1 Executive Summary
Lately with the development of distributed computing, issues services that utilizes web and require
enormous amount of data come to forefront. For Organizations like Facebook and Google the web has
developed has a vast, distributed data repository for which handling by conventional DBMS is not
sufficient. Rather than extending on the hardware capabilities, a more realistic approach has been
accepted. Technically, it is an instance of scaling through dynamic adding servers from the reasons
increasing either information volume in the repository or the number of users of this repository. In this
scenario, the big data problem is frequently examined and in addition explained on a technological
level of web databases.
Dealing with this issue was more and more difficult using relational database technology. Pioneering
work from large companies generated tremendous interest and open source NoSQL database projects
formed to leverage the work of the pioneers. Today, the use of Key/Value database based on NoSQL
technology is increasingly viewed as a practical alternative to relational databases, particularly as
more organizations recognize that working at scale is all the more effectively accomplished running
on clusters of standard and a schema less data model

Analysis Of Mind Game Isn T Just A White Coat By Sandra...
To summarize Mind Games: Sometimes a White coat Isn t Just a White Coat article by Sandra
Blakeslee. The article is about an experiment where people pay more attention to a doctor with a white
coat then a painter with a white coat. It s not just the effect of knowing someone is a doctor. The effect
really occurs when that doctor is wearing the coat and knowing its symbolic meaning. Dr. Galinsky
said, our thought processes is based on physical experiences that set off associated abstract concepts,
and now it appears that those experiences include the cloths we wear. The study does not explain why
as humans we do thing it just proves that we do, do it. The study says if people carry a hot drink others

The Nibelung Hero s Journey
A Hero s Journey consists of particularly long trials and tribulations, internally and externally, that
could shape their character into becoming a true hero or one that for all intents and purposes, fails on
their mission. Campbell has designed his own version of that, with set stages of the path that are
central to the model of the hero s story. The Ring of the Nibelung is a text written by Richard Wagner
consisting of four operas, one of which is titled The Valkyrie. In the Valkyrie, a character named
Sigmund is introduced to us, and his story follows pretty closely with what Joseph Campbell defines
as a Hero s Journey in his book Pathways to Bliss. In it, he argues that every time someone is labeled
as a hero in a story, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sigmund s hero s journey, he eventually is sent the child of Signy and Siggeir as his first trial in
order to build up to his eventual goal of killing Siggeir. He kills two sons through testing them, and
finally stumbles upon a third boy ten years later named Sinfiotli. He immediately hits it off with
Sigmund, he has skin as touch as rocks and Sigmund can see his younger self in this child. Sigmund
and Sinfiotli ultimately attempt to murder Siggeir, but are captured and thrown in pit torture. Once
they sneak out of the pit they kill everyone who works in the castle, sparing Signy only to discover
that Sinfiotli is actually the son of Sigmund and Signy. It is at this exact moment that Sigmund s
journey aligns with how Campbell describes apotheosis, where you realize that you are what you are
seeking, he finds out that he has been seeking someone to aid him in killing Siggeir when he was the
one to do it in the end anyway, with his own flesh and blood son (Campbell 118). Even though the
circumstances were somewhat less than ideal, apotheosis allows Sigmund to discover himself towards
the end of his journey; Sinfiotli is literally Sigmund s offspring, he was the one to help his father kill
Siggeir, and he is what Sigmund was unconsciously seeking. In another compelling example, my
mother realized that what she had spent her time all along doing was searching for herself. In her
marriage she thought she found love but instead found only narcissism and manipulation, driving her
to understand that all she needed to seek in life was herself. She experienced her apotheosis moment
as she broke free and became herself. My mom is what she was seeking, Sigmund is who he was
seeking, their challenging existence led them to the point

The Scientific Revolution And The Enlightenment
Kuda Masunungure Exam 2: Question 2 The Enlightenment was a period characterized by the idea
that people s use of reason could unlock the mysteries of the world around them. Thinkers of the
Enlightenment saw all aspects of the world religion, wealth, and the earth itself as being
understandable through natural laws. The reliance on and application of reason on the different aspects
of the world used by Enlightenment thinkers was directly informed by the Scientific Revolution. In
essence the presentation of and descriptive power of Enlightenment theories and ideas would not have
been possible without the strengthened exploratory and explanatory rigor established in the Scientific
Revolution. In terms of the PISCET categories discussed through the lectures and the text, the most
prevalent threads between the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment is in their intellectual,
economic, and political connections. During the Scientific Revolution, the established ideas came
from Aristotle. Aristotle s conception of the workings of the universe accepted to be a part of Middle
Ages cosmology by professor Jones set the empirical and rational standard that all scientists set their
sights upon. If one s calculations did not fall inline with the Aristotelian standard, it must not have
been correct (Buckowski lecture notes). The revolutionary element came in the form of Ptolemy s
modifications to Aristotle s standards to better fit the phenomena he was observing. It is here

Anne Frank Changes
The holocaust was a horrible time in people s lives and it killed six million people. Even though this
happened to so many people Anne Frank was someone that so many people look up to because of her
diary that she wrote during this time. Anne Frank, her family, and the Van Danns all spent 25 months
in the secret annex. Dussel was someone that came in later so it was very tight for 8 people to be
living under certain circumstances for that long. They hoped to stay hidden until they were liberated
but they were caught and sadly the only one that lived through the concentration camps was Mr.Frank.
Many historical events took place in Anne Frank. Even though most of these things occurred while
they were in hiding, it still changed the characters mood and relationships.
To start Miep had been coming almost everyday to bring them food and get them things they need,
and she had just shown up with very exciting news for the families. Mr. Frank . . . the most wonderful
news! . . . The invasion has begun! (Hacket, 179) The first thing that stood out to me was that by Miep
telling them this news, relationships of the characters change from being mad at each other to being
happy towards each other because they think they are going to be saved. We ve all done things that we
re ashamed of... Didn t you hear what Miep said? The invasion has come! We re going to be liberated!

