To What Extent Was the Election of 1800 Aptly Named the...
The election of Thomas Jefferson in 1800 was one of the most major turning points for America.
America was only an official country for 24 years and we were about to make some of the most
important decisions that would affect us to this day. Thomas Jeffersons economic view that farmers
were the most productive and trustworthy citizens, yet recognized that we needed a machine based
economy along with Albert Gallatin issuing the, Report on Roads and Canals, leading to the creation
of a national road were both big contributions to the American economy at that present time. Along
with the Louisiana Purchase from France and Lewis and Clarke Expedition were two huge factors in

The Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expeditions were big turning points in American
history because of the ability to settle into new lands and to start new businesses and farms in new
places. When Thomas Jefferson bought the entire Louisiana territory from Napoleon it was a huge
advantage to our economy. It enabled us to start new businesses and farms, thus making us a much
richer and more powerful country. Since it enabled America to start new farms it fed into Jeffersons
philosophy of wanting a more agricultural economy. This purchase helped our trading significantly,
we could trade much easier with different countries because we had access to the Mississippi River.
When Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory from Napoleon he did not really even know what he
was buying, except for the size of the territory. So, he sent a group of explorers to document and map
out the entire Louisiana territory, this expedition was led by two men named Lewis and Clark. They
founded many new animals and set an example for the Americans that would later on settle these areas
for how to live in each certain area of the Louisiana purchase. . The Louisiana Purchase followed by
Lewis and Clarks expedition were both big investments that payed off huge for America.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Once More To The Lake
In the text Once More to the Lake author E.B. White focuses on appealing to fathers or even possibly
parents in general. The text is eloquently written to ultimately reiterate that change is constant and at
some point in life all people will eventually die. His primary goal of this text is to enjoy the moments
in one s life before life is over. A nostalgic tone is used throughout when comparing his childhood
memories to the current memories he is making with his own son. White is effective in illustrating his
purpose by using techniques such as logos, ethos, pathos, and imagery to encourage his audience to be
aware that their own lives are inevitably growing older each day. In order to gain attention and
credibility from the intended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He refers multiple times to fishing terms that the general audience may not be knowledgeable of such
as spinner ( Once para. 1), hellgrammite ( Once para. 5), and bass ( Once para. 5). These terms not
only classify White as a fisherman but also suggest the importance or impact that fishing and the lake
have on his life. By using logos in his writing, he gains credibility with his intended audience.
Although ethos and logos are important modes as well, this text is most effective due to White s
continuous use of pathos. His thesis statement suggests the urge to return to his childhood memories,
...this feeling got so strong I bought myself a couple of bass hooks and a spinner and returned to the
lake where we used to go, for a week s fishing and to re visit old haunts ( Once para. 1).The audience
is also evoked with anticipation to what will happen later. A good example of this is I took along my
son, who had never had any fresh water up his nose and who had seen lily pads only from train
windows ( Once para. 2). The audience is left asking how the trip with his son will compare to his
own memories. White goes on to describe in intricate detail his memory of the lake, cabins, and
scenery. He uses visual imagery to allow the audience to place themselves in the setting he has
described. White wants to emphasize the permanence of some things, or at least the memory of some
things, despite the continual change that happens in the world

The World According To Americans 2012 Summary
The world has a perception of the American people and it s not as flattering as we would like to be. In
Yanko Tsvetlov s image The World According To Americans 2012 he illustrates in a brilliantly colored
map exactly how that perception appears to the rest of the international community. Using a map of
the entire world, Tsvetlov somewhat comically and perhaps accurately labels countries or regions of
the map in condescending statements or stereotypes (Tsvetlov). These labels are Tsvetlov s
interpretation of how the American people, either through lack of education or culture or perhaps
simple misconception, see various regions of the globe. Our arrogance and ignorance as a nation has
painted a picture for the rest of the world to easily judge us by. From tourists misbehaving to soldiers
acting foolishly abroad, the world sees too much of the wrong side of the American people. Tsvetlov
leaves his image open to much interpretation allowing the audience to draw its own conclusion about
what exactly he s trying to suggest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If interpreted in this fashion the map provides us with a simplistic Americanized view of the world
according to Tsvetlov. We can see the reduction of entire continents to comical phrases or the
summation of whole peoples to on word (Tsvetlov). In fact, the continent nation of Australia was
referred to as kangaroo riders reinforcing the idea that Americans characterize the world into simple
groups (Tsvetlov). Further evidence for this mentality towards the world can be seen in the title given
for all of Central America. Seven countries are degraded in to one offensive term Housekeeping which
perhaps explains why it s so easy for many foreigners to dislike Americans

Definition Essay On Tattoos
In different modern culture people often express themselves with tattoos. People express their beliefs
and, in some cases, prove themselves, like fight to prove that they are worthy to be in that culture.
Some cultural tattoos, like ones from Japan, can tell a story or indicate one s social status. People have
to prove to themselves and the other members of their culture that they belong. Cultural tattooing has
many different meanings to many different cultures.
The art of cultural tattooing is the art of marking skin with indelible patterns, pictures, or legends by
making pricks in the skin and inserting colored ink. This art has been referred to as pricking, scarring,

