Modern Romance Literature Review
Aziz Ansari s and his co author leading sociologist Eric Klinenberg (2015) book of Modern
Romance is a depiction of shifts from traditional values and social norms. Encapsulating, how
romance has become thrillingly liberated, yet complicated and distorted within a digital world of
dating in the 21st century. Aziz Ansari apart from his unique perspective as a successful comedian
observed many difficulties experienced both by his audiences and through his own subjective
experiences within the dating scene. Through conducting focus groups and interviews (Ansari and
Klinenberg, 2015: 7) outlining it was not just an individualistic problem but a societal issue. By
comparing that to his parent s generation, and other countries, signify cultural changes that are both
global and historical. Effectively, enlisting various experts including eminent sociologists,
anthropologists, psychologists, and journalists, who have dedicated their careers to studying
Modern Romance (Ansari and Klinenberg, 2015: 7). Highlighting the changes in personal and
public perceptions not only in how we meet potential partners but the shifts in expectations of what
is essential from a partner. This review will incorporate the study of C. Wright Mills(1959),
perspective on the sociological imagination and would he define Modern Romance as a good piece
of sociology?

Propaganda In Casablanca
A reading of Casablanca beyond it s pretense of being an old Hollywood romance is the
interpretation of the film as a piece of American or Allied propaganda during its time of release.
Present day, the word propaganda gets a bad reputation, and many consider it a form of
manipulation that doesn t belong in art, however, it is of my belief that, seeing as all art contains
a message that it wishes to convey to its audience, all art is, in some form, political or supports
some school of thought or ideology. For clarity, I will define my use of the word propaganda to
mean the dissemination of information in favor of an ideology or cause, for the means of garnering
sympathy towards the cause and validating the emotions of sympathizers. The transformation

Compare And Contrast Kathleen Dolmatch And Twins By E. B...
Nature and Mankind, they have been living side by side for thousands of years. As the human
population grows and the demand for more land grows, however, the amount left for nature is
perpetually plummeting, making the boundaries between the two are become increasingly
important as more time passes. Divide by Kathleen Dolmatch and Twins by E. B. White both
describe and deal with this most paramount problem. Each work helps to illustrate the necessity of
preserving nature by revealing the beauty and innocence found in some of the few refuges for
nature left in New York City. These two artists are both effective in conveying their messages
through their chosen mediums; employing similar and different rhetorical strategies in their
works. Divide is a picture consisting of three major elements. The first on the left side, is part of
Central Park in autumn. There are patches of green grass, deciduous trees beginning to turn
shades of red, orange, and yellow, a small lake or pond near the bottom left, and a few paths as well
as a golf course within the section. In the middle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White emphasize the importance of nature through describing its beauty and contrasting it with
humans and their world. Each work vividly describes the issue with the thoughts they evoke,
images they create, and they employ various rhetorical strategies to convey their points. Both works
use juxtaposition and irony to help illustrate the difference between man and nature, and both use
techniques to overcome the limitations of their mediums. These two works are both highly
effective in conveying their messages and help to bring the issue of nature s presentation into the
light. Nature contains endless beauty; a beauty that both works display and both artists wish to
preserve. Though created by different artists under different circumstances, these works are united

Cardiac Nursing Essay
Today s undergraduate nursing student tend to learn the best through active learning (Montenery et
al., 2013). Undergraduate nursing student learn from a variety of technologic devices such as
mannequins, computer games, reading books online, and videos. University students who are
learning cardiac nursing would benefit from technology driven learningdevices. Students who are
studying cardiac nursing would greatly benefit and improve their performance while studying in a
learning lab. Today there is many devices, and computer programs that could assist in teaching the
fundamentals of cardiac nursing. Many technology based equipment is available, the mannequin

Cardiac nursing classes should be taught using today s technology for the student s to best absorb
the material. The class should involve lecture, and additional learning should take place in a
learning lab. The learning lab would ideally include a mannequin that would be helpful in teaching
the students the anatomy of the heart, the sounds of the heart and correct placement of the
stethoscope as the students practice the assessment of the heart. The mannequin could also
potentially be used to simulate real life situations. The use of simulation activities has been helpful
in promoting critical thinking and clinical judgement skills in the students (Berndt et al., 2015).
The learning lab should also include videos that demonstrate the blood flow through the heart. In
addition the learning lab should include computer games, and or quizzes that would help the
student review the material. Another resource that may help in the learning process is the
interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard could be used for class discussions, and or
could be used to manipulate other resources for learning materials (Mastrian, McGonigle, Mahan,
Bixler, 2011).Although traditional lectures are used today s students learn best with the use of

The Contemporary Code Of Chivalry In Marie De France
Marie de France wrote a collection of poems during the high middle ages that reflect the
contemporary code of chivalry. Her poetry was classified as courtly love because it mostly
involved knights in adulterous relationships with noble ladies. Her collection of twelve poems
have themes of love, loyalty, etc. and how they relate to the codes of chivalry that serves as a
guide for how a knight should act in order to be honorable. The code of chivalry was created to
make warfare among European knights more pleasant. They would give each other time to prepare
for fights and treated knights they captured as guests that had to pay a ransom rather than prisoners.
Following these rules gave knights more honor, which they held in very high esteem. This code
included different values that should characterize a honorable knight. Another way to achieve this
honor was by dedicating themselves to a noble lady who they would serve with faithful adoration.
This concept was the subject of Marie de Frances courtly lovepoetry. De France uses characters to
highlight the values of chivalry in her poems. For example, in the poem Lanval the knight by the
same name demonstrates generosity and hospitality as well as loyalty to his lord king Arthur.
Arthur however is envious of him and does not grant him the land or wealth he has earned. Here,
Marie is painting the hero of the story Lanval, as a chivalrous character while depicting king Arthur
as failing to properly serve his subject and thus is

The Decent Society By Avishai Margalit
The Decent Society
Avishai Margalit begins his book with a definition of a decent society, which according to him is
such a society that does not institutionally humiliate its members and people in its orbit. In other
words, it is a society that does not violate the rights of people that are dependent on it. Regarding
institutions, he distinguished between their actual behaviour and the behaviour that they should
perform according to the law. Society is then defined as a nation. He admits that there are also
other forms of society but for the purpose of this book he will keep it as a nation because nation has
an especially great potential for institutional humiliation.
A decent society is further compared with a civilized society. Civilized society is defined as one
whose members do not humiliate one another, while a decent society is one in which the
institutions do not humiliate its members. The main difference is that regarding the concept of a
just society we speak about the relationship that individuals have with each other unlike regarding a
decent society we consider the relationship between people and their institutions and therefore we
speak about the setup of the society as a whole.
The book and then addresses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important comparison is between a decent society and a just society. Every just society
must be a decent one but the opposite does not apply. Only a society with notion of rights can have
a concept of self respect. A decent society is one that does not violate the rights of people dependent
on it. The question is which rights have to be honoured by an institution of a society for it to be
considered a decent one? The violation of which rights provides a sufficient condition for
humiliation? The answer is that it is a minimal condition for people s freedom of action, without
which they could not be considered moral agents. Human rights are symptoms for identifying

Essay The Art of Maya Lin
Maya Lin is a driven and innovative artist of our time. Many of her works have been seen as
controversial and received harsh criticism. She manages to trudge on. Her works express both
an artistic and mathematical feel, somehow finding a beautiful marriage between. Her obsession
with art and knowledge can be greatly attributed to her parents, as she was very successful at an
early age. Her art career is one of many triumphs and breaking boundaries in the art world. Lin has
a great love for nature, and many of her pieces help to express the significance of this, and she
loves to enthrall the audience. Maya Linwas born on October 5th, 1959 in... Show more content on

believed her simple black wall with listed names was a black wall of shame (Ergas 265) and
insulting to the traditional idea of white marble and statues of soldiers the veterans had

not been an issue for Lin before this time. Even Ross Pero after finding out she was asian was
heard to call her an egg roll. Lin feels if her lineage had been known at the time of the contest she
never would have won. This criticism almost caused Lin to exit the world of art forever, if it hadn

visitors found closure and rejoice in finding there loved ones names and leaving flowers. The

