the ability to metaphorically link this to a concept of writing redefines the complexity of networked technologies and the influences of technological change. The ability to participate in a digitally evolving space opens up new possibilities and opportunities when accessing and expressing knowledge and information. Snowfall (Branch, 2016) is an explicit example of this as it demonstrates key concepts through optimising its environment. By allowing the audience to actively engage themselves in the text, Snowfall revolutionised traditional media in its time. Writing as a digitally networked environment enriches the experience of the reader by allowing them to interact with new technological forms. The ability to engage in multimodal writing spaces exceeds traditional alphabetic text by drawing upon the audience s sensory responses. New multimodal media explores still and moving images, music, colour and sound that entices and interacts with the responder. Snowfall is an example of this as it discusses the affects an avalanche had on the town of Tunnel Creek. Its interactive form produces an interesting layout, which gives the reader a more active and dynamic experience in contrast to traditional and more restrictive written text. By using a ... Movies are also among the most pirated forms of media which makes it even easier for minors to view such material. A notable instance of violent media being scapegoated as a reason of violent behavior is the Columbine High School Massacre of 1999 in which Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, students at Columbine, gunned down 12 students and a teacher, while also injuring a teacher. The pair were eventually found to be avid players of Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Duke Nukem, violent video games. They were also fans of the 1994 movie Natural Born Killers, which is about two mass murders. The parents of the Columbine victims also sued the publishers of the video games that Klebold and Harris played, blaming the video games for the shooting. But what the parents and many other people overlooked is that the two boys were victims of bullying and depression. So it s unfair and unwise to put the blame solely on video games and movies are reasoning behind the shooting. Violent media such as movies and video games have a mental effect on young children and minors, but their daily lives dictate whether or not they make them violent in nature. The reason video games and movies on their own don t dictate whether or not they make children violent could be found in Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory which basically says that people, not just children, learn from the action of others such as friends, family, and peers. Jake, from the novel, The Sun also Rises by Ernest Hemingway also experiences a loss when his penis was shot off in the war. Vardaman s messy and confusing thoughts reflect his struggle to fully comprehend what is happening as his family embarks on a long journey to bury Addie. Jewel s mother is a horse. My mother is a fish. Darl says that when we come to the water again I might see her and Dewey Dell said, She s in a box; how could she have got out? (Faulkner 184). Vardaman isn t accustomed to understanding and forming rational thoughts on his own, and when his mother dies he loses a substantial influencer in the formation of his identity. Now he gets easily confused on simple things, such as how his mother got out of the box if she is a fish. What makes this description of Vardaman s confused thoughts so dynamic is Faulkner s usage of short sentences that are juxtaposed with long sentences. The short sentences state what he thinks is right, but then the next sentence flows from what Darl said to what Dewy Dell said, and by the end of that sentence he wonders how any of it pieces together. That mesh of different ideas into one long sentence parallels with the mess of confusion about everything in Vardaman s life. Along with complex sentence structure, Faulkner uses complicated diction to express the character s emotions. You kilt my maw! (Faulkner 48). The slang is used by Faulkner to create the effect that Vardaman s confused thoughts and emotions are directly going from him to the reader. One of Faulkner s stylistic purposes of this is to make the reader intensely aware of the feelings and needs of each family member ( Notable American Novelists 451). He does this by making it seem as though the character wrote the words instead of Faulkner himself, which in a sense draws a deeper understanding of the character s emotions for the reader. • 21. A Report Of The Bezymianny Volcano During The Kamchatka... Abstract Zoning in plagioclase feldspar is often an indicator of magmatic differentiation. This is mainly due to the process of fractional crystallization changing the chemistry of magmatic bodies, and has been documented in many localities. A case study will examine a 2010 report of the Bezymianny Volcano in the Kamchatka peninsula of Russia, where researchers studied oscillatory zoning in the plagioclase. An interpretation of the results has shown frequent replenishments to the magma chamber, and many magmatic differentiation processes including magma mixing, addition of volatiles, and reheating and convection the melt body (Shcherbakov et al., 2010). Introduction Zoning occurs in plagioclase feldspars as they crystallize out of a melt, as composition of the magma changes. These changes occur due to the formation of minerals consuming certain elements present in the magma (Gill, 2010). Plagioclase is an excellent indicator for this progressive depletion of