Essay on Muddy Buddy Memories
Every Christmas Eve, my dad, brother and I make Muddy Buddies for the rest of our family, but the
Christmas Eve of 2006 stands out in particularly. My dad had just gotten back from an international
business trip so he was a little out of it to say the least. He came home that day and later that afternoon
went to the store to get all the ingredients we needed but unfortunately forgot how much of each
ingredient to buy. That night when we were making our Muddy Buddies, he ended up going back to
the store 3 times because we ran out of cereal, chocolate chips and powdered sugar. Making Muddy
Buddies is incredibly important for me to know how to make because it is an annual tradition in my
family that my dad, brother and I are known to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That bowl is then set aside. Next, we take the microwavable bowl and insert 1 cup of chocolate chips,
half a cup of peanut butter and a quarter cup of thawed out margarine. That bowl is then put in the
microwave for one minute, stirred, and then put in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds until
smooth. Once smooth, we stir in one teaspoon of vanilla. The mixture made is then poured on top of
the 9 cups of Chex cereal and stirred until evenly coated. My dad usually does the stirring or else my
brother or I would stir so hard that it would squish the cereal.
Once the cereal is evenly coated, it is then poured into a gallon sized re sealable bag. Then my dad
holds the bag open while my brother pours in the one and a half cups of powdered sugar. The bag is
then sealed and I get the fun job of shaking the bag until the powdered sugar coats all the cereal. Then
I pour out the cereal onto the dining room table which is covered with wax paper. Then, we repeat the
process until we run out of ingredients and have to run to the store to get more. As soon as we make
enough Muddy Buddies for the entire family, is when we sprinkle the remaining powdered sugar on
top of the cereal. Finally, we take smaller re sealable bags and fill over 20 bags with Muddy Buddies
for each family member to give to them on Christmas Day, while any leftovers are given to my
Grandma where she leaves them out throughout her house on Christmas for sharing.

How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote...
1.2.1 How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote Substantive Equality
This section provides a summary of the main findings of major reviews that have been conducted of
the effectiveness of the Human Rights Act by the government, the Joint Committee on Human Rights
and the Commission. The reviews indicated that the HRA had largely had a positive impact on public
service delivery and the enjoyment of human rights. However there are a number of barriers to the
HRA s effectiveness: significant misconceptions about the HRA are held by sections of the media,
general public and at times public authorities (including by frontline staff in public authorities on
when the HRA is not relevant), a need to improve understanding and application of the HRA by public
authorities, and a need for better leadership on human rights issues by the government and the
Commission.
These issues are also linked to the discussion of the process for developing any Bill of Rights in
Chapter 4.
Reviews by the government and the Joint Committee on Human Rights
There have been two reviews conducted by the government on the effectiveness of the HRA. In July
2006 the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) published a review in response to the Prime
Minister s request to the Lord Chancellor to consider any problems with the implementation of the
HRA. In addition, the Home Office conducted a review of the effect of the HRA in the context of a
wider review of the criminal justice system to

Redbox s Argumentative Essay
The ideal alternative we identified in the Cisco case was ensuring that the Business to business
integration included software that would not only serve a greater purpose for Cisco s internal
processes, but ensure that it is implemented from Cisco s customer perspectives, to help identify and
understand the consumer s needs. The ideal Alternatives identified for Redbox involves providing
costumers more convince options. This can be achieved through various avenues such as
implementing a Video On demand platform or extending the title licensing agreements. One of
Redbox s competitive advantages is that the company has direct output deals with distribution

Racial Diversity in Jury Selection
Racial Diversity in Jury Selection
Barbara Sigler
Unit 3
American Intercontinental University
Abstract
The selection process of juries was designed to select citizens that were equal peers of the person
involved in the trial. However, many disparities exist and the selection process at times seems to be
disproportionate relating to race or ethnicity. Reform of the legislature would benefit those that are not
being properly served.
It is the right of every citizen in this nation to have his or her case decided by a fair and impartial jury.
The selection of the jury panel is one of great importance and one that can have a great effect on the
outcome of the case. Therefore, it is obvious that the attorneys have a ... Show more content on

Discuss Some of the Arguments Made Against Globalization...
Globalization is the interaction of world economies to become one big economy, for the sole purpose
of enhancing free trade, growth and efficiency and employment. It emphasizes the neo liberal
economic policies commonly referred to as the Washington Consensus of free trade, financial and
capital market liberalization, deregulation and privatization (Juhasz, pg 408). The supporters of
globalization argue that it is essential to an individual s advancement and economic progress, and
constantly reiterate that an integrated market economy will bring prosperity worldwide. Whereas,
critics of globalization believe that without a proper framework and policies, the consequence of
globalization will have a great impact on world politics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These restrictions also show the double standards of globalization policies. If restrictive polices had
been fairly exercised, Japan and US would not have industrialized to such great extent by importing
technology. However, at present the transfer of technological process would be barred under WTO s
Trade Related Investment Measures (TRIMS). But in the past, if New England had not barred cheaper
British textiles by imposing very high tariffs just as Britain had done to India the United States might
have been left out of the industrial revolution altogether (Juhasz, pg 419). Additionally, the renowned
Asian financial crisis occurred when the countries allowed unrestricted capital flows and opened their
markets to IMF. Before the crisis they used closed market policies to protect domestic entrepreneurs
and develop support industries, while importing technology. As a consequence of these flawed
policies, developed nations have open access to resources of developing nations, discouraging
economic prosperity and efficiency whilst increasing income inequality.
While free trade is always better than trade restrictions and distortions, it can exacerbate existing
asymmetries between rich and poor nations and therefore result into poverty and inequality (Marks et
al., pg 617). The systems in place to ensure free and fair trade do not always

Pamela Meyer Liar
Pamela Meyer in her speech identify different concept of communication through which one can
identify a liar. The speaker attributes speech, body language, confidences and other distinctive features
that are used to identify a liar. She attributes day to day activities as the environments at which liars
may exist. The speaker s ideas are based on assumptions and personal components. The ideas
highlighted by the speaker could be applicable to some instances but may fail to reflect the truth of the
matter. There is need to analyze this concept with respect to various concepts. The speaker effectively
proofs her point but fails to acknowledge exceptions within her speech. The essay will focus on the
main points highlighted by the author and use them to identify the authenticity of the speech.
Perceptions and personal opinions could differ from the reality. The manner in which a person
presents his or her points could be either persuasive or misleading. In Meyer s speech, she emphasizes
on verbal language. As a means of identifying when one is lying, the speaker acknowledges the
difference displayed in speech. However, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nature in which a person cooperates or relates will tell if they are a liar (Meyer, 2011). In this
case, a liar may fail to cooperate in an effect to divert attention or create a sense of unease to the
second party. A person telling the truth will cooperate no matter what the situation may seem. In this
instance, the speaker provides elements of truth. A person interacting with other parties in this case
would identify the truth. That nature of cooperation is applicable to various environments. In most
cases, suspects may tend to apply the technique to avoid convictions. Convictions in this case would
be the consequences of lies. Those who perfect the act of lying may be an exception using this

History, Family Structure, And Culture Essay
Belize has been historically known for its tourism for several of years. This first started dating back
about 2000 years ago when the Ancient Mayans were introduced. We have learned so much about
their culture and history thanks to years of research and the help of archaeologists excavating several
Mayan ruins in Belize. Although the number of Mayans still alive today has greatly reduced they still
had a major impact to our culture as shown through the many challenges they had to overcome and the
discoveries that they made. Some of the topics that will be addressed will be geography, history,
family structure, and culture. The Mayans are known for their diversity as they are divided into three
different regions; the northern highlands, the central lowlands, and the southern highlands. The overall
name for this was called Mesoamerica which spreads across five different countries. These countries
were Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, and El Salvador. There are different groups that make up
the Mayans. According to Lafond (1996), Some of the largest Maya groups are found in Mexico, the
most important of these being the Yucatects, the Tzotzil, and the Tzeltal. Specifically, in Belize, they
are comprised of three Mayans groups; the Kekchi Maya, the Yucatec Maya, and the Mopan Mayans.
The Kekchi Mayans immigrated from San Pedro in Guatemala then to Belize where they occupied
eight villages, specifically in the Toledo district. The Yucatects migrated from South Mexico and