Victorian Women in the Work Force Essay
Victorian Women in the Work Force The Victorian period is often defined by its antique images of
flowers, doilies, rosy cheek children and intricate fashion. However, these trite images shadow the true
realities of middle class families struggling to succeed in the emerging business world. Traditionally,
the men spent long days in the city working out business affairs, while the women stayed home with
the children preparing meals and planning for social gatherings. Work was often not an option for
women because they were seen as incapable of any duty outside of the home. However, with the onset
of Queen Victoria s reign, the women of England slowly began to challenge their subservient roles,
taking on jobs as teachers, writers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was capable of handling governmental affairs while also showing herself to be obedient to Prince
Albert, her beloved husband, which became an admirable trait among the English wives of this period
(20). Likewise, many historians refer to the Queen as a paradox because she combined her middle
class roots with her aristocratic reign. As one author says, That the queen of England became the
central embodiment of middle class familial values held great significance for the representation and
role of bourgeois women (Langland 64). Queen Victoria s concern for the middle class served as a
basis by which English women were able to go outside of their domestic realm and break some of the
existing stereotypes.
Stereotypes of Victorian Women
The stereotypes of this period classified the ideal Victorian woman as being family oriented and
subservient to their male counterparts. She was supposed to love children and also to avoid hurtful
blunt statements and make her husband the center of her life and be the Light of the Home while her
husband tangled with the world at large (Palmer). Marriage was supposed to be the Victorian woman s
highest aim so that she could fulfill her aspiration of creating a family (Dunhill 23). Within the family,
the wife would provide the meals, care for the children, and prepare for any social gatherings that may

A main element of From Russia With Love is loyalty. Each character in the story is loyal to a cause,

The Cabanatuan Prisoner Of War Rescue Mission
Running Estimate for the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Rescue Mission The prisoners of the
Cabanatuan Prison are in grave danger as the US 6th Army is advancing and the Japanese are in full
retrograde; it is with this in mind that we are planning this raid. The prison camp is behind enemy
lines, approximately 30 miles from Guimba, and currently flooded with the withdrawing Japanese
forces. The camp is being used as a transit point as they retreat to the north and east. Daylight hours
are when you find the largest troop concentrations; the current TTP is for Japanese forces to move
during the night. Additionally, a projected force of about 800 Japanese with tanks and heavy weapons
are templated at Cabu. The Terrain leading up to the Camp has vegetation and easily traversable roads;
we have the support of the local population to help us in the recovery efforts. As the US rangers
approach the camp, the last mile will be treacherous because all vegetation has been cleared and the
forecasted moon and light data is not favorable. Once we start to evacuate the US Prisoners we will be
faced with soldiers who have been on reduced rations for the last few years, medical estimates suggest
that we can expect 7 10% (35/500) of the prisoners to be non ambulatory. The remainder will be
debilitated from malnutrition and disease, making their movement slow at best. Friendly forces will
consist of 120 Army Rangers, two teams from the Alamo Scouts, the Alamo Scouts bring the area

What Are the Most Important Differences Between...
What are the most important differences between Parliamentarism, Presidentialism and
Semi Presidentialism and what political implications follow from these differences?
In this essay, I will be identifying the underlying differences between the political systems of
Parliamentarism, Presidentialism and Semi Presidentialism. This will include identifying the different
types of governments concerning majority and minority rule and the elections that are held in the three
democratic systems above, accountability of the executive and legislator, and finally the separation of
power between the executive and the legislator of a state. Moreover I will be examining the political
implications these all hold for each of the three democratic states ... Show more content on

In the US the executive and the legislator are independent bodies voted for by the electorate. The
President has a fixed term of 4 years which cannot be dissolved by Congress as you were voted in by
the electorate. However in the UK, the executive can be replaced as it was appointed by the legislator
due to this some argue the Parliamentary system in the UK is less accountable than the US
Presidential system, as accountability is taken by the collective decisions of the cabinet in the UK
opposed to the US where the President is held accountable as an individual, so it is easier to criticise
as you are electing an individual not a party as seen in the UK. This in turn makes it much easier in the
US to hold the executive accountable and oust them from office at the end of their 4 year term as they
had won a popular vote obtaining a majority of 50% or more (Harris and Reiley,1998). In a
SemiPresidentialism nation, accountability is a priority which is why two executives are appointed in
form of the President and the Prime Minister. The President must cooperate and compromise with the
legislature as they are held accountable, which is highly advantageous in a divided liberal nation such
as France, as all matters must be taken into account.
The key difference between Presidentialism, Parliamentarism and SemiPresidentialism is the
separation of power between the executive body and the legislator. The executive, legislator and

client s family. Some issues that will be addressed are the changes in role and social position during
this stage. One will also compare living accommodation such as accessibility and the need for health
care. Also one will illustrate the adjustment and transition from work to retirement. What changes

When the other percentage of older adults cannot maintain to keep their homes, they will end up with
relatives most likely their children. Three fourths of Americans end up living in poor quality areas.
Those who live in these deteriorating, crime ridden, decaying neighborhoods are potentially more
capable of being robbed or mugged. Fortunately there are several areas in which older people can go
to where they have assisted living options. These facilities can offer help with maintenance, daily
meals, social centers, and protection.
Health care will be needed more in the older population than any other. The old age is growing
continuously. There are more of the older adults today than babies. Older adults are more likely to
have a long term illness. During the 80 s the government said they were no longer able to pay for
health care. This resulted in eligibility and limits in paying off the payments. If limits continue to be
present, this can result in the poor and older people to face untreated illnesses and have a higher risk
of death. Physicians are mainly trained to watch over the youth meaning the less interest in helping the
older adults. The older population will be neglected and can be mis diagnosed. Those who also have
lack of transportation will also end up with inadequate care.
How is the adjustment and transition from work to retirement? The main goal of society is to maintain
the work flow and keeping a high rate of employment. A factor that was used in

The Six Day War was a war that took place on June 5 10 in 1967. The war resulted in the Israelis
capturing 5 locations. This was thought to be impossible as the chances of them doing so was very
small, almost nothing. The victory for Israel took everyone for surprise, including the Israelis. It
seemed as if though it was a miracle. The war all comes down to the Israelis redirecting the water flow
from the Jordan River to the Negev Desert. The Arabs clearly didn t like it. This resulted in bombings
from Israel to Syria after the the Arabs began threatening and implementing their policy of diverting
the water from Israel. Things began to get heated with Israel and their neighbors. Most of the tense

There Are Many Types Of Conditioning That People Used To
There are many types of conditioning that people used to learn things. The first type of condition that
we talk about in this paper is classical condition. The second type of conditioning is called operant
conditioning. And the last type of conditioning is vicarious conditioning / Observational Learning.
These are the 3 main types of conditioning that we use in are daily life.
Classical Conditioning
Classical conditioning is one of the most basic forms of learning that we use today. You can see it
being used in things like pet training to teaching kids how to do something. The term classical
conditioning means learning to elicit an involuntary, reflex like response to a stimulus other than the
original, natural stimulus that normally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Operant conditioning
Operant condition focus on how an organisms learns a response a voluntary responses and how they
can be guided though positive and negative reinforcement. Thorndike s puzzle box he place a hungry
cat inside a box with food on the outside. The only thing the cat had to do was press the lever and
escape to get the food. Though at first it took a while for the cat to get out but after few trials with
each getting faster. With the time getting fast and faster it was pretty safe so assume the cat figure out
a way to get out of the box was to push the lever. Which lead to the law of effect if an action is
followed by a pleasurable consequence, it will tend to be repeated (Ciccarelli White, 2017 p.188). This
is an example of positive reinforcement the cat escaping from the box there is food to reward when it
is successful. Here are the two kinds of reinforcement there is positive reinforcement. Positive
reinforcement is when you add a reward and negative reinforcement is the removal of a thing. We also
have primary and secondary enforcements that are a part of this as well. An example of would be
when I go to work for Meijer pushing carts I get reward with a paycheck once a week which is a
second dairy reinforcement. Money is a secondary reinforcement because you can use it to get other
goods vs a primary which you can use yourself like food and clothing. Another example of operant
conditioning that is a negative

