Las Vegas Movie Analysis
Before watching this movie, I thought Las Vegas is a place that shapes many people s life and
decides their destinies. And the only determine factor of winning money is luck. For example,
when two people bring the same amount of money to Las Vegas, one of them may become a
millionaire and another person may lose everything during one night. However, after watching this
movie, my impression to statistics has totally changed. It seems that people can use statistics to help
gain the greatest advantages in many circumstances. Also, I saw the dark side in human nature.
Teacher Mickey is a main character in the movie. He is a greedy, ambitious person who uses his
students to earn money. Obviously, he is not a qualified teacher. Therefore, I think society should
pay more attention to select teacher, because teacher can directly influence the next generation.
In this movie, the main character Ben is a college student who is good at math. He receives Harford
Medical School s offer, however, he doesn t have enough money to pay the tuition. At this time,
his calculus professor notices his talent on calculating. Then the professor invites him to become
a member of a math group and uses his talent to earn money in Las Vegas. The professor finds
that Ben has a gifted brain is because he successfully solves a famous statistic question which is
Monty Hall problem . In this problem, one person is on a TV show. The anchorman asks him to
choose one gate from within three gates. One of the

Evolution of the finch on Darwin amp; Wallace Island
A small population of finches have been discovered on Darwin and Wallace Island. The population
is 200 finches at Darwin Island, and 200 finches at Wallace Island. The year is 1997, and scientist
measured the finch beak size from both Darwin and Wallace Island. The finches from both island,
showed an average beak size of 12.0 mm. Precipitation on both Darwin and Wallace island average
20.0 cm. Scientists want to determine if precipitation was to increase, would the finch beak increase
in size? In this lab study, scientist will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the 2nd experiment, the scientist decided to change the independent variable. The year
would continue to start in 1997. The size of the finch beak will remain 12.00 mm. Precipitation
will be changed to 9.0 cm for Darwin Island, and 5.0 cm for Wallace Island. If precipitation went
down, the size of the finch beak would increase. In 2096, the beak size for the Darwin Island
finch was 18.59 mm, while the beak size for the Wallace island finch increase to 18.18 mm. The
population increased to 351 for the Darwin Island finch, and 444 for the Wallace Island finch.
On the 3rd experiment for Darwin Island, the independent variable was increased to 78.cm,
while the independent variable for Wallace Island increased to 68. cm. The precipitation increase
at Darwin and Wallace Island, indicated a decrease in beak size. The finch beak size in 2096, was
measured at 10.72 mm. The decrease of the finch beaks at Wallace island measured at 11.61 mm.
The population at Darwin Island increased to 682, while the finch population at Wallace Island
increased to 660.
Once the scientist finished analyzing the data collected they were able to determine if their
hypothesis was correct or incorrect. The final results of the scientific hypothesis was proved to be
incorrect. The scientist believed that if the precipitation was to increase at Darwin and Wallace
Island, the finch beak would enlarge in size. The data collected determined that the increase of
precipitation, made

Ith Reference to One Major International Conflict, Analyse...
With reference to one major international conflict, analyse and assess the geographical impacts of
conflicts on the area (40) A conflict is a disagreement caused by the actual or perceived opposition
of needs, values and interests between people; which can vary in intensity from political non
violent activity, to direct action and violence. When a conflict is created an extensive list of
geographical impacts follow, including social, political, environmental or even international
impacts. For centuries there was no such conflict. In the 19th century the land of Palestine was
inhabited by a multicultural population, approximately 86% Muslim, 10% Christian, and 4%
Jewish living in peace. However, in the late 1800s a group in Europe... Show more content on

As a result, Palestinians will lose nearly 18% of their share of the basin s water. The sandy desert
soil tends to absorb water and other pollutants such as sewage easily. This along with the
groundwater remaining fairly close to the surface leads to easy contamination. This combined
with an aging, poorly maintained, and now war damaged sewage system, has led to
groundwater pollution, which could severely affect the lives of many. Secondly, the close
relation between the social and environmental impacts that this Middle Eastern conflict is
creating for the citizens of both Palestine and Israel becomes evident. In 2010, UN Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that, almost all of Gaza s 13,000 families who depend
on farming, herding and fishing have suffered damage to their assets during the recent conflict
and many farms have been completely destroyed. Owing to a limited agricultural production,
people in Gaza are facing an acute shortage of nutritious, locally produced and affordable food.
Over 10,000 Palestinian men, women, and children are held in Israeli prisons. Few of which have
had a legitimate trial reporting that Physical abuse and torture are frequent. Palestinian borders are
frequently controlled by Israeli forces. Periodically men, women, and children are strip searched,
people are beaten, food and medicine are blocked from entering Gaza, producing an

Chronic Migraines Essay
It s normal to experience headaches every now and then. However, frequent headaches that occur
15 days or more in a month could be a sign of a chronic headache. This is an umbrella term that
encompasses several types:
Chronic Migraine
Chronic tension type headache
New daily persistent headache
Hemicrania continua
Although similar in scope, these headaches have symptoms that differentiate themselves from one
another. Chronic migraines are the most common type of headache. This type often occurs in
people with a history of episodic migraines. The symptoms include a severe, throbbing pain that
affects one or both sides of the head. Light sensitivity, feelings of nausea and possibly vomiting are
associated with these symptoms.

How Did The American Government Affect South Korea
After the Japanese invasion, Korea had been swept into turmoil, which lead to the division of the
country into two separate states. In the North the Democratic People s Republic of Korea,
(D.P.R.K.) and in the South the Republic of Korea, (R.O.K.). The United States presence in South
Korea would remain until an independent and unified Korean government was established
successfully in the country. Following the impact of the Korean War, South Koreahas undergone
significant reform, which has aided in many changes in the cultural, economic, and political growth
in the country. In 1945, the Japanese Army surrendered as the Union of Soviet Socialist (USSR)
crushed them in battle and advanced through Korea. When the United States found out they feared
the USSR would take over the Peninsula and had to take action. With the USSR already in the
northern region two United States Army colonels started developing a plan to find a dividing line
to separate the country. At this time, the line meant to be a provisional administrative arrangement
and Korea would eventually come together again under a new government. The USSR backed
communism with North Koreaand America favored capitalism in South Korea. As... Show more

A Comparison of Fahrenheit 451 and Dover Beach Essay
Fahrenheit 451 is a well written book that tells a story of a dream world and one man who wakes
up from that dream. Montag, the protagonist of the story, brings home a book of poetry one day
and begins to read the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold to his wife and her guests. Many
critics think that Bradbury picked this poem because it paralleled life in his book. The poem
Dover Beach can be compared to Fahrenheit 451 because both pieces of writing talk about themes
of true love, fantasy and allover hopelessness.
One of the ways Fahrenheit 451 can be related to Arnold s Dover Beach is by connecting the
absense of true love in both of them. Throughout the book, Montag slowly ... Show more content on

Firemen are there to keep the peace. Beatty even says to Montag quot;I don t think you realize
how important you are, we are, to our happy world as it stands now (62) quot;. He is implying
that they, being the firemen, keep the world that they live in happy, because that is the world they
are used to being happy in. Their land of nonsense information is their dream world that people live
in without thinking of other possibilities for living. The beauty of the real world is masked by the
tall buildings of the city, which the firemen keep up to make the people happy. When people are
discovered hiding books in their houses, they are letting the light of the real world show
through. Outside of the city, the real world really shines through. The gang of men who
memorize books is showing that the real world does exist, though it cannot fully be real without
the actual books. In the poem Dover Beach, Arnold says quot;the world, which seems to lie
before us like a land of dreams, so various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love,
nor light, Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain... quot;. This can be compared to Bradbury s
dream world of the city, which is a land of dreams, yet has no real love, joy, or peace. Yet, quot;we
are here as on a darkling plain quot;.

The True Heroes Of World War II
Scientists of the Manhattan Project: The True Heroes of World War II
The morning of August 15, 1945, Americans rejoiced as World War II came to an end after Japan
had been bombed twice by atomic bombs which completely decimated the cities of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. Most people know this would be the only nuclear attack ever made in history, but what
people do not know would be who created these nuclear weapons, and how they created them. The
Manhattan Project, created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, included the most brilliant scientists
of all time. The President created this project because he obtained information that Germany could
possibly create a nuclear weapon. Essentially, this project began working on the idea because the ...