For a women who died without such tattoos, it was believed that she would not be recognized by her
parents in the afterlife. Tattoos also signified a person of high status. In 450 BC the greeks wrote that
among the scythians and thracians, tattoos were a mark of nobility, and not to have them was
testimony of low birth . In some tribal cultures the very experience of getting tattooed was viewed as a
test of an individuals courage and inner strength. The process of having razor sharp tools cutting into
one s flesh and having dirt, charcoal based ink, or other substance rubbed into the bleeding wounds
was incredibly painful. It sometimes resulted in infection, convulsions, high fevers, and even death.
Those who endured the experience and survived found camaraderie with other tribal members who
had done the same. But there was greater amount of pressure on individuals even young children to go
through the tattooing ceremony.
For example, in Inuit cultures it was understood that children on the verge of getting their tribal tattoo
must overcome their fears. Whatever the age in life , many early societies throughout the world
marked these rite of passage with tattoos

The Death Of The Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum
The Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum, also known as Exminster Hospital due to its location in
England, opened its doors to the mentally ill in July 1845. The building by J. Basire takes form of the
outline of a sun rising; half a circle in the center with branches coming out and fencing around the
branches. The building of three floors contained many who were considered mentally ill. What was
defined as mental illness and the terminology changed as the years went on, though it changed the
asylum housed many whom were considered such. The asylum closed its doors to any patient in July
of 1985. Timeline: Treatments for Mental Illness notes the history of mental illness; before the 1840s,
being mentally ill was considered to be a form of religious punishment and demonic punishment by
many cultures. In 1407 the first European establishment for mentally ill was established in Valencia,
Spain. As time progressed it was shown that Europeans began to increasingly isolate the mentally ill;
treated inhumanly, often kept chained to walls in dungeons. In the late 1700s some changes were
made as concerns for the mentally ill people s well being grew. After the French revolution Phillippe
Pinel, a French physician, took over the Bicêtre insane asylum, forbidding the use of chains and
shackles. He provided the mentally ill with better living conditions, sunny rooms and the ability to
roam around the grounds. Though some things have improved, mistreatment in other asylums
persisted. In

Acadian Natives
Acadians are the descendants of a group of French speaking settlers who migrated from coastal France
in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime provinces of
Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the mid sixteenth
century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisiana and are popularly
known as Cajuns.
Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces of
Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou a region that suffered great hardships in the late sixteenth and
early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a series of religious wars
between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France ripened, more than 10,000
people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604 known as La Cadie or Acadia. The
area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and part of
Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America. The Company of New France
recruited colonists from coastal France as indentured servants. Fishermen, farmers, and trappers
served for five years to repay the company with their labor for the transportation and materials it had
provided. In the New World, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kathryn Stockett s The Help
The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett, is a fictional novel centered on the racially divided town of
Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960 s. The book addresses the inequalities African Americans
continued to face even after the abolition of slavery. The story is about having a voice, and is written
in the perspective of three women: Aibileen and Minny, household maids, and Skeeter Phelan, a
young aspiring writer. To emphasize the prevailing conflict of the book, Stockett employed several
events between characters that revealed just how deep the roots of racism were in Mississippi. A major
part of the story is introduced when Skeeter Phelan tries to pursue her dream of becoming a writer.
After applying for a job in New York, Skeeter

Ted Bundy Vs Ted Bundy
Serial killers are one of the biggest mysteries to the rest of humanity. The way they think and act is
terrifying but also fascinating because other people don t think in the same way. So when we see
someone so sadistic and emotionally detached we want to know more about them. We want to know
what their childhood was like, if something happened in the early development of their lives or if they
were just wired that way from birth. Two of the most popular serial killers are Ted Bundy and Jeffrey
Dahmer. They both started killing people in their young adulthood, progressively becoming more and
more addicted to the thrill it gave them leading up to their arrests later in life. However, they had very
different home lives and experiences that lead to their fates. Childhood and adolescence tend to play a
huge role in the way people turn out as adults, so it s one of the first things people look back at when
someone turns out to be any kind of killer. Jeffrey Dahmer is said to have had a pretty normal
childhood though, according to his father, he had an unusual interest in the bodies of dead animals and
didn t show the same kinds of emotions as other children ( All About Jeffrey Dahmer , 2011). As he
developed into adolescence his fascination with dead animals only became more disturbing as he
started examining and dissecting the carcasses. He withdrew himself from society and turning to
heavy alcoholism. His drinking problem stayed with him throughout his high school career

Essay about Patrick Henry s Famous Speech
Patrick Henry s Famous Speech
Give me liberty or give me death. These famous words were uttered by Patrick Henry on March 23,
1775, as a conclusion to his speech delivered to the Virginia House of Burgesses. Within his speech,
he uses the three rhetorical appeals (ethos, logos, and pathos) to convey a feeling of urgency toward
the changes occurring in policy within the Americas implemented by the British government. He
cleverly uses these appeals to disrupt the paradigm that Great Britain is going to let the American
people have any liberty.
The Purpose of this speech is to gain support for a freedom movement from the British government.
One can see this when he states, ?Has Great Britain any enemy, in this quarter of the ... Show more

The very first sentence, ?No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of
the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the house. But?? conveys the message of him
caring about what others have said before he spoke. It also implies that he disagrees with some of their
views, which he goes on to explain through deductive reasoning in his speech
Patrick Henry uses logos in his speech by talking about Great Britain and how its military is infringing
on the right of the people living in the Americas, and how ?a British guard shall be stationed in every
house? when there is no war. The point he establishes about the extent of British abuse within America
can also be viewed as pathos.
Within Patrick Henry s speech, he states, ?? it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We
are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth.? Here he is talking about the people in the House of
Burgesses not realizing that the British are infringing on their rights as citizens.
[And what have we to oppose to them? Shall we try argument? Sir, we have been trying that for the
last ten years. Have we anything new to offer upon the subject? Nothing. We have held the subject up
in every light of which it is capable; but it has been all in vain.]
Using this series of statements, Patrick Henry presents a challenge to his peers. While

