Antitrust Practices and Market Power
Antitrust Practices and Market Power
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to look into a case of antitrust behavior being investigated
involving Johnson and Johnson and Novartis AG, and to analyze and discuss the various antitrust
practices that the organizations involved are accused of utilizing. Its purpose is also to discuss how the
practices being deployed in this scenario can help any of the organizations to secure market power,
which is defined by the ability of a firm to profitably raise the market price of a good or service over
marginal cost (Market Power). Finally, it will also discuss the impact that an oligopoly in this case has
on society, and will determine whether such scenarios are helpful or harmful to ... Show more content

The article also quoted a representative of the European Union (EU) as stating that the competition
arm of the EC would investigate whether contractual arrangements between the companies may have
had the object or effect of hindering the entry on to the market of generic versions of Fentanyl in the
Netherlands (Whalen, 2011).
Effects of Antitrust Behavior by Johnson Johnson and Novartis AG
Restricting market access to a generic drug provider by way of a contractual agreement or deal results
in financial implications for all entities involved in the deal. The oligopoly holding company would
incur large expenses as a result of making a payout to the generic drug maker for delaying release of
their product. The generic drug maker would certainly benefit from receiving the payout, however at
the expense of losing any market share gained up to that point. From the point of view of the
consumer, no longer having access to a specific drug that was effective at treating a particular
condition could result in harm or hindered treatment. It is important to note that not all alternatives of
the same drug will always have the same effect. If upon completion of investigation both J J and
Novartis are found guilty of antitrust behavior, both entities and perhaps key decision making figures
could be subject to hefty fines and even incarceration, which are typical sentences for

Speech On Secularism
It cannot be denied that in a multicultural and a multifarious religious state, secularism cannot be
given any precise definition. It is a tool in the hands of the State to use it judiciously for the promotion
of inter communal peace and harmony, and to ensure, depending on the peculiarities of each case, that
all the communities receive equal treatment.
India waited another twenty seven years to enshrine secularism as one of the objectives of the nation.
On 1 September 1976, through the 42nd Amendment Act, passed during an internal emergency, the
words secular and socialist were formally added to the preamble of the Constitution. Then proposed
constitutional changes can be considered under the following heads: (i) Amendability of the

R. Gokhale, made a lengthy speech on its far reachingconsequences. Yet about secularism and its
introduction in the preamble of the Constitution, this was all he had to say:
(T)he objectives which we had always in view, namely, socialism and secularism, which we have tried
to implement, will be more and more implemented and will be more accurately and correctly reflected
in a basic part of our Constitution, namely, the Preamble. Let anyone say that socialism or secularism
is incapable of definition (sic).
Well, in order to accept that argument of the Law Minister , one may say that democracy in that sense
is also incapable of definition because, it is understood in different ways in different countries. But,
there is consensus on the way we practice democracy. In the same way, the meanings of the words
socialism and secularism are well understood and embedded in the Constitution. Thus, all the
argument seems futile but the main objective of the amendment to the Preamble was a very important
and fundamental feature of the Amendment

Accounting Analysis On Accounting Standards
Accounting regulation is a complete set of theories that identified the economic, social and political
factors that are related with the development of accounting principles and standards and to serve the
best interest of societies. In 1930 and 1972 GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and
SSAP2 were introduced to reduce the accounting scandal and control and regulate the accounting.
Later in the year, FASB (Federal Accounting Standard Board) introduced conceptual framework to
provide better understanding from rules, theories and principles in accounting. However, regulation in
accounting is never neutral and different firm chooses different accounting rules and systems where it

Furthermore, this statement stat there is no market value in accounting where everything is based on
management s opinion. Moreover, using the related articles, how managers judge and manipulate the
financial statement will be elaborated in the following. This paper will critically evaluate how
accountant creates the truth and how accounting present and represent the situation in limited way and
manipulation will be supported by using statement and examples. Accounting represents reality and
act for a construction of social reality. It can be said that the economic reality is subjective
(Hines1991. P.316). Morgan also supports that accountants see themselves as involved in an objective
representing reality but in fact they construct the reality. For Example, Morgan (1988, P.477) stat the
artist painting of picture which represent the reality but in limited aspect of situation, Hines also
clearly sees that accounting practices involves bias and errors that does not show exact amount and
exact valuation of transaction. The part of financial accounting is to provide unbiased, impartial and
stable information to the public. In addition, Hine suggests that it is clear that accounting rather than
simply constructing the reality can also have real effect on the economy. The result of change in
accounting rules and standards

Comparing The Soul Selects Her Own Society And The Dresser
In the poems The Soul Selects Her Own Society, by Emily Dickinson, and The Dresser, by Walt
Whitman, one can see two drastically different ways of how the speaker is represented in poetry.
While Whitman s poem focuses on his volunteer work in the American Civil War, Dickinson s piece is
a much more simple and vague poem about choosing one s friends. Although both of these poems
focus on a person interacting with complete strangers, Whitman s speaker is transparent and central to
the poem, while Dickinson s speaker is essentially unknown to the reader and somewhat
inconsequential. In The Dresser, the speaker is the main focus of the poem, which results in the
speaker being transparent to the reader. In the poem, the speaker appears multiple times in each stanza,
and its title refers to the speaker. The poem even starts by introducing the speaker: An old man
bending, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickinson s poem talks about how people don t choose their friends knowingly, but rather their souls
choose their friends unconsciously, not being influenced by material desires. Whereas the speaker in
The Dresser is found multiple times in each stanza, the speaker in Dickinson s poem is only included
once: I ve known her from an ample nation Choose One (The Soul Selects Her Own Society, Emily
Dickinson). In representing the speaker in her poetry, Dickinson offers no introduction to the speaker
whatsoever; the speaker is a nameless character, completely unknown to the reader. Additionally, the
line in which the speaker appears barely contributes to the poem s meaning, only adding a simple
observation about the subject of the poem. Dickinson s way of representing the speaker in this way is
completely opposite to Whitman s method, whose speaker is transparent to the reader and essential to