Without this team, America would not have survived if the Germans ever actually created the
atomic bomb, and Roosevelt knew that. The President created this team because of an issue that
had been brought up to him one month before. Albert Einstein (a future scientist to work on the
Manhattan Project) sent a letter explaining that German scientists had discovered something
unimaginable. It stated:
In the course of the last four months it has been made probable through the work of Joliot in
France as well as Fermi and Szilard in America that it may become possible to set up a nuclear
chain reaction in a large mass of Uranium, by which vast amounts of power and large quantities of
new radium like elements would be generated. Now it appears almost certain that this could be
achieved in the immediate future. (Einstein)
Albert Einstein knew that this could be possible and knew that German scientists had started on
experimenting with the newly found chain reaction in Uranium ore. This shows that Einstein knew
of the dangers of nuclear weapons in the near future and he openly wanted to help the United States
succeed in liberation of the Nazi troops in Europe. Einstein highly recommended Roosevelt to speed
up the experimentation of nuclear. This proves that without the knowledge of Einstein, Germany
would surpass the United States in technological warfare. Roosevelt did not want to fall behind
Germany and be

Analysis of Edmond Burke’s Speech Essay
Analysis of Edmond Burke s Speech on conciliation with America
Edmund Burke was an advocate of reason, order, and peace. Based on his comments in his
speech he believed that as families pass down their possessions to their children, the crown and its
privileges should also be passed down to the colonies. Although Burke was not a supporter of war
but he did have a fondness and empathy for the colonies. He felt that traditional ways of doing
things should be preserved and anything to the contrary was going against nature.
Edmund Burke, born in Dublin in 1729 attended Dublin s Trinity College where he received his
degree in law. After a time he found himself more interested in literary studies and became a writer.

countries, the people, more simple, and of a less mercurial cast, judge of an ill principle in
government only by an actual grievance; here they anticipate the evil, and judge of the pressure of
the grievance by the badness of the principle. They augur misgovernment at a distance; and snuff
the approach of tyranny in every tainted breeze. (Burke, E., 1775) The colonies with all their
learning could not be expected to except these Intolerable Acts against them.
Burke wanted to include the colonists in Parliamentary proceedings and to recognize that the
colonists were English in spirit and mind if not body.
First, the people of the colonies are descendants of Englishmen. England, Sir, is a nation, which still
I hope respects, and formerly adored her freedom. The colonists emigrated from you when this part
of your character was most predominant; and they took this bias and direction the moment they

jealous affection, your colonies become suspicious, restive, and untractable, whenever

Conflict In Religious Conflict
The thesis states that women, minority and children are victimized in the name of religion during
religious wars and riots. It further explores the impact of violence unleashed in the name of
religion on the religious minority, women and children. The main objective of the thesis is to
comprehend the complexity of human behavior during war and religious conflict as portrayed in
the select contemporary novels and draw conclusions. The problem this thesis focuses on is the
recurrent religious animosity and power mongering from the past to the present, and how it is dealt
with in the contemporary novels. All the novels taken for study are from the developing countries.

Inter religious conflict occurs between different religious groups whereas intra religious conflict

Family trilogy
The family trilogy stories The revolt of mother, The death of the hired man, and Neighbour Rosicky
have the same points to discuss, they all have important global society problems. This paper will
determine the main differences and similarities of the texts and answer the questions of
materialism, the woman s role in the family, and the significance of home.
The revolt of mother tells about a woman who lives in a village with her husband and two
children, there some conflicts inside this family. Adoniram Penn, a husband, is a farmer who
decided to build one more barn. Despite the fact, the couple was living in a small, decrepit house,
the man wanted to buy several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their desires and rights were not taken into account, as every impulse to a gender equality was
restricted. In the story, we see an absolutely different turn of events. Sarah was not afraid to
oppose her husband and the surrounding society in order to be happy in a new place of living.
Moreover, when a minister came to talk to her, a woman was adamant in her decisions. She
represented herself from another side, a side of a self confident strong woman: I ve got my own
mind an my own feet, an I m goin to think my own thoughts an go my own ways, an nobody but
the Lord is goin to dictate to me unless I ve a mind to have him (Freeman 19). Finally, a
materialistic problem tends to be in the story. We cannot determine that Penns family is poor.
However, it did not seem to be wealthy. If the husband earned enough money, then he can spend
money for a new barn and new house. All the earnings a father spends on a stock, food and kids.
He had lots of possibilities to build a new house for the past forty years. Instead of that, he decided
to waste money on four more cows. Consequently, they should have managed money appropriately.
Another story, Neighbour Rosicky. It tells about a man, Anton Rosicky who found out about his
bad heart from Dr. Burleigh. For that reason, a man gave up doing serious chores. The man easily
follows the doctor s prescriptions as he has a large family which consists of five sons and one
daughter. They were

My Last Duchess Meaning
The quote from the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning describes the part toward the
end where the Duke is talking to someone about what led to the death of his wife. Evidence
supported by the quote itself, specifically the line Much the same smile? This grew; I gave
commands: / Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands/ As if alive (45 47), leads us to the
conclusion that jealousy and arrogance got the best of the Duke, which made him give the orders to
have his wife killed.
The Duke is perceived to be the jealous, dominating type when it came to his wife who is now
dead; starting with the monk Fra Pandolf, whom he chose to paint the portrait of his wife. He

Benefits Of Running Convection Allowing Models ( Cams )...
1.Introduction
The benefits of running convection allowing models (CAMs) for convective storm prediction
have been demonstrated in a variety of contexts over the past decade (e.g., Done et al. 2004;
Kain et al. 2006; Lean et al. 2008; Kain et al. 2008; Clark et al. 2009; Coniglio et al. 2010;
Schwartz et al. 2009; Sobash et al. 2011; Clark et al. 2010, Clark et al. 2011; Weisman et al. 2013).
As these studies show, much of the value of running CAM forecasts comes from their ability to
provide explicit information about convective properties such as initiation, mode, motion,
longevity, and intensity. To effectively use CAM output in operational forecastingsettings, novel
forms of guidance are needed to summarize these forecast attributes in ways that can be easily
understood by forecasters and other end users.
Toward this end, Sobash et al. (2011), hereafter S11, documented a proof of concept for
producing a next day (12 UTC to 12 UTC) severe convective weather guidance product using
output from deterministic CAM forecasts initialized at 00 UTC. In S11, locations where intense
simulated convective storms occurred were identified using updraft helicity (UH; Kain et al.
2008), a diagnostic designed to detect mid level mesocyclones in CAM output. A threshold was
applied to the UH field to identify severe simulated convection and produce a field of surrogate
severe weather reports, which were then spatially smoothed to create a surrogate severe
probabilistic forecast

Our Nig By Harriet Wilson
Harriet Wilson s novel Our Nig, follows the life of Frado, a young mulatto girl in the household
of a white family in New England. She is abandoned to this family at the age of six because her
mother could not afford to care for her and resented her and the hardships to which her birth had
contributed. The mistress of the household to which Frado is left is a cruel and spiteful woman,
especially towards blacks. When Frado is left in the care of the Bellmont residence as a young girl,
she has no idea of the troubles she would have to face for most of her life. From the very
beginning, neither Mrs. Bellmont, the main antagonist, nor her equally cruel daughter, Mary, show
any hint of compassion or even mercy for the young girl. The story follows Frado and her life in the
Bellmont household.
Mr. Bellmont s attitude towards Frado is not completely out of pure cruelty, in my opinion most
of it is influenced from the economical context in the nineteenth century of America. After all in
the post slavery period of north America, economics was, First and last, of crucial significance.
After the abolishment of slavery in the North blacks were forced back into being subservient into
technically free labor, Because they were given food and shelter. The context of this paragraph
shows signs of this theme, like the conversation between Mr.Bellmont and Mrs.Bellmont : I ll beat
the money out of her, if I can t get her worth any other way, retorted Mrs. B. sharply. (Willson 90).

The Theory Of Corporate Social Responsibility
Historical background of the development of CSR is almost as important as the ongoing
discussion on what CSR is and how and where it should operate. Many scholars argue that these are
not interchangeable and need to be assessed in conjunction with each other. For purposes of this
paper it is pivotal to look into the past to see what stood behind the broadening of companies
accountability beyond the standard agency theory (limited liability of shareholders for the company
s violations or breach and the company s main accountability being towards its shareholders and
investors only) to the stakeholder theory (company s accountability towards a broad range of
stakeholders, including employees, environment and local communities). The... Show more content

1970s . It soon found its implementation in Freeman s management discipline , who promoted
the expansion of firms accountability towards a broader range of stakeholders. One of the
examples of how attitude towards CSR by multinational corporations has changed was raised by
Lee, when he reviewed corporate governance codes and practices of Ford . He used two
instances in the history of corporate actions of Ford with an interval of 80 years in between
them. Keeping in mind the abovementioned Clark s remarks on corporate accountability back in
1916, this becomes even more educational, as it shows a dramatic change in shareholders
perception of their business as a service to the broader society. There, in 1919 Ford was faced
with a lawsuit, as a result of which it agreed to grant Dodge brothers their request to receive
maximum dividends . The respective court decision was an indirect ridicule of Henry