The Works of Poet Carl Sandburg and His Effect on American...
The Works of Poet Carl Sandburg and His Effect on American Poetry
The beloved poet, Carl Sandburg, changed the course of American poetry.
He was a poet, novelist, journalist, and songwriter, yet the influence of his works have not always
been acknowledged. Carl Sandburg s evocations of American urban and rural life, compassion for
people, and his love of nature, through his works have made an enormous contribution to the
American literary scene. Carl Sandburg was born on January 6, 1878 to illiterate parents of
Swedish decent in Galesburg, Illinois. Much of Sandburg s literary works are a result of his life time
observations. He, more generously than many of his fellow authors, left a detailed account of his
wanderings, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sandburg is too interested in the half tones of humanity, the highlights of humor, the terse queerness.
He is interested in atmosphere....The new sapience, it seems to me, is what Sandburg fails to show.
(clc 35,347) Now, on the other hand Amy Lowell, another critic, has a complete opposite view on the
poem s by Carl Sandburg. The seeing eye Mr. Sandburg has it to a superlative degree, and wedded to
it, an imaginative utterance which owes nothing whatever to literature or tradition. It is a fascinating
and baffling study this of examining how Mr. Sandburg does it....It is, more than anything else, the
sharp, surprising rightness of his descriptions which gives Mr.
Sandburg his high position in the poetry of today. (clc 35,341) These critics views are on the extreme
opposite sides of the scale.
Benet feels Sandburg s poetry is uncohesive, unstructured, and just not sapient.
While Lowell feels his poetry is imaginative and fascinating, along with baffling. If Sandburg were
alive to read the analysis of his poetry by the critics, he probably would have writing a poem about it.
It would have fascinated him, how two people could have such opposite views. In The People,
Yes, a large percentage of the poem is based on the different views and values of people in our society.
Chicago is another one of Carl Sandburg s well known poem s,

On August 6th, 1945 Akihiro Takahashi, a 14 year old boy, never made it to school. Instead, he was
engulfed in a tremendous heat and left on the side of a Hiroshima street to watch his own flesh melt

city, Eiko Taoka would watch helplessly as her infant son died of radiation poisoning something she
blames herself for to this day (Taoka). There are thousands of stories like these, and each one
describes the incredible destructive power behind atomic weapons and the deep wounds they leave
behind. Even now, seventy years after that fateful day, writers and filmmakers utilize the terror

This move was largely due to the hardships experienced on American soil during the Great Depression
and its losses in World War I (American Isolationism). However on December 7th, 1941, the
isolationist stance held by the United States was shattered when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor
and war was officially declared on Japan, Germany, and Italy (American Isolationism). This war
would go on for another four years, taking with it close to 50 million lives and devastating not only
families, but entire nations (By The Numbers). Due to the incredible loss of life, the United States
understood that ending the war, especially the ongoing war in the pacific, was of paramount
importance. Unfortunately for the Japanese, it would be its country s own sense of pride and
nationalism that brought its undoing. Despite being overpowered, without resources, and lacking a
functioning navy, the Japanese government refused to surrender to the United States (Powers). Many
have speculated that a contributing factor may have been Japan s ancient belief in bushido an old
Samurai idea that the supreme sacrifice of life was the purest of accomplishments (Powers). This
suggested that the Japanese army was willing to fight until they had exhausted all their resources, all
their lives, and left their country in ruin. While he knew that continuing the

An impermeable, escape proof HIV inhibitor is yet to be discovered, more so engineered; however
many scientists continue to expand the possibilities of HIV inhibition through renowned cutting edge
research. Retroviral pathogenesis of HIV has been targeted at multiple stages of viral entry,
replication, and release, with the most promising points of drug target being the initial interaction
between the CD4 T cell and the envelope mediated fusion of the HIV virion with the CD4+ Helper T
cell. Currently, HIV entry (fusion) inhibitors range from small lectins found in algae, to antibody

Presently, the predominant virus is HIV 1, and generally when people refer to HIV without specifying
the type of virus they will be referring to HIV 1. The relatively uncommon HIV 2 type is concentrated
in West Africa and is rarely found anywhere else. There are currently over 34 million cases of this
disease reported worldwide.3 This disease is very slow to develop and may not cause any significant
symptoms before it causes damage, as it is seen a person can have an HIV infection for years before it
progresses to AIDS. Usually, people infected with HIV progress to AIDS when their CD4 cell count
falls below 200.
VIRAL LIFE CYCLE
The main steps in the viral life cycle are (i) attachment of the viral gp120 to the CD4 T cell receptor,
(ii) binding of the gp120 to CCR5 or CXCR4 co receptors and (iii) fusion of the viral and cellular
membranes HIV entry into the cell is mediated by its trimeric envelope (Env) glycoprotein
gp120/gp41 complex and it happens in two major steps. [1, 2, 4] First, the surface subunit gp120 binds
to the cell receptor (CD4) and a co receptor (CCR5 or CXCR4). Upon receptor binding, the gp41
which is originally sheltered by gp 120, undergoes a dramatic transition from its native state into an
extended pre hair pin intermediate. Then, the transmembrane subunit gp41 inserts its fusion peptide
(FP) into the cell membrane and packs

The Once and Future King: Themes for the Future
After a good binge read or movie marathon, the audience will feel more prepared for the real world or

that lasting experience, was a theme. There are many interesting themes in T.H White s novel, The

the first theme, Queen Guenever finds that love is complicated, as a result of her own complex love

this world. One such miracle was when he went to King Pelles castle and saved his daughter, Elaine
from the curse that kept her boiling in hot water for many years. He had left Arthur s castle for his
second quest, which was the turning point of his life (White 369). He had heard about King Pelles and
decided to go and see what all the fuss was about. When he arrived, he was greeted by the people of
the village, who told him about fair Elaine and her curse. He then went to rescue her, albeit rather
reluctantly, then went to the church to thank God. Lancelot was so preoccupied that [it] was half way

finally been granted. However, just a few days later, he lost his ability to make miracles because, in
the words of Lancelot, Only virgins can make miracles (White 376). The second time Lancelot had
performed a miracle was when he healed Sir Urre s wounds, as they were enchanted by the mother of

Practice of marriage is an institution which has existed for centuries. Mostly marriage is considered as
one of the best form of relationship as kinship between two individuals. Marriage usually occurs when
both parties make their relationship public, official and permanent. The Legal Information Institute in
Cornell University Law School defines marriage as a legal union of a couple on the following
conditions: 1) both parties should be legally able to marry each other 2) mutual consent 3) a lawful
marriage contract (Gangoli et al., 2011: 26) (Marriage). This definition of marriage is ideal for

Marriage with the Quran is one form of marriage practiced in Sindh, a province of Pakistan (Uzma,
2003) (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 42,). According to The Friday Times of Pakistan, a large number of
feudals in Sindh have married their daughter or sisters to the Quran(Uzma, 2003) (Akhtar and
Métraux, 2013:43). This marriage is followed by a ceremony where the girl has to take a bath (Uzma,
2003) (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 42, 43) and usually her head is covered with white dupatta. After
the marriage she is isolated from any social contact and she must study and recite the Quran everyday
and know it by heart. Additionally, other than reciting Quran, she cannot do anything or live her life
according to her wish (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 43). They also have to hang the text around their
waists with a cord and cannot approach a boy older than 14 years (Uzma, 2003). There are several
justifications given for this practice: 1) when a family cannot find a proper match for their daughter by
the father or brother, and woman remains unmarried forever and 2) this is practice to preserve family
money and property, which might be lost if the girl gets married to another family or when they have
to provide dowry (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 42). So in this way, the woman is not allowed to marry
a man and will stay forever in their father s home (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 42). If anyone wants

Scaffolding And Scaffolding Beams On The Walls Of The Cave
Scaffolding could be considered an art in the right eyes, it is over 17,000 years old and around since
the oldest civilizations. The scale of the paintings suggests that the artists must have used ladders and
scaffolding. Archaeologists discovered sockets for scaffolding beams in the walls of the cave.
(Encarta, 2003). Scaffolding is full of culture and is used by everyone in some way. There s many
different styles, but there s usually one uniform way now with steel scaffolding. I really chose this
topic for my senior project, because of my interest i have with scaffolding. I began working with
scaffolding over the summer as a small job to make money, but looking back at it now I really enjoyed
doing it. Working over the summer interested me in not only the basics of building, but the history that
is behind it. Over all I really thought that this was going to be very boring and tedious, which I was
not a wrong assumption. This project added to everything else i have to do is a wonderful way to learn
about responsibility. Ultimately I wanted to just skip over this as best as possible, but no way to dodge
it now. As I continue to go through I notice that it s not easy to find reliable sources for my subject. I
enjoy scaffolding but, it was a mistake picking this. I have no idea what I m going to do.