Pulmonary Symbolism Essay
Pulmonary embolism, synonymous with deep vein thrombosis; are important and is a growing public
health problem. Both contribute to the 300,000 600,000 individuals affected by this each year in the
US alone. This condition does not discriminate against age, gender, or race and occurs across all
boards causing morbidity and mortality. When misdiagnosed, unrecognized, or untreated, PE can
cause death quickly; within just an hour. It s fatal in up to 26% of cases (Andrews, 2010). However,
prompt treatment greatly reduces the risk of death. Taking the necessary preventative measures to

The Role Of Physicians And Osteopathic Physicians
There are two kinds of physicians that practice in the United States; they are allopathic physicians and
osteopathic physicians. They are very similar in the ways that they both can diagnosis and treat
illnesses and provide preventive care to patients. Both physicians may even practice medicine in
similar ways today, since their training is almost identical to one another. Allopathic and osteopathic
doctors can both prescribe medicine, perform surgery and can practice in specialty areas such as
critical care or emergency medicine (Indiana College, 2007). There are many things that cause people
to want to be a physician, such as helping others, job security and the interest of researching.

Unlike osteopathic they view a person as a diseased or injured body or organ and try to fix that. They
believe that whatever illness the person has can be cured or help relieve symptoms by either surgery or
medication. For example when someone has a headache or is constipated, the physician will order a
medication to be administered to relieve their pain. There have been many helpful procedures that are
used now thanks to allopathic physicians and medicine, such as hip replacement, chemotherapy and
insulin for diabetics. These physicians work best in emergency or acute situations which is referred to
as interventional medicine. Allopathic physicians try to stay away from alternative medicine such as
homeopathy and naturopathy. When tested on their attitudes allopathic doctors tested as more
technical oriented which means that they prefer to use scientific thinking for purposes. Osteopathic
medicine, abbreviated D.O., as defined by Webster as a therapeutic system originally based upon the
premise that manipulation of the muscles and bones to promote structural integrity could restore or
preserve health. Osteopathic medicine was founded by A.T. Still, a medical doctor who believed that
the current medical practices seemed to be doing more harm than good to the patients. He developed a
system of care that would promote the body s ability to heal itself. Osteopathic physicians are trained

Whitetail Deer Research Paper
A young deer is walking through the woods. All of the sudden its mother is shot. Many people know
the story of the fawn named Bambi. However, many don t know much about his kind, the whitetail
deer. Many people only think of deer as an animal to hunt and eat its meat, but it s much more. In
order to fully understand the whitetail deer, one must understand its complex anatomy, its interesting
way of mating, and its simple diet.
The whitetail deer, or Odocoileus virginianus, is a mammal in the cervidae family. Because of this,
they are one of the few creatures with antlers. Antlers are projections from the head that are connected
to, and part of, the skull. Antlers vary in size and contrary to popular belief, are based on genetics and
not health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mating rituals begins with a rut. Ruts start with males proving their dominance with a grunt snort
wheeze pattern. Then the males begin to fight each other by attacking each other with their antlers.
They do this to earn the right to every doe in the area. Each doe usually have one fawn in its first
mating season, but will likely have twins in each of the following years. Fawns are born with white
spots on their backs making them easy to see. Does are very protective of their newborn fawns, only
leaving them for short intervals to graze for food. When the mother is absent, the fawn will lay
motionless on the forest floor, camouflaged from predators (American Expedition 2017). After one
month the fawn will start to follow the mother around. One to two months later it will lose the white
spots. Fawns mature at one year be will not be mated until they are 18 months old. In the wild the deer
will grow to be around six feet tall and weigh about 200 pounds. However the largest deer recorded
are found in their native regions of Minnesota and Ontario.
Even though whitetail deer can grow to large sizes they don t even eat meet to do it. Deer are strictly
herbivores that don t even chew. A deer s stomach consists of four chambers. Because of this, they can

By understanding nursing sensitive indicators, the nurses in this case could improve the structure,

issues hip fracture patients are prone to having, such as decrease mobility, increase need for surgical

Now, the quality improvement department will need to determine what processes can be modified to
improve outcomes. For example, if they see an increase in pressure sores and prevalence of restraints.
They could use computerized charting and order entry, along with the evidence based guidelines, to
identify specific groups of patients who are vulnerable to developing pressure ulcers or closely
monitoring use of restraints. With early identification, automatic orders for preventive interventions
can be implemented quickly. With the assistance of the automated consults and orders, the appropriate
equipment, the interdisciplinary task force, continuing education, and monitoring, the hospital system
would be able to reduce unnecessary use of restraints and hospital acquired pressure ulcer prevalence
rate (Cherry amp; Jacob, 2010).
Then, they would need to implement core measures and protocols. Continuously track performance
and outcomes. Lastly, they can disseminate results to throughout the hospital to increase quality
improvement (Cherry amp; Jacob, 2010).
By educating staff on nursing sensitive indicators and the issues that need to be addressed, could
advance the quality of patient care throughout the hospital. In this case, educating hospital staff on
ways to prevent restraint use and pressure sore prevention, the staff could have possible prevented the
use of restraints and the pressure sore. Also, by educating staff on how to use restraints would be

Baby Face Film Analysis
Baby Face, as originally produced, edited, and released in 1933, gave rise to a fierce controversy
regarding its content that perfectly exemplifies the relationship that existed then between studios,
producers, and the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA). In retrospect, the
film seems to capture the struggle between creative effort and censorship during the Golden Age of
Hollywood. The Hays Code was the product of a rapidly changing era; a time when new technology
allowed for provocative ideas to spread as a form of entertainment. What Baby Face did was to
display the contradictions inherent in the motion picture industry and help elucidate the need for
control over production standards. The Production Code Administration emerged in 1934. It was the
organic outgrowth of a backlash to immorality in film perceived since the 1920 s (Gomery Pafort
Overduin, 2011). As an entertainment medium, film was revolutionary: all of the sudden, vivid
snippets of life could reach a mass audience. Not long after motion pictures enthralled the country,
producers began to recognize the opportunity to attract larger audiences and increase profits by
filming stories involving provocative subjects and thus stimulating the people s sense of wonder
(Gomery Pafort Overduin, 2011). A natural outgrowth of this trend was the increasingly transgressive
nature of motion pictures. In an age characterized by both economic and social progress, a backlash