Personal Values Of Art
Art History 3.6
Values such as personal, symbolic, religious and iconic can be shown in these three major artworks,
Christian Boltanski s 2010 s artwork Personnes , Damien Hirst s 2007 s artwork For the Love of
God and Jeff Koons s 1994 2010 s artwork Balloon Dog/Balloon Rabbit .
Christian Boltanski s Personnes reflects personal values as he believed that art raises many
questions and fulfilling emotions but there s no answer to neither of them. He assumes that death is
unpredictable, chance is watching every human life as they live on their life. His intention is to
allow each viewer to observe these compiled clothes of mass graves and honouring the dead . He
created this artwork to reflect the personal values of each deceased personal experience and
commemorate the lives of others , to leave the human trace as they moved onto the afterlife.
Personal values is reflected on each part of the artwork such as the compiled pile of clothes
making up the whole artwork itself and form them as shrines of the deceased, creating a personal
effect on the viewer as well as communicating with them. Personal values are also reflected on not
just clothes but other people s belongings, as reminders that there was a time when they once wore
them and show sympathy and connect with them on a deeper level, as Laura Cumming, art critic
for The Observer states; this was an art that spoke so clearly and simply that a child could
understand it and so it is, to some extent, with

My Pen Writes In Blue And White By Vincent Cremona
In the last paragraph of the essay My Pen Writes in Blue and White , Vincent Cremona infers that,
through his childhood familiarity with blue collar and white collar working environments, he has
attained an expansive world view that enables him to sympathize with various cultural backgrounds
today. By enveloping this dual mindset of society, Cremona has developed an impartial writingstyle
capable of communicating with a wide variety of backgrounds effectively, whom, in his words,
is to see as either blue, or white, or some shade thereof (195) In other words, the author explains
that he can adopt either method of communication from blue collar and white collar societies
individually, or blend the two styles together. By doing so, Cremona harnesses the authoritative
terminology of white collar speech, while exhibiting the loud and brash nature of blue collar
speech in one format to help achieve the intended audience reaction. (196) This point is
demonstrated in the author s earlier example, where after filing a complaint to an airline while
utilizing this writing format, swift action was taken by the firm to compensate Cremona for his
trouble. Cremona s ability to persuade the airline was due, in part, to the author s ability to convey
emotion plainly and effectively through written words alone, thanks to his utilization of blue collar
speech; Cremona himself views this form of expression as basic, bold, and workman like [sic].

Geoffrey Chaucer s The Merchant s Tale
Geoffrey Chaucer s the Merchant s Tale tells the tale of a husband, a wife, and sexual deceit. A
narrative nearly identical to that in Chaucer s work can be found in the Bible. In the Tale, the
Merchant depicts the sexual interactions of men and women, whether between husband and wife
(i.e. Januarie and May) or adulterers (i.e. May and Damyan). Similarly, Genesis 2 and 3 of the
Bible focus on sexual interactions between husband and wife (i.e.. Adam and Eve) and adulterers
(i.e. Eve and the Serpent/tree of knowledge). These similarities are identified through the plot itself;
the characters names and actions; and various key words along with their respective connotations
and etymological backgrounds. These similarities are present... Show more content on

The origin of Eve s name simply comes from living one but corresponds to the connotation of
May s name. Like the month of May, May represents youthfulness and fertility providing a stark
contrast to her husband. Chaucer s choice for Damyan s name also holds a place in the
parallelism between the Merchant s Tale and Genesis. Damyan has held connotations in the
English language relating it to evil or demonic, lending it to comparison to the Serpent s
symbolism for the Devil. The overarching parallels between Januarie/Adam, May/Eve, and
Damyan/the Serpent are clearest in lines 2346 through 2367, in which May actually commits
adultery with Damyan. This same scene is reflected in Genesis, with the presentation of the tree
and the forbidden fruit (Genesis 2:16 17) and the Serpent s beguiling of Eve (Genesis 3:1 6).
More specifically, throughout the entire Tale but playing the most important role within lines
2346 2367, Chaucer uses key words to parallel the Bible as evident in his description of the garden.
The biblical allegation of the garden is derived from Genesis in which the Garden of Eden, an
earthly paradise, is presented as a haven for Adam and Eve where the original sin, a sexual sin, is
committed. The concept of the garden in the Merchant s Tale representing paradise can be traced
back to the Merchant s original description of marriage (and ultimately sex) as a paradys
(Merchant s Tale, 1265).

Junk Bond Investments And Its Effects On Investors And...
Though junk bonds do have undesirable impacts on investors and issuers, they do play a vital role
in American finance market and have left a great amount of enduring legacies. There are a number
of advantages that can fully demonstrate the importance and meaningfulness of junk bonds. Firstly,
junk bond investments offer consumer and companies a flexible financial instrument to achieve
maximum returns and increase interest payments. Milken, who took high yield bonds from a
cottage industry to one of the cornerstones of the financial industry, indicated that junk bond is a
better bet than higher grade bonds (Yago, 2003). In the current monetary environment with low
interest rate, junk bonds have served as one of the financial instruments offering a compelling
yield. Therefore, investors have an incentive to take risks in searching for higher returns. As
revealed in The Economist (2010), the issuance of junk bond had shown an increasing trend from
the $150 billion up to $1 trillion and that the revival is likely to be driven by an updated research
for junk bond by investors, people were disappointed with the poor returns on cash or treasuries.
This means that junk bond provides investors with a broader way to make their asset get the
maximum premiums. Secondly, junk bond can help enterprises, especially the small and medium
sized companies, be out of debt obligations. Indeed, many companies which are previously well
preformed in the business market run into financial

Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles Essay
Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles
In A Scandal in Bohemia, by Arthur Conan Doyle, society places women at an inferior level
pushing them to the background therefore never allowing us, the reader, to know them, except for
Irene Adler who shows the gender shift of the time period by becoming the main character in
Sherlock Holmes investigation and the story. A Scandal in Bohemia speaks about the famous
detective Sherlock Holmes and his adventure in retrieving a damaging photograph for a king from
his ex mistress. In the society Watson describes, the role of women is of little to no importance
except for emphasis that focused on the Kings mistress Irene Adler.

Rather than surrendering to the trickery of Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler outsmarts him using his
own tricks and makes her escape right under his nose. The narrowly defined roles of women were
evident for the only means to discuss women in this story is through their relations with men. No
woman, not even Irene Adler, has her own story. After all in the end, even Irene Adler runs away
with a man. Out of the five female characters mentioned or referred to in this story, only one is
given a name and a personality. This lack of female representation shows how dominant males
were in the society of the story and in the society of the real world.
Irene Adler exemplified the massive shifts in gender roles that were occurring during this time in
many ways other than becoming the main character in the story along with being feared of
having too much power by the men. Throughout the story there were many hidden examples of
how Irene Adler was the main character of how the roles of gender were changing drastically in
the period of this story. Adler is the character of changing gender roles which is revealed through
a division of female physiology and male psychology. The king remarks that she had the face of
the most beautiful women and the mind of the most resolute men . She also freely crosses gender
barriers by wearing men s clothing, confessing that male costume is nothing new to me. I often take
advantage of the freedom which it gives. Adler s active

The Elizabethan Era Essay
Significant, Magnificent, Excellent, there is honestly just too many words to describe the
amazing work of architecture during the Elizabethan Era. These buildings were built out of wood,
were decorated nicely, and were mostly built on hills in a village format. A common question
asked, What were these buildings made out of? Most of these buildings were Half Timbered.
Made up of mostly wood and had extremely large windows. The timbers that the architects used
were usually very tall and widely spaced out.( Alchin, 1) Individual s houses consisted of high

Most if not all, of the furniture was made of wood. These people used two specific types of wood.
The two types were Oak and Walnut Wood. In the Elizabethan Era wood was the most popular
building supply known to man.(Deason, 1) A good amount of flowers was used in decorating the
houses. Most of these homes and buildings had at least one big chandelier. It was shown as the
biggest decoration of all the ones inside of the house. The chandelier was in the most decorative
part of the house which was the gallery. The gallery was like a long hallway that was used for
entertainment and as a family area. A good amount of these homes had a big open living area
with a huge fireplace. The fireplaces in these homes would usually run the entire length of the
floor. (Deason, 1)If people could afford it, people would either start their home with brick or stone
floors. For those who could not afford brick or stone, they would have used wood for their floor.
The most common decorative motif was definitely Strapwork. Another big thing to do to your

had some nice things on the inside, especially the decorations. The decorations, combined in a
village format were something different. Beautiful and amazing are the words that describe these