The Visual Recognition Of Image Patterns
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background to the Study
As a scientific discipline, computer vision is concerned with the extraction of information from
images to be employed in a decision making process. The image data can take many forms, such as
video sequences, still images, digitized maps, diagrams and sketches. These images may be in colour
format, grey scale or in binary format. The common approach is to extract characteristic features from
the image either in the spatial domain or in some suitable transform domain. Whether the goal is
classification or recognition, a measure of similarity or distance must be formulated and the success
rate of the system evaluated. Some of the application areas of computer vision are:
1.1.1. Robotics
The visual recognition of image patterns is a fundamental human attribute that uses the eye as a sensor
and dedicated parts of the brain as the decision making processor. The visual recognition enables
humans to perform a variety of tasks such as target identification, ease of movement, handling tools,
communication among others. Advances in sensing and visual perception techniques have enabled
some of these attributes to be transferred to robots. For example, identification of colour is a useful
asset in a robot in an industrial automation process that involves sorting. [1], [2], [3]
1.1.2. Industrial Inspection
Industrial inspection is an area in which pattern recognition is of importance. A pattern recognition
system captures images

For instance, Oji Okoro (2010) in his study, the relationship between FDI and telecommunication
growth in Nigeria, expounded that FDI influx boosted the growth of the country s telecommunication
sector tremendously. A host of research has been carried out to investigate the significance of foreign
direct investment on the economy of Nigeria; however, most of these researches are concentrated on
the sector where the large chunk of these investments goes to the oil and gas sector. The low level of
foreign direct investment in the agricultural sector might be one major reason why not much work has
been done to analyze the impact of FDI in Nigeria s agricultural sector. A sectorial analysis of
cumulative foreign direct investment in Nigeria from 1980 2007 is described in Figure 1. The major
gap this study points out and intends to address is that, studies that have even attempted to empirically
study the impact of FDI in the agricultural sector of Nigeria use the FDI that is obtained in the entire

Chesapeake Bay Prevention Essay
Prevention is necessary to control many problems in the Chesapeake Bay. Prevention can range from
something as big as a government issue or as small as a single person helping out. The greatest chance
at total protection for water quality is when many people and organizations work together to prevent
problems. According to the Chesapeake Bay Program, Federal, state and non profit Bay Program
partners are working with farmers, developers, homeowners and local governments to reduce
pollutants from multiple sources and restore water quality for all to enjoy (Chesapeake Bay Program).
The Chesapeake Bay Program is doing many things to help with prevention of water quality. Extreme

For example, the Monkton Fly Shop in Maryland will be cleaning six wader wash stations so waders
can be cleaned from invasive species. These wash stations are there to wash invasive species off of
waders so invasive species are not transferred into the Chesapeake Bay. The fly shop s twice weekly
online fishing report (www.backwaterangler.com) regularly reminds Gunpowder anglers to wash,
scrub, and rinse their boots and wading shoes (Anonymous 2011). Felt soles on the waders trap
invasive species within the felt and when the waders are used again the invasive species are
transferred to that water source. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is following actions
already taken by New Zealand, Alaska, and Vermont to prohibit the use of felt soles (Anonymous
2011).
Scientists studying fish in the Chesapeake Bay stated that they have discovered mycobacteria in some
of the fish, causing ulcers, emaciation and sometimes death. The article also talks about this kind of
mycobacteria having harmful effects on humans. People should be more careful about dealing with
fish in the Chesapeake Bay. While the scientists are still studying and learning about this new
discovery, they are also looking into and leaning towards prevention. According to the article,

Erick Erickson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Theory Erick Erickson (1950,1963) proposed to a psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development
comprising eight stages from infancy to adult with each stage a person will experience some sort of
psychosocial experience that may have a negative or positive outcome for their personal development.
The psychosocial have eight stages each stage are depending the age of the child. The stages are; trust
vs mistrust this is the infancy stage at this stage the infant is uncertain about the world they live in to
end the feeling of uncertainty the infant looks upon their primary care giver for stability, autonomy vs
shame this is the early child hood stage children who complete this stage successfully leave feeling
secure and confident in themselves while for those who do not are left with a sense of shame and
doubt of self, initiative vs guilt play age children display curiosity about the world, and begin to assert
their power and contract of the world through direct play and social interaction they also feel a sense
of guilt when they take a negative initiative and are punished, industry vs inferiority the school age if a
child is praised for doing their best and encouraged to finish task then industry may result, while the
child who ant master their school work may think of themselves as a failure and feeling inferiority
may arise, identity vs role confusion the adolescence stage this is the main stage and most important
development task for adolescents are to constructer their own unique sense of identity and find the
social environment where they can belong to and have meaningful relationship( Chen, Lay Wu, Yao,
2007), intimacy vs isolation young adult, adults who successful in resolving the conflict of this stage
are able to develop deep meaningful relationship with others while adults who struggles with this
stage experience poor relationship ( Cherry, Gans), generative vs stagnation adulthood stage failing to
achieve this stage they become stagnant and feel unproductive while success in it will lead to the
feeling of virtue and care(McLeod), and lastly ego integrity vs despair maturity stage to be successful

Being A Palliative Care Nurse
Palliative Care
Throughout this course, I have learned new information and refreshed myself on old information. I
was also able to connect old information with caring for individuals going through palliative or end of
life care. Being a palliative care nurse can be a busy and stressful job. The nurse needs to be fully
educated on many different areas to be able to provide the best possible care for the patients and their
families. A few of the topics that we discussed were the role of the palliative care nurse, cultural
competency, pain control of those in palliative care, communication strategies, and legal and ethical
issues that may occur during the end of one s life.
Role of Professional Nurse in Palliative Care
Nurses of all areas have many different roles and responsibilities. As a palliative care nurse, their roles
can include being a consultant, educator, role model, and mentor (Matzo Sherman, 2015, p. 13). In the
video Lessons On Living From The Dying An Interview With A Palliative Care Nurse On Kirsty TV
(2013), the nurse showed that it is important to educate the patient and their family, be available for
the patient in many forms such as an active listener, a shoulder to cry on, etc, involve the family in the
healthcare and the decisions that are being made, provide a calm environment and a positive
atmosphere (kick the negativity out the door immediately), and most importantly be there with the
patient during this time. Caring for these patients and

