A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment. There
is a very big difference that helps prepare for a volcanic hazard and that is whether you are in a
MEDC or a LEDC. In a MEDC monitoring volcanic zones and potential hazards is an option many
LEDC s don t have. In Italy at Mt Etna they have Geochemical monitoring programs currently run
by INGV which focus on the analysis of temporal changes, chemical changes and seismic activity.
This option open to the Italians is not an option for LEDC who don t have the wealth or public
education to set up these stations. In Montserrat their where no levels of monitoring at all due to

There are other factors predicting and preparing wont help for. One is the type of volcanic hazard
such as a sudden pyroclastic flow is much more violent then a slow lava flow. With pyroclastics
you can only reduce the hazard by vacation but lava flows can be diverted and slowed down with
dam wall trenches and spraying water As they did in ice land on the 1973 Heimaey eruption which
started on 23 January.
Some times warning isn t enough because of peoples different circumstances and beliefs they
might not leave. One example is in Columbia in 1985 where they where warned but didn t listen
as they didn t think they would be affected and didn t trust the people telling them. About 20,000
people are feared dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia. Four towns in the Andes
region are reported to have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz,
causing a mudslide. These people weren t told to evacuate until 2 hours before the major eruption
casing massive loss of life. The reason for this late call was because the country didn t trust the
people observing the volcano this meant the potential hazard was far greater then it should have
been ad the results where horrific. This is one example of how poor education and different
situation can greatly increase the hazard.
The Nevado del Ruiz Volcano eruption is also a great example of how the physical environment
affects the hazard. In Armero two

Essay about Euthanasia
Introduction Euthanasia continues to be a subject of ethical debate. It is defined as the
administration of lethal drugs by someone other than the person concerned with the explicit
intention of ending a patient s life, at the latter s explicit request (Quaghebeur, de Casterle,
Gastmans, 2009).
An unprecedented number of people in the United States today live well into their late adult years.
Improved medical and public health practices, increasing life expectancies, and the graying of the
baby boom generation have all contributed to this phenomenon (Moulton, Hill, Burdette, 2006).
Euthanasia has been and always will be a topic of debate in the United States because Americans are
living longer. Oregon, Washington, and Montana... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research Question and Thesis The purpose of this research is to examine euthanasia. The physician
behind such a controversial topic and the variety of religious beliefs compared. In my opinion I
believe someone s life is in God s hands. I m not so sure how I would feel if I was approached by a
loved one who was suffering with a terminal disease and I was asked to assist in ending their life.
Key Terms Euthanasia is the intentional administration of lethal drugs in order to terminate
painlessly the life of a patient suffering from an incurable condition deemed unbearable. Voluntary
euthanasia is the intentional administration of lethal drugs in order to terminate painlessly the life
of a patient suffering from an incurable condition deemed unbearable by the patient, at the patient s
request. Non voluntary euthanasia is the intentional administration of lethal drugs in order to
terminate painlessly the life of a patient suffering from an incurable condition deemed unbearable,
not at this patient s request. Physician assisted suicide is a physician intentionally assisting a
patient, at this patient s request, to terminate his or her life.

How Social Class Affected My Life
Social Class refers to a group of people with similar levels of wealth, influence, and status. As time
passes by many of us start to alienate from each other in terms of what classes we belong to and
what type of things we could afford and it also affects the social mobility people will experience,
because of that it affects a lot of us greatly and you start to realize how it affects you when it comes
to what type of neighborhood you live in or what type of work you do or where you go to school.
Social Classhas hugely affected me especially when it comes to where I live and where I grew up.
In Park slope in Brooklyn back then when I was a child our neighborhood consisted of the working
middle classwith people that actually made a wage that allowed them to live here and we had
many stores we could go to and relate and grow relationships with people there but as time went
on all that began to change. As I was getting older I didn t realize it but things were changing
slow like the stores we used to go to closed down and went for sale or they got bought out and
they were replaced with stores where many of the merchandise was expensive and hard to get,
also they were being torn down and replaced with beautiful apartments which I thought at the
time was cool because I was thinking it was getting a makeover. As time went on many of the
buildings I grew up seeing started getting turned into condominiums where the prices were
getting ridiculous and the rent started going up and I started seeing Caucasian people and I
realized these condos were being built with people who were part of the new middle class or had
money where they could afford to live in condos. When I got a job at a store called Earth s Basket
it was difficult to even get the job but as I started to work there I realized many of the things we
were selling were grossly overpriced when I could just go across the street and get the same thing
for a lower price and I got frustrated because the reason why those things were so overpriced were
because of the people that were moving into Park Slope and because of white people everything
was going up in price and when I see them paying for items that were like $10 where you could get
it somewhere else

The Black Cat Research Paper
The Black cat is one of the most famous short story of Edgar Allan Poe. In this work he s
explaining the change of the human during the life, determined by living in this world and the bait
there. In my opinion the themes, he devotes this story are familiar and close to him, so he can
greatly express them. In the beginning of the story the man and his wife love animals and have the
favourite black catPluto. In the meantime, the man becomes to be addicted on alcohol. Once,
after he came back home, he is really mad, and poke one cat s eye. The man also treats his wife
badly and starts hate his cat. One time when he comes drunk again he gets mad and hang his cat.