Challenging Lutgendorf s Ideas within his Article through...
Intro: The discourse of film is a questionable field of study in its own respect. To say whether a
film is influence or not by another medium is a problematic area as there are many factors to
account for which can influence an artist s project. In Philip Lutgendorf s article, Is There An
Indian Way of Filmmaking? (2006), he attempts to suggest how texts from the Indian cultural
heritage could be used for the discourse of both Indian cinema as well as to the study of cinema
itself, which justifies discussion. This essay will attempt to challenge Lutgendorf s ideas within his
article through Hayao Miyazakis film, Spirited Away(2001) through the discussion of manga
/animae origin, Japanese mythology, and genre hybridity.
Plot Summary: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manga literally translates to informal drawings or impromptu sketches , and are the Japanese
equivalent to comic books. New Treasure Island featured many western influences such as the
use of big eyes, which is noticeable in Walt Disney s work. Ultimately, Tezuka laid the
foundations for modern manga. Because of manga s large popularity, it went onto the filmic
medium known as animae. Like manga and its early development, animae has had help in its
creative development. The large sum of aid in the growth of animae was western influences in
cartooning, such as Walt Disney, as well as literature from works from Lewis Carroll s Alice in
Wonderland (1865) and L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). Spirited Away
contains influences of both Alice in Wonderland as well as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz since
both Chihiro, Dorothy, and Alice are lost in a fantastical world which they know nothing about, and
face a female power hungry antagonist who attempts to stop their desire to go back home.
Para. 1: Referring back to the origins of manga and animae, these art forms were created to repress
the American influence over Japan through the revival of traditional Japanese art practices such as
woodblock paintings, and jojЕЌ ga literally translated to sentimental , or lyrical painting , which
was created by Yumeji Takehisa (1884 1934), and often depicted portrait paintings of Japanese

Tyrosinase Lab

The natural occurrence of tyrosinase within Agaricus bisporus makes it an incredibly viable
resource in both the food and drug industries. However, the likelihood that tyrosinase is evenly
distributed throughout the mushroom is very slim. In order to determine which specific tissues
contained the greatest concentration of Tyrosinase it became necessary to investigate the
localization of within the white button mushroom.
In order to observe the presence of tyrosinase within the various sections Agaricus bisporus it was
necessary to separate samples into specified regions. Below in Figure 1 is a diagram outlining the

amount of exposure compared to other sections like S2. Exposure is crucial in the functions of
tyrosinase because tyrosinase needs to be in the presence of molecular oxygen to undergo its
reactions. However, one discrepancy that arises from this theory is the specific activity of the
skin (K1). The skin is the most exposed portion so one would expect it to have the greatest
specific activity. While it does have a relatively high specific activity value it is easily
overshadowed by the specific activity of C2. This raises the question of whether the data collected

The s Defense Of Icons
In Defense of Icons
Throughout history The Church and a number of Christians including myself have found
themselves defending their use of icons against the views of individuals who felt that the icons
were a form of idolatry. These individuals also know as Iconoclasts have a staunch position against
the use of icons. Their position is based on interpretation of the Old Testamentlaw stated in Exodus
20:4 You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens
or on the earth or in the sea . Is this truly contrary to the Old Testament law or is it simply
preserving through time the incarnation of Christ, the Gospels and the history of the Christian
church? I will give you a brief history, and then offer my personal opinion to the subject. Let s
define what is an icon and give a brief history of icons. An icon is sacred art, usually a fresco or
mosaic of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, martyred Saints or scenes from the bible that are given
special veneration. This type of sacred art first appeared in the catacombs were the first Christians
would gather to worship during periods of persecution. The scenes depicted were of Christ s
family, gospel stories or stories from the Hebrew scriptures. As Christianitybegan to grow, and
after the Edict of Milan the Emperor Constantine decreed that Christians were no longer to be
persecuted. In response to this new decree, by the fourth century icons became a way of teaching

Tissue Engineering Research
By living in a broken world, people become subjected to devastation and times of hopelessness.
Some encounter this through job struggles or family disputes. Others encounter it while waiting
at death s door, waiting for an organ transplant. On January 8, 2014, 120,990 people were waiting
for an organ transplant, wondering if they will be added to the 3,381 people who died last year
waiting for a new kidneyor wondering if they will become one of the 26,000 people in the United
States who die each year from end stage liverdisease (Kaihara and Vacanti; National Kidney
Foundation). Every 20 minutes, a person is added to the kidney waitlist and each day, 14 people
die while waiting for a kidney transplant (National Kidney Foundation). These numbers cannot be
ignored because blindness only results in loss of life.
Currently, alternatives, such as mechanical devices and artificial prostheses, don t repair tissue or
organ functions because they are not intended for integrating host tissues, and if these alternatives
are used for long term implantation, the recipient could suffer from an inflammatory response
(Chapekar). For illnesses such as end stage liver disease, the only successful treatment is through
transplant, and the odds of receiving a new liver is improbable (Kaihara and Vacanti). Another
treatment must be discovered. In 1988, a NSF sponsored meeting defined a new treatment idea
called tissue engineering: the application of the principles and methods of engineering

Analysis Of The Toy Industry, Making The Threat Of New...
Analysis External Threat of New Entrants
There are many barriers to new organizations in the toy industry, making the threat of new entrants
low. Lego and other big toy companies like Mattel benefit from economies of scale. An economy of
scale is achieved by lower costs through large volume production (Textbook glossary). Economies
of scale can occur in many departments within the organization including production, marketing,
research and development, and finance. Some manufacturing of Lego products was shifted to
Central Europe and Mexico in order to benefit from lower wages and to shorten product supply
chains (p. 13 of case). The management of Lego additionally holds expertise on production,
distribution and customer needs; which are absent in a new organization. To enter the toy sector a
potential entrant needs to calculate the start of production at a level that will give a competitive
position and production costs lower than the market.
The high brand equity of Lego and other well established organizations offer another disadvantage
to new entrants. Collaborations with the film industry helped Lego sustain market share and
increase sales volume in the toy industry through franchise agreements on Harry Potter and Star
Wars. Rivalry among existing Firms
The competitive rivalry in the toy industry is intense. Organizations try to sell through their own
retailers and online instead of solely through other retailers. Flexibility and responsiveness to the

4.There are some important places with different settings. The first is the Clutters house in
Holcomb, Kansas. Capote describes it in the first paragraph of the book as a quiet place where
nothing much happens; The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas,
a lonesome area that other Kansans call out there.
Another place where the story leads us, is Mexico. The murderes Richard Hickock and Perry Smith
flee to Mexico to avoid being caught. Especially Smith has high expectations of the country,
expectations that are not based on reality and Mexico ends up being a disappointment.
Mexico is being described like one would expect. It is hot and sandy; A dusty road winding into and

They were found guilty for murder. And finally they were hung, for a murder and a robbery with a
profit of $50. The execution takes place at January the 14th; the Kansas Supreme Court decreed that
their lives must end between midnight and 2: 00 a. m., Wednesday, April 14, 1965.
The entire story took place between 1959 and 1965.
6.Hickock and Smith were the murderers, but Capote writes more about Smith, so he is
probably the main character. He had a rough childhood: his parents left him when he was only a
small child. It is even said that he has been abused by nuns. He also speaks about a dream he has
frequently. It is about a bird that will save him from this world and kill al the people that bullied
him during his childhood. It is because of these events and toughts you eventually feel sorry for
Smith. He does not seem to be a bloody killer, but rather a nice guy with bad luck. He is tiny and
big muscled (as seen on the picture).

Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson has influenced me most. Bryan Stevenson is a public interest

relief for dozens of condemned prisoners. The book reveals the astonishingly unjust criminal justice
system in the U.S. that perpetuates systemic racism and punishes those who suffer from poverty
and mental illness with the death penalty. Moreover, it also recounts how Stevenson navigated a
way to help the poor and the incarcerated find justice, healing and hope to rebuild their lives.

When someone refers a tattoo by a body art, I know that they somewhat either have some

common from what I can see. Two men were talking behind where I was sitting, taking notes,
minding my own business. I happen to have ears that love to be curious so I didn t control what
I heard and what I didn t. The conversation was around two adults about one of their teenager, don

wondering who had tattoos and who didn t... Surprise, surprise, the one that said body arts had
two sleeves while the other didn t have any visible ones. Before I had tattoos myself, I didn t pay

French Horn Evaluation
Late Bloomer
A good word to describe the first sound that came out of my French horn could be called a
screech. When I first looked at the instrument I originally thought the bell faced upward in the air.
You would never believe that only two years later I was able to sight read pieces of music and
preform them in a matter of an hour during a workshop at Disney world. The quick improvement
that I made in my music ability showed my natural tenacity and persistence.
Growing up I was always around musicians, and music interested me, but I was always steered
towards more academics. I finally got into music in High School. It made me rather nervous
because here I was sitting in a room with people who basically played instruments and sung
within the womb, and I was unable to even read music. So at first I asked my friends who were
all music aficionados. Every second thing that came out of my mouth was a question about
music. What was tone? How do I play a scale? What is moderato? And how on earth was I going
to catch up to these kids? So especially in band I took control and I took my French horn home