The U.S goal was to overthrow the regime in Cuba by coercing OAS members in 1962 to gain enough
votes to suspend Cuba from the organization, thus politically isolating it. Cuba challenged America by
building alliances and by perusing a policy of supporting liberation movements in Asia and Africa and
insurgencies in Latin America. By supporting liberation movements Cuba would form an alley with
third world countries. In Vietnam where a liberation movement was being led Hochi Minh , Cuba

Ethical practices related to the supervision and treatment of prison populations 2 INTRODUCTION
This paper will define the treatment of prisons within the United States, Central America and Africa, it
will explain how many of these countries human rights and due process are violated within the
correctional system, it will further exam how inmates under the supervision of correctional staff treat
inmates while they are incarcerated by not allowing them the due process that they are required to
have. Finally, this paper will also analyze cruel and unusual punishment these inmates receive while
under the supervision of correctional staff.
Ethical practices related to the supervision and treatment of prison populations 3

Educating Parents and Caregivers on the Prevention of SIDS
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of an infant less than one year of age
after having done a complete postmortem examination and investigation of the scene of death. There
are no causes that have been found that make it clear as to why SIDS is so common. The rate of SIDS
decreased dramatically when the Back to Sleep campaign was started to encourage parents and
caregivers that infants were placed on their back while sleeping (Hockenberry Wilson, 2015, p. 473).
The most common ways that these deaths have occurred are the infant s sleeping environments and
their positioning. Research shows that infants that sleep in the prone position are most at risk ... Show

42). The cause of SIDS is still unknown but autopsies have been reliable in showing consistent
findings pathologically that reveal whether a child has pulmonary edema or intrathoracic hemorrhages
that could possibly confirm a diagnosis. Autopsies should be done in every infant and the results
should be shared with the parents as soon as they are completed (Hockenberry Wilson, 2016, p. 476).
Important critical assessments to make regarding SIDS is identifying risk factors that could potentially
lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and ensuring to educate the caregivers on techniques to
prevent these deaths. Some complications that may arise with SIDS could be a sense of hopelessness
for the family of the infant. The parents may feel guilty and blame themselves for the death of their
child. To appropriately care for this family, important NANDA nursing diagnoses for SIDS would be
the Risk for Complicated Grieving related to Loss of Child secondary to SIDS and the Risk for
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome related to Deficient Knowledge of Prevention Techniques secondary
to Unsafe Sleeping Environment.
Important teachings to assist the family in understanding SIDS is ensuring that they know what the
risk factors are: maternal smoking, maternal alcohol use, co sleeping, prone sleeping, side lying
positions, and soft bedding. Parents must be educated on some protective factors that could help in
decreasing the risk of SIDS

Qualities Of A Good Friend Essay
One of my favorite part of the song Lean On Me by Bill Withers is a Sometimes in our lives we all
have pain we all have sorrow But if we are wise we know that there s always tomorrow. In other
words, no matter how arduous and challenging life can be, another better opportunity will be given the
next day. In life, people should identify the difference between the real friends or fake friends. In
addition, the qualities of a good friends are trustworthiness, have good attitude, and last being
thoughtful. To begin with, first quality of a good friend is someone who is trustworthy. A trustworthy
is someone who are honest, loyal, and caring. An example scenario of a trustworthy was taking

There is multiple method to become a respectful person. One notorious method is the use of kind
phrase to elders such as no mam, no sir, yes sir, yes mam with a polite tone of voice. Second method is
having a positive and clear mindset at all times. These two methods are the main characteristic of
having good attitude. Another example of a good friend is someone who have a moral value. A friend
who care his reputation and afraid to lose it. Moral values are something parents need to educate their
children at home. By lecturing the children, the basic values, it can cause children in young age to
understand and learned about moral values. Thus, an incredible attitude is one relevant characteristic
of good friends. Last, the third quality of a good friend is their thoughtfulness. These types of friends
care for one another by taking time to reminisce birthday, other important events and friend s
situation. One example of thoughtfulness is planning a simple surprise party. Usually thoughtfulness
friends do majority of planning and preparation. They normally look for places to hold the party. They
decide the color skim or sometimes make hand crafts decoration that gives personal touch ups. An in
expansive surprise birthday party planned by friends really means a lot. Another example of a
thoughtful friend is offering a ride whenever the other person s car broke down. Marco and Jonathan

AP Biology Lab Report: How the Amount of Motor Oil Affects Hatching Viability of Brine Shrimp
Eggs
Question
How does the amount of motor oil in the environment of a brine shrimp affect the hatching viability of
brine shrimp eggs?
Hypothesis
If hatching viability is affected by the amount of motor oil in the environment of the brine shrimp
eggs, then when the amount of motor oil is increased the hatching viability will decrease.
Experimental Design
The independent variable was the amount of motor oil in 2% salt solution because it is the variable
that was being tested and purposefully manipulated. The dependent variable was the hatching viability
of the brine shrimp tested (which was calculated by adding the number of brine shrimp swimming at
24 hours to the number of brine shrimp swimming at 48 hours, and then divided by the total number
of eggs initially placed in the petri dish). The control group was a petri dish of brine shrimp in 30 ml
of 2% salt solution with no motor oil. The constants, or variables that need to be controlled, were the
salinity percentage of the salt solution (2%), the amount of salt solution in each petri dish (30 ml), the
total time the brine shrimp were left in the petri dishes (48 hours), and the frequency of when the brine
shrimp were checked (every 24 hours).
Procedure
Materials:
Approximately 100 brine shrimp eggs
Scissors
Pipet
Paintbrush
5 microscope slides
1 stereomicroscope
5 pieces of double sided tape
5 petri dishes

Comparing Harvey s Dream And A Sorrowful Woman
There are multiple aspects of similarities and differences regarding marriage and how it is handled in
both Stephen King s Harvey s Dream, and Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman. While these short
stories are both about marriage and the struggles within them, they also greatly contrast each other.
For example, Harvey s Dream exemplifies how marriage can begin to become boring and undesirable
at a certain point in time. Janet finds that everything Harvey says, acts, or does, seems to pester her.
There is evidence that the dream experienced by Harvey is the most interesting topic brought up in
their marriage within years. For instance, Janet states, Suddenly she doesn t want life to be anything
but thin. Thin is O.K., thin is good, just look at the actresses in the movies if you doubt it (King, 4).
Janet is contempt with her life being thin and depleted of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Sorrowful Woman, the wife experiences a death of her child, for Godwin states, Once upon a
time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin, 39). If the dream Harvey encountered
actually occurred, Janet would lose a child, just like the wife in A Sorrowful Woman. The way one
copes with a loss so extreme can be observed through many different aspects. Some may be able to
confront this challenge easier than others, but in the case of A Sorrowful Woman, she simply cannot
let go of the past and move on, and eventually this caused her to commit suicide. With this being said,
one could make the argument that A Sorrowful Woman could similarly be a sequel to Harvey s Dream,
discussing how if Janet was to lose a child and explaining the way she may react. In the end, Harvey s
Dream may have no impactful meaning at all, for it was just a dream, but there also is the possibility
that it is factual, and in turn causes him to lose a child, just like A Sorrowful

