EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON STRENGTH AND WORKABILITY OF CEMENT MATERIALS
USING MAGNESIUM SILICATE HYDRATE BINDER SYSTEM
H. M. Tran, A. Scott
1,2University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand
There has been increasing studies on magnesium silicate hydrate binder system as an eco cement and
its potential use for nuclear waste immobilization. The cementing properties and workability of
cement paste and mortar using magnesium silicate hydrate binder were examined by compressive
strength, flow test and scanning electron microscopy. The binder composition was proposed based on
stoichiometric ratio. The results showed that magnesium silicate hydrate binder exhibits very high
water demand due to containing high microfine content of amorphous silica (silica fume). However, it
is possible to produce workable mixes at normal water to binder ratio (w/cm=0.40 and below) by use
of polycarboxylate based superplasticizer. Crushed quartz with smooth texture and particle size
coarser than magnesium and silica fume was used as fillers to form ternary system. Use of crushed
quartz fillers contributes to water reduction and improves packing density, hence increases strength of
magnesium silicate hydrate binder system. Mortar samples of the binder containing 40% magnesium
oxide, 40% silica fume (Mg/Si molar ratio = 1.50) and 20% crushed quartz fillers resulted in
encouraging compressive strength of up to 70 MPa.

Political Party Vs. Politics
Political party or anything in connection with politics is a common topic of every group of Indian who
are sitting together at any place. It is always a debatable topic. Most of Indians are very much
interested in politics. We look at formation of many parties; we find that their establishment are
mainly due to ideological differences that result in split in parent party and at the end leads to
formation of a new political party with a new agenda.
In multi party system like India, the parties can be classified into three types i.e.; National parties,
Regional parties and State parties. The status of the party is granted by Election Commission of India
and after that it is reviewed occasionally. All the parties whether national, Regional or State party, they
are registered with Election Commission. A unique election symbol is given by the Election
Commission to every registered party
Currently there are 7 National parties and 56 State parties. The total number of registered
unrecognised parties in India is 1786. There are mainly nine regional parties out of 657 Regional
parties. There are 12 other upcoming parties.
The Election Commission mandates certain rules regarding starting a new political party in India like;
1. Every new party to have at least 100 members.[There are no set rules on how or who to recruit, it s
up to the party]
2. Each member is required to hold an Indian voter ID card.
3. Individuals must be 18 years old [major].

Difference Between Group Work And Group Work
 Introduction
In today s modern era of this world work is very important for everyone. No one can survive in this
world without any work. Work is a activity where we can apply our ideas in an particular situation. We
can t define work as a single type or term because work is comes with its number of parts and types
like SOCIAL, PROJECT WORK and much more types. In this paper I am going to flash a light on
Group work and Individual work and which is better from both of them.
1. Group Work
Group work is also known as team work when two or more than two persons are working on a same
project is known as group work. In group work we can share our ideas with our co partners and give
that idea a new shape. Group work is a type of voluntary association that increases the total output of
the activity rather than it is done by individually.
More ideas
In a group every person had its own ideas, prospects and experiences. In a group every person is
belong from an different backgrounds and have a different experiences so that s why every person
have an different ideas on his basis that s why we can get lot ideas in our group work.
Increase Productivity
By making actions and decisions together (regardless of their position). By working in a group
chances of mistake is very less. By spending too much hours with each group member on the
discussion about an work than we get very effective results which increase the productivity of our
work.

Crowd Psychology
The question that I intend to study is: How do shy people react in a crowd? (do they become
aggressive/ assertive as per mob psychology, or shrink as per their personality)? There are various
theories regarding the mode of behavior in a crowd. Some, such as Freud, posit that people behavior
changes in a crowd and they become more restless and less individualistic. Mob theory, in fact, is born
form this which asserts that crowds are the source of volatile conduct where diverse people gang
together for a particular cause. Minds merge and each person s enthusiasm becomes increased as a
result. On the other hand, you have the Convergence theory that posits that the cause is born
beforehand and that people join the crowd in order to put their cause into practice. The crowd, in other
words, enables them to accomplish their objective and it makes them more enthusiastic and
entrenched in their mission. Social psychologists leBon (1895) and Zimbardo (1969) see the crowd as
an instigator of individuation. Stimuli such as mergence into a larger whole, the rush of the
environment, the pressure of the crowd, the sensory overload and so forth blur mental input and
causes a deindivdualistic individual to appear. One thing that is remarkable about all of these theories
is that they tend to generalize assuming categorical behavior to all individuals and providing the
aspect of crowd with anthropomorphic qualities. Indeed, Schweingruber and Wohlstein
(PsyBlog.com) point out that crowd

Growth Mindset Research Paper
Brainology
Fixed mindset, growth mindset, praise effort and praise for intelligence with impact and my
experience about them with specific examples
Mindsets are beliefs which people hold on their most basic abilities and qualities. In the growth
mindset, individuals believe that they can develop their talents, brain, and skills. This creates an
environment for learning, resilience and a drive for growth. On the other hand, people believe in a
fixed mindset that primary qualities like abilities and intelligence are fixed and cannot be developed. It
also believes that talents create success alone, and it does not take effort as the strategy needed to
maximize one s potential rather than a sign of weakness. For example, transforming motivation ...