According to Acton (2013), if there are too few data points, the model will have insufficient data
to perform a robust analysis and the predictions will be inaccurate and largely influenced by
random factors. Supporting this notion, other research contradicts the prediction that Annual
Dinners held later in the week will generate more money. Network for Good (2006) found that
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays are the days when donors are most generous. This finding is
supported by Chaffey (2013), who suggests that Tuesdays are the best days for marketing causes,
and reinforced by the #GivingTuesday movement, a global day dedicated to giving back, started in
partnership between New York s 92 Street Y and the United Nations Foundation (Giving Tuesday,
2014). Therefore, despite the current research findings, other research indicates that planning events
earlier in the week will lead to greater fundraising success.
Research questions two and three found a strong positive correlation between the total amount of
financial gifts pledged and both the number of guests in attendance and the number of donors. The
number of donors likely increases as the number of guests increases, possibly due to competitive or
audience effects. Triplett (1989) found that competition was sparked not only by the co action of
other competitors, but also by an audience effect,

Kant s Theory Of Doubt
DOUBT AND CERTAINTY: A PHILOSOPHICAL RELATIONSHIP OF THE TWO
PARADOXICAL NOTIONS
I.INTRODUCTION
It is a human nature to be somewhat terrified to the unknown. However, the world is a giant
conglomerate of doubt. An extensive analysis is subjected to an extensive doubt. On the other
hand, humans continuously seek for certainty regarding a specific situation. We want to be certain
and aware on what is coming, in order to be prepared and fully know the truths. However, is it
possible for humans to achieve certainty with everything? What would the world be like if humans
do not have any hint of doubt?
The avenue of philosophy is primarily about addressing the fundamental questions regarding reality,
existence and truth in order to fulfil one s curiosity. Philosophizing is asking the right questions to
come up with the right answers. Relevantly, the feeling of doubt impels man to ask philosophical ...

EXPOSITION OF THE TWO NOTIONS
A.Understanding Doubt
Doubt is generally defined as a state of mind; some would say an affliction of the mind. It refers
to a condition in which one is unable or unwilling to accept, on the face of it, a given statement as
true. 1 When we say we are in doubt, what we mean is that we are not altogether certain about the
correctness of a proposition, the reliability of a person or even the existence of something.
Not all doubts are created equal. Doubt in its various forms exists. One of these is in the form of
quotidian doubt which is pertains to suspecting that the proponent of a proposition is most probably
not telling the truth, and at the same time, may even have reason to do so. For instance, when a
very probable suspect who is questioned by the police asserts that he is truly innocent, one may not
accept the statement as absolutely true.
Additionally, if a doctor were to tell a close relative of a seriously ill patient that there is a very
good chance of recovery, one may have some doubts about what the physician

Trade Policy for the New President: Concerning Immigration In the recent decades, member
countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have seen rapid
growth in the foreign born population which has stimulated research on the socio economic impacts
of immigration. There has been great amounts of research done to produce literature like that of
Gould (1994) that propose that immigration has proven statistically to have a significant positive
impact on international trade. Considering President Elect Donald Trump s views on the issue of
immigration and its economic impacts are rather poor, it is imperative to present evidence of the
positive result of immigration will benefit the United States rather than cost it. The early rhetoric of
the election displayed rather ill intentions toward the growing foreign born population that is
continually entering the United States; however the increased immigration theoretically will, apart
from its impact on the labor market in the host country, have positive effects on the increase of trade
between immigrants host and home countries. Within the pioneering studies of Gould (1994), links
have been made that immigrants affect both imports and exports for the United States. It is
suggested in Gould s reports that immigration, specifically immigration induced population growth,
increases both aggregate demand and output. Therefore, the demand for imports

Was Disney Justified In The Film Moana
Lately, three articles were reviewed for the film, Moana, depicting whether Disney was being
stereotypical and insensitive to the Polynesian culture. Many people think that Disney was wrong
in the depiction of the character s appearances, especially relating to the demigod character, Maui.
Disney was justified in creating the Moana filmand was not culturally insensitive to the Polynesian
people because Disney had spent 5 years just getting the characters correct by Polynesian standard,
they also looked far and hard in order to get Polynesian voice actors and songwriters, and finally,
the Disney team took the time out of their lives in order to make the setting of the movie as

Article 3 states, Clements and Musker have been making trips to the Pacific Islands including
Samoa, Tahiti, Mo orea, and Fiji. Over time they created a coalition of anthropologists,
historians, choreographers, musicians, and linguists called the Oceanic Trust. Together, this
group helped to shape Moana and keep the writing and design as authentic as possible.
Moreover, this evidence shows Disney had taken in a lot of accounts to get the setting of Moana
very similar to what Polynesian islands would look like. To add onto, the team took time out of
their lives just to go visit these foreign places, to make sure that their movie was perfect. The team
working on the Moana film not only accomplished their setting, but was able to get the Polynesian
setting so well that they even wowed the Polynesian people working on the movie. In article 1 it
states, They are making a film inspired by my culture, the culture I had lived every day of my life

explains that Disney was able to get the reaction that they wanted from a Polynesian audience.
Furthermore, Disney was justified in the creation of this movie because it was said by a
Polynesian person Am I still grounded and rooted in the way I want to be? And I can honestly
say I am and this is relating back to the fact that the movie was able to ground her in her culture.
To put into finality, Disney was justified in the creation of the film, Moana because of use of the

Essay on Disney s Medievalesque Sleeping Beauty
Disney s Medievalesque Sleeping Beauty
It was not once upon a time, but in a certain time in history, before anyone knew what was
happening, Walt Disney cast a spell on the fairy tale. He did not use a magic wand or demonic
powers. On the contrary, Disney employed the most up to date technological means and used his
own American grit and ingenuity to appropriate European fairy tales. His technical skills and
ideological proclivities were so consummate that his signature obfuscated the names of Charles
Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, and Collodi. If children or adults think of
the great classical fairy tales today, be it Snow White, SleepingBeauty, or Cinderella, they will

Imperialist Ideology in the Disney Comic, Disney s animated fairy tales, especially the earlier

economic messages they implicitly convey to their audience. In a paper of this size I neither
wish to criticize scholars for neglecting this area, nor do I hope to remedy this problem in one

animation in order to incorporate the medieval into his adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, as well as
the very pointed anachronistic exceptions it makes to this medievalesque trend. I will then analyze
how these particular implementations of the medieval, as well as the exceptions, serve to create a

Morally Ambiguous Characters in Fyodor Dostoevsky s Crime...
Often times in literature, we are presented with quintessential characters that are all placed into
the conventional categories of either good or bad. In these pieces, we are usually able to
differentiate the characters and discover their true intentions from reading only a few chapters.
However, in some remarkable pieces of work, authors create characters that are so realistic and so
complex that we are unable to distinguish them as purely good or evil. In the novel Crime and
Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky develops the morally ambiguous characters of Raskolnikov and
Svidrigailov to provide us with an interesting read and to give us a chance to evaluate each
character. Svidrigailov is one of the most unfathomable characters in Crime... Show more content on

Being the protagonist in Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov is subject to most ridicule and
analysis for his moral ambiguity and outlandish views. After reading about his dreadful murder
of Alyona and Lizaveta Ivanovna, many come to the conclusion that Raskolnikov is purely evil.
His lack of guilt and belief of justification for his crime surely points readers in this direction.
Raskolnikov remains convinced that he is superior and that it was his duty to kill such a
worthless person. Although some may view this as evilness, others may perceive it as
downright ignorant. His atypical way of thinking doesn t necessarily make him evil, but that is
how some comprehend it. At certain points in the story, we see Raskolnikov not as a deranged
man, but instead as a compassionate human being. After the murder, we see him carrying out
various charitable acts, perhaps as an attempt to atone for his unforgivable crime. For example,
we see some good in him when he gives Sonya s family twenty rubbles after Marmeladov passes
on. We also see this when he attempts to rescue a drunk girl from a man by giving her money for
a taxi. As much as Raskolnikov expresses that he was justified in his actions, through his mental
and physical illnesses it is apparent that he feels some guilt about it. This guilt makes him seem at
least a little bit more human. For these reasons, when all is said and done, it is difficult to determine

Speech On Honesty
I am honest. I do the right thing. I have wise discernment. I am knowledgeable of the truth. Who

and I choose to make the right choice and not get caught up with my friends Indiscretion and
Immoral. My true friends keep me on track and make sure that I do the right thing. They have
told me that I have the scent of fresh clothes, they notice me as clean. They say they hear kind
and positive words from me. If they could eat me, they say I would have the taste of a just baked
funnel cake from the fair. My friends say they see me doing positive actions when I do not know
that they are watching. I give thanks for my friends Honesty, Discernment, and Good Character.