BMIS Positive Ratings
Out of our tests, the only aspect that was statistically significant was the BMIS positive ratings. For
this, the research highlighted that the participants in the teeth condition had higher positive
emotion ratings than the lips condition. The r2 on this was 0.13 demonstrating that this had a
medium effect. In contrast the other aspects were not statistically significant. Out of these, they all
had r2 values that indicated small effects. Important to note, however, is the fact that the cartoon
funniness rating and the overall mood ratings were rounded to two decimal places. This brought
both of these to 0.01, thus causing their classification as a small effect. In contrast, even though the
r2 value for the BMIS negative was low (0.03) it was still enough to constitute the classification as
a small effect. For this specific aspect, the results were in the right direction, but as mentioned were
not statistically significant. The fact that only one of these was... Show more content on

For instance, the results from the cartoon amusement ratings for their second study found that the
ratings for their participants differed based on when it was evaluated. When their subjects were
evaluated at the time of the presentation of the cartoon, the participants in the teeth condition had
higher amusement ratings. In contrast, after the presentation of the cartoons, the teeth condition
rated the cartoons as less amusing than the lips condition. These results highlight that the conditions
changed the participants affective states, but did not change their humor. Since the facial feedback
hypothesis as described by Buck (1980), described an impact on a subjects emotional state this
would provide a potential reason for the lack of statistically significant results for our subjects
ratings of the funniness of the cartoons. Furthermore, this would also provide a potential reason that
our BMISpositive ratings were statistically

American Rockwell Controversy
In this research paper, I will be discussing the American illustrator Norman Rockwell, comparing
his work the Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art. I will discuss his technical mastery in the
academic principles and the message of his work as it relates to the major and minor themes.
Norman Rockwell was a well known American illustrator during the 1900s. His work was greatly
admired because he idealized the American life around him. While Rockwell himself was not
religious, his work, using great technical skill, communicated a positive message of morality found
in America past.
Norman Rockwell was born in the late 1800s to a middle class family in New York. Rockwell s
interest in art began when his father would read novels by Charles ... Show more content on

From a young age, he chose to study under George Bridgeman and Thomas Fogarty who were
considered to be more traditional, and looked up to artists such as Rembrandt and Brughel. He
did intense research for his paintings, and created backgrounds for his characters and props for
his settings. Norman Rockwell had an extensive process to his work, and created detailed
sketches from live models or photographs before he would begin to paint. In the early thirties, he
did go to Paris and attempt dynamic symmetry, but quickly went back to his traditional way of
painting. Alden Hatch states that Rockwell brings to his painting not only great talent, but superb
technique and artistic knowledge, bought by years of training and unceasing study. (Hatch
/Rockwell, 9) Ben Sonder states in The Legacy of Norman Rockwell that Rockwell had
remarkable eye for detail, was rigorous in his authenticity in rendering people and things, and
possessed the academic trying and technical skills of a fine artist. (Sonder, 7) Norman Rockwell s
work, created with such idealized naturalism, captured the lives and stories of the American people

Larceny
Larceny
November 27, 2013
Larceny is defined as the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another
from his or her possession with intent to convert them to the takers own use. To say it plainly,
larceny is stealing someone else s property. No matter what reasons there are behind stealing, it
is still wrong. I imagine there are many reasons for a person to decide that it is worth the risk to
steal something. There are certain people who do not think this is wrong to steal someone else s
property. A large part of this is because people do not understand who or what they are harming
when they steal. Most people who commit larceny do not look at the big picture and realize what
they are doing and how it affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An employer can prevent fraud in this situation by informing the employees that they do audit the
till at the end of the shift and will find out if there is something wrong going on.
This method of cash larceny is more dangerous because an employee would have to put in a
personal check to cover the balance so the till would balance .
The employee would be no better off than before they stole the cash because their check will
eventually be cashed and that makes no sense to do something like that.
The company could spot the employees check during reconciliation and catch on to what they are
doing even though they are replacing the money it is steal larceny at the time they take the money.
A company can avoid this situation by making it company policy that an employee cannot cash a
check or pay for goods while they are on the clock working.
This policy would make it easier to detect when fraud is actually happening this way.
When people commit larceny there are always lasting effects. One of the major effects of people
committing larceny by shoplifting or embezzling is on the economy. Stores have to make up for
the things that people shoplift so they raise their prices for on the items being stolen therefore
causing higher prices for honest paying people. If shoplifting was to stop all together, then
shoplifters would not have the motive of higher prices as their excuse for

Julius Caesar Quote Analysis
Sanders Brutus s Thoughts
The play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is about Brutus who is convinced by Cassius that
the ruler Julius Caesar is becoming too powerful for Rome s own good. Brutus and other
conspirators take this potential dictator down by killing him. Rome breaks into chaos but all in all
the chaos was better than having Julius Caesar as a dictator. Brutus and Bernie Sanders think alike
in the way they want a fair and equal society. They both strongly want to take down the higher
people in the world. While Bernie Sanders is looking to take down the 1% and Wall St Brutus is
looking to take down Caeser. Both of them in all want to help the common folk and plebeians of
their country.

he isn t against Anthony but he is against Hillary Clinton. we should level with the American
people, said Hillary Clinton in a 2016 Democratic debate. Hillary is acting as if Bernie Sanders
is not telling the truth and is trying to lie to the citizens of The United States of America.
Anthony also does the same tactic of making the crowd doubt Brutus s words. Voters are most
likely to trust Clinton states a poll by a magazine called The Week. This shows how the wicked
ways of Hillary are working just as how they worked against Bernie Sanders. Trust is what
everyone wants from a candidate and Hillary is getting just that.