Sex Drugs And Roll Essay
Sex, drugs and rock and roll. These were the values of the young generation of the mid 1960 s. This
generation was pushing the limits of sexual, social, and political inhibitions and behind the force of
their hippie love was the engine of psychedelic rock and roll music. This genre of rock music is
inspired by the counterculture scene of the 1950 s and 60 s and attempts to capture the mind altering
feelings and emotions attached to psychedelic drugs. The first group to advertise themselves as
psychedelic rock was the 13th Floor Elevators from Texas, at the end of 1965. However, the
partnership of drugs and music goes back much further than that. The Beat Generation writers in the
second half of the 1950 s, such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, used and
wrote about drugs like cannabis and Benzidrine, which popularized and raised more awareness of drug
use. The culture of drug use had long pervaded jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

by Count Five who were a garage band in San Jose, California. And one of the most famous
psychedelic era bands, The Doors, arose out of Los Angeles. Many other cities outside of California
also contributed to the progression of psychedelic music, such as New York City, Detroit, Chicago,
and even Austin, Texas. Psychedelic music was also becoming more prominent in the UK around
1966. Bands like Pink Floyd, Traffic, Soft Machine, Cream, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience (lead
by an American, but initially produced and managed in Britain) were all incorporating more drug
references and psychedelic elements. For example, The Rolling Stones incorporated many psychedelic
hints into their hit singles 19th Nervous Breakdown and Paint It, Black , which made use of drones

Media s Role in the Globalization Process
Essay: The role of media in globalization process
If we talk about the role of media in globalization process we should firstly say that what the media is.
The media is media technologies that are intended to reach a large audience by mass communication.
Today the media play a key role in enhancing globalization. And the media also play important role in
facilitating culture exchange flows of information between countries. The media spreads through
international news broadcasts, new technologies, television programming, film and music. There are a
lot of broadcasts of media. Foe example: We can say about internet, TV, radio, newspapers, books,
billboards and etc. The media connects the world to a network of information easily accessible for all
of us. In this discussion arises a question: Which role has media in globalization process? I think the
role of media in globalization process is very important. And my point of view is that the media is a
part of the globalization process, it is like pen of the globalization process, because media shares
everything that the globalization process dictates. The important role in globalization process has
Internet, which connects all the countries around the world. Internet is called world wide web . So if
we say about the globalization process we should remind that the developed countries globalize
enough. However, there are some countries which do not globalize enough. For example, states of 3rd
world, hungry states and others.

I Am Not A Patriot Analysis
Why I Am Not a Patriot
(Terms and Conditions May Apply)
Standard dictionaries define patriotism as a love for or devotion to one s country. While this offers a
succinct introduction to the notion of patriotism, a comprehensive account of the subject extends well
beyond the scope of any singular definition. In his defense of Modern Patriotism, Stephen Nathanson
addresses the hesitation that people face when forced to adopt or reject the patriot label. Indeed, the
modern conception of a patriot carries implications of blind allegiance and excessive nationalism.
Alternatively, to say that one is not a patriot suggests that one lacks the loyalty appropriate to citizens.
I open this discussion with the inner dialogue I faced when asked ... Show more content on

While few advocates of patriotism would argue against the value of adopting patriotic beliefs, the
touchstone of patriotism involves a readiness to act for your country. Kateb interprets this as a
readiness to die and to kill, for one s country. However, his claims can be easily countered; even if full
fledged patriotism does involve a willingness to die for one s country it is not defined by it. Instead a
true patriot promises to uphold and advance a set of principles, even when his country does not. The
U.S. supreme court notes that an informed public is the most potent of all restraints upon
misgovernment. After all, patriotism, however social in nature, is a political

Introduction The exposed roadcut east of the Doc Long Picnic area, about 9 miles north of the town of
Cedar Crest on the east side of the Sandia Mountains, provided an exceptional site to study weathering
processes. The exposed Precambrian Sandia Granite offered a place to collect data and test the
hypothesis that biotite content, grainsize, and associated inclusions have influenced the amount of
weathering that has occurred. The granite underlies the Great Unconformity and the Madera
Formation, which is a carbonate succession with interbedded sandstones, Pennsylvanian in age. The
granitic outcrop composed of the dominant minerals quartz, potassium feldspar (some plagioclase),
and biotite (field book) displayed different degrees of weathering. Different weathering features in the
exposure such as grussification, jointing, and corestones suggested that grain size and biotite content
were not the only influences on weathering processes taking place.
Methods
Data collection for assessing our hypothesis consisted of making several observations along the
exposed granite. The main observations noted included mineral composition, weathering rank, mean
grain size, percent biotite, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that the adoption of an MRP system at Taneja s Saras aircraft has two implications on the supply

Does the Canadian Charter Effectively Protect our Human...
Apart from the other laws in Canada s constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is
an important law that affects every Canadian s rights and freedoms. It was created in 1981 by former
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to provide legal protection for the most important rights and freedoms.
These rights include fundamental freedoms, democratic rights, mobility rights, and legal rights. Most
but not all articles included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are protected in the
constitution. However, if a Canadian feels that their rights are violated, they can challenge laws and
unfair actions using the justice system. In my opinion, I believe the Canadian Charter of Human
Rights somewhat protects Canadians rights and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prove that the Charter protects some rights but not all, a court case that involved Dr Henry
Morgentaler and the Supreme Court of Canada was successful after trials. Before this case, women
were only allowed to have an abortion after proper certification of approval from a hospital s
Therapeutic Abortion Committee. Three doctors including Morgentaler set up an abortion clinic that
allowed women to have an abortion without a certification of approval. He was later charged with
illegal abortion under section 251 of the Criminal Code. Morgentaler argued that women had full right
on deciding whether or not they wanted an abortion. This law was struck down as unconstitutional as
it violated a woman s right according to section 7 on the Charter.
Another example to support my statement involves the case R. V. Big M Drug Mart. Before this case,
the Lord s Day Act prevented people from opening shops on Sundays because that day was for
Christian people to go to church and spend time with their family. Big M Drug Mart was charged in
Calgary for unlawfully opening their store on a Sunday. They disagreed to the Lord s Day Act because
not every Canadian citizen had to have a religion. This case was later released and the law was struck
down due to violation in section 2 in the Canadian Charter, which protected fundamental rights.