A Great Golf Course Essay
What Makes a Great Golf Course?
When it comes to a golf course, there are people who will love it and people who will hate it.
Even if you do not realize it, there is often a lot of planning that goes into the creation of a golf
course. The best courses available are constantly changing to ensure that players remain challenged
even after many years of visiting the same course. Think about your most favorite golf course for a
moment. What makes it great in your opinion? Have you met others who share the same thoughts
or do they have a different idea of what makes a great golf course?
There are some people who love a particular golf course because of the clubhouse experience when
they arrive or after they are finished playing their round of

Student Self-Assessment Reflection
Chelsie Vogel
Student Self Assessment Reflection
When creating a self assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self assessment that would
be clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self
assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards reading
, discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self reflection of their learning. The
student was asked to circle thumbs up (always), thumbs middle (sometimes), and thumbs down
(not yet). I prefer using the term not yet because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress versus a
failure. After allowing the student to complete the self assessment privately, I was able to sit down
with them, take notes, and have a mini conference to dive deeper into their responses.
For the statements, I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important, Student N circled
thumbs up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading.
Student N also circled a thumbs up for the statement, I enjoy reading at home. I asked the student
if they read a lot at home and they responded with, I don t really read a lot at home. I like video
games and watching TV. I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they
liked about it. Student N talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By
their response, I could tell that they preferred reading at home when It involved another family
member versus reading on their own. The student also gave thumbs up responses to I think I m a
good reader and I don t have a problem finding books to read. Student N seems confident in their
reading and is aware of what they enjoy reading.
Student N gave a thumbs middle for I am comfortable reading aloud in class. I shared with him
that even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also
shared that sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This
will help me build our classroom culture and reflect on how we respect and respond to peers when
they are reading or if they make a mistake. I want all students to feel comfortable practicing their
reading

A Republican Analysis
In the United States of America there is a plethora of extravagant political parties with which one
can associate. Obviously, due to the nature of the scholarship at hand, the reader of this written
work is a Republican. Is there any thought ever given to the immensity of the political spectrum?
There is left and right, up and down, libertarians, authoritarians, liberals, conservatives, socialists,
communists, neo libertarians, paleoconservatives, fascists, or one could be completely neutral.
Still, no matter how hard we try to avoid it, in the United Statesof America, one is always drawn to
one side, left or right, while little attention is ever given to the north or south poles of the spectrum.

We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal... (Declaration) and ...which
shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to
Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.
(Constitution section 2) are two contradictory statements. One describes how every person, no
matter their color, religion or sex, is the same as everyone else and should be treated that way.
The other says that all people, unless they are Indians or enslaved (generally blacks), are the
same. How can the morals of a country change so drastically over just eleven short years?
Possibly the largest irony of the entire situation has to be that we, the people of the United States
of America, wanted isolation from the European rule that was oppressing our citizens, rule
comprised of taxes and misrepresentation, if there was any representation at all, when the
constitution describes in section eight, The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect
Taxes... If the sole purpose of the renunciation of our country from the British Empire was to
escape the tyrannical oppression laid upon us by these taxes and unjustified usurpation of our
hard earned money, then it is enigmatically dumbfounding and inexcusable in all ways for our
government to confiscate that same money in the same fashion as the autocrat before them. It is
quite easy to become adrift in the cunning style of writing used in the constitution, but
impermissible for a federalist writer of that document to be able to properly bless it with the
same signature as the same declaration eleven years prior. The ideals described in the Declaration
of Independence revolve around the idea of the pursuit of happiness. Happiness of the people of a
nation should be the number one priority of a government, and if hard earned money made by

Comparing Kimmel Center And The Hard Rock Cafe
McDonaldization effects all aspects of today s society even the venues we often overlook. Two
examples of some commonly overlooked McDonaldized venues are the Kimmel Center and the
Hard Rock Cafe. Both of these venues emphasize the McDonald elements of success according to
George Ritzer: efficiency, Calculability, predictability, and control. (14, Ritzer). Although these
places may feel like a luxurious break from the everyday fast foodtrip, they are not all that much
different.
The Kimmel Center demonstrates its efficiency in the way it is set up. Thoughtful procedures
have been put in place to cut down on human interaction a do it yourself environment. For
example, ropes indicate where you can and cannot go in order to avoid any mishaps. Employees
sit and wait for you to come up and ask them a question (ropes form a maze in front of them as
well, to indicate the way in which a line must be formed). Giant signs signify which rooms are

Several people stand by as they are in the process of creating the piece. Seemingly anyone can
wander in and take a peak. Black ropes block off the construction area and people gather around
to watch the structure being built. My personal experience at the Kimmel Center was less than
exciting. I walked in and immediately felt like I shouldn t be there. I took a few pictures as I
looked around in order for me to be able to better describe the look of the place. One of the men
who was watching the sculpture kept peering over at me as if I was doing something wrong (I
even have a picture of him giving he a snide look). No one greeted me or even looked my way
(besides for that one guy). The sculpture was exciting to watch, though... that was definitely the
highlight of my first experience at the Kimmel Center. My next trip to the famous Hard Rock

Servant Leadership By James C. Hunter s The Servant
Servant Leadership and its Application to Nursing Practice
The basis of the servant leadership theory is that in order to be a good leader; one must be a
servant, first (Hunter, 1998). Although, the concept of servant leadership can be applied to any
field, many nurses identify with the servant leadership style the most. James C. Hunter s book,
The Servant, portrays a difficult journey of understanding this concept, while also addressing many
of the main components of servant leadership. In this paper, I will discuss the concept of servant
leadership and how reading about this concept has helped me reach my goals to become a
knowledgeable and professional nurse.
Definitions and Background
The term, servant leadership was first coined in 1970 by Robert K. Greenleaf (Marquis Huston,
2015). The concept was introduced in Greenleaf s essay, The Servant as Leader (Greenleaf,
1991). In Greenleaf s essay he mentions that a servant leader focuses on the growth, as well as the
wellbeing of the people and the communities that they belong in (Greenleaf, 1991). A servant
leader helps others work at their best, which I believe results in authority for the servant leader.
Hunter s book mentions this when a student discovers that the right to be called a leader starts out
with having the proper will. With the proper will, comes the decision to love others (Hunter, 1998).
He defines loving others as the ability to meeting the needs of the subordinate, this leads to

Importance Of Faith In Doctor Faustus
Mankind has always struggled with faith, and it always will. The human mind is not easily
persuaded to blindly believe, and the concept of God or gods, since their conception, has always
relied upon belief. The importance of faith in relation to one s God was extremely relevant when
Christopher Marlowe composed Doctor Faustus in the 16th century, for the waning influence of the
Catholic Church and the general dispersion of religionhad caused a drop in religious fidelity. In his
tragedy Doctor Faustus , Marlowe shows the main character denying opportunities to repent not
because of ignorance, but because of an inability to fully trust in a benevolent divinity, even in a
circumstance where man does not question the existence of heaven or hell. Faustus inability to trust
Godstems from his connection with evil, and Marlowe uses Doctor Faustus thirst for knowledge
and power as the primary reason for his gravitation towards and consequent trust of Satan. In the
beginning of the the story, Dr. Faustus seeks to become all powerful and all knowledgeable,
rivaling the omnipotence of God. To achieve such a world of profit and delight/Of power, of honor
and omnipotence, (1.52 53) Faustus indulges himself in the realm of dark arts, studying
metaphysics of magicians/And necromantic books that promise to enlighten him with
extraordinary capabilities. It is the darkness ability to answer Faustus desires in the now that gains
his trust, for Faustus is not interested in serving a God that seemingly does nothing for him. This is
further illustrated when Faustus proclaims, To God? He loves thee not/The God thou serv st is
thine own appetite (5.11 12).The instant gratification of evil better resonates with Faustus, and
because he never sees God appease him in the way that darkness has, he trusts Satan more than God.
Marlowe has Doctor Faustus matriculate towards Satan in the novel s beginning because of the
perks of evil, and he never turns back. Faustus witnesses a supernatural event that seems to oppose
his binding deal with Satan, and although it does make him question his actions and think about
repenting, he ignores the event and continues to abandon his salvation. After deciding to pledge his
soul to