Making the Mortar and Pestle
Making the Mortar and Pestle For thousands of years, humans have been creating, designing, and
using tools. In the beginning, these tools were simplistic but effective, and made with natural materials
such as wood, bone, and stone. From these materials, many different tools, such as hammers, axes,
cooking utensils, and many more. For my tool assignment, I decided to make a simple mortar and
pestle out of stone. The reason for picking a mortar and pestle is because it is a kitchen apparatus that I
have always admired, using my mother s whenever given the chance throughout my childhood. To
begin the tool, I knew I needed to find suitable rocks for both the bowl and pestle. Finding the perfect
rock for the bowl proved harder than expected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I did this inside the entire circle, until there was a perfectly visible indent where the bowl was going to
be. I spent about four hours with the sandstone chunk in my lap, and continued to hammer at the
center of the bowl for depth, and using angled hits towards the center to shape the sides. I did end up
knapping at another stone to create a sharper hammer stone, so that I could alternate between the two.
The pyramid stone was good for breaking off bigger chunks, but the sharper stone was good for
creating grooves inside the bowl, which is better for the intended purpose of grinding. After the four
hours of constant hacking and chopping, I had a bowl that was about one and half inches deep. Since I
now had a functional bowl, I picked one of my many river stones to be the pestle. I had originally
thought of shaping my own pestle, but this one river stone fit so nicely in the bowl and in my hand. I
tested the mortar with the pestle using lavender and other plants to see how well it would grind. The
mortar and pestle ground material just as well as a store bought granite one. I had finished the bowl
but since the chunk I had broken from the main slab of sandstone was an awkward shape, I decided to
start chipping the edges to create a nicer shape. This idea had good intentions but went horribly
wrong. While trying to shape the bowl by carefully chipping the edges using glancing blows, and then
trying to

Examples Of Literacy Redefined
Literacy Redefined Literacy practices are what people do with literacy. However, practices are not
observable units of behaviour since they also involve values,, attitudes, feelings, and social
relationships, (Barton, Hamilton, 2017, p.299, ). As Barton and Hamilton (2017) wrote, Literacy
practices are incorporated through several methods within literacy events (p.299). Just as Literacy
practices, the definitions of literacy events, reading, writing, and texts stretch beyond their
connotations. The terms previously mentioned are essential to redefinining literacy because they are
the building blocks of literacy. Literacy is an ongoing developing skill that is unique to each person s
life and is changing with time and cultural development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of the size and functionality of computers, as well as in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement, The
Cold War, the election of John F. Kennedy, and other major turning points in American history

Selfe and Hawisher (2017) express that because of segregation, Melissa was placed in a segregated

present education paths, it was a great improvement in opportunity for African Americans compared to
the years before Pearson was born. Despite her disadvantage in the education system and in life
experiences because of her skin color, Pearson had a greater opportunity than other African Americans
because of her family s values. Pearson s literacy events described in Hawisher and Selfe s article
(2017) are major turning points in her life and others , such as the maltreatment of African Americans
and moving to another country right at as microcomputers entered the US (Hawisher and Selfe, 2017).

What I Have Majored And Systems Engineering ( Ise ) For...
Personal Statement
I have majored in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) for one and a half years at Virginia Tech.
My passion for ISE originated from my undergraduate studies. I achieved GPA 91/100 and ranked
1/66 when I graduated from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), one of
China s top 3 universities offering the Industrial Engineering program.
When I got into NUAA, I entered an Honors Program, which offers students a chance to choose their
majors according to academic interests after two years of studying. In my first summer vacation, I
volunteered to be a teacher in a school at the far west of Tibet. With houses scattered over a radius of 7
miles and only one school in this area, children have to travel several kilometers through mountains to
school. Our team met many problems. For example, how to visit students homes in the shortest routes.
We did not find a way out at that time. However, I never forgot to find simple and effective solutions.
To my great delight, in the Operations Research (OR) course I took after the summer vacation, I found
that the Travelling Salesman Problem were so similar to problems we met at Tibet. Got inspired by the
algorithms, I designed a project named Application of OR Methods to Education Volunteering. This
project used Ant Colony Optimization to optimize home visiting routes covering 8 villages, Hungarian

Analysis Of Nell Guthrie Sat On The Town Dock With Her...
Later that evening, Nell Guthrie sat on the town dock with her beau, Asa Davis. A rain cloud had
passed over and drenched Beaufort while Nell was eating supper with her mother and father, but now
the western sky was streaked with a sunset of orange, fuchsia and hints of chartreuse. The cloudburst
washed the movement out of the air, leaving behind a humid tranquility. Leaning toward her, Asa
nuzzled his paramour s ear, making her tremble. Where you been hidin out, lover? Has your daddy
been working you hard? She returned the kiss, teasing him with her lips. Daddy let me have the
afternoon off so I could clam for supper tonight. I thought I saw you leave the store. Then I stopped by
your house to deliver some laudanum for your mother. Thrilled that he was thinking of her throughout
the day, she answered, You know you have boys who make deliveries for you. I wanted to see my girl.
As she burrowed her face into his chest, she inhaled his familiar scent of perspiration and spicy bay
rum. Shifting around, she nestled her back into Asa s solid chest and shoulder. When he wrapped his
arms around her, and she could feel the rhythmic beating from his heart. Moored work boats filled the
glassy, calm harbor, many of them on their way to the Northeast after a winter in the South and the
Caribbean. Since land and sea were in a constant tussle for wind in Nell s coastal town, it was
unsettling to her when it died. When Asa began to caress her arm, a haunting penny

