Abstract:
In this experiment we were trying to determine the osmolarity of potato tubers by weighing them
before and after incubating them in solutions of sucrose with varying molarities. To find the
osmolarity we took a potato and used a cork borer to obtain seven samples of potato tubers. We then
prepared seven beakers with concentrations of sucrose ranging from 0.0M to 0.6M. After weighing the
potato tubers one by one we cut them in half and placed each halved tuber into each beaker. We
incubated them for 1 hour, stirring every 10 minutes. After one hour we removed the ... Show more

experiment.
Results:
The purpose of this experiment was to incubate potato tubers in solutions with increasing molarities of
sucrose to determine osmolarity based on the weight of the potato tubers before and after incubation.
After removing the potato tubers from the beakers, we weighed the pieces and recorded the weights.
We then observed the weight change and percent change in weight of the potatoes. In every
concentration of sucrose the weight of the potato tubers increased, with the largest change in weight
being in the 0.2M solution of sucrose with a change of 9.5%. The smallest change in weight was in the
0.4M solution of sucrose; the change in weight was 0.47% (Table 1). The percent change in weight of
the potato tubers started high at 0.0M with a change of 4.3% and decreased to 2.4% at 0.1M, then
increased dramatically to 9.5% at 0.2M. It decreased again to 0.48% at 0.3M then again to 0.47% at
0.4M. At 0.5M it increased to 3.5%, and then at 0.6M the weight change decreased again to 1.0%. The
percent change of weight generally decreased from 0.0M to 0.4M, and both 0.5M and 0.6M are
increases from 0.4M (Figure 1).

identification. The use of ancient fingerprints are not the same techniques we use today. In 1880, a
man by the name of Henry Fauld, a Scottish physician working in a hospital in Japan, published his
own views on the potential application of fingerprinting to personal identification (Saferstein, 2016,
pg. 164). He suggested that the skin patterns could be important for the identification of criminals.

shooter, and even attends the trial of Morrow. In this chapter, Horwitz is able to present both sides of
the murder, and the lasting effect on both. Horwitz also succeeds in starting conversations with the
people he s interviewing, which also secures him invites to Civil War related events, which adds
another view to his narrative. One of Horwitz s flaws throughout the novel is his passiveness when
interviewing someone. Instead of prodding their beliefs and discussing their statements, he is just
there seeming to come more from more a distance with more of a somber attitude in regards to those

do today. The islands hold exotic and extraordinary plants and animals. Of these animals, some are
going extinct or have already gone extinct. There are many varieties of natural and introduced plant
life. Charles Darwin was born February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. He sailed on the HMS
Beagle in 1831. He knew he was going to the Galapagos, but he didn t know that he would discover
the theory of evolution. The plants on the Galapagos Island are very tropical and numerous in varietes.
According to the Galapagos Conservancy there are about six hundred and forty native species of of
plants on the Galapagos Islands. There are about eight hundred and twenty five introducer species.
One hundred of the introduced species have become established in the wild. There are three major
zones that the plants live in ; the coastal zone, the arid zone, and the highlands zone. In the coastal
zone mangrove trees are very common and have an important role for bird breeding sites. The arid
zone is very dry and has adapted to the drought conditions. Some of these plants that have adapted to
the drought conditions are the succulent cacti and the leafless shrub, which only grows leaves in the
