Literary Terms For The End
Literary Terms for In the End Linkin Park s In the End is a song that many people can relate to
because it is about a situation that everyone has encountered. The approach Chester uses to describe a
hard situation by using the structure, symbolism and prosody he specifically picks out makes the song
catchy and relatable. The way he forms the song and the words he picked out allows a depressing
moment to become an inspiration for anyone going through hard times. The most important literary
term is structure, this is the beginning layout of the poem, story or song. This is how the poem is
organized it is where the author decides how the story is to begin, the details that are going to keep the
reader intrigued, the crisis and the climax and the way the poem is to end, the resolution. Even in the
song In the End there is an outline of how it begins and ends. Right away the author shows that there
is a major complication, he has worked hard at reaching a goal or helping a person and has failed.
Then further down in the lyrics he shows the crisis, where all of the reasons are starting to build up as
to why he has decided not to stay with the other character in the song, he sings reasons like when you
were mocking me, acting like I was your property and fighting all the time. He even sings about
everything has changed and there is no way to bring it back. He then lines it up with when the chorus
hits; we see the resolution of the song. This part shows the realization that

Matisse s Bonheur De Vivre, Paul Cézanne
Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre, Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, and Paul Cézanne s The Large
Bathers (Harris Zucker, n.d.) were some of the most notable paintings at the beginning of the 20th
century. At this time, art had essentially evolved from the impressionist movement, whose ideas were
mainly the building blocks of the modernist movement. This paper looks at these specific works with
respect to how Picasso s and Matisse s pieces can be regarded as having been inspired by and moving
away from Cézanne s piece at the same time. The Large Bathers depicts some female nude figures
placed in a space between trees on either side. One striking similarity with Bonheur de Vivre is that it
also has nude female figures as part of the main subject matter. This seemed like a common theme at
the time as artists expressed their thoughts through paintings. In addition, Matisse used color to great
effect in his painting, just as color was used on Cézanne s. The canvas on The Large Bathers shows
the use of color and diagonal lines to give an impression of the element of space both in the
foreground and beyond the position of the female figures. What s different in Matisse s painting is that
the space is shown through the figures that are placed in groups apart, ... Show more content on

Additionally, Picasso s painting shows a connection between the figures in that they seem to have a
focal point that they are facing, just like in Cézanne s painting, where the figures supposedly are all
involved in the activity. While Picasso applied color and lines to give shape to the figures as Cézanne
did in his painting, the difference is that Picasso s painting has the figures defined by sharp pointed
edges unlike the curves in The Large Bathers. The other notable difference is that the sense of space
exhibited in Cézanne s painting is not seen Picasso s, as the figures are crammed up in a limited

Outline And Evaluate The Memory Process
Memory is the term given to the structures and processes involved in the storage and subsequent
retrieval of information. Memory is essential to all our lives. Without a memory of the past we cannot
operate in the present or think about the future. Memory is involved in processing vast amounts of
information. This information takes many different forms, e.g. images, sounds or meaning.
The multi store model (Atkinson, Shiffrin 1968) describes memory in terms of information flowing
through a system. Accordingly, it can be described as an information processing model with an input,
process and output. Information is detected by the sense organs and enters the sensory memory. If
attended to this information enters the short term memory. Information from the STM is then
transferred to the long term memory by rehearsal.
Miller s (1956) Magic number 7 (plus or minus two) provides evidence for the capacity of short term
memory. Most adults can store between 5 and 9 items in their short term memory. This idea was put
forward by Miller and he called it the magic number 7. He though that short term memory could hold
7 (plus or minus 2 items) because it only had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

presented his participants with random sequence of digits or letters and they were asked to repeat them
back in the same order. They are first given 1 digit to repeat and the digit increases by one at a time to
the sequence until the participant can no longer recall the given digits in order. Capacity refers to the
amount of information that can be held at any one time in memory. Jacobs found that the average span
for digits was 9.3 numbers and 7.3 for letters. The span increases with age because people learn how
to chunk the information given. This findings suggested that STM has a limited storage capacity of
between about 5 to 9

A Position Within The Political Communications Field
1. Introduction: This paper will focus on a position within the Political Communications field.
Political Communications is a sub field incorporating both political science and communications
disciplines; dealing with the production, and distribution of effects of information, both through the
use of media interpersonally and within a political context (Norris, 2004). The process operates
downwards from governing institutions towards citizens, horizontally in connection among different
political actors, and also upwards from general public opinion towards authoritative figures (Norris,
2004). For the sake of this paper, there will be a particular focus on the position of Director of
Communications held by Steve Kee at the Insurance Bureau of Canada. 2. Background: Established in
1964, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (also known as the IBC) is the leading national industry
organization representing Canada s private home, auto and business insurance (Insurance Bureau of
Canada, 2016). The IBC has worked on a number of fronts, by means of increasing public
understanding of the different divisions of insurance (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). Its goal is to
make communities, both small and large, safer, while championing issues directly affecting Canadians
(Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). As of 1997, the merging of both the Insurance Bureau of Canada
and the Insurance Crime Prevention Bureau of Canada resulted in the drastic restricting of the

DeLauro ran for the open seat and defeated Republican State Senator Thomas Scott 52% to 48%. She
has never faced another election so close, and has been reelected twelve times, never going below
63% of the vote. This past election in 2016, DeLauro was up against Republican candidate Angel
Cadena, but DeLauro was re elected with 69% of the vote. It is very clearly shown by certain
controversial topics that Rosa DeLauro is a liberal or has liberal idealism. To start with DeLauro is pro
choice and believes that anybody can have an abortion for absolutely any reason. Rosa DeLauro s
interest group ratings include the following: ADA (Americans for Democratic Action) (2006, Liberal)
is 100%, ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) (2011 2012, Liberal) is 100%, ACU (American
Conservative Union) (2010, conservative) 0%, FDR (Family Research Council) (2013, conservative)
is 0%, and the CC (Christian Coalition) (2014, conservative) is 0%. We can see from political issues
and from both conservative and liberal interest groups that Rosa DeLauro is as liberal as they come.