What Was The Golden Age Of The Victorian Era
Queen Victoria of England ruled from 1837 to 1901, making her the second longest reigning monarch
in England. During her reign, an entire era was coined in her name by historians. To what is
considered the golden age of England, the Victorian period brought a time of improvements in society,
great achievement, and revolutionary ideas that paved the way for modern times.
Like today, the Victorian society functioned on three main classes: upper class, middle class and
working class. The upper class consisted of the wealthy, nobles, and anyone with relations to the royal
family. These people could afford the life of luxury because depending on who you were, your family
probably owned a major mining or shipping business. People in this class saw many privileges like
access to phenomenal education and could import expensive goods from different countries.
One class that was growing each day was the middle class. These citizens lived in suitable conditions
and many owned smaller but vast businesses like tailor shops. Multiple businesses led to the increase
of job opportunities. These opportunities for jobs is what helped the middle class grow during this
period.
The final and bottom class is the working class. People in this class lived in poverty and sometimes
were even homeless. Categories to describe the working class were skilled workers and unskilled
workers. The skilled worker would be offered a job specialized to his skill, but if
the person was unskilled, he could

Analysis Of Dylan Thomas And Elegy For My Father, Who Is...
Whenever reading a poem you can never really understand what the poem is trying to portray. To
understand the poem, most often it needs to be read multiple times. When reading any poem, paying
close attention to the grammar and rhyme schemes plays an important part in the understanding. In
this essay I will be comparing the poem writing by Dylan Thomas, Do not go gentle into that good
night and Andrew Hudgins Elegy for My Father, Who Is Not Dead . These two poems can be found in
our lecture book Thinking and Writing about Literature (T.W.L). Both poems focus on their fathers, as
their lives come closer to their death. Even though both poems are centered around the death of their
fathers, the poets have two different meanings of death.
Do not go gentle into that good night (pg268 269) To make an analysis of this poem I broke the poem
up into stanzas instead of lines. The first stanza consists of lines 1 3. The first stanza tells the father to
not give up and to keeping fighting. Thomas asks his father to not be so accepting to death but to put
up a fight. He uses the would rage to encourage his father to be forceful and resistant to death. The
second stanza, lines4 6, describes that wise men realize that death is approaching. Thomas makes
these wise men sound knowledgeable. He makes it know these wise men do not just sit back and look
death in the face, but they also fight. Lines 5 and 6, says that these men they do not go gentle into the
good night. In the next

Indian Reservations
When the settlers invaded the Indian s homeland, they weren t happy about it. They were very angry.
Some were forced out of their homeland, and others decided to stay because they were afraid to leave.
The people who stayed were put into reservations. Reservations still exist today; it is land that is
reserved for Indians under a treaty or an agreement. The Indians didn t want to be put into
reservations, but they had no other option but to agree with the government. I looked into the
reservations and they still exist today. The Indian Country Today states that there is a housing crisis in
Indian country. Despite the Indian Housing Authority s (IHAs) recent efforts, the need for adequate
housing on reservations remains acute. I think that it is horrible what they re going through after all of

JP Morg 13bn Misconduct Settlement
Case: JP Morgan $13bn Misconduct settlement In November 2013, JPMorgan was involved in a law
suit scandal with the department of justice and agreed on a $13bn civil settlement for assuming
responsibility of toxic mortgage lending practices. The scandal evolved when banks exploited
mortgage securitization and packaged Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS) and Residential Mortgage
Backed Securities (RMBS) in an unfair manner, and were sold off to investors around the world who
were manipulated to think they were investing in not the best of quality credit risk loan, but really they
were investing in subprime loans that were essentially worthless. As a result, investors lost billions of
U.S dollars; due to the widespread effects other loan markets were affected which led to a loss in
investor confidence in the United States financial markets; the United States housing crisis meltdown
and ultimately the 2008 financial crisis (BARRETT, D. AND FITZPATRICK, D. 2013). JP Morgan

Exploring Economic Status Vs. Painter s Actual Lifestyle
This project involves the discovery and interpretation of paintings ranging from the mid 14th century
to the mid 18th century. More importantly, the paintings are those which have a figure shown in a
portrait type setting that are in the process of working or showing a task of their everyday life. I
explore the use of light pertaining to the painters attitude and also the fine details to explore economic
status vs the painter s actual lifestyle. Given that both artist had contrasting lifestyles, I believe the
style reflected their personal life or current events as well. To help interpret this research, many
paintings from five different artist were divided into folders and scientifically broken down and
compared using a state of the art program. The final result of these images concluded that Johannes
Vermeer and Francisco Jose de Goya, had opposite styles. Given the fact that Vermeer and Goya were
artists of neighboring centuries, why are their styles different? This research implies that between the
mid 16th century and the mid 18th century, portraits had a significant difference. The differences in
artwork show that painting styles are directly related to events in the particular artist lifestyle. The first
artist involved in this experiment is Johannes Vermeer (1632 1675). According to the article, A View