Television And Its Impact On Society
The early nineties thus emerged as a liminal period in the trajectory of media practices. Television
shows during this period were forced to navigate the methodological shift from maintaining the
myth of television as a living reflection of the movement of time to the imminent advancement of
the spectacle. This intermediary condition of the period gave rise to shows with equally confused
psychic realities, often appearing to straddle the thin line between real and fake, and highbrow and
lowbrow.
However, deconstruction of the terms real , fake , highbrow and lowbrow with regard to television
reveals that these categorizations are inseparably fastened to its normalized methodological
conventions. Perceptions of the realness of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To this effect, highbrow refers to the intellectual content of programming and historically disregards
the inherent semiotic power of the visual channel. Something attains the categorization of lowbrow
if it is devoid of thoughtful transmissions of language, the deeply historicized notion of television s
essential content. Thus there is an inherent and widespread critical bias against the rising practice
of television s communicative power through imagery. W.J.T. Mitchell prophetically identified this
phenomenon when he posited an inherent shock of new media (11). Lowbrow television
henceforth chiefly represents an abandonment of the conventionally sanctioned form of
transmission and is a potentially fertile site for the avant garde.
Television that rose to prominence out of these conditions melded both sides of the shifting
paradigm and effectively mirrored modern circumstances. The WWF (now the WWE) entered its
Golden Age when new CEO Vince McMahonintroduced its televised content on syndicated
national television in the eighties, and continued to rapidly grow in popularity through television s
shifting methodology in the nineties. The Simpsons was launched in 1989 to immediate
mainstream success. Despite these two programs immense differences in reputation and acclaim,
each achieved increasing success through the early nineties

Effects of Columbian Exchange Essay
The Effects of the Columbian Exchange It was the year 1492, and a man by the name of
Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain where he then landed in the present day Americas,
sparking one of the most important events in the world, the Columbian exchange. The Columbian
exchange has shaped the world to what it is today with the exchange of goods from the Old World
to the New World, and vice versa. The Columbian exchange caused numerous short and long term
effects in the Americas and many other parts of the world. The short term effects of the Columbian
exchange included the outbreak of disease, which led to a sudden drop in the population of the
indigenous peoples. In the beginning of the sixteenth century Spanish and Portuguese... Show more

The foods that were brought back to the Old World such as, potatoes and corn proved a vital and
necessary resource to the Europeans. Another short term effect of the Columbian exchange was
the migration of African slaves to the Americas. The majority of the Africans that were enslaved
were caught in village raids or were war captives. They were caught by other Africans and sold
to the European slave traders for money and other prized possessions. For slaves, the voyage
known as the Middle Passage was a terrifying and perilous journey, with a death rate potentially
as high as 50%. The long term effects of the Columbian exchange included the swap of food,
crops, and animals between the New World and Old World, and the start of the transoceanic
trade. In order to produce a profit, Portuguese explorers were the first to established sugar cane
plantations in Brazil. They then sold this crop to the Old World where it was a popular commodity
because it provided Europeans with a sweetener for foods. In addition, European produce was
brought to the New World, including ...wheat, vines, horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and
chickens... Where they sharply increased supplies of food and animal energy. This fusion of crops
between the Old and New World became fundamental in enhancing the diets and food of both
populations.

animals,

Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson
From the violent and brutal clash between Indians [1], and British colonists in Massachusetts during
King Philip s War (1675 6) grew a new literary genre. After their redemption, some colonists who
had been prisoners of the Indians wrote autobiographical accounts of their experiences. These
captivity narratives developed a large audience, and interest in the narratives continued into the
nineteenth century.[2] After her capture and redemption, Mary Rowlandsonpublished what some

Notes On Self Assessment Tools
1.Self assessment tools can be found in several places from self help books to magazine articles,
and sometimes make grand and exaggerated claims. What are the advantages and disadvantages of
these self help tools?
Okay to start off, I decided to do a self assessment based on depression. It s only nine questions and
it was closed end; so the answers ranged from, no, not at all , on some days , on more than half the
days , nearly every day .
Here are the nine questions:
1)Have you found little pleasure or interest in doing things?
2)Have you found yourself feeling down, depressed or hopeless?
3)Have you had trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much?
4)Have you been feeling tired or had little energy?
5)Have you had a poor appetite or been overeating?
6)Have you felt that you re a failure or let yourself or your family down?
7)Have you had some trouble concentrating on things like reading the paper or watching TV?
8)Have you been moving or speaking slowly, or been very fidgety, so that other people could notice?
9)Have you thought that you d be better off dead or hurting yourself in some way? Based on
your responses today it s very likely that you could be suffering from some form of depression but
only an experienced health professional can tell for sure. You should make an appointment to see
your GP as soon as possible or call NHS 111. They will be able to help you and offer some form of

The Four Noble Truths Of The Dukkha
Growing up in what some may consider the good life , the Gotama (Buddha) was raised in a
kingdom with every luxury available to him. His life was well set considering he was a prince
and heir to the kingdom. When suddenly one day he was struck with the harsh realities of life,
interpreting them as sufferings. As a result of these sufferings being brought to his attention, he left
his kingdom in order to find a way to end he suffering. Gotama traveled searching for many years
exploring religions and possible solutions to end universal suffering. Finally he developed his own
practice and way of life that he felt was the solution. Gotama was now considered enlightened
therefor becoming the Buddha. The foundations of Buddhismwhere created to be simple and is how
the Buddha explains the process in which one must understand in order to understand suffering
itself. These sermons are known as the four noble truths. The Dukkhais the first sermon also known
as suffering. In order to understand the meaning of the first Dukkha and how it arises, one must
also understand and follow the second, third, and forth, noble truths which contribute to the solution
of the Dukkha. Most importantly, one must understand the Five Aggregates that make up the
Dukkha, which according to Buddha also represent the being . Once one can understand this multi
level system they can start to apply the Buddhist solution.

