Carmichael s Theory Of Black Power
More than fifty years after two simple words black and power captured the nations attention, many
people still struggle with what to make of them. The concept of Black Power, despite being around for
decades, still elicits ambivalent reactions in different groups of people ranging from outright
fascination to heightened, emotionally charged memories or ideas. Oftentimes torn between
veneration and vilification of the public and private politics of Black Power adherents, much of the
middle ground is still to be conquered by great parts of the public and scholars alike. These disparate
views illustrate that after almost twenty years of revision, the new scholarship on the Black Power
phase of the African American Freedom Struggle has yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Published in 2006, Peniel Joseph s first comprehensive account of the history of the Black Power
movement in the United States was written against a historiographical backdrop that paid little or
selective attention to the distinct ideological and activist roots of the Black Power advocates who rose
to influence in the late 1960s. Addressing a narrative that at best illustrated the young activists as
naïve and mislead, and at worst as criminal and self centered demagogues to be blamed for the
dissolution of the interracial civil rights coalition, Joseph centers his works around the emergence of a
rather apolitical Black Nationalism that turns its focus increasingly toward a more activist stance.
Concurrent with the evolution of Malcolm X, the politics of Black Power, Joseph argues, became
more and more politicized, culminating in separate parties, which, independently of the political
mainstream, pursued a politics of African American self determination. In contrast to those scholars
who consider the Black Power phase as part of the long civil rights movement, Joseph defines it as a
distinct form of radical African

The Place I Am Living Right Now One
The place I am living right now one can easily see the ocean in Brooklyn NY. It have a peaceful place
at the neighborhood s famous water along Emmons Avenue, where there are several seafood markets
and restaurants. During the summertime you can see more than 20 party boats with experienced
fishermen daily from Sheepshead Bay piers to deep sea fishing. You can also see many water activities
during the summer. There is a place that young professionals look for expected rentals and good
delicious diverse foods. There is a place that you could spend your whole life enjoy with beach and
sea viewpoint. To introduce Sheepshead Bay, I need to tell you where its name came from. There were
very funny and interesting things going on in this place. There are two different stories about this
name. You could hear from Sheepshead Bay s neighborhood, sometimes they will tell you its name
came form the outline of area like a sheep s head. However, the more popular story you will hear is
told by the fisherman. Archosargus probatocephalus, better known as the sheepshead, is one of the fish
varieties. This fish creature s face and teeth look like a sheep. Sheepshead fish were incredibly
common in Sheepshead Bay during the early nineteenth century. The most income of farmers is
commercial with fishermen while waiting for their farms to harvest. The Sheepshead fish was also
New York City s dining meal during that time, but the strange thing is Sheepshead around the late
1800s, the sheepshead

Examples Of Foreshadowing In A Prayer For Owen Meany
BOOM! The grenade detonates, a shattering ringing lingers in the air. Owen is lying in the sink,
mutilated and bleeding to death. This is the end of Owen s miraculous life, and a realization of faith
for John. But, how has John Irving led the readers of A Prayer for Owen Meany to this point? Through
his utilization of foreshadowing, the theme of faith, and symbolism, Irving details Owen s Messiah
like life and takes the readers from the boys childhood adventures, all the way to Owen s heroic death.
Irving traces all the trials and tribulations the two boys undergo as they seek to understand their past
and future, growing up in Gravesend, New Hampshire. Irving uses foreshadowing frequently during
the novel, and often to signal an upcoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symbols and motifs are the tools for foreshadowing, and the development of faith. They develop
characters, scenes, and the setting. One of the most important motifs throughout the novel is armless
ness. In due course, Johnny learns from Owen that the aforementioned armadillo was declawed
because, GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD
HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD S INSTRUMENT (87). Additionally, Owen removes the
limbs from the Mary Magdalene statue, and Tabitha s dressmaker dummy has never had limbs. All the
armless ness combines to foreshadow the final armless thing: Owen. Owen dies armless; therefore,
John Irving utilizes armless ness to foreshadow his death. However, this isn t all the armless motif
represents. The armless symbols don t seem to just foreshadow Owen s fate; they also show how
everything that happens to him is intertwined in some way that makes the reader believe that his death
is scripted and inevitable. For example, Mary Magdalene can be likened to Tabitha. Mary was
considered a prostitute, albeit, still a good person. Tabitha has a kid with a mystery man and is still
known as a sweet and respectable woman. The comparison may be why Owen removes not only the
arms from the Mary Magdalene statue, but also the head; after all, he killed Tabitha by hitting her head
with a foul ball. Additionally, the images of figures without arms

From Jesus To Christ
From Jesus to Christ tells the story of how Jesus changed throughout his life from his birth to his
death. The parts of the film depict on how Jesus life was shaped through his surroundings and
influences on his life, the time after Jesus was crucified and how that sparked the movement of
Christianity, the Gospels representation of who Christ was and their own story, and lastly how
Christianity faced challenges. The first part begins as almost all Christians know the story, the angel
Gabriel sent by God to Galilee to tell the virgin Mary she would bear a child named Jesus. Known as
Jesus of Nazareth, later to the world as Jesus Christ, we know little about him other than the words of
the Gospels, his birth two thousand years ago, his baptism, and his public execution. The hardest part
is the lacking amount of material from the actual time of Jesus and trusting the words written decades
later. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emperor Augustus was seen as the son of God and that he would restore the golden age and spread his
empire across the Mediterranean. Unlike popular belief that Jesus was born into poverty and a lowly
village, it is more likely that he was born in the middle of major Roman city. He was immersed into
this political environment and raised into a social class unfamiliar to most believers. Instead of the
humble carpenter many thought Jesus was, Scholars question and some disagree with this belief