fathers art business when his father passed in 1652, leaving him

Explain Why There Is A Renewable Energy Source Compared To...
Solar Energy/Power
1. Describe solar power. Explain in detail how the energy source is used to generate electricity
Solar energy is a type of energy that is used in many households all around the world it is a renewable
resource meaning once you use it you can replace it. It is a great energy source that is going to rule
over coal and oil when we run out of fossil fuels. Electricity received from the panels is light energy
that has been converted.
The steps of how solar panels work are explained below:
1. The photons from the sun is absorbed by the solar panel
2. The silicon and conductors in the solar panel converts the light energy into a current of electricity
called Direct Current, which flows through to your inverter
3. The Inverter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spare electricity that wasn t used is credited to the grid
5. If more electricity is needed then your solar panels produce, electricity is taken from the grid to
power your house
2. What is a renewable energy source compared to a non renewable energy source?
A renewable energy source is a source of energy that can be renewed or replaced like solar or wind
energy, these are examples of renewable energy sources because they can be replaced. Solar energy,
the sun will never run out (until billions of years later) and wind energy is renewable because we can t
run out of wind. Now, non renewable energy. Coal, oil, gas these are all examples of non renewable
energy sources. They are non renewable energy sources because once you use it, you cannot replace it.
So renewable energy is energy that can be replaced and non renewable energy is energy that cannot be
replaced.
Is solar power a renewable or non renewable resource? Explain
Solar power is a renewable energy source because humans are not using any of the earth s resources
and because the sun will never run out or be extinguished. Each day you will generate electricity from
the sun

Noah: Genesis 6:12 22 Sadly, the Bible reports that nearly all of Adam s descendents had corrupted
their way upon the earth and lost their true direction (Gen. 6:12 Amplified Bible), and, as a result of
this intolerable situation, God told Noah that He had determined to make an end of all flesh [as well
as] destroy ... the land ... by [bringing] a flood of waters upon the earth (Gen. 6:13, 17). After the Holy
Creator had uttered this apocalyptic intent, He proceeded to provide Noah with instructions on how he
was to build an ark, which included information on a list of vital materials (Gen. 6:14), some details
on the manner they were to be used (Gen. 6:14), basic blueprints of its structure (Gen. 6:14, 16), and,
what measurements the floating vehicle was to have when it was completed, which Scriptures report

had to have the knowledge of the ratio scale of measurement so he could perform the task. Though it

Germ Theory Of Disease
Hand washing is the most important method of avoiding sickness and germs spreading. According to
WHO, it is always important to wash hands to not only remove visible dirty but also to kill disease
causing pathogens. We should wash our hands when:
They are visibly dirty
Before touching raw meant such as beef or chicken
After changing adults or infant nappies
After touching pets or animals
After going to toilets
Before eating
Before preparing food items
After contacting with any body fluids like vomit, urine and blood
After blowing our noses or sneezing
Doctors mostly use alcohol based hand rubs instead of periodically washing their hands since they
handle patients, very old people and very young children (M Worboys, 2008).
This experiment goes hand in hand with the Germ theory of disease which states that many diseases
are caused due to the presence and actions of specific pathogens within the body. Washing hands with
soap and water is among the best and the cheapest way to reduce the number of disease causing micro
organisms in many situations. If soap and water are not available, experts recommend that alcohol
based hand sanitizes containing at least 60% alcohol should be used (J Waller, 2004).
Alcohol based sanitizes quickly reduce the number of pathogens even though some Sanitizers do not
eliminate all germs. Hand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

through his new job, and circumstances he s never experienced before, and he remembers there is
good in the world too, watching his younger brother enjoy early childhood as he did. I will explain
how Homer went through an emotional journey in this novel. It s mentioned he dealt with the hard

If you cried and mourned everything that goes wrong, you d always be doing so. Homer is exposed to
this concept for the first time and it s not the happiness he s used to. This is an example of one of the
first lesson Homer gets in this novel. Homer also realizes that people are not perfect in this novel, the
fight and they hate and there not always a happy ending. It s stupid to criticize people for being as they
are. They won t change their ways and telling them off for such is a waste of time and will lead you to
be just as hateful as them. Homer learns this as an important lesson in the novel and it helps him grow
to becoming a man in ways the other events didn t. And finally, while Homer is going through his
journey, Ulysses is having the same experiences he had when he was a small child, but now Homer
relieves them remember that even though he knows the hardest parts of life he can still enjoy it and

Building a Virtual Team
Organizing the team, developing rules, assigning tasks, following up on tasks
A team comprised of international components presents an interesting challenge in regards to
management. Various problems can potentially arise in regards to organizing the team, developing
rules that govern the team and assigning tasks. One method in which to mitigate all of the above
mentioned rules is by setting performance standards for the entire team to adhere (Alexander, 2000).
One such standard involves the use of a balanced scorecard. A balanced scorecard allows each
individual irrespective of their position within the team to have a core set of standards in which to
abide by. These standards will also include the job function and the roles of each member with the job
function. The scorecard provides an ideal medium in which to judge performance as well. By viewing
the scorecard management can easily pinpoint areas of opportunity and improvement (Blair 2010).
Performance standards are a very integral part in the underlying business operations of any firm.
Competition, particularly from foreign entities is becoming more intense. As such, standards must be
created in order for companies to maintain their competitive advantage over their peers in a particular
industry. One only needs to look at the auto industry to see how a lack of standards and oversight can
be a detriment to business. Many foreign firms, due to competition have entered into the auto market
that was once dominated solely

World War 1 Summary
Setting the Stage for World War One History identifies the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
at Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, as the direct cause of World War One. Nonetheless, historians are in
agreement that there were many factors contributing to the conflict between the Great powers,
resulting in a large scale war to break out. The second industrialization also known as the
Technological Revolution from 1870 1914 cultivated industrial societies to emerge and leading to new
forms of states and of diplomatic and military alignments (Barzun). These military alignments were
later to be known as The Great Powers of Europe. The Great Powers were divided into two alliances:
The Triple Alliance between Germany, Italy Austria Hungry established in 1882, and The Triple
Entente between Britain, Russia France established in 1907 (Tonge). There were three main rivalries
between the powers: Germany France over the Alsace Lorraine territory (5,067 square miles of land
that was ceded by France to Germany in 1871 after the Franco German War), Russia Austria over the
Balkans peninsula in Southeast Europe (a desirable territory for its strategically vital geographic