Western Intelligence Significance
The Western intelligence agencies worked hard to prevent the Soviet s expansion. Few factors
highlighted the likelihood of destroying Russia. These factors included failed economy and
weak Red Army. But the absence of the normal relationship between Soviet Russia and the West,
forced Allies to be very careful in their intelligence activities (219). After Cheka s raids in 1918,
the British decided to restore their operation but relocated their bases from Moscow and Petrograd
(220). This relocation did not prevent British from picking up the Soviet cable traffic to Europe by
the end of 1918. In June of 1918, the intelligence agency came across an important message from
Trotsky to Litvinov and they prevented it from reaching Litvinov (226).... Show more content on

This transformation worried the West and they had to make the best out of the bad situation. The
Allied intelligence agents worked hard to prevent the Red victory. The Britain employed
Lockhart under a cover of diplomat, while Reilly worked on his own with the advantage of
knowing the Russian language. Two agents used different paths to follow the same goal: the
destruction of the communist rule. Of course, the West sent military missions to secretly pay
Russian to gather information, but they were too small to have an impact. These kinds of
missions were suspicious for communist, so the West turned to the recruitment of agents. As
soon as they were sent to Moscow both agents worked closely together and realized that they
could find new friends among those, who did not welcome Bolsheviks. The British reporter
Arthur Ransome, a Secret Intelligence Informant, grew sympathetic towards Bolsheviks and
eventually fell in love with one. His contribution to the collection of actionable intelligence did
not have any influence on the British analysis of soviets. Lockhart is known today as an
architect of the entire British conspiracy. He also became the model of the hero of a Hollywood
movie called British Agent. He continued his political career and worked in the Prague embassy
in 1920 (345). The Missions during the early years of the Russian Revolution inspired him to write

UbiFit Garden
In order to encourage physical exercise in the generally increasing sedentary lifestyle of many
people, researchers from Intel and University of Washington [6] developed an on body sensing, real
time statistical modeling, and a personal, mobile display in the environment entitled, UbiFit
Garden. The need arose out of users who are planning to incorporate a healthy lifestyle but have not
been able to. This system composes three elements, a fitness device, an interactive application and a
glanceable display. The fitness device through multiple types of sensors and inputs such as a 3 d
accelerometer, barometer, humidity, visible and infrared light, temperature, microphone and
compass is able to automatically conclude the context of the environment and sense the physical
activity the user performed. This information is then transferred to the glanceable display and
interactive application. The success of the application is bound to the Mobile Sensing Platform

A Separate Peace Gene And Finny s Relationship
The Alternate Reality of Phineas and his Friendship with Gene
The coming of age novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, is based on the author s high
school years at his prestigious school, the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. The
novel is set in the fictional Devon School during World War II. It explores the prep school idyll
of two adolescent boys, Gene and Phineas. The novel s main character, Gene Forrester, who is
also the narrator of the story, was based on the young Knowles himself, while Finny s character
was modeled after another student from Exeter, David Hackett. In A Separate Peace, John Knowles,

How I Have A Good Life
Most days I spend happily completing my homework and hanging out with my new friends and
loving family. I have a good life. Yet... There are those staggering moments, when I find myself
alone, and the memories and feelings of the past come to me with a wave of quiet emotions. It
was only a few months ago that my very best friend became my ex bestfriend. His name was,
Seth Kauffman, a student at Clayton Valley. He was not perfect, but who is? A while back, I had
lost a good friend and instead of being there for me, he bullied me, and made my life miserable...
But all wounds heal, and I gave him a second chance. We had become very close again. We

I enjoy meeting new people, but who is this boy? I wondered to myself. The boy Branden

skipped off to go find food. Who was that? I inquired with a raised eyebrow. That was Branden

mind buzzed with curiosity. Yes, but I want you to stay away from him. He is creepy. I obeyed
with the nodd of my head, and we both walked off to class together. *** Later that night on my
bed, wrapped in a soft, warm blanket I sat, pondering How could a boy I had never seen or met

Theme Of In Our Time By Ernest Hemingway
In Our Time: When Playing the Macho Man Leads to Stage FrightErnest Hemingway s collection
of short stories, In Our Time, portrays multiple examples of men trying to prove their masculinity in
exorbitant manners, only to be met with disgrace. Thomas Strychacz points out in his essay,
Dramatizations of Manhood in Hemingway s In Our Time and The Sun Also Rises that
Hemingway s male characters ...sense of self rests precariously upon the audience s decision to
validate or reject ritual gestures toward manhood, (Strychacz 247). This concept reoccurs multiple
times throughout the book, particularly in Nick Adam s father and the former fighting champion
Ad Francis. In both cases, the men act in extravagant ways as a method to show their dominance,
yet when placed in front of a new audience, it leads to their defeat and humiliation.Nick Adams
father, a doctor, is one of the first characters Hemingway introduces who behaves in an
exaggerated way to assert his authority. In Indian Camp , we see Nick s father perform an
emergency caesarean section on an Indian woman who had been in labor for several days with a
breached baby. In this story, the Doctor is shown as the brave, masculine hero . The woman s
screams do not bother him, and he does not notice how gruesome and traumatizing this scene is to
his young son. In fact, he finds the experience rather thrilling. Post operating, it says the doctor

Wuthering Heights Summary
Set in the wild, rugged country of Yorkshire in northern England during the late eighteenth century,
Emily Bronte s masterpiece novel, Wuthering Heights, clearly illustrates the conflict between the
principles of storm and calm ;. The reoccurring theme of this story is captured by the intense, almost
inhuman love between Catherine and Heathcliff and the numerous barriers preventing their union.
The fascinating tale of Wuthering Heights is told mainly through the eyes of Nelly Dean, the former
servant to the two great estates, to Mr. Lockwood, the current tenant of the Grange.