Comparing The Gregorian Calendar And The Mayan Calendar
Since the beginning, people have created calendars for order and to value life. Calendars have
provided us a reference for measuring the passage of time throughout our existence. They have
evolved from picking up more information from other ideas and ancient cultures. These include
the Egyptian calendar, the Gregorian calendar (the one we use today) and the Mayan calendar.
Historically, the creation of a calendar that provides both a satisfactory representation of time and
practical value for the ordering of life has proved a vexing problem.
Such problems began with the length of the day, the basic division of calendrical time. Technical
difficulties associated with measuring time on Earth and ignorance of the true structure of the solar

The origins of the calendar in the West can be traced to the astronomical reckoning of the ancient
Egyptians, who devised a system based upon a year of 360 days with an additional five day
intercalation. This system was then adopted by the Romans in 45 bc to replace their flawed
calendar. Forwarded by Julius Caesar under the advisement of the astronomer Sosigenes, the
Julian Reform called for an abandonment of lunation and for reliance on a completely solar
calendar. The resulting discrepancy produced significant conflicts between calendar dates and the
observable seasons over the course of the ensuing centuries. Nevertheless, the new system proved
vastly superior to its predecessor. It was accepted throughout the Roman world, and in 325 ad
made the official doctrine of Christendom by the first Council of Nicea. The system instituted the
leap year, adding one day to the calendar every four years, but even with the leap year fix it was
unsatisfactory the Julian year was still 11 minutes and 14 seconds longer than the tropical

Positive Effects Of Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment is physical infliction used as a form of discipline that is often practiced on
children. It is used for children to experience pain without causing injuries. The use of corporal
punishment is typically intended to minimize or correct negative behaviors. Common acts of
corporal punishment can include spankingand/or slapping. According to Straus and Mouradian
(2016), one third of parents use corporal punishmentas their primary choice of discipline.
Externalizing behaviors, such as aggressionand attention problems, can be seen as negative or
undesirable behaviors that parents tend to address and correct immediately. Unfortunately, corporal
punishment is not an effective form of discipline, but it instead increases the likelihood of
developing externalizing behaviors. There has been extensive research done that supports the idea
of corporal punishment leading to externalizing behaviors in children. In a study of two hundred
and eighteen children, researchers found that higher levels of corporal punishment were directly
associated with higher levels of externalizing behaviors (Mendez, Durtschi, Neppl, Stith, 2016).
Another study in Santiago, Chile, nine hundred and nineteen adolescents also reported having
higher externalizing behaviors due to corporal punishment (Ma, Han, Grogan Kaylor, Delva,

Themes and Fate in The Awakening and Madame Bovary
Kate Chopin s The Awakening and Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary are both tales of women
indignant with their domestic situations; the distinct differences between the two books can be
found in the authors unique tones. Both authors weave similar themes into their writings such as,
the escape from the monotony of domestic life, dissatisfaction with marital expectations and
suicide. References to fate abound throughout both works. In The Awakening, Chopin uses fate to

The Awakening) As she explores her world, other men, swimming, and her other romantic pursuits,

Drug Abuse Among Teens Essay
A commercial once aired on television describing the effects of smoking on the brain. It began
with a person holding an egg and saying, This is your brain . The person then cracked the egg
into a frying pan and as the egg sizzled the voice was heard saying, This is your brain on drugs .
The message was powerful while at the same time informative. Smoking not only affects a person
physically, but mentally as well. However, most people do not know the severe mental damage
smoking inflicts since the focus is primarily on the physical effects. Drug abuse is becoming a
growing problem among teenagers. According to the National Center on Addictionand Substance

They can become very distant and quiet or loud and violent. No one can be certain how drugs
will affect their behavior, but the change is not usually for the better. Many people enter a state
where they stop caring about everything including the things they once treasured more than
anything. In as little as two weeks, nicotine can change the brain s chemistry and thus change a
person s behavior. In order to understand the effects of smoking, researchers have examined the
change drugs impose on the brain. The brain stem controls basic functions such as heart rate,
breathing, eating, and sleeping. When one of these basic needs must be fulfilled, the brain stem
structures can direct the rest of the brain and body to work toward that need. While these
structures may be simple, they wield powerful effects on our behavior. On top of the brain stem
lies the limbic system. The limbic system deals with our emotions, motivations, feelings, and
survival needs. The two largest limbic structures, the hippocampus and the amygdale, are essential
for memory storage. Sensory information flows from the cortex to these brain regions, which take
into account what is going on inside the brain and body and then instruct the cortex to store what
is important.2 Drug abuse plays such a powerful role in a person s emotions and behavior because
it acts directly on the limbic system and brain stem, which override the cortex in controlling
behavior. The feeling of

Essay On Sexuality In Bram Stoker s Dracula
Voluptuous Sexuality
Although in modern times people are exposed to sexuality from a young age through
advertisements, media, and pop culture, during the Victorian era in England, the only acceptable
exploration of repressed sexual desire was through a book that upholds the Christian belief of
sexuality s corruptive effects on society. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, a gothic, horror novel, Dracula, a
vampire from Transylvania, preys on Mina Harker, a devoted Christian and intelligent woman, and
Lucy Westenra, an innocent, young woman pursued by three suitors, by luring them and sucking

repulsed by and attracted to the vampires, Jonathan experiences sexual desires, and while
recounting it in his journal, he focuses on sensory images, the mouth, skin, and throat, describing
the experience as ecstasy and mirroring the images of sex scenes. The women tempt Jonathan with
their sexualized appearance, but giving into their enchantment would lead to the ultimate
punishment for sin, being brutally attacked and turned into a vampire. Moreover, the pauses and
waiting periods that Jonathan experiences expose the sexual tension prolonging the temptation and
sin. Voyeurism further compounds the sinfulness of Jonathan s interactions with the female
vampires. Multiple women who are not his wife entice him while one engages in sexual behavior
with him, and the others watch and await their opportunity (Green). A religious man and a serious
person, Jonathan falls to the evils of sexuality, lusting for the female vampire.

I had the privilege of attending the Bush House Museum here in Salem. I went on Sunday

with Tuberculosis and so the children only lived with him after that while later moving forth
with their own lives as adults. However, I have declined to provide a ticket due to this following
reason: my good colleague, Karen Howard and I got lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum.

Analysis Of On Painting By Leon Alberti
On Painting by Leon Alberti is, in essence, a book of guidelines for novice painters. Alberti explains
that since paintings are meant to represent things that are seen, they need also be approached this
way. In his theory, he breaks up the way of painting into three important components
circumscription, composition, and the reception of light. Within these three are guidelines for the
portrayal of subjects, spaces and emotion.
In the historia, or the work of the painter, there is circumscription, the first step in painting that is
defined by Alberti as the recording of external outlines. He explains that this step should be given
special attention and, В¬in fact, suggests that composition and reception of light should mean
nothing without it. Alberti says that to do circumscription well one must outline everything with a
visible line, and then use a veil. He describes this veil as a layout of parallel lines that allow for the
correct depiction of objects regardless of the position they are in.
Next, Alberti describes the painting component composition, which is the way that objects in a
painting fit together in relationship to one another. It is in this explanation that Alberti delves into
dealing with the perspective of a painting as a whole. As Alberti mentioned in his veil concept,
parallel lines also play a role in constructing objects with angles that rise from the ground. He
explains that by adding perpendicular lines to the parallels, creating a grid, one can measure out the
length and width that every object will be.
A composition must also be well depicted when painting human subjects. Alberti instructs on
methods such as sketching the bones and muscles first and proportioning muscles using the head or
length of the foot. He also highlights the importance of all members of the body looking consistent
and fulfilling the function of what they are doing. The dead should look dead and the living
otherwise. Humans and their actions must be consistent with other subjects in the painting as well.
For depicting emotion, Alberti insists on the use of seven positional body movements that would
apply to both living and inanimate objects, these include up/down, right/left, away/towards and in
rotation. The

The Possible Causes of Cleft Lip and Palate
Cleft lip and/or palate is a condition where the tissue of the lip did not completely close during
embryotic formation that affects 1 in 700 people born. Though not immediately fatal, the
disorder can cause complications with consuming and speech that could lead to more serious
problems. The only way to fix the gap is to surgically go in and sew the two sides of the lip
/palate together; this is a comparable easier and faster solution than other solutions out there for
different disorders. Many people who get the surgery recover fine, have slight physical
differences, and are able to succeed in society like anyone else (condition does not hinder mental
state or ability drastically). This condition has many different phenotypes that fall in two
categories, unilateral cleft and bilateral cleft (Dixon et al., 2011). In a unilateral cleft, only one
side of the palate or lip is affected (asymmetrical) while in a bilateral cleft, both sides are affected
usually in a symmetric pattern. Because of the large range of phenotypes, it is very difficult to
trace back to certain genes and factors and figure out how these factors together influence the
expression of the trait. Cleft lip and/or palate can be expressed by itself, called non syndromic, or
with other conditions including Kabuki syndrome, called syndromic (Dixon et al., 2011).
Depending on the type of disorder, this condition is caused by different chromosomes and mutations
on these chromosomes. For example, if it is indeed