The Shallow Pond And The Envelope
Paper Topic IV: The Shallow Pond and The Envelope
In this paper I will argue that other people s suffering matters and that as humans, we have a moral
obligation to help others in regards to the envelope and shallow pond cases, however, those we know
or are closer in proximity to, take priority over strangers. I will also address O Neill and Singer s main
expositions and their application on the issue of famine relief.
O Neill formulates her beliefs based on the ideas of Immanuel Kant. Kantianism is founded on the
belief that one must never treat themselves or another person as a mere means. O Neill believes that
the intention to perform an action, rather than the consequences of it, is what determines the moral
worth of one s actions. Additionally, she would argue that Kantianism revolves around actions
reflecting one or more personal maxim, or rule of conduct with which one guides their life. In
conveying the Kantian perspective, O Neill formulates a duty based argument. When applying our
duty of beneficence, she highlights that we have a responsibility to perform acts that refrain from
using people as mere means, as well as to help develop and promote the other person s ends, while
fostering their capacities to pursue their goals. O Neill further continues to mention our duty of justice,
which implies that we have an obligation to give to those in need, but prioritize those that we
personally know or are in close proximity to. Furthermore, this belief supports the idea

1.1 Research Goal The object of the proposed research is to build an authoring system for

the field of algorithmic thinking as a method for creating an abstract and cohesive representation of
the underlying logic and instrumental parts for the live electronics genre. Along with this new

Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about
the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important
to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re
interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as
main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among
the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new
notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not,
has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional
notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a
practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of
communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. All
relevant performance information is carefully detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles
in the communication system, a passive role

Essay about Feminist Ideas the Screwball Comedy Film Genre
The Screwball comedy is a film genre that found its way onto the screens in the early 1930s and lasted

there are pros and cons to this type of customer. On one hand, if a server provides pleasing service
they will receive a gracious tip, one worth bragging about. For not so pleasing service, this is where
problems occur. The how worthy are they? tippers in more cases than not will be the kinds of people
that are awfully hard to satisfy, they are typically the most demanding and are often looked at as high
maintenance. Not to mention, with these tippers not only will waiters receive little to no tip at all; it
would not be a surprise to a server that they hear the dreaded words, I would like to speak with your
manager. Fact is, there are other guests in the restaurant so servers should try their best to please the
how worthy are they? tippers while being mindful of others; hoping that their other tables have

The selection processes is designed to seek out the most qualified candidate to accomplish the

are used for recruitment, selection and training process of employees. This essay aims to expound on

select and train employees; namely, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the State Police
Department. In doing so, an examination of the methods used to measure the levels of success of each

Norse Presence In North America
The reading states that there are three main reasons why some archaeologists believe that the coin is
not genuine historical evidence of the Norse came into contact with Native Americans almost a
thousand years ago. However, the professor states that the coins are genuine evidence and refutes each
of the authors reasons. First, the reading states that the Native American site in Maine where the coin
was discovered is located very far from other sites documenting a Norse presence in North America.
The professor opposes this point by saying that other objects were found also far away from their
orignal site. The professor explains that Native Americans were travelling for long distances to obtain
objects far away from their places. So, the

Apprenticeship Skills Analysis
Which key skill would you be the best at doing in an apprenticeship this summer?
I think that I would be the best at is that I work well in teams. I can easily play a part in a big team
because I am really good in some things, but I might need help with other things. In a team, someone
else who is good at the things that I am bad at can do those things while I work really hard at the
specific things that I am good at.
What do you believe would be your first real job in a professional kitchen?
I think that, if I were going to take a job in a kitchen, it would be when I am in college. I would work
in a fast food restaurant and I would be one of the people in charge of making the fries. I do not think
that I am ever going to dive more deeply than that into the food business because It does not pay very
well and I do not enjoy making food. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the same scale, how likely is it that this could be your calling?
Four, because I might join a restaurant if I need to make money, but I do not think that I would
actually want to do it for an apprenticeship in cooking because it would not help me in life.
One. I would never even consider working at McDonalds or starting my own restaurant because the
pay Is low and I do not enjoy

African American Women And The Collective Psyche Of...
African American women have been purposefully written out of visual history with the exception of
scripted roles that have been predetermined by stereotypical scripts that are imbedded in the collective
psyche of American audiences beginning in the 1890s. Dorothy Dandridge was a sensational
performer that commanded attention and left her audiences awestruck on screen and in life. At the age
of eleven, I recall sitting in front of the television for a special televised movie, called Introducing
Dorothy Dandridge. The film opens with a somber score and voiceover of Dorothy (Halle Berry)
asking the audience, Have you ever caught sight of yourself by accident... And, you see yourself from
the outside... That s who you really are... That question captured my wondering eleven year old mind
and immediately pulled me into the world of a woman who was familiar to me. She was familiar in
her storytelling and questioning even before an image broke the continuity of credits on flashing on
the screen. My mother has always loved mirrors. In one room there would be at least two mirrors
suspended on the walls. I have caught many glimpses of myself over the years, so I knew exactly what
she meant in asking the question. It s a question that continues to be answered by Hollywood of black
women, but without their input or consent. The question is why? On November 9, 1922 in Cleveland,
Ohio a star was born, Ms. Dorothy Dandridge. Ms. Dandridge s manager and close friend, Earl Mills