Comparison of symbolism of kites in the Kite Runner and Master Harold and the boys
I am going to compare the symbolism of the kite in the play Master Harold and the boys by Athol
Fugard and in the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hossseini. Firstly I will talk about the
symbolism in both of the books separately. And then I will compare them to see the similarities and
the differences. The kite symbol has two different meanings. In the Kite Runner the kite
represents kite fighting and the blue kite that was the last opponent was the key to Baba s heart.
In Master Harold and the boys the kite is used to cheer up Hally when he was embarrassed by his

When Hally got to the top of the hill Sam moved down the hill a bit and held the kite up. The
reason of that was because a black man was not allowed to be in the same park as a white person.
Sam shouted Hally to go. This was the signal for Hally to run. Hally was impressed the kite was
flying and looping in the air. Hally couldn t believe it. At last he felt happy again and was proud to
have Sam as a friend. It works, Sam! We ve done it! This quote shows how Hally is now happy
again and Sam had succeeded in his job of making Hally feel better.
The kite represents sad moments in the play. When Sam and Hally were flying the kite they tied it
to a bench where they could sit and watch it fly. Sam had to leave but I wanted him to stay . This
shows that Hally wants to share his happy moments with Sam. The problem is that in 1950 in South
Africa rules were different and a black man was not allowed to sit on the same bench as a white
man. It was sort of sad to bring it down . This explains that the idea of the kite flying in the air got
him into a fantasy world and now that the kite is on the ground he is back in the reality.
Hally asks Sam if they should do it again, make another kite and enjoy the moments as they shared
last time. But Sam said No. You can t fly kiteson rainy days which mean you can t be happy when
you re sad.
In The Kite Runner the kite does not always symbolize happiness also it shows cowardice and
betrayal. It shows that

First Sight Is Real
In my own opinion I will explain to you if I think love at first sight is real. I believe that love at
first glance isn t real because you truly have no idea who that person is. If you like somebody
because of their looks, it s from lust or desire, not love. You have to know the person, not just go
out and propose to every single, pretty person out there, otherwise it could actually lead to bad
decisions and later can harm you.
When we were all little we got told to stay away from strangers because they will kidnap us, well
now that we are older we just assume we are okay, and safe..but we actually aren t. Ted bundy is
a good example of this, Bundy was regarded as handsome and charismatic by many of his young
female victims, traits he exploited to win their trust. He typically approached them in public
places, feigning injury or disability, or impersonating an authority figure, before overpowering
and assaulting them at more secluded locations.. The victims trusted him, because he was
handsome, and well spoken, so they wouldn t of ever thought he was a bad person. Real courage

To determine the effects of gamma radiation in inducing mutation on the growth of corn (Zea
mays), an experiment using corn seeds exposed in to different rate of radiation (0kr, 10 kr, 30 kr,
and 50 kr) was done. Four treatments were prepared using 10 seeds from each of the following
different radiation rates. The seeds were planted and were observed for seven weeks. The percent
germination and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theoretically, the control should have the highest percent germination rate, but since errors which
can be attributed from the environment as well as from other physical factors are present, results
obtained cannot be avoided. The treatment with the highest irradiation rate (50 kr) has the lowest
rate of seed germination. However, in Table 2, results indicated that treatment under the former has
the highest percent mortality rate (100 %) while the lowest obtained by the control treatment (40%).
In Figure 1, results obtained showed that the treatment with highest average plant height was under
Treatment 10 kr. The final average plant height under this treatment was 28.58 cm compared to the
25.98 cm of control, 20.87 of 30 kr and 6.04 of 50 kr. Again, theoretically, the control should have
the highest average plant height but results showed otherwise.
Through the obtained data, it can be concluded that exposing seeds to radiation can induce mutation
which in the end could affect the growth rate, germination rate as well as the mortality rate of the
plant. Observations and data obtained showed that the rate of radiation is inversely proportional to
the percent germination and height of corn plants thus proving that percent germination and height
decreases as amount or

Charles Bukowski Satire
The word pleasant has never been used to describe Charles Bukowski, with his traumatic
upbringing being the primary cause. His father was a tyrant, physically beating him for even the
smallest offenses, and he was the victim of constant bullying throughout his school years. These
events shaped Bukowski into the cold and desensitized writer the public has come to know and
appreciate for his blatant honesty. Though violent imagery and vulgar diction are typically what
characterize Bukowski, his work, specifically in poems like The Crunch, reveal a deeper portrait
of the author, one that depicts the truths of urban life and the American Dream, as well as the
shift that occurred in his works in relation to his impending death. Bukowski has been described
to use his work to portray the deprav[ed] and downtrodden aspects of bohemian living. The
manner of which he does so is characteristically offensive, with references to sex, alcoholism, and
violence (Poetry Foundation). It is on these grounds that many critics dismissed his work, similar
to how one may dismiss The Crunch at the line armies running through streets of blood waving
wine bottles bayoneting and fucking virgins (Bukowski). However it is important to note that
Bukowski relied largely on personal experience and satire to provoke... Show more content on