Jimmy Santiago Baca s Speech
Meaningful, powerful, thought provoking are only just a few words that can be used to describe
Jimmy Santiago Baca s writing. Baca s book titled, Spring Poems Along the Rio Grande is a collection
of short poems, which take readers on a journey through his spiritual union and connection with
nature, primarily a river. Through the use of his poems, Baca expresses his hardship and struggles
growing up in New Mexico while connecting his need to find spiritually in nature and all it has to

Through personification, metaphors and symbolisms he s able to express himself eloquently. The
following lines from his short poem, I Have No Answers, symbolizes his connection with nature and
Christ. When people kneel reverently in church pews, when a million hands are folding in prayers to
the Lord...I pray to the halo lust of leaves, Christ...and everywhere I look, I see the resurrection now
He is this river water... (pg 61). Baca is trying to symbolize and connect the idea that Christ is
everywhere for him, he is not just in a church, he is also in nature, in the river, in the leaves. The
essence of Christ is all around and because he s found a spiritual connection with nature he s able to
experience this prosperity. In his short poem titled, Spring Arrives, Baca is trying to symbolize the
idea that if Christ is flowing through the river then he is ready to allow Christ to enter his soul and
receive forgiveness for his mistakes. Creator in the form of a river flowing to the Gulf...breathe in me,
fill my lungs, replenish my sight... (pg 9). Throughout all of Baca s poems, the idea of accepting
nature as a form of guidance is present and it s a strong theme. Nature, is his savior and accepting it
has allowed him to better himself and find a way to block out all of his bad

Personal Statement On Health Management
Follow your passion; it will lead you to your purpose, Oprah Winfrey. My passion leading me to a
degree in healthcare management has been the love I have for my son. Becoming a single mother,
shortly before my son turned two years old, was life altering. Moving back in with my family,
realizing I had no income, and no longer the team effort from his father, was an indescribable sense of
failure as a parent. Obtaining a degree is my way to change that, and guarantee a future in which I will

A Discussion Of Socratic Irony
As we can see, Kierkegaard traces a parallel between Socrates ironic practice and a picture.
Furthermore, the effect of his rejoinders is likened to that of an image suddenly popping up while we
stare at this picture. In order to get at Kierkegaard s point, we have to consider that this passage is
contained inside a discussion of Xenophon s portrait of Socrates. In fact, the whole passage is meant
those aspects of Socratic irony which Xenophon missed. In this regard, Kierkegaard writes that what
he dislikes in Xenophon s treatment of Socrates is his failure to portray the two essential elements of
Socratic irony. The first one is situation , the second one are his rejoinders . A bit below, Kierkegaard
adds that [...] Socratic questioning is clearly [...] analogous to the negative in Hegel, except that the
negative, according to Hegel is a necessary element in thought itself, is a determinant ad intra
[inwardly]; in Plato [and therefore in Socrates] , the negative is made graphical and placed outside the
object in the inquiring individual . This two ways of conceiving the negative give way to two modes
of leading philosophical inquiry. In the first case, [...] one can ask with the intention of receiving an
answer containing the desired fullness, and hence the more one asks, the deeper and more significant
becomes the answer; or [in the second case,] one can ask without any interest in the answer except to
suck out the apparent content by means of the question and thereby

Essay about Antony and Cleopatra and The Aeneid
There are two reasons why The Aeneid is associated with the Shakespearean play Antony and
Cleopatra. First, The Aeneid was written by a Roman named Virgil who, among many other reasons,
wrote it as a tribute for Augustus Caesar, the leader of the Roman Empire. Augustus Caesar was
formally named Octavian and is a character in Shakespeare s play. Secondly, both The Aeneid and
Antony and Cleopatra share a common theme of a patriotic, heroic man having to choose between
duty to his country and the passionate love of a beautiful, foreign and strong queen. In The Aeneid, the
lovers are Aeneas and Dido and Antony and Cleopatra are the lovers in Shakespeare s play.

The first reason why The Aeneid is associated with Antony and Cleopatra is because a character in
Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian, later known as Augustus, is the leader of the Roman Empire during
the time when Virgil wrote The Aeneid and for whom it was written. Historically, before Augustus
became emperor, internal strife plagued the Roman government. During Virgil s youth, the First
Triumvirate which included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus governed the Roman Empire. Crassus
was killed around 53 B.C.E., and Caesar initiated civil war against Pompey. After defeating Pompey,
Caesar reigned alone until the Ides of March in 44 B.C., when Brutus and Cassius, two senators,
assassinated him. Civil war erupted between the assassins and the Second Triumvirate which included
Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. By 36 B.C.E., only Octavian and Antony remained, and they began
warring against each other. At the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C., Octavian defeated Antony and his ally
Cleopatra of Egypt, finally consolidating power in himself alone (Sparknotes). Shakespeare s play
follows the events of the Second Triumvirate and ends when Octavian defeats Antony and becomes
the sole ruler. (Although Shakespeare uses historical names and events, the minute details and specific
conversations between the characters in the play are fictitious.) Four years after the events included in
Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian assumed the title Augustus. Virgil

Analysis Of The Current Energy Productions And...
Response paper # 4
GEOG 473
SPRING 2016
Chad (Jong H) Lee
Historically, most of the current energy productions and distribution systems are centrally controlled
regardless whether it is operated by government or private sectors. Not to mention most of the current
government policies on those energy sectors are highly tailored of the centralized structure. Part of the
reasons I can think of that is because the framework of the current energy model is largely focused on
a big scale energy system. Although this is not necessarily mean bad, but there are also some
disadvantages when we only focus on big scale energy systems. A couple of good examples are
hydroelectric and nuclear power. While these two sources of energy produce energy in completely
different ways, they are traditionally massive in its scale. Hydroelectric power is the oldest energy
source. From a small water wheel to a massive dam, humans have been used many of them for a long

Dangerous Liaisons By Pierre Ambroise Laclos
It is true that in the old times women did not have equal rights as men. Men had more social and
political freedom comparing to women, and the system was organized on men. It took a really long
time for women to gain at least some equality. In the book Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Ambroise
Laclos there are many examples of women having much less rights comparing to men in the 18th
century. Back then, women simply couldn t do what men could simply because they were women and
they weren t considered as powerful as men were. Women had to do more things in order for them to
do the same things as men. For example, if women wanted to have an affair it had to be kept secret
and no one was supposed to find out about it, because if someone did find ... Show more content on

So the author can also hide Cecile s true feeling because she doesn t want everyone to know that she
was raped. This would make her life in the future miserable, because none of the men would want to
marry her, since back then men wanted to have pure wives. Another part of this argument is that
Valmont said that since he had the key to Cecile s room, people would believe him rather then her.
Cecile states that in the letter to Madame de Merteuil: ...he was careful to tell me that, if anyone came,
he would know how to put all the blame on me; and, indeed, it was very easy, because of the key.
(letter 97, page 148). That could be true the people would believe Valmont rather than Cecile because
of the key, but Cecile could have also brought up that she gave him the key because she wanted him to
bring the letters from Danceny, since Cecile s mother already knew that Cecile was writing to
Danceny before. This could have saved her from the rape from Valmont. But because she didn t not do
that, I do not believe that the scene with Valmont seduction of Cecile, could be considered as rape.
This can also be showed how women had much less rights because people were more likely believe
Valmont rather than Cecile if something was to come up about that seduction. Cecile wasn t able to
share it with anyone except for Madame de Merteuil because she knew she basically had no rights and
her life would be over. On the other hand Valmont was happy to share that he had an affair with Cecile
because it was an accomplishment for him, even though it was not as big as his usual