Essay on The Growing Population
A Growing Population: Problem or Excuse? The current worldwide population is around 6.9 billion
and is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050 (Baird). This projected population number is down from the
once predicted 16 billion (Baird) and while some are not concerned others are worried by any increase
in population. Population growth is discussed in the articles Too Many People? by Vanessa Baird;
Population Control: How Can There Possibly Be Too Many of Us? by Frank Furedi; and The
Population Bomb Revisited, by Paul R. Ehrlich and Anne H. Ehrlich. Baird and Furedi concur that the
concern over population growth has been around since mathematician Thomas Malthus, in 1798,
warned that overpopulation could lead to the collapse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Furedi and Ehrlich and Ehrlich take different sides on the concern for population growth Baird
provides information from UN projections. Baird comments that the world population will continue to
grow and that it will begin to decline and stabilize. She believes that this should add perspective to the
worry over population growth and points out that one factor in our population growth being temporary
is a declining fertility rate (Baird). Ehrlich and Ehrlich also acknowledge a relationship between birth
rates and population growth and offer finding ways to reduce the birthrate as one solution to the
population problem (68). When discussing population growth the authors offer their perspectives on
population control programs (family planning). Ehrlich and Ehrlich stay true to the message of their
book when acknowledging the positive role of government sponsored programs in education ,
education for women, and programs making contraceptives more accessible (65), in reducing the birth
rate. Baird comments on Australian Demographer Peter McDonald pointing out the reason population
will not reach 16 billion is due to the success of family planning. Baird proposes a chicken and egg
scenario in which education lowers the fertility rate and a lower fertility rate can equal more
education. She explains benefits of a declining

Role Of Havisham In Great Expectations
This dissertation explores the representation of Estella Havisham as the gothic Femme Fatale in
Dickens Great Expectations. I will examine how Estella Havisham was imagined in Dickens Great
Expectations and how her personality was shaped into the Victorian era. I will explore the character of
Estella Havisham as a Narcissist, taking into account the works of psychoanalysts like Sigmund
Freud, Lou Andreas Salome and Salvok Zizek in order to further elaborate her character as a Femme

These norms were influenced by various factors such as economy, domesticity, gender roles, religion,
imperialism, and much more. Amid the period symbolized by the rule of British ruler Queen Victoria,
women were not liable to have the right to sue, suffrage rights, or the right to own property. In the
meantime, women took part in the paid workforce in expanding numbers taking after the Industrial
Revolution. Feminist ideas spread among the informed female working classes, the women s suffrage
movement picked up force and discriminatory laws were cancelled in the last years of the Victorian
age. In the Victorian Era, women were thought as only fitting in with the domestic sphere and this
stereotype obliged them to limit themselves only to their household and raising children. Alex Owen
puts this Victorian ideal of woman in words as The categorisation of so called female virtues found its
expression in the sentimental and idealised notion of the spiritually refined angel in the house woman
as an angelic creature whose rightful sphere of influence was the home and domesticity (7). By
making domesticity seem desirable to the Victorian women they used such tools in order to keep them
behind doors. Owen further explains the Victorian feminine roles by pointing out, In analysing many
discourses which together constituted the Victorian ideology of femininity, including the domestic
literature written for, and often by, women, it becomes clear that perspective understanding was
underpinned by certain major constituents. Among the most important of these was the notion of
innate female passivity, a negative attribute constructed in opposition to so called masculine will
power. Along with this went the concepts of female frailty, constructed in opposition to a standard
masculine strength and virility; a moral and spiritual sensibility which acted as the

The emergence of research dedicated to TF CBT and its focus removes a significant amount of
ambiguity from the prescription of treatment. Due to the overwhelming positive response in research,
clinicians now can confidently recommend TF CBT and prevent further suffering within patients.
Also, completing additional research in this area could lead to even more efficient and helpful
methods of treatment. For young people who experienced trauma, this interactive treatment method
can bring about progressive changes in their behavior and their thoughts, which can help to eradicate
PTSD over the course of treatment as well as the time that follows it. References

Analysis Of Man On The Moon
Man On the Moon
When man first walked on the moon it was a very big accomplishment for mankind especially the
U.S.A., many people wrote articles or simply talked about and shared their opinions on this huge
accomplishment. In the text that appeared on Times magazine titled, Man Takes First Steps on the
Moon , one can see how much of an accomplishment it was for the U.S and many other people to have
been able to walk on the moon. In the text ethos and logos are used a few times to be able to make a
more possibly effective text on people reading the article and be able to show how much of a huge
deal this was for mankind. The following sentence is the first sentence in the paragraph which says a
lot about what the text is going to go towards, Neil Armstrong became the first man to take a walk on
the moon s surface early today. , seeing that the first sentence is about how a man walked on the moon
it shows most likely the rest of the text will be based around or on this man s actions. The next
sentence shows how many people including the president and pope expressed how it was a huge
accomplishment for mankind for a man to walk on the moon and make it back to Earth safely, At
Castelgandolfo the Pope greeted news of the lunar landing by exclaiming: Glory to God in the highest
and peace on earth to men of goodwill! , it makes sure to state it is the pope talking about the moon

Northern Colonies Similarities
The first permanent North American colony was established in 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia. This was
the first colony established in the southern territory of the Americas. Years later in 1620, Plymouth,
Massachusetts became the first northern colony established in the Americas. Although both were
established around the same time period and both originated from Britain, it was evident from the
beginning that their motives were different. Most colonies settling in the north were attempting to flee
religious persecution, while Southern colonies were founded for economic gain. Although there were
some apparent similarities in the beginning, the colonies began to develop different economic systems,
religious views, and government. Therefore, the statement that the north and south had more
similarities than differences is not valid. The north and south had drastically different ecosystems,
shaping two completely different economic systems. The northern territories had a cooler climate as
well as poor soil, allowing only the production of staple crops, making it very hard to create an
economy based on trade from agricultural production. In contrast, the south had very fertile soil with a
warmer climate. This allowed the South s economy to rely on cash crops. The South s primary crop
was tobacco, which was very successful, leading to huge profit. Tobacco was in very high demand,
creating enormous plantations that required large labor forces. However, it was difficult to find enough

Cognitive theory refers to seeing problem behaviors on television this brings additional information to
the memory which is in relation to the behavior. Thus, when someone view tobacco and alcohol by
role models, they are more tempted to consume tobacco and alcohol.(Hansen)
Social learning theory explains that when someone view health risk and problem behaviors on

The Extinction Of Dinosaurs
Cribbins 1 Hook. The extinction of dinosaurs is a mystery in itself that has stumped scientists all over
the world for decades, and they still look for new answers every day. Scientists know some
background information, but cannot connect the dots to see the bigger picture. There was little interest
in the topic until Luis and Walter Alvarez proposed a groundbreaking hypothesis, which today we call
the Alvarez Hypothesis . This new idea of the Alvarez s was exciting, and therefore got the media
talking about it, which in turn started the search of how the dinosaurs went extinct. Another popular
theory of how dinosaurs went extinct is the Volcanism Theory. Scientists have recently found new
evidence supporting both sides of this debate. Although many dinosaur extinction theories exist, only
the Alvarez Hypothesis is correct. Scientists abase their extinction theories off one of commonly
known piece of information: that there was a change in climate around the time of the K T boundary.
Both major theories support this idea, and both believe that something blocked out the Sun for many
months. This stopped the photosynthesis in plants, the base of the food chain. Without plants, the food
chain was majorly affected. A domino effect happened, and one species died out after another.
Eventually all species of dinosaurs died out. Scientists know that there was a global climatic change,
but are not sure how it happened. The topic of the K T Extinction received little

Lovecraft does not give his main character a name. H.P. Lovecraft does not tell the readers anything

When George Gammell Angell dies the main character goes through George s things, finding George s

Catch 22 Satire Essay
Stylistic use of satire in literature has been around for centuries. The use of satire is to ridicule human
follies, shortcomings, and vices by exaggerating, distorting, or using irony to showcase the
foolishness. Satire in literature is directed at society, the government, or the military to show social
criticism, and what needs to be changed. The definition of satire was founded by classical writers such
Alexander Pope, John Dryden and Jonathan Swift, in two major forms: gentle (Horatian) and harsh
(Juvenalian). Gentle satire is mildly making fun of a subject with wit. This form of satire tends to ask
the audience to laugh at themselves as much as the players. (Mitchel ) Harsh satire is condemning and
criticizing a subject. This form of satire is more judgmental, asking the audience to respond with
indignation to the events it portrays. (Mitchel ) In the twentieth and nineteenth century authors
continued to use both forms and combine them to ridicule new issues in society. Catch 22, by Joseph
Heller, is an example where the author uses a combination of harsh and gentle satire to ridicule a
central issue around society at the time of WWII. Catch 22 also blends both forms of satire to