Teaching individuals to develop growth mindset will encourage the process and not on talent or
intelligence. Teachers and parents can make children develop growth mindset by praising their
strategies and persistence, by giving them stories that emphasize on effort and the Importance of
learning, and teaching the students that a brain is a learning tool or machine (Gupta, et al., 2012). The
society is currently worshipping talent and individuals assume that having the ability or superior
intelligence with confidence is one way of succeeding. Overemphasis on talent or intelligence leaves
students prone to failure, afraid of challenges and they are not ready to accept their shortcomings
(Taylor, et al., 2014). Praising innate abilities of children, reinforce fixed mindset, which can prevent
people in workforces or young athletics and even the married people to live up to their potential. By
teaching students to have the growth mindset encourages them to use their personal effort and come
up with effective strategies and not talent or intelligence which will help them to achieve highly in life
and even in school. As theories suggest, students who have growth mindset believes that learning is
the crucial goal than performing well in school with good grades. Hard work is highly regarded,
believing that if you labor on something, it will lead to perfection. Even the geniuses have to put

A Research Study On Outsourcing Activities
1. INTRODUCTION
This chapter introduces brief information about research background and rationale; next, research
problems are specified which are then directed down to research objectives. Finally, ethical
confirmation is presented, coming up with the research structure.
1.1. Background
During last decades, lots of companies in developed countries have moved their production processes
from the origin country to other developing countries in the East, Southeast and South Asia (Tate et al
2014), so called offshoring or outsourcing activities. This practice occurred strongly as a trend in the
manufacturing industry due to economic and strategic objectives such as lower overseas labour cost,
location advantage cost, related government and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phenomenon of firms transferring their business operations back to its country of origin can be
referred as reshoring, insourcing, onshoring, backshoring, homeshoring, and rightshoring (Espana
2013). Even though some explanation have been mentioned, this strategic changes in manufacturing
location mainly because of increase in wages, fluctuation in currency values, labour productivity and
reduction of energy costs from 2004 to 2014. According to the International Labour Organization,
wages in low cost countries have soared. For instance, real wages in Asia rose by 7.1% to 7.8% a year
between 2000 and 2008 while pays in advanced economies just increased 0.5% to 0.9%, even in
American manufacturing, the real wages have declined by 2.2% since 20005. Pay for senior
management in several emerging markets such as China, Turkey and Brazil, now either matches or
exceeds pay in America and Europe (Hay Group report 2014). In addition, pay and benefits in China
the largest offshoring and outsourcing developing country increased by 10% (2000 2005) and 19%
(2005 2010) (Boston Consulting Group 2011) (figure 1). Moreover, Chinese Government increased
the target minimum wages by 13% until 2015. At this rate, wage differential between the US and
China will disappear by 2020 (Sirkin et al.). Figure 1: Wage rate revolution (source: Boston

Ideology of Fundamentalist Islam Explained Essay
Introduction:
This essay concerns itself with exploring the Islamic and political orientation of Sayyid Qutb (1906
1966), an Egyptian civil servant turned political and religious activist, inspired by fundamentalist
Islam. To gain an understanding of what influenced and formulated Qutb s ideas it has been necessary
to provide some background information relating the history of modern day Egypt and the emergence
of reformist and fundamentalist Islam, from the 19th century until Qutb s time. The essay also seeks to
give some biographical information in order to provide a fuller picture of Qutb the man.
Qutb s involvement with Egyptian religious politics caused him to come into conflict with the Nasser
government of 1950s Egypt and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The latter is the focus of this essay, however he cannot be discussed without some understanding of
the historical and political background to the tensions which are now evident between some aspects of
Islamic and Western thought. Yet the designation fundamentalist also deserves brief consideration. For
the purpose of this essay the term refers to Muslims who believe it is necessary to return to the
fundamentals of Islamic belief in order to express true Islam, this necessitates a narrow interpretation
of Qur anic texts and tradition. The term is problematic in that it is drawn into the conflicting territory
of description and taxonomy, especially when, as is often the case, fundamentalism blurs the division
between religion and politics. Is fundamentalism religion in the service of political ideology or
ideology veiled as religion? (Moussalli (ed) 1998: 1, 27 28). A detailed discussion of these issues is
not possible here, however discussing the political and religious views of Sayyid Qutb may be of
assistance in discerning the political and religious dimensions of fundamentalism.
Islam, during its early years, was a dynamic force engendering rapid social change in the Arabian
peninsula and its environs during the 6th and 7th centuries, therefore its