elements, as it forms a continuous series of anorthite (calcium rich, CaAl2Si2O8) to albite (sodium rich, NaAlSi3O8) (Nesse, 2011). Because of the differences in composition, the feldspar chemistry can be used to interpret the magmatic processes which led to the production of these feldspars. The zoning pattern reflects the chemical changes, which have occurred to the magma body and can show magmatic differentiation processes such as magma mixing and changes in temperature, pressure and water content (Churikova ... Question: Examine the advantages and disadvantages for China of harmonization of accounting standards under the current economic and social system. With the development of economic globalization and capital markets, accounting standards based on a national system cannot satisfy the needs of users whose decisions are increasingly international. Therefore harmonization of accounting standards has become an inevitable choice for many countries. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A large amount of material, money and human resources have to be devoted in the process of institutional change and adaptation. For example, according to China Accounting Standards Committee (n.d.), in March 2003, the Committee hired 160 consultants in order to assist its institutional change. Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if each one spends at least ļæ„1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the total amount of training costs would be ļæ„12 million. Though some costs of institutional change and adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be calculated. Adapting harmonizing accounting standards is neither an easy nor a rapid procedure. For instance, during the adaptation period, accountants would make some mistakes or spend a long time learning those accounting standards, which cannot be measured and would influence performance of harmonization of accounting standards. Tang (2000) claims that some managers even felt that the cost of preparation and audit overweighed its advantages in the initial stage of implementation. The second potential disadvantage of harmonization of accounting standards is chaotic management for enterprises in China. As China is in a transitional period from a centrally planned economy to a market economy, economic system has an impact on accounting and accordingly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Much like the in the current day, the respect that old Southern ways demands from the region s inhabitants has not changed and will likely remain a constant fixture for generations to come. For more than a century Mark Twain s novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been ridiculed and banned by schools across the United States. Over the years many people have asked Should this novel be taught in classrooms? Most believe that this novel does more harm than good. This novel should be taught in schools because it provides a clear picture of what time was like back in the 1800s. The N word is known to cause many problems but if teachers can teach the message Twain was trying to say then students would understand that this book was not hating on a particular group of people. As Americans we can learn from this novel, to never allow such racist claims to any race throughout our future. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be taught in schools because it is not just a book about slaves and a boy who has grown up to be a low life. It is more about friendship, back in the 1800s white people were taught to dehumanize black people. But in the novel, Huck and Jim become very close. The most important step in science is observation, the point of observation is so that the experiment can be measured and or the experiment can be repeated with similar or the same results. Hypotheses are then developed to disprove the observation as many scientists believe hypothesis can never be proven. Opinions are not facts and are based on subjective influences. Opinions cannot be measured or disproven because it is personal. Science cannot address all the issues and concerns due to the limit and restrictions it has. The fact that not everything can be proven shows how science cannot address all the issues. Even though everyday mankind is creating new technology to help humans better understand nature, there will always be some elements that are beyond human capabilities. Water is unique in that it is the only natural substance that is found in all three states liquid, solid (ice) and gas (steam) at the temperatures normally found on earth . (http://aquarius.umaine.edu/activities/prop_fresh_sea.pdf) In order to understand why water has such a high boiling point, high freezing point, and high capacity of heat the molecule itself has to be examined. • 42. Essay about Maximus and Odysseus Maximus and Odysseus While watching the film Gladiator with my girlfriend I realized the striking similarities that heroes share. However, I always wonder who is more of a hero. The definition or hero is a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. So let us compare the two heroes as the dictionary defines them. In the end I hope to be able to define who is a greater hero. Maximus was a great warrior in the Roman legion under Emperor Marcus Aurelius. His first courageous feat occurs when he defeats the last of the Barbarians of Germaina. Leading his army along a 12 year campaign he brought it to an end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although they are opposite ends of the spectrum, they both must go from one extreme to the other to get to the end of their story. Starting with