Comparing Nicholas I And Yertle The Turtle
Nicholas I can easily be compared to the story of Yertle the Turtle. Both Yertle and Nicholas have
similar qualities that can be exemplified. Nicholas I and Yertle are power hungry and in their very
different environments, show greed, a bit of arrogance, intolerance and corruption. Yertle the Turtle
began his life as a very happy little turtle. He was king of a nice clean pond , where everyone had
plenty of warm water and enough food to eat.. However, he decided this was not enough. Whether it
be greed or a need to command more power, he wanted to see more than just his one small pond. But I
don t see enough. (stanza 2, line 4) Yertle would do anything to see beyond his one small pond.
Similarly, Nicholas I wanted to control more under his reign in Russia. Both rulers were willing to do

turtles down on bottom. Nicholas I was similarly intolerant with his army. He was intent on acquiring
a large army, in fact his army grew to approximately one million men. However, the men in Nicholas I

Essay Comparing Macbeth And Benazir Bhutto
Despite both Macbeth, a Scottish war hero, and Benazir Bhutto, the first Muslim women Prime

acted out of personal interests, all the while being completely oblivious to his own destruction
whereas Bhutto took notice when she needed to step back from immediate obligations to regather
herself. Macbeth initially valued his King and country and therefore was bestowed the title of Thane
of Cawdor. However, after getting a slight taste of power, Macbeth was overcome by power and his
treacherous crimes of killing copious amounts of people ultimately lead to the suspicions of his fellow
peers. On the contrary, Benazir Bhutto became a prominent political figure through means of honesty
and sincere methods. Her insight was to benefit the citizens of Pakistan and held modernize a country
stuck in traditional ways whereas Macbeth s insight came from initial loyalty to his king, soon colored
by greed which he then committed the ultimate sin of killing innocents. On the other hand, Bhutto was

Presentation of Phaedra and Nurse in Hippolytus
Class Civ Discuss the presentation of Phaedra and nurse in Hippolytus. How sympathetically does
Euripides present these characters? Euripides presents the characters of Phaedra and Nurse in
Hippolytus as two ends on a moral spectrum; Nurse having a pragmatic approach to the tragedy
orchestrated by Cypris while Phaedra takes the idealistic view. It s Phaedra s idealistic morals which
make her such an interesting comparison to Hippolytus as they both conceive themselves and are
portrayed as virtuous people, yet the contrast is their different perceptions of being virtuous. Yet
sympathy wise Phaedra attracts a lot more sympathy than Nurse as Euripides portrays as the start of
the play how these events are completely out of mortal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a feeling of sympathy as Nurse not only accepts Phaedra s problem (not straight away)
but seeks to solve it rather than just let Phaedra die. She says find way to control your sickness
implying that it can be controlled rather than just being lost in or denying completely. Because of her
pragmatic nature she in inclined to work around a problem rather than just seeing it in black and white
meaning that she is able to convince Phaedra that there is hope and that she doesn t have to die and
leave her children and husband. It s this that creates sympathy for Nurse as she does everything out of
a kindness for Phaedra that would be quite unusual for a slave to harbour for a noble. Even when she
does bring about Phaedra s tragedy by telling Hippolytus it is not out of anything malicious but out of
a kindness to try and resolve a difficult situation and even Phaedra recognises this when she says It
was a friend s act but not a noble one to try and cure my sickness . Presenting Nurse as not evil at all
but merely having an error of judgement making the audience sympathise with her because of her
meaning well and trying to do the right thing. In conclusion Euripides does present both characters
sympathetically but focuses more on Phaedra as for the first half of the play she seem like the tragic
heroine even though the play is named Hippolytus. Phaedra is portrayed with sympathy

The Treatment Of Immigrant Women Essay
Although immigrant women play a big role in America s society and economy, they have been
constantly mistreated and looked down upon throughout history. Not only do they face the burden of
the stratifications that their gender entails but they also struggle to adopt the American culture and
norms. America was viewed as the land of opportunities and economic prosperity, a perspective that
draws in many immigrant women who were willing to leave their families and possessions to come to
this foreign country in hopes of a better life. In America, they faced many challenges as they not only
had to work long hours but also took care of their families and do housework as well. They struggled
to make a standard living out of low wage jobs and assimilating into America s society. Today, the
treatment of immigrant women has improved greatly as they have stood together and fought for their
rights. Immigrant women have built communities and held strikes for better pay and treatment.
Although America has made great strides in improving treatment of immigrant women, there is still
social injustice. Immigrant women have come a long way from the first time they entered America
until now, but their stories are often left untold and omitted from American history. Immigrant women
cover many ethnic groups from around the world such as Chinese, Japanese, Jews, Irish and
Mexicans. Upon their first arrival in America, these groups of immigrant women have all been

Essay On Sexuality In Bram Stoker s Dracula
Voluptuous Sexuality
Although in modern times people are exposed to sexuality from a young age through advertisements,
media, and pop culture, during the Victorian era in England, the only acceptable exploration of
repressed sexual desire was through a book that upholds the Christian belief of sexuality s corruptive
effects on society. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, a gothic, horror novel, Dracula, a vampire from
Transylvania, preys on Mina Harker, a devoted Christian and intelligent woman, and Lucy Westenra,

repulsed by and attracted to the vampires, Jonathan experiences sexual desires, and while recounting it
in his journal, he focuses on sensory images, the mouth, skin, and throat, describing the experience as
ecstasy and mirroring the images of sex scenes. The women tempt Jonathan with their sexualized
appearance, but giving into their enchantment would lead to the ultimate punishment for sin, being
brutally attacked and turned into a vampire. Moreover, the pauses and waiting periods that Jonathan
experiences expose the sexual tension prolonging the temptation and sin. Voyeurism further
compounds the sinfulness of Jonathan s interactions with the female vampires. Multiple women who
are not his wife entice him while one engages in sexual behavior with him, and the others watch and