Essay on Ordinary Men
There are no extraordinary men... just extraordinary circumstances that ordinary men are faced to deal
with (William Halsey). The same can be said about volatile men. This is the quote Christopher R.
Browning thought of when he named this book. The men of the 101st battalion were rarely faced with
decisions. Even if it had been proposed by Trapp the morning of Jozefow that any of the older men
who did not feel up to the task that lay before them could step out (Browning, chapter 7, pg. 57), he
didn t actually allow them any time to truly think about it. He brought it up moments before they were
about to go out to the slaughter. They were blind sided and the men who didn t want to risk the future
of their jobs as policemen or the men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can see how distraught he is during the first massacre but how does the climate of the war change
him? Even in the very same chapter, we see him change when he turns away from the Jews who tried
to kiss his hands for saving them. But it s in chapter 11 we truly see how the climate of war has made
him adapt. When faced with a killing quota when stationed in Talcyn, Trapp decides to kill the Jewish
population instead of the Poles. Seemingly, this is because they re more expendable. But to me, it
seems as if he s gotten used to killing Jews. Poles can still be looked at as people for him. He hasn t
distanced himself from them like he has been forced to with Jews. The very obvious rules of the
German side of this war is that Jews aren t necessary. So when faced with the decision to kill Poles or
Jews, Trapp created his own rule that Jews are more expendable then Poles. The man who once
weeped for the Jews no longer had any inhibitions about shooting more then enough Jews to meet his
quota (Browning, chapter 11, pg. 102). Major Trapp, to me, was the epitome of the ordinary men who
didn t enjoy senseless murder evolving into a man who became accustomed to senseless murder. But
idea of the general populace also shifted to aclimatize itself to the rules of this war. In the beginning,
the Jozefow matter was simply not discussed (Browning, chapter 7, pg 69.) But in the end, what made
it easier for them was

Police Gang Suppression Analysis
The development of gangs in the course of the last two decades has been accompanied by the
development and progression of specialized law enforcement responses to gangs. The nature, features
and scope of police gang control shows the formation of police gang units and theoretical and policy
rationales for police gang units. Police gang units are imaginably the clearest embodiment of the gang
suppression approach (Klein, 1995a: 161). Under the suppression approach, Klein (1995a) argues,
enforcement officials see their primary responsibility as responding to gang street crimes. Suppression
strategy is based on deterrence theory. The purpose of the deterrence is keep a possible offender from

Archeology is not as simple as looking at rocks and figuring out the past. Carbon dating and other
methods that can be used were further explained during this lecture. Other aspects of archeology were
also better elaborated during the talk as well.
The speaker, Doctor Andrew Shortland, told us a little story to begin his lecture and it was about a
man named George Green. His story began with George taking something to the museum and that
something was a valuable 1350 B.C. pop style egyptian mini statue. He brought it in and offered it to
the museum so they could display if to the public and of course get some money. As the story goes the

Shortland went on he explained methods of finding out if artifacts were of that time, place, and
material the people used at the time. One of the methods he talked about was Carbon Dating, which is
a way of finding out an object s age by using properties of radiocarbon, a radioactive isotope of
carbon. A second way of finding out an artifact s date can be Potassium argon dating which can be
used to date extremely old artifacts up to 100,000 years old. The last method he explained was
Obsidian hydration dating which is used on artifacts made from volcanic glass. One thing that got my
attention were the machines they used to find their legitimacy, date, and so on and one of them was a

across a sample s surface. After it scans completely it produces an image or a sample s elemental
composition. The 3 signals that provide the most information in the SEM are the secondary electrons,
backscattered electrons, and X rays. He also talked about an XRF, X ray fluorescence, a non
destructive analytical technique used to determine the elemental composition of materials. The XRF
analyzers determine the chemistry of a sample by measuring the fluorescent X ray emitted from a
sample when it is excited by a primary X ray source. Thirdly he mentioned an XRD, X ray powder