The Adoption Of Electronic Health Records
According to a survey from SK A, after an initial migration to health IT solutions, practice owners
adoption of electronic health records (EHR) has plateaued with only about a 2.8% increase from
January 2014 to January 2015. The survey found that overall adoption by physicians is 62.8%, and
that, in general, the larger the practice, the (not surprisingly) higher the adoption rates, with 77.2% of
docs at medical groups of 25 or more members using EHRs this is compared to only 54.5% of solo
practitioners adopting the technology. Why the Drop in Adoption Rates? Other survey findings clearly
illustrate the fact that while EHRs do come with benefits, most are not embraced by physicians
because of their lack of functionality and difficulty of use. According to this survey , overall provider
satisfaction with EHRs has declined by almost 30% over the past five years. Conducted by the
American Medical Association and American EHR Partners, the survey questioned 940 practice
owners about their level of satisfaction with their EHR. What was interesting right off the bat about
these findings was that only 34% of physicians said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their
EHR systems compared to 61% of respondents who were satisfied only five years ago. The survey
also found: 42% of physicians described their EHR s ability to improve efficiency as difficult or very
difficult. 43% said they were consistently challenged with their EHR s ability to address productivity.

Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead
In the play, Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead, the author, Tom Stoppard conveys his worldview to
the readers. Throughout the play, readers are able to determine Stoppard s worldviews on the role of
the everyday man s role in society, and most noticeable, death. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are
presented as two characters who represent the everyday person. In the play, they are looking for
purpose and direction for their lives. Just like the character, Hamlet, in Shakespeare s Hamlet,
Guildenstern struggles with finding direction in his life because he tends to overthink things. This
overthinking does not help him with finding direction in his life and eventually, like Hamlet, leads to
his death. Rosencrantz on the other hand is the opposite of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Stoppard reflects on the idea that while Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are seeking this direction and
purpose, they are not receiving. In the play, Stoppard includes the character of the Player. The player
is an ironic character because he is in control of the play that the players put on, he is the most honest.
The Players discusses that what [they] do on stage [is] the things that are supposed to happen off.
Unlike Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, the players are able to become anyone other people or society
wants from them. This makes it so that whatever they encounter, they will be successful. As the play
concludes, the players and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern know the only certain direction that life will
take them is death. From the speech about death in a box, to the play of the Murder of Gonzago,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern discover that while death is certain, they cannot change their fate.
While Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are sailing to England, they embrace their fate because they learn
that they cannot change the direction that fate is bringing them

Changmin Alternate Ending
Changmin closed his eyes and allowed his other senses to be engulfed with what was only him. His
smell, touch, sound and overall presence. How can one person demand so much with so little?
Changmin was caught very much in his web of charms; just like a fly caught by the spider. The more
he struggled the more he found himself unable to fly away.
The strong hands that held his own body so close and the lips that brushed over his skin ever so
lightly. Melting, Changmin was melting in his arms like putty. You belong to me. Those words were
spoken in a whisper, I belong to you. Those words touched Changmin s already squeezed heart.
Opening his eyes and finding the purpose for the unnatural way his heart thumped in his chest,
Changmin could not breathe the words he wished to respond and was left with his ... Show more

Yunho could not let him go, could not let him rest and let him live the rest of his eternity in peace. The
tears that were falling were real, wet against his thumb as he tried to wipe each one that threatened to
fall. Changmin s body was slowly regaining heat. It s life that was once lost so many times before.
Changmin does not remember his past lives. In a few moments he will not remember this but open his
eyes again to a smiling Yunho and another story that Yunho has made up. He would smile and thank
God he was alive and Yunho will begin creating his new story for the next time.
As the Angel of death, Yunho dealt with the souls of humans that he guided to limbo for judgement.
When he met Changmin, the Angel fell in love and broke rules as he brought the young man back to
life. They would live happily in love until fate will catch up and take Changmin again. Each time,
Yunho will bring his love back.
It was tit for tat between fate and Yunho and the Angel of death was slowly realizing that not even he
can stop what was meant to happen but he will do everything in his power to keep

Risk Management Plays a Vital Role in Healthcare...
Risk managers are a vital lifeline in the healthcare organization. If this organization had an active risk
manager in place, many of the events leading up to the infant losing its life could have been prevented.
There are many steps that a risk manager must take once a risk is identified, this paper will walk
through the steps that are required after the risk happened. A risk manager plays an important role with
the events in this infant case study. Risk managers hold a wide variety of responsibilities that include:

Once the root cause analysis and action plan have been prepared and submitted to The Joint
Commission, they will decide if the plans are adequate. If the determination that an event is
reviewable under the Sentinel Event Policy occurs more than forty five calendar days following the
known occurrence of the event, the hospital s response will be due in fifteen calendar days. If the
hospital has failed to submit a root cause analysis within an additional 45 days following its due date,
its accreditation decision may be impacted (Sentinel Events, n.d). Once a sentinel event takes place,
the next step is to perform a root cause analysis. Root cause analysis is a systematic process used to
address problems or non conformance to identify the source of the problem. A root cause is the
underlying breakdown or failure of a process when resolved, prevents the problem from recurring
(Connelly, 2012). As soon as the event happens the root analysis should begin and should include
everyone involved. The team should list in chronological order all the steps related to the error. A
cause and effect diagram is useful to visualize the steps that lead up to the event. After identifying the
root cause, the team can develop prevention measures and plans for evaluation known as the action

women can have light symptoms that are mistaken for other health issues, such as indigestion, food

Olaudah Equiano On Slavery
Olaudah Equiano on Slavery, a book written by Olaudah Equiano
Pontiac, Two Speeches, one speech is from 1762 and the other from 1763 by Pontiac
New York Workingmen demand a Voice in the Revolutionary Struggle, an article from Brutus, To the
Free and Loyal Inhabitants of the City and Colony of New York
Everyone has a different view about Freedom and Slavery. In this book, It describes that everyone has
their own personal opinion of what freedom and slavery is. Olaudah Equiano had to deal with
struggling to live a normal life and since he had to be cautious so he wouldn t become a slave. That is
one of the most scariest situations to be in. Though he witnesses the sale of slaves in the West Indies,
Equiano himself is not purchased, and he stayed with the Dutch ship, traveling from the West Indies to
North America. There he is purchased and put to work on a Virginia plantation, doing light field work
and household chores. He is not in Virginia long before Michael Henry Pascal, a lieutenant in the
British royal navy and captain of a merchant ship, purchases him as a present to some of his friends in
England (Equiano p. 94)This shows how the times were back in the day and scary it was! No one was
safe and to live in that constant struggle was even more terrifying. Pontiac believed that him and the
other native indians should ve given more freedom Pontiac exclaims, We are not your slaves. These
lakes, these woods and mountains, were left to us by our ancestors

Treatment of Death During the Renaissance and in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is arguably the most well known and well read play in history. With
its passionate and realistic treatment of universal themes of love, fate, war, and death, it s not difficult
to see why. However, most people don t realize that there are several versions of the play, each with
their own unique additions and/or changes to the plot, dialogue, and characters. After thumbing
through the texts located here on this website, you can see even at a glance the distinct differences
between the versions of Romeo and Juliet. This essay will explore how people dealt with death during
the Renaissance in context to Shakespeare s Tragedy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reactions of the Friar to Juliet s death in the Lamentable Tragedie, however, show a difference of
theology toward death that we, in contemporary society cannot fully grasp.
Peace ho for shame, confusions care lives not,
In these confusions heaven and your selfe
Had part in this faire maide, now heaven hath all,
And all the better is it for the maid...
...And in her best array beare her to Church:
For though some nature bids us all lament,
Yet natures teares are reasons merriment (4.5)
Could it be possible that the Friar is advising the Capulets to rejoice in their sorrow for the death of
their daughter? And yet the text clearly illustrates the premise. How can this be true?
Social Background of the Period
In order to understand the meaning behind the consoling words of the Friar, we must first recognize
them in context to the historical period for which they were written. As a segue into this next section I
am reminded of an old story that was prevalent during