So What Analysis Miles Davis
So What Miles Davis Solo Analysis
Miles Davis solo is very minimalistic mainly using crotchet and quaver rhythms throughout with the
occasional triplet or semiquaver grace note. For the A sections of the first chorus he bases phrases
around the minor pentatonic scale. He develops his opening motif (bar 2 of A1) in bar 4 7 returning to
the root (E) in between each ascending then descending phrase going up to the 7th (D) in the final
variation of the motif. The phrase lengths are irregular; Davis generally uses shorter phrases in the E
minor Sections taking a vertical approach to the improvisation then uses longer phrases in the
contrasting F minor section where he takes a more horizontal approach. In A1 of the second chorus

Davis uses his opening phrase, an upbeat crotchet followed by another 3 crotchets, at the start of both
choruses and continues to use the 3 crotchet pattern throughout the solo for example bar 7 of A2 in
chorus 1. He also uses the pair of quavers starting or ending a phrase motif from So What throughout
this solo for example bar 7 of A1 chorus 1. From the start of this solo Davis makes use of the upper
extensions starting on the 9th (E) of the D minor chord. He tends to start the majority of phrases on the
4th of the chord being played at the time and also emphasises the 6th at the end of some phrases (bar
7, A1 in chorus 1) using the F# over an A minor chord. In general phrases last for about 2 bars
although the phrase lengths increase during the middle of the solo. One of the standout melodic
phrases is the partly chromatic semiquaver/triplet run in bar 7, A1 in the second chorus followed by
the repeated triplet pattern in the following bar. This phrase contrasts with the rest of the solo and adds
variation and excitement whilst moving the solo forwards. Davis uses triplet scalic/chromatic runs in
order to emphasise notes at the start of phrases for example, bar 8 of A1 in section 1 where the runs
leads to the G which emphasises the use of the 11th over the D minor chord. Miles Davis also uses
ghost notes in this solo (bar 6 of A2 chorus) in order to vary the dynamic levels

How Sandia Played A Nuclear Deterrence Capabilities During...
In an instant Grandpa s face turned serious, and he proceeded to explain how, when he and Jay had
gotten chosen and sent to Sandia, it had been for specific purposes and training. He told me how
Sandia Base, named after the nearby Sandia Mountains, was the principal nuclear weapons installation
of the United States, and how for twenty five years this top secret base and its secondary installation
(Man z a no Base) had conducted atomic weapons research, development, design, testing, and training
which had gotten started under the Manhattan Project during World War II, and that production,
assembly, and storage of nuclear weapons got done there as well. Jay also explained how Sandia
played a key role in our country s nuclear deterrence capabilities during the Cold War and that,
although there was a lot of public speculation on what actually was going on at Sandia, the military
had designated that the activities at Sandia Base were secret under the Atomic Energy Act.
Grandpa and Jay received level 32 security clearance status, which was the absolute highest level of
security clearance available. That kind of clearance gets limited to only those persons who need access
to classified information for mission accomplishment, and is also called TOP SECRET clearance
involving matters of national security. I also learned that, even after they have left the military,
periodic investigations get conducted every five years of people who have gotten given TOP SECRET
clearance

Intersectional Discrimination Against African American Women
During Crenshaw s talk, she focused on the intersectional discrimination African American women
face. She got her point across by having the audience listen to and try to recognize names of black
men and women who experienced police brutality. I believe the main reason society has not
recognized these types of victims is due to lack of media coverage. According to an article on USA
Today, ...the data show that police incidents involving women of color occur at a disproportionately
high level compared with media coverage. (Clark, 2016) Because of this lack of coverage, many
people in society do not realize this type of crime is happening. I asked a friend for his thoughts on the
topic, and he said crimes committed against black women by

What Is Sherman Alexie s The Absolutely True Diary Of A...
When it comes to societies, all of them have their own customs. These customs force the people of
each society to conform to specific standards in order to get along. Usually they have two types of
rules; these are written and unwritten. The majority of the rules are written so that people will be more
likely to follow them. On the other hand, unwritten rules are used to guide communication on a more
personal level. This can be seen in the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by
Sherman Alexie. The author uses the story of a bullied Indian named Junior who decides to go against
societal norms and attend an all white school in order to challenge the views of each community. In
this story, the Indians often resort to violence when faced with something that threatens their culture,
or way of life. They see the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On Junior s first day at Reardan he already starts to notice this difference. The whites, when faced
with their first Indian student, are a little afraid so they resort to what they were always taught to do
when faced with an unfamiliar situation. They start to insult him by calling him names like Chief and
Red Skin. They also did this because they feared Junior. While explaining his first day at Reardan he
says, None of those guys punched me or got violent. After all, I was a reservation Indian, and no
matter how geeky and weak I appeared to be, I was still a potential killer. So mostly they called me
names. Lots of names (Alexie 63). This shows that they fear him just as much as he fears them. Soon,
they realize he is not a threat to them, and they quickly became friends with him. This is shown when
the Reardan crowd cheered Junior on after seeing the way the Indians treated him at the first
basketball game. They also booed the Indian team upon their arrival to the Reardan gym. This shows
how the whites use a verbal approach to deal with