The On The Outer World
The E (Extravert) indicates that this type of individuals is focus on the outer world more than their
individual world. This type of character expresses opinions without difficulty; however, they are
concerned about how those opinions will affect other people. The extraverts center on reading other
people s feelings. They have a strong need to be liked and to be in control this could take them to
modify their own manners to please the group (Inc., 2016).
The S (Sensing) index states that this type of personality is more sensing than intuitive. The sensing
people have a strong sense of the right and wrong. They set their attention on the information that
comes in through the five senses. They are more practical and worry about what they can see, hear,
touch, taste, and smell. They live in what is actual, present, or current. They don t worry about the
future or the past and like to see the practical side of the things (Inc., 2016). The F (Feeling) index
points to the type of personality that bases the decisions on feelings over the reason. They are contrary
to do things that involves subtract or theoretical concepts. They prefer to keep themselves in more
structured environments. However, they have a lack of intuition, which can label them as narrow
minded. They are worried about the other people s opinion and they need a lot of external positive
affirmation to feel good (Inc., 2016).

New Labour Thatcherism Similarities
For many, New Labour possessed an abundance of similarities to the Conservative governments
previous to it, in particular the 1979 1990 party led by Margret Thatcher. These similarities are evident
in their continuation of Conservative policies and their abandonment of Labour policies that were
previously inherent to the party. It is important to note that I have interpreted warmed up as a term
describing New Labour s less confrontational style of governance in comparison to that of Thatcher.
This essay will be arguing that New Labour was more than warmed up Thatcherism, in fact, they
posed as an advancer of Thatcherism through their continuation of Thatcherite policies and their
decision to build upon them. To evaluate this point, it is necessary to define the origins of both New
Labour and Thatcherism. The 1997 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Thatcher s economic policies including a deregulated financial sector. Upon assuming her role as

Persuasive Essay For Physical Therapy
If anyone has ever played a sport or been in a competition, they know how it feels when they are stuck
on the sideline or on the bench while one knows they could be helping their team in the game. Nobody
wants to be injured and have that kind of feeling any longer than they have to. Every player wants to
get back to being healthy and on the hardwood or the pitch as fast as possible. Those feelings never go
away, and there is not many careers that one can pursue to keep that feeling. If one is not talented
enough to become a professional athlete, the opportunities are slim. One way to stay around the life an
athlete has been accustom to for so many years of their life, is to go into the field of sports physical
therapy. This helps a person be around the athletes and continue to benefit a team while still retaining
a stable career to support a family. Although physical therapy requires determination and the will to
see things through and to get things done, one who is planning a career in physical therapy will first
need a good education and degree. Also, one needs selflessness, respect, and accountability. Finally, a
physical therapist needs good leadership qualities to push patients in prevention and rehabilitation.
First of all, the education to become a physical therapist is expensive and prolonged, but in the end it
proves to be worth every bit. Physical therapy schooling is a very expensive program to go through.

writing a tale of misfortune and adventure throughout travel. I can relate to her story based on the road
trips taken over the years with my family. While not one trip stands out in my mind, collectively
fragments of adventures across the states come to me. Growing up we would travel at least once a year
if not more, solely relying on the pavement as transportation we would take SUV s to the islands south
or take a bus to New York. With my three sisters, various animals, as well occasional grandparents
accompanying these journeys, morale tended to grow hectic. My parents although very kind, were
incredibly strict through the entirety of my adolescence, when my sisters and I would argue they
would shut it down almost immediately. Now when arguments are shut down without resolve they
typically fester, and so emotions would explode between the children. The back and forth bickering in
a good man is hard to find reminds me of petty arguments on late nights or days with little sleep and
even more driving. The short story A P written by John Updike reminds me of my first year of public
schooling. After completing homeschool my mother chose to place me into a charter school in
manatee county for my seventh grade year, school was very foreign to me along with the company it
brought. Throughout my years of homeschool we spent our time traveling from state to state, or we
were settled down. My first public school encounter was a dreadful yet fun year depending on the day,
I was often the subject of class ridicule among others. I excelled in very simple academics in
comparison to what my mother and grandmother taught me, with good grades came the offer of being
an exclusive member of the safety patrol. As the year went on the safety patrol were given referral
slips to pass out accordingly, mine was given often to a bully of a very beautiful face, reminding me of
Queenie. The short story Good People written by David Foster Wallace reminds me of a childhood
friend, Jessie Sherman. While we lived in arcadia, a cozy town due east of palmetto, we had very few
neighbors and the ones we did have were