Comparing Julius Caesar And Antony
Octavian and Antony No contemporaries could have possibly known for sure as to who the victor
would be from the conflict that arose between Gaius Julius Ceasar Octavianus, Octavian, and Marcus
Antonius, Antony. However, knowing what the ultimate outcome of the struggle was, one may be able
to look back into history and offer key reasons as to why Octavian was able to defeat Antony.
Ultimately, I believe there was not one key reason for Octavian victory. It was a combination of
Octavian s proximity to Rome, his favor with the citizens, and the elimination of his opposition at
home that all combined to allow his eventual triumph. Overlooking some smaller details, it is first
important to know that after Julius Ceasar s assassination that Octavian was named his heir and
returned to Italy to claim this inheritance. From here, he gathered military power and allowed the
senate to use him, in order to advance his political position, and he was sent to fight against a
rebellious Antony. At this point, Octavian did not try to decimate Antony s forces, instead he proposed
and ultimately formed the second triumvirate with Antony and Lepidus as the other heads of the state
(Wells 13). From here, the Roman territories were divided into areas of governorship with Antony
taking the east, Octavian the west, and Lepidus had the Africa territories (Wells 17). This would turn
out to be one of the main contributing factors in Octavian s ultimate success; for it allowed him the
opportunity

Early Psychological Theory While science worked diligently to quantify and validate early

According to Adler, this initial state of inadequacy people obtain is the result of factors, such as
neglect in their childhood, that significantly influence and shape how a child perceives him or herself
as well as the choices he or she makes. Therefore, only through assisting people in identifying the
factors that led them to the distorted view of themselves can change, healing, growth, and the
development of a new, healthy self image occur. Playing a major role in child development, among
numerous other areas, Adler s beliefs and theories became widely accepted within the world of
psychology therefore significantly influencing modern day psychology. William James William James
was an American philosopher whose work in psychology in the nineteenth century recognized science
as a crucial element in the improvement of social and philosophical doctrines (Allen, 1967). His blend
of psychology and philosophy refined his concept of pragmatism. This pragmatic approach grasped
the meaning of the ideas and truth of his beliefs in an approach that influenced the lives of individuals
as opposed to the abstract sense of ideas (Hothersall, 1995). His research also outlined the
understanding of consciousness and the self, a proactive position and perception of truth, and a

Essay on Stonehenge
Stonehenge
Stonehenge was a stone structure established a long time ago by civilizations before the Druid age.
More than 4,000 years ago, the people of the Neolithic period supposedly decided to build a massive
monument using earth, timber and eventually, stones. They placed it high on Salisbury Plain in
Wiltshire, England about 137 kilometres southwest of London. The purpose to build Stonehenge still
remains a mystery. Stonehenge could have been a temple, an astronomical calendar, or a guide to the
heavens. Stonehenge acts as a prehistoric timepiece, allowing us to speculate on what it would have
been like during the Neolithic Period, and who could have built this megalithic wonder. Over 25

To drag the sarsen stones, weighing up to 45 tons, or the weight of six elephants, from Marlborough
Downs 30 kilometers to the south of Stonehenge would have been quite a accomplishment. The
bluestones, in contrast, were about four tons but are believed to have come from a much farther place
like the Preseli Mountains nearly 385 kilometres away from Stonehenge. Popular theory suggests the
stones were rolled to the Welsh shore, carried on raft around the coast and into the River Avon, at
Bristol. Other prehistorians do not believe they were carried that far. These bluestones came from the
same Preseli Mountains, but glaciation brought the bluestones to the area surrounding Stonehenge
during the last glacier period in history, the period was called the Plyoscene period, it was 650,000
years ago. Out of the other 1,300 stone circle in Britain, Ireland and Brittany, France, most are made
of local stone brought no more than seven or eight kilometers. If humans were to have carried these
stones all the way from these mountains, they would have only taken the good stones. The bluestones
found on Stonehenge are a mix of good, bad, and medium rock. Good bluestones were found in the
vicinity of Stonehenge thousands of years before the monument was