Liking Is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts
We live in a world where the internet and social media plays a big role. There are constantly becoming
less and less physical contact, and fewer face to face relations. This is demonstrated by the fact that we
keep in touch with each other over Facebook, shopping takes place over the internet, we keep up with
our economy whit online banking and meet friends and lovers over online dating sites. In late modern
society, we are always available. But are we really missing out on a lot of important stuff, and is this
necessarily a bad thing? This is also the theme in Jonathan Franzen s essay, Liking is for Cowards. Go

He makes sure that it is interesting and fun for the young generation to read his essay, he is doing this
by the personal stories and fun comparisons, but also by using words and phenomena the young
readers can relate to, for an example he uses words as liking and friending , Liking, in general, is
commercial culture s substitute for loving (p.9, l. 83 85) phenomena s from facebook. On the other
hand Jonathan Franzen also uses some foreign words as carbon foodprint , anesthetized dream by
using these foreign words he makes sure to seem smart , so we get the feeling of a person who knows
what he is talking about, and on the other hand also a fun and interesting person. This is again
something that strengthens his ethos appeal, so it is easier for him to convince and engage the young
readers. If he was writing in a way with no humor, only foreign words, and maybe used a lot of
statistics facts, instead of personal stories, he would not engage the young readers. So by writing in
this very specific way, he knows that the youngster will find his essay fun and interesting. So as you
see Jonathan Franzen uses a lot of different methods to convince and engage the young readers.
Jonathan Franzen s main message is that, the young generation should spend more time in the real
world instead of the world of liking . He wants the young readers to understand

Iroquois Confederacy
IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY
by Loretta Hall
OVERVIEW
The Iroquois Confederacy, an association of six linguistically related tribes in the northeastern
woodlands, was a sophisticated society of some 5,500 people when the first white explorers
encountered it at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The 1990 Census counted 49,038 Iroquois
living in the United States, making them the country s eighth most populous Native American group.
Although Iroquoian tribes own seven reservations in New York state and one in Wisconsin, the
majority of the people live off the reservations. An additional 5,000 Iroquois reside in Canada, where
there are two Iroquoian reservations. The people are not averse to adopting new technology when it is

During that period, the Iroquois began to acquire European trade goods through raids on other Indian
tribes. They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far superior to their implements of stone,
bone, shell, and wood. Woven cloth began to replace the animal skins usually used for clothing
materials.
The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the Iroquois in 1609,
opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy. French body armor was made of
metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with
firearms, while traditional Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden
warclubs.
In response to European influence, the Iroquois gradually changed their military tactics to incorporate
stealth, surprise, and ambush. Their motives for fighting also changed. In the past, they had fought for
prestige or revenge, or to obtain goods or captives; now they fought for economic advantage, seeking
control over bountiful beaver hunting grounds or perhaps a stash of beaver skins to trade for European
goods.
Although it provided the Indians with better tools, European incursion into the territory was disastrous
for the indigenous people. In the 1690s alone, the Iroquois lost between 1,600 and 2,000 people in
fighting with other Indian tribes. In addition, European diseases such as smallpox, measles, influenza,
lung infections,

The Evolution Of Homo Sapiens
The species that you and all other living human beings on this earth belong to is Homo sapiens. Homo
sapiens, believed to have evolved over a very long period in Africa, Asia and Europe. Like other early
humans that were living at this time, they gathered and hunted food, and evolved behaviors that
helped them live day to day with the challenges of surviving in unstable environments. Homo sapiens
different characteristics such as larger brain, different size of canines, and material cultural as in tool
use have all helped them evolve, but in their own unique way. Some traits may be a little somewhat
similar to primates such as birth, sexual relations, family, bone organization. Meanwhile it s mainly
humans whose evolution is growing rapidly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates. (Armstrong,
Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be characterized by the lighter
build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past. Modern humans have very large
brains, which vary in size from population to population and between males and females, but the
average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in contrast to some primates such as
chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275 500 cubic centimeters. Most of this brain size
difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the association cortex, a group of regions that
supports such mental functions as language, self awareness, and problem solving. As a result modern
humans have spread to every continent and vastly expanded their numbers. They have altered the
world in ways that benefit them greatly as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate change and
new environments. Homo sapiens must remain in the care of their parents for much longer than other
living primates. Homo sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until adulthood. In contrast
to the Old World Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4 5 years. This is typically because
their parents conceive children every year. The question then becomes, why would the children of
homo sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It might make more
evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be independent, but it is in those
18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our large brains which presumably
require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and life are usually learned through
parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn how to adapt to our social
environments. Primates do this as well but not to

Examples Of Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Defining who you are is always such an arduous task. I never know what to say and I always draw a
blank when I m put on the spot. I never know what to say because I never really put too much thought
into defining myself. It s usually just something that you don t think about too much because honestly
it s pretty difficult. Luckily there are theories that propose many ideas that help me define myself.
Theories such as the Symbolic Interaction theory, cognitive dissonance theory, expectancy violations
theory, and temperament. These four theories are each very different but they can all be used to help
define who a person is. They propose reasoning and thought behind the ways we behave,
communicate, and feel. What we might think to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cognitive dissonance can formally be defined as feeling of discomfort resulting from inconsistent
attitudes, thoughts and behaviors, ( Communication 90). We will have a feeling of discomfort if new
informations doesn t fit with what we already know and we will take many steps to reduce it (
Communication 90). We do this mainly because we seek psychological consistencies and that feeling
of discomfort can lead us to changing our attitudes and behaviors ( Communication 93). For example,
when we try and keep dissonance from happening we will either ignore the different views that are
presented, change either our views or the other person s views depending on the situation, or trying to
reassure ourselves after making a big decision ( Communication 92). Dissonance also comes in
different forms of impact. We will take into account how severe the situation is before making a final
decision, or the magnitude of the situation ( Communication 94). The magnitude is how much
dissonance is felt ( Communication 94). We take the account of magnitude in by looking at
importance, ratio, and rationale of the situation ( Communication 94 95). Importance is how
significant we see the situation to be (95). The last two parts are ratio, the dissonant cognitions
compared to the consonant cognitions, and rationale which is what we decide the reason behind the
dissonance is ( Communication 95). With the cognitive dissonance theory there are different ways in
which we can perceive information and that help us reduce dissonance ( Communication 96). The four
perception types are selective exposure, selective attention, selective interpretation, and selective
retention ( Communication 96). The first perception is selective exposure which can be defined as
looking at the information the we want to ( Communication 96). The