Slumdog Millionaire Sociology
Media plays a significant role in our society. It is all around us, from the music we listen to on the
radio, the shows we watch on the television, to the articles that we read from the internet. Its main job
is to entertain, inform and educate society about what is going on in the world. Without it, the world
would be a dull place and people wouldn t know what is going on in the society. Listening to songs or
watching movies can be both delightful and relaxing, but this entertainment could possibly have a
negative effect; For instance, it could shift your behavior. While media can be very useful, it can also
impact our attitude negatively or positively depending on what we are listening or watching to.
So how exactly does the media change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of fact, it can shape people s attitude in a positive way. Let s take Slumdog millionaire,
directed by Danny Boyle, as an example. This movie is about Jamal, an 18 year old orphan from the
slums of Mumbai and a former street child, who is a contestant on Who Wants to Be Millionaire and is
one question away from the grand prize. But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on
suspicion of cheating because of the impossibility of a simple Slumdog with very little education
knowing all the answers. Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum
where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road. Long story short, Jamal
manage to answer the last question correctly and wins the grand prize. This movie shows that people
should not judge others from their origins. I used to think that people from the slums were ignorant
before watching this movie. It certainly change my perspective and the way I view people from the
slums. Another thing that I learned from this movie is that if you have determination and perseverance
to pursue your goals, you will eventually reach them. Jamal works very hard to work his way up from
the slum to winning the grand prize. Overall, this movie inspires me to work harder and don t give up
despite

The objective of the assignment is to discuss the implementation of the management and treatment
carried out on the patient (18999). Patient X is a New Zealand European and age 36 years male. He
was presented for dental hygiene care in May 2014 as part of his 12 months recall. Patient X was
hospitalised at an early age due to glue ear grommet procedure and later on with ankle surgery from
sports injury. As a result, he takes antifungal medications, Voltaren and Lamisil weekly and annually
as he is prone to infection. In addition to that, antihistamine is taken when required to control
hayfever. Patient X lives with his partner and is in full time employment. He had not been a regular
attendance until two years ago when he visited the urgent care with regards to his restorations. He was
later referred for periodontal maintenance. Patient was under the impression that dental visits are
referenced to restorative care rather than preventive. Furthermore, he preferred seeking dental care
unless it is necessary, such as pain and was not too found on the specialised dental team. The
periodontal health of the patient had been identified as localised plaque induced gingivitis which
generalised light plaque and subgingival calculus was evident. The following discussion will focus on
the planning, implementation and evaluation of the dental hygiene care.

I am writing this paper to inform my reader of lifestyles that can contribute to PAD My audience will
be caregivers who care for people with this disease I will take the angle on what causes this condition
I need to know can this disease be prevented?
Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a secondary result of atherosclerosis and it can develop in any of
your arteries. When atherosclerosis affects your arms and legs, it is called Peripheral Artery Disease.
Atherosclerosis is when the arteries become clogged with clumps of fat, cholesterol and other material
called atherosclerotic plaques which causes the arteries to become hard and narrow. These plaques can
make arteries so narrow that less blood flows through. You feel pain because your leg muscles are not
getting enough oxygenated blood. Oxygen is the fuel that muscles need to contract. Oxygen is also
needed to keep your cells living and when oxygen is not present your cells began to die.
I am writing this paper because our family is dealing with my dear grandmother who is suffering from
PAD. She has been in daily pain for over 2 years now and the disease is progressing rapidly. My
mother, who is my grandmother s caregiver, has been living with her for about two years: caring for

Financial Crisis And Its Effects On Economic Growth
The late half of 1997 and the early parts of 1998 presented the world with one of the world s most
famous financial crises. This financial crisis proved to be detrimental mainly to the south eastern
Asian area, including South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia. The
aforementioned south eastern states recorded astounding economic growth in the preceding decade.
The downfall of the economy caused a domino effect in the local markets and currency markets of
each country. The nations leaders, as a result, had to request assistance from the IMF. Politics were
important in creating the financial boom, but they were also guilty of the subsequent consequences.
Similar to a number of financial crises in the past, the Asian financial crisis came to be as a result of
unexpected economic growth. The countries were all under the influence of a number of different
economic criteria, such as cheap yet fairly well educated labour, lowered barriers to trade, and
economies based heavily on exports. Even Malaysia enjoyed bountiful foreign direct investment. All
of these elements came together to make Asia dominant force in exports. This was proven by the fact
that none of the countries affected by the crisis experienced of export growth lower than 12% between
1990 and 1996. Not only did these countries experience rapid growth in exports, the nature of the
exports where product types are concerned also changed. The products evolved from simple products

Beowulf As A Hero
A hero must do many things to be allowed the title of hero. However, there are some aspects a hero
should not show. If these characteristics are shown, they should not be considered a hero. One
attribute a hero should not display is selfishness. In the Knight s Tale, written by Geoffrey Chaucer,
Arcite and Palamon acted selfishly. They perceived a beautiful lady. They fought for the beautiful
lady. They died for the beautiful lady. Nevertheless, they acted selfishly during this gripping story. For
example, they fought for Emily, the beautiful lady, because neither could live without her.
Nonetheless, neither ambitious young man could bother themselves to question her on whether she
wished to marry either of these headstrong knights. She may not have desired to marry either of them.
Therefore, they acted selfish and do not live up to one requirement of a hero. On the contrary,
Beowulf, the main protagonist in the epic poem Beowulf written by an unknown source, did not act
selfishly. Throughout the poem, he risked his life to fight horrendous monsters to save the good people
living in the area. These actions define Beowulf as a hero. Contrarily, Sir Gawain, who starred in the
book Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, embarked on a dangerous journey. The Green Knight had
tasked him to find the Green Chapel. Before finding the chapel, the tired knight came across a castle
tucked away in the peaceful forest. When he asked to stay for a night, his host proposed a trade. The