When the girl in the poem is growing up, she was like all the other girls her age: presented dolls

primarily as housewives or stay at home moms. They are given dolls that act like children which
are symbolic of the idea that the young girls can practice being mothers of their children they are

The author uses a simile to compare the girl s good nature to a rubber belt in a car that makes the
engine run. The girl was always being called names and was made fun of and if it happens once
you brush it off but once it is repeated over and over again it starts to really affect you but she
had a good natured personality so she could live with the bullying, her good nature kept her alive
this is similar to a fan belt in a car because the rubber is constantly under a little bit of friction not
enough to affect it one time but over the course of years it slowly wears out but until it actually
breaks the car could still run normally. The use of this simile is extremely important because
rubber wears out if it is constantly being used to move the vehicle which causes friction.
Likewise, the girl s good nature was in constant employment because of people constantly
bullying her about her appearance, that it wore out and finally snapped. She stops wanting to
live because her good nature was keeping her life going so once it was gone so was her life.
When the fan belt on a car wears out and finally snaps, the car can no longer move either, the car
is dead like the girl. Also, fan belts are found on cars which you would associate with men so the
author uses it as the simile to show the reader how when someone isn t

Mozart Clarinet Concerto Essay
Introduction
One of the problems clarinetists of the 21st century face when performing Mozart s Clarinet
Concerto, K. 622, is creating a performance that is memorable while keeping the authentic integrity
of the work. Many clarinetists who perform this work are often concerned with how they should the
approach and execute the concerto. Any musician who tackles any new work will approach it by
researching historical information on the composer and work, do a musical analysis, and gathering
recordings of other interpretations of the same work. This approach will not only allow the
performer to be fully immersed in the piece but allow for the performer to create a memorable
interpretation.

concerto for a solo instrument. The composition of the piece began in 1787 for basset horn in G
with about 200 measures and then was revisited in the last few weeks of Mozart s life in 1791.
When he returned to the piece in 1791, Mozart decided to change the key and the

Are Two CEOs Better Than One? The case of WIPRO

The business environment in India gives an impetus to this model of collegial and collective
leadership. The premium aspect for companies doing business in India is the combination of access
to a highly skilled labour pool and attractive wage levels. The penalties are the uncertainties in the
business environment with respect to infrastructure, power availability, urban transportation and

Companies like Wipro need two CEOs because of the complexity of doing business in India. On

when the future of our city is up in the air (Thucydides, 114). Nicias also argues the practical
issue of fighting a war and then controlling a region that is so far away. Next, the crowd is
addressed by Alcibiades, who is for the expedition and uses tactics similar to Cleon to stir their
emotions. Primarily, Alcibiades constructs a false narrative that necessitates an invasion by
saying that if Athens does not take the fight to Sicily, then Athens will be attacked. He claims
this, of course, without any evidence to suggest that Sicily had any interest in invading Athens at
all. However, just as in the Mytilenean Debate, evidence and reasoning are not critically
scrutinized by Athenians when the speaker is able to play to their fears as Cleon and Alcibiades
do. Additionally, the Athenians abandon their traditional foreign policy of gaining friends through
favors by choosing to instead gain allies by shows of force and acts of cruelty. Unable to make the
crowd see reason nor rise to their former ideals, Nicias loses the debate and planning for the
massive operation

Colonization Of The United States
Colonization in America has demonstrated all of the US history themes of exploration, encounter
and exchange in the Americas. From the beginning of colonization, in 1492 by Christopher
Columbus, to the establishment of the first American colony, Jamestown in 1607, and to the
creation of the thirteen colonies, there have been countless examples of exploration, encounter and
exchange. The exploration of vast waters and unchartered territory led to new and undiscovered
land and America being colonized. During this time of exploration, explorers encountered many
new faces (including Native Americans), crops, animals and even new lifestyles. In addition, with
the increased encounters with the explorers and Natives, there was a massive growth in exchange
of goods between the Europeans and the Natives in the Americas.
The Period of Colonization in America is widely debated, as to what years it is categorized
within. Some say it started as early as 30,000 years ago, the pre Columbus (before 1492) era,
when the Asians crossed the Bering Strait into Alaska. But there is very little written record
before this time, so we don t know much about life during this time period. Then the Vikings
arrived in the year 1000. Many believe that it started in 1492, when Columbus discovered
America and landed in the Bahamas; whereas others believe it started in 1512 when Ponce De
Leon arrived in Florida (the first discovery of, what is now, the US). The ending of this time
period is even more in

The Value Of The Balance Sheet
The main purpose of the balance sheet is to reflect and explain the accounting equation: Assets =
Liabilities + Owner s Equity. This equation is the fundamental model for recording and reporting
transactions. It is essentially useful for showing what the company owns, what the company owes,
and what does the owner s equity remains. The ordering of the assets and the liabilities help the
user to assess the liquidity of the company. For our purpose focusing on Walt Disney World, we are
primarily focused on their assets and liabilities. In analyzing the balance sheetof our company, we
will explain each aspects of the balance sheet in three separate parts.
To understand how the total assets changed within a year, we shall look at each aspects of the
assets. In the cash and cash equivalent, we have seen that the cash in hand decreased in 2013
from $3,931 to $3,421 in 2014. This shall shows that the company may have spent cash on
inventories and other goods for the benefit of the company. In the receivables aspect, the amount
of receivables has begun to increase from 2013 to 2014 with an increase rate of 11.6%. In other
terms, it increased from $6,967 in 2013 to $7,822 in 2014. This was an infinitesimal increase and
it shows that the company had a lot of companies owing them for the purchase of the Walt Disney
Products and land usage. Another way of saying is that other companies may be purchasing land
from Disney to sell their products and expand their companies to wider

A Brief Note On Robert Moses, Richard Ravitch And Othmar...
Throughout the course of history there have been many advances in the world of infrastructure,
mostly occurring in the 1800 s and the 1900 s. Infrastructure is defined as the basic physical and
organizational structure needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the services and
facilities necessary for an economy to function. This definition shows how important infrastructure
is to people s lives today. It affects how people live, travel, and communicate with one another.
Three men who made huge contributions in the world of infrastructure were Robert Moses, Richard
Ravitch and Othmar Hermann Ammann. All three of these men were involved in designing
numerous landmarks, highways, bridges, tunnels, and other forms of infrastructure that today we
take for granted. Although all of these men were involved in infrastructure in the New York
metropolitan area, their contributions, personalities, and the public s opinion of them were all
different. Robert Moses was born in New Haven Connecticut. He is considered the master builder
of New York City, Long Island, Rockland county, and Westchester county of the mid 1900 s.
After graduating from Yale and earning a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia, Robert
Moses became attracted to New York City reform politics. Moses caught the notice of Belle
Moskowitz, an advisor to Al Smith. Moses rose to power with Al Smith, who became governor of
New York in 1922. Robert Moses was in charge in the development of Jones Beach

The Assassination Of Adolf Hitler In The Movie Valkyrie
Bottom line. I m engaged in high treason with all means available to me. Can I count you in?. is
a quote said by Col. Stauffenberg while planning the assassination of Adolf Hitler in the movie
Valkyrie . The movie stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, Kenneth Branagh as
Major General Henning von Tresckow, and Bill Nighy as General Friedrich Olbricht. Valkyrie
was directed by Bryan Singer and produced by Gilbert Adler. Written by Christopher McQuarrie.
Distributed by Metro Goldwyn Mayer in 2008. Valkyrie is a true story about the attempted
assassinations of Hitler by his own German Officers during WWII. The story starts out in Northern

Everything from the names of committee members to the the place Hitler is assassinated are all
true. Stauffenberg was a real figure and played as a very important role in the assassination of
Hitler in both the movie and in history. The Wolf s Lair scene is depicted accurately with precise
details, and Stauffenberg was the one who actually attempted the assassination. The whole
aspect of the pencil detonator, Stauffenberg s escape by car, and the failed assassination are all
real. All of the weapons and uniforms in the movie are accurately depicted. Despite this movie
being very accurate, there are two things that critics point out as false. One being when
Stauffenberg flies back to Wolfschanze in a Ju 52 transport aircraft. That is false, because in
reality he flew back in an He 111 bomber. Another thing the movie portrays falsely is the character
Fellgiebel, the general confronted by Stauffenberg. In the movie, he wants nothing to do with the
plot and only agrees to pull a few switchboard lines at the critical moment. However, in reality he
very involved with the plot and specialized around the communications part of it. Even though
these things are considered inaccurate, ther were most likely added for dramatic effect and didn t