Hebrew Wisdom Essay
Found in The Old Testament of the Holy Bible is a variety of teaching of Hebrew wisdom. I find
Proverbs and Ecclesiastes to lend much instruction to the subject of diligence and laziness. The
Hebrew teaching is quick to point out that diligence leads to wisdom and laziness is folly. Choices in
life and sinful behavior ends up in disastrous circumstances. In the essence of (The Essence of the Old
Testament) Hebrew wisdom literature teaches us how to make good decisions in life, but also how to
make godly decisions. This essay will explore how the Hebrew wisdom teaches the repercussions of
living wise and diligent verses living lazy and excluding God.
The Bible offers an abundance of teachings that enlighten us to the value of diligence verses the
pitfalls of laziness. All too often we see people who are either looking for an easy contribution or, a
way to better their current circumstances. The goal is to show and help the ones who have a sense of
desire to contribute to society and afford them the opportunity to prosper. Definition of diligence is
careful and continued hard work much like the Ant. Notice, none of them have defined leaders, all of
them live in colonies, have separation of labor, and collect and store up food for those long days. They
can also carry 10 50 times its weight. Laziness is described as a person who is a slothful or indolent.
(Proverbs 6:6 NSV) teaches us Go to the ant, you lazy man! Observe its ways and become wise .