Public Art Essay
Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey) is a
statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their culture, religion,
personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been created is meaningful to
either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be considered art. Art in the public
is a very controversial subject that brings up the important question of, Should public art be
considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I believe that the difference between art that
is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a community is the fact that what is acceptable in a

Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on the
younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on a daily
basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn how to
appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not
have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something
aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more interesting to visit; no one wants
to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where
they had green marbles ground up and put into the black top roads. This sight alone made my heart
race and made this town more exciting. For towns that may have tourism it could be a way to attract to
coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also be a controversial at the same time. There are many
people who express their idea of art in a way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For
example, many people consider paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is
appropriate for a painting of that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people
who use profanity in their art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their
neighborhood buildings. The thing

What Is The Dream In The American Dream
The Dream in Of Mice and Men Of Mice and Men is a novel written by John Steinbeck. The book
tells a story of how two opposite individuals, George and Lennie cope with their problems as they
travel around California in search of ranch work. Throughout the story Steinbeck displays realism.
This category of literature is where the author does not sugar coat life. Steinbeck does not romanticize
the natural world or human nature (Curry). In doing so in this type of reality many people have a
dream . To give an example, Lennie and George had a dream of owning a shack on a piece of land.
Each time these two individuals thought of the dream it creates comfort and security for them because
it gave them hope. In Of Mice and Men the dream ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel Steinbeck displays the harsh reality of life. He displays/writes life as it was during the
depression, the time in which the novel took place in. An example of a character s dream not being
achieved is Curley s wife. As said before her dream was to become a movie star. However, her dream
was not achieved because supposedly her mother destroyed the letter sent to her by a movie producer.
... he was gonna write to me about it... I never got the letter... I always thought my ol lady stole it,
(Steinbeck 88). Nevertheless, us as readers can assume she was catfished or lied to. Curley s wife
never got or received the letter because she was not meant to be an actor. In doing so, Curley s wife s
dream was never achieved even though she believed she could achieve it. Before Curley s wife was
happy when she believed in her dream but after her dream died her life was meaningfulness. That is
why she decided to marry Curly because that was her only way to survive during the depression. This
is an example of the natural world of human nature. Another example of where The Dream is not
achieved is Lennie and George s. As mentioned before Lennie and George have the American Dream
to own a piece of land. They try or attempt to save money by working on ranches. No matter how hard
these two worked they could not achieve the dream because they would run into problems. Including

Punishment Is A Necessary Evil And Punishment

Punishment is a necessary evil and punishment is evoked when someone is believed to have done

Prison is just one of a number of sanctions available to the courts to deal with those who commit
criminal offenses. History shows that prisons (and the system ) have not always been as fair and just
as it now is in the 21st century. (Arguable) Offenders who are convicted and then sentenced to spend
time imprisoned are often those who are socially excluded from society, the poor, deprived, those with
alcohol or drug dependencies or those with mental health issues. Imprisonment today, is one of the
harshest sanctions available, yet, the prison systems incorporate psychology, psychiatrics and
sociology (in the United Kingdom) but this has not always been the case. [Georg Rusche 2003] The
death penalty was once widely accepted. Prisons were created as a means of control. In the 16th and

The Importance of Having Health Insurance
Health insurance is something every person should have as it helps cover medical and surgical
expenses. If a person were to lose an arm or a leg, insurance would help pay for the cost of a
prosthetic or surgery to repair the arm or leg. Most insurance companies offer subsidies such as vision
and dental plans to assist with anything in regards to your eyes or teeth. There are a very few
insurance companies that do offer a hearing plan, but most of those companies are private insurance
companies. (Gandal)So, what about a person that is born with hearing loss or loses their hearing?
Insurance companies do not consider hearing aids as something people need. However, if you were
born with hearing loss or if a tragedy occurred and caused you to lose your hearing you are pretty
much on your own. There are devices and a surgical procedure that you can do to improve your
hearing but the majority of health insurance companies do not consider those as medical necessities.
Actually the health insurance industry considers hearing aids as an elective comparable to liposuction
or plastic surgery. (Christensen) The federal government considers hearing aids to be an optional
treatment for those that could benefit from them, so there is no legislation to provide coverage for
hearing aids. (Early) If hearing loss were considered a disability, it would be the highest rated form of
disability. (Christensen) Thirteen thousand babies are born with some form of permanent hearing loss

Rasputin Was An Infamous Siberian Holy Man
Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was an infamous Siberian holy man , whose ability to cure the Tsar and
Tsarina s son of haemophilia led to him becoming an important friend and spiritual advisor to the
Romanov royal family (Duffy, 2009). Rasputin was a paradox, by day he was a supreme mystic at
court and at night he obtained a reputation as a notorious drunk and philanderer (Rae Thompson,
2014). By 1916 Rasputin was viewed by many as a malevolent puppeteer who infiltrated his way into
the royal family, pulling the strings of the Tsar s wife and manipulating the regime (Rae Thompson,
2014). While his influence and status may have been overstated Rasputin became an obvious
scapegoat for Russian aristocrats, liberals and nationalists, synonymous with debauchery, lust and
power his presence brought considerable shame and discredit to the tsarist government (Moss, 2003).
The dominant viewpoint that Rasputin was the sole reason behind the decay of the Romanov reign is
presented by Mikhail Rodzianko, Chairman of the Duma, who stated that The appearance in [the
royal] court of Grigory Rasputin, and the influence he exercised there, mark the beginning of the
decay of Russian society and the loss of prestige for the throne and for the person of the Tsar himself .
However, although Rasputin s company played a significant role in the increasing unpopularity of the
Imperial couple, he was purely a symbol of Russian despotism and not a central character in the
downfall of the Romanov