Gryffindor House Subculture Analysis
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is comprised of a vast number of cultures that contain even
more subcultures. At Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Gryffindor House, one of
the four subculture houses, is made up of a diverse group of wizards who still seem to share the
same values and beliefs. The analysis of the Gryffindor House through the Anthropological Pentad
allows for one to completely understand the depth of the subculture. The wizards and witches of the
Gryffindor House all have a similar sense of morality, bravery, courage, and determination, in which
they pride themselves on, and is a deciding factor in their appointment into this house. The students
that represent Gryffindor have high moral standards and a natural instinct to always do the right
thing and fight for their beliefs no matter the consequences. These ideologies have been exemplified
by the founder of the Gryffindor House, Godric Gryffindor, in an attempt to encourage students who
have the same traits. However, these students can often be seen as reckless, due to their... Show

physical. Physical courage, the ability to stand up for what you believe in moments of adrenaline

mental aspect to acting on your feet. Art like the Sword of Gryffindor is highly valued because it

How Does Gruwell Show Courage
Hidden Gems
How often do you see a white teacher transform a class full of recalcitrant students from different
races and backgrounds to a class full of great individuals? That is what happened in the movie
Freedom Writers. Erin Gruwell is the white teacher and the students are class 203 of Woodrow
Wilson High School. At the beginning, class 203 is just a bunch of people who hate learningand
have no future. However, it all changes since the presence of Erin Gruwell. She approaches this
unteachable class and starts to develop their emotional intelligence. From students who like to
neglect the lesson, refuse listening to the teacher, and do not care about each other, they start to
show changes in their learning skill. Ultimately, two of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But at the start of the movie, the students, notably Marcus and Eva show no enthusiasm nor
compassion in anything and anyone. Nevertheless, the first empathy is shown when the
students come to visit the Holocaust Museum. They are stunned by how they have so much
better situation than the Holocaust survivors. From that moment, Marcus and Eva start to
develop their empathy skill. There is a scene where a guy named Miguel comes up to the middle
of the class and starts to read his journal. Miguel shares his struggle about his early life and how
he is now happy that he has found a new home, class 203. And then, Marcus, a guy who seems
very quiet and tough, approaches him and gives him his empathy. He shakes his hand, hugs
him, and even sheds tears, showing that he empathizes for Miguel.. That scene warms me and I
feel empathy for Miguel as well. A similar situation of empathy is also being displayed by Eva
when she chooses to defend the truth by telling the court that Paco, her boyfriend is the one who
killed the guy in the store instead of the black guy. By saying the truth, she betrays her own
people but she does the right and that shows how she has changed and developed her empathy.
According to Paul Wong s article about empathy he notes that ... individuals are more likely to be
empathic to others, when they have experienced many hardships and are well acquainted with
sorrows and sufferings. This is what I see in the movie, Marcus and Eva realize that they all came
from the same background; that they must fight for their lives, dignity, and existence. Thus, both
Marcus and Eva develop what Wong would call the experiential empathy which is a type of
empathy that is developed when one has experienced other s difficulties. Eventually, Marcus and
Eva start to have an appreciation for Miss Gruwell as a teacher and have empathy toward one
another that elevates the

Inclusion For Students With Special Needs
In the Education discipline, there has been a long debate for many years over the topic of inclusion.
Inclusive education is defined as students with disabilities, being supported in age appropriate
general education classrooms, at their home school, and receiving specialized instruction as needed
per the student s IEP (Individualized EducationProgram) within the general education class
curriculum and activities. Inclusion is there to help student with special needs in attending school
regularly with their friends and peers while being accommodated as needed, per their IEP, to help
achieve the student s academic goals and be successful. The topic of inclusion has been
researched for many years. Inclusion will continue to be researched, so that faculty and teachers at
elementary schools can continue to better themselves in inclusion practices for students with
special need, and also to continue to progress towards full inclusion of these students with special
needs in a general education classroom. Since there is a lot in the news about inclusion in schools
across the U.S., for this essay, I began my search about inclusion in the Education discipline by
finding scholarly articles on the subject, along with other online news sources concerning this
subject in my area of study. By doing so, I hope to have a better understanding of inclusion than I
have already attained, so that I am better able to create possible ideas for topics to write future

Vostok Lab Report
Title: Global warming, a natural interglacial change on temperature.
Abstract:
Global warming has been widely discussed all around the world as it is an issue that affects the
living of all mankind in the world. It is argued that the anthropogenic changes posse more influence
on the climate change to the Earth, compared to the naturally driven glacial and interglacial
changes in temperature. This report is based on the Vostok Core by faculty at Columbia University
as an example for us to investigate global climate change. Author of this report believes global
warming is just part of the long term temperature fluctuation during the interglacial period as there
is no convincing and valid evidence that shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CO2, dust and CH4 are the main source of greenhouses gases, which are produced mainly by
human activities. If that is the case, the composition of CO2, dust and CH4 should be coherent to
the change of temperature of the Earth. Yet, it is not shown from the data.
Moreover, there are lots of different factors that keep affecting the temperature of the Earth. The
energy of the sun, the albedo effect, Milakovitch Cycles, plate tectonics are the examples of the
factors that affect the temperature.
Conclusion
To conclude, based the given data, it is difficult to prove that anthropogentic changes are stronger
than the glacial and interglacial changes in temperature, as there are not enough valid evidence
from the lab. Studying climate change is not a short term issue. However, due to the limited
technology level and the knowledge of the Earth, we could not obtain concise data to investigate
the climate change. The ice core could be one of the proxies that help us to understand the climatic
condition in the past. It is suggested to compare more other proxies, in order to draw conclusion of
the main reason and the trend of climate change.

The Age Of Spiritual Machines
In The Age of Spiritual Machines, Ray Kurzweil forecasts the future with advancements based on
the accelerating increase in technology intelligence. Kurzweil makes a series of predictions
starting at the year 2009 and going to 2099 with several main categories including warfare. In 2009
Kurzweil predicts that humans are generally far removed from the scene of battle and that warfare
is dominated by unmanned intelligent airborne devices (Kurzweil 197). The use of technology has
definitely increased in warfare and has saved tens of thousands of human lives. Kurzweil believes
that the human element in fighting wars will become obsolete. Instead of humans fighting in the

This is due to the fact that a war that consists entirely of machines would be impossible to fund,
humans will always have the instinct to fight, and today we do not have the technology
enabling machines to be able to make ethical decisions that humans can. The ability to fund a
war consisting entirely of machines would be an impossible feat for the wealthiest nations, let
alone one severely in debt like our own. The United States is currently experiencing a national
debt of over $18.4 trillion which is continuing to rise at an unprecedented rate(usdebtclock.org).
At a cost of approximately $40 million dollars the U.S. has developed the RQ 1 Predator drone
(militaryfactory.com). Although it does play an important role in today s warfare, with the
national debt continuing to rise there is no way the United States [could continue being] the
world s dominant military power by producing an army of machines as Kurzweil foresees. Some
might say that spending in the military has never stopped us before why should it now? If we
increase our spending in the military by such a degree we will reach our debt ceiling just as we
did in October of 2013 essentially causing a government shutdown. This is why we continue to
see the use of humans in war simply because humans are the most economical way to fight a war
and to remain the world s dominant military power. We are all taught that fighting is bad and to
stay away from any form of physical

Analysis Of The Wicked And The Just
The book written by J. Anderson Coats called The Wicked and the Just, is about a girl named
Cecily who moves to Caernarvon with her father, leaving her relatives and friends. They moved
to a manor there and her father received a job to prevent any conflict that the Welshmen causes.
On the other hand, another girl named Gwenhwfar is a Welsh who becomes Cecily s maid instead
of the mistress of the manor that Cecily moved into. There are many ways to share the point of
view of characters like in first person and third person. In this case, the story was written by the
author in a dual narrativeof both girls, but mainly narrative from Cecily. Since she wrote it in dual
narrative, there must be a purpose to it.

Nessy hadn t been hurt but beside that she had no other evidence to prove their innocence.
Compared to Gwenhwfar s angle, she has reasons to prove their innocence like them giving some

Characters In Roald Dahl s The Black Cat And The Landlady
Christopher Lee once said, There is a dark side in all of us. And for us bad people, the bad side
dominates. I think there is a great sadness in villains, and I have tried to put that across. We
cannot stop ourselves doing what we are doing. All humans, have a dark side to them, people
know they are doing something wrong, however, they cannot stop themselves from doing the
action. There is a sadness behind the actions someone takes and maybe even a tiny ounce of guilt
however, it doesn t stop them from having the flaws. In strange and mysterious stories, it is easy
to see the flaws and faults of a character. In Roald Dahl s The Landlady, Edgar Allan Poes The
Black Cat, and John Collier s The Chaser , the character flaws are revealed throughout the story.
In The Landlady, Billy s flaw is in his absent minded behavior. Billy is not aware of the people
around him and his surroundings. He comes to Bath, England to look for a job. He comes across
this house that is compelling him, even though he originally wanted to stay at the Bell and
Dragon, a hotel. However, he is drawn to the house, which he doesn t find weird and he isn t
confused why all of a sudden his mind changes. He finds out that there is a room in the house
that he can rent. The landlady looks at him all over his body as if analyzing him, but he pays no
attention to the fact the landlady is really interested in his physique or even to the fact, that the
room is prepped for a person. It seems to us