Software Modeling And Analysis Project CSE 681 Software Modelling and Analysis Project #1 KEY/VALUE DATABASE Operational Concept Document (OCD) Version: 1.0 Saurabh Agrawal SUID: 388519331 Date: 09 16 2015 Instructor: Dr. Jim 1 Executive Summary Lately with the development of distributed computing, issues services that utilizes web and require enormous amount of data come to forefront. For Organizations like Facebook and Google the web has developed has a vast, distributed data repository for which handling by conventional DBMS is not sufficient. Rather than extending on the hardware capabilities, a more realistic approach has been accepted. Technically, it is an instance of scaling through dynamic adding servers from the reasons increasing either information volume in the repository or the number of users of this repository. In this scenario, the big data problem is frequently examined and in addition explained on a technological level of web databases. Dealing with this issue was more and more difficult using relational database technology. Pioneering work from large companies generated tremendous interest and open source NoSQL database projects formed to leverage the work of the pioneers. Today, the use of Key/Value database based on NoSQL technology is increasingly viewed as a practical alternative to relational databases, particularly as more organizations recognize that working at scale is all the more effectively accomplished running on clusters of standard and a schema less data model ... • 3. Analysis Of Mind Game Isn T Just A White Coat By Sandra... To summarize Mind Games: Sometimes a White coat Isn t Just a White Coat article by Sandra Blakeslee. The article is about an experiment where people pay more attention to a doctor with a white coat then a painter with a white coat. It s not just the effect of knowing someone is a doctor. The effect really occurs when that doctor is wearing the coat and knowing its symbolic meaning. Dr. Galinsky said, our thought processes is based on physical experiences that set off associated abstract concepts, and now it appears that those experiences include the cloths we wear. The study does not explain why as humans we do thing it just proves that we do, do it. The study says if people carry a hot drink others will believe they have a warmer personality, ... • 4. The Nibelung Hero s Journey A Hero s Journey consists of particularly long trials and tribulations, internally and externally, that could shape their character into becoming a true hero or one that for all intents and purposes, fails on their mission. Campbell has designed his own version of that, with set stages of the path that are central to the model of the hero s story. The Ring of the Nibelung is a text written by Richard Wagner consisting of four operas, one of which is titled The Valkyrie. In the Valkyrie, a character named Sigmund is introduced to us, and his story follows pretty closely with what Joseph Campbell defines as a Hero s Journey in his book Pathways to Bliss. In it, he argues that every time someone is labeled as a hero in a story, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Sigmund s hero s journey, he eventually is sent the child of Signy and Siggeir as his first trial in order to build up to his eventual goal of killing Siggeir. He kills two sons through testing them, and finally stumbles upon a third boy ten years later named Sinfiotli. He immediately hits it off with Sigmund, he has skin as touch as rocks and Sigmund can see his younger self in this child. Sigmund and Sinfiotli ultimately attempt to murder Siggeir, but are captured and thrown in pit torture. Once they sneak out of the pit they kill everyone who works in the castle, sparing Signy only to discover that Sinfiotli is actually the son of Sigmund and Signy. It is at this exact moment that Sigmund s journey aligns with how Campbell describes apotheosis, where you realize that you are what you are seeking, he finds out that he has been seeking someone to aid him in killing Siggeir when he was the one to do it in the end anyway, with his own flesh and blood son (Campbell 118). Even though the circumstances were somewhat less than ideal, apotheosis allows Sigmund to discover himself towards the end of his journey; Sinfiotli is literally Sigmund s offspring, he was the one to help his father kill Siggeir, and he is what Sigmund was unconsciously seeking. In another compelling example, my mother realized that what she had spent her time all along doing was searching for herself. In her marriage she thought she found love but instead found only narcissism and manipulation, driving her to understand that all she needed to seek in life was herself. She experienced her apotheosis moment as she broke free and became herself. My mom is what she was seeking, Sigmund is who he was seeking, their challenging existence led them to the point ... • 5. The Scientific Revolution And The Enlightenment Kuda Masunungure Exam 2: Question 2 The Enlightenment was a period characterized by the idea that people s use of reason could unlock the mysteries of the world around them. Thinkers of the Enlightenment saw all aspects of the world religion, wealth, and the earth itself as being understandable through natural laws. The reliance on and application of reason on the different aspects of the world used by Enlightenment thinkers was directly informed by the Scientific Revolution. In essence the presentation of and descriptive power of Enlightenment theories and ideas would not have been possible without the strengthened exploratory and explanatory rigor established in the Scientific Revolution. In terms of the PISCET categories discussed through the lectures and the text, the most prevalent threads between the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment is in their intellectual, economic, and political connections. During the Scientific Revolution, the established ideas came from Aristotle. Aristotle s conception of the workings of the universe accepted to be a part of Middle Ages cosmology by professor Jones set the empirical and rational standard that all scientists set their sights upon. If one s calculations did not fall inline with the Aristotelian standard, it must not have been correct (Buckowski lecture notes). The revolutionary element came in the form of Ptolemy s modifications to Aristotle s standards to better fit the phenomena he was observing. It is here ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Anne Frank Changes The holocaust was a horrible time in people s lives and it killed six million people. Even though this happened to so many people Anne Frank was someone that so many people look up to because of her diary that she wrote during this time. Anne Frank, her family, and the Van Danns all spent 25 months in the secret annex. Dussel was someone that came in later so it was very tight for 8 people to be living under certain circumstances for that long. They hoped to stay hidden until they were liberated but they were caught and sadly the only one that lived through the concentration camps was Mr.Frank. Many historical events took place in Anne Frank. Even though most of these things occurred while they were in hiding, it still changed the characters mood and relationships. To start Miep had been coming almost everyday to bring them food and get them things they need, and she had just shown up with very exciting news for the families. Mr. Frank . . . the most wonderful news! . . . The invasion has begun! (Hacket, 179) The first thing that stood out to me was that by Miep telling them this news, relationships of the characters change from being mad at each other to being happy towards each other because they think they are going to be saved. We ve all done things that we re ashamed of... Didn t you hear what Miep said? The invasion has come! We re going to be liberated! This is a time to celebrate! • 8. Victorian Women in the Work Force Essay Victorian Women in the Work Force The Victorian period is often defined by its antique images of flowers, doilies, rosy cheek children and intricate fashion. However, these trite images shadow the true realities of middle class families struggling to succeed in the emerging business world. Traditionally, the men spent long days in the city working out business affairs, while the women stayed home with the children preparing meals and planning for social gatherings. Work was often not an option for women because they were seen as incapable of any duty outside of the home. However, with the onset of Queen Victoria s reign, the women of England slowly began to challenge their subservient roles, taking on jobs as teachers, writers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was capable of handling governmental affairs while also showing herself to be obedient to Prince Albert, her beloved husband, which became an admirable trait among the English wives of this period (20). Likewise, many historians refer to the Queen as a paradox because she combined her middle class roots with her aristocratic reign. As one author says, That the queen of England became the central embodiment of middle class familial values held great significance for the representation and role of bourgeois women (Langland 64). Queen Victoria s concern for the middle class served as a basis by which English women were able to go outside of their domestic realm and break some of the existing stereotypes. Stereotypes of Victorian Women The stereotypes of this period classified the ideal Victorian woman as being family oriented and subservient to their male counterparts. She was supposed to love children and also to avoid hurtful blunt statements and make her husband the center of her life and be the Light of the Home while her husband tangled with the world at large (Palmer). Marriage was supposed to be the Victorian woman s highest aim so that she could fulfill her aspiration of creating a family (Dunhill 23). The Cabanatuan Prisoner Of War Rescue Mission Running Estimate for the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Rescue Mission The prisoners of the Cabanatuan Prison are in grave danger as the US 6th Army is advancing and the Japanese are in full retrograde; it is with this in mind that we are planning this raid. The prison camp is behind enemy lines, approximately 30 miles from Guimba, and currently flooded with the withdrawing Japanese forces. What are the most important differences between Parliamentarism, Presidentialism and Semi Presidentialism and what political implications follow from these differences? In this essay, I will be identifying the underlying differences between the political systems of Parliamentarism, Presidentialism and Semi Presidentialism. This will include identifying the different types of governments concerning majority and minority rule and the elections that are held in the three democratic systems above, accountability of the executive and legislator, and finally the separation of power between the executive and the legislator of a state. Moreover I will be examining the political implications these all hold for each of the three democratic states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the US the executive and the legislator are independent bodies voted for by the electorate. The President has a fixed term of 4 years which cannot be dissolved by Congress as you were voted in by the electorate. However in the UK, the executive can be replaced as it was appointed by the legislator due to this some argue the Parliamentary system in the UK is less accountable than the US Presidential system, as accountability is taken by the collective decisions of the cabinet in the UK opposed to the US where the President is held accountable as an individual, so it is easier to criticise as you are electing an individual not a party as seen in the UK. This in turn makes it much easier in the US to hold the executive accountable and oust them from office at the end of their 4 year term as they had won a popular vote obtaining a majority of 50% or more (Harris and Reiley,1998). In a SemiPresidentialism nation, accountability is a priority which is why two executives are appointed in form of the President and the Prime Minister. The President must cooperate and compromise with the legislature as they are held accountable, which is highly advantageous in a divided liberal nation such as France, as all matters must be taken into account. The key difference between Presidentialism, Parliamentarism and SemiPresidentialism is the separation of power between the executive body and the legislator. The executive, legislator and ... Baby Face Film Analysis Baby Face, as originally produced, edited, and released in 1933, gave rise to a fierce