Narrative Essay On The Glass Castle
As flames engulfed her dress, they burned down her stomach as she screamed for help. This was the
first memory Jeannette Walls had in The Glass Castle . The plot of the story reveals her childhood of
poverty as she moved around the country with her delusional family. Her alcoholic father and
mentally ill mother created a very different lifestyle for their children, and raised them like no other.
The unique plot, strong characters, and many settings make the novel successful. In this
autobiography, she perseveres through tough times and leads the reader down the path she took to
adulthood.
In her younger years, Jeannette was an smart and imaginative child. At first, she enjoyed moving
around, and had a lot of faith in her father, which created a good relationship between them. All we
had to was find gold, once we d struck it rich, he d [Rex] start work on our Glass Castle (Walls, 25).
The tremendous faith that she has in Rex creates a strong bond because she is the only family member
who trusts his ideas. Unfortunately, he is a raging alcoholic who can t hold a job, so most of his
promises are broken. As Jeannette gets older, he lets her down more and more. One time he brought
her to a bar where she was then sexually violated. When the two had a talk after, he said I knew you
could handle yourself (Walls, 213,) instead of defending her. It was upsetting to watch their
relationship grow apart and to see how poorly he provided for his family, yet they still loved him.

Understanding Schizophrenia and Psychosis
Schizophrenia and Psychotherapy Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder differentiated by
degeneration of thought processes and of emotional reaction. It is characterized by auditory
hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized speech and thought process along with considerable social
or occupational dysfunction. Onset of symptoms is usually during early adulthood. Diagnosis is based
on DSM IV criteria for diagnosis of Schizophrenia (PubMed, 2010). It mainly affects the cognition
but behavior and emotion can also be involved. Schizophrenics can have certain coexisting conditions
such as major depression and anxiety disorders. These cognitive, emotional and behavioral problems
can lead to secondary problems like unemployment, academic difficulties and social issues.
Schizophrenics have higher tendency to suicide than general population which makes their life
expectancy 15 years less than the general population. The average life expectancy of people with the
disorder is 12 to 15 years less than those without, the result of increased physical health problems and
a higher suicide rate (about 5%). Following are the classification of Schizophrenia according to DSM
IV Manual Paranoid type: delusions, hallucinations without affecting the thought behavior, and
cognition. (DSM code 295.3/ICD code F20.0) Disorganized type: Though disorder and flat affect

My Experience In A Restaurant
Looking back, I can still recall the countless days that I spent in my family s restaurant. For twelve
hours every single day of the week, I spent the majority of my time alone at a corner table. My mom
was always occupied with leading the stream of faces, pouring through the doors, to their tables and
attending to their needs. On the other hand, my dad would be busy operating the large woks, rounded
cooking pans, over scorching red flames in order to keep the food trays in front of the kitchen doors
filled. Even though my parents were always around me, I had to spend most of my time by myself. I
would spend the dull lengthy periods I had doodling on menus, building with Legos and crafting
action figures out of eating utensils and rubber bands. Although I came up with many activities to
shorten the long days, my constantly changing thirst for entertainment could not be quenched. I
remembered one day; I ran into the back of the restaurant to complain to my dad. I told him that the
parents of other kids have jobs as well, yet they still spend time with their kids. and, it was not fair for
me to have my parents to say that they were too busy to see my drawings and praise my creations.
Fatigued and sweaty, my dad briefly stepped back from the heat of the woks and said, make use of the
opportunities that you have now so that you won t regret it in the future . Not surprisingly, I was a
dumb little kid and I stormed out of the kitchen with clenched fists, teary eyes, red face

Examples Of Conflict And Mediation
Conflict and Mediation An Introduction
We live during a time where conflict arises every day between people all over the world. What is of
interest is not what the conflict is about but rather, the way people handle the conflict. Mediation is
one of a number of alternative dispute resolution ( ADR ) mechanisms used to solve conflicts arising
between individuals. Mediation is a process whereby a neutral third party, the mediator, guides the
negotiation process in order to enable the parties to communicate and to voluntarily work towards
finding a resolution to their dispute in a sustainable manner.
Directive 2008/52/EC on certain Aspects of Mediation in Civil and Commercial Matters ( the
Directive ) provided a new momentum in Europe by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A non registered mediator is generally not subject to confidentiality or exemptions from the duty to
give evidence in court. Lawyers or other professionals, who act as mediators but are not registered,
would still be subject to the duty of confidentiality. The parties do not have a duty of confidentiality
but may contract an agreement thereof.
In line with article 7 of the Directive, in Austria, registered mediators may not be compelled to give
evidence in civil and commercial judicial proceedings or arbitration, regarding information arising out
of or in connection with a mediation process . However exceptions to the confidentiality principle
include instances where it is necessary for overriding considerations of public policy and where the
disclosure of the content of the mediation agreement is necessary in order to implement or enforce that
agreement . The testimony given by registered mediators in breach of this duty would be considered
inadmissible. Unlike non registered mediators, registered mediators may refuse to testify in criminal

The hearth, or fireplace, is a traditional symbol of the home (Sparknotes Editors). The salamander is
one of the official symbols of the firemen (Sparknotes Editors). Firemen also name their fire trucks
after the salamander (Sparknotes Editors). Both of these symbols involve fire which is a big part of
Montag s life. The hearth contains the fire that heats his home and the salamander because they
believed that salamanders live in fire and are unable to burn. The Sieve and the Sand, comes from
Montag s childhood memory of trying to fill a sieve with sand on the beach to get a dime from a
mischievous cousin and crying at the futility of the task (Sparknotes Editors). Montag compares this
memory to his attempt to read the whole Bible as quickly as possible on the subway in the hope that, if
he reads fast enough, some of the material will stay in his memory (Sparknotes Editors). The sand is a
symbol of the tangible truth Montag seeks, and the sieve is a symbol of the human mind seeking a
truth that remains elusive and, the metaphor suggests, impossible to grasp in any permanent way