Odysseus courageous efforts he first defeats the Trojans at the battle of Troy with the wooden horse. Much like Maximus his story begins with him winning a great war that has gone on for years. Odysseus must use his intellect more so than his brute strength, such as when he escapes the Cyclops. Unlike Maximus Odysseus makes the mistake right off the bat of revealing his name to the Cyclops when he is leaving, thus he cannot return home yet because he hasn t become a nobody yet. The reoccurring theme between the two that I see is that the must reach a certain state before the end of their story can take place. Odysseus has to become a plain man not a war hero, and Maximus must win the crowd over and they need to know who is so he cannot be slain in the dungeons. In his last great show of strength Odysseus strings a bow and kills the suitors that were trying to steal his wife from him while he was gone. Odysseus finally reaches his home in the end and yes becomes that nobody that we so often mention. His journey home was filled with trials much like Maximus was. Odysseus suffered the wrath of the gods, cannibals, giants and even had to wrestle Poseidon. Maximus had to fight in the coliseum against outrageous odds, battling with live tigers nipping at his heels, and ultimately in the end he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Minority Populations Throughout Austin s history, minority populations were isolated through political acts such as A City Plan in 1928, which wanted to make Austin beautiful so that involved removing minorities from the area surrounding the capital. In addition, schools for minorities were restricted to just the East side to force minority populations to move there. By the 1990 s, Austin was branded with the title Live Music Capital of the World. This title gave rise to an economic and social boost to Austin, but by doing so, it diluted the native culture into a hipster culture. In 1991, Austin was awarded the title Live Music Capital of the World due to the fact it has the largest number of music venues for population. According to Baker s article, Austin has 1 music venue for 4,125 people while the mainstream cities like New York City and Los Angeles has only 1 music venue per 29,600 people and 1 per 16,380 people respectively. Austin s primarily strength as a music capital comes from its college city scene (due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Titan Music Group s The Austin Music Census Report, 66% of musicians were Caucasian, 10.4% were Hispanic and 4.4% were African Americans. The total Austin population consisted of 79.8% Caucasians, 31.9% Hispanics and 7.2% were African American. The census also shows that the music industry is mostly men. These statistics are interesting because it shows that the Austin music scene is dominated by white males and that minorities are underrepresented in Austin. This is demonstrated by the demographics that show the African American community is moving away from Austin. Blues music is known for being black music and that white people tend not to play it as well. In the Austin music scene, blacks tend to feel that the scene is inauthentic because whites are singing music representing black culture and the black musicians are a rarity (Gatchet, Titan Music ... • 44. Literary Techniques Used in the Memoir of Ishmael Beah, A... In the memoir of Ishmael Beah, A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Beah states that his life s journey has been a huge obstacle, but has learned to overcome that struggle by venting while the two contradictory sides continue their battling. Beah accomplishes his goal of explaining to the reader his point of view through the use of rhetorical questions, scenic narration, and parallelism. Ishmael Beah s apparent purpose is to share personal accounts of his life with his fellow country men, in a country where war affects people to a level beyond the imagination. He is able to apply his purpose using a grotesque and bitter tone. Beah approaches his audience of ordinary people in this manner in order to vent his feelings about war by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through Beah s use of questions, the reader is able ponder on the question as if Beah is asking the questions to him or her. Secondly, Beah describes gruesome, fearful, and horrific times and scenes with the help of scenic narration. For example, Beah says, I am pushing a rusty wheelbarrow in a town where the air smells of blood and burnt flesh. The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose last breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing, their intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their noses and ears. This statement gives an excellent and direct impression of the brutality of the rebels. Conceivably, this could be labeled as a massive genocide in the way Beah retells it. A Long Way Gone is full of daunting scenes and bitter language. Ishmael Beah states, Setting the body on the ground, I start to unwrap it, beginning at the feet. All the way up to the neck, there are bullet holes. One bullet has crushed the Adam s apple and sent the remains of it to the back of the throat. I lift the cloth from the body s face. I am looking at my own. Beah shows powerful and visible emotion in the way he describes this person. When he says that he is looking at his own, that makes the reader feel as if Beah is describing a family member or a very loving friend. Although, the last portion of this quote is emotional, Beah still describes gruesomeness the Adam s apple being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