Haggai And Zechariah Research Paper
Haggai and Zechariah are complementary prophets of the postexilic period (HW 678). Haggai urged
the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the temple of God while Zechariah called for spiritual renewal
among God s people. During the time of Haggai a decree was issued allowing conquered peoples who
were deported by the Babylonians to return to their homelands. During this time the first group of
emigrants returned to Jerusalem. Scripture states in Haggai 1:7 8, Thus says the Lord of hosts:
Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take
pleasure in it and be glorified , says the Lord (New King James Version). Haggai s messages from the
Lord implored the people to once again build the temple. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His task was to prepare the people for proper worship and temple service once the building project
was completed (HW 688). God instructed Zechariah in the words to motivate the people. Scripture
states in Zechariah 4:6, This is the word of the Lord:.... Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,
says the Lord of hosts . The Lord is showing the people that it is only through Him that the temple will
be finished and ready for worship. At this time the people were guilty of the same covenant violations
as the generation that was sent into exile. The Lord sent Zechariah to offer the people a solution to
their problems of sin and rebellion by genuinely repenting and returning to God. God knew that only
spiritual renewal could foster true worship and meaningful service in the temple once it was finished
(HW 691). Zechariah s encouragement took many forms including a series of visions and repeated
reference to the words of former prophets. Zechariah s visions reminded the people that God cared for
them and all that they were struggling with. Zechariah s messages from the Lord were full of hope
confirming that the Lord was continuing His covenant with them and was not going to forsake them.
The prophet Zechariah was the cheerleader for the completion of the temple that Haggai had the
people start to rebuild. Haggai got the physical building of the temple started while Zechariah was the
encourager for the people to finish the temple and to get their spiritual lives in

Settlement Privilege In Canada
Settlement privilege is a legal tool designed to safeguard information exchanged between a plaintiff
and a defendant or defendants during settlement negotiations. This tool permits any involved parties to
freely discuss trial matters without the worry of their discussions later being held against them.
Settlement privilege laws were set by the courts to assist in their efforts to promote settlements out of
court, which in turn, decreases legal costs, along with public resources. The following guidelines
determine settlement privilege, as is found in Canada s Law of Evidence: A continuing dispute must
be currently under contemplation or in progress. There must be a clear understanding that all matters
discussed during settlement negotiations

The Salary Inequities For The Female Employees Essay
Mike Honda once said, Equal pay isn t just a women s issues; when women get equal pay, their family
income rise and the whole family benefits (Honda, n.d.). Although more businesses are supportive of
closing the pay gap, it is still a problem in most established companies. There are several reasons for
the pay gap, yet in many cases it is thought that the main reason is because women are less likely to
negotiate their salary. Even if this is the case, companies need to be aware of their employee s salaries
to stay within their legal obligation. This is what Joe Black, the president of Acme Manufacturing, has
discovered within his organization.
Critical Factors
The central dilemma for this case with Acme Manufacturing is the salary inequities for the female
employees. There are concerns that these inequities were the result of gender discrimination based on
the information provided by the current HR director and her belief of how the previous president felt
about female employees at the company. Although this may be hearsay, the fact that there are
inequities and rumors, it is still grounds for concern and further investigation by HR. Joe Black, the
current President of the company, is looking for the best solution to resolve these concerns. Based on
the job evaluation study performed by a compensation consultant, there is a concern that three female
supervisors and the female HR director are underpaid relative to comparable male salaried employees.
Now that this

The Impact Of E-Commerce
2. Introduction
2.1. Background
The widespread application of internet and prevalence of globalization give rise to various influential
trends in business context, one of which is e Commerce. According to (Browne et al., 2004), e
Commerce refers to a commercial platform that allow transactions to happen via electronic devices
and digital environment that requires no face to face or human interaction as opposed to traditional
mode of purchase. E Commerce is revolutionizing the landscape of modern business environment by
offering a convenient, rapid, borderless and timely mechanism for commercial transactions. Moreover,
e Commerce provides an alternative to traditional value chain in which manufactured products need to
move through multiple layer of distribution to reach the end users. In other words, via electronic
platforms, suppliers can now access their end customers directly via web based ordering system

With customers health consciousness improves over the last decades, sporting goods such as footwear,
apparel and equipment for exercising and sports events is becoming more popular (Reportlinker,
2015). In fact, customer s satisfaction with a sporting goods product may not relies solely on the
product quality and functionality, but on the experience with the purchase related services
(Openbravo, 2016). e Commerce retailing presents its most impact in the field of e fulfilment, a term
referring to the integration of physical outbound logistics management and web based interaction with
customers during the order placement, package tracking and return processing (Lummus Vokurka,