The Great Conroversy of the Nazca Lines
Without a doubt the architecture and the grandeur of Pumapunku is awe inspiring, but just because
something might not be easily explained at first glance does not mean that an explanation does not
exist, buried in the history. Meanwhile nearly 500 miles to the Northeast of Tiwanaku lays another
site of great controversy and is what many ancient alien theorists call the extraterrestrial airport.
Located deep in the NazcaDessert in southern Peru lies one of the most identifiable archeological
sites when it comes to evidence for aliens being among in the past; the Nazca Lines. Ever since they
became known in the 1920s, when a commercial airplane flew over the dessert, these mysterious
encryptions have puzzled scientists from anthropology to archeology, and just about anyone else
fascinated by the lines and just what they mean or how they got there. Since they were discovered
scientists have tried to explain them as roads, an ancient calendar system, and landing places for
alien space ships. Leading alien theorist Erich Von Daniken theorizes in his book Chariots of the
Gods? that the complexity and interworking s of the glyphs were beyond the capability of the
Nazca cultureand that their sole purpose was to act as landing strips and that the shapes of animals
were used as reference points. Although it might be easy for some people to accept these theories
as the only plausible explanation, because what else could the Nazca Lines be. However, just

Health Insurance is a necessity for anyone living in America. It protects you from paying the

The Success Of FC Barcelona
Even before they changed the football landscape by inventing the tiki taka style of play, FC
Barcelona have been known for their likable brand of football that always seemed to produce
results. During their long and immensely successful history, they have won 23 La Liga titles, 27
Copa del Rey trophies, five Champions Leagues and four Cup Winners Cups. As one of the
richest and most popular clubs in the world, they can afford to be owned and financed exclusively
by their own supporters. Since its inception, Barcelona has been a major symbol of Catalonia and
its culture, as evidenced by their motto, which says More than a club.
In 1899, football pioneer Joan Gamper decided he wanted to form a football club. After eleven
other enthusiasts responded to his newspaper advert, the dream became a reality and Barcelona
was born. The new club started off well enough; after losing to Bizkaya in the final of the
inaugural Copa del Rey in 1902, Barcelona went on to win the competition eight times between
then and 1928. The following year, they won the inaugural La Liga before entering a period of

The Physiology of Laughter Essay
Laughter is part of everyday life for every human. Although we do it daily, most people do not
know how it works, nor how it helps us with our health. Something that we do all the time is
something that we do not even think about. We, as humans, take laughter for granted. It might

socially. Although, many people do not agree on humor, we can all agree on one thing: laughter is

Whenever the voice box is closed, air cannot travel. However, when the larynx is just barely open,
it produces sound. When we hear the sweet music of laughter, is it because we breathed out while
our vocal cords were not open and with the help of our respiratory muscles, we produce the steady
sound of laughter. But, what goes on in the brain whenever we laugh?
Of course, we all know that the brain is one of our major organs and our brains are always in use,
but what goes on in the brain when we laugh? The study of laughter and the affects it has on the
body is called gelotology. Although laughter may come easy and natural to us, our body has to go

have shown that laughter is caused by many parts of the brain. These researchers have done many

Heritable Race Based Slavery was essentially similar to indentured servitude because indentured
servitude led to heritable race based slavery in certain ways. Without indentured servitude, they
would have never gotten to the need to use heritable race based slavery. Which is following in the
condition of the mother. The children of a slave mother are born into slavery. They are born into
slavery and they are going to be a slave because their mother is. It used to be following in the
condition of the father, but what father is a slave? It was rare, especially if you have a mulatto
child. The father would be white. So, to avoid having all these free black children, who should be
slaves ( Follow The Money ) they used the condition of the mother. The mother is always a slave,
so therefore, they make money and get more slaves out of the deal. You have a generation to
generation guaranteed slave, what more could you want?
b.Indentured Slavery:
Indentured Servitude is where you can say it all started. Indentured Servitude was used for 4 7
years to pay off a debt. It could be extended, but there was always a promise that it would end
(you would gain freedom) and that you would get land when it was over and settled with.
Indentured Servitude also had blacks and whites together. They were not separated like they were
with slavery, which was strictly blacks. Indentured Servitude was not passed