In Santrock s (2014) textbook, Swiss child psychologist Jean Piaget explains many different aspects of
his theory of cognitive development. Some aspects that build Piaget s theory include object
permanence, assimilation, and accommodation. Object permanence is the understanding that objects
continue to exist even when they cannot be seen, heard, or touched (Santrock, 2014, p.94). Lewis did
not demonstrate object permanence when he was shown a toy and the toy was covered up. He
continued to look around the room and acted as if nothing was in front of him, thereby failing the
object permanence test. Lewis demonstrated Piaget s assimilation, which is when children use their
existing schemes to deal with new information or experiences (Santrock, 2014, p.93). Lewis
repeatedly kept putting new objects into his mouth, thereby demonstrating his existing scheme to deal

Cabaret Play Analysis
Cabaret (1998) by Joe Masteroff, John Kander and Fred Ebb is a thrilling tale set in pre WWI Berlin.
The first showing of Cabaret on Broadway was in 1966, but an earlier rendition of the play, entitled I
Am a Camera premiered in 1951, in London, England (Smith). Each version of Cabaret has
differences, the 1998 version specifically has a darker edge than the earlier versions. Cabaret has long
been one of my favorite musicals and I felt very honored to get to be a part of CMC s production. The
main theme of the play is adaptation. This is a main theme because the story of Cabaret highlights a

One of the most important dances in the entire show is If You Could See Her . Sung by the Emcee, If
You Could See Her is the last comedic scene of the show, mainly because the Emcee s partner is a
Gorilla. I had the honor of both choreographing this dance and playing the Gorilla in the show. I made
the decision while choregraphing to play off the initial humor of the Gorilla, making my movements
very grounded and jerky. The song however is not truly happy and the Emcee states at the end that if
you could see her through my eyes, referring to the Gorilla, she wouldn t look Jewish at all . I wanted
this line to have impact with the audience. To achieve this, I choreographed the Emcee and myself not
moving, fist looking at each other and then looking to the audience, almost accusingly when he refers
to the Gorilla as being Jewish. In dance some of most powerful moments are when there is no
movement, and I used this idea to my advantage in this dance. I was very satisfied with the gasps and
reactions of shock that we were able to achieve in that moment. I believe that the use of dance in
Cabaret help make the messages so impactful and was so excited to help create the dances for CMC s

Chivalry And Froissart s Image Of The Hundred Years War
Chivalry as a concept is something that has baffled many medieval historians over the years. Chivalry
was supposing a code that knights and nobles were to live their lives by however like many social
structures of the past historians have debated over what exactly chivalry was. According to Sir Walter
Scott chivalry was meant to be a code which knights could aspire to not necessarily carry out. His
description does seem to be accurate. Chivalric principles could not be carried out in real life.
Froissart s image of The Hundred Years War are romanticised in such a way that the historian must be
careful not to take a lot of the text too seriously. Perhaps we should forgive Froissart for this,
compared to modern standards his accuracy would fall short simply given the time he lived in. His
accounts often came from supposed eyewitnesses that would of course have manipulated their
accounts to suit themselves. Therefore when reading Froissart s Chronicles and concluding whether or
not his accounts are accurate one must take caution and remember the purpose of his writings and who
he is working for when completing them. Froissart s intentions are quite obvious from the beginning
of the text. He claims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Violence In Frantz Fanon s The Wretched Of The Earth
Frantz Fanon, in his book The Wretched of the Earth, seeks to define violence and its justification in
the context of colonialism. To understand Fanon s justification for violence, it is necessary to learn
how Fanon defines violence. Fanon s definitions of violence range from psychological to historical to
cultural, eventually leading the colonized to redirect this violence to the colonizer as a cleansing ritual.
In The Wretched of the Earth, The first type of violence that Fanon addresses is physical and bodily
harm. Fanon says that, Their first confrontation was colored by violence and their cohabitation or
rather the exploitation of the colonized by the colonizer continued at the point of the bayonet and
under cannon fire (Fannon 2). Immediately, the colonizer begins to imprison the indigenous people for
the colonist s benefit. He then defines ontological and epistemological violence. Ontological and
epistemological violence happens as the colonizer begins to steal the identity of the people they
control. This violence creates the bounds between the colonizer and the colonized. It traps the
indigenous people with slave identities, marking them as natives. Once this violence occurs,
colonizers begin to forget the greater reality of their actions. It becomes a Manichean paradigm. There
is no longer a gray area, just black and white, good and evil. Fanon even goes so far as writing that
Sometimes this Manichaeism reaches its logical conclusion and dehumanizes the

Lay Bare The Heart Analysis
Lay Bare the Heart by James Farmer tells the story of a terrifying, yet exciting Civil Rights
movement. It begins in 1961 and jumps right into action when James Farmer, the CORE (Congress of
Racial Equality) principal founder and last survivor of the Big Four , boards the Greyhound (Alabama
bound) bus with the Freedom Riders. With a little bit of convincing from Doris Castle, a 16 year old
CORE member, he decided that it was right for him to proceed. He was well advised that there would
be trouble ahead; nevertheless, Mr. Farmer wasn t terror stricken. When they arrived in Jackson,
Mississippi, the trouble began. Over two dozen policemen were surrounding the Freedom Riders and
they were arrested.
The Freedom rides were put together by Mr. Farmer and consisted of a mixed race of people. They all
followed the rule: Jail no bail. This ride was non violent and resulted in turmoil near the south. This
smart idea made James Farmer a powerful leader in the Civil Rights movement. No one had the same
amount of courage and fight inside as he did. While in jail, the Freedom Riders were mistreated by
policemen; they were cursed at and humiliated. To get through the constant interrogations, they sang
songs like: We Shall Overcome , Ain t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around , and Back of The Bus.
More Freedom Riders were sent to jail and each member ended up having a year sentence. James

Shortly after that, In J.C.R Licklider began conceptualize the idea developing a globally accessible
network of computers that would allow access of applications and data remotely throughout the world,
wherever the internet existed. Of course all of this would require huge bandwidth capabilities that at
that time were not available. However, this all became possible in the 1990 s when the bandwidth of
the internet had evolved to be large enough to bring cloud computing to the world ( history of cloud
computing, 2009).
Once the internet became a viable medium for cloud based computing, companies started offering
applications to the masses. In early 2000 s, Amazon developed a cloud based tool, Amazon
Mechanical Turk, which offered cloud computing, data storage and artificial intelligence. Later, in
2006, Amazon released its second generation cloud services known as Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
that allowed individuals and organizations to rent computing space to run all their computer
applications and data storage needs. With EC2, Amazon had truly brought in to the concept of cloud
computing. After that computer giants like Google, Microsoft and Apple began to offer affordable,
useful applications for computers and smart devices that were able to on the cloud and not by the
devises. Consequently, there are tens of thousands of such cloud based applications available. The