The Immigration Of Americ The Land Of The Free
The idea of immigration to America has been an extremely important part of the history of the country
for hundreds of years. Some of the original immigrants to America were the settlers in 1607, when a
group of men from England started a colony admits the swamplands of current day Virginia. Several
years later in 1620, a group of puritans known as the Pilgrims also made their way to America to start
a new life. Since then, millions have traveled across the ocean in hope of a new life and future in what
is known as The Land of the Free. Just like much of the eastern side of the country, the immigration of
Europeans to America played a very important role in the history of Michigan as well. It is through

Almost immediately after settlers started immigrating to America, Christian missionaries followed
closely behind, feeling it was their duty in the eyes of God to witness to the native people, and tell
them about what they believed to be the one and only true religion. Father Joseph LeCaron was one of
the first missionaries to come to America in the year 1615 (21). Several years later in 1665, Father
Claude Allouez also traveled from France to the Great Lakes when he first encountered some Natives
and their religious practices. He explains in a letter to his superiors in France that the natives were
worshiping a lake. The savages revere this lake as a divinity and offer it sacrifices, whether on account
of its size, or because of its goodness in furnishing fish...One often finds at the bottom of the water

superstitious, they keep them as so many divinities or as presents which the gods dwelling beneath the

Value Of Life In Roger Jones s Human Life Calculator
After the death of a loved one, imagine being given a sum of money as compensation. Does each
dollar and cent fill the hole left in their absence? Of course that would be impossible, as the individual
lost was a living, breathing human with something irreplaceable to offer the world. The value of life
comes not from the monetary value deemed appropriate by society, the power one wields or the
situation an individual finds themselves born into, but rather exists just as simply as humanity itself;
there is no price tag on what one can contribute to the world.
As appalling as it might seem, many, even the government, might say a person is only as valuable as

Agriculture And The Industrial Revolution Of The Late 1700s
As the Earth s population grows at breakneck pace over the next several decades, who will feed the
world s people? Agriculture has undergone an extensive expansion and transformation throughout the
last few centuries, beginning with the Industrial Revolution of the late 1700s. New technology
allowed for better and greater methods of production. With the development of modern technology,
people try to think some way can plant less, get more. Many farmers plant only one crop in the same
place year after year. However, those against monocropping claim that it is very hard on the
environment and actually less profitable than organic means of farming ( Monoculture Crops Learn
About The Effects Of Monocropping ). In addition, the destructive nature of agriculture has recently
shown its hand. While our supermarkets, convenience stores, and restaurants are filled with abundant
food options, people forget to ask themselves where all this food comes from. Globalization has
opened up economies of scale and has allowed people to tap into different types of products, whether
that is food or clothing. But the availability of an increased mass market comes at a cost. However,
today, the modern farming techniques have grown into a headache for farmers and governments alike,
because they are the consequences of overproduction, industrial waste and other problems arising
from the modern methods of agriculture. Thus, modern techniques are harmful to environments,
animals, and humans.

Superior Edge Analysis
Reflection Paper Superior Edge
Superior Edge is an amazing program and each edge has left a big impact on me and my future.
Through this program, I received an opportunity to keep a log of my volunteer experiences. Superior
edge also challenged me in the type of volunteer I participated in. For example, having to reach a
certain amount of house for civic engagement, domestic and international diversity was a challenged.
Essentially the program encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and volunteer in different ways
by giving back to the community and being self aware of the skill I learned.
Citizenship
I gain so much from the citizenship edge. I am impacted by this edge because I am a more involved
and engaged citizen. I participated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This edge impacted me in many ways. It allowed me to learn, participate, and embrace other s culture
and events. Looking back, I participated and coordinated some really cool events. One special event
was the All Nations Night. An event where international students got a chance to bring their countries
to the U.S. through games and food. Everyone joined together for great food, fun games, and an
opportunity to learn about culture and countries. Upon completion of this edge, I developed an
appreciation for all aspects of diversity. From race to diversity in age. I increased my knowledge of
different cultures and I appreciate what makes me different.
Leadership
The leadership edge was the easiest for me. As a natural leader, I m always looking to put my skills to
use. However, this edge was great because I was able to learn about the different types of leadership
and how ethic and theory plays a role in an effective leader. I received several opportunities that
allowed me to learn about group s dynamics and processes. Additionally, I learned about my strengths
and weaknesses. I received a lot of leadership from logging my Resident Adviser training. Through
training, we learned so much about leadership and different approaches.