  • 2. 1 9 †To what extent can preparedness and planning mitigate... A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment. There is a very big difference that helps prepare for a volcanic hazard and that is whether you are in a MEDC or a LEDC. In a MEDC monitoring volcanic zones and potential hazards is an option many LEDC s don t have. In Italy at Mt Etna they have Geochemical monitoring programs currently run by INGV which focus on the analysis of temporal changes, chemical changes and seismic activity. This option open to the Italians is not an option for LEDC who don t have the wealth or public education to set up these stations. In Montserrat their where no levels of monitoring at all due to Before 1995 there was no record of the volcano on Montserrat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are other factors predicting and preparing wont help for. One is the type of volcanic hazard such as a sudden pyroclastic flow is much more violent then a slow lava flow. With pyroclastics you can only reduce the hazard by vacation but lava flows can be diverted and slowed down with dam wall trenches and spraying water As they did in ice land on the 1973 Heimaey eruption which started on 23 January. Some times warning isn t enough because of peoples different circumstances and beliefs they might not leave. One example is in Columbia in 1985 where they where warned but didn t listen as they didn t think they would be affected and didn t trust the people telling them. About 20,000 people are feared dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia. Four towns in the Andes region are reported to have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz, causing a mudslide. These people weren t told to evacuate until 2 hours before the major eruption casing massive loss of life. The reason for this late call was because the country didn t trust the people observing the volcano this meant the potential hazard was far greater then it should have been ad the results where horrific. This is one example of how poor education and different situation can greatly increase the hazard. The Nevado del Ruiz Volcano eruption is also a great example of how the physical environment affects the hazard. In Armero two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Euthanasia Introduction Euthanasia continues to be a subject of ethical debate. It is defined as the administration of lethal drugs by someone other than the person concerned with the explicit intention of ending a patient s life, at the latter s explicit request (Quaghebeur, de Casterle, Gastmans, 2009). An unprecedented number of people in the United States today live well into their late adult years. Improved medical and public health practices, increasing life expectancies, and the graying of the baby boom generation have all contributed to this phenomenon (Moulton, Hill, Burdette, 2006). • 4. How Social Class Affected My Life Social Class refers to a group of people with similar levels of wealth, influence, and status. As time passes by many of us start to alienate from each other in terms of what classes we belong to and what type of things we could afford and it also affects the social mobility people will experience, because of that it affects a lot of us greatly and you start to realize how it affects you when it comes to what type of neighborhood you live in or what type of work you do or where you go to school. Social Classhas hugely affected me especially when it comes to where I live and where I grew up. In Park slope in Brooklyn back then when I was a child our neighborhood consisted of the working middle classwith people that actually made a wage that allowed them to live here and we had many stores we could go to and relate and grow relationships with people there but as time went on all that began to change. As I was getting older I didn t realize it but things were changing slow like the stores we used to go to closed down and went for sale or they got bought out and they were replaced with stores where many of the merchandise was expensive and hard to get, also they were being torn down and replaced with beautiful apartments which I thought at the time was cool because I was thinking it was getting a makeover. As time went on many of the buildings I grew up seeing started getting turned into condominiums where the prices were getting ridiculous and the rent started going up and I started seeing Caucasian people and I realized these condos were being built with people who were part of the new middle class or had money where they could afford to live in condos. When I got a job at a store called Earth s Basket it was difficult to even get the job but as I started to work there I realized many of the things we were selling were grossly overpriced when I could just go across the street and get the same thing for a lower price and I got frustrated because the reason why those things were so overpriced were because of the people that were moving into Park Slope and because of white people everything was going up in price and when I see them paying for items that were like $10 where you could get it somewhere else ... In this work he s explaining the change of the human during the life, determined by living in this world and the bait there. In the beginning of the story the man and his wife love animals and have the favourite black catPluto. In the meantime, the man becomes to be addicted on alcohol. Once, after he came back home, he is really mad, and poke one cat s eye. The man also treats his wife badly and starts hate his cat. One time when he comes drunk again he gets mad and hang his cat. • 6. BMIS Positive Ratings Out of our tests, the only aspect that was statistically significant was the BMIS positive ratings. For this, the research highlighted that the participants in the teeth condition had higher positive emotion ratings than the lips condition. The r2 on this was 0.13 demonstrating that this had a medium effect. In contrast the other aspects were not statistically significant. Out of these, they all had r2 values that indicated small effects. Important to note, however, is the fact that the cartoon funniness rating and the overall mood ratings were rounded to two decimal places. This brought both of these to 0.01, thus causing their classification as a small effect. In contrast, even though the r2 value for the BMIS negative was low (0.03) it was still enough to constitute the classification as a small effect. For this specific aspect, the results were in the right direction, but as mentioned were not statistically significant. The fact that only one of these was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the results from the cartoon amusement ratings for their second study found that the ratings for their participants differed based on when it was evaluated. When their subjects were evaluated at the time of the presentation of the cartoon, the participants in the teeth condition had higher amusement ratings. In contrast, after the presentation of the cartoons, the teeth condition rated the cartoons as less amusing than the lips condition. These results highlight that the conditions changed the participants affective states, but did not change their humor. Since the facial feedback hypothesis as described by Buck (1980), described an impact on a subjects emotional state this would provide a potential reason for the lack of statistically significant results for our subjects ratings of the funniness of the cartoons. • 7. American Rockwell Controversy In this research paper, I will be discussing the American illustrator Norman Rockwell, comparing his work the Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art. I will discuss his technical mastery in the academic principles and the message of his work as it relates to the major and minor themes. Norman Rockwell was a well known American illustrator during the 1900s. His work was greatly admired because he idealized the American life around him. While Rockwell himself was not religious, his work, using great technical skill, communicated a positive message of morality found in America past. Norman Rockwell was born in the late 1800s to a middle class family in New York. Rockwell s interest in art began when his father would read novels by Charles ... From a young age, he chose to study under George Bridgeman and Thomas Fogarty who were considered to be more traditional, and looked up to artists such as Rembrandt and Brughel. Norman Rockwell had an extensive process to his work, and created detailed sketches from live models or photographs before he would begin to paint. In the early thirties, he did go to Paris and