America was only an official country for 24 years and we were about to make some of the most important decisions that would affect us to this day. Thomas Jeffersons economic view that farmers were the most productive and trustworthy citizens, yet recognized that we needed a machine based economy along with Albert Gallatin issuing the, Report on Roads and Canals, leading to the creation of a national road were both big contributions to the American economy at that present time. When Thomas Jefferson bought the entire Louisiana territory from Napoleon it was a huge advantage to our economy. It enabled us to start new businesses and farms, thus making us a much richer and more powerful country. Since it enabled America to start new farms it fed into Jeffersons philosophy of wanting a more agricultural economy. This purchase helped our trading significantly, we could trade much easier with different countries because we had access to the Mississippi River. When Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory from Napoleon he did not really even know what he was buying, except for the size of the territory. So, he sent a group of explorers to document and map out the entire Louisiana territory, this expedition was led by two men named Lewis and Clark. • 3. Rhetorical Analysis Of Once More To The Lake In the text Once More to the Lake author E.B. White focuses on appealing to fathers or even possibly parents in general. The text is eloquently written to ultimately reiterate that change is constant and at some point in life all people will eventually die. His primary goal of this text is to enjoy the moments in one s life before life is over. A nostalgic tone is used throughout when comparing his childhood memories to the current memories he is making with his own son. White is effective in illustrating his purpose by using techniques such as logos, ethos, pathos, and imagery to encourage his audience to be aware that their own lives are inevitably growing older each day. He refers multiple times to fishing terms that the general audience may not be knowledgeable of such as spinner ( Once para. 1), hellgrammite ( Once para. 5), and bass ( Once para. 5). These terms not only classify White as a fisherman but also suggest the importance or impact that fishing and the lake have on his life. By using logos in his writing, he gains credibility with his intended audience. Although ethos and logos are important modes as well, this text is most effective due to White s continuous use of pathos. His thesis statement suggests the urge to return to his childhood memories, ...this feeling got so strong I bought myself a couple of bass hooks and a spinner and returned to the lake where we used to go, for a week s fishing and to re visit old haunts ( Once para. 1).The audience is also evoked with anticipation to what will happen later. A good example of this is I took along my son, who had never had any fresh water up his nose and who had seen lily pads only from train windows ( Once para. 2). The audience is left asking how the trip with his son will compare to his own memories. White goes on to describe in intricate detail his memory of the lake, cabins, and scenery. He uses visual imagery to allow the audience to place themselves in the setting he has described. White wants to emphasize the permanence of some things, or at least the memory of some things, despite the continual change that happens in the world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Yanko Tsvetlov s image The World According To Americans 2012 he illustrates in a brilliantly colored map exactly how that perception appears to the rest of the international community. Using a map of the entire world, Tsvetlov somewhat comically and perhaps accurately labels countries or regions of the map in condescending statements or stereotypes (Tsvetlov). These labels are Tsvetlov s interpretation of how the American people, either through lack of education or culture or perhaps simple misconception, see various regions of the globe. Our arrogance and ignorance as a nation has painted a picture for the rest of the world to easily judge us by. From tourists misbehaving to soldiers acting foolishly abroad, the world sees too much of the wrong side of the American people. The building by J. Basire takes form of the outline of a sun rising; half a circle in the center with branches coming out and fencing around the branches. The building of three floors contained many who were considered mentally ill. What was defined as mental illness and the terminology changed as the years went on, though it changed the asylum housed many whom were considered such. The asylum closed its doors to any patient in July of 1985. Timeline: Treatments for Mental Illness notes the history of mental illness; before the 1840s, being mentally ill was considered to be a form of religious punishment and demonic punishment by many cultures. In 1407 the first European establishment for mentally ill was established in Valencia, Spain. As time progressed it was shown that Europeans began to increasingly isolate the mentally ill; treated inhumanly, often kept chained to walls in dungeons. In the late 1700s some changes were made as concerns for the mentally ill people s well being grew. After the French revolution Phillippe Pinel, a French physician, took over the Bicêtre insane asylum, forbidding the use of chains and shackles. He provided the mentally ill with better living conditions, sunny rooms and the ability to roam around the grounds. Though some things have improved, mistreatment in other asylums persisted. In ... • 10. Ted Bundy Vs Ted Bundy Serial killers are one of the biggest mysteries to the rest of humanity. The way they think and act is terrifying but also fascinating because other people don t think in the same way. So when we see someone so sadistic and emotionally detached we want to know more about them. We want to know what their childhood was like, if something happened in the early development of their lives or if they were just wired that way from birth. Two of the most popular serial killers are Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer. They both started killing people in their young adulthood, progressively becoming more and more addicted to the thrill it gave them leading up to their arrests later in life. However, they had very different home lives and experiences that lead to their fates. Childhood and adolescence tend to play a huge role in the way people turn out as adults, so it s one of the first things people look back at when someone turns out to be any kind of killer. Jeffrey Dahmer is said to have had a pretty normal childhood though, according to his father, he had an unusual interest in the bodies of dead animals and didn t show the same kinds of emotions as other children ( All About Jeffrey Dahmer , 2011). As he developed into adolescence his fascination with dead animals only became more disturbing as he started examining and dissecting the carcasses. Within his speech, he uses the three rhetorical appeals (ethos, logos, and pathos) to convey a feeling of urgency toward the changes occurring in policy within the Americas implemented by the British government. He cleverly uses these appeals to disrupt the paradigm that Great Britain is going to let the American people have any liberty. The point he establishes about the extent of British abuse within America