The Impact of the Little Rock Nine Essay
America has had quite a history. Moreover, America has had a distinct history concerning racial
differences. From the Civil War to the Civil Rights Act, America has showed past that is unforgettable.
However, America has showed a history concerning African Americans that still show up in our
present today. The Little Rock Nine, staged in 1957, proves that we are not that far away from our
previous actions against a different race. In the American heritage and main structure of government,
it says that all men are created equal. This paper will tell of the Little Rock Nine and their struggle,
and how it has changed America for the better. The Little Rock Nine started out as nine students just
signing up for a school. They never knew it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governor at the time, Orval Faubus, did not like this. And the mobs showed this as well. On the
first day that the nine students were supposed to go into school, the mobs chased them back home.
They threatened to kill them in any way that seemed most satisfying. Their favorites consisted of
hanging, or bombing their victims. Luckily, these incidents never took place. Melba Beals says that
Governor Orval Faubus announced his refusal to support the integration of our state s schools (1994).
To keep the nine students out of Central High School, he calls in the Arkansas National Guard, which
is commanded by the State of Arkansas. Just imagine you re going to school and upon arrival you see
soldiers with guns trying to keep you out. One would not want to be anywhere near that school. On the
first day that Melba Patillo Beals went to school, she thought it was a nightmare. There was a huge
mob outside Central High School, along with the Arkansas National Guard soldiers keeping them out.
The image of Elizabeth Eckford really shows how it was. White people were surrounding them,
cursing at them, of course saying the word nigger , and occasionally striking them (1994). It was so
bad that Melba had to take the keys to their car from her mother and run away to escape. Imagine the
sight of Melbas mother screaming at her Melba, take the keys. Get to the car.

Electroconvulsive Theraphy Should Be Used in Psychiatric...
ECT Should Be Used in Psychiatric Treatment
In contemporary psychiatry worldwide, Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) continues to be useful.
However, researchers, the general public and practitioners have not yet understood this therapy.
Controversies continue to surround the application of this therapy, especially the long term
consequences of its legality and use in the management of some severe major depression,
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and mental illness. Particularly, a few mental health service users
report adverse effects that are associated with ECT for instance, severe memory loss. Some
researchers claim that the Electroconvulsive therapy is the utmost controversial treatment in the field
of psychiatry. Arguably, ECT should be used in physiatrist treatment.
Randomized Controlled Trial (RCTs) demonstrates that the use of ECT is effectual when treating
major depression. However, it quickly resolves all mental problems. When controlled in a setting that
is safe, the treatment becomes comfortable. Some researchers argue that Genuine ECT is more
effective in treating acute treatment caused by depression rather than sham ECT. In addition, ECT is
also more effective in comparison with standard antidepressant medication treatment (Sienaert 8).
Clinical trials that compare ECT with optimal pharmacotherapy are yet to be conducted. There is no
evidence that demonstrates the ECT effectiveness in the treatment of Schizophrenia. Genuine ECT has
been more effective in

Essay On Pro Life
Abortion is one the most controversial topics in the United States. The issue at hand is should abortion
be legal or not. It is highly debated with in both media and politics. According to History Channel,
Supreme Court legalizes abortion , in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe V. Wade ruled that
women have the constitutional right to privacy, thus legalizing abortion. This law gave women the
right to terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. This sparked huge controversy between
pro life and pro choice believers. Both pro life and pro choice have numerous arguments to justify
their opinions. In a report done by WebMD, Abortion Reasons Women Choose Abortion, nine out of
ten abortions are performed within the first twelve weeks. Abortion should be legal because it is a
women s constitutional right, mental and physical health, and other. Women have the right to choose
what to do with their bodies and or self. The most common phrase said is My Body, My Choice
women have rights just like men do. We are surrounded by rights. We all must make choices in our
lives based on what we believe is safe and best for ourselves at that time. Thus, women have that right
to decide to have an abortion or not. A common argument between pro life and pro choice believers is
abortion considered murder. According to editor Michelle Ye Hee Lee, The Washington Post, Setting
the record straight on measuring fetal age and the twenty week abortion. A fetus is considered viable

Internal Threats And External Threats
Current Threats
Previous mention has been made of the types of threats facing CI, both external and internal. A closer
analysis of some of these threats will provide an insight into the complex world of CI and the
difficulty in being more effective against internal threats than external threats. Despite years of
combatting both types of threats, CI time and time again, has shown that it is still more effective when
dealing with external threats due to its more offensive, proactive actions .It appears that CI in dealing
with internal threats has moved even further towards a defensive, more genteel approach which,
unfortunately, can have a negative impact. Yet, ironically, it is failure in dealing with internal threats
that will bring the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has produced a booklet entitled The Insider Threat: An
Introduction into Detecting and Deterring an Insider Spy https://www.fbi.gov/file

personnel uses knowledge gleaned from past academic and psychological works on Organizational
Behaviour and characteristics of human behaviour, as well as past experiences in identifying
suspicious behaviour. The May 20th 2017 New York Times
(https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/20/world/asia/china cia spies espionage.html?_r=0) presented an
article as did several renowned news outlets telling of how the Chinese government systematically
dismantled CIA spying operations in the country from 2010 to 2012. It has only been recently
admitted by American officials that the killing and imprisonment of over a dozen spies was the worst
intelligence breach for over a decade. No one can be sure how the breach occurred, but this is a perfect
example of an internal threat, a threat that had already appeared on the radar but had not been dealt
with effectively until the damage was done. This example was a clear win for Chinese Intelligence and
a sad loss for the United States. Still, only 3 years later in 2015, another massive hack into government