attempt dynamic symmetry, but quickly went back to his traditional way of painting. Alden Hatch states that Rockwell brings to his painting not only great talent, but superb technique and artistic knowledge, bought by years of training and unceasing study. • 8. Larceny Larceny November 27, 2013 Larceny is defined as the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another from his or her possession with intent to convert them to the takers own use. To say it plainly, larceny is stealing someone else s property. No matter what reasons there are behind stealing, it is still wrong. I imagine there are many reasons for a person to decide that it is worth the risk to steal something. There are certain people who do not think this is wrong to steal someone else s property. A large part of this is because people do not understand who or what they are harming when they steal. Most people who commit larceny do not look at the big picture and realize what they are doing and how it affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An employer can prevent fraud in this situation by informing the employees that they do audit the till at the end of the shift and will find out if there is something wrong going on. This method of cash larceny is more dangerous because an employee would have to put in a personal check to cover the balance so the till would balance . The employee would be no better off than before they stole the cash because their check will eventually be cashed and that makes no sense to do something like that. The company could spot the employees check during reconciliation and catch on to what they are doing even though they are replacing the money it is steal larceny at the time they take the money. A company can avoid this situation by making it company policy that an employee cannot cash a check or pay for goods while they are on the clock working. This policy would make it easier to detect when fraud is actually happening this way. When people commit larceny there are always lasting effects. One of the major effects of people committing larceny by shoplifting or embezzling is on the economy. Stores have to make up for the things that people shoplift so they raise their prices for on the items being stolen therefore causing higher prices for honest paying people. Television shows during this period were forced to navigate the methodological shift from maintaining the myth of television as a living reflection of the movement of time to the imminent advancement of the spectacle. This intermediary condition of the period gave rise to shows with equally confused psychic realities, often appearing to straddle the thin line between real and fake, and highbrow and lowbrow. However, deconstruction of the terms real , fake , highbrow and lowbrow with regard to television reveals that these categorizations are inseparably fastened to its normalized methodological conventions. Perceptions of the realness of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To this effect, highbrow refers to the intellectual content of programming and historically disregards the inherent semiotic power of the visual channel. Something attains the categorization of lowbrow if it is devoid of thoughtful transmissions of language, the deeply historicized notion of television s essential content. Thus there is an inherent and widespread critical bias against the rising practice of television s communicative power through imagery. W.J.T. Mitchell prophetically identified this phenomenon when he posited an inherent shock of new media (11). Lowbrow television henceforth chiefly represents an abandonment of the conventionally sanctioned form of transmission and is a potentially fertile site for the avant garde. Television that rose to prominence out of these conditions melded both sides of the shifting paradigm and effectively mirrored modern circumstances. The WWF (now the WWE) entered its Golden Age when new CEO Vince McMahonintroduced its televised content on syndicated national television in the eighties, and continued to rapidly grow in popularity through television s shifting methodology in the nineties. The Simpsons was launched in 1989 to immediate mainstream success. After Cheka s raids in 1918, the British decided to restore their operation but relocated their bases from Moscow and Petrograd (220). Initially, after his accident, Finny s confidence stays strong for a while. He does not believe that his fractured leg would be a problem for him, so he doesn t take proper care of it. Finny simply refuses to be aware of the severity of his injury. By disregarding all implications of his condition he explains, Isn t the bone supposed to be stronger when it grows together over a place where it s been broken once? ... Yes, I think it is. ... I think so too. In fact I think I can feel it getting stronger (157). Finny s naivety echoes how desperately he is trying to regain his pride and masculinity after his tragedy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theoretically, the control should have the highest percent germination rate, but since errors which can be attributed from the environment as well as from other physical factors are present, results obtained cannot be avoided. The treatment with the highest irradiation rate (50 kr) has the lowest rate of seed germination. However, in Table 2, results indicated that treatment under the former has the highest percent mortality rate (100 %) while the lowest obtained by the control treatment (40%). In Figure 1, results obtained showed that the treatment with highest average plant height was under Treatment 10 kr. The final average plant height under this treatment was 28.58 cm compared to the 25.98 cm of control, 20.87 of 30 kr and 6.04 of 50 kr. Again, theoretically, the control should have the highest average plant height but results showed otherwise. Through the obtained data, it can be concluded that exposing seeds to radiation can induce mutation which in the end could affect the growth rate, germination rate as well as the mortality rate of the plant. Observations and data obtained showed that the rate of radiation is inversely proportional to the percent germination and height of corn plants thus proving that percent germination and height decreases as amount or ... His father was a tyrant, physically beating him for even the smallest offenses, and he was the victim of constant bullying throughout his school years. These events shaped Bukowski into the cold and desensitized writer the public has come to know and appreciate for his blatant honesty. Though violent imagery and vulgar diction are typically what characterize Bukowski, his work, specifically in poems like The Crunch, reveal a deeper portrait of the author, one that depicts the truths of urban life and the American Dream, as well as the shift that occurred in his works in relation to his impending death. Bukowski has been described to use his work to portray the deprav[ed] and downtrodden aspects of bohemian living. The manner of which he does so is characteristically offensive, with references to sex, alcoholism, and violence (Poetry Foundation). The Great Conroversy of the Nazca Lines Without a doubt the architecture and the grandeur of Pumapunku is awe inspiring, but just because something might not be easily explained at first glance does not mean that an explanation does not exist, buried in the history. Meanwhile nearly 500 miles to the Northeast of Tiwanaku lays another site of great controversy and is what many ancient alien theorists call the extraterrestrial airport. Located deep in the NazcaDessert in southern Peru lies one of the most identifiable archeological sites when it comes to evidence for aliens being among in the past; the Nazca Lines. Ever since they became known in the 1920s, when a commercial airplane flew over the dessert, these mysterious encryptions have puzzled scientists from anthropology to archeology, and just about anyone else fascinated by the lines and just what they mean or how they got there. Since they were discovered scientists have tried to explain them as roads, an ancient calendar system, and landing places for alien space ships. Leading alien theorist Erich Von Daniken theorizes in his book Chariots of the Gods? that the complexity and interworking s of the glyphs were beyond the capability of the Nazca cultureand that their sole purpose was to act as landing strips and that the shapes of animals were used as reference points. Although it might be easy for some people to accept these theories as the only plausible explanation, because what else could the Nazca Lines be. However, just because something is not ...