The Pros And Cons Of The IMF In Pakistan
The IMF has a history with the country of Pakistan which may be viewed as very problematic
for the people of the country depending on who you ask. In my research for one specific problem
to write about pertaining this issue, I decided to encompass the entire project of Pakistan, which to
many would be considered a massive failure on the part of the IMF and the ruling elite class of
Pakistan.
Pakistan gained its independence in 1947, and was mostly under martial law until 1984, four years
before the IMF started granting loans to Pakistan that would never be repaid. Despite having a
historic culture and ample natural resources, Pakistan as a country cannot seem to keep it s head

The first is that they did not come in even increments. Shortly after the loans were given
conditions would stabilize, but then according to Dr. Ehtisham Ahmad, when these inflows
declined, the economy quickly headed towards fiscal and balance of payments crises. (Ahmad,
E., Mohammed, A., 2012). It is hard for industry to ever stabilize when you are constantly
battling credit crises. Since the country can t always meet the conditions of the loans from the
IMF, the US has gleefully stepped up to lend the country money, but at what cost? According to
Dr. Ehtisham Ahmad, The foundation of the relationship with the US is based on Pakistan s
strategic location at the mouth of the Persian Gulf . (Ahmad, E., Mohammed, A., 2012). So the
IMF is setting Pakistan up for failure with it s stop and go lending, allowing the US to enter the
picture as a lender in return for certain political favors involving the land. So in it s series of loans
to Pakistan, it has stripped the independence from the country and helped other nations come in to

widely known in accordance with Hearst s case, she claimed that the group convinced her that her
parents did not love her. Patty Hearst was tried very publically and declared that she was not guilty,
yet the jury did not believe her. The case of Hearst it was the most public and media involved
court case that the United States had seen up to this point in time. Hearst claimed that her
actions with the SLA were a result of intimidation, fear, and brainwashing; she stated that she
had been kept in a small closet, blindfolded for two months, and was psychologically
manipulated. Her defense stated that she had no choice but to act as she did. The prosecution
denied her brainwashing claim and said that she was one of their expert witnesses a rebel in
search of a cause. The prosecution emphasized the fact that Hearst had been rebellious prior to
the kidnapping and this was just another act of her rebellion. After a 5week trial, the jury
convicted Hearst of bank robbery. Heart s very famous defense lawyer, F. Lee Bailey, said that
they lost the case for two reasons, the judge improperly allowed evidence into the trial about Hearst
s behavior after the robbery, and the government, the jurors, and many Americans felt that Patty

that the seating areas of the store blocked off all lines of sight for anything other than the back wall