Its purpose is also to discuss how the practices being deployed in this scenario can help any of the organizations to secure market power, which is defined by the ability of a firm to profitably raise the market price of a good or service over marginal cost (Market Power). Finally, it will also discuss the impact that an oligopoly in this case has on society, and will determine whether such scenarios are helpful or harmful to ... Effects of Antitrust Behavior by Johnson Johnson and Novartis AG Restricting market access to a generic drug provider by way of a contractual agreement or deal results in financial implications for all entities involved in the deal. The oligopoly holding company would incur large expenses as a result of making a payout to the generic drug maker for delaying release of their product. It is a tool in the hands of the State to use it judiciously for the promotion of inter communal peace and harmony, and to ensure, depending on the peculiarities of each case, that all the communities receive equal treatment. India waited another twenty seven years to enshrine secularism as one of the objectives of the nation. On 1 September 1976, through the 42nd Amendment Act, passed during an internal emergency, the words secular and socialist were formally added to the preamble of the Constitution. Then proposed constitutional changes can be considered under the following heads: (i) Amendability of the Constitution; (ii) Fundamental Rights; (iii) Directive Principles ... Let anyone say that socialism or secularism is incapable of definition (sic). Well, in order to accept that argument of the Law Minister , one may say that democracy in that sense is also incapable of definition because, it is understood in different ways in different countries. But, there is consensus on the way we practice democracy. In the same way, the meanings of the words socialism and secularism are well understood and embedded in the Constitution. Accounting represents reality and act for a construction of social reality. It can be said that the economic reality is subjective (Hines1991. P.316). • 8. Comparing The Soul Selects Her Own Society And The Dresser In the poems The Soul Selects Her Own Society, by Emily Dickinson, and The Dresser, by Walt Whitman, one can see two drastically different ways of how the speaker is represented in poetry. While Whitman s poem focuses on his volunteer work in the American Civil War, Dickinson s piece is a much more simple and vague poem about choosing one s friends. Although both of these poems focus on a person interacting with complete strangers, Whitman s speaker is transparent and central to the poem, while Dickinson s speaker is essentially unknown to the reader and somewhat inconsequential. In The Dresser, the speaker is the main focus of the poem, which results in the speaker being transparent to the reader. In the poem, the speaker appears multiple times in each stanza, and its title refers to the speaker. The poem even starts by introducing the speaker: An old man bending, ... In representing the speaker in her poetry, Dickinson offers no introduction to the speaker whatsoever; the speaker is a nameless character, completely unknown to the reader. This generation was pushing the limits of sexual, social, and political inhibitions and behind the force of their hippie love was the engine of psychedelic rock and roll music. This genre of rock music is inspired by the counterculture scene of the 1950 s and 60 s and attempts to capture the mind altering feelings and emotions attached to psychedelic drugs. The first group to advertise themselves as psychedelic rock was the 13th Floor Elevators from Texas, at the end of 1965. However, the partnership of drugs and music goes back much further than that. The Beat Generation writers in the second half of the 1950 s, such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, used and wrote about drugs like cannabis and Benzidrine, which popularized and raised more awareness of drug use. The media is media technologies that are intended to reach a large audience by mass communication. Today the media play a key role in enhancing globalization. And the media also play important role in facilitating culture exchange flows of information between countries. Foe example: We can say about internet, TV, radio, newspapers, books, billboards and etc. The media connects the world to a network of information easily accessible for all of us. In this discussion arises a question: Which role has media in globalization process? I think the role of media in globalization process is very important. And my point of view is that the media is a part of the globalization process, it is like pen of the globalization process, because media shares everything that the globalization process dictates. The important role in globalization process has Internet, which connects all the countries around the world. Internet is called world wide web . So if we say about the globalization process we should remind that the developed countries globalize enough. However, there are some countries which do not globalize enough. • 11. I Am Not A Patriot Analysis Why I Am Not a Patriot (Terms and Conditions May Apply) Standard dictionaries define patriotism as a love for or devotion to one s country. While this offers a succinct introduction to the notion of patriotism, a comprehensive account of the subject extends well beyond the scope of any singular definition. In his defense of Modern Patriotism, Stephen Nathanson addresses the hesitation that people face when forced to adopt or reject the patriot label. Indeed, the modern conception of a patriot carries implications of blind allegiance and excessive nationalism. Alternatively, to say that one is not a patriot suggests that one lacks the loyalty appropriate to citizens. I open this discussion with the inner dialogue I faced when asked ... While few advocates of patriotism would argue against the value of adopting patriotic beliefs, the touchstone of patriotism involves a readiness to act for your country. Kateb interprets this as a readiness to die and to kill, for one s country. Instead a true patriot promises to uphold and advance a set of principles, even when his country does not. • 12. Lab Report Sample Essay Introduction The exposed roadcut east of the Doc Long Picnic area, about 9 miles north of the town of Cedar Crest on the east side of the Sandia Mountains, provided an exceptional site to study weathering processes. The exposed Precambrian Sandia Granite offered a place to collect data and test the hypothesis that biotite content, grainsize, and associated inclusions have influenced the amount of weathering that has occurred. The granite underlies the Great Unconformity and the Madera Formation, which is a carbonate succession with interbedded sandstones, Pennsylvanian in age. The granitic outcrop composed of the dominant minerals quartz, potassium feldspar (some plagioclase), and biotite (field book) displayed different degrees of weathering. Different weathering features in the exposure such as grussification, jointing, and corestones suggested that grain size and biotite content were not the only influences on weathering processes taking place. Methods Data collection for assessing our hypothesis consisted of making several observations along the exposed granite. The main observations noted included mineral composition, weathering rank, mean grain size, percent biotite, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 17. A Discussion Of Socratic Irony As we can see, Kierkegaard traces a parallel between Socrates ironic practice and a picture. Furthermore, the effect of his rejoinders is likened to that of an image suddenly popping up while we stare at this picture. In order to get at Kierkegaard s point, we have to consider that this passage is contained inside a discussion of Xenophon s portrait of Socrates. In fact, the whole passage is meant those aspects of Socratic irony which Xenophon missed. In this regard, Kierkegaard writes that what he dislikes in Xenophon s treatment of Socrates is his failure to portray the two essential elements of Socratic irony. The first one is situation , the second one are his rejoinders . A bit below, Kierkegaard adds that [...] Socratic questioning is clearly [...] analogous to the negative in Hegel, except that the negative, according to Hegel is a necessary element in thought itself, is a determinant ad intra [inwardly]; in Plato [and therefore in Socrates] , the negative is made graphical and placed outside the object in the inquiring individual . This two ways of conceiving the negative give way to two modes of leading philosophical inquiry. In the first case, [...] one can ask with the intention of receiving an answer containing the desired fullness, and hence the more one asks, the deeper and more significant becomes the answer; or [in the second case,] one can ask without any interest in the answer except to suck out the apparent content by means of the question and thereby ... Augustus Caesar was formally named Octavian and is a character in Shakespeare s play. Secondly, both The Aeneid and Antony and Cleopatra share a common theme of a patriotic, heroic man having to choose between duty to his country and the passionate love of a beautiful, foreign and strong queen. The first reason why The Aeneid is associated with Antony and Cleopatra is because a character in Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian, later