Last Of The Mohicans Plot
Throughout the movie The Last of the Mohicans there were many exciting plot points, as well as a
great soundtrack. The main character, Hawkeye, was a colonial settler adopted by Chingachgook, a
Mohican, after the death of his family. Major Duncan Heyward escorts Colonel Munro s daughters,
Cora and Alice, to Fort William Henry where he is there with the British Army. On the way to Fort
William Henry, Magua, supposedly a Mohican indian allied with the British, attacks the British
Regiment with a war party of Huron Indians. It is here that Hawkeye comes in and he and his
Mohican family, Uncas and Chingachgook, save the Major and the Munro girls. They arrive at the fort
as it is under siege from the French. They meet up with their father,

Sublime In Frankenstein Essay
Most Gothic novels aim to show the sinister side of human nature. They depict the dark terrors which
lie beneath the reader s mentality. The term Gothic suggests a genre which deals with frightening and
mysterious settings by giving connotations of ghostly castles and supernatural events. The Sublime
experience as stated by the critic Longinus is, …a matter of treatment. The particular form of the
sublime experience that requires prepossessing objects is not only the form; it is simply the form in
which enthusiasm preponderates over irony [1] . The Castle of Otranto is the first Gothic novel written
by Horace Walpole in which the idea of the Sublime is presented through its physical, transcending
and overpowering imagery. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edmund Burke a theorist stated in his works that, …Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas
of pain and danger; that is to say, whatever is in any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible
objects or operates in a manner analogous to terror, is a source of the sublime [2] . The critic attempts
to assemble an authoritative definition of the sublime here. Furthermore Gothic castles were built as
symbols of systematic power; they were definite assertions of ambition that rested on the owner s
control of others. A sense of empowerment is suggested through this idea therefore indicating to the
Sublime having a dominant role in the Gothic genre. Intended to convey a disputing power, Walpole
implies images of force, hierarchy, stability and command in the novel. The Castle Of Otranto,
attempts to capture a sense of realism through its illustration of settings and characters. Burke
commented that: whatever is fitted to produce such a tension must be productive of a passion similar
to terror; and consequently must be a source of the sublime, though it should have no idea of danger
connected with it [3] . Consequently the Sublime is shown to be produced by a passion which is
closely related to terror, this is evident through the tension created by the settings and characters; a
sense of terror is illustrated. The novel was an original Gothic behind the overthrow of the Roman
Empire, therefore Gothic at the time applied to

`` The Epic Of America `` By James Truslow Adams
Introduction
Throughout the history of the United States of America, there has been an evident issue with the

America. Ethnic organized crime is a phenomenon that has been largely ignored by social scientists
and historians . American dream is a widely used term that became a powerful metaphor, of the
American values. Americans believe, that these values can be reached through hard work and
individual effort. Amongst these values is one, which James Truslow Adams in the Epic of America ,

women unhampered by the barriers which had slowly been erected for the benefit of classes, rather
than for the simple human being of any and every class . Could people like gangsters be considered as
the representation of the American Dream? Murders and deaths linked with gangsters like Al Capone,

Blood Platelets
Platelets are the cells that circulate within our blood and bind together when they recognized damaged
blood vessels. They are the smallest of our blood cells, and can only be seen under a microscope.
Platelets are made in your bone marrow with your white and red blood cells. They are tiny blood cells
that help your body form clots to stop bleeding. If one of your blood vessels gets damage, it sends out
signals that are picked up by platelets. Platelets rush to the damage blood vessel to stop the bleeding,
by growing sticky long tentacles that help them adhere. As well as send out chemical signals to attract
more platelets to pile onto the clot in a process called aggregation. It is amazing how platelets can help
our damage blood vessels and stop bleeding, so what other ways can our platelets do for us? This is a
question one researcher and his colleagues asked and put to the test. ... Show more content on

In 1910 Europe organized the Clef Club, a society for African Americans in the music industry. In
1912 the club made history when it played a concert at Carnegie Hall for the benefit of the Colored
Music Settlement School. The Clef Club Orchestra, while not a jazz band, was the first band to play

in the United States it was 12 years before the Paul Whiteman and George Gershwin concert at