  • 2. Essay on Muddy Buddy Memories Every Christmas Eve, my dad, brother and I make Muddy Buddies for the rest of our family, but the Christmas Eve of 2006 stands out in particularly. My dad had just gotten back from an international business trip so he was a little out of it to say the least. He came home that day and later that afternoon went to the store to get all the ingredients we needed but unfortunately forgot how much of each ingredient to buy. That night when we were making our Muddy Buddies, he ended up going back to the store 3 times because we ran out of cereal, chocolate chips and powdered sugar. Making Muddy Buddies is incredibly important for me to know how to make because it is an annual tradition in my family that my dad, brother and I are known to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That bowl is then set aside. Next, we take the microwavable bowl and insert 1 cup of chocolate chips, half a cup of peanut butter and a quarter cup of thawed out margarine. That bowl is then put in the microwave for one minute, stirred, and then put in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds until smooth. Once smooth, we stir in one teaspoon of vanilla. The mixture made is then poured on top of the 9 cups of Chex cereal and stirred until evenly coated. My dad usually does the stirring or else my brother or I would stir so hard that it would squish the cereal. Once the cereal is evenly coated, it is then poured into a gallon sized re sealable bag. Then my dad holds the bag open while my brother pours in the one and a half cups of powdered sugar. The bag is then sealed and I get the fun job of shaking the bag until the powdered sugar coats all the cereal. Then I pour out the cereal onto the dining room table which is covered with wax paper. Then, we repeat the process until we run out of ingredients and have to run to the store to get more. As soon as we make enough Muddy Buddies for the entire family, is when we sprinkle the remaining powdered sugar on top of the cereal. Finally, we take smaller re sealable bags and fill over 20 bags with Muddy Buddies for each family member to give to them on Christmas Day, while any leftovers are given to my Grandma where she leaves them out throughout her house on Christmas for sharing. • 3. How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote... 1.2.1 How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote Substantive Equality This section provides a summary of the main findings of major reviews that have been conducted of the effectiveness of the Human Rights Act by the government, the Joint Committee on Human Rights and the Commission. The reviews indicated that the HRA had largely had a positive impact on public service delivery and the enjoyment of human rights. However there are a number of barriers to the HRA s effectiveness: significant misconceptions about the HRA are held by sections of the media, general public and at times public authorities (including by frontline staff in public authorities on when the HRA is not relevant), a need to improve understanding and application of the HRA by public authorities, and a need for better leadership on human rights issues by the government and the Commission. These issues are also linked to the discussion of the process for developing any Bill of Rights in Chapter 4. Reviews by the government and the Joint Committee on Human Rights There have been two reviews conducted by the government on the effectiveness of the HRA. In July 2006 the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) published a review in response to the Prime Minister s request to the Lord Chancellor to consider any problems with the implementation of the HRA. In addition, the Home Office conducted a review of the effect of the HRA in the context of a wider review of the criminal justice system to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ideal Alternatives identified for Redbox involves providing costumers more convince options. • 5. Racial Diversity in Jury Selection Racial Diversity in Jury Selection Barbara Sigler Unit 3 American Intercontinental University Abstract The selection process of juries was designed to select citizens that were equal peers of the person involved in the trial. However, many disparities exist and the selection process at times seems to be disproportionate relating to race or ethnicity. Reform of the legislature would benefit those that are not being properly served. It is the right of every citizen in this nation to have his or her case decided by a fair and impartial jury. The selection of the jury panel is one of great importance and one that can have a great effect on the outcome of the case. Therefore, it is obvious that the attorneys have a ... • 6. Discuss Some of the Arguments Made Against Globalization... Globalization is the interaction of world economies to become one big economy, for the sole purpose of enhancing free trade, growth and efficiency and employment. It emphasizes the neo liberal economic policies commonly referred to as the Washington Consensus of free trade, financial and capital market liberalization, deregulation and privatization (Juhasz, pg 408). The supporters of globalization argue that it is essential to an individual s advancement and economic progress, and constantly reiterate that an integrated market economy will bring prosperity worldwide. Whereas, critics of globalization believe that without a proper framework and policies, the consequence of globalization will have a great impact on world politics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These restrictions also show the double standards of globalization policies. If restrictive polices had been fairly exercised, Japan and US would not have industrialized to such great extent by importing technology. However, at present the transfer of technological process would be barred under WTO s Trade Related Investment Measures (TRIMS). But in the past, if New England had not barred cheaper British textiles by imposing very high tariffs just as Britain had done to India the United States might have been left out of the industrial revolution altogether (Juhasz, pg 419). Additionally, the renowned Asian financial crisis occurred when the countries allowed unrestricted capital flows and opened their markets to IMF. Before the crisis they used closed market policies to protect domestic entrepreneurs and develop support industries, while importing technology. As a consequence of these flawed policies, developed nations have open access to resources of developing nations, discouraging economic prosperity and efficiency whilst increasing income inequality. While free trade is always better than trade restrictions and distortions, it can exacerbate existing asymmetries between rich and poor nations and therefore result into poverty and inequality (Marks et al., pg 617). • 9. History, Family Structure, And Culture Essay Belize has been historically known for its tourism for several of years. This first started dating back about 2000 years ago when the Ancient Mayans were introduced. We have learned so much about their culture and history thanks to years of research and the help of archaeologists excavating several Mayan ruins in Belize. Although the number of Mayans still alive today has greatly reduced they still had a major impact to our culture as shown through the many challenges they had to overcome and the discoveries that they made. Some of the topics that will be addressed will be geography, history, family structure, and culture. The Mayans are known for their diversity as they are divided into three different regions; the northern highlands, the central lowlands, and the southern highlands. The overall name for this was called Mesoamerica which spreads across five different countries. These countries were Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, and El Salvador. There are different groups that make up the Mayans. According to Lafond (1996), Some of the largest Maya groups are found in Mexico, the most important of these being the Yucatects, the Tzotzil, and the Tzeltal. Specifically, in Belize, they are comprised of three Mayans groups; the Kekchi Maya, the Yucatec Maya, and the Mopan Mayans. The Kekchi Mayans immigrated from San Pedro in Guatemala then to Belize where they occupied eight villages, specifically in the Toledo district. The Yucatects migrated from South Mexico and ... • 10. The Works of Poet Carl Sandburg and His Effect on American... The Works of Poet Carl Sandburg and His Effect on American Poetry The beloved poet, Carl Sandburg, changed the course of American poetry. He was a poet, novelist, journalist, and songwriter, yet the influence of his works have not always been acknowledged. Carl Sandburg s evocations of American urban and rural life, compassion for people, and his love of nature, through his works have made an enormous contribution to the American literary scene. Carl Sandburg was born on January 6, 1878 to illiterate parents of Swedish decent in Galesburg, Illinois. Much of Sandburg s literary works are a result of his life time observations. The seeing eye Mr. Sandburg has it to a superlative degree, and wedded to it, an imaginative utterance which owes nothing whatever to literature or tradition. It is a fascinating and baffling study this of examining how Mr. Sandburg does it....It is, more than anything else, the sharp, surprising rightness of his descriptions which gives Mr. Sandburg his high position in the poetry of today. While Lowell feels his poetry is imaginative and fascinating, along with baffling. If Sandburg were alive to read the analysis of his poetry by the critics, he probably would have writing a poem about it. It would have fascinated him, how two people could have such opposite views. This move was largely due to the hardships experienced on American soil during the Great Depression and its losses in World War I (American Isolationism). However on December 7th, 1941, the isolationist stance held by the United States was shattered when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and war was officially declared on Japan, Germany, and Italy (American Isolationism). This war would go on for another four years, taking with it close to 50 million lives and devastating not only families, but entire nations (By The Numbers). Due to the incredible loss of life, the United States understood that ending the war, especially the ongoing war in the pacific, was of paramount importance. Unfortunately for the Japanese, it would be its country s own sense of pride and nationalism that brought its undoing. Despite being overpowered, without resources, and lacking a functioning navy, the Japanese government refused to surrender to the United States (Powers). Many have speculated that a contributing factor may have been Japan s ancient belief in bushido an old Samurai idea that the supreme sacrifice of life was the purest of accomplishments (Powers). This suggested that the Japanese army was willing to fight until they had exhausted all their resources, all their lives, and left their country in ruin. While he knew that continuing the ... The relatively uncommon HIV 2 type is concentrated in West Africa and is rarely found anywhere else. There are currently over 34 million cases of this disease reported worldwide.3 This disease is very slow to develop and may not cause any significant symptoms before it causes damage, as it is seen a person can have an HIV infection for years before it progresses to AIDS. Usually, people infected with HIV progress to AIDS when their CD4 cell count falls below 200. VIRAL LIFE CYCLE The main steps in the viral life cycle are (i) attachment of the viral gp120 to the CD4 T cell receptor, (ii) binding of the gp120 to CCR5 or CXCR4 co receptors and (iii) fusion of the viral and cellular membranes HIV entry into the cell is mediated by its trimeric envelope (Env) glycoprotein gp120/gp41 complex and it happens in two major steps. [1, 2, 4] First, the surface subunit gp120 binds to the cell receptor (CD4) and a co receptor (CCR5 or CXCR4). Upon receptor binding, the gp41 which is originally sheltered by gp 120, undergoes a dramatic transition from its native state into an extended pre hair pin intermediate. Once And Future King Themes The Once and Future King: Themes for the Future After a good binge read or movie marathon, the audience will feel more prepared for the real world or learn a new tidbit or two, all the while enjoying their experience. However, there are three important themes that just stick out from the rest. In the first theme, Queen Guenever finds that love is complicated, as a result of her own complex love life. One such miracle was when he went to King Pelles castle and saved his daughter, Elaine from the curse that kept her boiling in hot water for many years. He had left Arthur s castle for his second quest, which was the turning point of his life (White 369). He had heard about King Pelles and