Mexican Olympics Protest Of 1968 And The Protests
In formality to human existence, protesting has been a right for all humans to speak to their mind.
Some may say that the idea of revolting against injustices is embedded in our DNA; perhaps this may
be true, but regardless, protesting has been a sign for craving transformation. Dating back from
American Revolution to Black Lives matter, protest has been the only guaranteed freedom that gives
us a voice to alter our future. In retrospect, movements or protest such as Civil Rights Movement quite
literally changed the landscape of America for generations; speaking out towards the spiteful racism
that was so prevalent during those times leading to an importance in diversity. Similarly, Countries
around the world have conducted protest that has revolutionized the way of life or inspired future
generations. A clear distinction of this honor would be with Mexican Olympics protest of 1968, the
infamous protest that captured the world s attention. Public found themselves in a unique position in
viewing the Mexican youth stand up against the corruption of the Mexican Government. This social
unrest became a fundamental part of modern Mexican culture that has sparked transparency in their
government and transpired an unexpected deeper effect internationally. The time period around the
Summer Olympics in 1968 was a pivotal moment in Mexico. In fact, the Olympics games was a
monumental honor due to Mexico becoming the first Spanish speaking and developing country to host

Foot odor is a disease which is scientifically known as bromhidrosis sweaty and smelly feet. While
neither painful nor contagious, foot odor causes unmitigated social suffering to those who are
burdened with it. Under normal conditions each of your feet produces half a pint of sweat by means by
means of some 20,000 sweat glands. In most people, this perspiration evaporates. In people with
bromhidrosis, however , more sweat is produced, and it doesn t evaporate as easily, which will result
to odoriferous feet. In the presence of bacteria, these sweaty secretions break down, generating a foul
smell . Obviously washing away the bacteria and drying very carefully can temporarily make your feet

The Theory Of General Strain Theory Essay
Introduction
In the 1980 s, Criminologist, Robert Agnew, presented his theory of general strain, in which he covers
a range of negative behaviors, especially how adolescents deal with stresses of strain. General strain
theory focuses on the source, such as anything that changes in the individual s life that causes strain.
His theory provides a different outlook on social control and social learning theory for two reasons:
the type of social relationship that leads to delinquency and the motivation for the delinquency
(Agnew, 1992). He states that certain strains and stresses increase the likelihood for crime such as
economic deprivation, child abuse, and discrimination. These factors can cause an increase of crime
through a range of negative emotions. For some people it can take a lot of willpower to take a
corrective action and try to deter away from committing crime in a way that they can relieve these
negative emotions. When people cannot cope with the stresses of the strain, they turn to crime as a
coping mechanism. Agnew also states, that not all people that experience the stresses of strain will go
forward to committing crime and live a deviant life.
Agnew assumes that all people of all social classes experience and deal with frustration when
experiencing a great amount of stress. The general strain theory bridges the gap between the poor and
the rich. The stresses of strain is a universal feeling that every individual experiences at some point in
time of their life.

Juvenile Castration In Cats
Overpopulation of unwanted or stray cats continues to be a problem in many countries all over the
world. Surgical sterilization is the most reliable and commonly used method to control reproduction in
cats (Bloomberg, 1996; Howe 1997; Looney et al., 2008 and Reichler, 2009). Castration is a common
procedure in male cats recommended to reduce the population of unwanted cats and reduce aggressive
behavior. Post pubertal castration is performed within the age of six to nine months (Yates et al.,
2013). Prepuberal castration also called juvenile neutering in cats less than five months of age (Neven,

Argument On Divine Command Theory
Divine Command Theory: (When employing the DCT in an argument, you must always cite a specific
source ie. scripture, doctrine etc. to validate your claim.) Type information here. Divine command
theory is a theory that believes that what is willed by God is morally right. Another portion of this is
that in order for a belief to be morally right a knowledge of God is required. This knowledge of God
being required can be seen as a weakness due to atheists and agnostics not being able to be morally
right. Some of the more notable philosophers that brought about various forms of divine
commandment Theory have been Saint Augustine, John Calvin, and William of ockham. A prime
example of divine command theory in modern practice is The Ten Commandments among Christians.
The Ten Commandments are from the Old Testament in the Bible and are a basic set of rules to follow.
This basic set of rules that was set forth by the divine is commonly what this theory is based on. Self
Interest (Egoism): Type information here. There are two basic kinds of egoism, there is ethical egoism
and there is psychological egoism. These two different forms of egoism are different because ethical
egoism is the normative ethical position that what is moral is to be done in self interest. This is
different from psychological egoism which states specifically that people will only act in their own
self interest. Ethical egoism is broken up into two forms. There is act egoism and Rule egoism. Act

Narrative Of A Mother Daughter
A tired mother reclines before a long mirror, beginning to prepare her ten year old daughter for bed.
As she works out the last few tangles from her hair, the woman s gaze turns to her reflection the
dulling of her once youthful body palpable in the company of her youthful daughter. Author Sharon
Olds uses the narrative of a mother daughter relationship to address issues of aging, death and
replacement, juxtaposing the youth of a ten year old with the maturity of the thirty five year old. 35/10
takes readers on one woman s journey of sorrow as she copes with the loss of her youth, but deeper
than that, her confrontation with grief as she realizes her daughter will one day replace her. The
woman feels as though she is beginning her life s decline just as her daughter begins her ascent into
womanhood, inquiring, ...Why is it / just as we begin to go / they begin to arrive... (lines 4 6). Olds
takes on the voice of this despondent woman in her poem 35/10, using rich, honest language and
metaphoric comparisons to communicate observations about the cycle of life and the pattern of
replacement. In the main body of her poem, Olds lists a sequence of three key metaphoric
comparisons between the woman and her daughter s changing bodies. Both characters are
experiencing small previews of their futures through developmental transformations, the younger a
preview of womanhood and the older a preview of aging and ultimately future replacement. The
comparison is made in the same