known as Augustus, is the leader of the Roman Empire during the time when Virgil wrote The Aeneid and for whom it was written. Historically, before Augustus became emperor, internal strife plagued the Roman government. During Virgil s youth, the First Triumvirate which included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus governed the Roman Empire. Crassus was killed around 53 B.C.E., and Caesar initiated civil war against Pompey. After defeating Pompey, Caesar reigned alone until the Ides of March in 44 B.C., when Brutus and Cassius, two senators, assassinated him. Civil war erupted between the assassins and the Second Triumvirate which included Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. By 36 B.C.E., only Octavian and Antony remained, and they began warring against each other. At the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C., Octavian defeated Antony and his ally Cleopatra of Egypt, finally consolidating power in himself alone (Sparknotes). Shakespeare s play follows the events of the Second Triumvirate and ends when Octavian defeats Antony and becomes the sole ruler. (Although Shakespeare uses historical names and events, the minute details and specific conversations between the characters in the play are fictitious.) Four years after the events included in Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian assumed the title Augustus. Virgil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Analysis Of The Current Energy Productions And... Response paper # 4 GEOG 473 SPRING 2016 Chad (Jong H) Lee Historically, most of the current energy productions and distribution systems are centrally controlled regardless whether it is operated by government or private sectors. Not to mention most of the current government policies on those energy sectors are highly tailored of the centralized structure. Part of the reasons I can think of that is because the framework of the current energy model is largely focused on a big scale energy system. Although this is not necessarily mean bad, but there are also some disadvantages when we only focus on big scale energy systems. A couple of good examples are hydroelectric and nuclear power. While these two sources of energy produce energy in completely different ways, they are traditionally massive in its scale. Hydroelectric power is the oldest energy source. From a small water wheel to a massive dam, humans have been used many of them for a long time. Since the principles of the technology in hydroelectric plant are relatively simple and using flowing water, it is one of the most widely used, as key energy source worldwide, and supplying electricity much like at the national scale in many counties. While many large scale hydroelectric dams continue to be built in many parts of the world, it is unlikely U.S. will add more of them in the future. One of the reasons is the arising consensus of its environmental impacts to the natures. Unlike a small scale hydroelectric dam, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Dangerous Liaisons By Pierre Ambroise Laclos It is true that in the old times women did not have equal rights as men. Men had more social and political freedom comparing to women, and the system was organized on men. It took a really long time for women to gain at least some equality. In the book Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Ambroise Laclos there are many examples of women having much less rights comparing to men in the 18th century. Back then, women simply couldn t do what men could simply because they were women and they weren t considered as powerful as men were. Women had to do more things in order for them to do the same things as men. For example, if women wanted to have an affair it had to be kept secret and no one was supposed to find out about it, because if someone did find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So the author can also hide Cecile s true feeling because she doesn t want everyone to know that she was raped. This would make her life in the future miserable, because none of the men would want to marry her, since back then men wanted to have pure wives. Another part of this argument is that Valmont said that since he had the key to Cecile s room, people would believe him rather then her. Cecile states that in the letter to Madame de Merteuil: ...he was careful to tell me that, if anyone came, he would know how to put all the blame on me; and, indeed, it was very easy, because of the key. (letter 97, page 148). That could be true the people would believe Valmont rather than Cecile because of the key, but Cecile could have also brought up that she gave him the key because she wanted him to bring the letters from Danceny, since Cecile s mother already knew that Cecile was writing to Danceny before. This could have saved her from the rape from Valmont. But because she didn t not do that, I do not believe that the scene with Valmont seduction of Cecile, could be considered as rape. This can also be showed how women had much less rights because people were more likely believe Valmont rather than Cecile if something was to come up about that seduction. Cecile wasn t able to share it with anyone except for Madame de Merteuil because she knew she basically had no rights and her life would be over. On the other hand Valmont was happy to share that he had an affair with Cecile because it was an accomplishment for him, even though it was not as big as his usual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The plot of the story reveals her childhood of poverty as she moved around the country with her delusional family. Her alcoholic father and mentally ill mother created a very different lifestyle for their children, and raised them like no other. The unique plot, strong characters, and many settings make the novel successful. In this autobiography, she perseveres through tough times and leads the reader down the path she took to adulthood. In her younger years, Jeannette was an smart and imaginative child. At first, she enjoyed moving around, and had a lot of faith in her father, which created a good relationship between them. The tremendous faith that she has in Rex creates a strong bond because she is the only family member who trusts his ideas. One time he brought her to a bar where she was then sexually violated. When the two had a talk after, he said I knew you could handle yourself (Walls, 213,) instead of defending her. These cognitive, emotional and behavioral problems can lead to secondary problems like unemployment, academic difficulties and social issues. Schizophrenics have higher tendency to suicide than general population which makes their life expectancy 15 years less than the general population. The average life expectancy of people with the disorder is 12 to 15 years less than those without, the result of increased physical health problems and a higher suicide rate (about 5%). Chivalry was supposing a code that knights and nobles were to live their lives by however like many social structures of the past historians have debated over what exactly chivalry was. Froissart s image of The Hundred Years War are romanticised in such a way that the historian must be careful not to take a lot of the text too seriously. His accounts often came from supposed eyewitnesses that would of course have manipulated their accounts to suit themselves. To understand Fanon s justification for violence, it is necessary to learn how Fanon defines violence. Fanon s definitions of violence range from psychological to historical to cultural, eventually leading the colonized to redirect this violence to the colonizer as a cleansing ritual. In The Wretched of the Earth, The first type of violence that Fanon addresses is physical and bodily harm. Fanon says that, Their first confrontation was colored by violence and their cohabitation or rather the exploitation of the colonized by the colonizer continued at the point of the bayonet and under cannon fire (Fannon 2). Immediately, the colonizer begins to imprison the indigenous people for the colonist s benefit. He then defines ontological and epistemological violence. Ontological and epistemological violence happens as the colonizer begins to steal the identity of the people they control. This violence creates the bounds between the colonizer and the colonized. It traps the indigenous people with slave identities, marking them as natives. Once this violence occurs, colonizers begin to forget the greater reality of their actions. It becomes a Manichean paradigm. There is no longer a gray area, just black and white, good and evil. It begins in 1961 and jumps right into action when James Farmer, the CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) principal founder and last survivor of the Big Four , boards the Greyhound (Alabama bound) bus with the Freedom Riders. With a little bit of convincing from Doris Castle, a 16 year old CORE member, he decided that it was right for him to proceed. He was well advised that there would be trouble ahead; nevertheless, Mr. Farmer wasn t terror stricken. When they arrived in Jackson, Mississippi, the trouble began. No one had the same amount of courage and fight inside as he did. While in jail, the Freedom Riders were mistreated by policemen; they were cursed at and humiliated. To get through the constant interrogations, they sang songs like: We Shall Overcome , Ain t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around , and Back of The Bus.