The George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is a 26 acre historical park in the Midwest
Regional Office located in Vincennes Indiana. Over the weekend of August 29th, 2015 my family
and I visited the George Rogers Clark Museum. My wife and I actually live very close to
Vincennes Indiana, as it is only a 25 minute drive and we frequently visit Vincennes for shopping
and dining. While we do visit this town about once a month, I do admit that I have never been or
paid a lot of attention to the memorial. The memorial itself is quite interesting to look at from afar
as you drive past it, but you can t really appreciate what it has to offer unless you take the time and
visit the site in person and really admire its history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The memorial itself is quite large and sits right on the Wabash River. The building itself is a
neoclassical granite rotunda with 16 Doric columns that circles a bronze sculpture of Colonel
Clark leaning on his sword. The words in scripted on the outer front reads: The Conquest of the
West George Rogers Clark and The Frontiersman of the American Revolution. The building itself
reminds me of the Donato Bramante, Tempietto. The columns represented in the Tempietto are also
Doric, with the top section being decorated as well, but the Tempietto is decorated with objects of
Christian liturgy in sculptural relief. The exterior of the building is made of granite that is from
Vermont, Minnesota; and some from Alabama. A large eagle stands over the entrance way with its
wings spread wide

Themes In Dead Poets Society
In the Dead Poet s Society the racial, class, and gender identities of the characters are singular.
The boys in the movie attend an all male boarding school in which all the students are Caucasian.
In addition, the boys seem to come from wealthy families that can afford to send their boys to such
a prestigious boarding school. This monolithic starting point provides an opportunity for issues to
develop as cracks in the conservative façade.
Mr. Perry, Neil s father claims to come from a lower class upbringing and is obsessed with giving
his son opportunities that cost money such as medical school, Harvard, and the Welton Academy.
Mr. Perry s behavior, along with the conservative Academy and its repressive headmaster, echo and
the documentary of the McLean(VA) high schoolviewed in class. The documentary illustrated the
differences between a wealthy and poorer school. Taken together, these sources lead me to
believe that there is an enormous emphasis placed on class and wealth by the characters in the
movie. The boys in the movie are privileged for their ease of access to great education. None of
the boys in the movie work for the school or have jobs to pay for their schooling at the prestigious
Welton Academy which prepares them intensely for the best colleges available.
The boys in the movie may be privileged but the older generation, represented by, Headmaster
Nolan, and Mr. Keating, seem to have the greatest power and influence of any characters in the
movie.

He may be silent but he has quite a big impact in the movie and especially at the end. I rated him
on the scale leaning more towards the slave morality way by giving him a four. He does not
demonstrate too many values until the final scene where he kills McMurphy. It shows that even
though he killed a man, he did it for the best interest of him. McMurphy would have laid there for
the rest of his life, not being able to think for himself or help others. If the other men saw what
happened to McMurphy they would have been discouraged and not found the push they needed to
be themselves. It shows a lot of sympathy on his side of the story to even muster up the courage to
murder. He has the good/bad intentions that are associated with the slave morality

Short Essay About The Tango
The tango is Argentina s national dance. The tango is a dance that defies description. It can be

Human Trafficking In Sex Trafficking
Sex Slavery is still recognized as the fastest growing illicit crime industry producing an estimated
twenty four billion dollar in profit; sex trafficking ranks third amongst illicit offenses. Sex slaver
serves as the face of modern day sex trafficking exploiting millions of women and children every
year within or across international borders. This illegal industry involves recruiting, transporting,
and receipt of children or adults solely for self exploitation. In other words, its seen as a
horrendous crime, an assault on freedom and human dignity. It is palpable that sex slaveryimpacts
all countries all over the world, although some countries experience greater levels compared to
others. Notwithstanding motives for sex trafficking are both multifaceted and interrelated. Higher
risk countries are those with fractured government s, vulnerability due to poverty, the absence of
sufficient protection against discrimination, and economic decline. Somalia, a country more
vulnerable to modern slavery, renders the perfect opportunity to assess how individuals in
searching for a better life ends up in the most unwanted predicament. This paper will examine the
meaning of sex slavery, how women and children become victims of such ghastly crimes, supplier,

Examples Of Honesty And Dishonesty
Honesty and loyalty are important parts of friendship and life in general. To take those nouns
even further you can use integrity. A very technical definition of integrity is adherence to moral
and ethical principles or the state of being whole. To me, integrity is being honest and truthful to
others and to yourself for a good cause. Integrity is a value that has to come from the heart. You
cannot fake or force honesty. School is the main place where your integrity is threatened.
Sometimes you just have to look at your friend s test or use your notebook during a quiz. You can t
help it sometimes if you don t study. No one can deny that they have cheated at least once during an
exam. Cheatingonce or twice on a test is usually forgivable and can virtually be repealed. Making
it a habit can be threatening to your mentality and your actions. If you are caught, you feel so poor