  • 2. Carmichael s Theory Of Black Power More than fifty years after two simple words black and power captured the nations attention, many people still struggle with what to make of them. The concept of Black Power, despite being around for decades, still elicits ambivalent reactions in different groups of people ranging from outright fascination to heightened, emotionally charged memories or ideas. Oftentimes torn between veneration and vilification of the public and private politics of Black Power adherents, much of the middle ground is still to be conquered by great parts of the public and scholars alike. These disparate views illustrate that after almost twenty years of revision, the new scholarship on the Black Power phase of the African American Freedom Struggle has yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Published in 2006, Peniel Joseph s first comprehensive account of the history of the Black Power movement in the United States was written against a historiographical backdrop that paid little or selective attention to the distinct ideological and activist roots of the Black Power advocates who rose to influence in the late 1960s. Addressing a narrative that at best illustrated the young activists as naïve and mislead, and at worst as criminal and self centered demagogues to be blamed for the dissolution of the interracial civil rights coalition, Joseph centers his works around the emergence of a rather apolitical Black Nationalism that turns its focus increasingly toward a more activist stance. Concurrent with the evolution of Malcolm X, the politics of Black Power, Joseph argues, became more and more politicized, culminating in separate parties, which, independently of the political mainstream, pursued a politics of African American self determination. In contrast to those scholars who consider the Black Power phase as part of the long civil rights movement, Joseph defines it as a distinct form of radical African ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It have a peaceful place at the neighborhood s famous water along Emmons Avenue, where there are several seafood markets and restaurants. During the summertime you can see more than 20 party boats with experienced fishermen daily from Sheepshead Bay piers to deep sea fishing. You can also see many water activities during the summer. There is a place that young professionals look for expected rentals and good delicious diverse foods. There is a place that you could spend your whole life enjoy with beach and sea viewpoint. To introduce Sheepshead Bay, I need to tell you where its name came from. There were very funny and interesting things going on in this place. There are two different stories about this name. You could hear from Sheepshead Bay s neighborhood, sometimes they will tell you its name came form the outline of area like a sheep s head. However, the more popular story you will hear is told by the fisherman. Archosargus probatocephalus, better known as the sheepshead, is one of the fish varieties. This fish creature s face and teeth look like a sheep. Sheepshead fish were incredibly common in Sheepshead Bay during the early nineteenth century. The most income of farmers is commercial with fishermen while waiting for their farms to harvest. The Sheepshead fish was also New York City s dining meal during that time, but the strange thing is Sheepshead around the late 1800s, the sheepshead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Examples Of Foreshadowing In A Prayer For Owen Meany BOOM! The grenade detonates, a shattering ringing lingers in the air. Owen is lying in the sink, mutilated and bleeding to death. This is the end of Owen s miraculous life, and a realization of faith for John. But, how has John Irving led the readers of A Prayer for Owen Meany to this point? Through his utilization of foreshadowing, the theme of faith, and symbolism, Irving details Owen s Messiah like life and takes the readers from the boys childhood adventures, all the way to Owen s heroic death. Irving traces all the trials and tribulations the two boys undergo as they seek to understand their past and future, growing up in Gravesend, New Hampshire. Irving uses foreshadowing frequently during the novel, and often to signal an upcoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symbols and motifs are the tools for foreshadowing, and the development of faith. They develop characters, scenes, and the setting. One of the most important motifs throughout the novel is armless ness. In due course, Johnny learns from Owen that the aforementioned armadillo was declawed because, GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD S INSTRUMENT (87). Additionally, Owen removes the limbs from the Mary Magdalene statue, and Tabitha s dressmaker dummy has never had limbs. All the armless ness combines to foreshadow the final armless thing: Owen. Owen dies armless; therefore, John Irving utilizes armless ness to foreshadow his death. However, this isn t all the armless motif represents. The armless symbols don t seem to just foreshadow Owen s fate; they also show how everything that happens to him is intertwined in some way that makes the reader believe that his death is scripted and inevitable. For example, Mary Magdalene can be likened to Tabitha. Mary was considered a prostitute, albeit, still a good person. Tabitha has a kid with a mystery man and is still known as a sweet and respectable woman. The comparison may be why Owen removes not only the arms from the Mary Magdalene statue, but also the head; after all, he killed Tabitha by hitting her head with a foul ball. Additionally, the images of figures without arms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The parts of the film depict on how Jesus life was shaped through his surroundings and influences on his life, the time after Jesus was crucified and how that sparked the movement of Christianity, the Gospels representation of who Christ was and their own story, and lastly how Christianity faced challenges. The first part begins as almost all Christians know the story, the angel Gabriel sent by God to Galilee to tell the virgin Mary she would bear a child named Jesus. Known as Jesus of Nazareth, later to the world as Jesus Christ, we know little about him other than the words of the Gospels, his birth two thousand years ago, his baptism, and his public execution. The hardest part is the lacking amount of material from the actual time of Jesus and trusting the words written decades later. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. So What Analysis Miles Davis So What Miles Davis Solo Analysis Miles Davis solo is very minimalistic mainly using crotchet and quaver rhythms throughout with the occasional triplet or semiquaver grace note. For the A sections of the first chorus he bases phrases around the minor pentatonic scale. He develops his opening motif (bar 2 of A1) in bar 4 7 returning to the root (E) in between each ascending then descending phrase going up to the 7th (D) in the final variation of the motif. The phrase lengths are irregular; Davis generally uses shorter phrases in the E minor Sections taking a vertical approach to the improvisation then uses longer phrases in the contrasting F minor section where he takes a more horizontal approach. In A1 of the second chorus Davis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Davis uses his opening phrase, an upbeat crotchet followed by another 3 crotchets, at the start of both choruses and continues to use the 3 crotchet pattern throughout the solo for example bar 7 of A2 in chorus 1. He also uses the pair of quavers starting or ending a phrase motif from So What throughout this solo for example bar 7 of A1 chorus 1. From the start of this solo Davis makes use of the upper extensions starting on the 9th (E) of the D minor chord. He tends to start the majority of phrases on the 4th of the chord being played at the time and also emphasises the 6th at the end of some phrases (bar 7, A1 in chorus 1) using the F# over an A minor chord. In general phrases last for about 2 bars although the phrase lengths increase during the middle of the solo. One of the standout melodic phrases is the partly chromatic semiquaver/triplet run in bar 7, A1 in the second chorus followed by the repeated triplet pattern in the following bar. This phrase contrasts with the rest of the solo and adds variation and excitement whilst moving the solo forwards. Davis uses triplet scalic/chromatic runs in order to emphasise notes at the start of phrases for example, bar 8 of A1 in section 1 where the runs leads to the G which emphasises the use of the 11th over the D minor chord. Miles Davis also uses ghost notes in this solo (bar 6 of A2 chorus) in order to vary the dynamic levels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In an instant Grandpa s face turned serious, and he proceeded to explain how, when he and Jay had gotten chosen and sent to Sandia, it had been for specific purposes and training. He told me how Sandia Base, named after the nearby Sandia Mountains, was the principal nuclear weapons installation of the United States, and how for twenty five years this top secret base and its secondary installation (Man z a no Base) had conducted atomic weapons research, development, design, testing, and training which had gotten started under the Manhattan Project during World War II, and that production, assembly, and storage of nuclear weapons got done there as well. Jay also explained how Sandia played a key role in our country s nuclear deterrence capabilities during the Cold War and that, although there was a lot of public speculation on what actually was going on at Sandia, the military had designated that the activities at Sandia Base were secret under the Atomic Energy Act. Grandpa and Jay received level 32 security clearance status, which was the absolute highest level of security clearance available. That kind of clearance gets limited to only those persons who need access to classified information for mission accomplishment, and is also called TOP SECRET clearance involving matters of national security. These customs force the people of each society to conform to specific standards in order to get along. Usually they have two types of rules; these are written and unwritten. The majority of the rules are written so that people will be more likely to follow them. On the other hand, unwritten rules are used to guide communication on a more personal level. This can be seen in the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. The author uses the story of a bullied Indian named Junior who decides to go against societal norms and attend an all white school in order to challenge the views of each community. In this story, the Indians often resort to violence when faced with something that threatens their culture, or way of life. They see the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While explaining his first day at Reardan he says, None of those guys punched me or got violent. After all, I was a reservation Indian, and no matter how geeky and weak I appeared to be, I was still a potential killer. So mostly they called me names. Lots of names (Alexie 63). • 10. Slumdog Millionaire Sociology Media plays a significant role in our society. It is all around us, from the music we listen to on the radio, the shows we watch on the television, to the articles that we read from the internet. Its main job is to entertain, inform and educate society about what is going on in the world. Without it, the world would be a dull place and people wouldn t know what is going on in the society. Listening to songs or watching movies can be both delightful and relaxing, but this entertainment could possibly have a negative effect; For instance, it could shift your behavior. While media can be very useful, it can also impact our attitude negatively or positively depending on what we are listening or watching to. So how exactly does the media change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a matter of fact, it can shape people s attitude in a positive way. Let s take Slumdog millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, as an example. This movie is about Jamal, an 18 year old orphan from the slums of Mumbai and a former street child, who is a contestant on Who Wants to Be Millionaire and is one question away from the grand prize. But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating because of the impossibility of a simple Slumdog with very little education knowing all the answers. Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road. Long story short, Jamal manage to answer the last question correctly and wins the grand prize. This movie shows that people should not judge others from their origins. I used to think that people from the slums were ignorant before watching this movie. It certainly change my perspective and the way I view people from the slums. Another thing that I learned from this movie is that if you have determination and perseverance to pursue your goals, you will eventually reach them. Jamal works very hard to work his way up from the slum to winning the grand prize. Overall, this movie inspires me to work harder and don t give up despite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patient X was hospitalised at an early age due to glue ear grommet procedure and later on with ankle surgery from sports injury. • 16. Financial Crisis And Its Effects On Economic Growth The late half of 1997 and the early parts of 1998 presented the world with one of the world s most famous financial crises. This financial crisis proved to be detrimental mainly to the south eastern Asian area, including South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia. The aforementioned south eastern states recorded astounding economic growth in the preceding decade. The downfall of the economy caused a domino effect in the local markets and currency markets of each country. The nations leaders, as a result, had to request assistance from the IMF. Politics were important in creating the financial boom, but they were also guilty of the subsequent consequences. Similar to a number of financial crises in the past, the Asian financial crisis came to be as a result of unexpected economic