The Character of Linda Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Linda is the heart of the Loman family in Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman. She is wise,
warm, and sympathetic. She knows her husband s faults and her son s characters. For all her frank
appraisals, she loves them. She is contrasted with the promiscuous sex symbolized by the Woman and
the prostitutes. They operate in the world outside as part of the impersonal forces that corrupt. Happy
equates his promiscuity with women to taking manufacturer s bribes, and Willy s Boston woman can
put him right through to the buyers. Linda Loman holds the family together she keeps the accounts,

They are thus in an objective rather than subjective category. In any case what feel is always more real
to us than what we know, and we feel the family relationship while we only know, and we feel the
family relationship while we only know the social one. (Arthur Miller, The Family in Modern Drama )
If Willy is not totally unsympathetic (and he is not), much of the goodness in him is demonstrated in
his devotion to his wife, according to his lights. Though he is often masterful and curt, he is still
deeply concerned about her: I was fired, and I m looking for a little good news to tell your mother,
because the woman has waited and the woman has suffered. Biff is attached to his mother, and Happy
s hopelessness is most graphic in his failure to be honest with, or concerned about, his family. The
family s devotion to one another, even though misguided, represents a recognizable American ideal.
Linda, for all her warmth and goodness, goes along with her husband and sons in the best success
manual tradition. She tries to protect them from the forces outside and fails. The memory of her
suffering and her fidelity does not keep Willy and Happy from sex or Biff from wandering. Miller s
irony goes still deeper. While Linda is a mirror of goodness and the source of the family s sense of
identity, she is not protection

Similarities And Differences Between Mesopotamia And Egypt
The ancient civilizations that inhabited Mesopotamia mark some of the first times where humans
formed complex societies. Mesopotamia was located in the Fertile Crescent in modern day Iraq,
surrounded on both sides by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers which were its source of life. Both rivers
flooded irregularly, and the black silt deposited by the flooding made the land extremely suitable for
farming. Aside from the two rivers, Mesopotamia did not have any other natural barriers like
mountains or deserts to protect itself from invaders. Ancient Egypt, another civilization that flourished
about the same time, was centered around the Nile River Valley and Delta. The area next to the river
was lush and well watered due to predictable flooding. Most of the people during this era lived close
to the river and centered their life around it. The other parts of Egypt were the Sinai Peninsula, which
connected to the Arabian Peninsula; the Western Desert, which was part of the greater Libyan Desert;
and the Eastern Desert, which was part of the Arabian Desert. These deserts made the Nile region less
accessible to other civilizations than Mesopotamia. The similarities and differences in the
geographical nature of Mesopotamia and Egypt influenced the political, economic and religious
aspects of the ancient civilizations that flourished there.
Because of its geographical location, Mesopotamia consisted of shorter lasting empires which are
generally grouped together because of the region.

Nigger Thesis
The book Nigger is an autobiography about Dick Gregory explaining the struggle he had to endure
growing up as a black man in America, his rise to fame, and involvement in the Civil Rights
Movement. Nigger also puts emphasis on the current topics of poverty, racism, struggle, and mental
slavery and how to free yourself from it. He shows this by explaining how becoming a man played an
instrumental role in a movement toward race equality, that America very much needed. Despite the
atmosphere he was raised in designed to produce hardships, whether by the color of his skin, his
family financial situation, or lack of education. He seems to build credibility throughout the book as

vibrant when he states Were ready to change a system where a white man can destroy a black man
with a single word. Nigger. When we re through momma, there won t be any niggers anymore.
Basically, affirming that he is trying to make a change where mere words, appearances, or race cannot
define a man or make him any less of a man. As he is conversing with his mother he is reiterating this
fact, because simply being called a nigger you are automatically deemed less equal. By eliminating the
word niggers all together equality is becoming a step closer. His work is very similar to those of
Martin Luther King s, which he marched with in several movements. Such as I have a dream that my

to be defined by character. Although he was recognized for his civil rights activist side, he is also
famous for his comedic side. He does this by using dark humor towards racism and mental slavery. He
used slavery to open people eyes and help them realize the threat on pressing issues. One of his lines

Music Community And Text Analysis
Analysis of How Texts Are Produced in the Music Community
Since the beginning of my further learning and development in the way an individual enculturates
oneself and communicates in a community, I have been vastly interested in the way musicians
communicate through producing texts, and how artists become enculturated into the musical
community. Writing and publishing is conducted in sets and genres. These genres and discourses are
forms of life which integrate words, acts, values, beliefs, attitudes, and social identities as well as

The Consequences Of Air Pollution
Air pollution is a global issue that the community should act upon to prevent any further
consequences. Air pollution is caused by toxic chemicals in the air. The essential wellsprings of
pollution are heaters in processing plants, motors in vehicles and the consuming of junk. Air Pollution
is a hurtful substance to the air that brings harm to the Earth and human wellbeing. Some air
pollutions come back to earth as acidic rain, which it can harm crops, and make streams harmful for
other plant and creature life. Haze is another outcome from air pollution, which is destructive to
people. Global warming can likely be a reason, because of air pollutions, which makes the earth
temperature increase. Air pollution is a global issue that concerns the environment because it can
negatively affect the health of the environment, cause global warming, as well as acidification. If
everyone lets this event continue, then it can affect the wellbeing of the environment and the
individuals around it.
Air pollution can drastically affect the health of the environment in various ways that can affect the
quality of life of individuals. For example, ground level ozone is a colorless gas that is formed when
nitrogen oxides volatile organic compounds react in the sun. This ozone is the reason why there is
smog. Air pollution causes exhaustion of the ozone layer, which permits a more prominent number of

Amadeus By Peter Shaffer
Amadeus Influential Values
Peter Shaffer s Amadeus presents to the reader many human values. The most prominent being envy,
deceit and self sacrifice. During the course of the play these features are displayed through Salieri s
actions, emotions and dialogue.
The relationship between Salieri and Mozart is like a painting, commencing with splattered envy after
Mozart s extordinary musical talents disrupt Salieri s clean, white, sanity. Splatters become blotches
when Mozart uses Salieri s prize pupil (33), Katherina Cavalieri, to fulfill his professional and sexual
aspirations. Covered in thick, black envy, Salieri seeks lust to better himself than his opponent: As I