  • 3. Propaganda In Casablanca A reading of Casablanca beyond it s pretense of being an old Hollywood romance is the interpretation of the film as a piece of American or Allied propaganda during its time of release. Present day, the word propaganda gets a bad reputation, and many consider it a form of manipulation that doesn t belong in art, however, it is of my belief that, seeing as all art contains a message that it wishes to convey to its audience, all art is, in some form, political or supports some school of thought or ideology. For clarity, I will define my use of the word propaganda to mean the dissemination of information in favor of an ideology or cause, for the means of garnering sympathy towards the cause and validating the emotions of sympathizers. Divide by Kathleen Dolmatch and Twins by E. B. White both describe and deal with this most paramount problem. Each work helps to illustrate the necessity of preserving nature by revealing the beauty and innocence found in some of the few refuges for nature left in New York City. These two artists are both effective in conveying their messages through their chosen mediums; employing similar and different rhetorical strategies in their works. Divide is a picture consisting of three major elements. The first on the left side, is part of Central Park in autumn. • 6. The Contemporary Code Of Chivalry In Marie De France Marie de France wrote a collection of poems during the high middle ages that reflect the contemporary code of chivalry. Her poetry was classified as courtly love because it mostly involved knights in adulterous relationships with noble ladies. Her collection of twelve poems have themes of love, loyalty, etc. and how they relate to the codes of chivalry that serves as a guide for how a knight should act in order to be honorable. The code of chivalry was created to make warfare among European knights more pleasant. They would give each other time to prepare for fights and treated knights they captured as guests that had to pay a ransom rather than prisoners. Following these rules gave knights more honor, which they held in very high esteem. This code included different values that should characterize a honorable knight. Another way to achieve this honor was by dedicating themselves to a noble lady who they would serve with faithful adoration. This concept was the subject of Marie de Frances courtly lovepoetry. De France uses characters to highlight the values of chivalry in her poems. For example, in the poem Lanval the knight by the same name demonstrates generosity and hospitality as well as loyalty to his lord king Arthur. Arthur however is envious of him and does not grant him the land or wealth he has earned. Here, Marie is painting the hero of the story Lanval, as a chivalrous character while depicting king Arthur as failing to properly serve his subject and thus is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Decent Society By Avishai Margalit The Decent Society Avishai Margalit begins his book with a definition of a decent society, which according to him is such a society that does not institutionally humiliate its members and people in its orbit. In other words, it is a society that does not violate the rights of people that are dependent on it. Regarding institutions, he distinguished between their actual behaviour and the behaviour that they should perform according to the law. Society is then defined as a nation. He admits that there are also other forms of society but for the purpose of this book he will keep it as a nation because nation has an especially great potential for institutional humiliation. A decent society is further compared with a civilized society. Civilized society is defined as one whose members do not humiliate one another, while a decent society is one in which the institutions do not humiliate its members. The main difference is that regarding the concept of a just society we speak about the relationship that individuals have with each other unlike regarding a decent society we consider the relationship between people and their institutions and therefore we speak about the setup of the society as a whole. The question is which rights have to be honoured by an institution of a society for it to be considered a decent one? The violation of which rights provides a sufficient condition for humiliation? Her works express both an artistic and mathematical feel, somehow finding a beautiful marriage between. Her obsession with art and knowledge can be greatly attributed to her parents, as she was very successful at an early age. Her art career is one of many triumphs and breaking boundaries in the art world. The contest was to design the Vietnam Veterans Memorial , in Washington,D.C. She did extensive research for the wall on subjects ranging from cultural memorials through out history to soldiers journals from World War I. The completion of the wall turned out to be her breaking moment in the world of art. After creating her visionary Vietnam Veterans Memorial she suffered much controversy and criticism. Many Veterans believed her simple black wall with listed names was a black wall of shame (Ergas 265) and insulting to the traditional idea of white marble and statues of soldiers the veterans had expected. Critics even began using her asian background to discriminate against her, which had not been an issue for Lin before this time. Even Ross Pero after finding out she was asian was heard to call her an egg roll. Lin feels if her lineage had been known at the time of the contest she never would have won. This criticism almost caused Lin to exit the world of art forever, if it hadn t been for the immense impact the wall had on visitors and the sheer number of them. • 10. Personal Values Of Art Art History 3.6 Values such as personal, symbolic, religious and iconic can be shown in these three major artworks, Christian Boltanski s 2010 s artwork Personnes , Damien Hirst s 2007 s artwork For the Love of God and Jeff Koons s 1994 2010 s artwork Balloon Dog/Balloon Rabbit . Christian Boltanski s Personnes reflects personal values as he believed that art raises many questions and fulfilling emotions but there s no answer to neither of them. He assumes that death is unpredictable, chance is watching every human life as they live on their life. His intention is to allow each viewer to observe these compiled clothes of mass graves and honouring the dead . He created this artwork to reflect the personal values of each deceased personal experience and commemorate the lives of others , to leave the human trace as they moved onto the afterlife. Personal values is reflected on each part of the artwork such as the compiled pile of clothes making up the whole artwork itself and form them as shrines of the deceased, creating a personal effect on the viewer as well as communicating with them. Personal values are also reflected on not just clothes but other people s belongings, as reminders that there was a time when they once wore them and show sympathy and connect with them on a deeper level, as Laura Cumming, art critic for The Observer states; this was an art that spoke so clearly and simply that a child could understand it and so it is, to some extent, with ... • 11. My Pen Writes In Blue And White By Vincent Cremona In the last paragraph of the essay My Pen Writes in Blue and White , Vincent Cremona infers that, through his childhood familiarity with blue collar and white collar working environments, he has attained an expansive world view that enables him to sympathize with various cultural backgrounds today. By enveloping this dual mindset of society, Cremona has developed an impartial writingstyle capable of communicating with a wide variety of backgrounds effectively, whom, in his words, is to see as either blue, or white, or some shade thereof (195) In other words, the author explains that he can adopt either method of communication from blue collar and white collar societies individually, or blend the two styles together. By doing so, Cremona harnesses the authoritative terminology of white collar speech, while exhibiting the loud and brash nature of blue collar speech in one format to help achieve the intended audience reaction. (196) This point is demonstrated in the author s earlier example, where after filing a complaint to an airline while utilizing this writing format, swift action was taken by the firm to compensate Cremona for his trouble. Cremona s ability to persuade the airline was due, in part, to the author s ability to convey emotion plainly and effectively through written words alone, thanks to his utilization of blue collar speech; Cremona himself views this form of expression as basic, bold, and workman like [sic]. • 12. Geoffrey Chaucer s The Merchant s Tale Geoffrey Chaucer s the Merchant s Tale tells the tale of a husband, a wife, and sexual deceit. A narrative nearly identical to that in Chaucer s work can be found in the Bible. In the Tale, the Merchant depicts the sexual interactions of men and women, whether between husband and wife (i.e. Januarie and May) or adulterers (i.e. May and Damyan). Similarly, Genesis 2 and 3 of the Bible focus on sexual interactions between husband and wife (i.e.. Adam and Eve) and adulterers (i.e. Eve and the Serpent/tree of knowledge). These similarities are present... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The origin of Eve s name simply comes from living one but corresponds to the connotation of May s name. Like the month of May, May represents youthfulness and fertility providing a stark contrast to her husband. Chaucer s choice for Damyan s name also holds a place in the parallelism between the Merchant s Tale and Genesis. Damyan has held connotations in the English language relating it to evil or demonic, lending it to comparison to the Serpent s symbolism for the Devil. The overarching parallels between Januarie/Adam, May/Eve, and Damyan/the Serpent are clearest in lines 2346 through 2367, in which May actually commits adultery with Damyan. This same scene is reflected in Genesis, with the presentation of the tree and the forbidden fruit (Genesis 2:16 17) and the Serpent s beguiling of Eve (Genesis 3:1 6). More specifically, throughout the entire Tale but playing the most important role within lines 2346 2367, Chaucer uses key words to parallel the Bible as evident in his description of the garden. The biblical allegation of the garden is derived from Genesis in which the Garden of Eden, an earthly paradise, is presented as a haven for Adam and Eve where the original sin, a sexual sin, is committed. The concept of the garden in the Merchant s Tale representing paradise can be traced back to the Merchant s original description of marriage (and ultimately sex) as a paradys (Merchant s Tale, 1265). ... • 13. Junk Bond Investments And Its Effects On Investors And... Though junk bonds do have undesirable impacts on investors and issuers, they do play a vital role in American finance market and have left a great amount of enduring legacies. There are a number of advantages that can fully demonstrate the importance and meaningfulness of junk bonds. Firstly, junk bond investments offer consumer and companies a flexible financial instrument to achieve maximum returns and increase interest payments. Milken, who took high yield bonds from a cottage industry to one of the cornerstones of the financial industry, indicated that junk bond is a better bet than higher grade bonds (Yago, 2003). In the current monetary environment with low interest rate, junk bonds have served as one of the financial instruments offering a compelling yield. Therefore, investors have an incentive to take risks in searching for higher returns. As revealed in The Economist (2010), the issuance of junk bond had shown an increasing trend from the $150 billion up to $1 trillion and that the revival is likely to be driven by an updated research for junk bond by investors, people were disappointed with the poor returns on cash or treasuries. This means that junk bond provides investors with a broader way to make their asset get the maximum premiums. Secondly, junk bond can help enterprises, especially the small and medium sized companies, be out of debt obligations. Indeed, many companies which are previously well preformed in the business market run into financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles Essay Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles In A Scandal in Bohemia, by Arthur Conan Doyle, society places women at an inferior level pushing them to the background therefore never allowing us, the reader, to know them, except for Irene Adler who shows the gender shift of the time period by becoming the main character in Sherlock Holmes investigation and the story. A Scandal in Bohemia speaks about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his adventure in retrieving a damaging photograph for a king from his ex mistress. Rather than surrendering to the trickery of Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler outsmarts him using his own tricks and makes her escape right under his nose. The narrowly defined roles of women were evident for the only means to discuss women in this story is through their relations with men. No woman, not even Irene Adler, has her own story. After all in the end, even Irene Adler runs away with a man. Out of the five female characters mentioned or referred to in this story, only one is given a name and a personality. This lack of female representation shows how dominant males were in the society of the story and in the society of the real world. Irene Adler exemplified the massive shifts in gender roles that were occurring during this time in many ways other than becoming the main character in the story along with being feared of having too much power by the men. Throughout the story there were many hidden examples of how Irene Adler was the main character of how the roles of gender were changing drastically in the period of this story. Adler is the character of changing gender roles which is revealed through a division of female physiology and male psychology. The king remarks that she had the face of the most beautiful women and the mind of the most resolute men . To say whether a film is influence or not by another medium is a problematic area as there are many factors to account for which can influence an artist s