  • 4. Experimental Study On Strength And Workability Of Cement... EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON STRENGTH AND WORKABILITY OF CEMENT MATERIALS USING MAGNESIUM SILICATE HYDRATE BINDER SYSTEM H. M. Tran, A. Scott 1,2University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand There has been increasing studies on magnesium silicate hydrate binder system as an eco cement and its potential use for nuclear waste immobilization. The cementing properties and workability of cement paste and mortar using magnesium silicate hydrate binder were examined by compressive strength, flow test and scanning electron microscopy. The binder composition was proposed based on stoichiometric ratio. The results showed that magnesium silicate hydrate binder exhibits very high water demand due to containing high microfine content of amorphous silica (silica fume). However, it is possible to produce workable mixes at normal water to binder ratio (w/cm=0.40 and below) by use of polycarboxylate based superplasticizer. Crushed quartz with smooth texture and particle size coarser than magnesium and silica fume was used as fillers to form ternary system. Use of crushed quartz fillers contributes to water reduction and improves packing density, hence increases strength of magnesium silicate hydrate binder system. Mortar samples of the binder containing 40% magnesium oxide, 40% silica fume (Mg/Si molar ratio = 1.50) and 20% crushed quartz fillers resulted in encouraging compressive strength of up to 70 MPa. It is always a debatable topic. Most of Indians are very much interested in politics. We look at formation of many parties; we find that their establishment are mainly due to ideological differences that result in split in parent party and at the end leads to formation of a new political party with a new agenda. In multi party system like India, the parties can be classified into three types i.e.; National parties, Regional parties and State parties. The status of the party is granted by Election Commission of India and after that it is reviewed occasionally. All the parties whether national, Regional or State party, they are registered with Election Commission. A unique election symbol is given by the Election Commission to every registered party Currently there are 7 National parties and 56 State parties. The total number of registered unrecognised parties in India is 1786. There are mainly nine regional parties out of 657 Regional parties. There are 12 other upcoming parties. The Election Commission mandates certain rules regarding starting a new political party in India like; 1. Every new party to have at least 100 members.[There are no set rules on how or who to recruit, it s up to the party] 2. Each member is required to hold an Indian voter ID card. 3. Work is a activity where we can apply our ideas in an particular situation. We can t define work as a single type or term because work is comes with its number of parts and types like SOCIAL, PROJECT WORK and much more types. In this paper I am going to flash a light on Group work and Individual work and which is better from both of them. 1. Group Work Group work is also known as team work when two or more than two persons are working on a same project is known as group work. In group work we can share our ideas with our co partners and give that idea a new shape. Group work is a type of voluntary association that increases the total output of the activity rather than it is done by individually. More ideas In a group every person had its own ideas, prospects and experiences. In a group every person is belong from an different backgrounds and have a different experiences so that s why every person have an different ideas on his basis that s why we can get lot ideas in our group work. • 7. Crowd Psychology The question that I intend to study is: How do shy people react in a crowd? (do they become aggressive/ assertive as per mob psychology, or shrink as per their personality)? There are various theories regarding the mode of behavior in a crowd. Some, such as Freud, posit that people behavior changes in a crowd and they become more restless and less individualistic. Mob theory, in fact, is born form this which asserts that crowds are the source of volatile conduct where diverse people gang together for a particular cause. Minds merge and each person s enthusiasm becomes increased as a result. On the other hand, you have the Convergence theory that posits that the cause is born beforehand and that people join the crowd in order to put their cause into practice. The crowd, in other words, enables them to accomplish their objective and it makes them more enthusiastic and entrenched in their mission. Social psychologists leBon (1895) and Zimbardo (1969) see the crowd as an instigator of individuation. Stimuli such as mergence into a larger whole, the rush of the environment, the pressure of the crowd, the sensory overload and so forth blur mental input and causes a deindivdualistic individual to appear. One thing that is remarkable about all of these theories is that they tend to generalize assuming categorical behavior to all individuals and providing the aspect of crowd with anthropomorphic qualities. On the other hand, people believe in a fixed mindset that primary qualities like abilities and intelligence are fixed and cannot be developed. Teachers and parents can make children develop growth mindset by praising their strategies and persistence, by giving them stories that emphasize on effort and the Importance of learning, and teaching the students that a brain is a learning tool or machine (Gupta, et al., 2012). The society is currently worshipping talent and individuals assume that having the ability or superior intelligence with confidence is one way of succeeding. Overemphasis on talent or intelligence leaves students prone to failure, afraid of challenges and they are not ready to accept their shortcomings (Taylor, et al., 2014). Praising innate abilities of children, reinforce fixed mindset, which can prevent people in workforces or young athletics and even the married people to live up to their potential. By teaching students to have the growth mindset encourages them to use their personal effort and come up with effective strategies and not talent or