Salieri trying to interfere with Mozart s opera, The Marriage of Figaro displays his second step of
deceit. Upon hearing that Mozart s new opera contained ballet, which is verboten in the Emperor s
operas, he wickedly conveys this information to his colleagues and attempts to destroy his opera.
Although Mozart is distressed when approached by this fact, he still manages to work through his
deceit and is able to achieve the emperor s consent of the dance after being harassed and mentally
walloped on from Salieri and his colleagues. Mozart accuses Salieri at the beginning of this uproar but
is then altered after hearing this following quote from Salieri displaying his feign concern for the
stressed fellow: Mozart, permit me. If you wish, I will speak to the Emperor myself. Ask him to attend
a rehearsal (70).
Salieri s third step of deceit is illustrated by having the Baron attend a small opera hosted by Mozart
that mocks modern day opera themes. This of course enrages the Baron and causes Mozart to be
shunned by all men of influence and leads him deeper into depression. Salieri had of course suggested
it (92), for the Baron to come but keeps his amity with Mozart by expressing that all is not lost (93).
The final step of deceit is exhibited by way of Salieri appearing to the demented creature as the
Messenger of God! (94) And scaring him to death by forcing him to write his own requiem. With
Mozart at his weakest state,

The Generalization Of Sex Workers In The Bachelorette, By...
This can be epitomized by the movie The Bachelorette by Leslye Headland, where a sex worker is
shown to ask a client for 300 dollars for a one finger touch of her stomach and is okay with being paid
in cocaine rather than money. Sex workers, such as the stripper that was presented in The
Bachelorette, are portrayed as workers who only seek to trick men out of more money or drugs, and as
women who deserve the hard life of prostitution consequently for their deviant lifestyle choices. This
portrayal negatively generalizes sex workers as workers whose primary objective is to scheme in order
to have an influx of and an abundance of cash, when in fact many work for less than minimum wage
and are working to stay above the poverty line. As Neon Wasteland by Susan Dewey notes many of
the workers that started operating in sex work do so after failing to find jobs that can provide them the
same amount of income and relative flexibility that sex work provides (Preface). The negative
portrayal of sex workers in movies can also be seen in the film Magic Mike by Steven Soderbergh,
where the main character strips only as a way to pursue his pastime, and is surrounded by the party
lifestyle. This scene contributes to the negative generalization of sex work and portrayal of sex
workers as stripping solely for the purpose of an influx of cash as well as a clear dependence on drugs
and on the party lifestyle is inaccurate for the majority of sex workers and negatively impacts sex
workers

Microbiology Of The Ancient Times Essay
MICROBIOLOGY IN THE ANCIENT TIMES Gone are the days when the scientists used the Liquid
media for the study of microorganisms and used to grow them in the laboratories. Above all, when
they had to segregate the microorganisms to study and gather information on the individual growth
pattern and characteristics, the liquid media was not useful at all. In 1881, Robert Koch used
aseptically cut slices of the potato as a solid culture medium which was supplemented with gelatin
which was poured and allowed to solidify. This Technique however helped them to identify the
discrete colonies of the microorganisms. Gelatin did not solidify during the summer and therefore Dr.
Hesse came up with the concept of using agar agar as the medium and this revolutionised the
Microbiological Sciences. These methods however were very time consuming, difficult to study the
discrete characteristics of the microorganisms and made it necessary to sub culture in the additional
media. NEED OF THE HOUR For these reasons we need to develop approaches to the detection,
quantification and identification of the microorganisms. This is especially important in the food
manufacturing industries as a quality risk management. We need quick methods which can help in
efficient monitoring of the manufacturing processes and also helps to ensure the proper state of control
HACCP analysis therefore reducing the process variability and increasing the

Masks And Figures In Picasso s Guernica By Pablo Picasso
In the painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso, the artist uses abstract shapes and figures to represent the
horrors of war. The work is a large mural painted in oils and the colors used are variations of black
and white. By using these dark somber colors instead of bright vibrant colors, Picasso shows that
Guernica is not a painting that is supposed to be visually pleasing but instead is supposed to present a
message. Certain shades of grey in the painting look like that of an old printed newspaper and almost
make the work seem like it is a picture you might see on the front page. Picasso uses shape quite a bit
and the painting seems to be centered on a triangular shape that draws the eye upwards and to the
center to the eyeball. This eyeball, with an iris made out of a lightbulb, looks to be casting a light
down upon all of the carnage. The jumble of human limbs, geometric shapes, and animal heads are
given emphasis because they appear to rest atop a solid black background. There are quite a few
figures in this piece and the overall movement in it is chaotic. Certain figures are given emphasis
because of their size, such as the woman holding the candlestick, the bull s head, and the crying
woman holding her child.
Guernica was named after a village in Picasso s home country that was bombed for two days straight
during the Spanish Civil War. This painting was his response to the tragedy. It was largely overlooked
when it was first unveiled because of the abstract nature of its composition but is now seen as famous
representation of the devastating effects of war on innocent people.
Francisco Goya s The Disasters of War, No. 18: Bury Them and Say Nothing is an etching with
aquatint. It is also in black and white and features another gruesome image of war. It is smaller in
scale than Guernica, but it s realistic depiction of a pile of dead bodies lying on the ground make it a
powerful image. The dark black ink used to cover the ground beneath them emphasizes the bodies and
draws the viewers eye to them. Standing just above the bodies to the right are two figures that appear
to be mourning the dead lying before them. The upper half of the etching that represents the sky is
completely empty, drawing the eye to two