  • 2. Las Vegas Movie Analysis Before watching this movie, I thought Las Vegas is a place that shapes many people s life and decides their destinies. And the only determine factor of winning money is luck. For example, when two people bring the same amount of money to Las Vegas, one of them may become a millionaire and another person may lose everything during one night. However, after watching this movie, my impression to statistics has totally changed. It seems that people can use statistics to help gain the greatest advantages in many circumstances. Also, I saw the dark side in human nature. Teacher Mickey is a main character in the movie. He is a greedy, ambitious person who uses his students to earn money. Obviously, he is not a qualified teacher. Therefore, I think society should pay more attention to select teacher, because teacher can directly influence the next generation. In this movie, the main character Ben is a college student who is good at math. He receives Harford Medical School s offer, however, he doesn t have enough money to pay the tuition. At this time, his calculus professor notices his talent on calculating. Then the professor invites him to become a member of a math group and uses his talent to earn money in Las Vegas. The professor finds that Ben has a gifted brain is because he successfully solves a famous statistic question which is Monty Hall problem . In this problem, one person is on a TV show. The population is 200 finches at Darwin Island, and 200 finches at Wallace Island. The year is 1997, and scientist measured the finch beak size from both Darwin and Wallace Island. On the 2nd experiment, the scientist decided to change the independent variable. The year would continue to start in 1997. The size of the finch beak will remain 12.00 mm. Precipitation will be changed to 9.0 cm for Darwin Island, and 5.0 cm for Wallace Island. If precipitation went down, the size of the finch beak would increase. In 2096, the beak size for the Darwin Island finch was 18.59 mm, while the beak size for the Wallace island finch increase to 18.18 mm. The population increased to 351 for the Darwin Island finch, and 444 for the Wallace Island finch. On the 3rd experiment for Darwin Island, the independent variable was increased to 78.cm, while the independent variable for Wallace Island increased to 68. cm. • 4. Ith Reference to One Major International Conflict, Analyse... With reference to one major international conflict, analyse and assess the geographical impacts of conflicts on the area (40) A conflict is a disagreement caused by the actual or perceived opposition of needs, values and interests between people; which can vary in intensity from political non violent activity, to direct action and violence. When a conflict is created an extensive list of geographical impacts follow, including social, political, environmental or even international impacts. For centuries there was no such conflict. In the 19th century the land of Palestine was inhabited by a multicultural population, approximately 86% Muslim, 10% Christian, and 4% Jewish living in peace. However, in the late 1800s a group in Europe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, Palestinians will lose nearly 18% of their share of the basin s water. The sandy desert soil tends to absorb water and other pollutants such as sewage easily. This along with the groundwater remaining fairly close to the surface leads to easy contamination. This combined with an aging, poorly maintained, and now war damaged sewage system, has led to groundwater pollution, which could severely affect the lives of many. Secondly, the close relation between the social and environmental impacts that this Middle Eastern conflict is creating for the citizens of both Palestine and Israel becomes evident. In 2010, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that, almost all of Gaza s 13,000 families who depend on farming, herding and fishing have suffered damage to their assets during the recent conflict and many farms have been completely destroyed. Owing to a limited agricultural production, people in Gaza are facing an acute shortage of nutritious, locally produced and affordable food. Over 10,000 Palestinian men, women, and children are held in Israeli prisons. Few of which have had a legitimate trial reporting that Physical abuse and torture are frequent. In the North the Democratic People s Republic of Korea, (D.P.R.K.) and in the South the Republic of Korea, (R.O.K.). The United States presence in South Korea would remain until an independent and unified Korean government was established successfully in the country. Following the impact of the Korean War, South Koreahas undergone significant reform, which has aided in many changes in the cultural, economic, and political growth in the country. In 1945, the Japanese Army surrendered as the Union of Soviet Socialist (USSR) crushed them in battle and advanced through Korea. When the United States found out they feared the USSR would take over the Peninsula and had to take action. With the USSR already in the northern region two United States Army colonels started developing a plan to find a dividing line to separate the country. • 7. A Comparison of Fahrenheit 451 and Dover Beach Essay Fahrenheit 451 is a well written book that tells a story of a dream world and one man who wakes up from that dream. Montag, the protagonist of the story, brings home a book of poetry one day and begins to read the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold to his wife and her guests. Many critics think that Bradbury picked this poem because it paralleled life in his book. The poem Dover Beach can be compared to Fahrenheit 451 because both pieces of writing talk about themes of true love, fantasy and allover hopelessness. One of the ways Fahrenheit 451 can be related to Arnold s Dover Beach is by connecting the absense of true love in both of them. Throughout the book, Montag slowly ... Beatty even says to Montag quot;I don t think you realize how important you are, we are, to our happy world as it stands now (62) quot;. He is implying that they, being the firemen, keep the world that they live in happy, because that is the world they are used to being happy in. Their land of nonsense information is their dream world that people live in without thinking of other possibilities for living. The beauty of the real world is masked by the tall buildings of the city, which the firemen keep up to make the people happy. When people are discovered hiding books in their houses, they are letting the light of the real world show through. Outside of the city, the real world really shines through. The gang of men who memorize books is showing that the real world does exist, though it cannot fully be real without the actual books. In the poem Dover Beach, Arnold says quot;the world, which seems to lie before us like a land of dreams, so various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain... quot;. This can be compared to Bradbury s dream world of the city, which is a land of dreams, yet has no real love, joy, or peace. Yet, quot;we are here as on a darkling plain quot;. The True Heroes Of World War II Scientists of the Manhattan Project: The True Heroes of World War II The morning of August 15, 1945, Americans rejoiced as World War II came to an end after Japan had been bombed twice by atomic bombs which completely decimated the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Most people know this would be the only nuclear attack ever made in history, but what people do not know would be who created these nuclear weapons, and how they created them. The Manhattan Project, created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, included the most brilliant scientists of all time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without this team, America would not have survived if the Germans ever actually created the atomic bomb, and Roosevelt knew that. The President created this team because of an issue that had been brought up to him one month before. Albert Einstein (a future scientist to work on the Manhattan Project) sent a letter explaining that German scientists had discovered something unimaginable. It stated: In the course of the last four months it has been made probable through the work of Joliot in France as well as Fermi and Szilard in America that it may become possible to set up a nuclear chain reaction in a large mass of Uranium, by which vast amounts of power and large quantities of new radium like elements would be generated. Now it appears almost certain that this could be achieved in the immediate future. (Einstein) Albert Einstein knew that this could be possible and knew that German scientists had started on experimenting with the newly found chain reaction in Uranium ore. This shows that Einstein knew of the dangers of nuclear weapons in the near future and he openly wanted to help the United States succeed in liberation of the Nazi troops in Europe. Einstein highly recommended Roosevelt to speed up the experimentation of nuclear. This proves that without the knowledge of Einstein, Germany would surpass the United States in technological warfare. Based on his comments in his speech he believed that as families pass down their possessions to their children, the crown and its privileges should also be passed down to the colonies. Although Burke was not a supporter of war but he did have a fondness and empathy for the colonies. • 17. Benefits Of Running Convection Allowing Models ( Cams )... 1.Introduction The benefits of running convection allowing models (CAMs) for convective storm prediction have been demonstrated in a variety of contexts over the past decade (e.g., Done et al. 2004; Kain et al. 2006; Lean et al. 2008; Kain et al. 2008; Clark et al. 2009; Coniglio et al. 2010; Schwartz et al. 2009; Sobash et al. 2011; Clark et al. 2010, Clark et al. 2011; Weisman et al. 2013). As these studies show, much of the value of running CAM forecasts comes from their ability to provide explicit information about convective properties such as initiation, mode, motion, longevity, and intensity. To effectively use CAM output in operational forecastingsettings, novel forms of guidance are needed to summarize these forecast attributes in ways that can be easily understood by forecasters and other end users. Toward this end, Sobash et al. (2011), hereafter S11, documented a proof of concept for producing a next day (12 UTC to 12 UTC) severe convective weather guidance product using output from deterministic CAM forecasts initialized at 00 UTC. In S11, locations where intense simulated convective storms occurred were identified using updraft helicity (UH; Kain et al. 2008), a diagnostic designed to detect mid level mesocyclones in CAM output. A threshold was applied to the UH field to identify severe simulated convection and produce a field of surrogate severe weather reports, which were then spatially smoothed to create a surrogate severe probabilistic forecast ... She is abandoned to this family at the age of six because her mother could not afford to care for her and resented her and the hardships to which her birth had contributed. The mistress of the household to which Frado is left is a cruel and spiteful woman, especially towards blacks. When Frado is left in the care of the Bellmont residence as a young girl, she has no idea of the troubles she would have to face for most of her life. From the very beginning, neither Mrs. Bellmont, the main antagonist, nor her equally cruel daughter, Mary, show any hint of compassion or even mercy for the young girl. The story follows Frado and her life in the Bellmont household. Mr. Bellmont s attitude towards Frado is not completely out of pure cruelty, in my opinion most of it is influenced from the economical context in the nineteenth century of America. After all in the post slavery period of north America, economics was, First and last, of crucial significance. After the abolishment of slavery in the North blacks were forced back into being subservient into technically free labor, Because they were given food and shelter. The Theory Of Corporate Social Responsibility Historical background of the development of CSR is almost as important as the ongoing discussion on what CSR is and how and where it should operate. Many scholars argue that these are not interchangeable and need to be assessed in conjunction with each other. For purposes of this paper it is pivotal to look into the past to see what stood behind the broadening of companies accountability beyond the standard agency theory (limited liability of shareholders for the company s violations or breach and the company s main accountability being towards its shareholders and investors only) to the stakeholder theory (company s accountability towards a broad range of stakeholders, including employees, environment and local communities). It soon found its implementation in Freeman s management discipline , who promoted the expansion of firms accountability towards a broader range of stakeholders. He used two instances in the history of corporate actions of Ford with an interval of 80 years in between them. Calendars have provided us a reference for measuring the passage of time throughout our existence. They have evolved from picking up more information from other ideas and ancient cultures. These include the Egyptian calendar, the Gregorian calendar (the one we use today) and the Mayan calendar. Historically, the creation of a calendar that provides both a satisfactory representation of time and practical value for the ordering of life has proved a vexing problem. Such problems began with the length of the day, the basic division of calendrical time. The origins of the calendar in the West can be traced to the astronomical reckoning of the ancient Egyptians, who devised a system based upon a year of 360 days with an additional five day intercalation. Forwarded by Julius Caesar under the advisement of the astronomer Sosigenes, the Julian Reform called for an abandonment of lunation and for reliance on a completely solar calendar. The resulting discrepancy produced significant conflicts between calendar dates and the observable seasons over the course of the ensuing centuries. Nevertheless, the new system proved vastly superior to its predecessor. It was accepted throughout the Roman world, and in 325 ad made the official doctrine of Christendom by the first Council of Nicea. • 22. Positive Effects Of Corporal Punishment Corporal punishment is physical infliction used as a form of discipline that is often practiced on children. It is used for children to experience pain without causing injuries. The use of corporal punishment is typically intended to minimize or correct negative behaviors. Common acts of corporal punishment can include spankingand/or slapping. According to Straus and Mouradian (2016), one third of parents use corporal punishmentas their primary choice of discipline. Externalizing behaviors, such as aggressionand attention problems, can be seen as negative or undesirable behaviors that parents tend to address and correct immediately. Unfortunately, corporal punishment is not an effective form of discipline, but it instead increases the likelihood of developing externalizing behaviors. There has been extensive research done that supports the idea of corporal punishment leading to externalizing behaviors in children. In a study of two hundred and eighteen children, researchers found that higher levels of corporal punishment were directly associated with higher levels of externalizing behaviors (Mendez, Durtschi, Neppl, Stith, 2016). Another study in Santiago, Chile, nine hundred and nineteen adolescents also reported having higher externalizing behaviors due to corporal punishment (Ma, Han, Grogan Kaylor, Delva, Castillo, 2012). In as little as two weeks, nicotine can change the brain s chemistry and thus change a person s behavior. In order to understand the effects of smoking, researchers have examined the change drugs impose on the brain. The brain stem controls basic functions such as heart rate, breathing, eating, and sleeping. When one of these