can also be viewed as pathos. In the beginning, these tools were simplistic but effective, and made with natural materials such as wood, bone, and stone. From these materials, many different tools, such as hammers, axes, cooking utensils, and many more. For my tool assignment, I decided to make a simple mortar and pestle out of stone. The reason for picking a mortar and pestle is because it is a kitchen apparatus that I have always admired, using my mother s whenever given the chance throughout my childhood. To begin the tool, I knew I needed to find suitable rocks for both the bowl and pestle. Finding the perfect rock for the bowl proved harder than expected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I did this inside the entire circle, until there was a perfectly visible indent where the bowl was going to be. I spent about four hours with the sandstone chunk in my lap, and continued to hammer at the center of the bowl for depth, and using angled hits towards the center to shape the sides. I did end up knapping at another stone to create a sharper hammer stone, so that I could alternate between the two. The pyramid stone was good for breaking off bigger chunks, but the sharper stone was good for creating grooves inside the bowl, which is better for the intended purpose of grinding. After the four hours of constant hacking and chopping, I had a bowl that was about one and half inches deep. Since I now had a functional bowl, I picked one of my many river stones to be the pestle. I had originally thought of shaping my own pestle, but this one river stone fit so nicely in the bowl and in my hand. I tested the mortar with the pestle using lavender and other plants to see how well it would grind. The mortar and pestle ground material just as well as a store bought granite one. I had finished the bowl but since the chunk I had broken from the main slab of sandstone was an awkward shape, I decided to start chipping the edges to create a nicer shape. This idea had good intentions but went horribly wrong. While trying to shape the bowl by carefully chipping the edges using glancing blows, and then trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During her reign, an entire era was coined in her name by historians. To what is considered the golden age of England, the Victorian period brought a time of improvements in society, great achievement, and revolutionary ideas that paved the way for modern times. Like today, the Victorian society functioned on three main classes: upper class, middle class and working class. The upper class consisted of the wealthy, nobles, and anyone with relations to the royal family. These people could afford the life of luxury because depending on who you were, your family probably owned a major mining or shipping business. People in this class saw many privileges like access to phenomenal education and could import expensive goods from different countries. One class that was growing each day was the middle class. These citizens lived in suitable conditions and many owned smaller but vast businesses like tailor shops. Multiple businesses led to the increase of job opportunities. These opportunities for jobs is what helped the middle class grow during this period. The final and bottom class is the working class. People in this class lived in poverty and sometimes were even homeless. Categories to describe the working class were skilled workers and unskilled workers. To understand the poem, most often it needs to be read multiple times. When reading any poem, paying close attention to the grammar and rhyme schemes plays an important part in the understanding. In this essay I will be comparing the poem writing by Dylan Thomas, Do not go gentle into that good night and Andrew Hudgins Elegy for My Father, Who Is Not Dead . These two poems can be found in our lecture book Thinking and Writing about Literature (T.W.L). Both poems focus on their fathers, as their lives come closer to their death. Even though both poems are centered around the death of their fathers, the poets have two different meanings of death. Do not go gentle into that good night (pg268 269) To make an analysis of this poem I broke the poem up into stanzas instead of lines. The first stanza consists of lines 1 3. The first stanza tells the father to not give up and to keeping fighting. Thomas asks his father to not be so accepting to death but to put up a fight. He uses the would rage to encourage his father to be forceful and resistant to death. The second stanza, lines4 6, describes that wise men realize that death is approaching. More importantly, the paintings are those which have a figure shown in a portrait type setting that are in the process of working or showing a task of their everyday life. I explore the use of light pertaining to the painters attitude and also the fine details to explore economic status vs the painter s actual lifestyle. Given that both artist had contrasting lifestyles, I believe the style reflected their personal life or current events as well. To help interpret this research, many paintings from five different artist were divided into folders and scientifically broken down and compared using a state of the art program. The final result of these images concluded that Johannes Vermeer and Francisco Jose de Goya, had opposite styles. Given the fact that Vermeer and Goya were artists of neighboring centuries, why are their styles different? This research implies that between the mid 16th century and the mid 18th century, portraits had a significant difference. The differences in artwork show that painting styles are directly related to events in the particular artist lifestyle. The first artist involved in this experiment is Johannes Vermeer (1632 1675). The second industrialization also known as the Technological Revolution from 1870 1914 cultivated industrial societies to emerge and leading to new forms of states and of diplomatic and military alignments (Barzun). I will also address O Neill and Singer s main expositions and their application on the issue of famine relief. O Neill formulates her beliefs based on the ideas of Immanuel Kant. Kantianism is founded on the belief that one must never treat themselves or another person as a mere means. O Neill believes that the intention to perform an action, rather than the consequences of it, is what determines the moral worth of one s actions. Additionally, she would argue that Kantianism revolves around actions reflecting one or more personal maxim, or rule of conduct with which one guides their life. In conveying the Kantian perspective, O Neill formulates a duty based argument. When applying our duty of beneficence, she highlights that we have a responsibility to perform acts that refrain from using people as mere means, as well as to help develop and promote the other person s ends, while fostering their capacities to pursue their goals. O Neill further continues to mention our duty of justice, which implies that we have an obligation to give to those in need, but prioritize those that we personally know or are in close proximity to. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not, has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. All relevant performance information is carefully detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles in the communication system, a passive role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