growth. The countries were all under the influence of a number of different economic criteria, such as cheap yet fairly well educated labour, lowered barriers to trade, and economies based heavily on exports. Even Malaysia enjoyed bountiful foreign direct investment. All of these elements came together to make Asia dominant force in exports. This was proven by the fact that none of the countries affected by the crisis experienced of export growth lower than 12% between 1990 and 1996. Not only did these countries experience rapid growth in exports, the nature of the exports where product types are concerned also changed. The products evolved from simple products like ... • 17. Beowulf As A Hero A hero must do many things to be allowed the title of hero. However, there are some aspects a hero should not show. If these characteristics are shown, they should not be considered a hero. One attribute a hero should not display is selfishness. In the Knight s Tale, written by Geoffrey Chaucer, Arcite and Palamon acted selfishly. They perceived a beautiful lady. They fought for the beautiful lady. They died for the beautiful lady. Nevertheless, they acted selfishly during this gripping story. For example, they fought for Emily, the beautiful lady, because neither could live without her. Nonetheless, neither ambitious young man could bother themselves to question her on whether she wished to marry either of these headstrong knights. She may not have desired to marry either of them. Therefore, they acted selfish and do not live up to one requirement of a hero. On the contrary, Beowulf, the main protagonist in the epic poem Beowulf written by an unknown source, did not act selfishly. Throughout the poem, he risked his life to fight horrendous monsters to save the good people living in the area. These actions define Beowulf as a hero. Contrarily, Sir Gawain, who starred in the book Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, embarked on a dangerous journey. The Green Knight had tasked him to find the Green Chapel. Several years later in 1665, Father Claude Allouez also traveled from France to the Great Lakes when he first encountered some Natives and their religious practices. He explains in a letter to his superiors in France that the natives were worshiping a lake. The savages revere this lake as a divinity and offer it sacrifices, whether on account of its size, or because of its goodness in furnishing fish...One often finds at the bottom of the water pieces of pure copper...I have several times seen such pieces in the savages hands; and, since they are superstitious, they keep them as so many divinities or as presents which the gods dwelling beneath the water have given them and on which their welfare is to depend (Primary Document, 13). Does each dollar and cent fill the hole left in their absence? Of course that would be impossible, as the individual lost was a living, breathing human with something irreplaceable to offer the world. The value of life comes not from the monetary value deemed appropriate by society, the power one wields or the situation an individual finds themselves born into, but rather exists just as simply as humanity itself; there is no price tag on what one can contribute to the world. • 27. The Theory Of General Strain Theory Essay Introduction In the 1980 s, Criminologist, Robert Agnew, presented his theory of general strain, in which he covers a range of negative behaviors, especially how adolescents deal with stresses of strain. General strain theory focuses on the source, such as anything that changes in the individual s life that causes strain. His theory provides a different outlook on social control and social learning theory for two reasons: the type of social relationship that leads to delinquency and the motivation for the delinquency (Agnew, 1992). He states that certain strains and stresses increase the likelihood for crime such as economic deprivation, child abuse, and discrimination. These factors can cause an increase of crime through a range of negative emotions. For some people it can take a lot of willpower to take a corrective action and try to deter away from committing crime in a way that they can relieve these negative emotions. When people cannot cope with the stresses of the strain, they turn to crime as a coping mechanism. Agnew also states, that not all people that experience the stresses of strain will go forward to committing crime and live a deviant life. Agnew assumes that all people of all social classes experience and deal with frustration when experiencing a great amount of stress. The general strain theory bridges the gap between the poor and the rich. The stresses of strain is a universal feeling that every individual experiences at some point in time of their life. ... • 30. Argument On Divine Command Theory Divine Command Theory: (When employing the DCT in an argument, you must always cite a specific source ie. scripture, doctrine etc. to validate your claim.) Type information here. Divine command theory is a theory that believes that what is willed by God is morally right. Another portion of this is that in order for a belief to be morally right a knowledge of God is required. This knowledge of God being required can be seen as a weakness due to atheists and agnostics not being able to be morally right. Some of the more notable philosophers that brought about various forms of divine commandment Theory have been Saint Augustine, John Calvin, and William of ockham. A prime example of divine command theory in modern practice is The Ten Commandments among Christians. The Ten Commandments are from the Old Testament in the Bible and are a basic set of rules to follow. This basic set of rules that was set forth by the divine is commonly what this theory is based on. As she works out the last few tangles from her hair, the woman s gaze turns to her reflection the dulling of her once youthful body palpable in the company of her youthful daughter. Author Sharon Olds uses the narrative of a mother daughter relationship to address issues of aging, death and replacement, juxtaposing the youth of a ten year old with the maturity of the thirty five year old. 35/10 takes readers on one woman s journey of sorrow as she copes with the loss of her youth, but deeper than that, her confrontation with grief as she realizes her daughter will one day replace her. The woman feels as though she is beginning her life s decline just as her daughter begins her ascent into womanhood, inquiring, ...Why is it / just as we begin to go / they begin to arrive... (lines 4 6). Olds takes on the voice of this despondent woman in her poem 35/10, using rich, honest language and metaphoric comparisons to communicate observations about the cycle of life and the pattern of replacement. In the main body of her poem, Olds lists a sequence of three key metaphoric comparisons between the woman and her daughter s changing bodies. Both characters are experiencing small previews of their futures through developmental transformations, the younger a preview of womanhood and the older a preview of aging and ultimately future replacement.