intelligence which will help them to achieve highly in life and even in school. The phenomenon of firms transferring their business operations back to its country of origin can be referred as reshoring, insourcing, onshoring, backshoring, homeshoring, and rightshoring (Espana 2013). Even though some explanation have been mentioned, this strategic changes in manufacturing location mainly because of increase in wages, fluctuation in currency values, labour productivity and reduction of energy costs from 2004 to 2014. According to the International Labour Organization, wages in low cost countries have soared. For instance, real wages in Asia rose by 7.1% to 7.8% a year between 2000 and 2008 while pays in advanced economies just increased 0.5% to 0.9%, even in American manufacturing, the real wages have declined by 2.2% since 20005. The latter is the focus of this essay, however he cannot be discussed without some understanding of the historical and political background to the tensions which are now evident between some aspects of Islamic and Western thought. Yet the designation fundamentalist also deserves brief consideration. For the purpose of this essay the term refers to Muslims who believe it is necessary to return to the fundamentals of Islamic belief in order to express true Islam, this necessitates a narrow interpretation of Qur anic texts and tradition. The term is problematic in that it is drawn into the conflicting territory of description and taxonomy, especially when, as is often the case, fundamentalism blurs the division between religion and politics. Is fundamentalism religion in the service of political ideology or ideology veiled as religion? (Moussalli (ed) 1998: 1, 27 28). A detailed discussion of these issues is not possible here, however discussing the political and religious views of Sayyid Qutb may be of assistance in discerning the political and religious dimensions of fundamentalism. • 13. Essay on Ordinary Men There are no extraordinary men... just extraordinary circumstances that ordinary men are faced to deal with (William Halsey). The same can be said about volatile men. This is the quote Christopher R. Browning thought of when he named this book. The men of the 101st battalion were rarely faced with decisions. Even if it had been proposed by Trapp the morning of Jozefow that any of the older men who did not feel up to the task that lay before them could step out (Browning, chapter 7, pg. 57), he didn t actually allow them any time to truly think about it. Even in the very same chapter, we see him change when he turns away from the Jews who tried to kiss his hands for saving them. But it s in chapter 11 we truly see how the climate of war has made him adapt. When faced with a killing quota when stationed in Talcyn, Trapp decides to kill the Jewish population instead of the Poles. Seemingly, this is because they re more expendable. But to me, it seems as if he s gotten used to killing Jews. Poles can still be looked at as people for him. He hasn t distanced himself from them like he has been forced to with Jews. The very obvious rules of the German side of this war is that Jews aren t necessary. So when faced with the decision to kill Poles or Jews, Trapp created his own rule that Jews are more expendable then Poles. The man who once weeped for the Jews no longer had any inhibitions about shooting more then enough Jews to meet his quota (Browning, chapter 11, pg. 102). Major Trapp, to me, was the epitome of the ordinary men who didn t enjoy senseless murder evolving into a man who became accustomed to senseless murder. But idea of the general populace also shifted to aclimatize itself to the rules of this war. In the beginning, the Jozefow matter was simply not discussed (Browning, chapter 7, pg 69.) A second way of finding out an artifact s date can be Potassium argon dating which can be used to date extremely old artifacts up to 100,000 years old. The Salary Inequities For The Female Employees Essay Mike Honda once said, Equal pay isn t just a women s issues; when women get equal pay, their family income rise and the whole family benefits (Honda, n.d.). Although more businesses are supportive of closing the pay gap, it is still a problem in most established companies. There are several reasons for the pay gap, yet in many cases it is thought that the main reason is because women are less likely to negotiate their salary. This is what Joe Black, the president of Acme Manufacturing, has discovered within his organization. Critical Factors The central dilemma for this case with Acme Manufacturing is the salary inequities for the female employees. There are concerns that these inequities were the result of gender discrimination based on the information provided by the current HR director and her belief of how the previous president felt about female employees at the company. Although this may be hearsay, the fact that there are inequities and rumors, it is still grounds for concern and further investigation by HR. Joe Black, the current President of the company, is looking for the best solution to resolve these concerns. Edmund Burke a theorist stated in his works that, …Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas of pain and danger; that is to say, whatever is in any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible objects or operates in a manner analogous to terror, is a source of the sublime [2] . The critic attempts to assemble an authoritative definition of the sublime here. A sense of empowerment is suggested through this idea therefore indicating to the Sublime having a dominant role in the Gothic genre. Intended to convey a disputing power, Walpole implies images of force, hierarchy, stability and command in the novel. The Castle Of Otranto, attempts to capture a sense of realism through its illustration of settings and characters. Burke commented that: whatever is fitted to produce such a tension must be productive of a passion similar to terror; and consequently must be a source of the sublime, though it should have no idea of danger connected with it [3] . Consequently the Sublime is shown to be produced by a passion which is closely related to terror, this is evident through the tension created by the settings and characters; a sense of terror is illustrated.