controversy regarding its content that perfectly exemplifies the relationship that existed then between studios, producers, and the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA). In retrospect, the film seems to capture the struggle between creative effort and censorship during the Golden Age of Hollywood. The Hays Code was the product of a rapidly changing era; a time when new technology allowed for provocative ideas to spread as a form of entertainment. What Baby Face did was to display the contradictions inherent in the motion picture industry and help elucidate the need for control over production standards. The Production Code Administration emerged in 1934. It was the organic outgrowth of a backlash to immorality in film perceived since the 1920 s (Gomery Pafort Overduin, 2011). As an entertainment medium, film was revolutionary: all of the sudden, vivid snippets of life could reach a mass audience. Not long after motion pictures enthralled the country, producers began to recognize the opportunity to attract larger audiences and increase profits by filming stories involving provocative subjects and thus stimulating the people s sense of wonder (Gomery Pafort Overduin, 2011). For instance, Janet states, Suddenly she doesn t want life to be anything but thin. Thin is O.K., thin is good, just look at the actresses in the movies if you doubt it (King, 4). Janet is contempt with her life being thin and depleted of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In A Sorrowful Woman, the wife experiences a death of her child, for Godwin states, Once upon a time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin, 39). If the dream Harvey encountered actually occurred, Janet would lose a child, just like the wife in A Sorrowful Woman. The way one copes with a loss so extreme can be observed through many different aspects. Some may be able to confront this challenge easier than others, but in the case of A Sorrowful Woman, she simply cannot let go of the past and move on, and eventually this caused her to commit suicide. With this being said, one could make the argument that A Sorrowful Woman could similarly be a sequel to Harvey s Dream, discussing how if Janet was to lose a child and explaining the way she may react. In the end, Harvey s Dream may have no impactful meaning at all, for it was just a dream, but there also is the possibility that it is factual, and in turn causes him to lose a child, just like A Sorrowful ... There are constantly becoming less and less physical contact, and fewer face to face relations. This is demonstrated by the fact that we keep in touch with each other over Facebook, shopping takes place over the internet, we keep up with our economy whit online banking and meet friends and lovers over online dating sites. In late modern society, we are always available. But are we really missing out on a lot of important stuff, and is this necessarily a bad thing? This is also the theme in Jonathan Franzen s essay, Liking is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts from 2011. The focus in this essay will be on how Jonathan Franzen ... This is again something that strengthens his ethos appeal, so it is easier for him to convince and engage the young readers. If he was writing in a way with no humor, only foreign words, and maybe used a lot of statistics facts, instead of personal stories, he would not engage the young readers. So by writing in this very specific way, he knows that the youngster will find his essay fun and interesting. So as you see Jonathan Franzen uses a lot of different methods to convince and engage the young readers. • 33. Iroquois Confederacy IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY by Loretta Hall OVERVIEW The Iroquois Confederacy, an association of six linguistically related tribes in the northeastern woodlands, was a sophisticated society of some 5,500 people when the first white explorers encountered it at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The 1990 Census counted 49,038 Iroquois living in the United States, making them the country s eighth most populous Native American group. Although Iroquoian tribes own seven reservations in New York state and one in Wisconsin, the majority of the people live off the reservations. An additional 5,000 Iroquois reside in Canada, where there are two Iroquoian reservations. The people are not averse to adopting new technology when it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During that period, the Iroquois began to acquire European trade goods through raids on other Indian tribes. They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far superior to their implements of stone, bone, shell, and wood. Woven cloth began to replace the animal skins usually used for clothing materials. The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the Iroquois in 1609, opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy. French body armor was made of metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with firearms, while traditional Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden warclubs. In response to European influence, the Iroquois gradually changed their military tactics to incorporate stealth, surprise, and ambush. Their motives for fighting also changed. In the past, they had fought for prestige or revenge, or to obtain goods or captives; now they fought for economic advantage, seeking control over bountiful beaver hunting grounds or perhaps a stash of beaver skins to trade for European goods. Although it provided the Indians with better tools, European incursion into the territory was disastrous for the indigenous people. In the 1690s alone, the Iroquois lost between 1,600 and 2,000 people in fighting with other Indian tribes. In addition, European diseases such as smallpox, measles, influenza, lung infections, ... • 35. The Evolution Of Homo Sapiens The species that you and all other living human beings on this earth belong to is Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens, believed to have evolved over a very long period in Africa, Asia and Europe. Like other early humans that were living at this time, they gathered and hunted food, and evolved behaviors that helped them live day to day with the challenges of surviving in unstable environments. Homo sapiens different characteristics such as larger brain, different size of canines, and material cultural as in tool use have all helped them evolve, but in their own unique way. Some traits may be a little somewhat similar to primates such as birth, sexual relations, family, bone organization. Meanwhile it s mainly humans whose evolution is growing rapidly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates. (Armstrong, Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be characterized by the lighter build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past. Modern humans have very large brains, which vary in size from population to population and between males and females, but the average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in contrast to some primates such as chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275 500 cubic centimeters. Most of this brain size difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the association cortex, a group of regions that supports such mental functions as language, self awareness, and problem solving. As a result modern humans have spread to every continent and vastly expanded their numbers. They have altered the world in ways that benefit them greatly as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate change and new environments. Homo sapiens must remain in the care of their parents for much longer than other living primates. Homo sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until adulthood. In contrast to the Old World Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4 5 years. This is typically because their parents conceive children every year. The question then becomes, why would the children of homo sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It might make more evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be independent, but it is in those 18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our large brains which presumably require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and life are usually learned through parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn how to adapt to our social environments. Primates do this as well but not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Examples Of Cognitive Dissonance Theory Defining who you are is always such an arduous task. I never know what to say and I always draw a blank when I m put on the spot. I never know what to say because I never really put too much thought into defining myself. It s usually just something that you don t think about too much because honestly it s pretty difficult. Luckily there are theories that propose many ideas that help me define myself. Theories such as the Symbolic Interaction theory, cognitive dissonance theory, expectancy violations theory, and temperament. These four theories are each very different but they can all be used to help define who a person is. They propose reasoning and thought behind the ways we behave, communicate, and feel. What we might think to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cognitive dissonance can formally be defined as feeling of discomfort resulting from inconsistent attitudes, thoughts and behaviors, ( Communication 90). We will have a feeling of discomfort if new informations doesn t fit with what we already know and we will take many steps to reduce it ( Communication 90). We do this mainly because we seek psychological consistencies and that feeling of discomfort can lead us to changing our attitudes and behaviors ( Communication 93). For example, when we try and keep dissonance from happening we will either ignore the different views that are presented, change either our views or the other person s views depending on the situation, or trying to reassure ourselves after making a big decision ( Communication 92). Dissonance also comes in different forms of impact. We will take into account how severe the situation is before making a final decision, or the magnitude of the situation ( Communication 94). The magnitude is how much dissonance is felt ( Communication 94). We take the account of magnitude in by looking at importance, ratio, and rationale of the situation ( Communication 94 95). Importance is how significant we see the situation to be (95). The last two parts are ratio, the dissonant cognitions compared to the consonant cognitions, and rationale which is what we decide the reason behind the dissonance is ( Communication 95). With the cognitive dissonance theory there are different ways in which we can perceive information and that help us reduce dissonance ( Communication 96). The four perception types are selective exposure, selective attention, selective interpretation, and selective retention ( Communication 96). The first perception is selective exposure which can be defined as looking at the information the we want to ( Communication 96). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Hebrew Wisdom Essay Found in The Old Testament of the Holy Bible is a variety of teaching of Hebrew wisdom. I find Proverbs and Ecclesiastes to lend much instruction to the subject of diligence and laziness. The Hebrew teaching is quick to point out that diligence leads to wisdom and laziness is folly. Choices in life and sinful behavior ends up in disastrous circumstances. In the essence of (The Essence of the Old Testament) Hebrew wisdom literature teaches us how to make good decisions in life, but also how to make godly decisions. This essay will explore how the Hebrew wisdom teaches the repercussions of living wise and diligent verses living lazy and excluding God. The Bible offers an abundance of teachings that enlighten us to the value of diligence verses the pitfalls of laziness. All too often we see people who are either looking for an easy contribution or, a way to better their current circumstances. The goal is to show and help the ones who have a sense of desire to contribute to society and afford them the opportunity to prosper. Definition of diligence is careful and continued hard work much like the Ant. Notice, none of them have defined leaders, all of them live in colonies, have separation of labor, and collect and store up food for those long days. They can also carry 10 50 times its weight. Laziness is described as a person who is a slothful or indolent. (Proverbs 6:6 NSV) teaches us Go to the ant, you lazy man! Observe its ways and become wise . Wisdom is imparted to us ...