The Effect Of Heat Engines On Energy Essay
An engine is a device, which transforms one form of energy into another form. While transforming
energy from one form to another, the efficiency of conversion plays an important role. Normally, most
of the engines convert thermal energy into mechanical work and therefore they are called heat engines
. Heat engine is a device that transforms the chemical energy of a fuel into thermal energy and utilizes
this thermal energy to perform useful work. Thus, thermal energy is converted to mechanical energy in
a heat engine. Fuel economy of engines is greatly improved from the past and probably continued to
be improved, increased in number of automobiles alone dictate that there will be a great demand for
fuel in the near future. Alternative fuel technology, availability, and use must and will become more
common in the coming decades. However, the use of an alternative fuel decreases the break thermal
efficiency of engines, due to lower calorific values compared to normal petrol fuel. Also due to the
high cost of petroleum products, some countries are developing and trying to use alternative fuels for
vehicles. Internal combustion engines are established as the main power source for the automobile
vehicles. At present emission norms become strict for any IC engine. The main pollutants in SI engine
are CO, UBHC, NOx, etc. from which CO and UBHC are the most harmful component. Since
emissions are byproducts of the combustion process, the main body of petrol engine research is to

Henry VIII s flagship the Mary Rose was a four masted carrack built in Portsmouth by a team of

example in the history of the transition in England from clinker (edge joined planks) to carvel (frame

same time, the growing artillery requirements required innovations in gun port design and hull

repurpose merchant vessels by adding guns in case of war, but as Scotland and France were both

Japan s Laws Of The Trafficking Of Women And Children Is...
Japan is a Tier 2 source, transit, and destination country for forced labor, sexual exploitation, and
forced marriages. Men, women, and children are all susceptible to trafficking. The government
actively participates in the exploitation of its people, especially through the program of TITP, or the
Technical Intern Training Program. The proliferation of the sexual trafficking of women and children
is driven by sex tourism. Runaway girls are among the victims of this horrific trade. Japan does not
meet the minimum standard of the 2000 UN TIP Protocol and is the only G 8 member who did not
accede to neither its standards nor the 2000 Transnational Organized Crime Convention. There are no
convictions for perpetrators of forced labor and no laws enacted to prosecute traffickers. Japan s laws
are not collusive with international definitions of trafficking. In 2015, Japan had a modest increase in
the enforcement of ant trafficking laws. However, Japan s laws do not exclude all forms of trafficking,
rather there are large gaps in their criminal laws. Under the 1956 Prostitution Prevention Law, Articles
7 through 12 criminalizes the procurement of prostitutes and forced prostitution. Article 226 2 also
criminalizes the buying and selling of humans. Under the 1947 Employment Security Act, it