decided to go and see what all the fuss was about. When he arrived, he was greeted by the people of the village, who told him about fair Elaine and her curse. He then went to rescue her, albeit rather reluctantly, then went to the church to thank God. Lancelot was so preoccupied that [it] was half way through the service before he realized that he had been allowed to do a miracle, just as he had always wanted (White 371). • 15. Brides of Quran and Forced Marriage Essay Practice of marriage is an institution which has existed for centuries. Mostly marriage is considered as one of the best form of relationship as kinship between two individuals. Marriage usually occurs when both parties make their relationship public, official and permanent. The Legal Information Institute in Cornell University Law School defines marriage as a legal union of a couple on the following conditions: 1) both parties should be legally able to marry each other 2) mutual consent 3) a lawful marriage contract (Gangoli et al., 2011: 26) (Marriage). This definition of marriage is ideal for practice but in reality sometimes this is not the case. Sometimes, the issue of consent is questionable because consent can be provided as a ... According to The Friday Times of Pakistan, a large number of feudals in Sindh have married their daughter or sisters to the Quran(Uzma, 2003) (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013:43). This marriage is followed by a ceremony where the girl has to take a bath (Uzma, 2003) (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 42, 43) and usually her head is covered with white dupatta. After the marriage she is isolated from any social contact and she must study and recite the Quran everyday and know it by heart. Additionally, other than reciting Quran, she cannot do anything or live her life according to her wish (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 43). They also have to hang the text around their waists with a cord and cannot approach a boy older than 14 years (Uzma, 2003). There are several justifications given for this practice: 1) when a family cannot find a proper match for their daughter by the father or brother, and woman remains unmarried forever and 2) this is practice to preserve family money and property, which might be lost if the girl gets married to another family or when they have to provide dowry (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 42). So in this way, the woman is not allowed to marry a man and will stay forever in their father s home (Akhtar and Métraux, 2013: 42). If anyone wants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scale of the paintings suggests that the artists must have used ladders and scaffolding. Archaeologists discovered sockets for scaffolding beams in the walls of the cave. (Encarta, 2003). Scaffolding is full of culture and is used by everyone in some way. There s many different styles, but there s usually one uniform way now with steel scaffolding. I really chose this topic for my senior project, because of my interest i have with scaffolding. I began working with scaffolding over the summer as a small job to make money, but looking back at it now I really enjoyed doing it. Working over the summer interested me in not only the basics of building, but the history that is behind it. Over all I really thought that this was going to be very boring and tedious, which I was not a wrong assumption. This project added to everything else i have to do is a wonderful way to learn about responsibility. Ultimately I wanted to just skip over this as best as possible, but no way to dodge it now. As I continue to go through I notice that it s not easy to find reliable sources for my subject. I enjoy scaffolding but, it was a mistake picking this. I have no idea what I m going to do. • 17. The Visual Recognition Of Image Patterns CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1. Background to the Study As a scientific discipline, computer vision is concerned with the extraction of information from images to be employed in a decision making process. The image data can take many forms, such as video sequences, still images, digitized maps, diagrams and sketches. These images may be in colour format, grey scale or in binary format. The common approach is to extract characteristic features from the image either in the spatial domain or in some suitable transform domain. Whether the goal is classification or recognition, a measure of similarity or distance must be formulated and the success rate of the system evaluated. Some of the application areas of computer vision are: 1.1.1. Robotics The visual recognition of image patterns is a fundamental human attribute that uses the eye as a sensor and dedicated parts of the brain as the decision making processor. The visual recognition enables humans to perform a variety of tasks such as target identification, ease of movement, handling tools, communication among others. Advances in sensing and visual perception techniques have enabled some of these attributes to be transferred to robots. For example, identification of colour is a useful asset in a robot in an industrial automation process that involves sorting. [1], [2], [3] 1.1.2. Industrial Inspection Industrial inspection is an area in which pattern recognition is of importance. A pattern recognition system captures images ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the meantime, women took part in the paid workforce in expanding numbers taking after the Industrial Revolution. Feminist ideas spread among the informed female working classes, the women s suffrage movement picked up force and discriminatory laws were cancelled in the last years of the Victorian age. In the Victorian Era, women were thought as only fitting in with the domestic sphere and this stereotype obliged them to limit themselves only to their household and raising children. Alex Owen puts this Victorian ideal of woman in words as The categorisation of so called female virtues found its expression in the sentimental and idealised notion of the spiritually refined angel in the house woman as an angelic creature whose rightful sphere of influence was the home and domesticity (7). By making domesticity seem desirable to the Victorian women they used such tools in order to keep them behind doors. Owen further explains the Victorian feminine roles by pointing out, In analysing many discourses which together constituted the Victorian ideology of femininity, including the domestic literature written for, and often by, women, it becomes clear that perspective understanding was underpinned by certain major constituents. Among the most important of these was the notion of innate female passivity, a negative attribute constructed in opposition to so called masculine will power. Although both were established around the same time period and both originated from Britain, it was evident from the beginning that their motives were different. Most colonies settling in the north were attempting to flee religious persecution, while Southern colonies were founded for economic gain. Although there were some apparent similarities in the beginning, the colonies began to develop different economic systems, religious views, and government. Therefore, the statement that the north and south had more similarities than differences is not valid. The northern territories had a cooler climate as well as poor soil, allowing only the production of staple crops, making it very hard to create an economy based on trade from agricultural production. The extinction of dinosaurs is a mystery in itself that has stumped scientists all over the world for decades, and they still look for new answers every day. Scientists know some background information, but cannot connect the dots to see the bigger picture. There was little interest in the topic until Luis and Walter Alvarez proposed a groundbreaking hypothesis, which today we call the Alvarez Hypothesis . This new idea of the Alvarez s was exciting, and therefore got the media talking about it, which in turn started the search of how the dinosaurs went extinct. Another popular theory of how dinosaurs went extinct is the Volcanism Theory. Scientists have recently found new evidence supporting both sides of this debate. Although many dinosaur extinction theories exist, only the Alvarez Hypothesis is correct. Scientists abase their extinction theories off one of commonly known piece of information: that there was a change in climate around the time of the K T boundary. Both major theories support this idea, and both believe that something blocked out the Sun for many months. This stopped the photosynthesis in plants, the base of the food chain. Without plants, the food chain was majorly affected. A domino effect happened, and one species died out after another. Eventually all species of dinosaurs died out. • 36. Catch 22 Satire Essay Stylistic use of satire in literature has been around for centuries. The use of satire is to ridicule human follies, shortcomings, and vices by exaggerating, distorting, or using irony to showcase the foolishness. Satire in literature is directed at society, the government, or the military to show social criticism, and what needs to be changed. The definition of satire was founded by classical writers such Alexander Pope, John Dryden and Jonathan Swift, in two major forms: gentle (Horatian) and harsh (Juvenalian). Gentle satire is mildly making fun of a subject with wit. This form of satire tends to ask the audience to laugh at themselves as much as the players. (Mitchel ) Harsh satire is condemning and criticizing a subject. This form of satire is more judgmental, asking the audience to respond with indignation to the events it portrays. (Mitchel ) In the twentieth and nineteenth century authors continued to use both forms and combine them to ridicule new issues in society. Catch 22, by Joseph Heller, is an example where the author uses a combination of harsh and gentle satire to ridicule a central issue around society at the time of WWII. • 37. The Adoption Of Electronic Health Records According to a survey from SK A, after an initial migration to health IT solutions, practice owners adoption of electronic health records (EHR) has plateaued with only about a 2.8% increase from January 2014 to January 2015. The survey found that overall adoption by physicians is 62.8%, and that, in general, the larger the practice, the (not surprisingly) higher the adoption rates, with 77.2% of docs at medical groups of 25 or more members using EHRs this is compared to only 54.5% of solo practitioners adopting the technology. Why the Drop in Adoption Rates? Other survey findings clearly illustrate the fact that while EHRs do come with benefits, most are not embraced by physicians because of their lack of functionality and difficulty of use. According to this survey , overall provider satisfaction with EHRs has declined by almost 30% over the past five years. Conducted by the American Medical Association and American EHR Partners, the survey questioned 940 practice owners about their level of satisfaction with their EHR. What was interesting right off the bat about these findings was that only 34% of physicians said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their EHR systems compared to 61% of respondents who were satisfied only five years ago. The survey also found: 42% of physicians described their EHR s ability to improve efficiency as difficult or very difficult. 43% said they were consistently challenged with their EHR s ability to address productivity. ... • 47. Comparing Julius Caesar And Antony Octavian and Antony No contemporaries could have possibly known for sure as to who the victor would be from the conflict that arose between Gaius Julius Ceasar Octavianus, Octavian, and Marcus Antonius, Antony. However, knowing what the ultimate outcome of the struggle was, one may be able to look back into history and offer key reasons as to why Octavian was able to defeat Antony. Ultimately, I believe there was not one key reason for Octavian victory. It was a combination of Octavian s proximity to Rome, his favor with the citizens, and the elimination of his opposition at home that all combined to allow his eventual triumph. Overlooking some smaller details, it is first important to know that after Julius Ceasar s assassination that Octavian was named his heir and returned to Italy to claim this inheritance. From here, he gathered military power and allowed the senate to use him, in order to advance his political position, and he was sent to fight against a rebellious Antony. At this point, Octavian did not try to decimate Antony s forces, instead he proposed and ultimately formed the second triumvirate with Antony and Lepidus as the other heads of the state (Wells 13). From here, the Roman territories were divided into areas of governorship with Antony taking the east, Octavian the west, and Lepidus had the Africa territories (Wells 17).