basic needs must be fulfilled, the brain stem structures can direct the rest of the brain and body to work toward that need. While these structures may be simple, they wield powerful effects on our behavior. On top of the brain stem lies the limbic system. The limbic system deals with our emotions, motivations, feelings, and survival needs. The two largest limbic structures, the hippocampus and the amygdale, are essential for memory storage. Sensory information flows from the cortex to these brain regions, which take into account what is going on inside the brain and body and then instruct the cortex to store what is important.2 Drug abuse plays such a powerful role in a person s emotions and behavior because it acts directly on the limbic system and brain stem, which override the cortex in controlling behavior. • 28. Analysis Of On Painting By Leon Alberti On Painting by Leon Alberti is, in essence, a book of guidelines for novice painters. Alberti explains that since paintings are meant to represent things that are seen, they need also be approached this way. In his theory, he breaks up the way of painting into three important components circumscription, composition, and the reception of light. Within these three are guidelines for the portrayal of subjects, spaces and emotion. In the historia, or the work of the painter, there is circumscription, the first step in painting that is defined by Alberti as the recording of external outlines. He explains that this step should be given special attention and, В¬in fact, suggests that composition and reception of light should mean nothing without it. Alberti says that to do circumscription well one must outline everything with a visible line, and then use a veil. He describes this veil as a layout of parallel lines that allow for the correct depiction of objects regardless of the position they are in. Next, Alberti describes the painting component composition, which is the way that objects in a painting fit together in relationship to one another. It is in this explanation that Alberti delves into dealing with the perspective of a painting as a whole. As Alberti mentioned in his veil concept, parallel lines also play a role in constructing objects with angles that rise from the ground. He explains that by adding perpendicular lines to the parallels, creating a grid, one can measure out the length and width that every object will be. A composition must also be well depicted when painting human subjects. Alberti instructs on methods such as sketching the bones and muscles first and proportioning muscles using the head or length of the foot. He also highlights the importance of all members of the body looking consistent and fulfilling the function of what they are doing. The dead should look dead and the living otherwise. Humans and their actions must be consistent with other subjects in the painting as well. For depicting emotion, Alberti insists on the use of seven positional body movements that would apply to both living and inanimate objects, these include up/down, right/left, away/towards and in rotation. The Possible Causes of Cleft Lip and Palate Cleft lip and/or palate is a condition where the tissue of the lip did not completely close during embryotic formation that affects 1 in 700 people born. Though not immediately fatal, the disorder can cause complications with consuming and speech that could lead to more serious problems. The only way to fix the gap is to surgically go in and sew the two sides of the lip /palate together; this is a comparable easier and faster solution than other solutions out there for different disorders. Many people who get the surgery recover fine, have slight physical differences, and are able to succeed in society like anyone else (condition does not hinder mental state or ability drastically). This condition has many different phenotypes that fall in two categories, unilateral cleft and bilateral cleft (Dixon et al., 2011). In a unilateral cleft, only one side of the palate or lip is affected (asymmetrical) while in a bilateral cleft, both sides are affected usually in a symmetric pattern. Because of the large range of phenotypes, it is very difficult to trace back to certain genes and factors and figure out how these factors together influence the expression of the trait. Cleft lip and/or palate can be expressed by itself, called non syndromic, or with other conditions including Kabuki syndrome, called syndromic (Dixon et al., 2011). Depending on the type of disorder, this condition is caused by different chromosomes and mutations on these chromosomes. For example, if it is indeed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The girl was always being called names and was made fun of and if it happens once you brush it off but once it is repeated over and over again it starts to really affect you but she had a good natured personality so she could live with the bullying, her good nature kept her alive this is similar to a fan belt in a car because the rubber is constantly under a little bit of friction not enough to affect it one time but over the course of years it slowly wears out but until it actually breaks the car could still run normally. The use of this simile is extremely important because rubber wears out if it is constantly being used to move the vehicle which causes friction. Likewise, the girl s good nature was in constant employment because of people constantly bullying her about her appearance, that it wore out and finally snapped. She stops wanting to live because her good nature was keeping her life going so once it was gone so was her life. The system of direct democracyin Athens maximized the freedom for its citizens to establish their ideals and work toward them in times peace. Nicias also argues the practical issue of fighting a war and then controlling a region that is so far away. From the beginning of colonization, in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, to the establishment of the first American colony, Jamestown in 1607, and to the creation of the thirteen colonies, there have been countless examples of exploration, encounter and exchange. The exploration of vast waters and unchartered territory led to new and undiscovered land and America being colonized. During this time of exploration, explorers encountered many new faces (including Native Americans), crops, animals and even new lifestyles. In addition, with the increased encounters with the explorers and Natives, there was a massive growth in exchange of goods between the Europeans and the Natives in the Americas. Throughout the course of history there have been many advances in the world of infrastructure, mostly occurring in the 1800 s and the 1900 s. Infrastructure is defined as the basic physical and organizational structure needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the services and facilities necessary for an economy to function. This definition shows how important infrastructure is to people s lives today. It affects how people live, travel, and communicate with one another. Three men who made huge contributions in the world of infrastructure were Robert Moses, Richard Ravitch and Othmar Hermann Ammann. All three of these men were involved in designing numerous landmarks, highways, bridges, tunnels, and other forms of infrastructure that today we take for granted. This is due to the fact that a war that consists entirely of machines would be impossible to fund, humans will always have the instinct to fight, and today we do not have the technology enabling machines to be able to make ethical decisions that humans can. The ability to fund a war consisting entirely of machines would be an impossible feat for the wealthiest nations, let alone one severely in debt like our own. The United States is currently experiencing a national debt of over $18.4 trillion which is continuing to rise at an unprecedented rate(usdebtclock.org). At a cost of approximately $40 million dollars the U.S. has developed the RQ 1 Predator drone (militaryfactory.com). Although it does play an important role in today s warfare, with the national debt continuing to rise there is no way the United States [could continue being] the world s dominant military power by producing an army of machines as Kurzweil foresees. Some might say that spending in the military has never stopped us before why should it now? If we increase our spending in the military by such a degree we will reach our debt ceiling just as we did in October of 2013 essentially causing a government shutdown. This is why we continue to see the use of humans in war simply because humans are the most economical way to fight a war and to remain the world s dominant military power. We are all taught that fighting is bad and to stay away from any form of physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Analysis Of The Wicked And The Just The book written by J. Anderson Coats called The Wicked and the Just, is about a girl named Cecily who moves to Caernarvon with her father, leaving her relatives and friends. They moved to a manor there and her father received a job to prevent any conflict that the Welshmen causes. On the other hand, another girl named Gwenhwfar is a Welsh who becomes Cecily s maid instead of the mistress of the manor that Cecily moved into. There are many ways to share the point of view of characters like in first person and third person. In this case, the story was written by the author in a dual narrativeof both girls, but mainly narrative from Cecily. Since she wrote it in dual narrative, there must be a purpose to it. J. From Cecily s aspect, Nessy hadn t been hurt but beside that she had no other evidence to prove their innocence. Compared to Gwenhwfar s angle, she has reasons to prove their innocence like them giving some oatbread and the last of milk, tending to her, and returning her with no harm done. The last purpose of the dual narrative was the style can be very effective for the readers. The technique helps reader get a more understanding of what s going on and reveals thoughts about the characters to help show what mood, character traits, and more elements. On page 44 on the top, it says, I grin outright. I can do better work with my feet in the dark. I spent all winter on it, Emmaline says proudly. By this textual evidence, Cecily is unappreciative because spending all winter on it is pretty impressive to do and Emmaline did do her best. Another example is on page 176, it states, Gruffydd brings some bread. Gnarly. Half moldy. He won t say where it came from. Have learned not to ask. The mood set here is gloomy and depressing because they are so poor that they had to eat anything they could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Characters In Roald Dahl s The Black Cat And The Landlady Christopher Lee once said, There is a dark side in all of us. And for us bad people, the bad side dominates. I think there is a great sadness in villains, and I have tried to put that across. We cannot stop ourselves doing what we are doing. All humans, have a dark side to them, people know they are doing something wrong, however, they cannot stop themselves from doing the action. There is a sadness behind the actions someone takes and maybe even a tiny ounce of guilt however, it doesn t stop them from having the flaws. In strange and mysterious stories, it is easy to see the flaws and faults of a character. In Roald Dahl s The Landlady, Edgar Allan Poes The Black Cat, and John Collier s The Chaser , the character flaws are revealed throughout the story. In The Landlady, Billy s flaw is in his absent minded behavior. Billy is not aware of the people around him and his surroundings. He comes to Bath, England to look for a job. He comes across this house that is compelling him, even though he originally wanted to stay at the Bell and Dragon, a hotel. However, he is drawn to the house, which he doesn t find weird and he isn t confused why all of a sudden his mind changes. He finds out that there is a room in the house that he can rent. The landlady looks at him all over his body as if analyzing him, but he pays no attention to the fact the landlady is really interested in his physique or even to the fact, that the room is prepped for a person. • 50. The Pros And Cons Of The IMF In Pakistan The IMF has a history with the country of Pakistan which may be viewed as very problematic for the people of the country depending on who you ask. In my research for one specific problem to write about pertaining this issue, I decided to encompass the entire project of Pakistan, which to many would be considered a massive failure on the part of the IMF and the ruling elite class of Pakistan. Pakistan gained its independence in 1947, and was mostly under martial law until 1984, four years before the IMF started granting loans to Pakistan that would never be repaid. Despite having a historic culture and ample natural resources, Pakistan as a country cannot seem to keep it s head above water financially. Shortly after the loans were given conditions would stabilize, but then according to Dr. Ehtisham Ahmad, when these inflows declined, the economy quickly headed towards fiscal and balance of payments crises. (Ahmad, E., Mohammed, A., 2012). It is hard for industry to ever stabilize when you are constantly battling credit crises. Since the country can t always meet the conditions of the loans from the IMF, the US has gleefully stepped up to lend the country money, but at what cost? According to Dr. Ehtisham Ahmad, The foundation of the relationship with the US is based on Pakistan s strategic location at the mouth of the Persian Gulf . (Ahmad, E., Mohammed, A., 2012). So the IMF is setting Pakistan up for failure with it s stop and go lending, allowing the US to enter the picture as a lender in return for certain political favors involving the land. So in it s series of loans to Pakistan, it has stripped the independence from the country and helped other nations come in to make decisions involving it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Preconceived Observation My observation was performed in a thrift store local to my community; one in which I regularly frequent in order to purchase inexpensive clothing. This fact alone left me in a tight position as I was able to view the community through an emic perspective. Prior to arriving at the establishment, I already had a mental picture of the store s layout. Due to my previous knowledge that the seating areas of the store blocked off all lines of sight for anything other than the back wall and dressing stalls, when conducting my observationI had chosen to roam freely around the store; residing mainly at the back clothing racks and homeware department located in the front left corner. I did not inform anyone that my purpose for being within the store... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my observation, I had stated details such as, parents would offer their children the possibility of buying a toy in exchange for their good behavior . However, as I was unable to come in verbal contact with the shoppers and take on the role of a participant observer, the true intentions of the parent for purchasing the toys alongside whether or not the relationship between a certain adult and child were that of a parent and child were left unknown to me. I was lead to make inferences based upon their behavioral patterns that the relationship between certain individuals were that of parent and child due to my ideological bias concerning what a paternal/maternal relationship looks like. I had assumed due to my personal bias towards parents, that the parent in the situation was bargaining with their child , as throughout my adolescent years while babysitting my younger cousins, I had used a method similar to the one that I had observed from the parents in order to keep my cousins in check. This particular example shows my attempt at making a sound analysis of the situations that I had observed, however, leaned further on the side of a descriptive inference due to the conclusions that I had formed surrounding the relationship between individuals and the reasoning behind their ...