Matisse s Bonheur De Vivre, Paul Cézanne Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre, Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, and Paul Cézanne s The Large Bathers (Harris Zucker, n.d.) were some of the most notable paintings at the beginning of the 20th century. At this time, art had essentially evolved from the impressionist movement, whose ideas were mainly the building blocks of the modernist movement. This paper looks at these specific works with respect to how Picasso s and Matisse s pieces can be regarded as having been inspired by and moving away from Cézanne s piece at the same time. The Large Bathers depicts some female nude figures placed in a space between trees on either side. One striking similarity with Bonheur de Vivre is that it also has nude female figures as part of the main subject matter. This seemed like a common theme at the time as artists expressed their thoughts through paintings. In addition, Matisse used color to great effect in his painting, just as color was used on Cézanne s. The canvas on The Large Bathers shows the use of color and diagonal lines to give an impression of the element of space both in the foreground and beyond the position of the female figures. • 5. Outline And Evaluate The Memory Process Memory is the term given to the structures and processes involved in the storage and subsequent retrieval of information. Memory is essential to all our lives. Without a memory of the past we cannot operate in the present or think about the future. Memory is involved in processing vast amounts of information. This information takes many different forms, e.g. images, sounds or meaning. The multi store model (Atkinson, Shiffrin 1968) describes memory in terms of information flowing through a system. Accordingly, it can be described as an information processing model with an input, process and output. Information is detected by the sense organs and enters the sensory memory. If attended to this information enters the short term memory. Information from the STM is then transferred to the long term memory by rehearsal. Miller s (1956) Magic number 7 (plus or minus two) provides evidence for the capacity of short term memory. Most adults can store between 5 and 9 items in their short term memory. This idea was put forward by Miller and he called it the magic number 7. He though that short term memory could hold 7 (plus or minus 2 items) because it only had a ... Capacity refers to the amount of information that can be held at any one time in memory. Jacobs found that the average span for digits was 9.3 numbers and 7.3 for letters. The span increases with age because people learn how to chunk the information given. This findings suggested that STM has a limited storage capacity of between about 5 to 9 ... • 6. A Position Within The Political Communications Field 1. Introduction: This paper will focus on a position within the Political Communications field. Political Communications is a sub field incorporating both political science and communications disciplines; dealing with the production, and distribution of effects of information, both through the use of media interpersonally and within a political context (Norris, 2004). The process operates downwards from governing institutions towards citizens, horizontally in connection among different political actors, and also upwards from general public opinion towards authoritative figures (Norris, 2004). For the sake of this paper, there will be a particular focus on the position of Director of Communications held by Steve Kee at the Insurance Bureau of Canada. 2. Background: Established in 1964, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (also known as the IBC) is the leading national industry organization representing Canada s private home, auto and business insurance (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). The IBC has worked on a number of fronts, by means of increasing public understanding of the different divisions of insurance (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). Its goal is to make communities, both small and large, safer, while championing issues directly affecting Canadians (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). • 10. Presentation of Phaedra and Nurse in Hippolytus Class Civ Discuss the presentation of Phaedra and nurse in Hippolytus. How sympathetically does Euripides present these characters? Euripides presents the characters of Phaedra and Nurse in Hippolytus as two ends on a moral spectrum; Nurse having a pragmatic approach to the tragedy orchestrated by Cypris while Phaedra takes the idealistic view. It s Phaedra s idealistic morals which make her such an interesting comparison to Hippolytus as they both conceive themselves and are portrayed as virtuous people, yet the contrast is their different perceptions of being virtuous. She says find way to control your sickness implying that it can be controlled rather than just being lost in or denying completely. Because of her pragmatic nature she in inclined to work around a problem rather than just seeing it in black and white meaning that she is able to convince Phaedra that there is hope and that she doesn t have to die and leave her children and husband. It s this that creates sympathy for Nurse as she does everything out of a kindness for Phaedra that would be quite unusual for a slave to harbour for a noble. Even when she does bring about Phaedra s tragedy by telling Hippolytus it is not out of anything malicious but out of a kindness to try and resolve a difficult situation and even Phaedra recognises this when she says It was a friend s act but not a noble one to try and cure my sickness . Presenting Nurse as not evil at all but merely having an error of judgement making the audience sympathise with her because of her meaning well and trying to do the right thing. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. Rasputin Was An Infamous Siberian Holy Man Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was an infamous Siberian holy man , whose ability to cure the Tsar and Tsarina s son of haemophilia led to him becoming an important friend and spiritual advisor to the Romanov royal family (Duffy, 2009). Rasputin was a paradox, by day he was a supreme mystic at court and at night he obtained a reputation as a notorious drunk and philanderer (Rae Thompson, 2014). By 1916 Rasputin was viewed by many as a malevolent puppeteer who infiltrated his way into the royal family, pulling the strings of the Tsar s wife and manipulating the regime (Rae Thompson, 2014). While his influence and status may have been overstated Rasputin became an obvious scapegoat for Russian aristocrats, liberals and nationalists, synonymous with debauchery, lust and power his presence brought considerable shame and discredit to the tsarist government (Moss, 2003). In any case what feel is always more real to us than what we know, and we feel the family relationship while we only know, and we feel the family relationship while we only know the social one. (Arthur Miller, The Family in Modern Drama ) If Willy is not totally unsympathetic (and he is not), much of the goodness in him is demonstrated in his devotion to his wife, according to his lights. Though he is often masterful and curt, he is still deeply concerned about her: I was fired, and I m looking for a little good news to tell your mother, because the woman has waited and the woman has suffered. Biff is attached to his mother, and Happy s hopelessness is most graphic in his failure to be honest with, or concerned about, his family. The family s devotion to one another, even though misguided, represents a recognizable American ideal. Linda, for all her warmth and goodness, goes along with her husband and sons in the best success manual tradition. She tries to protect them from the forces outside and fails. The memory of her suffering and her fidelity does not keep Willy and Happy from sex or Biff from wandering. Miller s irony goes still deeper. • 25. Similarities And Differences Between Mesopotamia And Egypt The ancient civilizations that inhabited Mesopotamia mark some of the first times where humans formed complex societies. Mesopotamia was located in the Fertile Crescent in modern day Iraq, surrounded on both sides by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers which were its source of life. Both rivers flooded irregularly, and the black silt deposited by the flooding made the land extremely suitable for farming. Aside from the two rivers, Mesopotamia did not have any other natural barriers like mountains or deserts to protect itself from invaders. Ancient Egypt, another civilization that flourished about the same time, was centered around the Nile River Valley and Delta. The area next to the river was lush and well watered due to predictable flooding. Most of the people during this era lived close to the river and centered their life around it. The other parts of Egypt were the Sinai Peninsula, which connected to the Arabian Peninsula; the Western Desert, which was part of the greater Libyan Desert; and the Eastern Desert, which was part of the Arabian Desert. These deserts made the Nile region less accessible to other civilizations than Mesopotamia. The similarities and differences in the geographical nature of Mesopotamia and Egypt influenced the political, economic and religious aspects of the ancient civilizations that flourished there. Because of its geographical location, Mesopotamia consisted of shorter lasting empires which are generally grouped together because of the region. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nigger Thesis The book Nigger is an autobiography about Dick Gregory explaining the struggle he had to endure growing up as a black man in America, his rise to fame, and involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. Nigger also puts emphasis on the current topics of poverty, racism, struggle, and mental slavery and how to free yourself from it. He shows this by explaining how becoming a man played an instrumental role in a movement toward race equality, that America very much needed. During the course of the play these features are displayed through Salieri s actions, emotions and dialogue. The relationship between Salieri and Mozart is like a painting, commencing with splattered envy after Mozart s extordinary musical talents disrupt Salieri s clean, white, sanity. Splatters become blotches when Mozart uses Salieri s prize pupil (33), Katherina Cavalieri, to fulfill his professional and sexual aspirations. Salieri trying to interfere with Mozart s opera, The Marriage of Figaro displays his second step of deceit. Upon hearing that Mozart s new opera contained ballet, which is verboten in the Emperor s operas, he wickedly conveys this information to his colleagues and attempts to destroy his opera. Although Mozart is distressed when approached by this fact, he still manages to work through his deceit and is able to achieve the emperor s consent of the dance after being harassed and mentally walloped on from Salieri and his colleagues. Mozart accuses Salieri at the beginning of this uproar but is then altered after hearing this following quote from Salieri displaying his feign concern for the stressed fellow: Mozart, permit me. If you wish, I will speak to the Emperor myself. Ask him to attend a rehearsal (70). Salieri s third step of deceit is illustrated by having the Baron attend a small opera hosted by Mozart that mocks modern day opera themes. This of course enrages the Baron and causes Mozart to be shunned by all men of influence and leads him deeper into depression. Salieri had of course suggested it (92), for the Baron to come but keeps his amity with Mozart by expressing that all is not lost (93). The final step of deceit is exhibited by way of Salieri appearing to the demented creature as the Messenger of God! (94) And scaring him to death by forcing him to write his own requiem. • 31. The Generalization Of Sex Workers In The Bachelorette, By... This can be epitomized by the movie The Bachelorette by Leslye Headland, where a sex worker is shown to ask a client for 300 dollars for a one finger touch of her stomach and is okay with being paid in cocaine rather than money. Sex workers, such as the stripper that was presented in The Bachelorette, are portrayed as workers who only seek to trick men out of more money or drugs, and as women who deserve the hard life of prostitution consequently for their deviant lifestyle choices. This portrayal negatively generalizes sex workers as workers whose primary objective is to scheme in order to have an influx of and an abundance of cash, when in fact many work for less than minimum wage and are working to stay above the poverty line. As Neon Wasteland by Susan Dewey notes many of the workers that started operating in sex work do so after failing to find jobs that can provide them the same amount of income and relative flexibility that sex work provides (Preface). The negative portrayal of sex workers in movies can also be seen in the film Magic Mike by Steven Soderbergh, where the main character strips only as a way to pursue his pastime, and is surrounded by the party lifestyle. This scene contributes to the negative generalization of sex work and portrayal of sex workers as stripping solely for the purpose of an influx of cash as well as a clear dependence on drugs and on the party lifestyle is inaccurate for the majority of sex workers and negatively impacts sex workers ... • 32. Microbiology Of The Ancient Times Essay MICROBIOLOGY IN THE ANCIENT TIMES Gone are the days when the scientists used the Liquid media for the study of microorganisms and used to grow them in the laboratories. Above all, when they had to segregate the microorganisms to study and gather information on the individual growth pattern and characteristics, the liquid media was not useful at all. In 1881, Robert Koch used aseptically cut slices of the potato as a solid culture medium which was supplemented with gelatin which was poured and allowed to solidify. This Technique however helped them to identify the discrete colonies of the microorganisms. Gelatin did not solidify during the summer and therefore Dr. Hesse came up with the concept of using agar agar as the medium and this revolutionised the Microbiological Sciences. These methods however were very time consuming, difficult to study the discrete characteristics of the microorganisms and made it necessary to sub culture in the additional media. NEED OF THE HOUR For these reasons we need to develop approaches to the detection, quantification and identification of the microorganisms. This is especially important in the food manufacturing industries as a quality risk management. We need quick methods which can help in efficient monitoring of the manufacturing processes and also helps to ensure the proper state of control HACCP analysis therefore reducing the process variability and increasing the ... • 35. Masks And Figures In Picasso s Guernica By Pablo Picasso In the painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso, the artist uses abstract shapes and figures to represent the horrors of war. The work is a large mural painted in oils and the colors used are variations of black and white. By using these dark somber colors instead of bright vibrant colors, Picasso shows that Guernica is not a painting that is supposed to be visually pleasing but instead is supposed to present a message. Certain shades of grey in the painting look like that of an old printed newspaper and almost make the work seem like it is a picture you might see on the front page. Picasso uses shape quite a bit and the painting seems to be centered on a triangular shape that draws the eye upwards and to the center to the eyeball. This eyeball, with an iris made out of a lightbulb, looks to be casting a light down upon all of the carnage. The jumble of human limbs, geometric shapes, and animal heads are given emphasis because they appear to rest atop a solid black background. There are quite a few figures in this piece and the overall movement in it is chaotic. Certain figures are given emphasis because of their size, such as the woman holding the candlestick, the bull s head, and the crying woman holding her child. Guernica was named after a village in Picasso s home country that was bombed for two days straight during the Spanish Civil War. This painting was his response to the tragedy. It was largely overlooked when it was first unveiled because of the abstract nature of its composition but is now seen as famous representation of the devastating effects of war on innocent people. Francisco Goya s The Disasters of War, No. 18: Bury Them and Say Nothing is an etching with aquatint. It is also in black and white and features another gruesome image of war. It is smaller in scale than Guernica, but it s realistic depiction of a pile of dead bodies lying on the ground make it a powerful image. The dark black ink used to cover the ground beneath them emphasizes the bodies and draws the viewers eye to them. Standing just above the bodies to the right are two figures that appear to be mourning the dead lying before them. • 37. The Effect Of Heat Engines On Energy Essay An engine is a device, which transforms one form of energy into another form. While transforming energy from one form to another, the efficiency of conversion plays an important role. Normally, most of the engines convert thermal energy into mechanical work and therefore they are called heat engines . Heat engine is a device that transforms the chemical energy of a fuel into thermal energy and utilizes this thermal energy to perform useful work. Thus, thermal energy is converted to mechanical energy in a heat engine. Fuel economy of engines is greatly improved from the past and probably continued to be improved, increased in number of automobiles alone dictate that there will be a great demand for fuel in the near future. Alternative fuel technology, availability, and use must and will become more common in the coming decades. However, the use of an alternative fuel decreases the break thermal efficiency of engines, due to lower calorific values compared to normal petrol fuel. Also due to the high cost of petroleum products, some countries are developing and trying to use alternative fuels for vehicles. Internal combustion engines are established as the main power source for the automobile vehicles. At present emission norms become strict for any IC engine. • 41. The Trolley Problem Of The Monist Judith Jarvis Thomson presents an ethical dilemma entitled The Trolley Problem in The Monist. The problem describes a situation in which a trolley car is moving quickly and out of control on a train track towards five people who are tied to the tracks; you have the power to pull a lever, change the direction of the trolley car and save those five people at the expense of the life of one person who is on the track the car was diverted to (Thomson 1397). The choice to be made is not just about whether or not one should pull the lever though. The problem dictates a choice about whether one would kill, in the case of choosing to pull the lever to kill the one person and save the five, or letting die, in which case nothing is done and the five are killed because of the lack of action taken (Thomson 1398). Thomson believes it would be incorrect to turn the trolley and willingly choose to kill one person, rather than allow the five to die, but the philosophies of Immanuel Kant and John Stewart Mill must be analyzed to determine whether they would agree with Thomson, or have a different view from Thomson as well as one another. When considering J.J. Thomson s Trolley Problem, the philosophies of Kant and Mill must be fully analyzed and expressed to determine the most plausible perspective to be taken by both philosophers on the issue.