project. In Philip Lutgendorf s article, Is There An Indian Way of Filmmaking? (2006), he attempts to suggest how texts from the Indian cultural heritage could be used for the discourse of both Indian cinema as well as to the study of cinema itself, which justifies discussion. This essay will attempt to challenge Lutgendorf s ideas within his article through Hayao Miyazakis film, Spirited Away(2001) through the discussion of manga /animae origin, Japanese mythology, and genre hybridity. Plot Summary: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manga literally translates to informal drawings or impromptu sketches , and are the Japanese equivalent to comic books. New Treasure Island featured many western influences such as the use of big eyes, which is noticeable in Walt Disney s work. Ultimately, Tezuka laid the foundations for modern manga. Because of manga s large popularity, it went onto the filmic medium known as animae. Like manga and its early development, animae has had help in its creative development. The large sum of aid in the growth of animae was western influences in cartooning, such as Walt Disney, as well as literature from works from Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland (1865) and L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). Spirited Away contains influences of both Alice in Wonderland as well as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz since both Chihiro, Dorothy, and Alice are lost in a fantastical world which they know nothing about, and face a female power hungry antagonist who attempts to stop their desire to go back home. Para. 1: Referring back to the origins of manga and animae, these art forms were created to repress the American influence over Japan through the revival of traditional Japanese art practices such as woodblock paintings, and jojЕЌ ga literally translated to sentimental , or lyrical painting , which was created by Yumeji Takehisa (1884 1934), and often depicted portrait paintings of Japanese women. The s Defense Of Icons In Defense of Icons Throughout history The Church and a number of Christians including myself have found themselves defending their use of icons against the views of individuals who felt that the icons were a form of idolatry. These individuals also know as Iconoclasts have a staunch position against the use of icons. Their position is based on interpretation of the Old Testamentlaw stated in Exodus 20:4 You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea . Is this truly contrary to the Old Testament law or is it simply preserving through time the incarnation of Christ, the Gospels and the history of the Christian church? I will give you a brief history, and then offer my personal opinion to the subject. Let s define what is an icon and give a brief history of icons. An icon is sacred art, usually a fresco or mosaic of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, martyred Saints or scenes from the bible that are given special veneration. This type of sacred art first appeared in the catacombs were the first Christians would gather to worship during periods of persecution. The scenes depicted were of Christ s family, gospel stories or stories from the Hebrew scriptures. Analysis External Threat of New Entrants There are many barriers to new organizations in the toy industry, making the threat of new entrants low. Lego and other big toy companies like Mattel benefit from economies of scale. An economy of scale is achieved by lower costs through large volume production (Textbook glossary). Economies of scale can occur in many departments within the organization including production, marketing, research and development, and finance. Some manufacturing of Lego products was shifted to Central Europe and Mexico in order to benefit from lower wages and to shorten product supply chains (p. 13 of case). The management of Lego additionally holds expertise on production, distribution and customer needs; which are absent in a new organization. To enter the toy sector a potential entrant needs to calculate the start of production at a level that will give a competitive position and production costs lower than the market. The high brand equity of Lego and other well established organizations offer another disadvantage to new entrants. Collaborations with the film industry helped Lego sustain market share and increase sales volume in the toy industry through franchise agreements on Harry Potter and Star Wars. However, the world is a giant conglomerate of doubt. An extensive analysis is subjected to an extensive doubt. On the other hand, humans continuously seek for certainty regarding a specific situation. We want to be certain and aware on what is coming, in order to be prepared and fully know the truths. However, is it possible for humans to achieve certainty with everything? What would the world be like if humans do not have any hint of doubt? The avenue of philosophy is primarily about addressing the fundamental questions regarding reality, existence and truth in order to fulfil one s curiosity. EXPOSITION OF THE TWO NOTIONS A.Understanding Doubt Doubt is generally defined as a state of mind; some would say an affliction of the mind. It refers to a condition in which one is unable or unwilling to accept, on the face of it, a given statement as true. 1 When we say we are in doubt, what we mean is that we are not altogether certain about the correctness of a proposition, the reliability of a person or even the existence of something. Not all doubts are created equal. Doubt in its various forms exists. One of these is in the form of quotidian doubt which is pertains to suspecting that the proponent of a proposition is most probably not telling the truth, and at the same time, may even have reason to do so. For instance, when a very probable suspect who is questioned by the police asserts that he is truly innocent, one may not accept the statement as absolutely true. Additionally, if a doctor were to tell a close relative of a seriously ill patient that there is a very good chance of recovery, one may have some doubts about what the physician ... Trade Policy For The New President Essay Kyra Boland Pecorino EC 430 001 10 November 2016 Trade Policy for the New President: Concerning Immigration In the recent decades, member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have seen rapid growth in the foreign born population which has stimulated research on the socio economic impacts of immigration. There has been great amounts of research done to produce literature like that of Gould (1994) that propose that immigration has proven statistically to have a significant positive impact on international trade. Considering President Elect Donald Trump s views on the issue of immigration and its economic impacts are rather poor, it is imperative to present evidence of the positive result of immigration will benefit the United States rather than cost it. The early rhetoric of the election displayed rather ill intentions toward the growing foreign born population that is continually entering the United States; however the increased immigration theoretically will, apart from its impact on the labor market in the host country, have positive effects on the increase of trade between immigrants host and home countries. Within the pioneering studies of Gould (1994), links have been made that immigrants affect both imports and exports for the United States. It is suggested in Gould s reports that immigration, specifically immigration induced population growth, increases both aggregate demand and output. Therefore, the demand for imports ... • 36. Essay on Disney s Medievalesque Sleeping Beauty Disney s Medievalesque Sleeping Beauty It was not once upon a time, but in a certain time in history, before anyone knew what was happening, Walt Disney cast a spell on the fairy tale. He did not use a magic wand or demonic powers. On the contrary, Disney employed the most up to date technological means and used his own American grit and ingenuity to appropriate European fairy tales. His technical skills and ideological proclivities were so consummate that his signature obfuscated the names of Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, and Collodi. In a paper of this size I neither wish to criticize scholars for neglecting this area, nor do I hope to remedy this problem in one blow. Instead this paper will examine the particular ways in which Disney uses the medium of animation in order to incorporate the medieval into his adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, as well as the very pointed anachronistic exceptions it makes to this medievalesque trend. • 38. Morally Ambiguous Characters in Fyodor Dostoevsky s Crime... Often times in literature, we are presented with quintessential characters that are all placed into the conventional categories of either good or bad. In these pieces, we are usually able to differentiate the characters and discover their true intentions from reading only a few chapters. However, in some remarkable pieces of work, authors create characters that are so realistic and so complex that we are unable to distinguish them as purely good or evil. In the novel Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky develops the morally ambiguous characters of Raskolnikov and Svidrigailov to provide us with an interesting read and to give us a chance to evaluate each character. Svidrigailov is one of the most unfathomable characters in Crime... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being the protagonist in Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov is subject to most ridicule and analysis for his moral ambiguity and outlandish views. After reading about his dreadful murder of Alyona and Lizaveta Ivanovna, many come to the conclusion that Raskolnikov is purely evil. His lack of guilt and belief of justification for his crime surely points readers in this direction. Raskolnikov remains convinced that he is superior and that it was his duty to kill such a worthless person. Although some may view this as evilness, others may perceive it as downright ignorant. His atypical way of thinking doesn t necessarily make him evil, but that is how some comprehend it. At certain points in the story, we see Raskolnikov not as a deranged man, but instead as a compassionate human being. After the murder, we see him carrying out various charitable acts, perhaps as an attempt to atone for his unforgivable crime. For example, we see some good in him when he gives Sonya s family twenty rubbles after Marmeladov passes on. We also see this when he attempts to rescue a drunk girl from a man by giving her money for a taxi. As much as Raskolnikov expresses that he was justified in his actions, through his mental and physical illnesses it is apparent that he feels some guilt about it. This guilt makes him seem at least a little bit more human. For these reasons, when all is said and done, it is difficult to determine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hunter s The Servant Servant Leadership and its Application to Nursing Practice The basis of the servant leadership theory is that in order to be a good leader; one must be a servant, first (Hunter, 1998). Although, the concept of servant leadership can be applied to any field, many nurses identify with the servant leadership style the most. James C. Hunter s book, The Servant, portrays a difficult journey of understanding this concept, while also addressing many of the main components of servant leadership. In this paper, I will discuss the concept of servant leadership and how reading about this concept has helped me reach my goals to become a knowledgeable and professional nurse. Definitions and Background The term, servant leadership was first coined in 1970 by Robert K. Greenleaf (Marquis Huston, 2015). The concept was introduced in Greenleaf s essay, The Servant as Leader (Greenleaf, 1991). In Greenleaf s essay he mentions that a servant leader focuses on the growth, as well as the wellbeing of the people and the communities that they belong in (Greenleaf, 1991). A servant leader helps others work at their best, which I believe results in authority for the servant leader. Hunter s book mentions this when a student discovers that the right to be called a leader starts out with having the proper will. With the proper will, comes the decision to love others (Hunter, 1998). He defines loving others as the ability to meeting the needs of the subordinate, this leads to ... The human mind is not easily persuaded to blindly believe, and the concept of God or gods, since their conception, has always relied upon belief. The importance of faith in relation to one s God was extremely relevant when Christopher Marlowe composed Doctor Faustus in the 16th century, for the waning influence of the Catholic Church and the general dispersion of religionhad caused a drop in religious fidelity. In his tragedy Doctor Faustus , Marlowe shows the main character denying opportunities to repent not because of ignorance, but because of an inability to fully trust in a benevolent divinity, even in a circumstance where man does not question the existence of heaven or hell. Faustus inability to trust Godstems from his connection with evil, and Marlowe uses Doctor Faustus thirst for knowledge and power as the primary reason for his gravitation towards and consequent trust of Satan. In the beginning of the the story, Dr. Faustus seeks to become all powerful and all knowledgeable, rivaling the omnipotence of God. To achieve such a world of profit and delight/Of power, of honor and omnipotence, (1.52 53) Faustus indulges himself in the realm of dark arts, studying metaphysics of magicians/And necromantic books that promise to enlighten him with extraordinary capabilities. It is the darkness ability to answer Faustus desires in the now that gains his trust, for Faustus is not interested in serving a God that seemingly does nothing for him. This is further illustrated when Faustus proclaims, To God? He loves thee not/The God thou serv st is thine own appetite (5.11 12).The instant gratification of evil better resonates with Faustus, and because he never sees God appease him in the way that darkness has, he trusts Satan more than God. Marlowe has Doctor Faustus matriculate towards Satan in the novel s beginning because of the perks of evil, and he never turns back.
